I have recently been told about the British superstition of magpies and how of saluting magpies will ward off bad luck. The saluting is to show respect to the bird often connected with bad omens so that nothing bad will happen to you 🍂

Tease Tidbit Tuesday

The chapter I’m on in Rival Firefighters 🚒 is kicking my ass. Words aren’t coming and if they are they’re coming sloooooow. Like maybe 300 words a day slow. It’s annoying and frustrating because I really want to get a good chunk of this fic written. Feel like I haven’t written a lot for it in ages! Like if I can finish off this chapter I’ll be happy 🙂

So here’s today’s 300ish words (I did manage to write a little bit more after this so yay!)

On his last day at the 118, Bobby calls Eddie into his office at the end of shift. Buck shoots him a quizzical look, Eddie shrugging and shaking his head. He has no idea why Bobby wants to see him. Maybe thank him for his time here? But that seems like something he could’ve done in front of everyone, why ask to speak to him privately?

“Ohhhh someone’s in trouble” Chim sing songs looking far too pleased with himself.

Hen snickers beside him. “Better get to the principal’s office, you don’t want to be late.”

Eddie rolls his eyes at them as he leaves the locker room, pausing in the doorway to address Buck, who is still giving him a confused puppy look.

“I’ll meet you back at mine? You’ve still got your key, yeah?”

Buck blinks away the confusion, eyes brightening at the reminder that he’ll still be seeing Eddie even though they aren’t working together anymore. “Y-yeah, still got my key.”

Eddie had gotten a key made and had given it to Buck two days ago after discovering Buck was worried they wouldn’t be in each other’s lives anymore once Eddie finished up his time at the 118. Buck had taken the key and looked at it like it was the greatest treasure in the world, closing his fingers around it tightly before pulling Eddie into a hug that Eddie swears he can still feel the warmth of, deep in the marrow of his bones.

“Alright, I’ll see you soon.”

Eddie makes his way to Bobby’s office, anxiety beginning to bubble in his stomach causing his chest to feel too tight. He rubs at his sternum as he walks, trying to dislodge the tightness, but he knows it’s pointless. He gets to the door and takes a deep breath to get his shit under control before knocking.

“Come in!”

i love the way disco elysium deconstructs both the detective genre and RPG games. i wanna see the same done to other formats. like:

prequel of harry's child/teenhood in the format of a fighting game. brawling through friends and foes and his own psyche alike. maybe you build relationships with characters through teaming up with them, or social interludes, like fire emblem or persona. you get to learn about the people in harry's life, and also get a special combo move if you max out their social meter :p but also sometimes in the midst of building a relationship with a person, they simply just die in the course of their lives. and their little unfilled meter sits on your relationships page, forever.

prequel of kim's early years in the RCM in the format of 🤔 a puzzle platformer? or a strategy game like suzerainty civilization? where you are managing constantly diminishing "resources" like monthly budget, respect from your colleagues, kim's will to keep going, physical energy. energy+will -> actions at work -> respect+$. kim has a massive well of will, which allows and incentivizes working overtime to increase $ and respect, which costs energy. mechanically, you are incentivized to burn as much energy as possible, to always be at dregs.

Thanks for talking about the problematic aspects of IFTV in your last stream. I was feeling kinda iffy about you championing it but your reasoning makes sense and it made me feel a lot better about engaging with the franchise.

I appreciate that! I will say, going forward I will really not be doing this as much, though. It’s really exhausting trying to convince people I’m consuming media in good faith over and over again just bc folks knee jerk reaction is to assume the worst about minority creators online.

My politics are important to me and I like criticizing stuff that i’m into! It helps me feel more deeply connected to the media i consume by analyzing what about it I agree/disagree with. but with that being said, I can’t sit around and list the sins of my favorite media for everyone who raises an issue with it because it’s exhausting! ILTV is immensely important to me, and I have a feeling it will stay that way basically forever!!

i know that as an lgbt content creator i’m gonna be held to a different standard, but like. My opinion on the problematic aspects of ANY work i enjoy is publicly accessible knowledge at this point. I’ve talked about the problematic aspects of things ON-DEMAND for people so many times that like. I feel like I would rather just let this be my public stance going forward:

I don’t agree with everything in every piece of media I care about. There is no piece of media on earth that i 1000% support the politics of. If you get mad at me because something I like doesn’t align with your views, It’s okay to unfollow/block me/whatever you wanna do. Seriously, i wont hold it against you.

This will probs be my final comment on the matter, thanks for understanding, everyone

I'm so tired of people complaining about MM's portrayal of Thetis, like I generally don't like to post negativity because no. And I'm not the type to complain about "media literacy" because half of the people who complain about it don't even know what media literacy and critical thinking is, and the other half are just self important arseholes who believe that their only redeeming quality is that someone in high school told them that they were smart

But to anyone who ever said that MM was demonizing Thetis. I'm taking away all the complex women characters until you learn how to be nice

MM wrote about how a woman that was forced to have a child she probably didn't even want, then come to love him, only to learn that she was going to lose him very soon anyway

She was panicking, so she tried to be controlling in hopes that she could achieve this one thing that maybe could prevent her child from dying

And she was so focused on protecting him, that she didn't realized that she was hurting him

In the end, she has to come to terms that in her way to protect this image she had of him in her head, she ended up hurting her real son and didn't even knew him

Thats why she asks Patroclus to tell her about Achilles in the end, to understand who was he beyond what she wanted him to be and comes to terms with the fact that she could've spend all that time being happy with him

But then I see people going "ThEtIs ShOUlD bE a GoOd mOm"

Like of course, reduce this complex character that this woman is, an imperfect person and an even more imperfect mother to just a stereotypical good mom without other personality trait other than being a good mom; thats sooo feminist 🙄 (it's sarcasm)

(And why should she ever be kind to Patroclus when shes A GODDESS!?!?!? Patroclus is like an insect to her!!!!)

I'm not saying that MM is beyond criticism, like why are Menoetius and Pyrrhus soooo one dimensional. But when you're criticizing some part of the book that's not even true, it makes me think that some of you went "I personally don't like it therefore it's bad iabdkabhsishsysk"

this is sad but. thinking abt dean dying on a hunt right before sam is supposed to leave for stanford and it just pulls him right back in; he takes the place by john’s side and sam wants dean as his parent back and john wants dean as his wife back but neither of them can be that for each other and it descends into the most toxic samjohn of all time
