#I do love an oblivious Colin

As fun as it would be to have Colin shock and stand up to Portia to ask for Penelope’s hand in marriage, I’d also like to see Portia stand up for Penelope against Colin because she’s heard about what he said at Featherington ball too and she wants better for her daughter than a man who’s so oblivious to her daughter’s feelings.
Colin: Thank you for seeing me Lady Featherington. I am here because I would like to marry Penelope. I have come to ask for her hand.
Portia: Well this is unexpected. Particularly because the gossip amongst servants following my ball last season was that you declared to anyone with ears that you would never want Penelope. I am sorry to disappoint you but she has a suitor. Lord Debling has intentions to propose. Penelope is to be a titled lady.
Colin: You would refuse me in favor of a man neither of you truly know.
Portia: He is a titled gentleman whose position demands respect and he has courted my daughter faithfully and doted on her.
Colin: And what about your daughter’s happiness? Do you not think Penelope should be able to decide for herself? She might be happier with me.
Portia: Penelope has done well for herself this season. In part, I believe, because she has finally stopped pining for you.
Colin: What can you mean?
Portia: What I mean is that I have observed Penelope as she watched you flirting and dancing with every pretty young lady you could get in front of, and then she watched you nearly marry her cousin. You never looked to her once but now you say you wish to marry her? You are a fickle-hearted man with a wandering eye and no regard for my daughter’s feelings. Marriage to you would guarantee her constant humiliation among the ton.
Colin: I was a boy then. I did not know any better. But I would never be unfaithful or seek the favor of other women if I were to marry Penelope. I would be faithful to her.
Portia: Her father once said the same thing to me yet once we wed, he spent all his time gambling and whoring and I was forced to endure in silence. You do not love my daughter. Why are you choosing Penelope, why now?
Colin: I care very much for Penelope. I wish to ensure her happiness and safety.
Portia: Lord Debling will do that Sir. You are free to continue practicing your flirtatiousness with every beautiful woman you meet, far away from my daughter. I shall not condone you distracting her any more.
Colin: You refuse me without even allowing Penelope the choice of who she would prefer for a husband?
Portia: No. I have seen the look in her eyes when you work your charm on her. I ask that you stay away. I know what is best for her… and it is not the boy who made her cry for months because she believed that he actually cared about her only to find out he was acting out of pity.
Colin: I made her cry? Penelope and I have discussed that night. I know she was angry and hurt but she said she forgave me. She never said…
Portia: Did you need it spelled out for you? Very well, you broke her heart. I will not give her to you so you can break her spirit too. The answer is no Mr. Bridgerton, please see yourself out.

Since Bridgerton S3 is coming in a few weeks it's a great time for venting my thoughts on the show
I think so far Shonda has made a great job on the show but there has been some faults: they could have changed that situation with Daphne and Simon (you know which one), they could have given Kanthony more attention and also could have made Edwina way less oblivious and a better sister (rewatching S2 has been a torture)
BUT I want to vent about the secondary plotlines, because WHEN will they (Shonda and the writers) understand that the show would be SOOOOO much better if they focused on the family with the occasional minor plotline involving other characters and NOT the other way around???????
Don't get me wrong, I love Lady Danbury, Queen Charlotte (she's grown on me after QC), Madame Delacroix, for instance. But the Mondrich's??? Why are they still around???
They were great on S1, for both the purpose of friends of the Duke and the lord featherington plotline. Keeping them for S2 i thought was a stretch. But for S3??? I simply don't see the point
The show would benefit so much from keeping the Bridgertons the main secondary plotlines. I do not care how but i would 100% prefer to see the family interactions
Think about it: it would give the ones we already know room to grow and evolve (Daphne and Anthony) and also give oportunity for get to know others (Francesca, Hyacinth and Gregory)
I was daydreaming about a few headcanons/possibilities
• Daphne being involved in Francesca's first season
• Anthony healing from the burden of being parentified so early and getting to be just a sibling
• Anthony and Kate as a role model/couple for the youngsters
• Eloise and Benedict (i just love every scene just the two of them)
• Daphne, Eloise and Francesca just being sisters together (ABC is already a solidified trio but DEF could be a good combination)
• Gregory and Hyacinth causing chaos
• ABC being big brothers to Gregory (specially Benedict and Colin could interact more with him)
• Daphne being the one to give Francesca and Eloise "the talk" so they are not as naive as she was
• both Kanthony and Daphne & Simon evolving in their marriages, facing challenges and showing more than just "happily ever after"
• Francesca and John being close to the family (and with that, the whole family can grieve him and not just Francesca)
• Kate and Simon being close with the others siblings (i get that Rege isn't coming back, but i would be nice tho)
If you read this far, i hope you have an amazing week, i wish you love and happiness and thanks for letting me vent <3

I know some people use the argument that Colin “lead Penelope on” as a reason to dislike him or want him to grovel, but that’s putting the fuckboy filter on him that he doesn’t deserve. Saying Colin was leading Penelope on implies some premeditated motive that Colin simply did not have. Lead her on to what? More friendship??
Colin was not leading Penelope on, Penelope lead herself on, I’m sorry to say it. Literally everything Colin did was accompanied by a reminder that they were just friends, with him verbally reminding her they were just friends even, and despite it all, Penelope maintained hope. That’s normal, and relatable (I know I’ve been there), but that doesn’t make her hope Colin’s fault, and with Colin being unaware of it, it especially doesn’t make it his responsibility.
Colin and Pen’s problem was that the way they saw their relationship never matched up from the beginning. From the moment they met Penelope was in love with him and framed their relationship around that love, while Colin only saw friendship. This is one person in the friendship catching feelings and trying to romanticize platonic aspects of that friendship. Penelope was always primed to treat his behavior with rose colored glasses and hope, while Colin was absolutely oblivious to how she was taking his friendliness, and worse- he couldn’t recognize her crush because that is how she’s always acted with him.
And as their childhood friendship developed into their adult years, Colin didn’t transition into treating Pen like an adult woman that he should distance himself from, because he still saw her as his friend and didn’t realize anything had changed. This is pretty much the problem behind the “You do not count” situation. Colin means he could never stop talking to her because of their established friendship, while Penelope hears “you do not count as a woman.”
Colin might’ve been acting in ways that were inappropriate for a regency man and woman to do, but within the context of them being friends for years, from before her debut, it’s obvious that Colin was just continuing childhood behaviors - not changing them in a way that would lead Penelope on- because Colin didn’t see any reason to change them. He doesn’t see a girl with a crush, he sees Pen, his old childhood friend. He didn’t think to be careful with her romantic feelings because he doesn’t know she has any. He doesn’t think to be careful with her reputation because he doesn’t consider this longstanding friendship to be scandalous.
If Colin was more situationally aware, the only way to avoid this whole thing would be for Colin to have stopped interacting with Penelope outside of basic politeness once he realized her crush on him, but as we all know, Colin doesn’t consider Pen someone he could cut off, and he is not situationally aware. And so yeah, we’re all groaning because as viewers we can see all the little ways Colin is overstepping and braking social rules, but do you really think Colin sees it?
“Leading Penelope on” implies that Colin was intentionally playing with Penelope’s feelings to get something out of her. But this is a true “Oblivious Colin” moment. Give the boy some grace, he just didn’t know!!! It’s a friends to lovers story. Colin is just in the friends phase. It might be frustrating until he falls for her, but it’s what we signed up for!

Oblivious Colin explaining to his family exactly what kind of man Penelope deserves
Colin: Penelope deserves someone who respects her, who sees how beautiful and witty she is, how kind but fierce she can be.
Benedict: Is that so?
Colin: Indeed! She has such a way with words! She desserves someone who can appreciate the way the sunlight glints off her red hair and the way her smile can light up the darkest of rooms. But she also deserves someone who can look after her and is at the very least wealthy with an earl or viscount in the family.
Anthony: Well ofcourse!
Colin: Someone who can match her wit and exchange barbs with her. Someone who is a graceful dancer and can at the very least sing. Someone well read ofcourse because a dimwit who cannot tell the difference between Byron and Blake just will not do.
Kate: Hmmhmm
Colin: Someone who knows that her favourite colour is green and that she loves daisies. Someone who bring her her favourite sweets - those eclairs from that one shop in town. Someone who notices the way she scrunches her nose while concetrating and the way she fiddles with her hands when nervous.
Francesca: Ahh
Colin: Someone who can show her the world and still give her the family she desires. But more importantly she deserves someone who truly loves her and sees her for who she is. Someone who is her true friend. I will not let her settle for anything less.
Violet: Indeed
Eloise, completely exasperated: OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD COLIN! Also Eloise, slightly grossed out: The idea of my best friend and my brother.... i cannot-
Colin, turning and giving Benedict the death stare: WAIT! What did you do? ARE YOU AND PEN- BENEDICT BRIDGERTON IF YOU SO MUCH AS LOOK AT PEN-
Benedict, with a smirk: Oh calm down brother! Eloise was clearly talking about- You are aware that you just described yourself right?
Colin: wHaT.... I most certainly did not.
Benedict: YOU respect Penelope.
Anthony, with a self-satisfied smirk: YOU are wealthy and have a Viscount in the family.
Kate: YOU are a graceful dancer and are always giggling in the corner of a ballrooms with her.
Francesca: YOU noticed all those little things about her.
Violet: But most importantly YOU are her dearest friend.
Colin: oh..
Colin, eyes wide in surprise as it dawns on him: OHI!.... I am in love with Pen.
Gregory and Hyacinth, looking at each other: Well it was about time.

Colin Bridgerton needs to suffer meta.
Wait...wait...hear me out first!
I am one of those fans that want to see Colin Bridgerton SUFFER for Penelope yes. BUT with good reason I promise.
Because aside from the book material here in the show Colin had a different path in some stories. He believed himself to be in love and got heartbroken because of it.
He actually needs to feel that burn, that suffering to realize what being truly in love actually means. To actually feel there is no comparison to the real thing. To feel that what he believed being in love meant was not actually real or comparable in any form or way with what he is capable of feeling...for Penelope. (Book reference: This was Penelope...and this was love.)
No one can blame him for seeing Penelope as a friend so far. I think that is understandable but he also is a man who has had privilege in all his life, he has traveled the world from his secure place and is oblivious when it comes to certain things. He is a great guy, loving, devoted, honorable, a flirt and whatnot, but in order to mature he needs to go through some serious introspection. He does need to find his purpose and I would like to see that too in this season (himself as -book spoiler- an aspiring writer too).
I also want him to feel the pain and the struggle that comes with the LW reveal for him to realize that when we speak about a love of the magnitude he feels for Penelope not even what he deems as betrayal can make him give her up. It just does not matter. He will defend her no matter what, he will love her no matter what.
Let me quote Doctor Who for you (yes again):
"You betrayed me. You betrayed my trust, you betrayed our friendship, you betrayed everything I ever stood for. You let me down!.... Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?”
THIS is what and who Colin Bridgerton is for Penelope but to get there he first has to realize it and for that he needs a shock. HE NEEDS THE DRAMA. He is a Bridgerton guys if he is not a messy drama queen who suffers then what is the point? lol... Colin needs to have that maelstrom of emotion. The whirlwind. The pain, the jealousy, the YEARNING, the realization. He needs to be brought down on his knees (I do not oppose to the literal thing btw lol) before he rises again. Stronger than ever. And on the ready to protect his WIFE.
There is just no other way. And I will sure enjoy this because this...is what falling in love is and this season is about romance and Mr. Colin Bridgerton is our MALE LEAD HERO and as SUCH I want him to earn his position which means: HE IS OUR BELOVED IDIOT! YES HE IS GONNA SUFFER. YES I WILL CHEER FOR IT. YES I WILL BE HAPPY FOR MY GIRL PENELOPE AS THIS HAPPENS. YES TO ALL!
IT IS TIME!
I waited long enough! Now bring me season 3!

Here's their prompt!
I have always had an idea where Colin’s biggest threat for grabbing Penelope’s attention isn’t a suitor or Eloise.
No no no.
Colin’s biggest threat and nuisance is that he consistently have to fight a big ass dog (like a mastiff, cane corso, Saint Bernard, etc) that Penelope somehow convinced her mom to keep while in the countryside and is the very definition of a Velcro dog. It growls at any potential suitor that shows an interest in Penelope (it’s the reason why She doesn’t have suitors but Penelope is not aware of that).
For Colin, it does something worse. In the rare chance, that it is not next to Penelope, it will purposely move itself right next to/on top of Penelope so Colin cannot sit anywhere near her while it stares him down. This causes to Colin and the dog to race and wrestle one another to get to Penelope’s side with Colin losing 80% of the time and him glaring it down. Penelope thinks that they are playing and are getting along but is completely oblivious of the actual situation.
Tiny woman with a big ass dog. Classic.
Here's what I'm thinking.
So the Featheringtons were out in Ireland to visit Portia's brother, Mr. Finn Carroll, and his family. During their family visit one of the cousins introduced Penelope to the puppies their dog recently had. One of those puppies became attached to Penelope.
"Aw Portia look at that Penelope made a friend!" Finn said as he slid up next to his big sister.
"No," Portia immediately said.
Finn fully looked at Portia. "No?"
"No," Portia repeated. "Finn, I do not need a dog in my house."
"Oh, come on, Porshie!" Finn said, pulling out his puppy eyes and the childhood nickname. Tricks with a proven track record for him on getting what he wanted from his sister. "Let my niece have a puppy! You're already taking away her title as baby of the family!"
Portia sighed, rubbing her pregnant belly. "Finn, I am not dumb. We were both raised with an Irish Wolfhound. That dog will most likely get bigger than Penelope, and they're made for hunting large prey!"
"Yes, but you also know they make great companions!" Finn argued. "And doesn't Penelope need a friend?"
Portia will later blame her pregnancy brain, but when the Featheringtons went home, they brought a new puppy named Artemis with them.
Well, much like the goddess she was named after Artemis was a girl's dog and hated most men. She tolerated a few like the male staff, and she tolerated Lord Featherington on a good day. But most of the time, she stayed by Penelope's side.
"It is like she is sewn to your side," Felicity commented once as Artemis laid across both her and Penelope's laps.
Penelope laughs. "She just loves me."
Artemis barked in agreement.
At her full-grown height, Artemis was about the size of a small pony and was taller than any lord Penelope had ever seen if she stood on her hind legs. Artemis faithfully sticks by Penelope's side despite Portia's groans of dog hair in Penelope's dresses. Penelope only giggles when Artemis's response is to fully lay on her.
Artemis loves her life with Penelope and would only really change one thing. One tiny annoyance in her life.
That damn Colin Bridgerton. He's trying to take Penelope away from her! And he doesn't leave when she growls at him like the other men! He even growled back at her once!
The fool tries to race her too on the rare times she is not in her rightful place by Penelope's side. Why the fool thinks he'll win against her, she'll never know.
Today just so happened to be one of those days. Artemis was out in the park with her family. She was playing with Felicity and Penelope. The two girls throwing a ball attached to a string and having Artemis chase after it.
Artemis sniffed the air and stopped. She smelled Bridgertons. Looking around she spotted the family. Now the Bridgertons themselves weren't a bad thing, a few in particular she could do without and one wished was never around.
Well, it looks like today won't be the day Artemis's wish comes true. Just as she spots Colin Bridgerton he spots her as well. They stare at each other for a moment before both take off towards Penelope.
Artemis stared smugly at the Bridgerton as she once again claimed her prize of being next to her favorite human. Her head resting in Penelope's lap as Penelope pets her.
"One of these days Artemis I'm gonna beat you," Colin swore.
Penelope giggled. "It's so nice for you to play with Artemis Colin. I'm sure she loves racing with you."
Artemis turned her stare onto Penelope, headbutting her in the red head's torso. Playing? Absolutely not Penelope. Can't you see he's trying to steal you?
"You are coming to my family's country party? Colin asked Penelope.
Artemis stares back at Colin. Why hasn't he left yet? He's lost the race.
"Yes," Penelope replied.
Artemis huffed, leaning herself fully on Penelope. Going to Aubrey Hall meant a long carriage ride, AND Colin being around every waking moment. He was worse in the countryside where he had Penelope and Artemis trapped in his family home. Well at least Penelope won't be going to that bad smelling place she goes to ever few nights. Artemis hates when Penelope comes home smelling like that. To the point she almost considered getting Colin to go look for Penelope one night when the rest of the family. If only Penelope didn't lave her in charge of Felicity.
On the trip to Aubrey Hall, Artemis lay on the floor of the carriage by her family's feet. The rock of the carriage lulling her to sleep. At least with this trip, Artemis will have more space to run around temporarily before returning to London for another few months.
Another family was arriving as Artemis' own family were getting out of the carriage.
"Oh Portia!" The mother of the other family greeted Portia.
"Hello Mary," Portia said.
The older women started talking, meanwhile Penelope struck up a conversation with the older daughter.
"How are your first impressions of Aubrey Hall Kate?" Penelope asked.
Oh Artemis has heard of Kate. She likes Kate for how frustrated she makes Anthony. It's funny to watch when Artemis is visiting the Bridgertons with Penelope.
"H-hello."
Artemis looked around before feeling the wet nose of another dog boop against her leg.
Looking down, Artemis saw the smallest dog in her life. Was it a dog? It smelled like one, but how is a dog this small?
The smaller dog stared at Artemis. "I'm Newton! Newton Sharma!"
Oh this is Kate's dog.
"Artemis Featherington," Artemis said. Bowing her head a little so she wasn't towering over the smaller dog.
Newton began to tap his two front feet. Was he nervous? Artemis laid down to be at a more even eye level with him. "Perhaps this will be better to talk?"
Newton lets out a little yelp, one of excitement and moves closer. "Yes! Have you been here before?"
Artemis nods. "Many times. How are you dealing with your interloping Bridgerton?"
"You mean the Viscount?" Newton asked. Newton moved his head a little. "Well, I did knock him into the Thames the other day."
Artemis barked out a laugh. "I'll have to remember that the next time Colin races me near it."
Newton's feet did a few quick taps. Did he have to go? Artemis wondered if she should ask him if he needs privacy.
Before she could Artemis caught a movement out of the corner of her eye.
Artemis let out a whine. Oh great Colin has made his appearance and he has that mischief making smirk of his directed at her.

I'll look after you (but I won't stop complaining about it)
requested by anon: Hi I love your Bridgerton sister fics! They got me to finally watch the show. Can I request an Anthony x Bridgerton!reader fic where it’s “4 times Anthony protects the reader and 1 time she protects him”?
requested by anon: Okay but, a twist to the story and instead of the typicall bridgerton!sister being stung by the bee, what if it’s Anthony, and everyone worries about him because of what happened to their father, and it’s specially the youngest bridgerton!sister who has a reaction like him in the show out of fear of losing her brother/father figure?
requested by anon: anthony x bridgerton sis where reader is around 15 and she has a really big fight with colin or eloise and she goes on a walk to calm herself down, falls down a hill and anthony finds her after looking for her for a while? but like fluffy pls
summary: four times Anthony protected his sister and the one time she protected him (albeit it was from the ton)
Tumblr media
After Edmund Bridgerton, the 8th Viscount Bridgerton, died, his son, Anthony, made a promise. He sat at his father's death bed, staring down at the cold corpse that had once been his beloved father, and promised to look after his siblings - all eight of them - and to try, in any way possible, to guide them as an elder brother and as a father figure.
Whilst his siblings did not make this promise an easy one to keep Anthony kept trying. But right now, at this exact moment in time, Anthony wanted to throttle his sisters.
He vaguely wondered if anyone would find their bodies at the bottom of the lake, only to be yanked out of the thought by a pillow smacking him in the chest, the intended target oblivious as she glared at her twin.
"What is so wrong with wanting marriage?" Y/N yelled, throwing her hands up at her sister.
"It shackles you for life!" Eloise yelled back. "It silences you and your dreams."
"Oh, not this conversation again," Y/N groaned. "El, not everyone wants the same things as you. Is it so wrong for me to want to be married and happy? There are plenty of things you can still do when married."
"Not if you marry some old man who treats his women like objects!"
"Nope, absolutely not," Y/N said, getting up from the sofa, throwing the cushion she'd been hugging at Eloise, "I am not having this conversation again. Marry, do not marry, I do not care. But I am not going to sit here and listen to you call me an unintelligent woman simply because I dream of being married one day."
The door to the drawing room slammed shut. Eloise huffed, sitting back down on the sofa, crossing her arms.
Anthony pulled back a page of his newspaper, eyeing Eloise. "Is it so wrong for your sister to want marriage?"
"She does not understand what it can do to a woman, brother," Eloise replied. "The consequences, the silencing..."
"It can be a positive thing, El -"
"I have heard far too many horror stories of women being treated like cattle to view it as a positive thing. We all saw what nearly happened to Daphne when she came out."
"That was entirely my own doing -"
"This is what I mean!" Eloise exclaimed, sitting forward. "We do not get to choose our husbands. Our husbands choose us or our fathers and brothers choose them for us. Not once does a woman get a say in who she marries."
Anthony exhaled through his nose, seeing that he clearly wasn't going to get anywhere with Eloise. He folded his newspaper shut, setting it down on the coffee table beside him.
"I'm going to go check on Y/N," he muttered, standing up from the sofa.
Whilst Anthony knew Y/N and Eloise were devoted to one another, he also knew that when they argued, it got mean, very quickly. The marriage argument had been one they'd had many times before and it never ended well.
Eloise could never quite seem to understand why any woman would want to willingly be married. Y/N never quite understood why Eloise was so opposed to even the idea of marriage. What was so wrong with wanting a future for herself where she was ostracized to the edge of society?
It took him fifteen minutes and five servants to work out where Y/N had gone. As much as he adored Aubery Hall, he did curse its extensive grounds, especially when his siblings ran off.
Another ten minutes later and Anthony was finally down in the woods of the grounds, walking through patches of bluebells and snowdrops, peering behind trees and bushes.
He looked behind a fairly large oak tree and stopped, casting his eyes down. Y/N looked back up at him, her face blotchy from her tears.
She didn't say anything, turning her head away and looking straight ahead at where the river cut through their lands.
Anthony crossed his arms, leaning against the tree. "This is an argument you have had before. We all know how it goes."
"I know. Does not stop it from upsetting me or being infuriating."
"It reminds me of the argument I so often have with Colin about travelling," Anthony replied. "If he had it his way, he would be gallivanting around every corner of this world, spending as much money as he likes. I am the one who has to bring him back down and tell him that whilst we have money, we do not have enough money for that."
Y/N gave him a small smile. "It is utterly exhausting. I have tried to explain to her multiple times that marriage can be a good thing. If you find the right person."
"I can attest to that."
"Five words I never thought you would say, brother," Y/N said, looking up at him.
"This argument is not worth your tears, Y/N."
"Oh, I am aware, I was not crying about that." She looked a little sheepishly at Anthony's raised eyebrow. "I was so angry I did not look where I was going and I twisted my ankle, falling down a rabbit burrow."
Anthony stared at her for a moment. Then, he burst out laughing, leaning back, putting a hand on his chest.
"Yes, yes, laugh away," Y/N muttered, rolling her eyes.
"Are you alright?"
"No! I fell down a rabbit burrow!"
Anthony snorted. Y/N reached over and pushed her brother's leg, knocking him off balance. He stumbled to the side, catching himself.
"Are you going to just stand there and laugh or will you help me up and back to the house?"
"Alright, come on then."
Anthony held his hands out to Y/N and she placed her hands in his, letting him help her up to her feet, hopping awkwardly. She put her foot down and winced, pain shooting up from her ankle.
Without uttering a word, Anthony turned around. Y/N, snorted but climbed onto his back, using her good foot to propel herself up.
"I feel like I'm ten again," Y/N said as Anthony gripped her legs.
"I don't," he grunted. "When did you get so heavy?"
"Don't be rude. Come along then," she said, nudging him with her foot.
Anthony rolled his eyes. "If I fall down a rabbit burrow, it'll be your fault."
Tumblr media
"Bloody hell."
Daphne whacked her sister with her blue mallet. "Language."
Y/N shot her a withering look. "It's just family, we are quite safe." She tilted her head up, looking at the tree. "How on earth are we to get that out?"
It was a well-known fact that Y/N Bridgerton did not know what gently meant. Especially when it came to pall mall. One well-aimed hit later, her purple ball was stuck up in the tree, nestled amongst the branches.
"We'll have to climb."
"No, Y/N, do not -"
Daphne trailed off as Y/N dropped her mallet and put her booted foot on a stump next to the tree. She pushed herself up, pulling her dress up over her knee and climbing up onto the lowest branch.
She could see the purple ball wedged between the fork of two branches. If she climbed up another branch and crawled forward, she could definitely grab it.
The panting of breaths came from below as Colin, Benedict and Anthony rushed up to Daphne, all looking up at the tree.
"Is she climbing the tree?!" Colin exclaimed, both delighted and slightly concerned.
"Of course she is!" Anthony snapped. "Y/N, get down at once!"
"Let one of the boys get it, Y/N," Daphne added.
"I'm up here now!" Y/N yelled down, climbing onto the second branch. "I might as well get it!"
Y/N crawled forward again, the leaves shaking at the sudden movement.
"Someone should get her down," Benedict muttered, following Y/N's movements. "Knowing our dear sister, she will fall down. She's not exactly gentle."
"Y/N!" Anthony yelled, moving to the bottom of the tree trunk. "Mother will kill me if you fall!"
"I've almost got it!"
Y/N leant forward, her fingers brushing against the purple ball. Instead of the ball falling into her grip, she lost her balance entirely and teetered forward and off the branch.
Her arms flailed as she struggled to find anything to grip on, her sibling's yells of panic from below silencing her own yelp of surprise.
Y/N was falling until she wasn't. Arms wrapped around her just before she hit the ground, her body smacking into Anthony's. The force knocked them both to the floor, Anthony taking down Benedict at the same time.
The three siblings hit the ground, hard. Anthony's head smacked against Benedict's chest as Y/N knocked her own head into her older brother's chin.
"Oh, my go - are you three ok?" Daphne exclaimed, crouching down beside Y/N and helping her sit up, a concerned hand on her back.
Y/N rolled off her elder brother and to the side, coughing slightly, winded from her collision with her brother.
"Anthony get off me," Benedict grunted, pushing his brother off him.
Anthony stumbled to his feet, swaying just a bit. "I'm fine," he muttered, dusting his jacket down. "Just another victim of Y/N Bridgerton."
Something landed on top of Anthony's head with a fairly loud thud. It rolled off him and bounced onto the floor, rolling down to Y/N's feet.
"Oh!" She said, bending down and picking it up. "I did get my ball after all!."
Tumblr media
Y/N looked behind her frantically, desperately trying to find an escape as Cressida Cowper walked towards her, her friends walking alongside her.
She was not having a good day and she did not need Cressida Cowper to make it any worse.
"Y/N!"
Bloody hell. "Cressida," Y/N said, curtseying politely.
"You look beautiful. As ever," Cressida added snidely. "Anyone asked you for a dance yet?"
Y/N gritted her teeth. "No, not yet."
"Oh, shame. Mr Patrick, Sir Carter and Mr Norris have all written their names in my dance card."
"Well, I hope you enjoy all your dances."
"Hmm, I suppose I will."
Cressida brushed past Y/N, tipping her glass of lemonade onto her dress and down her chest. Y/N gasped, the cold liquid startling her. Cressida sniggered and sauntered off to another corner of the ballroom.
Y/N inhaled shakily, closing her eyes. She turned her back to the rest of the room, feeling her throat closing as the tears threatened to fall all over again.
A jacket sleeve brushed against her arm and Y/N knew instantly it was Anthony. He shielded her from the rest of the room as he unbuttoned his jacket and put it around her shoulders, handing her his handkerchief.
"Come on," he said quietly, taking her hand and pulling her along with him.
Anthony walked out into the corridor outside the ballroom and then into another empty room. He shut the door behind them and Y/N sat down heavily on the sofas, hanging her head low.
"I have half a mind to go yell at Miss Cowper," Anthony muttered, walking over to her.
"Not that it would solve anything," Y/N replied, straightening up. She dabbed under her eyes with her fingers, shaking her head. "Thank you."
"Whatever for?"
"Getting me out of there before I made a scene."
Anthony smiled softly. "If anyone made a scene, it was Cressida." He sat down next to her on the sofa. "We do not have to go back. We can leave."
Y/N shook her head, pulling Anthony's jacket tighter around her shoulders. "No. I do not want her to win. Give me five minutes and I'll be fine."
"Very well, then."
Y/N dropped her head to Anthony's shoulder, closing her eyes momentarily. "Thank you, brother."
Anthony kissed her forehead, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, squeezing tightly. "Anytime."
Tumblr media
The rain lashed against the windows. A loud boom of thunder sounded from directly overhead and Y/N flinched, digging her nails into the leather of the chair she was sat in.
She didn't know what it was about storms that frightened her so much - whether it was the loud noises, the bright flashes of lighting, the sound of trees being felled - but this was the worst one they had had in years.
Anthony glanced up at his sister, pausing his writing. "Alright?"
Y/N nodded tightly, clutching her book in one hand. "Fine."
Another boom of thunder and she closed her eyes, jumping in her seat. Anthony set his pen down and pushed his chair back, walking over to his sister. He snatched up her book, putting his thumb on the page she was on, and closing it to look at the cover.
Pride and Prejudice was written on the front, each letter covered in gold foil. "Would you like me to read to you?"
"If it means distracting me from this god-awful storm, yes."
Anthony smiled, sitting down in the chair opposite his sister. He opened the book again and found the start of the new chapter. "Colonel Fitzwilliam's were very much admired at the Parsonage, and the ladies all felt that he must add considerably to the pleasure of their engagements at Rosings."
Y/N leant back in her chair, closing her eyes. Anthony's voice was calm and didn't flinch once, even when lighting struck almost outside his study window. His mere presence had calmed her down from the panic building inside her.
As Anthony reached the end of the chapter, he glanced over at his sister. He smiled softly upon seeing that she was fast asleep, her head drooping to one side. He concluded the chapter, gently tucking a piece of paper in between the pages and closing the book.
It had been many years since he'd last carried anyone other than Hyacinth and Gregory to bed. Even then, they were beginning to get a bit too big and a bit too old.
Anthony gently lifted Y/N up into his arms and crept through the corridors of Bridgerton House. He laid her down on her bed and pulled back the blankets and duvet, placing them on top of her, smoothing the edge down.
"Night, Y/N," he whispered, standing in the doorway, a soft smile on his face.
Tumblr media
Anthony did not regret marrying Kate Bridgerton neé Sharma one bit.
He just regretted his mother's penchant for big ball's and extravagant celebrations. Anthony had hardly had time to take in his new wife and admire her as viscountess - it felt as if the entire ton had been invited to the ball.
Almost an hour later, Anthony finally found his wife again, walking up to her and taking her hand in his, squeezing it tightly.
"I missed you," he murmured, leaning into her neck and sniffing.
Kate shoved him gently. "Anthony, behave."
"Apologies."
"Your mother seems very determined to introduce me to every member of the ton tonight."
"Again, apologies."
Kate chuckled, smiling widely. "I forgive you, my lord."
The string quartet began readying themselves for another dance, couples moving into position on the floor with practised ease. Anthony held his hand out to his wife, smiling.
"Care for a dance, Viscountess Bridgerton?"
"I would adore one, Viscount Bridgerton."
They danced three times in a row. Which was preposterous for any courting couple but unheard of for a married couple. But Anthony and Kate were so in love with one another, that no one seemed to really mind.
In fact, both were so enamoured with one another, that they did not seem to realise the line of people wanting to talk to them slowly dwindling down to nothing.
"Is it me," Kate said quietly, "or has no one been over to talk at us for a while?"
Anthony sipped on his lemonade and looked around, raising his eyebrows. "No, I do believe you are correct in that statement."
It was suspicious, Anthony thought, that they had been left alone for as long as they had. His eyes scanned the ballroom - he spotted Daphne and Simon, both pretending to look interested in a conversation with the Cowpers, and suddenly realised.
"I do believe my siblings are deflecting anyone that comes our way," Anthony murmured to his wife.
"Whatever do you mean?"
He pointed over to Daphne and Simon. Then he guided Kate's eyes to the left, where Colin and Eloise were listening to Lady Trowbridge.
"Oh," Kate said, understanding. She looked around the room, her eyes latching on to one Bridgerton in particular.
Y/N stood with Mr Dorset, pretending to be engrossed in Lord Lumley's conversation. She was surrounded by numerous other gentlemen, all waiting for her attention.
"Oh, Lord Bridgerton!" Portia Featherington crowed.
"I knew it couldn't last," Anthony muttered, turning his back.
"Lady Featherington!" Y/N exclaimed, pulling Mr Dorset with her as they walked over to the lady. "I have been meaning to ask you all night about your stunning dress."
"Oh, really? It's new in from Paris -"
And just like that, Portia Featherington forget entirely about the newlywed couple she'd been marching towards.
Kate caught Y/N's eye as she walked back to the wall. She mouthed a thank you to the younger girl, smiling when Y/N winked back at her, blowing her sister-in-law a kiss.
"I do believe, we have Y/N to thank for a bit of peace," Kate said, leaning into her husband. "She seems to have gathered an army to distract the ton."
Anthony looked over at her, a fond smile taking over his face. "Of course she did," he muttered. "Well, I suppose, annoyingly, I'm in her debt now."
"Is that such a bad thing?" Kate asked, letting Anthony wrap his arms around her waist, resting his head on her shoulder.
"No," He replied, sniffing Kate's scent and pressing a kiss to her bare skin, "no, it is not."

If requests are still open for Jamie requests, would you write one where the Richmond boys meddle/overreact when they overhear that you and Jaime got into a (minor) argument that morning?
(always down for jamie or roy requests!)
Jamie was clearly peeved when he came into the work. He had a distinct frown on his face and he added aggression to everything he did ie pulling his clothes on very roughly, kicking the ball extra hard.
Once practice was over, he stomps back into the locker, the rest of the team cautiously following him.
Sam whispers to the guys, "Someone should ask him what's wrong."
"Good idea, bruv," Isaac said and then he pushes Sam in Jamie's direction.
Jamie's back was to Sam and Sam looks back at the team, mouthing "What do I do?"
The guys gesture for him to go to Jamie and ask him. Sam gives a pained expression but after more gesturing and mouthing to get on it, Sam turns to Jamie and clears his throat.
"Um, Jamie?"
"Yeah?" Jamie doesn't even turn around.
"We were wondering if you're okay? You seem...tense."
Jamie sighs and turns to plop himself onto the bench, "Me and me girl got into an argument."
Everyone's eyes widen. You two? In an argument? That was absolutely abnormal because you and Jamie get along so well!
The team proceeds to huddle around Jamie. Isaac, being the captain, steps forward and places a reassuring hand on Jamie's shoulder, "We're here for you, mate. What happened?"
The guys either sit or stand around Jamie with curious gazes. Jamie looks around to see all eyes on him. He licks his lips, clears his throat, and rubs his sweaty palms on his shorts, "Uh, well, this morning, I do my usual trainings with Roy, right? Well every time I come back, I kiss Y/N right when she's waking up. But she said she doesn't like it when I do that."
"Why? I think that's very romantic," Colin says.
"That's what I thought! But she says she doesn't like it 'cause she got mornin' breath and it's gross."
"Does she have morning breath?" Dani asks.
He shrugs, "Yeah, but I don't care! When you love someone, you accept everything about them, right? So I accept her and her mornin' breath!"
"She's probably just really insecure about it and afraid that it would gross you out to the point you won't love her anymore. Which is fucking stupid 'cause you clearly love her a lot." the sea of men part as Roy speaks up. Jamie's brows shoot up in surprise. Roy continues on, "You should probably reassure her that it doesn't bother you at all and that you still love her. Morning breath and all."
Jamie slowly nods his head and processes what Roy said, "Yeah. Yeah you're right. I should probably apologize for calling her stupid too."
"YOU DID WHAT?!" the guys shout in disbelief and start getting upset with Jamie. Everyone speaking over each other, scolding the striker for his oblivious mistake.

Fic: Never You (Penelope x Colin) - Part 4
Fandom: Bridgerton (TV show)
Spoilers: S3 released scenes.
Summary: They may have been friends once but his callous words decimated their relationship. Determined not to have anything to do with him, Penelope is ready to move on. But Colin isn’t giving up, not at all. Friends or not, they are connected for life - and he intends to remind her of that.
Excerpt:
“You would hate me for not wanting to court you. You would be that selfish?”
“Of course you would think that.”
“What else is this if not punishment?”
Masterlist (contains links to previous parts and my other stories)
“Unhand her now, Colin!”
Penelope jumped at the sound of Anthony’s voice, panicked at the thought of being caught. Colin must have felt the same way as he finally loosened his grip on her waist. Immediately she distanced herself from him, a heated blush creeping across her cheeks at the sight of the Viscount and his wife standing a few feet away. While Anthony was busy glaring at Colin, Kate Bridgerton’s eyes studied her with concern.
Although he had never been unkind to her, a part of her had always been intimidated by the eldest Bridgerton sibling. While Benedict was affable and charming, Anthony was the opposite and his stern demeanor tended to make her nervous. So to be caught by him in such a shameful manner – Penelope wanted the earth to swallow her up, she was too embarrassed to speak.
“What is going on here?” Anthony demanded, glaring at Colin. “Did you hurt her? Are you alright, Penelope?”
“Stay out of this, brother!”
“I’m fine.”
She and Colin replied in unison.
Penelope cast Colin a quick glance, warning him silently to go along with the lie. “My dress had a tear in it and Colin was helping me.”
Neither Anthony nor Kate looked like they believed her. Fortunately, they did not push back.
“You both know better than to be alone out here without a chaperone,” Anthony chastised. “If anyone were to see the two of you-”
“Fortunately, it was only us,” Kate interjected, approaching Penelope with an assuring smile. “Anthony, why don’t you and Colin go back in and fetch us some champagne? After I help Penelope with her dress, we can meet you inside.”
“Pen and I still have much to discuss,” Colin said in a firm tone.
She threw an irritated glance at Colin. While he was within his rights to argue with his family, she certainly didn’t have the same privilege – and it brought further attention to how oblivious he was when it came to her.
There was a time when she used to believe all of his gestures of intimacy were indicative of his love, but since the night she overheard him it became clear that had never been the case. His words – “you do not count, you’re Pen” – was how he truly felt. She wasn’t someone he viewed romantically, rather he didn’t view her as a proper lady at all.  It’s why he never worried about others misconstruing their relationship, why he never hesitated to spend time with her unchaperoned, why he kissed her tonight with such recklessness when he would never dare to do so with other young ladies of the ton. And even though he wasn’t purposely being hurtful, it still angered her to recognize how careless he was with her. In the past she was too much in love with Colin to worry about her own reputation but now she couldn’t afford a scandal. Not when she was so close to gaining freedom and living the life she wanted. “There’s nothing further to say.”
“In that case, brother, you and I shall head inside,” Anthony ordered sternly. “And Kate and Penelope may join us when they’re ready.”
Colin turned to her, peering at her, demanding silently that she meet his gaze. “I will call on you tomorrow,” he stated angrily when she refused to look at him.
“I have a prior engagement,” was her immediate reply.
“With whom?”
“Now!” Anthony barked.
Finally Colin tore his eyes from her and stormed away. He didn’t wait for Anthony, instead marching past his brother.
“I apologize for his behaviour.” Anthony shook his head. “If my brother has said or done anything to harm you-”
“He hasn’t,” she replied quickly. “As I said, he was simply assisting me. But you are right, we should not have been out here without a chaperone.”
“Rest assured it won’t happen again.”
Then his attention darted to his wife, and it was as if the Anthony she had known since childhood was instantly changed. In his place was a soft and tender man, eyes flooded with love as his gaze swept over the Viscountess. They were simply standing there yet Penelope felt like she was intruding on a private moment between the couple, the affection between them so potent. And seeing them so much in love filled her heart with joy, but there was also an aching sadness that pricked at her. Because she knew Colin would never look at her that way or love her as fiercely as his brother did Kate.
“Are you alright?” Kate asked.
Realizing her face must have given her away, Penelope quickly composed herself. “I’m fine. Thank you for your concern, Viscountess.”
“I shall see you inside,” Anthony said softly before taking his leave.
“I’m fine, truly. I just need a few minutes of fresh air and I will go back in,” Pen said in a rush, feeling nervous around the other woman.
“I require some fresh air myself. I hope you don’t mind if I keep you company?” Kate smiled.
“Of course not, Lady Kate. It would be a pleasure.”
“Kate. Please. And I hope you don’t mind if I call you Penelope?”
“I would like that.”
“Perhaps I can fashion something out of my shawl for you,” Kate said, removing the fabric around her shoulders and draping it over Penelope’s. After a few seconds of trifling with the material, she stepped back to examine her handiwork. “Yes, that looks quite pretty. Don’t you think?”
Penelope glanced down at herself. Not only did the fabric hide her torn sleeve, but also the marks on her breasts. Bite marks left by Colin when he’d laved her skin with his tongue and teeth, same marks that must have been visible to Anthony earlier. Shame flooded over Penelope, she wanted to die.
“Shall we take a stroll around the maze before we go inside?” Kate suggested.
Penelope nodded, too embarrassed to speak.
Looping her arm through Penelope’s, Kate started walking alongside her. “I admit I don’t know Colin very well. He started his travels soon after the wedding and we didn’t have much time to get to know one another. However, I’ve always found him to be witty and good-natured.”
Penelope remained silent.
“Which is why the last few days have been such a surprise. He has been unusually agitated and others have noticed as well.”
“Have they?” Penelope muttered. “He’s probably having difficulties settling back into his old life after his recent adventures.”
“Yes, Benedict thought so too.”
“They are quite close as brothers.”
“True, but I suspect it has more to do with matters of the heart.” Kate paused in her tracks. “Perhaps you’re the reason?”
Penelope shook her head. “I don’t think so.”
“He seemed quite upset just now.”
“Not because of me, I’m sure. I’m incapable of eliciting strong emotions in Colin.”
Kate gave her a curious glance. “Why do you say so?”
Penelope shrugged her shoulders. “Because Colin and I are friends. That’s all.”
“Your rendezvous with him tonight would suggest otherwise, Penelope.”
“You would think so, but it doesn’t.” She sent Kate a bitter smile. “I’m Pen. His friend. And that means he doesn’t view me in the same light as he does other ladies. Normal rules of society don’t apply to me.”
“That can’t be true.”
She leveled the older woman with a pained gaze. “Colin would never exchange private letters with any of the young ladies of the ton, he’d be too worried about jeopardizing their reputation. And he certainly wouldn’t cause a scandal by spending time with them unchaperoned. Yet here I am, recipient of both.”
Kate looked taken aback by her words. “That doesn’t sound like the actions of a friend.”
“I assure you Colin isn’t a duplicitous person, he genuinely doesn’t mean to cause harm. However, he’s oblivious when it comes to me. I might as well be invisible to him.”
“I see male idiocy isn’t reserved for Anthony alone,” Kate sighed, resuming their walk again. “In my experience tihe Bridgerton men can be quite… foolish when it comes to romance.” She squeezed Penelope’s arm. “But once they get over their stubbornness, they are fierce with their love.”
“I will have to take your word for it.”
“Have you talked to Colin about how you feel? Perhaps if you-”
“Lady Kate, I don’t mean to be rude.” Penelope smiled stiffly at the Viscountess. “But there’s no point in discussing this any further. How I feel about Colin doesn’t matter.”
“You care deeply for him. I can see that.”
Penelope paused. The only person she’d ever confessed her feelings about Colin was to Arthur Debling and even that took a while.
“You shouldn’t deny your feelings, Penelope.”
“I’m not denying them. I know how I feel, and I recognize my feelings will probably never go away. But that doesn’t mean I have to wallow in heartache.” She stared out at the garden, ruminating on the measures she’d taken to secure the life she wanted. “I used to think I would only be happy if I married Colin, but I’ve come to realize that is no longer true. There are other forms of happiness, little things that can bring a lot of joy if one is open to it.” She graced Kate with a shy smile. “I intend to move on and pursue some of my other dreams. Maybe even have small adventures along the way.”
“Is that what you would like?”
Penelope bit down on her lip. A part of her felt anxious about sharing her secret desires but the kindness in Kate’s eyes made her think that not only would the older woman not mock her but she might actually understand. “Very much so.”
Kate returned her smile. “In that case, I hope you get everything your heart desires.”
“Thank you.”
“But I feel I must warn you.” Concern shone brightly in Kate’s dark eyes. “The look I saw on Colin tonight, it’s an expression I’m familiar with having seen it on my husband’s face many times. I don’t think my brother-in-law will go quietly into the night. He may make it difficult for you to move on.”
“That’s not who Colin is.” She reached out to touch her neck, only to remember that there was now a scarf covering the area. Her skin still burned with the memory of his mouth voraciously roving over her, hot and urgent. She dropped her hand immediately. “As soon as he realizes things have changed between us, he will move on. And there will not be any shortage of ladies vying for his attention. It’s only a matter of time before I become a distant memory to him.”
“You underestimate your own worth,” Kate replied, a hint of sternness in her voice.
Pen shrugged to herself. “I only speak the truth.”
Kate didn’t respond, instead squeezing her arm. They made their way back inside, both women deep in thought.
***
Later that night Penelope was waiting for her carriage outside while listening to the nearby chatter of a group of gentlemen who were gossiping idly. Often her biggest source of news were men of the ton themselves. While there was no doubt women liked to gossip, they were far more discreet than the opposite sex, something Lady Whistledown benefitted from. She was busy cataloguing the topics they were discussing when she suddenly found herself with company. Her breath halted in her throat when Colin appeared beside her.
“You’re avoiding me,” he said quietly, sounding both hurt and angry.
She kept her voice deliberately steady. “It’s late, Colin. I wish to go home.”
“We need to discuss what happened tonight.”
Her stomach clenched at the thought. “I’d rather not.”
The intensity within him clamored for her full attention even as his entitled words filled her with rage. There was a respectable amount of space between them but it was as if he was pressed against her like before, heat emanating from him. And the way he was looking at her, eyes burning bright with emotion as they swept over her skin, pausing on the same spot where he left bite marks -  she couldn’t think around him. She desperately needed an escape.
“You owe me the truth, Pen. I demand it. You must tell me who the gentleman is.” He took a step closer. “I have a responsibility to protect you, to keep you safe.” Another step. “Your reputation could have been compromised-”
“You didn’t seem to care about that earlier when you followed me into the garden,” she fired back at him. “What if someone had caught us, Colin? Do you even know what that would’ve done to my reputation?”
He stiffened. “We would have been forced to marry.”
She noted the immediate panic that flitted across his face, his voice drowning in misery at the thought of marrying her.  It was clear the idea of a romantic bond between them horrified him, and even though she’d come to accept that fact already it still felt like someone had ripped her heart out and stomped all over it. But she would die before letting him see how much his rejection hurt. Straightening her back, she gave him a cold glance. “You don’t need to worry. I would never force you into that.” She turned to look at the carriage that had come to a stop in front of her. “I think it’s best if we keep our distance going forward. Good night, Colin.”
He offered his hand to help her into the carriage but she ignored it. However, he didn’t step aside. “This conversation is not over. I will call on you tomorrow."
“And I will not be available.”
Before he could say anything further, she slammed the carriage door in his face.
To be continued...
A/N - Thank you for reading. If you care to share your thoughts, I would be grateful :)

Hi!! I love your writing so much!!
When I saw number 5 on your Drabbles list all I could think of was the team trying to figure out what’s going on with reader and Jamie and coming to the most wild conclusions like they did with Zava and Trent LMAO
AHH! This means so so much to me! Thank you!
I love this prompt so I hope you enjoy!
5. “Idiots. They are all idiots.”
Colin and Isaac peaked around the corner to stare down the hall as (Y/N) walked up the stairs. Surely she was going back and forth between offices, delievering messages and what not for Rebecca.
Since she'd come on the team as Rebecca's personal assistant, everything at Richmond had run smoother. (Y/N) was some kind of assistant extrodinare, memorizing Rebecca's needs in an instant and helping her to focus on the really important things.
She'd also fit right in with the Greyhounds. While her extreme A-Typer personality was intimidating at first but soon they warmed up to her and she softened for them.
But what was really getting the boys in a tizzle recently was her somewhat odd behavior around one certain Greyhound. Jamie Tartt always seemed to be missing right around the time that (Y/N) took her breaks, and during lunch, the both of them would disappear all together.
But the team was not one to back away from a mystery and made it their job to figure out exactly what was going on between the two of them. Right now, Colin and Isaac were on (Y/N) duty.
"What chu lookin' at?"
Jamie's voice from behind them caused Colin to jump, hitting his head on Isaac's chin. The two men cursed and grabbed their respective body parts.
"Fuck! Why'd you sneak up on us like that, bruv?" Isaac groaned, rubbing his chin.
"I didn't do nuthin'!" Jamie defended, walking over to sit in front of his locker. "It was you twos who were being weird."
Colin frowned as he rubbed his forehead, a red mark appearing right in the middle. "We weren't doing anything, were we Isaac?"
"Nope, nothin.'"
Jamie shrugged and whipped out his phone. Isaac looked down at Colin and nudged his head in Jamie's direction.
"So, Jamie!" Colin opened, standing up.
"Colin, I've told ya a million times, you don't need to keep askin me to use my lynx, just take it," Jamie dismissed, messing around with a filter on instagram.
"No, that's not- wait really?"
"Obviously."
Colin nodded, happy with this information. Isaac grunted, reminding Colin of the ask at hand. "Oh! I was wondering if you wanted to get lunch today. Roy told us about this new Kebab place down the road."
"If it's got anything to do with that old fart, I'm not interested," Jamie responded, standing up to grab his fanny pack.
"Oh, so you have plans then?" Isaac interjected, his gaze burning into an oblivious Jamie.
"Uh, yah? Eat lunch?" Jamie rolled his eyes. "Get away from you, twats for five minutes."
"Where are you goin then?" Colin boxed Jamie in. Isaac on one side of Jamie, Colin on the other. Jamie frowned at him, before nudging him out of the way.
"None of your fucking business, is it boyo?"
With that, Jamie was off down the hallway, walking past the same stairs the (Y/N) had climbed just a few minutes prior. Isaac and Colin looked at each other for a second before racing off down the hallway. They reached the boot room where seemingly the rest of the team was waiting.
When they entered the room, they were bombarded with questions flying at them.
"What did you learn?"
"Are they getting lunch together?"
"What lynx does Jamie have now?"
Isaac let out a bark to silence the crowd.
"Jamie didn't take the Kebab bait!" Isaac grunted, crossing his arms. "But he also wouldn't tell us where he was going."
"AH! So (Y/N)/Jamie lives," Dani exclaimed, looking around in exctiement.
He was met with shouts of disapproval and outrage.
"There is NO way that (Y/N) and Jamie are together," Bumbercatch argued. "(Y/N) is just too serious for him."
"Exactly, that's why it's clear they are starting a side hustle!" Jan Maas stated, raising his hand. "We should look to support them in their endeavors."
Again, there was cries of outrage as the boys all shouted their theories of what was going on with the two.
"Jamie is looking for a surrogate!"
"(Y/N) is his long lost sister!"
"She was actually hired to be Jamie's nanny to make sure he doesn't get into anymore trouble."
The theories went on, each more outrageous than the last. Unbeknownst to them, unoticed in the corner was Will. He'd been in there the whole time. He pulled out his phone and sent a message.
...
(Y/N)'s phone lit up in the cupholder between her and Jamie. Jamie was driving down the road, his sunglasses blocking his eyes. He had a hand on the wheel and the other was rubbing up and down her thigh gently.
(Y/N) reached over and grabbed her phone, letting out a giggle as she read his message.
"'the boys are properly distracted, have a good lunch' smiley face'" She read out, leaning over to show Jamie the photo of the boys arguing.
Jamie chuckled, glancing down at the phone. "Idiots, they're all idiots."
(Y/N) planted a kiss on Jamie's cheek before leaning back in her seat. "Yeah, but so are you."
Jamie smiled, content at the though of being (Y/N)'s idiot.
Hope you enjoyed!

I think Colin’s most oblivious ‘I-don’t-realize-I’m-in-love-or-potentially-in-love-with-my-best-friend’ moment is when he’s on his travels and writing to Penelope. He essentially gives up writing to his family because they never respond (very few people do) but even though Penelope doesn’t always respond, he still continues to write to her nonetheless… continuously… for months on end…. with little to no response… but he keeps doing it because Penelope is his friend and of course she’d write to him eventually why would he ever stop writing to her??? colin sweetie let’s open our eyes and critically think about this for more than 30 seconds I’m begging you

‪Not me waiting for the trailer but it was just them talking so closely on the live just for me to have missed it 16m ago thankfully I got to watch it now back to work! gotta freak out later but I can’t hold it inn any longer also its fcvk Eloise always‬ trash friend from day1
Show Eloise 4th worst character in whole show and 3rd worst bridgerton sibling book Eloise would never!
my heart is so full with the Polin series I love enemies to lovers that’s always been my fav trope since delena klamille spuffy ect but ever since jjpope polin they have made me realize nothing beats friends to lovers trope it will always be the superior trope in the end bc it’s build on mutual respect admiration pinning over time its just top tier trope you can’t beat a love like that it’s BASED!
Why Colin doing the JJ looking at pope lips 👄 I knew I always had the best ships when they stare at their love lips jjpope polin you will always be the best netflix ship!
‪you really canf beat that! Netflix said our best ships will always have a scene like this! The only funny part is that Pope is the one that’s oblivious like Colin but JJ is Pen whos loved pinned for Colin/Pope since they were kids oh polin jjpope never beating the best Netflix ship‬

Some Polin musings
I don't think people understand how truly excited I am for Penelope to drop her facade - because let's be honest here, squeaky-high-pitched-and-constantly-nervous-around-Colin isn't PENELOPE. It's so clear in Nic's acting too the way her voice and demeanour change in scenes with Colin.
The scene about LW and Gen made it extremely obvious that Pen is way more mature than we have seen so far. We get little glimpses of that around Eloise too when they are having deeper conversations.
Tumblr media
Pen has what I think can be described as a crush on Colin and maybe a little bit more. I don't think it's love just yet for her either. As much as I love to joke about Colin being oblivious to his own feelings he is definitely not in love with Pen yet - although there is a deep sense of caring and understanding between them.
I think in Colin's head too Penelope is just the girl he grew up with. The outfits she's been put in (I cannot with the bows and sequins) haven't helped with challenging the perspective either. (But we somehow still got 'heart eyes and took my breath away' Colin.. Luke is going to be the death of me)
Tumblr media
The biggest thing that the last scene from 2x08 will do is CHANGE the way Pen interacts with Colin. (I stand by my theory that she will give him a cold shoulder in a 'there needs to be distance between us' way and not in a 'how dare you not return my feelings' way.. she will be ticked off which she has every right to be but I don't see Pen ever hurting Colin's feelings or being rude)
This dynamic change reminds me so much of when someone you have a crush on says something that changes the way you look at them, it feels like you have been hit with a bucket of cold water and the feelings almost go away (ALMOST).
I can't wait to see Penelope be herself completely in her interactions with Colin without worrying about what he's thinking of her or just being hyperaware of all her words.
The closest we came to this was of course the purpose scene. It was one of the highlights of s2 for me because Colin is totally enraptured by what Penelope is saying (don't get me started on the blatant staring and heart eyes). Pen is being her unfiltered self and its amazing😭🤌🏼 Their chemistry is off the charts with just LOOKS?!
Tumblr media
I just really hope we get both flirty banter (lots of innuendos, smirks and gossiping please!) AND deep conversations (about Colin's purpose and writing and Pen's reasons for wanting to get married and starting LW) between them because that's honestly the best part about the friends-to-lovers trope - actually getting to see their friendship evolve into love!

Today I keep wondering if this season one Colin line was foreshadowing for season three.
Imagine Penelope’s chosen a beautiful and flattering dress for the first ball of the season because she finally spoke up and convinced her mother to let her control her own wardrobe, and bitchy bully Cressida finds a way to tear the dress and humiliate Penelope who’s rescued by Colin (despite the fact that she’d been avoiding him all night).
Tumblr media
Colin sees what Cressida’s done and how upset Penelope is and insists on escorting her home since she’s not quite herself. Her confidence has clearly been crushed and she’s convinced she will end up a spinster after word spreads about her incident.
Colin is desperate to lift Penelope’s spirits the way she did for him when he was at his lowest last season but she won’t listen to him, insisting he’s only pretending to be her friend out of pity. She tells him she knows he’s ashamed of their friendship because she heard the way he spoke about her when she wasn’t around at Featherington Ball.
Colin doesn’t know what to say, he’s horrified that he’d been so careless with his comments, especially because his dearest friend thinks he is ashamed of her. He insists he was only trying to silence those men because they knew he’d sworn off women since Marina and were teasing him because clearly he hadn’t sworn off Penelope that season since they’d been seen together at the races, multiple events and parties and also danced together.
Penelope is apprehensive but after the way Colin swooped in to help her escape the Cressida incident with as few members of the ton noticing her damaged dress as possible (and the fact that she still adores him despite her best efforts to forget her unrequited love), she forgives him but is still very worried that she’s bound for spinsterhood because she’s only ever been criticized by her mother and sisters for her many flaws and she had hoped that night could be a fresh start for her, that she might be able to change the way society sees her, so a nice man among the ton would think her a desirable wife but now she’d probably die alone, never having even been kissed.
When Colin insists hope is not lost, not realizing that Penelope is in a full negativity spiral and she snaps back at him with a thoughtlessly blurted out, “Do you intend to kiss me, Mr. Bridgerton? Oh wait, of course not. You would never dream of kissing me, not even in another man’s wildest fantasy, you would rather die.”
In that moment, standing before him in that shimmering gown with her hair down in the moonlight, her skin glowed and her blue eyes twinkled and she was so beautiful Colin couldn’t help himself. His eyes locked on Penelope’s full, kissable lips and without thinking he leaned in and took her in his arms, shocked by the immediate and intense passion between them when she kissed him back.
Tumblr media
In an instant, they pulled apart, Colin stunned that he’d just taken such a liberty with Penelope, immediately proposes and Penelope, equally shocked by what just happened, dismissively, thanks him for seeing her home safely, tells him they will never speak of what happened and she goes inside leaving Colin wondering why the girl who always looked at him like he hung the moon, and who clearly wanted a husband wouldn’t want to marry him.
Penelope is literally up all night thinking of that kiss before she knows it the sun has risen and she’s never even dressed for bed.
Tumblr media
Colin spent the rest of that night grappling with why he was so moved by one kiss and so bothered by Penelope refusing him. He finds himself wanting her to want him because the kiss they shared was soul stirring and he couldn’t stop thinking about kissing her again.
When they run into each other browsing merchant’s carts, neither of them speak of the kiss but it’s clear something has changed between them. Penelope is still determined to marry this season. Colin is eager to do anything he can to secure Penelope’s happiness, seemingly oblivious to the way he’s started following her around like a lovesick puppy, and every time their eyes meet, the unspoken secret of the one perfect kiss they shared is all either of them is thinking of.

Okay so I finished watching bridgerton and I don’t really get why some people hate Colin, especially so aggressively. He just seems like a good, kind of lost, oblivious boy trying his best. His comment about Penelope was a shitty thing to do but it didn’t make me hate him or anything like that. I feel like he’s proven himself to be a good man enough throughout show that I trust him to, at the very least, try his best to make up for it. I am excited to see Penelope tear him up about it, but that’s mostly because I love angst, not because of any hatred or dislike towards him
