The evolution of the ML from "I'll go along with this contract marriage to see what her real plan is" to "If anything happens to FL I will kill everyone in this country and then myself" was... something. Lolol

I still wish they didn't keep the FL ignorant of how ML achieved the ~happily ever after~ behind her back. But overall, it was a cute(?) ending. And apparently, it was even more drastic in the og novel ;;;

I’m in Love with the Villainess Reaction

Episode 8

Okay, so we have Rae giving the political exposition. The game is called Revolution for a reason so of course there’s a lot of actual politics.

Oops, Rae, you almost broke character there. It’s tricky to discuss such things without it leading to a fight or alienation.

Wait, is that Lily? Yes! I was hoping they’d show her early since we’re not got to that particular arc this season. Even if it’s just a brief appearance, I’ll take it!

His wounds have to be pretty bad if this is what he’s like after receiving healing magic.

Can’t blame him for being cynical of the knights after a noble attacked him.

Look, Matt’s an idiot. We know that since he tries to talk to people while they’re working or on a date. So I can imagine him saying something stupidly provocative out loud when tensions are high, but Dede shouldn’t have butted in in the first place without Yu’s permission. And it certainly wasn’t his place to defend someone else’s “honour” when they weren’t even there to speak for themselves. Dede should never have talked to Matt, and he definitely shouldn’t have pulled out his wand.

I’m on Yu’s side. The Princes, all Royals really, should be more mindful of the voices of the people, otherwise they can’t effectively govern for them.

Ugh, I’m with Rae. The commoners have the most reason to be upset and Rae is expected to talk to them about the grievances while maintaining neutrality as a Knight. Those aren’t going to be fun conversations.

The Bauers are just like “Do it, Claire, we need her for this.”

That sentence is bullshit. Even if it was an accident, Dede still drew his wand on another student, and they were severely injured because of it. If he’d only just threatened him with the wand and no one was hurt, a week on house arrest might still be going easy on him.

On one side, there are the nobles who think they are entitled to step on the commoners all they want and be above the law. On the other, the commoners are sick of the mistreatment and unequal application of the law. And in the middle, the Church seemingly playing to both sides to look after its own interests.

The less I say about Yu’s mother, Queen Riche, the better.

Look at Claire, taking care of Ralaire and putting her in her pocket.

Uh-oh, Rae’s using her serious voice.

While everyone else was scratching their heads, Rae knew exactly what this sequence of events meant and what they’d eventually lead up to. But before she can deal with the plot, she wanted Claire out of harm’s way. After all, making sure Claire gets her happy ending is Rae’s ultimate goal, and she would rather her out of harm’s way as much as possible.

Now is our favourite masked weirdo’s time to shine.

“I don’t have proof, but I know everything.” It’s surprising how effective it is when Rae demonstrates knowledge that she logically shouldn’t be able to obtain, like Lambert’s true motive.

If you go back to that last conversation they had, there was more being communicated between Rae and Lene than what was said. Rae was begging Lene to stay with Claire and not try to save Lambert. I guess her sisterly like love for Claire was no match for what she and Lambert share.

And the hero of the day is Ralaire.

It was fun seeing people speculate what role the Masked Stranger had in the plot, but the truth is he wasn’t in the game Rae played at all. She doesn’t know everything after all. This was inevitable, a game has only so much content, so many characters and respective roles, but this is a whole world. There’s more here than Rae could possibly know about.

Ugh, time magic. That’s got to be cheating.

She’s just been betrayed by her oldest, dearest friend, but Claire still wants to help Lene.

Okay, that water bubble, the princess carry, the landing, that was pretty cool.

Yes, yes, we know, Claire. Rae’s magic is ludicrously OP, and even now she can’t resist a chance to flirt.

That said, Rae has her limits. She doesn’t have Rod’s insane magical reserves and I know that spell was one of her most powerful, and draining.

The problem with Chimera is that they have three attributes. Fire for the head, earth for the body, and water for the tail. We even see it use its tail to block Claire’s fire earlier. And each body part is naturally resistant to its respective element, which also happen to be the three elements Rae and Claire possess between the two of them. What I’m saying they’re at a considerable disadvantage.

I knew we were dangerously close to running out of time this episode. Guess we’ll have to see the epic conclusion of this fight next episode.

Just to be clear, this Chimera is more of a mid-game boss. There’s plenty of story after this, though we’re only going to get one more arc before the season is over. In fact, by the end of next episode, the mystery girl in the OP everyone’s wondering about should finally make her appearance.

WIP Wednesday

I was tagged by @wanderingaldecaldo to share some stuff I'm working on so AU rambling it is!

(Also I just realized that I am once again so behind on keeping up with my mentions and asks. I need more hours in the day. 😭)

So as some of y'all know, I am a long-time Tomb Raider super fan, and facets of OG Lara Croft almost always influence my OCs because she is just goals. Valerie was no exception here--Her canon street style and effortlessly cool and tough yet elegant vibes were very much inspired by the one and only Lady Croft.

When I realized that across these three mods (one, two, three) I could make a Tomb Raider Underworld-inspired outfit for Valerie, that just became my sole reason for living for like six hours.

Initially, I wasn't planning on delving into a story or anything with the shots--I just wanted to play with some Tomb Raider-esque settings to get a little break from the high-tech/low-life urban setting to refresh the muse--But then I realized this could actually be the perfect setting to explore another idea I had been sitting on for a while.

I had wanted to play with a Yakuza!Goro AU for some time now (turning to a life of organized crime if Arasaka hadn't picked him up has always seemed like something that could have been in the realm of possibility based on the little bit he shares about his childhood), and Lara does get tangled up with some Yakuza shenanigans in some storylines so 💡💡💡 Treasure Hunter/Yakuza AU: I Only Play for Sport (based on Lara's iconic one-liner in the intro of the 1996 game) was officially born!

Work has been nuts the past few weeks, and I didn't really feel like trying to figure out how to mod tats on Goro myself, so I asked the wonderful @86maylin if she was up for a private commission. Luckily, she was. 🙏🙏🙏 (Thank you again, May!)

This has also been another journey into building with AMM--I have a few very specific scenes in mind, and I wanted them to be in totally original settings created specifically for this AU instead of defaulting to my usual locations (like Hanako's estate).

To kick that off, I decided I wanted to make a little living space for Goro. I got a lot of good practice building a stage, essentially, when I did the little villainess shoot a little while ago, so I felt pretty confident that I could put together something loosely inspired by the Tokyo penthouse Lara visits in Tomb Raider Legend.

That game is almost 20 years old now, though, so the assets there were obviously very limited, and I wanted to make something a little more complete and cozy for Goro's home base, as it were. I'm still not finished with it (maybe like 75% of the way there), but I'm pretty happy with the progress:

And another huge thank you to @bnbc and @arasakas-ronin for y'all's prop packs because they have done a lot to add some of that cool-artifact-treasure-hunting goodness to the scene. (I've used a lot but I think this toy set and this decor set were most prominently used.)

And as for the story itself?

Well, no one's here for the plot, right? 😅

I am slowly working on a couple of photostories inspired by some scenes in the Tomb Raider movies and games, and I have a general gist of the premise: Valerie is a wealthy heiress with a fondness for adventure and recovering lost artifacts with presumed supernatural abilities, and Goro is the right-hand man of a Yakuza boss who has a similar interest in such artifacts. They end up having their sights set on the same artifact (currently unknown to me, lmao, although I am very aware of the issues with the genre when it comes to, yanno, glorifying white Westerners stealing shit from other cultures so I want to be mindful that I don't fall into that same pitfall) and sexy rival treasure hunter shenanigans ensue.

So this is what I've been working on! It's a total pet project, I'm so excited about it, and I figured the time between now and Phantom Liberty coming out would be the best time to just go ham with photomode and mods and create a totally self-indulgent crossover that combines my great video game loves.

And one last thing before I shut up, because I wanna share how Tomb Raider has always been a part of Valerie's background: her surname, Powell, was inspired by Manfred Powell, the antagonist in the 2001 Tomb Raider movie. Bonus fact: I used the name "Nishimura" in this photo story, which is also the name of two characters in the Tomb Raider universe (Lara's friend Toru Nishimura in Legend and her girlfriend Sam Nishimura in the 2013 reboot.)

This free visual novel was an absolute joy to play, with very funny&witty dialogue. Each character felt alive with their varied vocabularies and various texting styles. I chose to romance Orlam and the whole ride was fun, romantic and in the end quite sweet. It's not very difficult, I beat it on my first try. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a short funny romance that relies on wit, with zero needless fanservice.

The Prince in His Dark Days: It's been a while since I've read it, but I remember it being a miserable girl who suddenly switches places with a rich guy so that he can live more true to himself. Has a sad tone a lot of the time but a happy ending.

Penguin Revolution: Main character crossdresses so she can be an actor's manager. She's sweet and determined. I don't remember a lot that happens in it though?

Cross-Dressing Villainess Cecilia Sylvie(ongoing): Very beautiful art. Just stunning. Seems like she's developing a reverse harem. Her boobs are too big for her to be wrapping cloth/bandages around her chest without any problems, though. This is a reincarnated into a villainess manga, so it's interesting seeing the limits to what the main character knows about this world compared to what happens.

have u read happy ending for the limited time villainess? i think a lot of it is p standard fare, but i like the dynamic between mc and ml. very "wants 2 think she's logical but is kind of stupid" and "hiding excessive amounts of doting under the pretense of fulfilling his duties" . idiot/idiot romance

Not gonna lie that's the one where I was like. well I hated the first 10 chapters so I'm gonna skip to chapter 40 just for the hell of it. to me it's a lot more readable when you're in the middle of a lot of developments and established plot/character stuff because all I remember from the first 10 chapters was being really irked that one of the staff looked literally exactly like the love interest and nobody referenced it and it wasn't plot-relevant. am I going insane? am I having a stroke? am I being gaslit by the artist? they're the same guy

I really love the RPG mechanics of this one. XD Also, I really love angst even if the ending has a possibility of making me cry like Karina’s Last Days.

Summary Our main girl died. Oopsy. But so did the villainess, before fulfilling her demon contract. So in exchange for a free life afterwards, our girl just has to be married for six months to the ML, since that was what the OG villainess wished for. But also the poison that killed her really messed up her stats. She can see her debuff statuses and HP bar at all times. Lol. She keeps comparing herself to that one Mola Mola game (honestly I wonder how relevant that reference is now)

Tropes - this is just a contract marriage he/she would never love me - our main character has literally been dying from chapter 1

FL - Clea Rino (but not really)

- poor girl didn’t ask for this but got dragged in by the demon king because ~nice timing~ - 100% oblivious to ML’s love - the OG villainess’s backstory is also rather depressing i cry

ML - Isaac Detroi

- poor man got involved in the plot and now he’s in love with a corpse (technically) - so overprotective when he learns about her status, man literally carpets his whole garden bruh wtf

Rating: Loved this so much I spent real life money Status (as of 11 July 2023) 100% complete with epilogue side stories~

Summary::

The body’s owner had made a contract with the demon king but died right after. She was given 6 months to fulfill the wish of living a life happily married to the man the body’s owner loved. However, there were problems that didn’t become known until she after agreed to the deal. First, her body is so weak and frail that walking can cause her to break down and cough up blood. Second, she is known throughout high society as a notorious villainess. And third, her target is the coveted handsome war hero Grand Duke. Piece of cake right? Time to live as Clea… but what if this strict business starts to include heart?

My Notes:: Oh boy! The humor in this is great!! FL is a freakin sunfish and is pitifully weak and sick but she makes such a joke out of it that it’s not annoying. She hates it as much as we do! XD she’s strong mentally and pretty clever as well even though she has to live with the huge handicap being her broken body. ML absolutely spoils her rotten, first without feelings then he catches them and starts spoiling her and being over protective. Parts of the story are a little slow at times and the plot can drag a little but not enough to stop read (at least not for me). The art is a little quirky but consistent. Overall enjoyable story and I’m wondering how it’s gonna end!
