Heyo! I wrote down some headcannons for the gang a while ago and decided I should post them! This post is long as balls so it’s all under the cut lol
June
* Currently studying to get her PHD in chemistry.
* Captain of her university’s softball team, but despite her Star-power they have not won a game.
* Knows how skateboard but can’t do tricks (Carrie’s trying to teach her though).
Angie
* Works as a counselor at a high school.
* She can switch out of her werewolf-vampire form at will because it’s effectively a magical girl transformation. This makes her immune to sunlight in both forms, but she can never eat garlic or chocolate again. She is very upset about this.
Molly
* She runs with a whole gang of sea monster environmental terrorists! They are all very cool.
* ^^ including her partner Corrie. Might include them as a playable character at some point but I gotta draw them normally first.
Mimi
*No one really knows anything about Mimi. They know she’s a real nurse, and a really good one at that, and that she’s divorced and that’s about it.
Edith
* June and Andrew’s grandma!
* Turns out being a magical girl runs in the family and just skipped a generation lol.
* Used to have rocket/missile powers in her prime but it takes a lot of out her so now she elects to beat the shit out of people with her walker.
Andrew
* Has 2 older sisters that are like 10-15 years older than him, so he and June were always super close cus they were the same age.
* Ratatouille is his favorite movie which is why he adopted Feta.
* His magical girl powers actually gave Feta and basil human level sentience so they help him in the kitchen! Well, Feta does. Basil mostly just tried to eat stuff. They are both very good at washing their hands :) they also can’t talk lol
* June is a very good baker thanks in part to her knowledge of chemistry. Her skills are actually on par with Andrew’s to the point that they have family baking competitions on a regular basis. Andrew is currently beating her in overall wins 15-13.
* Himbo
Kanaaq
* Ok I actually have a very funny backstory for Kanaaq:
* Kanaaq was offered her powers after saving a kid from getting crushed under falling debris in an earthquake, but her pogo stick broke in the process. So when foxolotl presented her with the “I’ll grant you a wish or give you a cool power if you promise to be a magical girl” she asked for her pogo stick to get fixed and IMMEDIATELY regretted it cus she’s trans and she very quickly realized she could’ve used her wish for free top-surgery lmao 😂
* She is sick nasty on her pogo stick like she can do backflips and stuff it’s crazy. Carrie refuses to take her to her usual skate park cus she doesn’t want to get shown up by someone on a pogo stick. Because Kanaaq would absolutely EAT her in a trick competition lmao 😂
* I also have ideas for 2 playable characters that’ll eventually be Kanaaq’s girlfriends but I gotta focus on the main cast first lol.
Iris
* Foxolotl brought her to life cus her fungal colony was solely responsible for saving a dying tree from decay and deforesters. She’s like 2 years old.
* Her magical girl transformation turns her into the guy, she’s normally just a mushroom. When she isn’t in her person form she lives on a tree outside of Rumblebella’s house :)
Bea
* Very successful manager for a restaurant franchise based on her parents restaurant.
* Despite both of her parents being chefs she can’t cook for shit!! She had tried to learn so many times and it just does not work. Only thing she can really make is cereal and she’s on thin fucking ice with that.
* Her wish was to have fans as weapons, like Katana from mortal kombat. Foxolotl gravely misinterpreted this!! And that is why she has a box fan. Bea is still mad at him for this.
* Huuuuuge fuckin dork. Reads a lot of comics, loves super hero movies, plays a lot of fighting games. Mains Anji in guilty gear.
Gwen
* Works for the coast guard (I imagine they all live in a coastal town in California) and got her wish (and most of her scars) from saving her crewmate from a shark when he fell overboard during a storm.
* She actually wore an eyepatch for a long time before the pirate look because she has strabismus in her left eye and has always been self conscious about it.
Montero
* He is an actual, rootin tootin cowboy. Small town sherif with his own ranch and everything 😂
* Killed his former best friend in a standoff after a series of events led her to becoming corrupted and evil. He still feels terrible about it.
Rumblebella
* Rumblebella was originally a toy owned by a young girl who experienced physical abuse at the hands of her father. Foxolotl brought Rumblebella to life to BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THAT GUY and it worked and he’s gone. Toy story brought to its logical conclusion.
* In lieu of legs, she can float!
* Can eat food and it scares everyone. Where does it go 👁👁
Lucy
* Got her wish after saving a guy from getting crushed under a huge weight while working out without a spot at the gym. Afterwards her wish was to “be able to fall asleep instantly and always wake up feeling rested.” She was ripped before the wish lmao these things are unrelated.
Kasomar
* Personally asked Foxolotl to make them a magical girl so they could experience what it was like to be human. This was kinda a stretch for Foxolotl’s abilities so best he could do was compress them into a weird-stretched human body. Kasomar experiences all time at once’s like Dr. Manhattan, but despite this is still able to make meaningful friendships.
* CAN ALSO EAT FOOD DESPITE NOT HAVING A MOUTH FOXOLOTL DOESNT EVEN KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED
Dahlia
* Dahlia died in the mid 1800’s around the time of the civil war. Her family owned slaves and her moral opposition to this eventually led to her helping the family on her estate escape and then got her killed by her family’s guardsmen. Foxolotl was impressed with her bravery and decided to revive her as a magical girl but fucked up SO SEVERELY that her spirit and body were separated in the process.
* Dahlia is actually the first zombie like ever??? Ghosts exist in this world but zombies don’t. Not too many necromancers out there lol
* To differentiate who they’re talking about the gang has taking to calling the two of them Zahlia (zombie Dahlia) and Ghalia (ghost Dahlia). Ghalia does not like this
* Oops! Catholic guilt!
Carrie
* Takes up a bunch of minimum wage and odd jobs to support herself so she can spend more time pursuing her hobbies. She doesn’t have any great career aspirations. June is slightly disappointed in this but doesn’t say anything about it.
* Was raised by a single mother and thinks that Tony Hawk is her biological father. She does not know that Tony Hawk is a human.
Foxolotl
* He has a mom! I drew my mom a Mother’s Day card with Foxolotl and his mom on it so I’m deciding Mamalotl is canon lol.
* Where did he come from?? What’s his purpose?? We may never know!! He is very bad at it though, whatever it is.
* He’s kind of a god? But like a low level god. Kasomar held more power than him pre-transformation. Like god and Zeus and whatever are legendary Pokémon and Foxolotl is a mythical Pokémon lmao 😂

Hey, isn’t that ZACH QUINN. I thought they went away for the summer? Did you hear they might be a HUMAN? What I do know for certain is that they’re 37, and they’re CONFIDENT and GULLIBLE. They’re originally from MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, and have been in FENRIRSWOOD for 6 MONTHS living in GRANT PARK. I wonder if they still work at STARSTRUCK as a BARTENDER. Best if they stay safe for now.
Basics.
Full Name: Zach Quinn. Nickname(s): n/a Age: 37 Date of Birth: August 8th, 1985. Hometown: Melbourne, Australia. Current Location: Fenrirswood, United Kingdom. Gender: cismale. Pronouns: he/him. Orientation: bisexual. Occupation: Bartender at Starstruck. Education level: Bachelors Degree in Anthropology. Living Arrangements: Owns a penthouse apartment in Grant Park where he lives with his dog.
Family.
Father: Andrew Quinn. Lawyer, and comes from old money. ( FC: Jeff Bridges ) Mother: Julienne Quinn. Hotel heiress with a DBA in marketing. ( FC: Christine Baranski ) Sibling(s): none. Pet(s): a 2 year old goldendoodle named Sunny. (i know it's very uncreative, but the pics of chris hemsworth and sunny are so CUTE)
Personality.
Positive Traits: confident, sociable, warmhearted. Negative Traits: gullible, impulsive, unpredictable. Fears: failure and betrayal most of all. But also the deep sea. Hobbies: video games, some drawing, he's actually pretty good at baking (his specialty is special brownies).
More about Zach.
Zach comes from a well off family in Australia. He has only really known a lifestyle where things are handed to him, the newest and flashiest tech, cars, and high end fashion. His childhood was good, he has no complaints. His parents were around, and he has a good relationship with them. If anything, he wishes he had siblings. Zach has been everywhere, more or less. After graduating with a degree in anthropology he decided it was time to explore the world and get more hands on experience in his field. To fund his “I’m better than a motel” lifestyle he picked up bartending to earn enough money for a hotel room while travelling. Well, either that or stayed over at someone’s house. Don’t let the bachelors degree fool you, Zach is far from the sharpest tool in the shed. He knows, but he also knows he’s good looking so, does it really matter? He has been travelling on and off for the last 5-6 years. He is ready to slow down a little, but not sure if he’s ready to settle for something permanent already. Deep down there’s still that globetrotter that wants to explore every corner of the planet. This man wouldn’t recognise a werewolf or a witch if they bit him in the butt. He has absolutely no idea that there are other species around him, he’s just happy to be included.

They Howl At Night(6/?)
Crossposted on Ao3
Enrico hurried down the street.
He ran around a corner and breathed out before pulled out his phone and finished typing his message. He skimmed the text and deleted the last sentence, then pressed send.
Enrico lowered his phone to his bag, then paused.
An aura full of suspicion and concern was staring in his direction.
He fiddled with the hair clip he was wearing, then looked back.
He now saw a kid, short, if human, possibly five to seven years old, though the magic streaming from them suggesting otherwise, still staring at him. He could swear were squinting at his shadow, though the thickness of their aura was still muddling his regular sight.
He looked down and saw the shadow of two antlers, not extremely visible next to his head, but visible enough. He twiddled with his hair clip a little more until they disappeared, then looked up
to see the kid he was now definitely sure was not a kid staring at him even more suspiciously.
He tried at a nervous grin, and the kid rolled their eyes and turned away, walking into an alleyway on the other side of the street.
He breathed out a breath he didn’t notice he was holding, looked left and right, (then left again for good measure,) before dashing into an alleyway himself.
He walked to a bin leaning at the side of the alleyway, looked up one last time for good measure, then rolled it to a side to reveal something that looked like an unfinished ward or sigil.
Then he pulled a piece of chalk out of his pocket and began to draw a line through it.
The Sigil - definitely not a ward - lit up, and a trap-door appeared were it had been, the sigil engraved on it.
Enrico climbed in and lowered his bag down before closing the door, which instantly turned into a sigil again. He climbed down and was hit by a wave of magic from the wards.
He clipped of the hair clip (a disguised aura blocker), and instantly felt some of the pressure loosen.
He walked down the corridor, lined with wards, before walking past the biggest ward, this one pulsing red instead of blue. The little red shard in the middle was pulsing, a feature that made the entire ward seem like the heart of the facility, which always unsettled Enrico.
He walked through the door that came just after and was met with the extremely satisfied grin of his top scientist, Dr. Arktis. “Great call on sending that new girl those WHOs, Mr Addams! We’ve already gotten a new subject, and a new one is prone to be on it’s way! ”
He pointed at a screen, where a girl, possibly 16 or older, was staring at the camera gloomily.
Her dark hair matched the slightly dark skin tone perfectly, which made her look beautiful despite her unhappy frown.
Underneath the picture, there was information listed about her. Name, Gender, Age.
19. Huh. She was older than she looked.
Enrico could have sworn he’d seen her somewhere, but he wasn’t sure where.
“So… Who’s new?” Enrico looked around the Cages lined up around the walls.
“He is! And isn’t he a wonderful specimen?” Dr. Arktis’ eyes lit up as he guided Enrico to the cage, where a man was sitting, staring at something that no one but him could see and muttering something about his favourite socks to the cage.
“Okay, Okay, watch this. McKindley.” The Subject stopped talking about socks to the cage and looked at Arktis. “Stand up.” The Subject stood up a little shakily, balance swaying a bit .
“Look how obedient he is! He could sell very expensively. ” Enrico prodded the subject in the cheek, and examined the stump that replaced where the subject's right arm would have been.
“Was the Arm always missing or was it damaged in the process of getting transported here? Damaged merchandise loses some of it’s value.”
Dr. Arktis’ smile dropped. “It was already like that when he came here. Seriously, Addams, you think I can’t get some merchandise here in one piece even after I designed this entire base on my own? A little more trust couldn’t hurt.”
Anyone who didn’t know the real Enrico would not have believed how threateningly he managed to glare at Arktis.
“I need people to know that my Products are of top quality.”
“Yes sir.” Dr. Arktis looked at his feet.
Just as Enrico turned to go, Dr. Arktis called to him.
“Wait! Sir.” Enrico turned back. Obviously his annoyance must have shown, because Arktis flinched before beckoning him back to the cage.
“The thing you wanted me to do...” Arktis was grinning again “I managed!”
Enrico looked at the Doctor as he pulled out a small remote.
There were two buttons on it. One was red, and the other was green.
“Press the green button!” Arktis was practically bouncing up and down on the spot now, his lab coat bouncing up and down in rhythm with his jumps.
Enrico hesitantly pressed the glowing green button, and the collar around the subjects neck immediately responded with a high pitched squeal.
Enrico stared at the subject, and a menacing grin formed on his lips as he saw what was happening.
“Well done Andrew. You get a gold star.”
...
Enrico shut the trap-door and sneaked out of the alleyway, checking left and right, (and left for good measure,) before dashing round the corner.
He pulled out his phone and went to his messages app, where he made to send a bonus to a contact marked as ‘ArktisAndrew’.
Just as he sent it, he bumped into a girl that was coming round the corner.
“Watch it!” the girl was glaring at him. He almost couldn’t see her aura for the werewolf curse was muddling up every bit of it.
He looked at her face closely and noticed why she had seemed so familiar.
She was the girl that was sitting in the empty coffee shop.
She was the girl on the screen.
She was the next target.

We need more fics with Andreil as monsters (or mythological creatures).
Neil as a vampire and Andrew as a werewolf. (They have known each other for hundreds of years).
Sometimes they have lived together and other times they have had to separate to avoid drawing attention to themselves.
Neil would definitely start false rumors about vampires just to tease people. (Also to make living among humans easier).
Andrew doesn't turn into a wolf on a full moon because he needs to but for aesthetics.
Andrew (1654): I hate you.
Neil *two hundred years later*: was he flirting with me? OH- Oh...

can you give me one random fact about all of ur tw ocs?
ABSOLUTELY, thank you, bby! 🥺
BECCA CARLYLE
She is the queen of my heart and I am sooo excited for her to like rip Jackson a new one akjghjhg 😂
Becca is actually a lot more insecure that she lets on but she’s very good at putting on a steely facade. Being in charge of the other four is actually something that she’s fairly good at (which is why she’s the Alpha). However, Becca has a tendency to worry about the effects of her actions on others, generally after the fact since she and Tess are both very impulsive. They can definitely egg each other on and don’t always encourage the best qualities in each other but they are ride and die for each other.
SIMON PLAYFAIR
He and Tess are mlm/wlw solidarity soulmates. They are both physically affectionate especially with each other to the point that Jackson mistakes them for dating early on. He is the middle of the road compared to brash Becca and Tess and gentle Andrew and Lia. Simon is gay. He loves to play card games and carries both a lighter and a deck of cards on him at all times. Simon plays rugby when he’s not busy with supernatural on-goings.
TESS DOUGLAS
She is a werecoyote to everyone else’s werewolf. Becca and Simon are both her best friends but those express themselves differently. She and Simon are very yin-yang and complementary whereas she and Becca are very similar. Tess is very blunt and will not hesitate to tell you what she thinks of you. Tess is a lesbian. She has a bunch of tattoos. Tess loves sweets, the more artificial tasting the better. I’ve been thinking of giving her a siren gf, inspired by Remy!
ANDREW SAYER
He loves fashion and nearly always carries around at least a pen for doodling. Andrew draws most frequently in his sketchbook, on scraps of paper, and post-its. In a pinch, he’ll draw on himself or on Simon. Lia is his go-to human model for clothes he’s making (and his best friend) but all of them have sported his creations at some point in time. Andrew’s family disowned him when he came out as trans and he hasn’t had contact with them since. He loves Jane Austen.
LIA HAKIM
Lia is babie. Her full name is actually Nazli. Lia’s dad is Turkish, her mom is Iranian, and they’re both Muslim. She is the youngest of the five. Lia is sweet and sensitive and the others are all very protective of her. They have all made her cry before and maaaybe it’s a bit of projection that makes them get so furious at Jackson for doing it. Lia doesn’t hold grudges but she is the type of person that makes you want to hold them for her. She loves books and plants and baking. Andrew is her best friend in the whole world, which is notable given Lia’s superpower is the ability to inspire friendship in others. They often have an informal two-person bookclub going on and love to debate the various merits and weaknesses of literature.
If I was sorting them into the Five-Man Band, they’d be as follows:
The Leader - Becca
The Lancer - Simon
The Big Guy - Tess
The Smart Guy - Andrew
The Heart - Lia
and Jackson would be the Sixth Ranger. (Not a completely perfect fit, Simon and Tess kind of alternate between their slots but yeah.)
Sorry this took me so long!

"Francis Home for Teenage Werewolves”?
So, if you remember my Julycanthropy story from last year, this is the novel that it spun off from. The premise is that in this world, werewolves are real, everybody knows it, and new werewolves are legally required to go to a facility where they learn to not kill people every night.
I was really excited about this idea for a week or two, but it petered out after 25 pages. I definitely want to return to it one day, but I’ll need to change a lot. Particularly the protagonist, who’s not very interesting.
I’m supposed to post a snippet, right? Wow, the first chapter is kind of a mess. Let’s find something readable.
She reached into her drawer and took out three pamphlets, handing one to each of us. It showed a handsome brick building and had the heading Francis Home for Teenage Boys: the state’s top adolescent treatment center for lycanthropy.
“Does this really have to be today?” Mom repeated weakly. “It’s just—Andrew hasn’t even had time to say goodbye to our other children.”
“We’re required to transport him there as soon as possible. I suggest that you two go home, pack his things, and then come to help him settle in. Bring your other children along, if you like. Read the pamphlet, it says that you can visit whenever you want. And he can bring just about anything—cell phones, computers. Again, this isn’t meant as a punishment; it’s more like going to the hospital.”
“But I don’t really have a choice about going, do I?”
Ms. Blum gave a wan smile. “If you have a problem that requires a hospital visit, why wouldn’t you choose to go?”
I’ve always hated hospitals. I had to stay in one for three weeks when I was a little kid. But I did like the idea of being...well, not like I’d been the night before.
“How long am I going to be there?”
A split-second hesitation. “Until you have adequate control of your condition.”
“The way that you say that makes it sound like a long time.”
“As I said, the results vary from person to person. Some people only need to stay for a few weeks. Most likely it will be a few months.”
“A few months?! But—I can’t just disappear for months! What about my friends?! What about school?! I’ll have to repeat a grade if I miss that much!”
“The facility has its own classes. Again, I know this is difficult,” she said, speaking up before I could protest more. “But I’m sorry to tell you, we really don’t have a choice here. The law requires that we register you as a werewolf, and that means that we have to find you a safe place to shift by tonight. So it’s either the Francis Home, or a jail cell.”
I collapsed into my chair. I felt like I had been slapped. Despite her calm tone, Ms. Blum was confirming what I’d secretly feared—I was no longer safe. Pretending that I was normal would put other people at risk.
Mom said, “Are you really so sure that he’s a—danger to anyone? Andrew is such a good boy, even if—”
“Mom, I ate a dog.”
Beat. “I know, Andy, but that wasn’t your fault.”
“But I still did it. I mean, I don’t want to go to this place, especially not for months, but...I also don’t want to eat any more dogs. Or people.”
Mom and Dad exchanged a look. I looked down at the pamphlet anxiously.
“I’ll draw up the paperwork,” Ms. Blum said. “There’s a lot to do to get Andrew ready for tonight.”

A film, also called a movie, motion picture or moving picture, is a work of visual art used to simulate experiences that communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty, or atmosphere through the use of moving images. These images are generally accompanied by sound, and more rarely, other sensory stimulations.[1] The word """"cinema"""", short for cinematography, is often used to refer to filmmaking and the film industry, and to the art form that is the result of it.

❏ COPYRIGHT CONTENT ❏
Copyright is a type of intellectual property that gives its owner the exclusive right to make copies of a creative work, usually for a limited time.[1][2][3][4][5] The creative work may be in a literary, artistic, educational, or musical form. Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative work, but not the idea itself.[6][7][8] A copyright is subject to limitations based on public interest considerations, such as the fair use doctrine in the United States.
Some jurisdictions require “fixing” copyrighted works in a tangible form. It is often shared among multiple authors, each of whom holds a set of rights to use or license the work, and who are commonly referred to as rights holders.[citation needed][9][10][11][12] These rights frequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and moral rights such as attribution.[13]
Copyrights can be granted by public law and are in that case considered “territorial rights”. This means that copyrights granted by the law of a certain state, do not extend beyond the territory of that specific jurisdiction. Copyrights of this type vary by country; many countries, and sometimes a large group of countries, have made agreements with other countries on procedures applicable when works “cross” national borders or national rights are inconsistent.[14]
Typically, the public law duration of a copyright expires 50 to 100 years after the creator dies, depending on the jurisdiction. Some countries require certain copyright formalities[5] to establishing copyright, others recognize copyright in any completed work, without a formal registration.
It is widely believed that copyrights are a must to foster cultural diversity and creativity. However, Parc argues that contrary to prevailing beliefs, imitation and copying do not restrict cultural creativity or diversity but in fact support them further. This argument has been supported
by many examples such as Millet and Van Gogh, Picasso, Manet, and Monet, etc.[15]
❏ ADAPTATION ❏
As referenced, I Still Believe is coordinated by the Erwin Brothers (Andrew and Jon), whose past executive works incorporate such Movies like Moms’ PARTICULAR DATE, Woodlawn, and I COULD Only Imagine. Given their partiality fascination strict based Christian films, the Erwin Brothers appear to be much the same as an appropriate decision in presenting to Jeremy Camp’s story to a realistic portrayal; moving toward the material with a specific sort of gentBookmark this siteleness and truthfulness to the procedures. Much like I COULD Only Imagine, the Erwin Brothers shape the component around the life of a well known Christian artist; introducing his humble begiings and the entirety of the hardships that he should look en route, while melodic tunes/performaBookmark this sitence mulling over significance of the film’s account story movement. Saying this doesn’t imply that that the film isn’t without its heavier minutes, with the Erwin, who (once more) know about strict hints topics inside their undertakings, outline I Still Believe convincing messages of adoration, misfortune, and recovery, which (as usual) are very crucial to watch and experience throBookmark this siteugh misfortune.
This even addresses the film’s content, which was peed by Erwin siblings playing twofold obligation on the undertaking, which has a lot of sincere emotional minutes that may surely pull on the heartstrings of certain watchers out there along with give to be a significant drawing in story of going directly through misfortune and difficulty and finding a reclamation circular segment to get away from it. That is particularly made bounteously clear when working with a deadly ailment that is like what Melissa goes through in the film, which is pretty all inclusive and intelligent in everybody’s reality, with the Erwin Brothers painting the agonizing excursion that Melissa brings with Jeremy close by, who must sort out some way to adapt to agony of a friend or family member. There is a “twofold edge” blade to the film’s content, yet I’ll specify that underneath. Get the job done to express, the film settles rapidly in to the recognizable example of a strict religious component that, while not actually cleaned or unique, could be the “comfort food” to a few; anticipating a healthy message of confidence, expectation, and love. By and by, I didn’t know about Jeremy Camp and the account of he and Melissa Heing, so it was a significant impactful excursion that was contributed unfurling through the whole film’s procedures. As a side-note, the film is a lttle bit a “tragedy”, so for people who inclined to crying during these emotional ardent motion pictures… .get your tissues out."

Hello! Congrats on your 5k followers! You totally deserved it! ♡♡♡
Could I ask for male ship from Harry Potter Marauders Era, LOTR and Criminal minds?
Im tall, rather curvy girl with pale complexion, dark eyes and dark wurly hair, which make me pretty anxious. I have tattoo on my ribs with my dog's paw print. Because of oils I use I smell like rose and ginger.
Im INFP, Sagittarius, Slytherin/Thunderbird.
Im really shy, but at the same time I have strong personality. Im sarcastic and stubborn. People say Im acting cold and distant but I love small form of affection, cuddles and playing with my hair.
I am interested in astronomy, I love watching night sky. I also love art, I draw sometimes and paint, because I like creative activities. I am coffee and chocolate addict. I am afraid of water, spiders and ladybugs.
Thank you in advance! ♡
Thank you!~
I hope you like them :)
Marauders:
I ship you with Remus.
I picked Remus because I think you would bond over shared interests, similar personality traits, and would feel comfortable around each other.
Though you were in different houses, you and Remus met through classes. You thought you might not get along, as most Griffindors disliked Slytherins and vice versa, but after working together on an assignment, you got along every well and formed a strong friendship.
Remus loves astronomy as well, so when he found out that you loved it too, he felt even closer to you. You two would often sneak to the observatory together at night.
Something Remus loves about you is your creative side, he loves art though he is not great at it himself; so he enjoys it through your work.
You get along well with Sirius, James and Peter, which makes Remus very happy.
You were one of the first people he shared his secret with when he was turned into a werewolf, because he trusts you with anything and everything.
Also, he really likes your tattoo.
Tumblr media
(Andrew Garfield as Young Remus Lupin f.c.)
-
Lotr:
I ship you with Legolas.
I think Legolas would appreciate your shy side, as well as your more sarcastic and stubborn sides, finding them to contradict each other yet make you the best version of you you could be.
Legolas loves staring at the stars, so one night after he saw you admiring them he began to invite you out at night to watch them with him.
He appreciates your intuitive and emotional sides tremendously. He himself can have a hard time expressing himself at times, but he finds it easier around you, because the feelings he has are so profound.
Legolas loves your curly hair and will definitely run his fingers through it while you are lounging together. He will also put small braids throughout your hair as well.
He is almost astounded at how you always smell really good, even after going on a quest that gets you all dirty. He doesn’t understand, and you don’t tell him, let him bask in the wonderment.
He finds it amusing sometimes that you are afraid of ladybugs, spiders, or even water, but this does not stop him from “protecting” you from all three.
Tumblr media
-
Criminal Minds:
I ship you with Spencer Reid.
I think Reid would be enticed by you upon first meeting, and once getting to know you a little more, would appreciate your talents and the similarities ou both share, causing him to want to be with you.
Reid loves astronomy/space, so he would invite you to a really great observatory as your first date.
Reid could see through the “cold and distant” facade that some people misjudged, and is not afraid to get close to you, as he knows how you really feel.
He can appreciate small forms of affection as much as you, so he has not problem with just lying around cuddling for a while.
He also loves that you always smell good, and will by rose and ginger scented room sprays for times when you are away from each other, because he got so used to your presence; so he sprays his pillows/bedsheets so he can feel comforted at night.

TLH; theories, expectations and hopes.
Kinda want to talk about downworlder appearances here. A little more than a long post.
» 2. Downworld Denizens.
note: to all those who haven’t yet read TDA, GOTSM etc. (because ik a few who haven’t read them yet) this post is not for you.
TL;DR this post talks about the proportion (no math here) of downworlder appearances in each of the series and novellas we have read. The Bane Chronicles not included.
For understanding’s sake, I’ll divide the downworld as the shadow market does. Into four major segments: warlocks, faeries (with sub-divisions), vampires and werewolves. While we do see other groups of non-shadowhunters and mundanes like the irfits, the djinns, the kelpies, sprites and wights, the mermaids, witches etc. we haven’t seen much of them be a major part of the plot as the above mentioned four do.
That being cleared, let’s start series wise.
▸ In The Mortal Instruments, we saw all the four interact. More than interact, actually. Every one of them played a major role in turning the series around.
Vampires, we know what Simon Lewis, Raphael and Lily did. What antagonists Camille Belcourt and Maureen did and how they shaped the series.
Werewolf packs, there were revolutions and the emergence of newer and stronger packs.
Warlocks, Magnus Bane, of course, but Ragnor played a part in the first trilogy and we saw Catarina’s abilities in the later half. Tessa was briefly mentioned and the timeline added up by the time COHF ended.
In TMI, the Seelie Court entirely turned the tables while TDA picked up the thread from its counterpart, the Unseelie Court. Mark was taken away by the wild hunt which sets the precedent to TDA.
And, The End.
[It’s been two years since I’ve read TMI and I barely remember things from it. All those I do remember is from vague readings that I did from wikia or see Dani’s rereading posts. There are inaccuracies here, but the jist remains the same.]
▸ Walk over to The Infernal Devices.
Magnus Bane was a crucial character in the series, with a random appearance from Ragnor Fell. We saw Mortmain’s parents too, the warlocks whose deaths Mortmain wanted to avenge. Tessa is not a major warlock character. She’s the protag.
The Dark Sisters, a pair of witches, who unethically and literally shaped Tessa because she possessed the ability to shape-shift.
Vampires, Alexie deQuincy, the guy in association with the Pandemonium, the club that Mortmain ran. Camille orchestrated the attack on him besides being a side character.
Werewolves; we saw them both attack and defend Will Herondale on his way to Cadair Idris. Woolsey Scott was the head.
And that’s pretty much where downworlder appearance subsides. No mention of faeries.
▸ On to The Dark Artifices now.
Faeries played a MAJOR role in the events of TDA, which makes sense because the Cold Peace greatly influenced the beginning of the series.
Mark’s return and the eventual discovery of the alliance that Malcolm had with that dude, [for real, I actually forgot his name and I can’t remember or be bothered enough to look it up], who used Mark and Kieran as their pawns to get what they wanted.
The Unseelie King is dead, the Seelie Queen yeed her last haw and we saw the whole business with the first heir, that took its origins from Ghosts of the Shadow Market.
Oh, not to forget the ruthless Riders of Mannan.
And Thule, but we don’t talk about that here.
Vampires, well, only Nightshade and his drugs.
Werewolves, nope. None at all.
Warlocks, yesss, what with the warlock fever and such. The major warlocks we noted are Magnus, Shade Fell, Tessa and, of course, Malcolm Fade.
Hypatia Vex and Barnabas Hale also were instrumental to the plot since they detailed the tensions of the market. There’s sourness that we saw between Magnus and Hypatia, which should hint towards something.
▸ Going forth with the Novellas, in Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy, we saw each one of them be mentioned to connect the dots between TMI and TDA and then draw the strings from TID.
We noted the Uprising and the news of Lucian’s turning in the werewolf part.
Vampires, I don’t think there was any mention of them at all.
Warlocks, we saw our little Max Bluebell, Magnus and Alec as a family. Tessa is a warlock who has settled with her and our long lost love, Jem Carstairs.
Faeries, now, aah, Helen’s inhumane exile, Andrew and Arthur’s torture in the Land Under the Hill, Lady Nerissa, the brief Wild Hunt stunt when Simon got imprisoned and Mark Blackthorn *sob* etc.
▸ Ghosts of the Shadow Market:
Faeries, yet again, who, out of their spite, destroyed Matthew Fairchild’s life and we don’t how much more detrimental it is going to be ahaha pain my old fren, they harmed Jem too along with Rosemary Herondale, almost killed Tessa etc.
Vampires, still none. But we did get to see Raphael and Lily’s interactions (The Son of Dawn) and Lily’s past (The Land I Lost).
Warlocks, yes Tessa! Malcolm Fade and the weird book he was looking for in Every Exquisite Thing. (👀) Catarina Loss and her excellent healing prowess. Leopolda and her stains. Yeah, nothing more.
Werewolves, oh yes Mr. Scott, who helped end Leopolda Stain’s plans. And oh, the smuggling of yin-fen ofc in The Son of Dawn, and the kind werewolves who helped Alec, Lily, Tessa and Jem in The Land I Lost.
That’s pretty much it.
The real requirement that the post will satisfy is to see how each of them will make an appearance in The Last Hours.
Warlocks:
Magnus will not play a major role (nor do I want him to which I will explain in a further post).
Tessa is minimally using her warlock magic. You know, for the smallest of things like some healing powers, lighting a candle with magic. The small stuff. She will, also, play a major role in defeating Belial because she is Belial’s daughter though currently, she is choosing to not use her demonic powers.
Hypatia Vex is rumoured to be Magnus’ girlfriend? But I’d also like to see her as the authority of Hell Ruelle. Let’s not reduce her to being a simple love interest please.
Malcolm Fade.
I’d also like to see Catarina please Miss Clare, make it happen. 🥺
Land Under the Hill:
Faeries shall certainly make an appearance. But most of all, they’ll be more inclined to destroy the Herondale lineage. The same happened with Matthew (as we found out in The Land I Lost from Auraline’s guardian): to end the Herondales.
There is a snippet in COI wikia where Cordelia freezes when a faerie tells her not to marry a man who does not love her. I’m ready to believe this is Mother Hawthorn, Auraline’s guardian.
There are also theories that Grace is Nene. Which is a possibility, and if it is true, we can see another faerie plotline.
I’m grasping at straws at this point but,,, Jesse speaking about the Land Under the Hill when he first meets Lucie will probably mean something? This is not my strongest bet, because in Chapter 3, the idea is diminished. Jesse tells Lucie that shadowhunters know about faerie traps too. But, just in case, some food for thought.
Vampires & Werewolves:
Vampires and Werewolves WILL play an important role in shaping the series here. With little to no involvement of theirs in TID (and TDA), it is a heavy possibility.
The series took off with Elias’ punishment for being the person responsible for the deaths of werewolves in Idris. This will come back and bite the families, I’m sure.
There are theories Matthew might be stripped of his marks to either become a vampire or a werewolf. Strong bets, but I hope not. (is this how werewolves will take their revenge? who knows).
Woolsey Scott and Camille Belcourt are set to make an appearance and we do not know why.
Pandemonium is coming back too, lads and ladies and everybody else.
Lily Chen is already present and she is set to become friends, or at least acquaintances, with Camille because they spend the 1920s together.
Cordelia is going to save Lily and I cannot wait for it. 🥺
And, the end.
This will also lead more towards the building up of The Wicked Powers too.
. . .
One last warlock to talk more about is Malcolm Fade.
Around the timeline of TLH, he has a connection with the Blackthorns and for the most part, is trusted by Magnus and Ragnor as a good and virtuous man. I should believe he was, until the truth is dug out, either in 1903/04, or sometime before 1936 when Jem inquires with Sister Emilia about Annabel Blackthorn.
As per the information from TDA, Malcolm already was associated with the Unseelie King in the early 1800s, before the Accords that granted peace between downworlders and shadowhunters. He took the Black Volume of the Dead, though he is not possession of it. Yet.
Let me give you map of MF connections (mf connections lmao):
Blackthorns
Necromancy
Black Volume of the Dead
Warlock Magic aka Portals and Death Magic
Cornwall Gardens and Institute
Avenging to vengeance
Shadow Markets
Sisterhood
... This will then lead us to more interesting theories. Cassie did mention in one of her asks/answers that Malcolm is going to be a major character in this series. And you bet I’m making a theory about this too.
That concludes the post. That’s it. If you’ve managed to read this entirety, you’re either too excellent or you’re just as jobless as me. Either way, here’s your reward for bearing with me. Trust me, you won’t regret opening it.

From the moment Ashton walks into the studio and looks Luke in the eyes, Luke knows he's done for.
"Did you get any sleep last night?" Ashton asks accusingly. Luke raises his eyebrows.
"'Hey, Luke. So nice to see your face. How are you?' Thanks for asking, Ashton, I'm great."
Ashton glares. "Luke. Did you sleep at all?"
"Yes," Luke lies. The lie is offset by a yawn that forces its way out.
Ashton frowns. "Don't lie to me."
"I'm not," Luke says, lying again. The act won't last. Luke's pretty sure in all the years he's known Ashton he's never once successfully lied to him. By the look on Ashton's face — sure you're not — this won't be a first time.
Ashton doesn't give him shit. "One sec," is what he says, and then leaves before Luke can blink. He comes back only moments later. It's possible Luke's experience with time is skewed by the fact that he's been awake for almost thirty hours straight. "Okay, Andrew says you can take today off."
"What?" Luke says, horrified. "No. Why?"
"Because you're running on fumes, and in about an hour you'll crash," Ashton says bluntly. "And then you'll be useless."
"Don't boss me around," Luke argues half-heartedly, although the thought of getting to leave the studio and go take a nap feels criminally inviting. "I can work."
"And I can play guitar, but that doesn't mean I should," Ashton says. "Come on. I'll drive you home."
"What —"
"You're not driving in this state, Luke. Driving tired is just as dangerous is driving drunk."
"God, you're worse than my mum," Luke grumbles. "You can't drive me home, my car is here."
"I'll pick you up tomorrow," Ashton says. "We can do this the hard way if you want."
Luke's kind of tempted to ask what the hard way is, but he's pretty sure it just involves Ashton manhandling him into submission, and Luke doesn't really have the self-control to not easily (too easily) melt into that. Anyway, it's kind of nice, Ashton's overbearing mothering instinct directed at Luke. Not that Luke's going to admit that.
"Okay," Luke says finally. "But I'm not happy about it."
Ashton smirks, like he doesn't care, which he definitely doesn't. He wraps his arm around Luke's shoulders, and Luke leans into him as they head down to the parking garage. Luke manages to stay awake on the drive home, mostly because Ashton is humming under his breath and Luke enjoys listening. Instead of dropping Luke off, though, Ashton parks in front of his house and turns off the car.
"What are you doing," Luke says suspiciously.
"Walking you in," Ashton says, rolling his eyes. "Making sure you actually sleep."
Well. That's uncalled for. (Okay, it's not.) But the cause for Luke's sleeplessness is strewn messily across his living room floor, and Luke doesn't really want Ashton to see that.
"I promise I'll sleep," he says.
"Okay," Ashton says, and gets out of the car. Luke huffs. He loves Ashton for a lot of reasons, but sometimes he also hates Ashton for those same reasons.
"You're a little bitch," Luke says. There's zero emphasis behind the words. Ashton nods like this is a very intelligent point, and waits while Luke unlocks his front door.
The little hope Luke had held onto that maybe magic cleaning fairies had descended upon his living room dissipates as he takes in the mess. Sat in the middle of it, it hadn't seemed too bad, but now Luke can't help but see it through Ashton's eyes.
"What the fuck," Ashton says. "What's all this?"
"Tornado," Luke deadpans, and starts toward the living room to clean up the seemingly endless scraps of paper. Silently, he prays, don't offer to help, don't offer to help, don't offer to help, don't —
"Let me do that," Ashton says. Luke groans.
"No," he says. "These are secret lyrics. Not ready yet."
"Is this why you didn't sleep?" Ashton asks. Luke doesn't look at him, stubbornly shuffling page after page together in a pile, but he notices Ashton hasn't made any attempt to help. Whatever flaws he has, Ashton is always (okay, mostly) respectful not to cross any lines Luke draws. It almost makes Luke feel guilty. It almost makes him want to pass along one of these discarded attempts at writing and let him read it. But these lyrics are also, kind of, pieces of Luke's tired, heavy, three-in-the-morning soul, and nobody needs to know those lyrics, not even Ashton. Not even Luke, honestly.
"Would you stop fussing?" Luke says, finally collecting the last page. "I'm going to sleep now. You win."
"It's not, like, a battle," Ashton says. "But if you don't sleep, I will know. And I'll kick your ass."
Luke stands up and turns around, arms laden with unused lyrics, scratched over and scratched out by his own weary hand mere hours ago. Ashton's tone is teasing but his face is sincere. Luke could snipe, but at this point it would just be cruel.
"I'm gonna sleep," he says honestly. "I'm really tired. You couldn't convince me not to, anyway."
"Good," Ashton says. He shifts on his feet. "Well, I'm going to go back to the studio, then."
"Wait," Luke says. "Let me just —" He sets the papers down on his coffee table and then approaches Ashton. Ashton looks skeptical right up until Luke wraps him in a hug. "Thanks for looking out for me," Luke mumbles. "I know I'm a bitch sometimes."
Ashton squeezes Luke harder than strictly necessary and presses a kiss to his shoulder. "That's my job," he says. "As the self-appointed band dad." But it's really not his job. It's just how Ashton is; he has a compelling need to care for others, as easily as if it's built into his genetic code.
"Love you," Luke says against Ashton's neck. More than you probably know, he thinks, mind drifting to the pages of bad lyrics.
"Love you too," Ashton says. He pulls away from Luke. "Now go to sleep, for fuck's sake."
Luke smiles cheekily. "Bye."
"I'll know," Ashton warns, backing out the front door.
Luke hums and continues to smirk until Ashton shuts the door. Then he shuffles his way into his bedroom and goes to sleep. To stay awake would be to disappoint Ashton, and above all, Luke would never forgive himself for that.

The Morgulon Chapter 2
https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/34542/the-morgulonWhen Greg came back to his senses, he was still laying on the ground. It took him a few seconds to realize that he was back at the camp. Someone had wrapped him in blankets, and there was a fire just a couple of yards away, but his feet were cold anyway. His whole left leg was a dull, throbbing ache. He grunted softly and turned his face to look away from the flames. He could see a couple of more campfires, and people sitting around them, but the atmosphere seemed subdued. When his father, David, Andrew, and Nathan returned from a hunt, that was always cause for celebration.
Speaking of his family, where were they? At the very least he would have expected Andrew to be there, to yell at him for putting Dolly in danger.
He turned his head back towards the fire right next to him. Beyond the flickering flames, all he could see were shadows. He thought he did see someone standing there, but he couldn’t be sure.
After a few minutes, he heard people coming closer, several pairs of heavy boots and a whispered argument. They stopped on the other side of the fire. At least one of them was still wearing the ridiculous white cape, and then he could hear Nathan growl:
“Just let her have a look, David. They checked him out, I had a look myself, he’s fine. If it makes her happy, let her waste her time.”
Greg blinked. The person in the white cape turned out to be Lane deLande, not Nathan. She was flanked by his brothers, though. David’s fingers played with Greg’s pistol when deLande kneeled down next to Greg, in a crouch that would allow her to get up again quickly.
“I want to see your face,” she said, and David said:
“You don’t have to. This is stupid. This whole thing was stupid.”
“We agree on that, at least,” deLande sighed. “He shouldn’t have been there at all.”
“He wasn’t the problem,” David growled back.
Greg looked up towards Nathan since David’s gaze was fixed firmly on deLande. The youngest of his brothers rolled his eyes at him and shrugged.
Greg had to clear his throat and start over before he managed: “I got nowhere to go tonight.”
Which at least brought the ghost of a smile to Nathan’s face.
So Lane deLande reached for his face and turned it towards the fire, staring at his skin intently. It was incredibly uncomfortable. Greg had never been this close to a woman who wasn’t his mother, and after a few seconds, he closed his eyes. A moment later, he heard David hiss, and then he felt cold metal on his skin.
“What happened to your face?” deLande wanted to know.
“Just some twigs,” Greg said, and let her turn his head a little more so that she could put the cold blade against his neck. Was this what the cow felt like before the butcher cut its throat?
Finally, deLande grunted and got to her feet again.
“Happy?” Greg asked.
“Not really,” the huntress replied, though when Greg opened his eyes, he saw her put the knife away.
“Your skin is too dark,” deLande went on. “Makes it really hard to tell whether it reddens or not, when the silver touches it. Especially in this light. You should better keep an eye on him,” she added in David’s direction, who did not go for her throat, although Greg could see that it was a close thing.
“Of course, Lady Inquisitor,” Nathan griped.
DeLande glared at him, but finally left.
“Well, that was fun,” Greg muttered.
“You,” David started, stopped, and dropped to the ground. “You are so ridiculously lucky, do you even realize that?”
Nathan settled down next to him.
“I’m too pretty to die,” Greg replied, but when that didn’t even earn an eye roll from either of them, he asked: “How bad was it?”
“Bad,” David just said.
Nathan added: “You weren’t the only greenhorn who thought he’d check a copse of conifers all on his own.” He paused and added: “You were the only one who survived it. Thanks to Dolly.”
“Is that where Andrew is?” Greg asked. “She’s okay, right?”
“Dolly is fine,” Nathan sighed. “Dad’s dealing with the family of some of the men who – didn’t make it. Andrew is with him.”
Greg shuddered. “How many?”
“Thirteen, all together.”
“We lost four shooters, too,” David said quietly.
“Four shooters?” Greg echoed incredulously. Sure, it happened that a shooter wasn’t fast enough on the draw, but four of them? With a plan this well laid out? “How did that happen?”
“Well,” David said, “we shot four werewolves, and your inquisitor back there gave the signal that you guys had killed two more. So some idiots left their post, because hey, six werewolves are dead, the hunt is over and we never receive false information about anything, ever, do we? So of course the remaining two werewolves went on a rampage through what was left of the formation. They must have gotten some beaters early on, too, but no one can tell when and where at this point.”
“Crap,” Greg muttered. Four shooters and nine beaters dead.
Eight werewolves, Mithras have mercy.
Late the next morning, the mood in the camp improved slightly: Coaches and riders were coming up the road. It was time to present the dead werewolves to an official, either from the Church or an Imperial magistrate, to have the kills confirmed, and reap the rewards. With a pack as big and as dangerous as this one, there would likely be representatives of both. Possibly other interested parties as well.
Indeed, there were no less than eight men coming up the hill towards the camp. Greg had a good view of them from the back of a cart, where his brothers had put him earlier. The cleric was easy to recognize in his red robes, as was the Imperial magistrate, since no one else was allowed to wear that colour of blue. A third man wore a bright servant’s uniform, probably from a nearby Valoisian noble – hopefully, someone who had put up a bounty.
Next, there were three men in the more sober suits of the Loegrian fashion, and lastly a couple of men who were quite obviously farmers. They probably wouldn’t have any rewards to hand out, but they would carry word of their success.
For those new hunters who still needed to make a name for themselves, that was almost as important as the money.
Greg watched from a distance how the men with the gravitas of their respective offices inspected each carcass and then had to witness how the heads were cut off. He couldn’t quite stop himself from grinning: the cleric and the Imperial magistrate were so clearly uncomfortable. Bram was standing right next to them. From his gesturing, Greg was guessing that his father was trying to leverage their discomfort into a higher reward. After all, the agreed-upon rates had been for only six werewolves, not eight.
Eventually, the last head fell and a cheer went through the huntsmen gathered close to the negotiation. The magistrate fled, waving to his servants, the cleric stayed just long enough to see the eight heads bagged before he too fled down towards his coach. Greg’s father ambled after them. The cheering grew louder when the armed servants of the officials carried up huge strongboxes full of silver.
Greg closed his eyes. Dividing the silver would take its sweet time. His father would get extra pay for organizing the whole thing, and deLande probably a little something for leading the beaters, too. Then there were fixed rates just for showing up, which generally barely paid for your expenses if you were a beater. Next, there was the success premium, which again, everybody would receive, and made the whole thing worthwhile.
Lastly, there were the general kill awards and the bounties, by far the most money, which would go to those eight individuals who had fired the killing shots. Unless of course one of the monsters had been brought down through a group effort, in which case things could get really complicated. Because the one who fired the killing shot also took home the pelt, and werewolf pelts fetched high prices with the Valoisian nobility, especially back in the homeland. If a werewolf hadn’t been active long and hadn’t amassed a bounty yet, the price of the pelt often trumped the official rewards for the kill.
Greg woke with a scream when the cart under him started moving. Even the slightest bump made his leg hurt as if there was a draft horse kicking him in the thigh.
“Oh, hey,” Andrew said. “You’re awake.”
“No shit,” Greg muttered to himself. He had to bite his tongue to suppress another whimper of pain.
“Yeah, sorry,” Andrew said. “It’ll get better once we reach the main road. Here, that should cheer you up.”
He dropped a leather bag full of something heavy onto Greg’s chest.
“What’s that?”
“Your reward, genius. One bag full of silver, and some gold to pad it out.”
Greg closed his eyes and breathed through the pain when they hit the next pothole. Andrew was right, though. The thought of his first earnings did cheer him up. He could buy a horse with the money – once he could walk again, anyway – and still have plenty left for a rainy day.
He really wished he had some laudanum, but all he got was a bottle of whiskey when they stopped for the night. They had just made it over to the next village, which didn’t even have an inn. When the farmers heard who they were, they were happy at least to let them stay in one of the barns, which was dry and sheltered from the icy wind that had picked up. Greg was cold anyway. By the time his brothers heaved him back onto the cart, he felt hot and feverish.
For the remainder of the journey, he dropped in an out of consciousness. Whenever he woke up, someone was sitting with him, mostly Andrew, but David and Nathan took turns as well, and once, there was his father poking at his broken leg. That time, Greg was really glad when he passed out again.
Finally, he woke up in his own bed, in their townhouse in Deva. Dr. ibn Sina was sitting at his bedside, who had taken over for his father as the family’s doctor just recently, and on Greg’s other side was his mother Imani. It was embarrassing how incredibly glad he was to see her. When she hugged him a little awkwardly, he was relieved that the young doctor got up and left them alone.
Had David cried like this in their mother’s arms after his first hunt, Greg wondered as he blinked away the tears. Had Andrew and Nathan?
If they had, his mother didn’t mention it. She did ask, however: “Does this mean that you do not wish to go hunting again?”
Greg pushed himself upright as much as he could and wiped the tears from his face. “What?” he asked. “No! I – it was just…”
He stopped, confused, when his mother reached for his hand. “I did not think you would change your mind so quickly,” she said. “But I can live in hope, can’t I?”
“Uh, sure,” Greg muttered. “Uh – what would you have me do?”
His mother smiled sadly, just with her glittering black eyes. “I always thought you liked the city,” she said, standing up. “The theatre, the music halls, even the lectures of Mr. Higgins. And I would have liked to keep at least one of you closer to home. Mr. Higgins will be disappointed, too. You know, he had some hope of getting you perhaps even into parliament.”
“Or poetry,” Greg muttered darkly to himself.
“You used to enjoy literature,” his mother pointed out.
Greg shrugged. “Sure,” he said. “But I don’t want to be one of those sappy romantics who waste all their time just dreaming of adventures, instead of living some.”
“But what if all your adventures go like this one?”
Greg thought about it for a moment. “Then at least I’ll have done some good in the world, instead of just talking about it,” he decided.
His mother nodded slowly, but she didn’t look convinced, Greg thought. He was almost sure she would say something more about the matter, but ibn Sina returned to take his temperature. Greg closed his eyes and tried to think himself somewhere else.
Ibn Sina insisted on repeating the embarrassing and uncomfortable procedure three times a day for a whole week, even though Greg didn’t feel feverish at all anymore. He actually felt really good. The doctor had secured his leg in a splint, and with help from David and Nathan, he spent a lot of time out in the garden, where, despite the cold, he had lessons with Mr. Higgins.
Mr. Higgins was the teacher who had educated them all since they were kids, and he was at least as disappointed as Imani when Greg’s injury didn’t stop him from wanting to go hunting again. So he spent the whole time trying to change Greg’s mind, until, at the end of the week, Greg actually felt relief when ibn Sina interrupted a lecture because he wanted to talk to him in private.
“I have to ask you,” the doctor started, as soon as they were alone.
“Sure,” Greg said, perplexed, because the young physician stared at him intently, looking worried.
Ibn Sina huffed softly, opened his mouth, stopped himself, started again, and finally asked: “Did you use any kind of magic to speed up the healing process?”
Greg just stared at him, mouth agape.
“Magic,” he finally managed. “Where would I have found a healer? When?”
“So you didn’t use any magic?”
“No,” Greg said, as firmly as he could. He knew that ibn Sina, just like his father, had strong views about using any kind of magic. Apparently, there was a taboo against it in their religion. There had been a time, when Greg had been very young and the last plague had hit Deva, when his father had consulted a healer about his mother’s illness. Greg had been too young to understand the details, but he remembered ibn Sina senior storming out of the house and not returning for over a year.
He didn’t want the doctor to run out on him. And he really hadn’t used any sort of magic.
But to his surprise, ibn Sina didn’t look assuaged. Quite the contrary: he buried his face in one hand for several seconds. Eventually, he looked around and led Greg upstairs to his room. Walking the stairs became easier every day, but the doctor’s firm grip surprised Greg, and nearly pulled him off balance.
“I need you to think very carefully,” the doctor said, as soon as the door closed behind them. “Did you ever – purchase some kind of amulet, a charm maybe, or make some sort of deal with – with an entity of some sort, even as a child, even if you thought it was just a joke, or – or a dream... Maybe some strange blessing…”
When Greg kept shaking his head, he trailed off, looking crestfallen. He rubbed his face again, swearing in a language Greg didn’t understand.
“What’s going on?” Greg asked when the doctor wouldn’t say anything further. “What’s the problem? I’m feeling great.”
“Yes,” ibn Sina sighed. “That is precisely the problem.”
When Greg looked at him blankly, he continued: “You were really, really sick when you got here, Greg. You fevered for the three days of the journey, and then another day and night after you were back home, and I don’t think you even remember. Because you were slipping away, Greg, we were losing you. And then suddenly we weren’t anymore, and you woke up, and you were fine. Even your leg is healing way too fast.”
“So?” Greg asked.
“Gregory, bodies don’t work that way. I would have been willing to shrug off the fever as just incredibly good luck, or possibly even a heavenly blessing. But what your bones are doing – magic is the only explanation for that. And if you didn’t – acquire – this magic by your choice and free will, then – then you have to consider – then the most likely explanation is that you were bitten.”
“No,” Greg said. “No, I wasn’t. I was checked. Twice, actually.”
“Greg, if it was that easy to spot, don’t you think there would be fewer werewolves around?” The doctor looked at him seriously. “Especially with darker skin tones, such as yours, it’s hard to be sure before the first full moon. In fact, even a simple sunburn can make it impossible to see the reddening around the wound. Especially if it’s just a scratch.”
Greg opened his mouth, but he had no idea what he should say to this, so he closed it again after a few seconds.
“Because of your father’s occupation, I have not spoken to anyone else about this,” ibn Sina said. “And if I am wrong, I will be back after full moon and take off that splint, since you will not need it any longer. But I doubt that I am wrong. May God have mercy on you.”
With that, the doctor left. Greg just stood there, staring after him. Without thinking about it, his hand reached up to his face, to the cuts there, that had already faded to pink lines, still lighter than the rest of his skin. It couldn’t be. One of the things that made werewolf bites stand out was that they took forever to just scab over. In fact, there were a lot of stories about people who survived the initial encounter with the monster, but bled to death hours later, because even small wounds wouldn’t close.
But all of his injuries were healing faster than they should, not slower.
He stepped in front of his mirror and pulled down the neckline of his shirt. There was nothing on his neck or his shoulders, and as far as he could twist his head, nothing on his back either. He hesitated for a second, then slipped out of his room and over to his mother’s boudoir, where he nicked a hand mirror from her vanity. But that didn’t show him anything but the smooth, dark brown skin of his back, either.
Which, admittedly, was a little weird. A month ago, like most seventeen-year-olds he had had plenty of pimples on his back and face. Now, there were only a couple of tiny spots left.
The black curls on his head were too thick to see anything underneath, but when he returned his mother’s mirror, he found a silver letter opener, so he used that to run it over his head. He felt stupid doing it. Silver was supposed to be inimical to werewolves, shouldn’t he feel something when he gripped the handle of the letter opener? But the silver just felt cool. Not bad, just very cold. His fingers were starting to feel chilly from holding the letter opener.
Greg dropped the silver and stared down at his fingers. Warmth flooded back as soon as the metal cluttered onto the table. And when he stared at his hands, for the first time he noticed the teeny tiny cuts at the knuckles of his right hand. No bite marks, he was sure of that.
But. He suddenly remembered that moment when the werewolf had gripped his white cape, shaking him, remembered reaching for his knife and just blindly hacking at the wool, right next to the werewolf’s teeth.
So scratch marks?
Carefully, hesitatingly, he held out his hand, palm up. He had to take a deep breath and close his eyes before he could bring himself to brush the back of his hand over the letter opener.
It was cold, icy cold. Unnaturally cold. And it hurt. It started slowly, barely noticeable, but then the chill and the cold turned into a burn as if glowing embers had landed on his skin. Not everywhere, but he didn’t have to open his eyes to know that the burn was everywhere where the skin was still scabbed over.
Ibn Sina had been right: He was well and truly screwed.

Book Thirty-Four: Gerald’s Game
“Jessie thought that being an adult seemed more like a punishment than a reward.”
This book is nothing but one big trigger warning. You triggered by something? Gerald’s Game probably has it! I’m giving the following trigger warnings:
Lack of sexual consent
Rape
Incest
Necrophilia
Overt child sexualization
Graphic violence
Mutilation of corpses
I think I covered all of them, but I still feel like there could be room for more. Upon starting it, I referred to Gerald’s Game as, “sexy-time Cujo, but with handcuffs.” In some ways that still holds true, but it’s really just the tip of the iceberg.
The book starts with Jessie and Gerald Burlingame at their secluded lake cottage in Western Maine, getting kinky with some handcuffs. Jessie really isn’t into it, but Gerald is super pumped about his new toys. Jessie tries to tell Gerald no, but he thinks her struggling is part of the game (this book hasn’t aged well in the age of needing overt sexual consent), and tries to force himself on her. Jessie, handcuffed to the bed, kicks Gerald away, hitting him in the chest and balls. Gerald suffers a major heart attack, and dies- leaving Jessie cuffed to the bed, with the keys for the handcuffs across the room.
Cool. Cool, cool, cool.
The rest of the book is Jessie trying to free herself, while a wild dog comes in and munches on Gerald’s corpse. I had to skim past quite a few graphic passages involving Prince the dog.
Jessie tries to free herself while suddenly thrown back into a pretty terrible sexual trauma from her youth, involving her dad. Of all the weird shit in this book, this was the worst. Steve teases out a strange tension I’ve never understood: mothers being jealous of the relationship daughters have with their fathers. I think part of the reason this whole thing upset me so much is my daughter is the age Jessie was when her father was inappropriate with her, and I can’t imagine my husband ever doing anything like that. Their relationship is so cool, and I love the fact she’s a daddy’s girl. They’ve got their inside jokes, and interests I don’t participate in. But it doesn’t make me jealous. If anything, I try to foster their relationship as much as possible. This whole scene was just gross.
In addition to reliving her childhood trauma, Jessie is dealing with voices from her college friend Ruth Neary, her former therapist Nora Callighan, her childhood self, “Pumkin,” and the better wife version of herself, “Goody Burlingame.” Yeah. That’s a lot of voices.
Oh, and if the childhood trauma and voices weren’t enough, Jessie is also convinced there’s an intruder with a strange sack of jewelry that comes into the bedroom every night. I know. There’s so much bizarre-ness going on.
Jessie eventually gets herself out of the handcuffs by cutting her wrist, and letting the blood lubricate her arm enough to slip the cuff off. Yet another scene I had to skim right on past. She eventually makes it into her car, and convinced the ghost dude is in the backseat, crashes into a tree. She comes to, there’s no sign of the ghost dude, and then she drives to a local convenience store where a friend sees her bleeding out, and calls an ambulance.
Jessie wakes up in the hospital, and the cops buy her story; because there’s no reason not to. Gerald’s fellow attorney, Brandon Milheron, helps keep some of the more salacious details (the handcuffs) hidden, and he becomes Jessie’s advocate. She can’t shake the idea that there was an intruder in her room. Plus, she can’t find her wedding rings anywhere. Brandon looks into it further and guess what?
Plot twist!
There was in fact an intruder.
But does anyone even care at this point?
*Raises hand* I in fact, do not care.
But, Raymond Andrew Joubert was in fact in Jessie’s room. And he’s one gross motherfucker. Or, corpse fucker as the case may be. Castle County Sheriff Norris Ridgewick (yes! the detective from Needful Things eventually took over for Alan Pangborn!) found Joubert grave robbing, with his dick in his hand.
There’s a sentence I never thought I’d write.
But wait! There’s more!
When they searched Joubert’s van, they found his lucky necklace made of actual human dicks.
Yes.
You read that correctly. It’s like Buffalo Bill on steroids. It makes Ed Gein’s nipple belt look like amateur hour.
He claims the reason Ridgewick caught him, was because he wasn’t wearing his lucky dick necklace.
I need to shut this down. This book was one of the worst things I’ve ever suffered through. And to make matters worse, the next book is Dolores Claiborne, which is referenced several times during this book. Can’t wait for some “husband in a well” action!
There was a “gunslinger” mention, and no Wisconsin mentions. Thank God.
