1 and 12 for as many as you'd like! c:
I'll do the characters who have the most interesting answers for question 1!
questions about creating your OCs
1.What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
Secret Hawke: this one is pretty fun. I was watching Race To The Edge (HTTYD animated series) and the quote "You think my brother sacrificed himself? Not with his ego. He thought he could make it." stood out to me for some reason. And apparently DA2 was on my mind?? because then I thought "huh, what if this quote, but it's about a Fade-sacrificed Hawke". And thus the base concept for Secret was born: a Hawke who is, despite all the tragedy, is 100% sure that they Will make it. And then they stay behind in the Fade not as a noble self-sacrifice, but because they genuinely believe they can still game the odds.
Aqun Adaar: I remember having a distinct mental image of an Adaar archer who is all about Precision and Self Control and using logic and discipline to overcome his fear of the innate "savageness" of the Qunari. Over time I started to lean more into other sides of his character, like him being A Nerd and a half-blood and being afraid of anything he can't control, not just The Savageness, but this is where I started.
Watcher Lorenzo: not a Dragon Age guy, but he has a fun origin. I wanted to start a new Pillars of Eternity playthrough, and I knew that I wanted to play a chanter(a bard-adjacent class whose core mechanic is chanting verses during combat to cause Effects). I also really like the godlike race (humanoids touched by the gods which makes them Strange in a variety of ways), and I was choosing between fire godlike(touched by the goddess of fire. fire hair. pretty straightforward) and death godlike(touched by the god of death, are Ominous and have their faces obscured by weird growths), and then. I remembered. that one of the chants you can take is titled Come, Soft Winds Of Death. and something just clicked about the image of a faceless man calling forth death itself with his voice, but softly, unafraid and even welcoming, because in a sense he is one with it. he had almost villain/anti-hero vibes when I first though about him, but over time became more of just a guy who has been Through It and is just doing his best playing the card of "so you were born an omen of death". oooooo you want to play pillars of eternity so badly oooo. you would probably like orlans
12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?
Secret Hawke: she's very much a work in progress (as in. I haven't even started a playthrough for her), so a lot about creating art with her is Difficult, but I'd say the main thing is that she's currently missing a character arc. like, she has a few gimmicks (the optimism and the uncoventional name), but now I need to figure out what's the NarrativeTM
Aqun Adaar: nailing down his general vibe is sometimes difficult. like, he's SeriousTM and a NerdTM and a lot of other things but in a very specific way, and sometimes I realize that instead of writing Aqun I'm writing Generic Serious Guy or Generic Rational Guy and I have to step back and reconsider.
Watcher Lorenzo: I really need to get a grasp on his physique art-wise. His eyes and most of his nose are obscured, so I need to figure out how to draw his features consistently, and I need to give him a definitive body type.

Dani was still in shock to be riding shotgun in Eddie's van on her way out of town with her father's permission and very strict "don't get arrested, high or knocked up" rule.
"So are you going to tell me where we're going? I mean clearly my dad knows and it's also going to be far considering he gave you a full tank and a half worth of oxygen." Dani watched Eddie get comfortable in the driver seat.
"If I told you now, a months long surprise would be ruined. Can't you just sit there and trust that I only ever have brilliant plans?" Eddie smirked. Dani let out a belted laugh flipping Eddie's smirk around.
"Brilliant plans like trying to smoke in an abandon tree fort in the woods? Or the brilliant plan of thinking no one would notice the splif in your ear because your hair was extra fluffy the other day?" Dani reached over and swatted at Eddie's hair.
"You know, I'm starting to regret this big surprise. Maybe I should turn around and take someone else who is more excited to spend some alone time with me." Eddie teased.
"Can I at least guess?" Dani asked hopeful. Eddie threw his hand up encouraging the game if it would make her less anxious. She turned in her seat towards him.
"Okay let's break this down: it's far too cold for camping, we don't have a long weekend so whatever it is must get us back before school on Monday." Eddie laughed at Dani trying deduce his plan.
"Yeah because school would be my first priority in planning." Eddie glanced over at her.
"Gareth obviously knows because he's been asking me about our plans all week and I kept telling him we didn't have any." Dani looked at the back of the van to see what exactly Eddie was bringing. It wasn't much. A cooler, a sleeping bag, a big blanket and two bags of gas station snacks.
"I can smell your brain burning Murillo and I've yet to hear one real guess." Eddie interrupted her thoughts.
"My mind is racing. This is the first time I've been allowed to really go out and do anything. I can't settle on one thing to guess." Dani admitted making Eddie laugh.
"You're so lucky you're cute. I will give you a huge hint." Eddie turned the wheel and pulled off the road so he could root under his seat for something. Dani watched as he pulled a handful of cassette tapes out before finding the one he wants and putting it in the tape player. He put both hands on the steering wheel and looked over at her as Dio started pumping through his rickety speakers. Dani furrowed her eyebrows for a moment trying to figure out how Dio could be a hint.
Then it hit her.
"We're going to see Dio?" Dani asked eyes wide with shock. He nodded with a sly grin slipping across his face as she started bouncing in her seat.
"Shut the hell up! We are not going to see Dio! They aren't playing anywhere close to Hawkins." Dani challenged. Eddie reached across her lap to open the glove box and pull the tickets out for her to look at.
"Oh my god, we're going to Chicago to see Dio?! Eddie!" Dani squeaked grabbing Eddie's face and kissing him hard on the mouth as he laughed through the kiss.
"My first concert is going to be Dio. I can't believe it! How did you-"
"Consider this a celebration gift for getting off the tank. Gareth helped me score the tickets, I talked to your dad a few weeks ago so he would have time to think about it and pretty much sell my soul to get him to trust me with your safety." Eddie explained pulling the van back on the road. Dani stared at him in awe. No one had ever done something like this for her. Dani leaned over the console of the van making Eddie turn his head confused until she put her arms around his neck.
"You must like me a whole lot huh?" Eddie briefly took his eyes off the road to look at Dani who smiled sweetly. He had never seen so much excitement in her eyes.
"Yeah you could say that." He returned her smile and she gave him a much softer kiss this time. Eddie tried to keep his eyes on the road but felt the van swerving. Dani pulled back and returned to her space on the passenger side of the van, kicking her boots off and getting comfortable as she bounced excitedly.
The rest of the drive was spent playing games and singing along to the different tapes Dani picked out. Eddie had never let the passenger pick the music in the van. Never. Dani wasn't just a passenger to him though. She certainly wasn't just a friend either. Eddie had dated plenty of girls but he's never felt like how he feels when he's with Dani.
"You still didn't answer the question." Eddie teased tapping the wheel.
"Because it's insane. You can't ask me which member of Hellfire I would eat first if we were deserted on an island." Dani exclaimed in shock.
"The answer is obvious! Gareth would have to go!" Eddie teased.
"Gareth lives on cheetos and soda. He's hardly nutritious." Dani rationalized making Eddie laugh.
"I hate to break it to you sweetheart but we all eat like garbage bags. None of us are going to taste nutritious." Eddie could feel Dani's gaze shift back to him.
"I don't know, I don't think you would taste so bad." Eddie felt Dani's fit nudge his thigh and he looked at her.
"Oh yeah? Well you're always welcome to test that theory." Eddie could see Dani considering it but she shook her head.
"I'll make a note of it." Moments like these were going to kill Eddie. The more time they spent together, the more he wanted to go out of his way to make her smile. The sound of her squeal when they parked at the venue made his heart speed up and watching her scream and grin like a child when Dio finally stepped out on stage, it made him feel things.
Thing's he had never felt but remembers when he was a kid, sitting with his mom on her deathbed as she talked about how sorry she was that she was going to miss him falling in love. The way she talked about finding someone that made you want to be a better person and how you didn't need someone to complete you but give you a reason to smile. Those were the feelings he got whenever Dani looked at him.
The intro to Fallen Angels started playing and Dani leaned back into Eddie's chest, gripping his neck to bring his ear closer to her mouth.
"I want you to play this one for me. This guitar rift is insane!" Eddie nodded at Dani with a chuckle.
"You think I can shred like Vivian Campbell?!" Dani pulled back and gave him a look like he was crazy.
"Absolutely." Dani yelled without hesitation. Eddie smiled at her sincerity and pulled her in by the back of her neck for a kiss. The way his lips moved against Dani's was hungry with appreciation and lust. Dani pulled on the ends of Eddie's hair trying not to lose her footing when he tightened his hold on her. He chanced sliding his tongue across her bottom lip and was instantly met with her own rolling around his own. Dani pulled away suddenly and held onto Eddie's shirt as she tried to catch her breath.
Eddie tilted his head down trying to catch her eyes and she shifted bashfully biting her lip before wrapping her arms around Eddie and burying her face into his chest. Eddie tightened his arms around her and could feel her laughing against his chest.
"You drive me crazy, you know that?" Eddie kissed the top of her head and she leaned her head back, still holding her arms tightly around his waist and smiled up at him.
"Yeah but you love it." She smiled, the blush having stained her cheeks. There it was. That smile. Eddie shook his head as she turned her body around to watch the rest of Dio's set, resting her body against Eddie's, making sure to lace his arms around her shoulders.
Eddie realized all he needed to survive was metal, DND and Dani. Nothing else made him feel as complete and he was totally okay with that.

naruto blogging part 1: where i read a bunch of naruto/boruto spoilers after not touching the franchaise for like 12 years and what i learned infuriated me so much i dug myself into the hole of actually finishing reading the naruto manga
Ew orochimaru lived. And one of the boruto characters is a child he artificially created? WHO LET THIS MAN NEAR CHILDREN????
I miss when naruto used to go feral where's the naruto that threatened to break every bone in sasuke's body so he wouldn't be able to run away. Kemonomimi naruto would be so cute.
gaygayhomosexualgay. Sun moon imagery and everything. naruto reading straight porn: this is boring
The power creep looks so bad. like i got worse? of course it got worse. this is what made me drop shippuden the first two times. back in those days i still had hope for kishimoto's writing.
whats really interesting is that i remember back in the 2000s when people were making post canon fanworks for naruto and sasuke as like konoha jounin and everyone gave older naruto longer hair, like not long but longer than in canon. and kishimoto makes a timskip adult naruto and shaved him.
boruto aliens. why are there aliens???? another reason to never read boruto. I can't believe they made Sasuke AND Naruto deadbeats. Family is so central to both their characters this feels insulting. they should have matching arms. boruto timetravels??? if that wasn't blatant nostalgia bait i'd almost think it a good concept.
Itachis plan is so stupid. Teach him only hate and expect sasuke to be well adjusted. Juxtaposition of fragility and power
Naruto is so gay his only image of a hot girl is himself with boobs but when he tries to picture hot dudes he perfectly replicates details of half a dozen men. And whatever he has going on with sasuke. Im never reading boruto but i do think its funny how everyone says naruto and sasuke have more chemistry with each other in it then they have with their actual wives, that they married. Sakura deserves better someone free her from this franchise.
Showing a flash forward to everyone married is usually a terrible way to end a series. Hell i can only think of one series that does it well: ao no flag and thats because ao no flag does flag does it in a way that enhanced the manga's central themes of life is a series of choices that each person should make for themselves for their own happiness and circumstances of their lives no one else has a right to condone of judge another (including the audience. With naruto is was very much a "everyone must be heterosexual and have kids to be happy right? This is what everyone obviously wants" and then pairs off some of the people with the least chemistry is a way that goes counter to their characterization and development. With ao no flag the gap is purposeful the audience does not know what happened in those 7? 10?idk how many years and we have no right to condone or approve of the choices made by the characters. That time gap also serves to highlight how ao no flag is a series about adolescence on the edge of adulthood and that while a critical period of time, it is alao fleeting. It is a time of massive change, growth, and maturation and that means that characters change and become different people on the other side and the author is letting us peak into that otherside. First romances and highschool sweethearts rarely last because they are learning experiences and through that process people often outgrow their first romantic relationship and come out the otherside better for it
They reanimated an amv for the 20th anniversary and like half of it is just naruto and sasuke.
Miss the days when naruto would grow fangs and go feral. Imagine is he got fluffy ears and a tail. Maybe i just like kemonomimi.
I'm still not over how ridiculously bad itachi's "plan" was with sasuke. Theres a pretty good argument for kishimoto not knowing what he wanted when he first introduced itachi.
Tumblr media
he really did lose it after itachi, his "plans" at this point are just his whims, all he knows is that he wants to kill someone

Girl Scout pt. 2
Part one didn’t do too well so idk if I’ll continue this series or not. Plus I don’t really like how I wrote this part. Y’all know how I am with series 😭 but I hope y’all like it!!
Peter Maximoff x reader fic
Summary: Lorna breaks her leg and is no longer able to sell Girl Scout cookies for her contest. So Peter is forced to become an honorary girl scout and sell them for her. And in doing so meets someone who might be able to help him win.
Word count: 1334
Read Part One Here
Peter had assumed that it wasn't going to be all that hard to sell girl scout cookies. But he was so wrong, no one in the neighborhood was too eager to buy cookies from a grown man in a little girl's uniform. They would open the door, take one look at him and then shove it closed in his face. It also didn't help that he kept dropping all the boxes and having to go back to get them. At this point they were nothing but crumbs, he had run over some of them once or twice.
He had almost sold one box to this man around his age. But even after he had “proved” he was a girl scout as the man had asked, doing pushup and naming some of the patches on his satch. The man ended up buying a box from a different girl scout, from Sandra to be exact. His sister’s nemesis had given him this sickly sweet smile as the man handed her a twenty in exchange for 3 boxes plus a tip. After the man closed the door she turned to face him, her face now sporting a cruel smirk. “A little early for Halloween.” She stated. “What are you supposed to be anyway? A losing girl scout.”
“What no?” Peter said with a bewildered look on his face, wondering why this child was attempting to insult him. “I’m just trying to help my sister win a bike.”
“Fat chance old man.”
“Old man?” Peter interrupted. “I’m only in my twenties.”
“I already have the bike in the bag. There’s no way you can catch me.” She looked him up and down with a sneer. “Especially looking like that.”
“You know what, I am going to beat you.” Peter said with a new spirit of competitiveness in his soul. He never wanted to hit a 12 year old more in his life than right now.
She laughed at him, not believing his threat. “How many boxes have you sold?”
“Uh none.”
“That’s what I thought.” Sandra turned on her heel, flicking her ponytail over her shoulder as she did so. “Goodluck old man.”
“I’m not an old man!” Peter shouted after her retreating form, she just waved to him as she dragged her now empty wagon behind her.
As the sun began to set Peter began to lose all hope of even selling one box. He sighed and climbed the steps to the last house on the street, knocking half heartedly. He cursed as the movement made him drop all of his boxes on to the floor. When you opened the door you were greeted with a man around your age in a girl scouts uniform, cursing as he tried to pick up the boxes he had dropped. Each time he got one he dropped another, he bent down a little too quickly and his sash tore into two. You let out a giggle making him look up at you with a bright red face.
“Uhhh hey.”
“Hey.” You replied bending down to help him pick up his crumbled boxes. “Aren’t you a little old to be a girl scout?”
“Surprisingly that’s not the first time I’ve been asked that today.” You hand skimmed his and he shot off your porch, nearly crashing into your mailbox.
“What was that?” You asked with wide eyes.
“Uhhh, nothing.” Peter quickly replied.
You watched from your porch as Peter made his way back over to you. As he came closer you began to recognize his features, and you realized that you had seen him around before. “Are you the guy that was racing with his sister down the hill and lost her in my flower garden?”
“That’s me.” You laughed at his embarrassed tone.
“So why are you wearing what used to be a girl scouts uniform?” You picked up the sash that had torn in two, thumbing over the carefully stitched name on the front. You handed it back to Peter and he cursed at seeing it’s wrecked state.
“Lorna’s gonna kill me for tearing this.”
“I can sew it for you real quick if you want.” You pointed back to your house. “Do you wanna come in for a minute? And you can explain what it is exactly that you are doing.”
Peter looked at you with a curious look, wondering why you were being so nice to him. Truth be told you had seen him around the neighboorhood before and if you were being totally honest you had developed a small crush on the silver haired man. And inviting him in to fix what you assumed was his sister’s sash seemed like a good excuse to talk to him. Peter’s intense gaze was making you flustered, in seeing you turn away a blush took hold of Peter’s face. “Yeah that would be nice.”
“So let me get this straight.” You passed Peter a cup of lemonade, sitting down across from him. “You are selling girl scout cookies for your sister because she broke her leg, and you’re trying to win her a bike?”
Peter nodded along, the too small girl scout hat bopping adorably on his head. “And to beat her nemesis Sandra.”
“She has a nemesis?” You finished mending the sash, a long white line now scarred the surface. “What did this girl do?” You giggled, passing the sash back to Peter who gave you a grateful smile.
“Well according to Lorna she thinks she’s better than anyone and has won the contest three years running.”
“She can't be that bad.”
“Oh trust me she is.” Peter’s eyes narrowed at recalling his earlier encounter. “She’s a total brat.”
“Are you allowed to call other children brats?” You fought back your laughter at his seriousness.
“You are when they call you an old man.”
“She called you an old man?” Laughter filled the room from both of you. Peter telling you to stop laughing through his own joy at seeing you so happy. “Is it because of the hair?”
“Hey!”
After a couple minutes your laughter died down as you regained your composure. “Well you are far from being an old man. You are a very handsome young man.” You winked at him as you took his empty cup from him. Peter’s face erupted in heat as he mumbled out a thank you. You placed his cup in the sink and turned around leaning back against the counter. “So aren’t you going to ask me?”
“Ask you what?” Peter’s heart pounded at your vague question. Were you hinting for him to ask you out. Cause he really wanted to but he would have prefered to do it when he wasn’t dressed as a girl scout.
“If I wanna buy some cookies?”
“Oh.” Peter blushed and picked up a crumbled box and gave you his best smile. “Would you like to buy a box?”
“I would love to.”
Peter sorted through his boxes and handed you one of his least squished box in exchange for your money. You opened up a box of thin mints eager to eat one, pouring the box out into a ceramic bowl. You watched as nothing but minty dust fell out. “These are crumbs.”
“That they are.” Peter gave you a tight smile. “Please don’t ask for your money back, you’re the first person to buy a box.”
You laughed at his desperation, sitting through the crumbs for pieces. You found one full cookie and bit into it. “ I’m going to help you.”
Peter had a dumbstruck look on his face. “Why?”
You shrugged, brushing the crumbs off your hands. “Because that girl sounds like a jerk.” Peter followed you as you slipped on your shoes. “And I like you.” You gave him a smile and opened the door, waiting for him to go out it. Peter gave you a smile and followed you out.

The bell rang, signaling the end of class. The guys and I were quick to pack up our belongings before making a beeline for Mr. Clarke's desk, eager to see if the Heathkit came. All the while Mr. Clarke was reminding the already fleeting class of our homework assignment.
"Remember, finish chapter 12 and answer 12.3 on the difference between an experiment and other forms of science investigation. This will be on the test, which will cover chapters 10 through 12. It will be multiple choice with an essay section." His voice faltered towards the end of his sentence as he realized no one had been paying attention.
His head turned to us and he didn't seem too surprised to see us so eager. Mike couldn't take the wait any longer and spoke up on the behalf of all of us.
"So, did it come?"
Mr. Clarke looked solemn. "Sorry, guys," Our heads began to hang in disappointment at his words. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... It came!"
My face lit up with relief. We followed Mr. Clarke down the halls in anticipation. Mike got to the door first and eagerly threw it open, the rest of us close on his tail.
"Yes!"
Since Mike was the first through the door, naturally he dove for the desk chair as the rest of us scuttled over each other, each of trying to get a close look at it. Lucas and I seemed to have the same idea as we fiddled with the knobs on the Heathkit as Mr. Clarke addressed the new device we were all so eager to see.
"The Heathkit ham shack," The boys and I were in awe.
"Ain't she a beaut?" Mr. Clarke sighed. Dustin then spoke up. "I bet you could talk to New York on this thing."
"Think bigger." Said Mr. Clarke. I rose my eyebrow and looked to my teacher as I questioned, "California?"
"Bigger." 'No way.'
"Australia?" Mike pressed. We all turned out heads hopefully to Mr. Clarke as he responded with a smile and the shake of his head. We all exclaimed.
"Oh man," Lucas chuckled in excitement. "When Will sees this, he's totally gonna blow his shit." My smile faltered at the mention of Will, as Mr. Clarke scolds Lucas for his foul language. Lucas apologized turning back to the Heathkit, and I shake my head slightly trying to get my mind off of Will.
Lucas seems to have found the right settings on the dials based on the high pitch frequencies coming out of the Heathkit. Mike has the headphones on and begins to speak into the mic in an Australian accent.
"'Ello, this is Mike Wheela', president of Hawkins Middle AV Club."
Dustin then practically ripped the headphones off of Mike's head, a big goofy grin on his face as he placed them on his head. Mike was in a fit of giggles as he spoke. "What are you doing?" Dustin proceeded to do the exact same thing as Mike just moments ago.
"'Ello, this is Dustin, and this is the secretary and treasurer of Hawkins Middle AV Club. Do you eat kangaroos for breakfast?" I giggle, shaking my head thinking about the poor confused soul who is stuck listening to the boys ramble on. As Lucas grabs for the headphones, I turn around so I'm facing Mr. Clarke, and I give a polite, yet warm smile. "Thank you."
"You're very welcome Mr. Henderson," He returned the smile, seeming appreciative of the fact that at least one of us said 'Thank you'. He has always been a great teacher, and I don't think anybody ever really appreciates or even thanks him very much. I can't imagine how frustrating it can be as a teacher. I laugh to myself at the sight of my friends playfully fighting over who gets to use it next, when our fun gets cut short at the sound of a knock on the door. We all turn our heads to see the Principle walk in, a couple of men behind him.
"Sorry to interrupt, but, uh, may I borrow Y/N, Michael, Lucas, and Dustin?" To say my stomach dropped would be an understatement as I got a better look at the men out in the hallway and realized it was the Chief and one of his officers.
My mouth ran dry.
'Will.'
The four of were seated on the couch in the Principal's office, Chief Hopper, and officer Callahan - I believe his name was - seated in chairs opposite us. I was seated between Mike and Dustin, I kept my mouth shut unless told otherwise, and my hands have woven together in my lap, much too afraid to do otherwise. The boys, on the other hand, were freaking out and all trying to speak at once. I tried nudging them warningly with my elbows but they just ignored me. It seemed I had made the right choice in being quiet, as Hopper seemed to have gotten impatient almost immediately.
"Okay, okay, okay. One at a time all right? You." He points Mike. Mike shakes his head. "You said he takes what?"
"Mirkwood."
"Mirkwood." His face scrunched up in confusion.
"Yes," I croaked involuntarily, wanting to explain to him that it is just our name for road.
"Have you ever heard of Mirkwood?" He turned to the officer.
"I have not. That sounds made up to me." The officer replied. This timid, awkward man gave me the impression he was more of a 'Yes-man' and knew nothing about what he was doing.
"No, it's from Lord of the Rings."
'Oh, here we go.' I think to myself, sighing.
"Well, The Hobbit."
Mike and I look at each other, knowing what's happening.
"It doesn't matter." Lucas retorted.
"Knock it off!" I warn, trying my best to throw my whisper across the couch without drawing attention to myself.
"He asked!" Dustin nearly shouted.
"Guys!" I hissed.
"'He asked'" Lucas mimicking Dustin, not even listening to me.
I looked over at Mike for help but he is already checked out.
They continue talking over each other in a childish manner and the chief leans forward trying to silence them.
"Hey, hey, hey!" They quieted down finally. "What'd I just say? One at a damn time. You." He nodded to me. He seemed to tolerate just Mike and me.
"Mirkwood, as Mike was saying. It is a real road. It's just the name that's made up, it's what we call it. It's where Cornwallis and Kerley meet." I finish.
He seems satisfied, finally having a straightforward answer. He leans back in his chair, talking now to Callahan.
"Yeah, all right, I think I know that—"
"We can show you, if you want." Mike offered hopefully, cutting the chief off mid-sentence.
"I said that I know it!"
"We can help look."
"Yeah" Dustin added hopefully.
"No."
And just like that, the boys begin to talk over each other once again. Knowing better than to waste my breath trying to shut them up, I sit back once again, hands in my lap waiting for the Chief to continue.
"No," He says loud enough to quiet the boys. "After school, you are to all go home. Immediately. That means no biking around looking for your friend, no investigating, no nonsense. This isn't some Lord of the Rings book."
"The Hobbit."
"Shut up!" Lucas gave Dustin a swat on the arm.
Dustin reached over and hit Lucas back, knocking me and Mike back in the process. I roll my eyes in annoyance, and fight every urge I have not to shout at them.
"Hey!"
Mike finally snaps. "Stop it!"
They continue hitting each other and Hopper finally leans over and says quietly, in an irritated tone. "Do I make myself clear?"
I was the only one paying attention so based on his tired, lowered voice and his eyes on me, I could tell he was just talking to me at this point.
I shook my head. "Yes," I mutter.
He nodded his head at me in thanks. All the while, the boys were still bickering. Hopper's gaze landed on the boys, and he stood up and walked forward towards us. The way his tall frame towered over us was overwhelming, and enough to shut the boys up. In a deep, intimidating voice, he repeated his words, slowly.
"Do I make myself... clear?" The boys nod their heads in fear, their necks craning up to meet his eyes.
"Yes, sir."
"Yeah."
"Yes."
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
I've been laying in my bed, staring at the ceiling for about thirty minutes, give or take a few. I had managed to do all of my school work, including my project that wasn't due for another week and a half, read three books — granted, they were fairly short — and I was still left with nothing to do but worry about Will. The fact that I'm not allowed to help is driving me crazy, even though I keep trying to tell myself the adults are better equipped to deal with this stuff. My thoughts are interrupted by the crackling of the walkie-talkie that was sitting on my dresser. Since our mom couldn't afford two walkie-talkies, Dustin and I share one. I usually have it though so I can talk to Will.
The voice coming through sounded like Mike. Rather than getting my hopes up I just decided to stay put, staring at my ceiling, listening in.
"Lucas, do you copy? It's Mike. Lucas? Over."
"Hey, it's Lucas."
"I know it's you. And say 'over' when you're done talking so I know when you're done. Over." I roll my eyes and smile.
"I'm done. Over." I chuckle at this.
"I'm worried about Will. Over." My smile quickly falls.
I can hear Lucas sigh. "Yeah. This is crazy. Over."
"I was thinking..." Now I was really paying attention. "Will could've cast Protection last night, but he didn't. He cast fireball. Over." I sat up slowly, my eyebrows furrowed at the walkie.
"What's your point? Over."
"My point is... he could've played it safe, but he didn't. He put himself in danger to help the party. Over." A bittersweet smile flutters across my face briefly at this.
"Meet me in ten. Over and out."
'To hell with adults.' I tell myself. I leap off my bed and grab the walkie, knowing they'll still be able to hear me.
"Forgetting someone? Over."
"Y/n? Over." It was Mike.
"Don't worry, I'll let Dustin know. Over and out."
I retract the walkie before shoving it into my bag and heading for Dustin's room.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
Once I had caught Dustin up on everything, the four of us had met up and we are now currently riding down Mirkwood. The thought of my best friend disappearing right here, exactly 24 hours ago was enough to give me chills.
"Ah, man. This is it." Lucas broke the silence as we approached the barrier closing off the path where his bike was supposedly found. We all came to a stop.
For a brief moment, the woods were lit up by lighting in the distance as thunder bellowed across the sky. Dustin looked up at the blanket of clouds above the trees, his voice shaking.
"Hey, guys. You feel that?" He was obviously referring to the rain that fell on his face. I roll my eyes. "I think maybe we should go back."
"No!" Mike and I said simultaneously.
"We're not going back. Just stay close." Mike and Lucas continued on into woods. I was eager to follow them but not without trying to reassure my brother.
"Dustin, he's right. Look, I know you're scared right now, okay? I'm scared too, but can you even imagine how scared Will must be? We have to do this. For Will." I didn't wait for a reply and ran to catch up with Mike and Lucas.
Knowing my brother, he would rather stay in a group than split up. Sure enough, he gave in.
"Hey, guys, wait up!" He said, dropping his bike. "Wait up!"
We started walking again, and as we did it I could feel the rain start to soak my neck and shoulders. I pulled my hood up over my head, turning on my flashlight and set off into the night, eager to find my friend.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
The thunder rumbled, and as we ventured deeper into the forest I could feel the light drizzle of rain evolving into a steady downpour.
"WILL!"
"WILL!" I cried.
"Byers!" Lucas yelled.
Dustin tried a different approach. "I've got your X-Men 134!"
Our flashlights were hardly making a difference at this point. Dustin spoke up again. "Guys, I really think we should turn back."
"Seriously, Dustin?" Lucas exclaimed. "You wanna be a baby, then go home already!"
"I'm just being realistic Lucas!"
"No, you're just being a big sissy."
"Did you ever think Will went missing because he ran into something bad? And we're going to the exact same spot where he was last seen? And we have no weapons or anything?"
I start to slow down once I heard something in the bushes.
"Dustin, shut up." Mike spoke up.
'Okay, thankfully, Mike must have heard it too.'
"I'm just saying, does that seem smart to you?"
"Dustin!" I snap. "Zip it!"
Now the rustling was loud and clear.
"Did you guys hear that?" Mike asks.
I just shake my head, looking around for the source of the noise. The rustling is louder than ever and we all turn in the direction it came from. All our flashlights pointed in that direction. Then we heard it again. It was right behind us. We whipped around to find a girl, with a buzz cut, wearing nothing but 'Benny's Burgers' tee t-shirt. We all stood there, mouths agape at this girl, shivering and cowering in fear.

Not really an ask more just wanted to talk to someone who has the same opinion as myself. I just got done reading CCity and HOBOOYYY you and I were thinking alike. I’m currently reviewing my questions I gave myself post read and my annotated notes to prep for a good reads review. I regret throwing away my receipt for this book. I blindly bought the sequel and don’t have much interest to read another 800 pages of bs. Yet I want to skim and see how much worse it gets. I cannot believe while reading through your FAQ the amount of accusations you got from a negative review. This is my first SJM book she’s had what 12 books? To improve and still writes this way? Like something off Ao3? I spent $40 for 2 books when I could’ve just logged onto Ao3 for free. Loved your review in good reads. I’m baffled at all the 4-5 star reviews every single one mentions the 600 page filler and LITERALLY attempts to sweep it under the rug. There was no challenge proses no fun in helping the characters solve the mystery. The plot twists became insufferable. The hints dropped were TOO easy. This book boasts a majority of these characters are smart so why did I figure out everything not even half way into this forsaken book?! They are suppose to be BFFs but Bryce couldn’t figure out anything in regards to Danika. The math ain’t mathing. Also so many people had spoilers without warnings?? UGH! SJM had a great foundation built up and if she spent any ounce of proof reading and editing it could’ve turned into a great work. But here we are. The only thing I’ll give her is she got me to read all damned 800 pages. It was like watching an accident play out and you can’t help not looking.
I saw you’re watching the Witcher series but are you also reading it?? I’m the fourth book into the series and would love to here your thoughts if you have the time if not I’m gonna snoop through your Witcher posts regardless. Anyways I’ll die on this SJM’s writing is shit hill with you. I already bought the first book in that court series so I guess I’ll take a gamble at that too. Pray for me.
welcome to the community!
yeah sj///m's books are always touted by her stans as things they emphatically are not, but stans' fervor over her books draws a lot of people in, as well as the art (i've said it before and i'll say it again: sj///m does not deserve her creative fans). people either love her books (for some unknowable reason) or hate them and become antis, in large part bc the standom around her doesn't allow individual thought or valid critique. my best friend has a couple friends who like sj///m's books, so she asked them why (she is NOT a fan of either sj///m or her books, and she's another published fantasy author so she's technically sj///m's coworker) and one of them said bc the books are sexy (i fail to see how but okay) and another said bc they like the mythology sj///m writes (there are so many better authors who write sexy books full of mythology but do it well and respectfully and don't copycat other authors who came before them), which baffles me. idk she's popular for reasons i can't fathom, though sometimes i think that her biggest stans remain stans bc they refuse to agree with us antis.
as for the Witcher, no i haven't read the books! i'm not sure if i ever will simply bc of a spoiler i learned about the ending of the series (for Geralt and Yen), and the writing doesn't wow me enough to make me want to invest time in a long series when i read so sporadically these days as it is. are you liking the books?
ac0tar isn't as bad as, like, ac0fas (the novel-length Christmas fanfic sj///m somehow got published in hardcover), so if you're gonna read any of the court books that's probably a decent one, though ac0maf is arguably better than ac0tar, ac0war, and ac0fas (ac0maf is also the book that made sj///m into who she is now; without ac0maf, she wouldn't be the prolific author who can sell literally anything)

lover to lover and or new romantics 👁️
lmao Fir you know exactly what it is for lover to lover :idonotseeit:
lover to lover:
not quite my usual writing process in the sense that I wrote this for a prompt — I had a very clear idea for what I wanted it to be from the moment I got the prompt, but did not quite realize what I had committed myself to until I was in the middle of it. as I say in the notes to this fic, that was the first time I'd written debauchery and then I somehow was dumb enough to make it three people. yeah idk.
now, on to specifics:
“Well, it’s not hard,” she says.
“I mean, clearly it is,” George quips and chuckles before he can stop himself.
for those who weren't witnessing my breakdown over this fic live, I came up with The Joke™️ about 500 words into writing the debauchery and then it took another solid 12 hours and 1500 words to actually work it into the text. that is very much typical for the way I usually write (or used to? idk man things have changed over the past few months): start more or less somewhere in the middle with something I know that's going to happen, then come up with bits and bobs that will happen after that, fill that out and bridge those gaps, and then eventually figure out some way to start. oh, and take notes on what sorts of pants who is wearing at what point and when they're taking them off. important!
this fic was very much a series of increasingly escalating horny thoughts while suffering through one writing sprint after the other. it was an arduous process but ultimately worth it, I think!
lastly, I've never been happy with the intro to lover to lover and I keep meaning to go back and fix it, but where's the time for that... I was in an (admittedly self-inflicted) intense time crunch and had to have something and I just could not make it work in a way I liked. that's on the long, long list of things to sort out in the future.
new romantics:
VERY different experience and process to lover to lover, lmao. the first scene was the big one! I wrote it on my phone on the train and through months of working on this fic, it never really changed. part of my struggle with this fic was that I wanted it to actually do justice to the concept, because I love it so much — Lando reading romance novels! and doing some self-discovery! so many fics have a great premise but don't really follow through, they're just 500 ultimately irrelevant words of whatever fun premise before it devolves into debauchery, and while that can be nice it felt lazy and not worth the idea I had, you know? so it took a while to pad it (in a way that felt meaningful and appropriate and shockingly like a plot, yeah I know I can't believe it either) and even longer to write the debauchery that would have to happen at the end.
for a while, I considered whether this should be a fic about Lando getting romance/sex tips from books, but I was never fully convinced by that so that part only found its way into the fic as a little joke, is that what they’re teaching you in those books of yours.
other bits I had really really early on that made it into the final cut:
“My mum reads those!” Max says, half in mock-outrage, half serious.
and of course, If he completely stops watching porn and instead perfects wanking one-handed with the other one holding up his Kindle and tapping to the next page at somewhat regular intervals, he really doesn’t want to talk about it. He’d also rather not think about the staggering number of times he’s had to wipe come off the Kindle’s screen.
if all of this makes it appear like I have a plan for my writing, rest assured I do not. it's vibes only plus whatever occurs to me in the heat of the moment.

Going in blind: Watching season 2 for the first time. Random thoughts.
Tumblr media
Huh. Only 7 episodes. Not complaining necessarily. For series with an ongoing plot I've definitely become more in favor with their seasons only having as many episodes as they need rather than them having to stretch themselves out to full up a certain number of episodes, which can lead to padding and just bad character moments.
Episode 1: Jeez. Catra visiting Shadow Weaver's cell just to rub her success in her face and verbally abuse her back for once. It's like a twisted version of Zuko and Ozai from ATLA. Catra's upbringing under her was abusive but this is far from a healthy way for her to deal with it. She's basically deliberately swimming in her resentment.
Episode 2: It's not that I'm rooting for her but by-golly was it fun to watch Catra act like just the absolute worst she could while she was Glimmer and Bow's captive.
I touched on this in season 1 but part of the drama of the heroes feeling guilt over leaving Entrapta behind is kind of lost on me a bit simply because it was her own fault it happened. She deliberately went back into the purge room because of her machine obsession, which then closed on her and erupted in flames. It was more than reasonable to assume she was dead and no one but her was to blame, so I'm not really able to be invested in their guilt over it.
That said, weirdly enough I do like that her "abandonment" doesn't seem to be even a blip on the radar for Entrapta herself. She hasn't joined the horde because she resents the heroes or felt left behind, she simply is so obsessed with machines and experimentation that she'll be on the side of whoever lets her do the most of that. Like, it's selfish and irresponsible but it's very in-character and I'd far rather have a traitor motivation be based in that over something stupid like a misunderstanding.
Episode 3: I love the mental image of Shadow Weaver thinking up princess-themed ghost stories to tell Adora as a child.
So, if the previous She-Ra Mara separated Eternia from the other realms/planets/whatever she did and that's what cut off the She-Ra line for 1000 years, I'm guessing Hordak may be from the time before that happened, thus his drive to create portals and calling Eternia a backwards world. Either he's naturally long-lived or his technology is extending his life.
Episode 4: You know, you could maybe argue it was vague enough that it could be taken other ways but I'm definitely getting some vibes here that Scorpia is crushing on Catra. She literally refers to the two of them as soulmates at one point. I know she says she's trying to be friends but this feels a level beyond that.
Fun little reference to the original She-Ra cartoon thrown in there (and maybe Cowboy Bebop...? James Bond...? What was Glimmer's art style supposed to be?). I like how it is more like just playful ribbing than anything outright dumping on the original. Again, I've never seen original She-Ra but whenever remakes/adaptations go out of their way to trash to the original I always kind of wonder why they bothered doing an adaptation if the original is just that bad? Also, I was having trouble sleeping so it was about 2am when I watched this episode and the very Eartha Kitt Catwoman Catra made it very difficult for me not to lose my **** and stay quiet. With how much of a contrast that version is from the one in this series, that was hilarious. Bonus note, it's a nice touch that Frosta's version of Catra is a pretty crasher in that sweet suit, since that's the only impression of Catra she's ever had.
Adora being a chosen one is definitely elevated up simply by how much the pressure of what she's supposed to be is getting to her. I'm likely going to keep making Avatar The Last Airbender comparisons throughout the series but that's partly because I went into this series figuring it'd be at least structured similar to ATLA (season 1 being more episodic and a little more kid-friendly as it builds up the world before getting more serious later). Adora and Aang are interesting to compare here. Aang's worries early on were less apparent because he was more in-denial/choosing not to think about his problems that much, which fit with his character as a free-spirited Air Nomad. While Adora is much more military-minded. She can't keep herself from thinking about her problems and trying to prepare for the worst-case scenario. And jeez, that idea of who/how Catra is in her mind. Not only beating her but making her watch as she takes everything she cares about away. Not Shadow Weaver, not Lord Hordak, but Catra. That whole Lion King Mufasa/Scar moment between them in episode 11 and their fight in the S1 finale really did a number on her mental image of her old friend. Not reasonably so.
Minor note: I'm sure I'm the only one who got this impression but by the look of it, the way the robot's eye moved, and the music, after getting the soda spilled on it that little spybot gained sentience for half a second and then immediately died. It was so darkly comedic I had to laugh.
Episode 5: So that red disc is basically She-Ra's Red Kryptonite, having an effect on the mind rather than the body. The drunk Adora joke doesn't really do it for me but it did get some nice interactions going between Scorpia and Sea Hawk, two characters I certainly wasn't expecting to bond. I did really like Catra's panic when berserker She-Ra nearly beheads her. The implication is that is Adora really wanted to kill her Catra would already probably be dead. It's a thing I like about powerhouse characters like Superman or Aang, who could just demolish everything around them and don't simply because they're a good person...which in turn makes them the scariest person on the planet when they're well and truly ticked off. I'm not going to lie, I do kind of want to see a She-Ra version of Aang when Appa was stolen or when Superman fought The Elite.
Also, Catra's line of "I have control over Adora. I'm not giving that up for anything.". There's a lot to read into there.
Episode 6: I guess my prediction was sort of right. Shadow Weaver became basically a magic parasite and while it did increase the power she's capable of the implication seems to be that she needs a constant fix of magic to keep herself going, thus her attachment to the Black Garnet.
Have we seen Micah before? Given how long ago the flashback seems set, the fact that Shadow Weaver didn't kill him and thus he probably becomes someone important later in life, I'm guessing he's Glimmer's dad and the queen's late husband, since I think he's the only important male character whose face we haven't seen yet. Also, he's voice by Ezra from Star Wars Rebels and that cracks me up for some reason. It's the exact same voice and a relatively similar character.
I compared Catra and Shadow Weaver with a kind of twisted version of Zuko and Ozai and that definitely still fits here. Both Catra and Zuko confront their parent and call them out for the inexcusable abuse they put them through but while that moment was the start of Zuko's upwards journey this and SW's betrayal seems like it's going to cause Catra to spiral even further. Makes sense why Adora leaving affected her so much. She's probably the only one Catra's ever had that she could consistently trust and rely on, even if she did somewhat resent her.
Not surprised Hordak is getting along with Entrapta. She's not socially aware enough to be scared or intimidated by him, so she'll speak frankly, and since all she wants to talk about is the machines, experiments, and how they could get them to work Hordak probably doesn't take much issue with that. She's producing results, which is what he cares about, thus also why Shadow Weaver and Catra started losing favor with him. I wonder if Catra is going through imposter syndrome? Shadow Weaver had that line that Entrapta earned her place next to Hordak and, if you think about it, Catra hasn't really "earned" anything. We saw that she didn't really take her training or studies that seriously, showing up late to combat practice and even getting partial credit for what Adora beat. She wasn't promoted to Force Captain because of her own abilities but because Adora had defected when she was supposed to get that title. She's come close to a few victories but never really had any except for Glimmer and Bow's kidnapping...whom she then basically let escape when she returned Adora's sword to her. She doesn't have the slightest clue how the horde's bureaucracy works when trying to get things done, like simply getting troops armor. Given how much better than her Adora always was and how little she herself has to her name, I wonder is subconsciously Catra believes she doesn't deserve her current position and thus why she's fretting so much over trying to prove herself.
Episode 7: Am I mistaken or did Bow's parents say that he's the youngest of TWELVE siblings? I was going to ask whether Bow was adopted or if his dad's used a surrogate or if maybe there's even just simply magic in She-Ra's world that allows two people of the same sex to have a child together but now I'm just focused on the 12 kids thing. I get nervous just imagining myself having more than one. You should see me when I'm with two cats. I have to pet both of them because I'd feel like I'd be making one feel left out and like the other is the favorite. I'm a mess with kids.
The dad with dreadlocks (Lance?), his design looked familiar to me and I finally realized it reminded me a of a fanart design for a human Grim from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Very different voices between those two characters though.
I wonder if there's any significance to the robot protecting the crystal having the same design as those in the artic in episode 5? Obviously both have the connection to the First Ones but the robot in the forest who was also protecting First Ones' tech had a more insect-like design over these more worm/Graboid ones.
I'm kind of curious what Hordak would have done if Catra had told the truth. Given his interactions with her and Shadow Weaver he doesn't seem like the time to tolerate failure but I suppose the implication here is that he at least would respect those who own up to their failures. Or I suppose more simply he was just testing to see if she would lie to him and since she did there's little merit in keeping her in a position of authority anymore where she could lie about important things again.
Season 2 verdict: Still enjoying it. Another person on this reddit recommended I view seasons 2 and 3 as one since they are basically just one season split in two. I was going to do that but this ended up longer than I thought I would, so I'll just do 2 and 3 separate to keep them semi-organized and easier to read.
I think overall Catra is my favorite character since she has the most interesting backstory, interactions, and just general path through the story out of everyone. She's like Pearl from Steven Universe or, well, Zuko. There's just so much baggage there that she's trying and kind of failing to deal with. I'm always invested in whatever's happening when she's onscreen. Hordak so far is a good big boss villain for Adora to face but Catra is a good archenemy for her.

Girls Trip {Erik fic}
Warnings: 18+, smut.
{reader goes on a cruise with her girls during winter break post-breakup & meets Erik when she needs him most. The intro to a series. I hope that y'all enjoy this long ass intro x}
“Told you you'd like it! We know what you need.” your friend Lynelle says as you and your other 2 best friends step into the lobby of the ship.
Your original plan was to stay home and catch up on much needed sleep and netflix binge watching during Winter Break but Khadijah, Tasha , and Lynelle (Lennie)  had other plans.
They could never get on the same page to go on a proper vacation but the one time you wanted to be left alone they've decided to get it together.
2 plane rides and now you're here on a cruise on the way to 'paradise'.
The last few weeks went by in a blur while you were buying bikinis, trying to contain your emotions, and leaving behind your frozen over city for Bali.
You'd be lying if you said that you weren't a little excited to be leaving behind a terrible end to a 4 year relationship.
“Girl I just paid 12 dollars for Netflix this month. I planned on staying home and re-watching The Get Down. I need to at them and ask them when they're gonna add Crooklyn." You say as your phone begins to go off.
"Uh-uh, just cause your man had community dick don't mean you gotta feel like you did something wrong. You are the sweetest and most caring person I know and gave everything you had for that man. You are a strong beautiful talented black woman. You run your own business and don't need his ass for nothing. And if I were into girls I would've been shot my shot back in the 7th grade. Now, we gon' get tipsy, dance the night away in 23$ dollar heels, and find a fine ass beard to rid-"
You quickly cut off your best friend by answering your mother's call. You held onto Khadi's hand to let her know that her support means everything to you.
"Hey Mama. Yes I made it safe and sound." You say into the phone as you shake your head and laugh at your girls.
"HEY MA " Khadi says waving as she smiles at the woman on the other side of the phone she's known for over half her life.
"Hello Khadijah, are you behaving yourself ?" She asks as Khadi shakes her head with her tongue sticking out.
"MY GIRL." Your mother says as they both laugh and point at each other through the screen.
"I'll talk to you later, enjoy yourself baby. Sometimes a little fun and laughter is the cure for heartache. Love you, be safe." She says before ending the video call.
"Alright , we all meeting up for the foam pool party after the tour right? Cause I need to shower and stuff first." You say as everybody agrees
An hour or two later you were standing in front of the hotel mirror giving yourself a pep talk in your new bikini. You eyed your reflection as you tell yourself that somebody son is gonna love on your fupa, and the 3 years wasted with Derrick isn't going to matter anymore.
Tumblr media
"Knees. Knees. Come on knees." Khadijah yells as Lennie and Tasha  drop it low and make it clap as a chorus of 'ayyeeee' erupts in the elevator.
You make your way down to the lobby with the girls after throwing back a few shots in Lennie's room. You past by a group of other girls in the elevator and they were blasting Cash Shit from their phone.
"Link up with us later." Paris says from the other group before moving over to the party already happening.
Tumblr media
The drinks are flowing through your system and Tasha is filming you for the gram as you sing along to the music. You accidentally trip backwards onto a man behind you before immediately apologizing and giggling.
"You good mama." He says as he catches you with one hand and the other still holding his drink. Without missing a beat he twirls you to the beat so that you can play it off.
"What's the nigga name?" He asks as he takes another sip of his drink and tries to act like he ain't see you watching the suds slide down his scarred and chiseled chest to his happy trail.
"Excuse me?" You ask confused as he flashes his gold fanged grill and cock his head towards the phone in Tasha's hand as she gives you a quiet  'oooh shit okay'.
"The one you tryna prove a point to. Only name that matters now though is Erik." He says as he grinds against you and move your braids to your other shoulder.
"Alright Erik, lemme see if you can keep up then." You tease him as you begin to whine on him and ride the beat as he keeps up behind you. You realize you have an audience now with his boys glancing over at you and your girls watching him.
His hand holds you in place before he asks if it's alright if he kissed you. You nod before you know it his soft ass lips are on yours. He pulls at your bottom lip slightly while you continue to whine on him.
"Thank you for the dance." You say before you place one final kiss to his lips as the song ends.
You walk over to Tasha before grabbing her hand and leaving to find Lennie and Khadijah
You knew he was still standing there watching you walk away you turned to give him a look over your shoulder with a raised brow.
Tumblr media
"Stop watching my booty" you mouth at him jokingly
"YOU CAN'T EVEN BLAME ME. ITS FAT AS FUCK." He yells back to you over the music.
After an hour of dancing and having a good time with friends you only checked your phone once to find 3 messages from Derrick begging you to call him then two talking about how disappointed he was with you.
You stepped out onto the upper deck to tell him to stop calling you and ruining your good time.
"I can do what I want. I'm fucking grown. All you ever did was sit at home on your ass and criticize me for every damn thing I did. I made sure you were happy when I wasn't even okay… And fucking my cousin was your way of showing me you loved me huh? Don't call me no more and stop calling my mama asking her about me too. " You yell into the phone before hanging up.
You stand there staring out at the ocean for a moment. Trying to breathe deeply and ground yourself so that you don't cry.
"You good?" You hear a voice call from behind you.
"What, you following me now?" You ask Erik as he pulls up one of the lounge chairs to sit next to you and light his blunt.
"Nah, not at all. I came out here to smoke and chill. All that going on in there really ain't my scene. My boys got me to come here. They got white boys in there doing backflips off the balcony and shit. I probably would've still been at work right now." He say as he exhales and leans back against the lounge chair.
You laugh softly before shaking your head.
"That's how I ended up here. I was planning on spending Christmas and The New Year at home with my family. But my friends had this surprise for me to ring in the new year in Bali. And now here I am. I'd still rather be watching Godfather of Harlem. I gotta catch up." You say sitting next to him in the lounge chair. He instinctively wraps his arm around you letting you lay your head on his shoulder.
Granted, it probably seemed weird as hell to be cuddling with somebody you just met and barely knew but to both of you it just felt right in the moment.
"Godfather of Harlem ? That show is my shit. It's slept on forreal… If you ever in Oakland you should stop by sometime. I run a museum based on preserving black art and culture." He scrolls on his phone until he finds some of the pieces and shows it to you. But the main thing that stood out was Stevens Black Art & History: for the culture.
"Erik Stevens?" You gasp and sit up to get a good look at him
"Yeah , why you looking like that? What's up?" He questions
"Oh my fucking God. We was best friends back in the day. It's me, look, minus the bifocals, braces, and that James Brown bob my mama gave me damn near every day." You say and he stares at you in awe for a second.
"Damn it's really you." You says quietly as he runs his thumb over your cheek imagining you the way you looked in 5th grade.
You loved Erik growing up and spent almost all of your time together but after his father died you didn't get to say goodbye. He was taken into the system and after that you heard that he was in the military doing who knows what. You tried to find him but after a while it was no use. You couldn't believe how different he looked now. He looked tired down by the woes of life but still as beautiful as the day you met him.
" 'Member this?" You ask as you fish your out of the pocket of your cover-up and start playing Best Friend by 50 Cent.
You watched as he looked up at you standing up to dance. You pull him up too as he puts out the blunt while laughing and stepping with you.
"If I was your best friend, I want you 'round all the time. Can I be your best friend, if you promise you'll be mine?" You sing to him as he twirls you around
"First we get the talkin, then we get the touchin. If we get pass the phone games we'll be fuckin. I kiss like the french therefore my tongue in your ear. Do it like the dogs do it girl and pull on your hair. For me a different scenery just mean a different position. In the tub or on the sink I improvise now listen. In the chopper or on the jet join the mile high club. I'm no fool I know money can't buy me love. But I'm a different type of nigga that make sure that you know. Instead of a rose, there's a hundred dozen of those. See I see somethin special when I look in your eyes. With your legs way back I see this pussy is mine. If you ain't sure when I'm talkin I don't tell you no lies. But there's things that you say that have me wonderin why. When I don't say what I'm thinkin it don't mean that I'm shy. Got on that shit you picked out for me that's why I'm so fly." He raps effortlessly while kissing softly on your neck and all those memories start flashing back to you as you sway with him.
"Damn you still remember all the lyrics to our song." You say to him as you look over to see your girls and some of his friends.
"You out here ?  Bitch! I thought I was gonna have to do an interview on First 48 for yo ass. I was gon' drop a raft over to come find you. You know I can't swim and I don't got my floaties with me." Khadi says as she walks in with Tasha and Lennie .
"I'm sorry I came out here for fresh air and then ended up literally finding my fuckin childhood best friend. Before the baddest bitches on the planet came to be. There was THEE duo. Everybody meet Erik."
After everyone got to know each other. Y'all brought the party to the secluded little upper deck with the perfect view of the ocean. You had drinks , music, and good company almost enough to forget about the whole situation back home.
"Girl you know I love you but my feet hurt and Sebastian said he gon' rub em" referring to the man she currently had her arms around.
"Alright , we'll meet up in the morning for breakfast" you tell them before giving them kisses goodbye and heading out with everybody.
Tasha and Lynelle were currently singing to each other and sharing cute kisses off to the side. You couldn't help but to smile and think of how true love must feel. To love and be fully loved back like that.
You were standing in front of your opened room door when you realized that his room is across from yours but he had no plans of sleeping in it.
"Uh-uh. Who said you were invited in?" You ask Erik with your index finger on his chest.
Tumblr media
"I thought you said you wanted to watch Netflix? We can order room service and everything. Whatever you want" he says to you licking his lips and closing the gap between the two of you.
"I want to forget. I want to have fun. I want to feel loved and appreciated for once. That would be nice." You say quietly as he takes his hand in yours. Pressing small kisses to each of your knuckles.
He hesitates for a moment before leaning in to kiss you slowly. He held your face in his hands as he continued to back you into the room kicking it closed with his foot.
"I'm glad that we found each other. After all of this time. " You say to him in between kisses
"Believe it or not I kept that picture of us. The one your mama took of us at the zoo next to the monkeys. I took it with me on tour everywhere. Right next to my mama's picture in my wallet. I never lost a battle. I made it home in one piece. Shits wild." He said zoning out for a moment like he was going somewhere else.
"Heyyy." You call softly. You move his hands from your waist
" I've got you." You whisper to him before leading him to your bed and laying him back.
You wrap your arms around him almost cuddling him as you lay your head on his chest while listening to his heartbeat and sitting on his lap.
You place a soft kiss to his lips before moving away from the bed to change, settling on a large shirt and nothing else.
Erik followed suit and just stripped to his boxer briefs before you come back to the bed carrying soda , your laptop, and snacks.
"And before you ask. Yes, I packed my laptop because work never stops, and yes I packed snacks because I can't find Takis out here." You say chuckling softly while he shakes his head laughing softly.
You both settle into a comfortable position before loading up the movie. You settled on Nappily Ever After but it wasn't long before he was softly kissing on your neck with his hand under your shirt.
"Gonna eat it from the back. That's cool with you" he mumble into your ear.
If that's cool with me? BIH, I'm trying to let you give me twins. Triplets even. Play it cool. Play it cool . You thought to yourself before saying a silent apology to your girl Sanaa Lathan as you quickly moved the laptop to the bedside table.
"Damn she pretty." He says before kissing each cheek and gripping the back of your thighs. You knew what was coming next as your hands found the headboard and arched your back.
You can feel his tongue begin to explore the back of your thighs to your folds as he bends you forward.
You hiss softly as his hand began to roam. You looked back at him as his fingers enter you. He begins to slowly and deeply work you open for him. You knew that you were dripping at this point and couldn't contain how loud you're being.
You can hear him let out a groan as he gets his first taste. Before you know it he's devouring you like you're his favourite meal and is completely in his element. His hands are massaging over your cheeks while he suckles your clit and then slides his tongue in. You begin to work your hips down onto it as he's on his knees behind you. His fingers massaging skillfully over your clit.
"That's how you want it? It's all for you." You egg him on shakily as you reach back to grab at his dreads knowing that you're nearing your orgasm. You thought you were seeing stars but the audacity of this man bringing his hand down hard across your left then right cheek and then the pom-pom itself, did it.
Your toes curled and your head was tilted back as you continued to ride his face and the orgasmic wave crashed over you so hard it took your breath with it.
You called out his name speaking in all types of broken Xhosa as he begin to lap you up and savour your taste.
When you stopped shaking he sat back on the bed, proud of himself as he licked his lips.
You turned to face him and he wasted no time continuing to massage you.
But what you hadn't realized during changing you accidentally dialed Derrick. Who's now on the other end, yelling into the phone
{to be continued! I hope that it was alright!}

Things Left Unsaid
Someone To Stay Ch. 12
Content/Trigger Warnings: mentions of drug abuse
Tumblr media
"Where is he?? Where's Spencer?!"
You run through the hospital doors into the waiting room to find your Aunt JJ and Derek sitting quietly.
JJ quickly stands up and grabs you by the shoulders, trying her best to calm you down.
"Y/N, hey, look at me. It's okay. He's okay. Take a few deep breaths. Spencer is fine. We are waiting till they say we can go back to see him. Why don't you come sit for a minute? Just try taking deep breaths okay?"
You follow her to a seat, reluctantly. She rubs your back soothingly as you feel your breathing start to slow. You fall back into a seat in between her and Derek. The more you feel yourself calm down, the quicker reality hits you. Tears start to fill your eyes, threatening to fall as the memories play over and over again in your mind.
You're woken by the ring of you phone across the room. You rub your eyes and look around. You fell asleep watching Netflix on the couch again. You stumble your way over to your phone as you answer with a groggy voice.
"Hello?"
"Y/N, hey its JJ."
"Hey, what's going on? Are you guys still out on a case?"
"Umm yeah, that's why  I'm calling actually. I know you and Spencer have gotten to be pretty close friends and..."
Her voice trails off and the line goes silent. You feel a lump start to grow in your throat. In that instant, you feel your switch flip off, the switch to your emotions, allowing you to focus only on what needs to be done, and not how you feel about it.
In a cold voice, void of any emotion, you finally speak up.
"Where is Spencer?"
"He's in the hospital. He's been shot. It was pretty close to some major arteries. He's in surgery at a hospital here in Seattle."
You take a deep breath in, processing all the information you've just been given. "Okay, okay I'm on my way."
"No! There's nothing you can do here. They're going to stabilize him, then we plan to have him transferred to your hospital. By the time you get here, they'll probably be done and getting ready to transport him. I know it's hard, but just stay there for now. We will see you soon."
You stay silent for a moment before answering. "Okay. I'll stay here. But I want someone to tell me as soon as he gets here!"
You hung up the phone and walked back over to your couch. As you sunk back into it you felt your mind wander. The  image of Spencer getting shot, of him bleeding out...Spencer on an operating table, or hooked up to a ventilator...
You feel your switch threaten to come back on. You know if you let emotions in now you will fall apart. You are determined to stay unemotional, unattached. You are preparing for the inevitable hurt you know will be coming your way. So you sit there in silence, in the dark, waiting.
You sit there for two more hours until you get the call, the call that he is out of surgery and is on his way to your hospital nearby. You snap out of your stupor and into a sharp focus. You jump up from your couch and grab an overnight bag. You quickly stuff it with pajamas, comfy clothes, meds, glasses, contacts, toothbrush and anything else you can think of. On your way out the door, you grab Spencer's spare key. About a week and a half ago it had been his idea to exchange spare key's "in case of emergency". You had never thought any such emergency would arise, but here you were.
You quickly drive to his apartment. You jump out of the car and run up the stairs of his old building, the wood floors creaking below you as you move as quickly as you can. After unlocking the door, you see an empty black duffle he uses for a go bag for work. You grab it and make your way to his room. You don't think Spencer will mind. The two of you have become extremely close, and this IS an emergency. You stuff his bag with all the same essentials, but you make sure to grab a large assortment of his favorite comfort go-to books. You look at your watch, seeing you still have some time before they arrive.
You decide to swing by the store on the way to the hospital. Running into the grocery you grab a few of his favorite snacks including his favorite coffee.  You know just how bad the hospital's coffee is. You make sure to grab some chocolate iced donuts from the bakery section. Once at the checkout you see a couple science-based magazines, recognizing them as ones he's read before you grab those as well. You take a few deep breaths. You know you have to calm down if you want to get to the hospital safely.
As you sit in the waiting room, all you can think about is that phone call and the series of events that brought you here. You run your hands through your hair, pulling on it out of frustration. You focus on your breathing as all the noises around you fade into the background.
You aren't quite sure how much time has passed when one of the nurses approaches JJ and pulls her to the side to update her. JJ walks back over and sits beside you.
"They're letting one person in for now. They said after he's a little more awake, he can have more visitors. You're his best friend. I think he'd want to see you first."
She gives you a comforting smile as she squeezes your hand.
"The rest of the team will be coming by in shifts to check on him. Let us know if you need anything."
You nod as you follow the nurse back to his room. You recognize her. She's transferred patients to you several times. Thank goodness she doesn't try to greet you or make any small talk. All you care about right now is making sure your friend is okay.
As you walk through the all too familiar halls of the hospital, it feels like time begins to slow down around you. You can hear your heart beat in your ears. This is so different from the your usual cool demeanor amongst the many horrific things you've seen within these very walls.
When you finally reach the doorway, your eyes land on your friend. You feel your heart stop. You know that he's okay, but you never expected to see him like this. He's sleeping, probably on all kinds of heavy medication. His hair is even messier than usual, the dark circles under his eyes more defined. He looks like a ghost of himself. You see the bandages covering his shoulder and chest and tears finally push their way out, spilling down your face. You let them go for just a minute, letting it out of your system. You can't let him, or anyone else see you like this. You quickly wipe them away as you make your way to sit in a chair beside the bed.
You reach over and grab his hand, holding it as though he would slip away if you let go. You steady your breathing as you take a moment to look at him. He really was beautiful. His overly defined features, long lashes, plump lips, caramel curls falling softly to frame his face. Its as if someone painted him to be perfect. You reach up with your other hand to brush a piece of hair out of his face.
You whisper softly. "You really had me scared you know. They said you would be okay but... It just seems like everyone I care about leaves. I like to think by now you wouldn't do that to me, not on purpose anyways. I'm so glad you're okay. We have a lot more adventures to go on, you and I. I have a feeling that we have a lot of wonderful things in our future. So you've got to stick around for a long time, okay? I need you to stay."
"You can't get rid of me that easy."  You hear a soft reply and a chuckle, causing your eyes to shoot up. Spencer is looking over at you from hooded, groggy eyes, still clearly in a medicated haze.
"I'm so glad you're okay Spencer. I don't know what I would have done if you had.."
"But I didn't." He cuts you off.
"We don't have to think about that okay. I'm just glad you're here."
You suddenly feel embarrassed, that you were the one to rush to his side, and no one even questioned it. A couple of months ago you were strangers, and here you were, the first one he sees when he wakes up in the hospital.
"Oh well...JJ and Derek, they're here too. The rest of the team will be coming by in shifts. We were all worried. We all really care about you."
He smiles at hearing this. "I don't deserve you...uhh any of you. You're all like family to me."
"I almost forgot, I brought you some stuff."
You pick up his bag and set it next to him on the bed, allowing him to look through it.
"Hospital gowns really suck. And I know it can get really boring in here. Sorry I went through your stuff. I was just in such hurry and well, you said to use the key in an emergency and I figured this..."
"Hey." Hey cuts you off as her grabs your wrist. You had started to spiral, another side effect of your anxiety.
"Take a deep breath. It's okay. I really appreciate it. I actually can't believe you did this for me. You even grabbed all of my favorite books." He smiles as he pulls out a couple to set on the nightstand. He also grabs his glasses. He probably hasn't been able to see properly since the surgery, since they would have taken his contacts out. He makes his way into the snacks and starts munching away happily.
"I can't believe you did all this for me!" He smiles up at you, face full of food, like he hasn't eaten in weeks.
"Only if you share," you laugh as he hands you one of the donuts.
"What's in the other bag?" He asks curiously, glancing over your shoulder.
"Oh that's just my stuff." You shrug, not wanting to make much of it.
"Your stuff?"
You roll your eyes, knowing he won't let it go.
"Yeah you know, clothes, pajamas, toothbrush, etc." You turn a bit read, knowing how presumptuous you had been in bringing all of it, but you don't care. Spencer is priority, not your pride.
Spencer opens his mouth to reply but you continue.
"And before you can say anything about it, no I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying right here."
You still fully expect him to argue with you on the matter. What you don't expect is the giant grin he gives you as he pulls you down toward him, leaving a soft kiss on your cheek before pulling you in for a hug.
His head is buried in your shoulder as you hear
"Thank you Y/N...for everything."
The two of you stay there for a moment before a knock at the door causes you to jump up.
JJ steps inside "Hey Spence, I brought some people to see you."
She's followed by Derek and Penelope, who has her arms full of flowers, candy, and stuffed animals. You hadn't expected any less from your colorful, cheerful friend. She really knows how to brighten up a room, and goodness knows these dreary hospital rooms could use a dash of Penelope.
Spencer exchanges hugs with the three as they all sit down to talk with him. When they start talking about the case, you find yourself having to walk out of the room. Spencer seems unbothered by the situation. You get that it must be normal for him and the rest of your friends, but you aren't used to having the people you care about in harms way.
To them the guns, the blood, the danger, its all just another day at work. The blood you were used to, it's the putting their life on the line every time they go out into the field that makes you feel uneasy.
You make your way to your hospital floor, greeting some of your coworkers, explaining why you're there on your day off. They offer hugs, kind thoughts and prayers before you make your way back to Spencer's unit.
Hotch, Rossi, and Alex are now sitting around the bed. Spencer is sitting up more, looking a little more alert than before. He also looks in pain, but you know he won't say anything. In your experience, the men usually try to tough it out, especially with other people around.
You lean over near him and talk low enough for only Spencer to hear.
"Do you want me to call the nurse? We can get you more pain meds. I'm sure it's well overdue."
He brushes you off. "No, Y/N, I'm fine."
You're slightly annoyed at the front he's putting up, but not surprised.
"Look it's not a big deal, no one is going to judge you for needing a little help to get through this. Any normal person would. Why don't I just go ahead and..."
"I said no!" he grabs your wrist before you can hit the call light.
You're too stunned that he's yelled at you to say anything in response.
"I told you I'm fine. I don't want any pain medication, okay? Just take no for an answer and leave it alone."
You are completely used to moody patients yelling at you, taking out their frustrations on you, but this came out of nowhere. It's so out of character for him.
The other three take this as their cue to leave, as they each hug you and Spencer goodbye before exiting through the door.
"What the hell, Spencer?! All I'm trying to do is help you! Why did you just yell at me in front of everyone?"
You look over to see not anger in his eyes, but sadness. He's looking down at his lap as he fiddles nervously with his hands. You can tell he's on the brink of tears. You assume he must still be moody as the anesthesia wears off, something you've seen often.
"I need you to stay." he mumbles under his breath.
You scoot into the bed next to him, wrapping your arms around him to comfort him. You pull his head over to you, as you rub his back, trying to sooth him. You don't know what's wrong, but you can tell he's hurting.
"Of course. I already told you. I'm not going anywhere."
"Not j-just tonight...always. If I tell you everything, I don't think you'd stay in my life any longer. You're my b-best friend, and I can't lose you."
You feel his tears start to soak your shirt, but you don't care.
You whisper your promises softly "There's nothing you could ever tell me that you make me walk away. I'm not going anywhere. I don't care if you're one of the, what do you call them... unsubs or whatever. I'm staying right here, Spencer Reid."
He takes a shaky breath as he tries to calm down. He begins to tell you the story of one of their cases, and how it led to him being kidnapped. It was a man with DID, one personality the abusive father who had kidnapped Spencer, another being the son who thought he was helping.
"I tried to convince him to let me go. He wanted to help, but he was too scared of his father. He decided the only way he could help me was to take the pain away..."
Spencer gets choked up as he struggles to continue. You knew he had seen a lot of dark things and endured the trauma with Maeve, but clearly this affected him deeply in a way you had never seen.
"He injected me with dilaudid, multiple times. In the end, I had to shoot him. I had to kill him. And before I left, I took the drugs with me. I used for months after. I didn't know how to deal with what I had gone through it seemed easier just to...escape I guess. It made it easier to deal with problems in my life too, issues with my mother..."
You continue to rub his back, making sure he knows you are still here for him, despite divulging the horrors of his past.
"I have been clean for years now but...addiction it never really..."
You give his arm a squeeze causing him to finally look up at you. His eyes are puffy and red from crying. His cheeks are tear stained.
"I get it, Spencer. I understand. I'm sorry I pushed you, if you weren't ready to tell me. But it means a lot that you opened up to me about this; I know that can't have been easy. Just know, there are options here, non-addictive pain medications, if you really need them. But I won't push you okay? Just tell me what you need."
He wraps his arm around you before laying his head down on your chest, letting out a deep sigh of contentment and closing his eyes.
You swear you hear him whisper "You" before he fades back into sleep.
You make it your purpose to lay as still as possible, as not to wake him up. You lay your head back, letting yourself drift off to sleep as your mind swims with thoughts of feelings and things left unsaid.

“But I can't walk on the path of the right, because I'm wrong.”
So, The Last of Us Part 2 is out. It’s about 25 hours long. I’ve played it. I loved it, but it’s got its flaws. I think the hype buildup was overblown, and I think the zealous hate from the leaks was also overblown. This is a beautifully produced game that is trying to do much more than the typical AAA game tries to do, and in so trying, it’s messier, muddier, and more complicated than its predecessor. I love it for that, despite my issues with how the game ultimately resolves things.
I think Naughty Dog was either intentionally misleading audiences (which, given the marketing, is possible) or perhaps Neil himself has a different concept of the game he directed than what was actually delivered. Despite how it was advertised, The Last of Us Part 2 is not inherently about ‘hate’ or ‘revenge.’ It’s not just a revenge story.
It's a story about empathy, about how human beings and their interactions have layers, and how we are better when we extend blind empathy to others instead of blind hatred. I gotta talk about this. SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE GAME to follow.

.
.
Seriously, final warning for SPOILERS.
.
.
.
.
.
This game is simply too big, too complex, and has too much going on for me to write a single piece going over everything there is to talk about, but there are some things I need to say that inherently rely on discussing the entire game in a spoiler-filled way.
Let’s start with the most noticeable thing that has hit me over this game’s reception: people like Joel way more than I would’ve expected. SO much of this game’s negative reception seems to be over Joel’s character and the circumstances around his death. I was not at all surprised that he died - I was a bit surprised at when and how he died, in the moment, but even by the end of the next scene, it had washed over me how much sense it made. He died in the same way everyone else dies in this series. He had it coming in the same way anyone else in this world has it coming. He was never a hero. If you truly look at Joel as a ‘hero’ figure but don’t extend that same logic to Ellie and Abby, you do not make sense to me.
I’ve seen a LOT of hate getting thrown at Abby, and frankly, I do not understand it, and if you hate her but do NOT hate Joel or Ellie similarly, then I inherently don’t respect your opinion? You’re being blatantly biased and unreasonable in exactly the way this game is arguing you should not be. Straight up. Get your transphobic jokes the fuck outta here. Get your homophobic takes on Ellie and Dina the fuck outta here. Get your xenophobic complaints about the MUCH more diverse cast of characters in this sequel the fuck outta here. The ONE case where I could see a reasonable thing to be conflicted about is Lev’s character, because they are a transgender kid who gets deadnamed by some NPCs. As a transgender person, I personally found this to just...make sense and feel organic to the world, and none of the actual characters in the narrative with names or roles in the story ever deadname Lev. Lev is fucking precious and I love him, and I think his inclusion adds inherently more to this game than otherwise, despite the understandable conflict some might feel about his backstory. To ME, the fact that all of what Lev goes through and how Yara and Abby do what they can to look for him, that says to me, “protect trans rights” and I am glad it is there. Trans people have to deal with that shit sometimes, I think it’s fine having it be PART of a wider narrative. It doesn’t define Lev’s story, it doesn’t dictate the plot of the game, it’s a spark that sets some events off and I think that adds more than it could potentially take away, as does the overall representation in the game.
Getting back to this element of bias, though, I get that you “went on a journey” with Joel and Ellie in the first game. I get that. But you spend about as much time with Abby in this game as you did with Joel in the first game. And I see a lot of people are SOMEHOW totally fine and chill and cool with Joel going on a murder rampage in the first game, specifically killing at least one man who was specifically trying to save humanity - they cite that Joel is a morally gray person who has done bad things and is trying to become a better person. Sure, cool, OK. And Ellie, sure, ya’ll will think her going on a bloodthristy revenge quest is cool, fine, A-OK, because Joel was murdered. But somehow they are physically incapable of extending that same empathy to Abby, even after the game bends OVER BACKWARD in every reasonable way it could. Why is this? One person tweeted at me the simplistic, reductive idea,
“ I know the sensible thing that naughty dog was aiming at was that we'd feel sorry for abby and eventually grow to like her, but for me I just don't. I loved Joel and I love Ellie. They didn't kill anyone who I loved as a character. Abby did. “
At least they’re being honest with themselves in that they literally missed the entire point of the game. You having personal bias you cannot remove yourself from does not make for “A DEEPLY FLAWED STORY” or whatever the fuck people have been tossing around.
I personally don’t buy any of that bullshit until we get into the final hours of the game during the epilogue, but we’ll get to that.
Everything in the first 20-ish hours of this game felt organic and believable and completely in line with the first game to me, and the fact that ALL OF IT happens as a direct after-effect of Joel’s selfish act at the end of the first game really contextualizes how/why it was called ‘Part 2.’ So honestly, all of this nonsense about this sequel being ‘badly written’ is just...bonkers. I will agree it’s not some master class in writing - neither was the original game. But both games are very similar in writing style, tone, and the world presented is consistent, while character motivations are realistically complicated. Naughty Dog has never been great at plot, but the real quality of their work comes through in how much effort they go to in order to present realistic feeling worlds and characters, and from the environments to the actors to the extra animations on top, I think the details and the context they create are where they shine.
To better understand where I am coming from with this game, let me lay this on you.
During the scene in that basement, when Abby shot Joel in the leg, and Ellie shows up...I realized what was about to happen. Ironically, it was exactly what I had originally predicted was the thing going on WAY back when the game’s reveal trailer was dropped -- that Joel was dead, and was motivating Ellie’s revenge quest. If you’ve read what I have written of Arcadian Rhythms, you will have some idea of my feelings on Joel and Ellie’s relationship -- in short, I think it is complicated, and just as damaging as it is good. That’s real life. That’s how reality is for many relationships, especially ones between parents and their kids, especially in my experience. When I realized Joel was about to be murdered, my feelings and thoughts were not jumping to ‘oh fuck what an asshole I wanna kill these people’ or ‘oh no not Joel’ but rather, my immediate gut thoughts were ‘yupppp Joel kinda deserves this, he literally did this to who knows how many other people, but why are THESE people, specifically, out to get him?’
When Ellie later cites to Dina that there’s ‘no point’ in speculating as to why these people murdered Joel, because it could be for one of many possible reasons, I found that to be interesting -- Ellie herself acknowledging that Joel had fucked over many other people, while still pursuing revenge herself.
I do think the theme of ‘the cycle of violence’ is very core to this game and arguably is its strongest central theme, specifically because violence in wholly integrated into its gameplay. But narratively and structurally, empathy is, I would argue, even more paramount. This game spends about 12 hours of its runtime (so about half of the entire game) actively trying to encourage you to understand, relate with, and empathize with Abby. The developers COULD have had you swapping back and forth between both characters, which might have resulted in better pacing, but I think it would’v taken away from what they were going for. It’s that long, slow burn that makes Abby’s side of the story work, in much the same way the long, slow burn of the first game does what it does, and the way the long, slow burn of Ellie’s revenge quest helps us see just how far gone she is.
But “arghh I hated Ellie she kept making bad decisions that made no sense” some of you say, “they did her DIRTY” some of you say.
No.
Joel did her dirty.
The Fireflies did her dirty.
And it’s this exact concept -- that our actions and choices have consequences and ripple outward beyond what we can initially imagine - that is at the heart of why I think I love this game so much. Most video games depict a pool of water that is either a constant whirlpool, a raging clash of waves, or stone dropped in the middle and the ripples spreading out. The Last of Us Part 2 is more like a series of ripples all happening simultaneously, and not all of them are as apparent or even important, but it’s just...a bunch of ripples all happening all over the place.
And it breaks my heart, during 2020, a year when human rights, systemic racism, a worldwide pandemic, late capitalism, and entire countries submerged in protests because their government is fucking them over...has people shutting off or refusing to turn on their empathy to anyone outside of their bubble. In 2020, when the world needs empathy more than any other year I’ve experienced in my life thus far, a game like this goes SO FAR above and beyond what most games try to do, in a very risky and controversial way, to actively invite its players to fucking STOP AND CONSIDER for a damn moment that there’s more to the world than JUST YOU and what you care about. That your actions have consequences beyond your singular perspective.
Ellie is fueled by rage for a number of reasons, and we don’t even understand all of them until literally the final moments of the game, which I found to be appropriate as it ends on a note of reminding us that there is ALWAYS something we don’t know, something we don’t understand, motivating someone else’s decisions.
Ellie was robbed of agency, of purpose, by both Joel and the Fireflies. Joel robbed both Ellie and the Fireflies of their purpose. And the Fireflies robbed Ellie and Joel of theirs. In return, Ellie is left without purpose, and all she’s really left with is a broken man who desperately wants to be a dad again, to the point that he will murder and lie to hold on to that. Don’t get me wrong - I don’t necessarily hold it against Joel that he murdered people to save Ellie. I will always defend the idea that it was a fucking selfish decision that would realistically lead to consequences. But in the same way Marlene points out to Abby’s dad, ‘What if it was your kid?’ ie ‘What if it was someone you loved?’ I get that, that’s the beauty of how the first game ended. It presents a zero sum game where there is no ‘correct’ choice that everyone can agree on, but in the back of our heads -- and Part 2 actually states this as a point of fact -- we all know Ellie would have CHOSEN to sacrifice herself, had she been asked.
So it was deliciously realistic to me to see Ellie grappling with the frustration, distrust, and anger of Joel having not only robbed that purpose from her, but having lied to her about it. And in the end, it was also wonderfully realistic that part of why she hated Abby so much was that Abby inadvertently robbed her of her chance to try and rebuild and repair that broken relationship.
But here’s the thing, though - the thing I see fucking NO ONE talking about, and I can’t decide if it’s because no one is picking up on it or what.
Both Ellie and Abby are haunted and driven by broken men making selfish choices. Their selfishness keeps both characters kind of locked in to desperately grasping at violent acts to justify a purpose.
Some will play the flashbacks with Joel and will feel warmth and nostalgia and admiration. Some will play the flashbacks with Owen and feel disinterest or disgust because ‘why should I care about these people?’
For me, I couldn’t help bu draw parallels to how both Owen and Joel were men trying to be good, you know, not being specifically evil people, but men who were a bad influence on the women around them, who were great and good and charming and all that until things didn’t go the way they wanted, pushing and prodding with passive digs and pressure to reaffirm their own hopes that despite their mistakes, they’re ‘good men.’ Owen is admittedly much less well developed in this regard, partly because his arc just isn’t as deep or interesting, partly because he didn’t exist in the previous game. But I still could not quite shake it. I grew up with men like Joel and Owen as my father figures, so there’s personal bias there.
I literally had an actual nightmare that woke me up in the middle of the night partway through playing through this game because Joel was in it and I said or did a thing he did not like, and his reaction spooked me awake, in part because I LIVED that growing up. (not murder, but violence, passive aggressive manipulation) I absolutely adore the depth given to Joel’s character, that he has LAYERS to him, and I loved seeing Tommy similarly expanded upon. (him passively prodding at Ellie to try and make good with Joel felt a little manipulative, given that he KNOWS what Joel did; and even his wife’s prodding at Ellie at the game’s outside to ‘make good’ with some old jerk who seems all expectant about being rewarded for basic apologizing, ech)
Last of Us is a horror game, Part 2 even moreso, but it was the feeling of men like Joel who do bad things and then try to justify them after the fact that actually creeped me out more -- all the more creepy because I KNOW Ellie and Abby will give up on better choices to try and ‘do right by them’. I was relieved when Abby began to break free from these old, poor choices, even shortly after making more fo them during her half of the story. This brings me to another fascinating aspect of this game: how Abby’s story is a combination of both Joel’s and Ellie’s.
Dunkey (of all people!) recently praised this game and compared Ellie’s and Abby’s narratives to TLOU1 and Uncharted 4, and I agree with him in a lot of regards, there, but I think what the team was more going for was for Abby’s story to feel like a combination of Joel’s and Ellie’s while simultaneously being directly impacted by Joel and Ellie’s story.
Abby grew up in a military community, even though she expressed an interest in science -- just like Ellie. The death of her father drives her on a quest for revenge -- just like Ellie. She does some horrible shit to people all in the service of trying to protect a kid as some desperate attempt to feel better about all of the bad shit she’s done -- just like Joel. She starts to let herself be empathetic to other people and tries to become a better person because of the kid she takes under her wing -- just like Joel.
In a way, you could argue Part 2′s overall story is kind of repetitious. Ellie’s quest for revenge is a bit too narrow-minded and blind in her rage, and Abby’s story kind of recycles many components we have already seen up until that point. I think what’s there still generally accomplishes what it set out to do: get us to question and try to understand why people do what they do, and consider our own place in that cycle, in those ripples.
I think many aspects of this game that look circumstantial on the surface are not accidents.
I think the recurring imagery of water is an allegory for how we can let rage, anger, and hate drown us. The game’s title starts with a boat drifting in water, and the title changes after the ending to a boat that is beached. The Seattle arc shows a gradually increasing focus on water flooding the environments, culminating in a big rainstorm with crazy waves. The final fight sequence (which tbh I hated but we’ll get to that) takes place literally IN water, involves Ellie trying to drown Abby, and ends with the two of them going separate ways in their boats.
I think it’s no accident that Abby and Ellie’s desire for vengeance is ultimately caused by the same specific moment, and I think it’s interesting that many people seem to skip RIGHT OVER the idea that Ellie feels such a deep sense of rage at Abby killing Joel only because Joel made the decision that caused Abby to kill him in the first place -- and the good and bad that came from that. It’s just a brilliantly complicated web, I think, and that further highlights that none of these characters are inherently good or evil, which is pretty much the entire point of this world in the first place.
I think it’s interesting that both Ellie and Abby grumble insults all of the time over the people they’re killing, and both try to justify their violence with thoughts like “well we’re better then that, we don’t do THOSE kinds of things,” which is, ya know, literally the kinds of mental hoops actual real human beings jump through to justify doing bad shit to each other.
I liked the idea of the trading cards until fairly early on when I found the ‘Dr. Uckmann’ card, which...made me roll my eyes a little at first, until I read the description, which then made me feel more actively uncomfortable than maybe anything else in the entire game, to be quite honest. Partly because it rang of entitled self-importance, but partly because of the reports of Naughty Dog crunch culture.
And on that note, let’s talk about how this game arguably crunched its employees way more than it needed to while simultaneously making its story more bloated than it needed to be.
Don’t get me wrong, I love indulging in more STUFF than it required. I can totally see the appeal of writing extra stuff to a story like because you can, because it’s interesting, because it’s fun to MAKE shit. But when you are a AAA game development studio who is potentially crunching your employees into burnout, maybe a fairly pointless epilogue on top of a game that is already arguably a bit too long in the tooth is...maybe not the best way to go?
On the upside, I enjoyed playing the Santa Barbara location, I loved getting some more Abby/Lev time, I liked seeing Ellie a bit older, I LOVED the scene at the farm with her, Dina, and JJ. I loved the gameplay challenge that was the Rattler’s base. I loved that this game had noticeably larger environments to explore.
But tbh a LOT of content could’ve been cut from this game to make a smoother, better paced experience while simultaneously putting less strain on the developers. I do think the extended flashback sequences focused on non-violent gameplay is important enough to justify itself, but I think a lot of the more violent or unnecessary parts of the game (like the entire sequence on the Seraphite’s island and the Santa Barbara sequence) all feel like...EXTRA? Which on the one hand is great because hot DAMN more beautifully rendered locations, content, etc. but on the other hand I’m not sure it adds as much to justify the real life pain and misery I’m sure some developers went through to create it all, and in a way, it doesn’t quite justify its own existence if we’re being critical.
I get what they were going for with the Seraphites and the WLF but neither group is developed enough to really accomplish the goals of empathy. I think focusing on specific members OF those groups is better, because that is ultimately how real life people break down their walls of bias, -isms, etc. -- they just interact with and befriend people from these groups and realize organically “oh hey we’re all...people, huh.” The game’s attempts at naming NPCs and dogs don’t do much when the game actively rewards you for killing them (speaking of which, I played on Normal and there were way too many items imo, we’ll see how that is on higher difficulties). We could get into the role of violence and gameplay but that’s a WHOLE other can of worms.
But the Rattlers in the final act are even worse. After this entire game of being actively encouraged to empathize with other people from other groups and let yourself consider they aren’t evil, the game just...shoves an objectively worse group of people at you, asks you to murder them, and then...discards the whole thing without a second thought. I found this to be fun from a gameplay perspective (sorry Neil, playing your game actually IS FUN when you put so much work into making the violence fun to engage with) but I found it weird and frustrating from a storytelling perspective, as if the whole thing was an undercooked, unfinished final act that they cobbled together because they just...wanted enemies with helmets and an environment depicting southern California. Hell, tbh I don’t even get why Ellie had to be there other than the developers didn’t think players would be OK just...letting Ellie live a life in peace on a farm or that players would be OK NOT playing as Ellie at the end and letting her beat the shit out of Abby.
I actually LOVED the farm sequence, it felt so...weird for a while. Like you’re just waiting for the hat to drop. And when it does...it’s just PTSD. And that felt right. That felt good, that even though Ellie was spared, after all the shit she did, because she let go and spared Abby in return, she got to live this peaceful life...except life’s not that simple and old scars can still hurt.
I loved when Tommy showed up and we got to see that darker side to him we KNOW has been there this entire time, but Ellie maybe hasn’t been forced to see it. All the way up until this point, I felt I could understand where the characters were coming from and what motivated their decisions.
And then Ellie decided “no, actually, maybe if I throw all of this away I can maybe get rid of this PTSD I got from throwing everything away before.” And then it got worse when after she breaks into this fucking slave house to free people, after she saves Abby and Lev from dying on posts, she STILL wants to fight. ANd Abby’s where I’m at -- that ‘fucking REALLY?’ feeling. I utterly disliked the fight scene in the water. It was the one time in the whole game that actually felt like misery porn to me. I was honestly going into it expecting that maybe Ellie’s stab wound from the trap would cause her to be too weak to fight, and she’d literally drown from bleeding out because of her own unrelenting pursuit of revenge. But nah, we’re put through a pointless, brutal fist/knife fight that...doesn’t really have purpose imo. WHatever you wanted to accomplish here, you could’ve done back in the theater in Seattle. (on that note I LOVED the Ellie boss fight, what a fun gameplay thing and also just tense all around since you really couldn’t tell what was going to happen, but I LOVE that Lev stopped Abby from killing Dina, even though she had every reason to)
I can imagine different versions of the Santa Barbara sequence that offer a more edifying conclusion while still working in the environmental and gameplay components they seemed insistent on working in. It’s the one major portion of the game that, now that I’ve had time to process, I feel the most conflicted about.
Neither Ellie nor Abby “deserve” a happy ending in much the same way Joel didn’t “deserve” a happy ending. This game has no true protagonists or villains (anyone who is presented as a ‘villain’ is minor, and we don’t find out much about them anyway). I think Joel was lucky to get the time he got to live in community once again, to rediscover his humanity (look at all of those flowers they left at his house, this man who fucked over humanity and murdered countless people had a chance to live a few years of peaceful life again), I think Ellie was lucky she got time to even live what she did on that farm with Dina and JJ, and was lucky to still be alive at the end of the story. I think Abby was lucky to have been able to break free from a life of militaristic bullshit and rediscover some of her own lost humanity.
I think a lot of people admire Joel as a hero when it’s clear he was never one.
I think a lot of people admire Ellie and try to idolize her as the smarmy kid she could never permanently exist as.
I think a lot of people hate on Abby for EXISTING (and being a woman -gasp- WITH MUSCLES) and I’m pretty pleased with Laura Bailey getting to play this role (and Ashly Burch getting a supporting role in this game, too, for that matter).
I think The Last of Us is not ‘about Ellie and Joel.’ I think The Last of Us is about humanity, and exploring it through different angle. Sometimes needlessly gritty and dark ones, but Part 2 gave us even more light-hearted, pelasant moments than I could have expected. I think people who look so reductively at this game -- now officially a ‘series’ -- as ‘Joel and Ellie 100x forever’ and literally anything outside of that being bad and a waste of time fundamentally missed the entire purpose of this game, ironically ignoring what it is trying to passionately to convey. I think Naughty Dog’s marketing of the game actively misled people in ways that are rare for the industry, and I do think that is a bit shady - but on the other hand, being misled actively improved my experience with the end product (which is arguably why they did it). I think the way Sony has latched on Joel and Ellie as ‘Playstation Icons’ and encouraged people to buy up TLOU merch depite there not being much TO turn into merchandise says something.
Also? Frankly?
I am SO FUCKING TIRED of “angry sad dad” games.
Like. I loved TLOU 1, I loved the new God of War, etc. etc.
But God of War took basically NO RISKS and had NOTHING TO SAY that countless other pieces of media have said to death. That’s fine, there’s nothing wrong with that, I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next. But this game actually has challenging thoughts, complicated things, it is trying to get players to consider, and most everyone I see shitting on the game either hasn’t played it or doesn’t seem interested in games that exist for something beyond making them feel good about themselves? I dunno.
I think at the end of the day, TLOU as an entire series, and specifically the sequel, isn’t about Joel and Ellie, that was just the more focused lens the original game had. For its messier, muddier experience, Part 2 strives for nothing more than many pieces of media have but for something that is still rare in the space of AAA video games.
It takes some risks, it makes some missteps in getting where it goes, for sure, and it’s by no means some holy gift to mankid, but it passionately goes to GREAT lengths to explore and express a fairly simple idea:
empathy is a choice, understanding others is a choice,
and we are all inherently better off when we choose to blindly accept understanding than when we blindly choose hate and violence.
Just because we can’t walk ‘the path of the right,’ and just because ‘we’re wrong’ doesn’t mean we should let the phantoms in our lives continue to keep a hold on our future. Just because someone does some good things doesn’t erase the consequences and ripples of the bad they have done, and just because we do bad things doesn’t mean we can’t do good.
The way to end the cycle of violence is empathy.
It’s simplistic in concept, but if you look around at not just the reception to this game even before people could play it, but just the STATE OF THE WORLD IN 2020, you will see that maybe we still need such basic, simplistic concepts to continue to be explored in big budget media.

What is it about Malex?
I was playing around on my phone at work (when I should have been working lol) and came across some article about the best TV couples. It was published in 2018 so Malex wasn't in it lol
But I was going through the pictures in the article and I saw a lot of the couples I've liked & enjoyed over the years listed. Pacey & Joey, Captain Swan, Haleb, Stydia, Kurt & Blaine etc.
I started thinking...what is it about Malex that makes them extra special for me? What is it about them that made me join Tumblr and Twitter for the first time? I never had either before this year. What is it about them that made me write more fan fic in the span of 3 months than I have in years of watching other shows? And I'm someone who studied English Lit in university and have written many novels, hoping to finally pursue publishing this year with one of them. But the amount of fan fic I've typed out the past 3 months? My hands seriously hurt!
So why is Malex so special?
(I made a collage below)
Is it because they're an LGBTQ pairing? There have been other LGBTQ pairings I've rooted for. Malex isn't the first and they won't be the last. Times are changing in TV land and we're seeing more and more representation. It's progressing slowly, but it is changing.
Is the reason Malex is extra special a shallow reason? The actors are both incredibly good looking. No getting around that. But I loved Haleb too and Tyler was one half of that ship. I adore Joshua Jackson and Dylan O'Brien. I think Holland Roden is beautiful. In the couples I've followed over the years, all the actors & actresses have been attractive in their own ways.
-- side note -- I know I put Destiel (SPN) in the collage below even though technically they're not a couple but some of their lines over the past decade, I mean come on! It's so obvious! --
Anyway...
Is it the chemistry between Tyler & Michael? I thought Katie & Josh had amazing chemistry. Only reason I watched PLL was for Haleb and the friendship between Tyler & Ashley. Some of the couples I've rooted for really sizzled on screen. Do I think Vlamburn has better chemistry than all the others? Not necessarily. I think they tie for first with some of my other faves (although I would probably rank them above right now just because they're current).
So what is it about Malex that made me so emotionally invested that I joined social media like this? That I've written a bunch of fics and have so many other concepts cooking in my head.
I think it comes down to the angst at the end of the day and how the story has been written.
I've directed a lot of disappointment and anger towards Carina and the writers since that finale because I'm afraid the triangle will grow and span multiple seasons. I'm afraid the writers will show Michael really starting to have deep feelings for Maria the longer M&M exists (I know Vlamis said in those last interviews that his feelings for her are already very deep but sorry Vlamis. I love you but I don't see that yet.) I'm afraid now that they know they were renewed, they'll drag this storyline out, pursure M&M and then Michael with other relationships if/once M&M ends with Alex just waiting in the sidelines, moping and heartbroken.
But despite all my fears and disappointments after that craptastic finale (seriously, I can write a 20 page essay), I have to give the writers their credit.
The story they wrote, the beauty they created in Malex, with that amazing angst and history and love is the reason I'm so invested.
"Where I stand, nothing's changed"
"I never look away"
"That I loved you and I think that you loved me."
"Cosmic"
"But you are mine"
"I don't look away Guerin"
"I love him. I probably always will"
I mean, these lines all exist. No one can take those words away. Yes, the writers can try and diminish it by shoving another relationship down our throats & attempting to give that relationship the same level of meaning and importance (sorry, not buying it. Hardly anyone is). But those lines will always be there.
The epicness of Malex will always be there.
That beautiful first kiss in the reunion will always be there.
Their connection in senior year, bonding over their painful childhoods and living situations will always be there.
Caulfield, although bittersweet, will always be there.
Michael Guerin wanting to be Alex's hero will always be there.
The angst and love between them is just unbelievable. I don't think any other couple I've rooted for over the years has had the same amount of angst or history. Their story is just beautiful.
I don't cry too much in movies or TV shows unless there's a really sad death that hits me hard. LOST was one of those shows where I sobbed constantly (Jin & Sun's death, Juliet's, Charlie's...I could go on).
But I cried after that last scene in episode 6, when Jesse destroyed such a beautiful and pure moment 🥺
I cried at that moment in Caulfield 🥺
I cried at the finale, watching Alex just waiting there while Michael....let's not remind ourselves 🤨
So yes, the chemistry is unbelievable between Tyler & Michael. How close they are offscreen shines through their performance and this is in a cast where everyone's close. But with Vlamburn, especially from Michael, he's so unfiltered when he talks about Tyler's eyes or the way he kisses or just how much he loves him. What can I say, they make me love Malex more ❤
Yes, they're both incredibly good looking but that's a miniscule, shallow reason. How good looking a couple is in no way compares to how much their emotional connection matters, at least for me.
So really, it's the story. It's the history. It's all that profound, made for each other, soulmates love that they share. It's the incredible angst that makes me root for them even more.
And yes, as much as Carina and crew have angered me after that finale and after their insistance of shoving this triangle down our throats and in our faces, they did create Malex so I have to be grateful for that. Vlamburn perfected it and made it epic but the concept came from Carina (trust me, it hurts to give that credit).
So as much as it still hurts with what happened, as much as seeing the M&M promos bothers me, as much as I'll be a sobbing mess once season 2 hits and Alex realizes what happened, I have to believe that this much care and heartbreaking angst was given to this couple for a reason. That reason has to be that Malex is endgame.
Can Carina change her mind about Endgame Malex? Sure she can, if she wants to lose a substantial percentage of the fandom. But I can't believe she'll do that.
I can't believe that Malex is anything but each other's ending.
I can't believe that this beautiful love story we've seen between 2 men who started as scared, lonely boys and are now broken men trying to put themselves back together is anything short of EPIC.
I can't believe that M&M, however painful and ridiculously unnecessary, is anything but a bump in this road for Malex.
All that matters is how the writers take us from point A to B.
Does their separation last for 4 more seasons (pending renewals) and Malex reunites in the series finale, season 5? God I hope not. I need to see them existing as a couple together on screen, not just a kiss and makeup moment last episode and assume they made it. So once this teenage level of triangle nonesense has been dealt with (please let season 2 be the end of it!!!!), I really hope the writers realize the amazing couple they created and give them their due justice by bringing Malex together for good.
Episodes 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, last Malex scene of 9, beginning of 10 and all of 12 point this show towards one inevitable ending with Malex and that's reuniting (did I get the episodes right?). Just keep your fingers crossed it happens sooner rather than later. Right now, that's where my main fears lie.
This fandom has been super great about lending support to one another when things get tough. Unfortunately, things will get even tougher next season so it will be good to have this great support.
As far as the promos and interviews we'll be getting between now and 2020, I'll try to only watch interviews that Michael & Tyler give together and avoid anything that seems like M&M promotion (outside of full cast interviews or festivals etc). I love all the actors on this show. They're all wonderful and talented and deserve our love and support (not commenting on that Nathan instagram thing).
But as a Malex fan, I have no place in my life for unnecessary stress from a TV show because honestly, as invested as I am, it's still just a TV show. No need to give myself more heartbreak before season 2 even airs by watching pro M&M interviews like yesterday. I'll just stay in my happy Malex bubble until then (and then die when I see M&M next year 😭).
In the end of this long post, all I wanted to say is that Malex is extra special, head and shoulders above others ships I've rooted for and that's mostly because of the beautiful story I've seen on screen but Vlamburn defintely plays an imortant part in making it epic ❤
I'm a Malex lifer. Nothing will ever change that.

Shatter me
Summary
As Shatter Me begins, Juliette Ferrars is a teenaged girl locked in a cell at an asylum for a crime she accidentally committed years ago. She’s starting to lose her mind from the isolation, but one day, the guards tell her she is getting a cellmate. She is worried when she finds out that the cellmate is a young man named Adam. She knows she remembers him from somewhere when they meet, but she cannot figure out from where. At first, she is scared of him, and Adam behaves aggressively, taking over the one bed and blanket in the cell and leaving her to fend for herself. However, their attitudes towards each other soften after he burns his hand on a hot plate and she patches him up. She then starts teaching him how to survive in the facility. She shows him how to get a quick shower, and he returns her bed and blanket when he sees she is cold. She remains haunted by her odd memories of him, but does not ask him about it.
One day, the soldiers come into the cell to take Juliette away. It is revealed that Adam is a soldier and a spy, working for the Reestablishment, the totalitarian government regime. She is taken to Sector 45, where she meets its leader, Warner. He wants her to use her deadly touch to destroy the rebels in exchange for a life of ease and riches. While she is horrified by the idea, Warner wants her to see what her life could be like in the compound and assigns Adam as her bodyguard.
In the compound, Juliette finds herself with every comfort, but rebuffs Adam’s attempts to get her to cooperate with Warner. She later finds out that Adam was beaten by Warner for her refusal, and decides to play along for now, dressing up and looking for a way out. She finds the notebook she had in her cell and learns that Adam is really trying to help her. He is moved into her new apartment, and she learns that Adam can touch her without being hurt. The two of them become closer, eventually starting a romantic relationship. Warner continues to press Juliette to join his side. She is horrified by his brutal actions, such as his sacrifice of one of his own men to her poison touch. Warner continues to put Juliette through sadistic tests of her power, and she and Adam begin putting together a plan to escape. They make their run for it during a drill, but during their escape, it is revealed that Warner is immune to Juliette’s touch as well. They escape and find a tank Adam hid; they flee to his home. There, Juliette is introduced to Adam’s younger brother. Soon a soldier named Kenji seeks refuge in their home after being tortured by Warner for information. He tells them to flee. Soon soldiers arrive at the home seeking the fugitives. Juliette, Adam, James, and the injured Kenji flee, but they are caught, and Adam is shot.
Juliette is dragged off, and Warner proceeds to hit on her, expressing his excitement over being able to touch her. She steals his gun while he is distracted and shoots him. She flees and finds a badly injured, tortured Adam. They steal a car, rescue James and Kenji, and flee to a safe haven that Kenji knows. At the facility, the injured are treated and Juliette is sedated after becoming frantic. She wakes up to a man trying to ask her questions, but will not answer anything until she sees her friends. Kenji assures her that they are safe. Soon, she is taken by her guard, Winston, to meet Castle, the rebel leader. Castle informs her that this location is called Omega Point, a safe haven for people who have special abilities. She is one of fifty-six gifted people. Castle is another, having telekinesis. He is organizing a rebellion against The Reestablishment. She learns that Kenji can become invisible, and Winston can stretch his body. Adam is healed, and Juliette is given a suit that allows her to touch others. Armed with the suit and a new confidence in herself, Juliette is ready to join the resistance.
Qoutes
“My life is four walls of missed opportunities poured in concrete molds.” (Page 1)
-From the begging of the story Juliette Ferrars is a teenage girl locked in a cell at an asylum for a crime she accidentally committed years ago. She said that she is in the four walls and no one can hear her.
“Adam stares at me so long I begin to blush. He tips my chin up so I meet his eyes. Blue blue blue boring into me. His voice is deep, steady. "I don't think I've ever heard you laugh." (Page 1)
-In the story Adam look at her and she feels like she nervous she can’t understand her feeling that way and she always think that Adam would kill her. She never trusts Adam.
“All I ever wanted was to reach out and touch another human being not just with my hands but with my heart.” (Page 1)
-In the story she wanted dream like she can see outside and try to touch human with their hands.
“Raindrops are my only reminder that clouds have a heartbeat. That I have one, too.” (Page 2)
-She said that her room is heavy with the scent of wet stone, upturned soil; the air is dank and earthy. She takes a deep breath and tiptoe to the window only to press her nose against the cool surface. Feel my breath fog up the glass. Close my eyes to the sound of a soft pitter-patter rushing through the wind.
“You can't touch me," I whisper. I'm lying, is what I don't tell him. He can touch me, is what I'll never tell him. Please touch me, is what I want to tell him.” (Page 2)
-She wants Adam to touch her but she can’t tell this to Adam because she scared to Adam that time when they both in the darkness place to take a shower but she thinks that Adam could kill her in that place.
“I've been screaming for years and no one has ever heard me.” (Page 3)
-When Adam and Juliette is in the darkness place to take a shower, she taught that Adam will kill her but she is wrong Adam feel her safe and she said that quote line because no one can bring her to that place, no one can hear her. And because of her cellmates she realizes that there is man can hear her now.
“Hope is hugging me, holding me in its arms, wiping away my tears and telling me that today and tomorrow and two days from now I will be just fine and I'm so delirious I actually dare to believe it.”(Page 4)
-She is hoping that everyone can understand her that can hug her and comfort her because no one can see her even her family or parents.
“Someone picked up the sun and pinned it to the sky again, but every day it hangs a little lower than the day before. It's like a negligent parent who only knows one half of who you are. It never sees how its absence changes people. How different we are in the dark.” (Page 6)

Hello! I'm sorry, you've probably totally already answered a question like this but I can't find it. Do you know of ways a military would try to train their soldiers to be prepared for capture and torture? In modern times? Would they torture them and teach them to resist or something?
I can tell you whatthey do yes, but I’m afraid the evidence suggests it really does not work.
In fact the evidence wehave suggests that this sort of training may instead act as a way of transmitting and encouraging torturetechniques. That doesn’t mean that everyone who’s been through one of theseprograms turns into a torturer, but it does tend to have the unfortunate sideeffect of teaching them how to torture.
In the US theseprograms are set up as a sort of fake capture scenario. Soldiers have a day on‘patrol’ and are then ‘captured’. They’re hooded, separated from each other, sleep deprived, starved, dehydrated and beaten over a period of about 48 hours. They’re also shouted at a lot.
Morgan did a series ofrather wonderful studies on soldiers who went through this particularlypointless ‘training’. He split his soldiers into two groups, those that wentthrough a ‘high stress’ confrontational ‘interrogation’ involving slaps and verbalabuse, and a control group who instead got a calmer chat and a cup of tea.
Morgan then asked thesoldiers to identify their ‘interrogator’ the next day.
The ‘high stress’group, for the most part, couldn’t do it. In fact more than half of them identified the wrong person and were absolutely positive they were correct in their identification.(The figures were 51-68% wrongly identified, depending on the method of identificationused, compared to 12-38% wrongly identified in the control group).
This is a brilliantillustration of just how big the effects of torture on memory actually are. Thesubjects were volunteers, they knew what to expect, they were as far aspossible prepared. And the resultsspeak for themselves.
 These studies wereconducted in 2004.
Central to thisquestion is the definition of ‘resistance’.
There is no way to resist the damage tortureinflicts on the human brain. Problems with memory, psychological problems andchronic pain are unavoidable. They are normal.
But resistance totorturers is also normal.
If resistance isdefined as the refusal to give in a torturer’s demands rather than as immunity to natural psychological reactions totrauma- Then resistance is absolutely the norm.
Figures from historicalFrance show that on average only 10% of torture victims can be forced toconfess. 90% of people when tortured refuse to comply with their torturers longenough to write their name.
We don’t have figuresand statistics for so-called ‘enhanced interrogations’ but everything we knowabout torture and its effects on the human body and brain suggests that torturefundamentally can not make peoplegive up accurate information. The data we haveactually suggests that it makes people more likely to lie, become an entrenchedenemy of their torturer’s ‘side and resist by any means available.
There has never been a proven case of a victimgiving up accurate, timely information under torture.
And what this all meansis that programs that ‘train’ people to resist torture are utterly pointless. Theyare likely to give their trainees psychological problems and don’t doanything to enhance a human being’s natural and innate ability to withstandbrutality.
We don’t need training. We are already much much tougher than pop culture would have you believe.

The bell rang, signaling the end of class. The boys and I were quick to pack up our belongings before making a beeline for Mr.
"You're very welcome, Y/n," He returned the smile, seeming appreciative of the fact that at least one of us said 'Thank you'.
"Yes, sir."
"Yeah."
"Yes."

For a brief moment, the woods were lit up by lightning in the distance as thunder bellowed across the sky.
We whipped around to find a girl, with a buzz cut, wearing nothing but 'Benny's Burgers' T-shirt. We all stood there, mouths agape at this girl, shivering and cowering in fear.
