“The Spirit Bares Its Teeth” is a book packed with ghosts, and yet it was the Speakers, men, who brought every moment of horror. I haven’t felt dread quite like this before while reading.
Andrew Joseph White has the ability to make me close a page mid-sentence and refuse to keep reading because my brain didn’t want to process what was happening while it processed the implications immediately.
This portrayal of spirits was beautiful
The fear was more relatable than I want to admit right now
and honestly this book fucked me up (positive but like heed the warning)
I just wish we’d been able to see Silas on the cover instead of the rabbit
i just wish the consequences had been so much louder
and i want to embroider “They must have convinced themselves they would never rot in the same dirt we do.” over a pair of frozen statues really badly
Anyway Andrew Joseph White is my absolute favorite author. I want to go out immediately and buy the two novels he’s written since I borrowed both from the library.
and that’s like the highest honor i could bestow

Dr Who: The Brigadier is a silly military man. He's stubborn, and unflappable, and extremely loyal to the Doctor and his men (soldiers). This man can deal with anything, like a champ. Water off his back, yknow?
Lethbridge-Stewart books: This dude is getting traumatised every single day and he doesn't get a moment's break. Anything that could happen to him, will. Will he cope with the trauma? not really. He's a resilient dude, but he'll just pretend most of it didn't happen, for his own sanity

#so i went to the hairdresser's in september to get a trim after over a year of having NOTHING done to my hair#it was in suuuuuuuuch a poor condition but i loved how long it had gotten so i suffered through the summer#i just wasn't ready to say goodbye to my mermaid hair 🥺#(i should've got it done in the spring but didn't because. well. life i guess lol i wasn't feeling very well maybe)#and so when i finally went to get it done i asked the hairdresser to cut only what was necessary#fair enough i went home only to notice absolutely NOTHING had happened 🙃#i thought i could live with it until maybe later in the winter but i was getting so frustrated with how lifeless and tangled my hair was 😭#so i booked a new appointment at a different hairdresser (a new one has just opened near me)#and aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh my hair looks and feels SO much more healthier now!! 😭 nearly teared up at the hairdresser's feeling my new hair 😂#but at the same time i'm a bit 🥲 because it's quite a bit shorter now 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲#it's not short per se but aaaahhhh I'm having a minor identity crisis lol (no i'm not i'm just being dramatic 💅)#but it's definitely better this way. i love my hair and i'm never ever letting it get in such a terrible condition ever again 🤧#also i'm not going back to that other place again because it wasn't the first time the same person had done barely anything to my hair 🤨#i mean. i guess they just did what i had asked but...#with all the other hairdressers there's never been any problem when i told them to ''only take what's needed''#i guess she was just too cautious to take TOO much of the length of my hair but gurl what's the point if you only take like 1 cm 😐#with ''what's needed'' i obviously mean ''enough so i won't have to come back here next month'' :\#anyway! i'm happy and keep sniffing my hair (and giving myself a headache in the process) because the products they used smell so nice 💖#pointless ramblings hi yess i'm bored by theflyingfeeling

I want to watch more qsmp content (since i've really only been following along with liveblogs; i only really watched wilbur's vods almost up to when the eggs were first supposed to disappear) but there's so much to watch and it doesn't all hold my attention.

^^ this is the official qsmp lore recap channel!! honestly the best source I think you could get they condense so much of it so well. as for more recent stuff they haven't gotten to yet I'd recommend going on twitter (yeah i know I'm sorry 😔) and looking through your language of choices update accounts!! they're all run by official admins and have translated updates on every streamer per day. its a lot of lore but also liveblogging is how most people consume other lore, since there are people constantly streaming on the server. i look through the qsmp tag when i wake up in the morning and get home from school like a newspaper LMAO
typically I'd just suggest the twitter accounts, the recap channel, picking at least 2 or 3 different streamers to watch casually and looking through liveblogs. im a huge charlie guy obviously but I've literally never seen a cellbit stream before despite him being one of my favorite characters, I only know him through other streams and liveblogging. my spanish streamers don't stream on there anymore (cmon mariana and rubius D:) and so i mainly get Spanish updates from Spanish speakers on here!! point is you're doing great already LMAO just watch some of the recaps and look through the update accounts and you'll be fine.
(plus every stream they have to relay old information from one person to another so eventually you will get a lore info dump if you want to or not)

If it feels like I halfway vanished off the face of the earth for a couple days there it’s because I had to read this Loustat fic in its entirety as soon as I finished QotD.
I have no desire to read any of the other VC books when this fic exists as the perfect resolution to the only remaining loose end of that first “trilogy”: Lestat and Louis talking through their difficult history and figuring out how to make their relationship work long-term.
Because that’s what this fic is. It’s 138k words of talking and negotiation and some vicious but ultimately necessary arguments, in which Lestat opens up about his trauma and abandonment issues, Louis works on his self-loathing and religious guilt, and both of them learn to show vulnerability and to treat each other a little more kindly.
It’s rough at times--the characterization of both of them is spot on, which means they both have some supremely bitchy moments and that Lestat in particular tends to react to stress by lashing out with cruelty. But in the aftermath of Akasha’s death, they have nothing but time to iron out the rough spots.
There’s apologies. There’s philosophical debates. There’s theater dates. There’s murder. There’s a dog. There’s dunking on Reagan-era politics. There’s a flower garden. There’s mourning for Claudia.
Do mind the tags, as there are heaping spoonfuls of difficult topics like internalized homophobia, depression, suicidal ideation, and more, many of which are confronted in-depth.
BUT, the most important tag of all on this fic is most definitely Angst with a Happy Ending, because boy do they have to work to get there, but they do get there

no bc like. trk is SO hard to read. like. Thanksgiving. That SceneTM. boy. i read aftg in a single week when i was fifteen and i regret doing it at that age so much bc MAN that was a hard couple scenes to read
right?????? and there's nothing inherently wrong with writing scenes like that i just always think nora misses the mark with how it's handled. like even AFTER that reveal in trk about What Happened To Andrew And Why He Acts The Way He Does, he still gets treated as some soulless maniac? and that's so damaging to any victims reading that also - god forbid - dared to respond to that trauma in a 'bad' way

#one of my mom’s close work friends Dean died today#and I won’t get into the details of how obviously but he wasn’t very old#and definitely wasn’t ready to be dead#like he just posted a bunch of memes on Facebook 3 days ago lmfao#and a photo of his dog the day before that#and he lived a bunch of states away from us so I only met him once#but he was a really good guy and he got a copy of my first book#and of course my mom is going through his Facebook now and he made a post about reading my book and it’s just like. I don’t know#he was a really good person. and he had this rescue dog that he LOVED#literally all his posts were abt her#her name was wonder pooch#and he got her from the shelter a few years ago and just Doted on her and loved her and spoiled her rotten#and he never got married and never got kids so now that he’s died#so now that he’s dead Wonder Pooch just got returned to the shelter#and obviously we don’t live in a state anywhere close so we can’t go get her#I really hope that someone else does.#I’m just so fucking torn up about the whole thing#like I literally only met him once but my mom has known him for 20+ years#and the other day he’s posting about how much he loves his dog and now his dog is in the same rescue he got her from#probably wondering where her person went#and it’s just like wow that’s what life is#yeah I’m really fucking devastated.#tw death#death#I really hope one of his friends goes and gets her.

Had a fantastic fic-writing experience when my brother visited
#I love drawing MSPaint-quality stuff with a laptop touch screen/trackpad in art programs that I spent money on#it's silly fun n.n#The Magnus Archives#TMA spoilers#TMA fanfic#TMA#he knows vague TMA stuff since I mainly talk to him about it but he hasn't heard more than scant minutes here n there#he said he would've listened to it at his library preservation job if they had allowed headphones#but he also didn't last long at that job. thinking about the hornblower/bush pleading paragraph again and being reminded of a scene earlier in that same book where hornblower is trying to tell bush about how he can navigate and demonstrating the math for him and all bush can do is nod dumbly and admire hornblower's delicate and nimble hands

#pov u literally cannot open ur arms and it literally burns so hard when u do#you know yesterday . when i said they gave us eighteen (18) books .#yeah i recounted it was nineteen (19) .#they gave us NINETEEN BOOKS and NO BAG TO PUT THEM IN#do you know how many times after the minibus i stumbled and dropped the bag#AND MY OWN BACKPACK RIPPED AT THE HANDLESS#i was hurting myself trying to carry both so bad trying to figure out what way to hold them would not hurt like hell#and the bag was ripping while i was going too so i had to be quick which meant MORE messing up and hurting myself#yeah i came home crying in pure pain and anger#oh !!!! anyway more about today#we met some new teachers today !! ^^#the first new teacher we met was the english teacher !! she looks sooooo gender she has like a goth style#she had black / dark grey lipstick and many piercings and a few tattoos#and she was dressed so cool too i love her a lot#oh turns out a few other people in my class are pretty fluent !! especially the girl sitting next to me shes great with the accent as well#one of my closest friends so far ( hacer ) went through the entirety of kindergarden with english classes ?? thats soo cool#apparently sana ( the one next to me ) learned it the same way i did !! consuming english media ^^#oh and zeynep ( well . one of them . there are three zeyneps in the class ) knows it pretty well too#who else was fluent ?? i cant remember rn#but yeah !! oh and we met the pe teacher ! he seems extremely stern but i think his jokes are very funny . lets hope he'll be fine#and we met the . whats the lesson called ? well the direct translation is ''basic religion knowledge'' . idk#but yeah !!! she seems very nice and sweet and fun ^^ i like her already#so yeah thats today !!#schools going pretty okay honestly ‚ im starting to get closer with people outside my immediate friend circle#♚ — rambling !

#im pretty convinced that if Oberyn weren't so integral to the plot of season 4#no one from Dorne would ever have been in the show#going back through season 5 onward with the Dorne plot#its obvious that the only reason it exists is beacuse Oberyn was such a major character that they knew they had to do something#with the people he left behind#but beacuse they had no interest they just wrote it however they wanted with zero interest in the actual characters#im 100% willing to bet if they could have gotten away with writing Oberyn Martell out of season 4 they would have#beacuse they clearly have zero interest in his family or people or country#and how badly it was handled after shows they dont care about Oberyns actions in the first place#im not saying it was racist fueled#but it sure feels pretty sus that the only kingdom in Westeros with prominently darker skin#are ultimately portrayed as evil snakey bad people who only care for blood sex and violence#when no others series of characters were as mishandled as Ellaria the sand snakes and the remaining Martells#like i know the meme of dragon lady bad#but like#shes one white woman who went out of character at the very last second of the show#they spent seasons 5 through 8 purposely portraying Ellaria and the Sand Snakes as despicable blood thristy women#and made Doran a complete idiot who literally does the exact opposite of everything he did in the books#like#that is way worse then whatever people complained about dragon lady bad#im so convinced they probably wished they could have written Oberyn out so they could avoid all this Dorne storylines#but George RR Martin was still consulting and assisting with writinf for the show in season 4 so they couldnt get away with it#guys its 4am#i havent written more then a few paragraphs all day but ive also spent all day engrossed in GoT meta

Love, Rosie actually made me go crazy 🤪
#sitting through an 1hr 42 minutes of that was so hard#like first of all the main guy#Alex is going to Harvard to medicine#but if I remember correctly in the states you can only do medicine post grad#so unless he went to uni at age 15 and got his undergrad that whole plot makes no sense 🥴#but i could be wrong#anyway they had so many opportunities to get together but for some reason the plot pushed them so far a part constantly#that I didn’t want them to end up together#for example#the scene at the airport#him and Rosie are about to kiss#and it’s like clearly you guys have some attraction to one another#like the only hurdle that was there is that he had a girlfriend#but at the same time#let’s be so real he ended up breaking it off with the girlfriend (somehow?)#but they could’ve gotten together some point after#but the whole things was nonsensical and filled with mischances#like I just got bored of them realising their feelings at different times but then the plot continently keeps the apart until the end#apparently in the book it’s goes on until they are both 50#which is a joke#I was going to read the book but at the same time I don’t think I have the patience#gatherrambles#gatherwatches

Fushiguro Megumi always wonders if he made the right choice every time a white-haired sunglass wearing teenager walks into the house.
The tall older boy would grin as his hands form a salute. “You doing good Megumi and Tsumiki?”
He was as useful as the indoor plants. Fushiguro thought.
Gojo wasn’t much good at cooking and neither helped with cleaning, probably because of his rich background—but he did spoil them with lots of food and pocket money but he wouldn’t ever admit that.
As much as Fushiguro would love to throw insults at Gojo, he holds back his tongue each time; Tsumiki would send sharp glare and nag him if he did.
The first friend he brought to visit them was a girl; it was after Gojo went missing for a while and when Tsumiki inquired about it ,he simply said one of his dear friend went cray-cray as his finger twirls at the temple of his head.
The girl had short, brown hair with a distinct smell of cigarette; her name was Shoko Ieiri. She wore an impressed look when she entered the house as she looked over to Gojo. “Heh— The place is pretty neat,Gojo.”
Fushiguro looked to Gojo who placed some groceries on the counter top with a proud smile on his face. “I know right!” Gojo replies.
The young boy frowns. “It’s Tsumiki who keeps the place clean.” Shoko gives Gojo a stare before she cackles.
A week later when Tsumiki was still in school with club activities, another person makes an appearance ,you. He could faintly hear conversations between you and Gojo through the front door on how you’d actually wanted to visit them sooner but was bombarded with mission before it swings open.
The first thing Fushiguro noticed was how Gojo seemed to make you enter first— other times he barges in without a care for Shoko— his hands near your back with a slight space, without touching it. Why was Gojo being nice?
You blink at the dark haired boy. “Fushiguro Megumi, right?” Gojo peers from behind as you smile. “Did you eat?”
“Not yet. Waiting for Tsumiki to get home.” Fushiguro thinks you’re the first person who is kind of decent.
You nod take plastic bag from Gojo’s hands and lift up it, your smile widen. “I’ll make you some good stuff then.”
“I want to eat your cooking too,y/n.” Gojo chirps in only to be ignored. And to your credit, it was actually good. He didn’t remember the last time he had something this good home made.
After that, your visits seemed to increase which Fushiguro Megumi did not mind, in fact he was getting fond of your presence. You helped with food, cleaning which lessened the load on Tsumiki plus you also helped him with his studies.
“You seemed to get it now, Megumi.” Poor kid, blushes a bit hearing your compliment. “Practice this set of questions and I think you’ll do pretty well on your tests.” You smile.
Fushiguro nods as he does as you say, face still heated up. He looks up at you, who was reading a book. Your hair slightly in your face, lips slightly parted with eyes focused. You were extremely beautiful and as much as he wouldn’t admit it , he had a big fat kid crush on you.
“Megumi-chan.” Suddenly he is shoved to the side as a body makes way in between you and him. It was Gojo who sat in between. “Move over~ This seat is mine.”
The boy frowns and so did you, not liking Gojo’s action. “Don’t interrupt the kid, who is studying.” Kid? Ouch…You huff as your move over, despite you complaining you make space for him, focus back on your book.
Fushiguro watched as Gojo leans closer to you, almost resting his head on your neck as he looked over to your book; after a while eyes slowly moved over to you, his expression softens.
Gojo smiles as he tugs a piece of hair behind your hair, to which you don’t react as if it was normal. Thee older man then turns his head to Fushiguro—oops,he got caught staring.
The white haired boy then grins, a condescending one in fact as he mouths out the following words.
‘y/n-is-mine.” Fushiguro huffs. ‘back-off.”

so my younger cousin is flying in to visit from brazil on sunday, and will be staying here for like, the entirety of july. which, don't get me wrong, is super cool! i love the kid! but it felt like a super weird move, considering his parents are the SUPER strict and borderline helicopter parents. even the smallest prank/roughousing with him/his little sister would lead to a strict talking to from his parents, he couldn't ever do anything without their clear permission, that sort of stuff. so letting him fly at alone at 16 to a whole different country and stay there for a whole month seemed WILDLY out of character. additionally, it just felt like a super last-minute trip. it's not like we have any plans to do when he gets here, and the flight itself and stuff only got booked like, midway through june.
and i was talking to my mom about it, kind of trying to nudge some answers out of her, and after a while she went, "yeah, i think they're sending him over here to get away for his boyfriend. see if the distance breaks them off." which, first of all, surprised me because last i checked, they didn't KNOW he had a boyfriend. literally everyone in the family did EXCEPT for them because while that entire side of the family being semi-conservative, his parents (mostly his dad) are EXTREMELY old-fashioned. so clearly something already went wrong. and considering the only reason the rest of the family knew is because one person found out and it spread like wildfire, i have a sneaking suspicion he wasn't the one to tell them, either.
and second of all. they're sending him HERE. to try to make him forget his homosexuality. i couldn't do anything but just wordlessly gesture to the multiple pride flags scattered around my room, then to myself, because really? he has like two other cousins in the us and they're sending him to me? honey i am about to introduce this kid to queer scenes you have never even heard of. he'll be returning home with labels only shrimp can perceive

Post 9/11 Trivia
Most folks on this site were either children on September 11, 2001, or weren’t even born yet. But America went crazy for about a year afterwards. Here’s some highlights that I remember that might not be in your history books:
There was national discussion on whether or not Halloween should be canceled because…fuck if I know why. After planes crashed into buildings in NYC it follows that 6-year-olds in Iowa shouldn’t be allowed to dress up like Batman and ask their neighbors for candy, I guess. (Halloween wasn’t canceled, by the way.)
On a similar note, people asked if comedy - any sort of comedy - was appropriate anymore, ever.
People sold shitty parachutes to suckers “in case your building gets attacked and you have to jump out the window.” There were honest-to-God news reports warning people not to jump out of the window with shitty mail-order parachutes because they wouldn't work.
As a follow-up to the attacks, someone mailed anthrax to some prominent politicians and news anchors - you know, famous people - along with some badly-written notes about “you cannot stop us, death to America, Allah is good” and after that every time some random dumbass found a package in the mail they didn’t recognize they thought that the terrorists were targeting them, too.
Everyone was similarly convinced that their town was going to be the next target, even if they were a little town in the middle of nowhere. "Our town of Bumblefuck, South Dakota (population 690) has the largest styrofoam pig statue west of the Mississippi! Terrorists might fly planes into that too! It's a prime target!"
People started taping up their windows and trying to make their houses or apartments airtight out of fear of chemical and biological attacks. There were news reports warning people that turning your house into an airtight box was a bad idea because, y'know, you need air to breathe.
"[X] supports terrorism!" and “if we do [X], the terrorists win!” were used as arguments for everything. "Some rich Arab you never heard of donated to his organization that backs Hamas which backs al-Queda, and also owns stock in a holding company that has partial ownership of the Pringles company, so if you eat Pringles you're supporting terrorism!" "The terrorists want to tear down our freedoms and our way of life and rule us through fear! Eating what you want is one of our freedoms as Americans! If you're afraid to eat Pringles, the terrorists win!" (I promise you that this sort of argument is in no way hyperbole.)
(This argument is how Halloween was saved, by the way. “If we cancel Halloween, the terrorists win!”)
People worked 9/11 into everything, and I mean everything, whether it was appropriate or not. If you went to the grocery store the tortilla chips would remind you to support the troops on the packaging. Used car sales would be dedicated to our brave first responders. You couldn't wipe your ass without the toilet paper rolls reminding you to never forget the fallen of 9/11, and again, this is not hyperbole.
My uncle, who lived in Ohio and had never been to New York except to visit once in the 70′s, died of a stroke about 8 months after 9/11, and the priest brought up the attacks at the eulogy.
On a similar local note, on the day of 9/11, after the towers went down, gas stations in my home town immediately jacked up gas prices. The mayor had the cops go around and force them to take them back down. I doubt any of that was legal.
Before 9/11, Christianity in America - and religion in general - was on a downward swing, with reddit-tier atheism on the upswing. Religion was outdated superstition from a bygone age. The day after 9/11? Every single church was PACKED. (This wasn't a bad thing, but the power-hungry on the Evangelical Right saw this as a golden opportunity to grab power and influence.)
EDIT: By Popular Demand - Freedom Fries. I initially left these off because they came a couple years after the initial panic and most people thought they were kind of absurd (and I don't recall anyone really going along with it other than maybe some local diners here and there). France didn't want to get involved in our world policing so some folks were like "TRAITORS!" and wanted to call french fries "Freedom Fries" instead, so as to stick it to the French.
Besides dumb shit like that…it’s really hard to overstate how completely the national mood and character changed in the span of a day, or how much of the current culture war is a result of the aftermath. (9/11 was the impetus for the sharp rise in power of the Evangelical Right, who made themselves utterly odious and the following backlash helped the rise of the current Progressive Left, for instance.)
