Indians Sweep Twins.
Twins 2 Indians 5 W-Clase (3-1) L-Duran (0-2)
The Minnesota Twins bats have went cold during this five-game losing streak. They looked to avoid the sweep and get back to their winning ways today in Cleveland. The Indians were ready early as Tyler Freeman reached on an infield single to start the game. Andres Gimenez followed and smacked a Chris Paddack fastball out to right for a two-run homer. This put the Indians up by a pair after an inning of play. The Twins would answer in the third when Jose Miranda smashed a Tanner Bibee fastball out to left for a solo homer. Minnesota pulled within a run after three frames. Meanwhile, Tanner Bibee was dominant with seven solid innings of work. Hunter Gaddis had a 1-2-3 eighth and Emmanuel Clase got into some trouble in the ninth. Ryan Jeffers was clipped in the elbow by a pitch and Willi Castro reached on a fielder's choice. Alex Kirilloff hit a routine groundball to first base, but Emmanuel Clase dropped the throw from Josh Naylor. Byron Buxton ran all the way home on the play to tie the game at two. The Indians would respond in the bottom of the ninth as Andres Gimenez walked and Josh Naylor was intentionally walked. Will Brennan then smoked a Jhoan Duran curveball out to right for a walk-off three-run home run and the Indians swept the Twins this weekend.
-Final Thoughts- Chris Paddack was great today, but didn't get much run support. He went eight innings and allowed two runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Jhoan Duran gave up the three-run homer to Will Brennan in the ninth. The Twins scattered four hits and went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. They left six men on base. The team designated Jay Jackson for assignment and called up Caleb Boushley. The Twins will now head to the nation's capital to play the Nationals this week. Pablo Lopez will face Mitchell Parker in the series opener tomorrow night.

Precursors To Cyberpunk, part 2
William Gibson: "You could say that Cyberpunk is postmodern science fiction. It's a lot more postmodern than the old science fiction was. But science fiction is a very - I'm speaking of the American science fiction industry - it's been traditionally a reactionary literary form. A form in which you weren't encouraged to develop as a stylist. Or to investigate any of the things that were happening in the world of literature. And one of the things, so-called cyberpunk writers have done, either consciously or unconsciously, is to look around at the world outside. Look at the fine arts as well and import whatever they could use into the literary ghetto of science fiction."
-Cyberpunk (Documentary, 1990)
Although Gibson says that you are encouraged not to develop a style by reading other texts, it is clear when you read Cyberpunk novels, that the authors are aware of science fiction and postmodern literature. Awareness breeds influence. Even if they rebel against the ideas, it still affects their style.
Postmodern Novels
Postmodern literature plays games with structure and narrative. Using language to disorient. They are also generally pessimistic about the future, which is it's biggest influence on Cyberpunk.
Here is a list of influential postmodern fiction and the techniques they use to entertain and make political statements..
Inconsistent Narrator:
William Gaddis' "The Recognitions (1955)" It isn't always apparent who is speaking. You have to guess is speaking by conversation style and content. Eventually the characters shift, and change names.
Non-Linear Structure:
William S. Burroughs' "Naked Lunch (1959)" is a series of scenes meant to be read in any order. It also features heavy drug use and an alter ego for the author.
Fragmented Narrative:
Joseph Heller's "Catch-22 (1961)" breaks the storyline up between the points of view of several soldiers during the second world war. It differs from non-linear narrative in that it tells the story in chronological order.
Black Humor:
Anthony Burgess' "A Clockwork Orange (1962)" makes light of serious subjects often too serious to talk about. In this case, it is the subject of brainwashing, institutionalization and propaganda.
Metafiction:
Vladimir Nabokov's "Pale Fire (1962)" is a 999 line poem. Told from the point of view of a fictional author and his editor. Notes from the editor calls attention to the fact that you are reading a book.
Alternative History:
Phillip K. Dick's "The Man In The High Castle (1962)" dramatitizes what would have happened if the Nazis and the Japanese would have won World War II.
Intertextuality:
Jean Rhys' "Wide Sargasso Sea (1966)" reinterprets Jane Eyre, from the point of view of Mr. Rochester's mad wife, Antoinette Cosway. WSS is a feminist and anti-colonial criticism and satire of old literature.
Paranoia:
Thomas Pynchon's "The Crying of Lot 49 (1966)" is about a woman who discover's an underground mail delivery service that may or may not be a hoax. It is the shortest of Pynchon's novels, and is the logical place to start if anyone wishes to delve into his work.
Magical Realism:
Gabriel Garcia Marquez' "One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967)" is about the history of the Buendia family in the fictional town, Macondo. The story is based in reality, but adds in magical elements from mystical dreams to ghosts.
Historiographic Metafiction:
John Fowles' "The French Lieutenant's Woman (1969)" is a novel about 19th century period pieces. It follows the typical tropes and conventions of the classical novel. Until the author and narrator becomes a character in the novel..
Roman á Clef, or a novel about real life, told fictitiously:
Hunter S. Thompson's "Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas (1971)" a story about Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo, who are really HST and his lawyer, as they set out to report on a motorcycle race, but end up telling a story about the downfall of 60's counterculture and the American dream.
Sexual Revolution Consequences:
J.G. Ballard's "Crash (1973)" is about characters that are turned on by car crashes. The subject of the story wants to die in a car crash with Elizabeth Taylor..
Pastiche:
Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow (1973)" is a mix of Genres and subjects. From rocket science, pop culture, literature, and movie references, physics, free will vs. determinism, sexual exploits and paranoia...
Fictionalized History:
Robert Coover's "The Public Burning (1977)" a satirical telling of the execution of soviet spies Joe and Ethel Rosenberg, from the point of view of the sympathetic protagonist Richard Nixon. It is a satire of 1950's McCarthy politics.
Frame Story (a form of metafiction):
Italo Calvino's "if on a winter's night a traveller (1979)" splits 10 chapters into 2 parts. The first of two parts is about the reader, from the second person pov. The second part is the story, that you are reading. Prevailing themes are the subjectivity of meaning, the act of reading and writing and it's necessity and absurdity..
Coincidence Driven Plot:
Kathy Acker's "Blood and Guts In High School (1984) a collage of styles and random events. Combining metafiction, letters, dream webs, sexual drawings, short poems, and more. The story seems to be about sexual oppression.. I guess.
Unconventional Narrator:
Joan Didion's "Democracy (1984)" is about Inez Victor, wife of U.S. Senator Harry Victor. But it's narrated by the author herself, who struggles with the material and the writing itself..
Postmodern novels also use irony, circular logic, wordplay and witticisms, symbolism and figurative language at a micro level.
The objective of postmodern lit is to make political statements. It is also commenting on the emptiness of modern culture. Many say the problem with postmodernism is that it doesn't offer any solutions..
That is postmodern literature up until the time of William Gibson's seminal novel "Neuromancer (1984)." Next, I will post an overview of the best cyberpunk novels of the 80's and early 90's. Cyberpunk's golden age..

Sooooo camp camp has recently taken over my life (also somebody please find me some good fics for this fandom, I'm running out) and I found out that there's a dog au for cc as well, so I decided to put my own spin on it and put my own two cents in as to what breed might match who. Let's start with David. David is a pharoah hound. The pharoah hound is playful, affectionate, alert, and active as well as good with kids. All of the above are what makes David David. In addition to the personality of the breed, they are also thin and wiry, which is also a trait of David. Gwen is a chocolate doberman Pinscher. Hear me out. Dobermans have a reputation of being aggressive and some can have a bitey issue (but as I say with pit bulls, it's not the dog's fault, it's the owner's), but they are also known for being good with kids and gentle. Gwen is seen as being both, gentle when it calls for it or snappy. I personally prefer the chocolate coloration for her because it appeals to her own color scheme, which is of warm and cool browns, which is similiar to that of the doberman. Additionally, her body shape is similiar to that of David's, tall and thin, which is characteristic of both breeds. Max is a Gaddi Kutta, which is an Indian mastiff type dog similiar to the Tibetan Mastiff. They are hunters-turned-shepherds and are intelligent, gentle, calm, and territorial. The same can be said for Max, with the exception of gentle. Additionally, I liked how many others in this au made Max a fluffy black and tan, which is a common coloration for the Gaddi Kutta. They're also fluffy. Also I just really love fluffy grumps. I really wanted to stay true to his heritage, which has been hinted to be Indian, and the Gaddi Kutta comes from Northern India. Neil is a Canaan dog, a pariah dog from the Middle East. In all honesty, I googled Jewish dog breeds and found them. And I fell in love with one in particular which looked so nervous that I instantly connected him with Neil. Neil is just an incredible character who's very intelligent, which is a characteristic of this breed. Additionally, the breed is from the same region that the Jews arose from, and I, again, wanted to stay true to the character's historical and racial background, even when converted to dog form. Nikki was the easiest of the group. She is a curly coated retriever, which is a friendly, active, and curly coated breed. She is friendly, active, and has distinctive curly hair. 'Nuff said. Daniel, although not seen here, would likely be a Ibizan hound. Mostly for the reason of they look almost exactly like the pharoah hound but have the capability of a white coat, but also because of their alertness and unnerving, piercing stare. Absolutely stunning dogs. (It's totally not also because i found a funny picture of one jumping and thought of how Daniel jumped ahead of himself and drank the kool-aid.)

Indians Rally Late To Take Opener.
Twins 2 Indians 3 W-Herrin (2-0) L-Duran (0-1) SV-Clase (13)
The Minnesota Twins had a tough week after getting swept by the Yankees. The team headed back out on the road to play the Indians in Cleveland tonight. The Twins found some offense in the third as Alex Kirilloff smacked a Triston McKenzie fastball out to right for a solo home run. Meanwhile, Simeon Woods Richardson and Triston McKenzie duked it out in a pitcher's duel. The Indians found some offense in the fifth as Josh Naylor reached on a fielder's choice. David Fry followed and smacked a Steven Okert slider out to left for a two-run homer to put Cleveland on top. Triston McKenzie finished off 6 2/3 solid innings and Hunter Gaddis got out of a jam in the seventh. The Twins answered in the eighth when Jose Miranda reached on a one-out single to right. Austin Martin pinch-ran and stole second base. Later in the inning, Kyle Farmer delivered a pinch-hit run-scoring double to left to tie the game at two apiece. The Indians countered in the bottom of the eighth as Jose Ramirez smoked a Jhoan Duran curveball out to right for a solo home run. Cleveland took a 3-2 lead into the ninth inning. Emmanuel Clase had a 1-2-3 ninth and the Indians took the series opener tonight.
-Final Thoughts- Simeon Woods Richardson was solid tonight with 5 1/3 very good innings. He gave up a run on four hits with two strikeouts. Steven Okert gave up a the homer to David Fry and got out of the sixth, Griffin Jax fanned two in the seventh, and Jhoan Duran gave up the go-ahead homer to Jose Ramirez in the eighth. The Twins scattered four hits and went 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position. They left four men on base. Tomorrow, Bailey Ober will face Logan Allen in Game 2. Byron Buxton should be activated before the game tomorrow.
