MagiRevo Volume 6 Thoughts
Back again with everyone’s favourite royal couple. This time we learn about Lainie’s mother and meet more vampire. There’s also a lot more action compared to previous volumes. And we finally address the inconvenient fact that Euphie and Lainie are effectively immortal, and their lovers are not.
You know the drill, spoilers are below.
Okay, so Ruella, from the prologue, total tsundere. I’m making my prediction now that she is actually into this Tiris girl.
From what we’ve heard, vampires in this world are basically brainwashed into continuing the research of their predecessors. Doesn’t seem like Ruella has ever even questioned why she and the clan should pursue “eternity” for the sake of some dead people.
I’m with Tiris, why seek eternity, when you can make the most of the time you have to do something that is actually meaningful to yourself?
‘Tis a bit of a shame, but I suppose Anis had to grow used to Euphie’s shows of affection sooner or later. She’s even reciprocating them of her own initiative. Even so, I guarantee Euphie is still the top in this relationship.
Why is Tilty gloomier because of the rain? Pretty sure she’s so adverse to being in direct sunlight, it’d make the uninformed question who is the actual vampire of their friend group.
In conclusion, it took only three months for them to make Lainie kind of OP in both swordplay and magic. If all vampires had just as much potential in general, and a lot more than three months to hone their skills, they’d be able to give even Euphie trouble.
We had a good balance in the detached palace. 4 girls, 2 couples. Royal couple attended to by the maid couple. I’m not too eager to see that change.
Interesting to think about, Ilia chose to be as reclusive as Anis and isn’t too fond of bringing in more people.
It’s not something I’m interested in, however I will say there may be a potential ship with Garkie and Navre.
Excited we are getting more Lainie and Tilty, sad that we’re splitting up our couples.
And of course, Euphie threatens Anis with a good time when she gets back.
I see Anis is still not comfortable with PDA, even though compared to Euphie’s coronation, a small peck in front of their friends is nothing.
Lainie’s mother is Tiris from the prologue? The plot thickens.
Tilty’s guess about a disease that affects vampires might have been on the money, but it’s early still.
Wow, Lainie actually went there. The anime touched on it but the novels haven’t really done so yet. The issue of how Euphie is immortal, and Anis isn’t. She was already willing to throw away her humanity in pursuit of magic, so doing so to extend her time with Euphie isn’t a huge leap for her.
As for Lainie, not surprised she’s already thinking about Ilia’s mortality. The considerable age gap aside, Ilia’s close to 30 already, and the average life expectancy in their world is probably shorter than what we take for granted.
Must be nice to at least have the option of extending your life, even if it means throwing away your humanity. In our world without magic or monsters, we just have to make the most of the time we have.
Makes sense that Anis quit adventuring. Now that her work has official support, she no longer needs to acquire her own funding and materials. Plus, her wife would never allow her to continue going off on her own.
Well, I wasn’t expecting this level of horror, not in this series. I’d expect this from some of the other series I’m into, but wasn’t expecting MagiRevo to hit me with this kind of body horror six volumes in.
I came here expecting vampires, and got an abomination that is an amalgamation of countless lifeforms that the vampire apparently consumed. Guess we know where all the monsters and animals in the forest went.
Everything about this encounter feels so messed up. We started with flaming horned guy trying to kill Anis and Garkie, to now mourning him and all he lost. We don’t even know his name!
So Ilia is resistant to the idea of becoming a vampire because then Lainie can’t feed off her blood? Fair point, I can respect that.
I had a guess we’d see Ruella again, but this is far from what I pictured originally.
So what happens after generations of brainwashing and overzealously accumulating knowledge, the vampires inevitably made a monster that is a reflection of how twisted and mad they’ve become.
They called Tiris a heretic and traitor, but she was probably the only sane one among them. However, Ruella did say she was exceptional enough to potentially become the matriarch of the clan, so perhaps Lainie really is OP, not because she is a vampire, but because she inherited her mother’s exceptionalism.
Anis lesbian-ed so hard she made the villainess instantly fall for her. Normally I’d be for this kind of development if Lilana wasn’t all the more determined to devour Anis especially. Nobody makes a meal out of our Anis, except Euphie!
Euphie finally had a chance to show off again, and it started out totally awesome, kind of reminded me of Weiss’ Arma Gigas summon. Then it backfired and we found out this girl can just absorb magic. I call hacks!
Anis did talk about throwing her humanity away to become immortal, but I didn’t think such a change would be forced on her. Guess the dragon’s prophecy was spot on, Anis really did become a dragon, albeit still in human form, with some vampiric powers thrown in for good measure.
Props to Anis for trying to give Lilana an out. I’ve been around the internet enough to know there are indeed people who’d be down for what she’s offering.
And of course for her final move, Lilana decides to turn into a freaking dragon, too. Anis, pretty sure that one’s on you this time.
I’m fine if she and the other vampires like her devour monsters, but leave the poor animals alone!
So Lilana stole Euphie’s move and made it her own, then Anis takes that same improvised move, puts her own spin on it and uses it to finally take down Lilana. Brilliant! Anis beat her at her own game!
Of all the shocks and twists this volume, the biggest might be Anis pulling a Euphie on Euphie herself. She’s certainly gotten bolder but she still doesn’t hold a candle to Euphie. We’re talking about the girl who used her coronation speech to declare her love and made out with Anis in front of all the attendants. We know who’s the top in this relationship and Euphie will no doubt remind Anis of that fact later, and they’ll both enjoy it.
With a battle like that, it almost feels like a finale of sorts but there’s still a lot of loose ends. There’s Ruella and the other vampires. Would also love to get a follow up on if any of the demi-human clans are still around. I do not want to think about the possibility that Acryl is probably the last of her kind.
We also don’t know how Tiris died, which poses an unknown risk to Lainie, Algard, and possibly even Anis.
Also it goes without saying I want to know what’s up with the changes to Anis’ body and what the reactions will be.
Well, at least I know how long I have to wait this time. The official translation for Volume 7 is apparently dropping in late July. So see you all again in about 4 months.

She’s so Cheeky for a Commoner Volume 2 Thoughts
I’m back, and incidentally, I’m still be doing I’m in Love with the Villainess content. For clarification, She’s so Cheeky for a Commoner is a spin-off series that follows Claire’s point of view of the many events early in the series. However, it is not a complete retelling of the series, it only retells certain key moments, while sprinkling in entirely new scenes, new characters and story arcs, as well as occasionally giving the perspectives of different characters. It does not serve as a substitute for the original light novels, and you should still read those first if you don’t want to be spoiled.
Anyway, this particular book only covers Chapters 4 through 6 from the original series, with Chapters 7 and 8 presumably being covered in Volume 3. Spoilers below.
Starting off, we have the Scales of Love arc. My first point of interest was how much more conscious Claire was of Rae’s change of behaviour, and yet so oblivious to the cause.
The first big change is the conversation with Loretta and Pepi about their doubts and suspicions about Manaria. To be fair, those two didn’t become actual characters until the manga fleshed them out. Interestingly, they actually asked Rae for her opinion and took her observation into careful consideration. Turns out, Loretta also had another more personal reason why she was weary of Manaria.
Follow that up with Rae nearly dying in Claire’s arms and her going off at her precious Manaria for it. She seemed harsher here than in the anime.
It makes sense that after the “breakup” the first person to truly get a chance to console Claire without any ulterior motive would be Catherine. They are roommates after all. Also, we finally get to see what Catherine looks like. She’s so adorably and sweet, it’s all the more unacceptable that the rest of her family (who will likely be the death of her) are all complete scumbags and criminals. So Catherine manages to convince Claire to patch things up with Rae, unfortunately, while this conversation was happening, Manaria was escalating things yet again.
Personally, I think the anime did the confession best. Actually, my last post was a reblog of that scene.
Okay, so Claire is being congratulated and teased by Misha, the Princes and the minions. First interesting thing, we’re establishing the Rod is already into Rae and intends to pursue her but is letting Claire have her turn, I guess. Second interesting thing, everyone assuming it is a given that Rod will snatch Rae from Claire. To be fair, it is assumed at this point that Rod will be King, and none of them could imagine that Rae has such a fundamentally different view on marriage than the rest of them.
So now we enter that very weird stage in Rae and Claire’s relationship. They’ve finally acknowledged that Rae’s feelings are genuine and are requited, but they’re not actually together-together, yet. In Claire’s case, the issue is that all her social conditioning is telling her it is always the guy to make all the moves.
Apparently, Claire can get anxious whenever Rae acts overly familiar with anybody of the opposite gender. She knows Rae is gay, and will never fall for a man, but she doesn’t want any of them getting the wrong idea and thinking they can hit on her Rae.
Okay, so Loretta is also in love with Claire. I’m not surprised that so many characters are in love with our protagonists, but I find it somewhat comical that the canonically bi one only has other women falling for her, and it’s the lesbian who happens to also attract men. Claire is such a girl magnet, she might give even Manaria a run for her money if she really tried.
Also, unsurprisingly, Pepi has fallen for Loretta. Looks like that ship still has a chance to sail.
Dole is a master strategist and he knows Claire well. Even if Rae didn’t tell him, he would know Claire has a growing interest in anything to do with Rae. He likely acted the way he did on the trip to Euclid to intentionally make Claire feel she couldn’t stay in their summer home, and make spending the night with the Taylor’s seem all the more appealing. An underhanded and effective way for Claire to get first-hand experience on what life as a commoner is really like.
One thing the original novels didn’t touch on was what Rae Taylor was like before she met Claire. I know the manga has been exploring what BC Rae was like. My impression is she was a lot like the Pope, Clarice. A very stark contrast to how the present Rae acts, it’s no wonder the minions were so confused. It is a wonder why Misha never questioned it sooner.
I feel like this whole chapter was more for Loretta and Pepi’s development. There wasn’t much going on on Claire’s part we weren’t already aware of.
One of the more interesting developments is Pepi being tutored by Misha on using siren magic. There is no way they are proposing the idea of using a magical instrument to boost Pepi’s magic without following through. Considering the potential consequences, Pepi is not likely to use it unless Loretta is in imminent danger, and the only major conflict left is the revolution, so that’s concerning.
There were hints of it earlier, but now it is confirmed we have a human trafficking conspiracy, and of course poor Catherine’s family is in the centre of it. It doesn’t even seem like they are trying too hard to hide it so it’s only a matter of time before their house of cards crumbles. The only problem with that is just like with what happened to the Aurousseau’s, typically in this world the whole family is punished for the same crimes regardless of their involvement. If Claire were to decide to take matters into her own hands, that a-hole, Clément wouldn’t hesitate to use Catherine as a human shield, figuratively and literally.
Enter everyone’s third favourite character, who apparently can never catch a break, Lily.
And now we’ve found out that Pepi’s father is part of the aforementioned conspiracy. Which means now I have to worry about her AND Catherine, AND Loretta since her fiance that her family set her up with is also in the thick of this mess. As much as Pepi is worried about her father, I say he should go to hell with the rest of them. Pepi should worry more about herself (and her future wife).
Wait, wait, wait. If even Catherine, who is viewed as less than a pawn by her family, knows about Yu, how well kept is this secret? Could Yu’s potential reign have been any more compromised? If the royal family wasn’t already screwed by Dole’s schemes, what Rae did would have been considered a huge favour to them.
As Catherine rightly points out, Claire has yet to make her own confession, which is a huge part of why her relationship with Rae is stalling.
Hold on, did we ever establish before if Lily’s alter ego had a name? Okay, I just checked and in Lambert’s part in the previous volume, he did refer to the nasked stranger as Alter. It’s been a year since I read that and the name doesn’t appear anywhere else so I’m not surprised I forgot.
I would not be surprised if Salas was using the Achard’s human trafficking operation for his supply of test subjects. Bastard was doing all sorts of human experimentation, so he had to get his victims somehow.
It took me a moment to realise where Misha’s train of thought was going, but I will grant her it makes a lot of sense for what little she knows. I actually wouldn’t have held it against her if she turned Rae in. Rae might not have either. Claire definitely would have, though.
One thing I’m glad they addressed even if it didn’t occur to me, how does Rae cast antidote magic without a wand? She’s in prison, she shouldn’t have a wand, but apparently Dole pulled some strings on the sly. Anything for his partner-in-crime/future daughter-in-law.
As for the Misaki vision, since I finished the series, I’ve actually suspected that was TAIM’s doing, since she’s pulled similar stunts before.
And as soon as Claire returns from visiting Rae, she immediately wants to declare war on Queen Riche. Which I’d be down with. That bitch got a better ending than she deserved.
Volume 3 will probably be the last. Will Pepi and Loretta get together? Will Catherine finally be freed from her family of criminals? Will the Achard’s finally get their comeuppance? And what the hell was Claire up to during the whole revolution chapter since she ditched Rae?

I’m in Love with the Villainess Reaction
Episode 12 / Finale
I feel like they could have skipped the OP and just showed the title like so many other shows.
Guess they don’t plan on leaving us in limbo, they skipped straight to Manaria’s confrontation.
Seriously, Manaria, you’re the one who was trying to drive Rae away and now you’re mad at her because you succeeded. Like I get what you were doing, but maybe opening this test of yours up with a magic duel of all things wasn’t your best approach. You beat her so badly and completely you crushed her spirit.
Her methods aside, at least we’re getting to the heart of the issue now. Rae’s love for Claire is not as selfless as she claims, how could it be? She wants Claire to love her back, to be in a relationship with her but she was afraid of being rejected.
In many ways, Manaria and Rae are similar, which is part of why Manaria knows she can’t leave Rae alone, lest she make the same mistake she did.
I hate to say it, but after everything that happened, this had to be the last card Manaria could play. Claire’s safety and wellbeing is still Rae’s priority. The only reason she could even imagine leaving Claire’s side is because she knows Manaria could protect her from any threat, even if that threat is Claire herself. But if Manaria is the one who becomes the threat…
“Again, I wasn’t consulted.” Look, Claire, you were free to step in at any time but you let this play out. You allowed your affection for Manaria to blind you, but everyone else from your minions to the Princes knew what was going on.
Sorry, Claire, you’re too late to stop this and Rae doesn’t have the time to idle about, not with what she’s looking for.
Ah, the tediousness of farming for that ultra rare drop.
Claire kept that necklace Rae gave her the entire time. In fact, she’s been wearing it everyday since. It’s proof that she wants to believe in Rae’s love, if only she wasn’t given so many reasons to doubt.
Woah, woah, woah, that vision of the future! They didn’t just include the two together, and their house, they also showed the twins! Don’t tease me like that, I want to see it all in anime form! If only the odds for a second season weren’t so low, this wouldn’t hurt so much!
Damn, Rae is going all in and all out. That line made more sense in my head.
Yes, Claire, tell us how you really feel! None of this will matter if you’re not even honest with yourself or with Rae.
All those damn expectations of being a noble lady. Let’s be frank, nobles don’t marry for love, marriage is a formal contract between families.
Predictable. This is yet another contest that is practically rigged in Manaria’s favour. There is no offering known to be heavier than the Flower of Flora, so the best you could hope for is a tie, and even that is a difficult feat, given how rare that flower is and how difficult it is to obtain.
Ugh, more poems. And it’s so obviously fake, too. You’re just reciting someone else’s words that don’t carry the same meaning or feeling as the original.
Cutting it a little close there, Rae.
Wow, Manaria actually looks happy to see Rae, meanwhile Claire is immediately concerned by the state she is in.
Manaria has a flower of legend, and Rae has what looks like a random stick. Not hard to imagine the reaction she’d get.
They have no faith in her. As if Rae hasn’t proven that she tends to know more than she could possibly know.
Well, Misha, you got your miracle.
Rod, don’t act like you didn’t have your own doubts not two seconds ago.
YES! THAT’S HOW YOU DO IT! THAT’S A REAL CONFESSION OF LOVE!
That 180 is just as jarring in anime form. It’s like this girl just forgot she’s been playing the role of the villainess for the past few weeks.
Look at Claire’s hand, like it’s still searching for Rae’s.
The most shocking part about this is Manaria is actually serious. In fact, at this point in the novel Rae suddenly remembers a little bit of trivia about Manaria from the game. It was possible that Manaria might confess feelings for the protagonist, not that it actually led to anything if she did.
This is even better than the novels and manga, Claire didn’t just yell her true feelings (and Rae’s name, finally), she actually grabbed Rae and put herself between them.
Oh, how we missed this banter. It’ll take a bit longer for Claire to get over that knee-jerk reaction but now we know she doesn’t actually mean it.
That crowd’s getting a full show today. The following year’s festival is going to be a snore fest in comparison.
Early credit again, I see.
Someone actually made an accurate prediction that the story of Poesie Amour was foreshadowing Rae and Manaria’s fates. Like the two suitors in the story, Rae would go on to marry Claire, while Manaria would go on to be a great queen. I can’t believe it never occurred to me before, not even on rereads when I knew the outcome.
No, no, Rae has a right to feel the way she does. Manaria spent most of the time being a menace to Rae, stomped all over her feelings and even threatened Claire. Even if it was all ultimately for her benefit, that doesn’t erase all the emotional damage or the scars.
Wow, Rae, you just figured it out. And yeah, there very likely was a better way to go about it, but Manaria has already admitted she’s kind of a shitty person.
After those confessions, everyone’s pretty much accepted that they’ll be getting together.
I’m surprised more people haven’t confronted Rae about the things she seems to know. I suppose everyone else is taking the wait and see approach, but since she’s leaving, Manaria had to ask now.
As has been hinted many times, a revolution is coming, and those don’t tend to end well for the people in power. Even if Claire doesn’t turn full Villainess, she’ll still likely be executed for no other reason than that she is a noble. That is the future Rae has been working to prevent.
Look at their classmates, they clearly have no idea how to react, yet all their friends have accepted that this is just the way they are, even as a couple.
And that’s a wrap. While I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a Season 2, I will recommend that novels and manga. The next few arcs are particularly interesting. Personally, I’m a big fan of Chapter 6: Yu’s Secret (FYI, this episode ended Chapter 4: The Scales of Love). That chapter is packed with all sorts of good and interesting stuff.

Episode 11
Okay, but why was Rai so late? Surely they’ve been doing this morning routine long enough she shouldn’t have overslept. There’s never an explanation of this, so I wonder if Rae is actually late or if Manaria gets there that much earlier.
“You know, this might be a good opportunity for you to get over Miss Claire.” Blasphemer! Heretic! What kind of best friend are you, Misha? Sure, you two have barely spent any time together since Rae spends all day with Claire and all night doing other nonsense, and she has all these secrets lately, and where was I going with this?
No, no, don’t “put up with it”, fight back! Even if she is trying to provoke you, that doesn’t mean a response isn’t warranted. Just be smart about it so you don’t fall into a trap.
In the game, Manaria was the protagonist’s ally in love specifically. It’s only in Rae’s twisted view that she could be considered in enemy in the first place. Now, this Manaria is behaving differently, but keep in mind that Rae long abandoned the role of “protagonist”. How can Manaria fill her expected role, if Rae has given up on love?
So long as Claire is happy, right? Nothing else matters, not even your own feelings, or your own happiness.
Oh yeah, those two, Pipi and Loretta, still exist. By this point, the novels had already completely forgotten them. The manga is still keeping them around so far.
So the Scales weigh the offerings based on how difficult they are to obtain. The Flower of Flora is the offering known to be the heaviest so it stands to reason it would be “difficult” to obtain, unless you’re an incredibly OP magic user like Manaria.
I was wondering if it would be brought up, since they’re sprinkling information a little at a time instead of one big info dump. Rae doesn’t like “Poesie Amour” as a love story and I kind of agree with her to an extent. Why let the scales decide for you rather than take the initiative yourself?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Manaria knew the pot was already empty. If nothing else, she could easily check the current volume with a bit of subtle wind magic.
Huh, wonder what those two are up to. They’re either running towards Rae, or away from Manaria.
Wow, Claire, I’m surprised you noticed anything about Rae at all, given you’ve only had eyes for Manaria who is intentionally monopolising your time.
Manaria just called Claire out and it went right over her head.
Ah, I think I know why Pepi and Loretta are so freaked out. Even if they haven’t spent much time with Manaria, I’m sure there are plenty of rumours and stories circulating among nobles of both Kingdoms. The funny thing is, Rae should know all those details herself, but any information from the game that didn’t seem useful to her goals has probably been forgotten by now.
Despite her behaviour, Manaria has a point. Romantic love isn’t so selfless, if Rae is truly in love with Claire, then that means she wants to be the one that makes Claire happy, and to have the love returned. Yet, Rae hasn’t tried to form a relationship with Claire, if anything she has kept a certain distance between them. So as Manaria says, either her feelings aren’t nearly as strong as she claims, or she’s a coward.
Claire, you seem nervous for some reason, I wonder who for.
The scary thing about multi-casters, combining multiple elements into even more powerful attacks. Unfortunately that doesn’t just apply to Rae.
Rod, of course she was holding back against you! You’re far too weak to have lasted long in a duel if she had.
Rae started aggressive and busted out all her best, most powerful spells, but as OP as she is, Manaria is several magnitudes above her level.
We’ve seen the attacks Rae could wield with two elements, now we see what happens when you combine all four. They made it look even more brutal than in the manga. Since Dominator turns the target’s own magic against them, it stands to reason the more powerful they are the more damage it does, so it’s incredibly effective against Rae with an Exceptional Aptitude for two elements
It was excessive, but there’s a purpose behind Manaria’s brutality. It makes it all the more clearly that Rae could never have beaten her in a magic duel. Cocytus is Rae’s most powerful attack, and there isn’t much she can do to get stronger on her own.
Claire obviously cares about Rae, it’s just too bad she doesn’t make that clearer. Maybe then, Rae would have had the courage to do things properly.
And now Rae’s spirit has been crushed. This next part is not going to be fun.
ED is a little early this time. We have another four and half minutes of episode left.
It seems seeing Rae hurt has made a bit protective of her, and she’s not even hiding it. Unfortunately Rae is no longer in a state of mind to recognise or appreciate it.
Hey, Claire, remember that whole “love is blind” thing? Seriously, you’re the only person in the whole school who seems clueless about what’s going on.
“I am not some thing to be won!” says the girl who was just defending “Poesie Amour” a little while ago, you know, a story that is all about two men competing over a girl. Look, I get she is angry, and say she has every right to be. I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy.
Claire, I’d advise you against pushing her any further the state she is in… and you just threatened to fire her… and she called your bluff.
Well, as bad as this looks, the arc isn’t over yet. That said, those two idiots aren’t going to figure things out on their own.

Episode 10
With Lene gone, Rae has to take over for all her duties, including brushing and styling Claire’s hair.
Oof, Rae can’t even appeal to her sweet tooth without it backfiring.
Wow, Claire’s so out of it, she can’t even keep up the act of hating Rae. I saw a little smile there. Truthfully, I think Rae has already helped her more than she realises during this difficult time period.
Well, she perked up quickly at the mention of her “sister”
Why’d she have to write it like a love letter?
Popular with the ladies as ever. All but one, that is.
Honestly Claire, I don’t know what you were expecting. Rae’s doing the same comedy routine since the day you met and after months she finally has a new audience.
Oh dear, Rae, you have no idea what you’ve just done gaining Manaria’s interest like that
I see a lot of girls in the cafeteria, and not a single one came her to eat.
Ah yes, the world’s only quad-caster (as far as anyone knows) and one of the few magic users more OP than Rae.
Manaria’s right, simply being a quad-caster is nothing to boast about on its own. Knowing how to make full use of your magic is a different story. For instance, Rae experimented with her magic to modify and even create new spells in ways that weren’t possible in game. Her tungsten carbide barrier is a perfect example.
Don’t worry, Rae. Manaria may have won over Ralaire, but you’ll always be her number 1 thanks to feeding her your cooking.
I saw a family tree on the author’s Twitter that explains the familial relationship between Claire and Manaria. If I’m not mistaken they are what you call second cousins.
So here’s finally the missing piece in Claire’s childhood flashbacks. Manaria was the one who helped her after her mother’s death.
Don’t worry, Claire, I think we all understand how you could make such a mistake.

Since Manaria is a character that appears in the game, Rae is all too familiar with her capabilities.
Manaria could spend time with any other girl in school, but the one she is currently interested in is the one who doesn’t want her around.
Oof, good thing Manaria didn’t hear her internal exposition in her head, or she’d have some explaining to do later.

I’m with Rae. My neurodivergent ass can’t even process poetry so it has always been the bane of my existence, especially during my High School English classes.
Why are they so offended? Rae brushes off invitations from the Princes all the time.
I see Rod has finally returned from wherever all the boys disappeared to.
You can hype Rae up all you want, she’s not going to play with you!
Yeah, he might be a chess master, but in battle, Rod’s fairly predictable. He just uses his massive reserves of power to keep throwing his minions at his opponents until they run out of magic. In a war of attrition, he’d win every time.
From what I understand, anybody can use spell breaker on the same magic as their own attribute/s, but it’s almost impossible to analyse magic in the middle of a fight, so it’s not a practical spell for most magic users. Manaria is one of the few who can pull it off, making spell breaker a specialty of hers.
Really, Claire, you’re only just noticing Rae is in a bad mood. Maybe if you stopped fawning over Manaria every second of the day, you might have noticed how unusually quiet she has been.
Yeah, Rae being jealous is the most obvious, and predictable reaction in the world. You get no points for guessing it, Claire.
Claire still isn’t convinced of Rae’s feelings, and honestly, this is largely Rae’s fault. Yet, here Claire is offering Rae a chance to actually prove it and erase any lingering doubts.
Yu knows what’s up.
Oh no, now that Manaria has figured Rae out, now comes the next phase, the teasing.
There’s an excellent question, Rae.
All this time, you were trying to set up Claire with Thane. This was the plan, right? For Claire to find her own happiness. Is this not what you’ve been working towards this entire time?

Episode 9
Before we get started, I wanted to say something first. I’ve been curious for a while what the reaction to Lene’s secret would be and I’ve made an interesting observation. Most of the comments condemning her and her relationship sounded way too similar to the comments I’d seen condemning homosexuality. As for me, upon some self-reflection, I decided that if I had someone like Lene in my life, it’d be far worse thinking they couldn’t come to me for help because they felt I would judge them.
Can’t forget that even with only a High attribute, Claire has her own OP attack spell.
Yes, Rae has absolute faith in Claire’s capabilities.
Noo, Prince Thane’s hair! You monster! What’s that? He’s bleeding? Poison? Eh, I’m sure he’ll walk it off.
That’s still pretty impressive to use knowledge from a game to counteract a real poison.
Nur Empire crumbs. It’ll probably be a few years more before the manga gets there.
The Commoner Movement might have lost its steam with the reveal of the conspiracy, but that doesn’t mean any of the underlying issues are resolved. What happened with Dede’s sentence is still an excellent example of certain nobles’ sense of privilege and superiority over commoners.
So, here’s the thing a lot of people didn’t understand about the potential motivations and consequences of Lambert and Lene’s actions. They were committing an act of treason against the crown, who generally take extreme measures to punish such things. Right or wrong, the entire family will be judged and punished for their crimes, regardless of their awareness or involvement. That’s why simply threatening a single family member isn’t a strong enough motivation on its own to betray the crown. Family is important, but who would doom the entire family for a single member?
I love it when they’re on their same wavelength, plotting together. We don’t get too much of that this early in the series.
We heard you loud and clear, Claire, you find Rae very attractive in formal wear.
Fun fact, Rae prefers wearing pants over skirts and dresses. Even Claire has a hard time trying to get Rae into a dress.
Look at those knights in full armour. And now I’m thinking about a certain fight scene later in the books. Those who’ve read them know what I’m talking about.
All hail, King Vegeta!
You gotta admit, even though it was obvious what they were going to ask, at least for the audience, it’s still a ballsy move. Like I said, treason is punished so harshly, even those whose only “crime” is being related to the actual criminals are executed.
Ah, Salas, the Prime Minister. Another character who I should avoid talking about.
Wow, look at Thane, the least favoured for the throne, sounding very much like a king right now.
Oh, these two are couple goals.
You know, we never learned what happened to the rest of the Aurousseau’s, just what Lene and Lambert got up to on their own.
Don’t think I didn’t notice what you slipped in in that flashback montage.
Quite the optimistic and hopeful parting. It’s not like Lene can visit, unless something extreme happened in the Bauer Kingdom, like a revolution or some- oh wait…
She’s almost here. And wow, they just revealed it in the promo that she was Claire’s first love (the charming “prince” little Claire mentioned in that flashback). Sure, she thought she was a boy, but Thane also had some pretty feminine features, enough to pull off a maid outfit. And who can forgot how Claire was convinced to go along with that cafe idea. Just saying, there’s a pattern here and it’s saying quite clearly that there ain’t no way this girl is straight.

Episode 8
Okay, so we have Rae giving the political exposition. The game is called Revolution for a reason so of course there’s a lot of actual politics.
Oops, Rae, you almost broke character there. It’s tricky to discuss such things without it leading to a fight or alienation.
Wait, is that Lily? Yes! I was hoping they’d show her early since we’re not got to that particular arc this season. Even if it’s just a brief appearance, I’ll take it!
His wounds have to be pretty bad if this is what he’s like after receiving healing magic.
Can’t blame him for being cynical of the knights after a noble attacked him.
Look, Matt’s an idiot. We know that since he tries to talk to people while they’re working or on a date. So I can imagine him saying something stupidly provocative out loud when tensions are high, but Dede shouldn’t have butted in in the first place without Yu’s permission. And it certainly wasn’t his place to defend someone else’s “honour” when they weren’t even there to speak for themselves. Dede should never have talked to Matt, and he definitely shouldn’t have pulled out his wand.
I’m on Yu’s side. The Princes, all Royals really, should be more mindful of the voices of the people, otherwise they can’t effectively govern for them.
Ugh, I’m with Rae. The commoners have the most reason to be upset and Rae is expected to talk to them about the grievances while maintaining neutrality as a Knight. Those aren’t going to be fun conversations.
The Bauers are just like “Do it, Claire, we need her for this.”
That sentence is bullshit. Even if it was an accident, Dede still drew his wand on another student, and they were severely injured because of it. If he’d only just threatened him with the wand and no one was hurt, a week on house arrest might still be going easy on him.
On one side, there are the nobles who think they are entitled to step on the commoners all they want and be above the law. On the other, the commoners are sick of the mistreatment and unequal application of the law. And in the middle, the Church seemingly playing to both sides to look after its own interests.
The less I say about Yu’s mother, Queen Riche, the better.
Look at Claire, taking care of Ralaire and putting her in her pocket.
Uh-oh, Rae’s using her serious voice.
While everyone else was scratching their heads, Rae knew exactly what this sequence of events meant and what they’d eventually lead up to. But before she can deal with the plot, she wanted Claire out of harm’s way. After all, making sure Claire gets her happy ending is Rae’s ultimate goal, and she would rather her out of harm’s way as much as possible.
Now is our favourite masked weirdo’s time to shine.
“I don’t have proof, but I know everything.” It’s surprising how effective it is when Rae demonstrates knowledge that she logically shouldn’t be able to obtain, like Lambert’s true motive.
If you go back to that last conversation they had, there was more being communicated between Rae and Lene than what was said. Rae was begging Lene to stay with Claire and not try to save Lambert. I guess her sisterly like love for Claire was no match for what she and Lambert share.
And the hero of the day is Ralaire.
It was fun seeing people speculate what role the Masked Stranger had in the plot, but the truth is he wasn’t in the game Rae played at all. She doesn’t know everything after all. This was inevitable, a game has only so much content, so many characters and respective roles, but this is a whole world. There’s more here than Rae could possibly know about.
Ugh, time magic. That’s got to be cheating.
She’s just been betrayed by her oldest, dearest friend, but Claire still wants to help Lene.
Okay, that water bubble, the princess carry, the landing, that was pretty cool.
Yes, yes, we know, Claire. Rae’s magic is ludicrously OP, and even now she can’t resist a chance to flirt.
That said, Rae has her limits. She doesn’t have Rod’s insane magical reserves and I know that spell was one of her most powerful, and draining.
The problem with Chimera is that they have three attributes. Fire for the head, earth for the body, and water for the tail. We even see it use its tail to block Claire’s fire earlier. And each body part is naturally resistant to its respective element, which also happen to be the three elements Rae and Claire possess between the two of them. What I’m saying they’re at a considerable disadvantage.
I knew we were dangerously close to running out of time this episode. Guess we’ll have to see the epic conclusion of this fight next episode.
Just to be clear, this Chimera is more of a mid-game boss. There’s plenty of story after this, though we’re only going to get one more arc before the season is over. In fact, by the end of next episode, the mystery girl in the OP everyone’s wondering about should finally make her appearance.

How could I have forgotten about Lene’s teachings on “the Way of the Maid”. This should be good.
I see the other Knights showed up this time. I’m sure at least some of them are regretting not sitting on the last meeting when Rod pushed his proposal.
I will say this about Rod, he doesn’t half-ass things. If he’s going to do something, he’s going to put the effort in, hence why he is one of the top students.
Okay, with the glasses, she reminds me of the François Head Maid. I suppose it makes sense she is to blame for this.
Even as a child, Lene had mastered the art of manipulating Claire.
Hmm, I think Misha wears it best.
Also, putting lipstick on Lorek is just adding insult to injury.
Oh, no, Claire as a butler is more dangerous than I thought. I saw that shot in the preview but hearing her speak is doing something to me. And now I know why so many girls ended up falling for Claire later on in the series.
If Rae didn’t take this opportunity, I’d have been disappointed in her.
Claire, don’t threaten her with a good time, you know how she is by now.
It’s that guy, whose name is not really worth remembering. If it weren’t for the momentary focus on him, he’d blend in with all the background characters.
Hello? That person is here, lurking ominously in the shadows.
Now isn’t that interesting. During an “event” where one of the three love interests shows up, it is actually Claire to the rescue. I mean, if we are talking about the LI with the highest affection level, who else would it be?
I think that covers the Lene-focused flashbacks from Claire’s childhood. We did the ones focused on her mother last episode. I wonder when they plan to show us the rest.
You doing okay, Thane? Sounds like you’re losing the will to live.
This is the closest to courtship that Rae has actually done since she met Claire. To put it another way, Rae finally (kind-of) asked Claire out on a date.
Claire, you really set yourself up for that.
This Haunted House gets an A for atmosphere, and an F for costume design.
Does that boy have a permanent blush, or is he that into Yu and Rae?
Rae may understand and agree with the Commoner Movement, but making sure Claire gets her “happy ending” is her priority. If, hypothetically, the Movement ever became a threat to Claire, Rae would not hesitate to show them what a dualcaster can do.
Seriously, Rae, how do you not get it yet? The first time you properly ask Claire out on a date, which she willingly agreed to, and you close it out by wishing her luck getting with someone else. No wonder the poor girl is so confused and not sure whether to believe in your love or not.
I do get to a certain extent what Rae means when she says Claire saved her. I had a similar life-altering experience playing a certain game. It had such an impact on me, that when I changed my name, I took that character’s name as part of my new one.
Rae doesn’t realise the opportunity she let slip by. Still, Claire did hold on to the necklace.
I see Claire’s ED song has changed, just like Rae’s, which I still haven’t found a translation for, yet.
Guess we’re skipping the shopping encounter with Dole, Claire’s father. I suppose that’s fine. Unless we get a second season, there’s not much point teasing the audience too much if there’s no guarantee of a payoff.
I figured if we had the extra time this episode, we’d have that as a cliffhanger.

Episode 6
I’m like 90% sure there are more Knights than those 8 people, but I guess no one else bothers to show up to the meetings.
In the novels, the crossdressing maid cafe was entirely Rod’s idea, but anime seems to be going closer to the manga route. I prefer it this way though
I like how all the girls voted yes for similar reasons.
It’s a blink and you’ll miss it moment, but you can see the Bauer siblings in their maid outfits in the OP.
Yeah, Lambert’s kind of a big deal, so I still find it funny that the First Prince simply referred to him as “the other guy” and “the Vice Captain” in the last episode, like he didn’t know who he was.
Claire’s fear of ghosts and the like is also adorable. And she was so confident a moment ago.
Remember Miss Claire, this is a job you volunteered for.
Now we start to see one of Rae’s most appreciated talents. If it wasn’t for all the teasing she had done previously, Claire might have asked for her hand then and there.
So when Lambert first mentioned about the school being haunted, you can tell Rae was initially confused, but once she heard the details, she immediately knew it was mostly her fault.
I wonder if Rae is getting enough sleep with all of her late night kitchen experiments.
Okay, that’s a nice touch having Misha teaching Ralaire how to play Rock, Paper, Scissors and that’s why she’s been mimicking a hand so much lately.
Oh no, we’re doing that flashback.
I sympathise with Claire here. The whole situation was just so unfair.
Of course, Rae knows about that whole tragedy. There’s more to the story, of course. Even with the new novels from Claire’s perspective, we’re learning new details about it that just make the whole thing so much worse.
Given the dream she was having, I bet Claire was the one who grabbed Rae’s hand in her sleep.
Classic isekai trope right there. Rae certainly didn’t choose to be Claire’s maid for the salary, so if Rae needed a lot of money, she’d have to acquire it through other means.
Ah yes, Claire and Ralaire are both gluttons for Rae’s cooking and baking.
Insurance in case “something happens” which coming from Rae and her knowledge of future events yet to come, means the time will come when Lene needs those recipes. Claire might be Rae’s priority, but it’s nice to see her looking out for other people who need it.
First time we see Rae’s healing magic at work. Of course, Rae made sure to figure out how to do healing, in case Claire ever got hurt. On that thought, I’m reasonably confident that the real purpose behind developing her tungsten carbide barrier was also so she can better protect Claire from any threats.
Oof, that foreshadowing.
I see Rae’s ED song has entered a second phase. I’ve listened to the songs so many times by now that I can just tell, even though I can’t understand a single word.
The Foundation Fair is next episode, and that’s going to be a treat to watch for so many reasons. This is going to be a long week.

Episode 5
I’ve wondered about this but it seems like familiars are extremely rare and almost unheard of. In the entire series, Ralaire is the only one we know of.
Yep, Ralaire is a ship name, and in the game, Rae named her familiar the same thing every time.
Ralaire doesn’t need to attack anyone, she can just continue to look cute and humans will dote on and feed her.
Let’s be real, those six names shown are the only ones that matter.
Oh, Miss Claire, how very forward of you grabbing Rae’s hand like that. I find it funny that everyone is watching those two, and this will no doubt fuel the misunderstandings about the nature of their relationship.
Ralaire cannot be confined, the whole world must see her adorableness. Plus the more humans she enthrals, the more treats she will be given.
“The other guy?” Just admit you don’t remember his name, Rod.
Even though they mentioned them last, I bet Rae and Claire was the first match up that was proposed.
In the books, the participants were allowed to request their opponent. Naturally, Claire immediately requested Rae, much to Rod’s disappointment.
Their aptitudes may not be nearly as high as the commoner transfers, but the Bauer siblings have had the privilege to spend years practicing their magic, and finding ways to make the most of their attributes.
Two fangirls on either side, and Rae in the middle probably excited to see boys beat each other up instead of chasing her.
After being on the defensive for so long, Yu looks a little too eager for returning the favour.
Ah, the “Ice Prince”. Yu’s not fond of that particular nickname, perhaps for more than one reason.
Okay, walking on compressed air is pretty much a step away from flying.
Misha is not a very expressive person, but I can hear the lack of enthusiasm in her voice. Honestly, I’d be the same if I were up against Rod, but probably for a different reason than hers.
Rod doesn’t command the same amount of firepower as Claire, but he makes up for it with his ludicrously large MP stat.
Hmm, I see they didn’t clarify the real reason Misha lost the match. She could have easily won, but her reverence for the Royal family meant she was unwilling to attack the First Prince, even though she was more than strong enough to beat him, which just ended up annoying Rod.
I’m glad Misha’s feelings for Yu are mutual.
Who left the baby unattended? You know how dangerous that is, the number of humans she can enthral with her cuteness.
Now for a proper fight between two real powerhouses.
Her aptitude may only be High but Claire certainly has some serious firepower to melt stone.
Red Lotus Queen? Seriously, who comes up with all these nicknames.
One of Rae’s hidden strengths, her knowledge of science from her past life. Even if her knowledge is only at a high school level, that’s a significant advantage over this magic-based medieval-ish society.
Why all the explosions every time she uses a spell? Well, because it looks cool as hell, of course.
Wow, pretty good impression.
Yeah, Claire’s actually pretty athletic, and she’s had some non-magic defense training.
Busting her signature move. It’s impressive, but there’s something Claire still hasn’t figured out about Rae’s strategy so far.
“Stubbornness is my biggest pitfall.” She was definitely waiting to use that line.
A surprisingly effective spell. Not easy to get out of without an earth or air attribute.
Yep, Rae has two attributes, one that is strong against fire, the other that’s weak to it, and the one she’s been using during the entire battle was the latter. Claire is hopelessly, hilariously outmatched.
Oh wow, who could have foreseen all six of them would get in? Seriously though, the reason they were all matched up together was because they were the top contenders and needed worthy opponents that would allow them to really show off their skills. They were pretty much already guaranteed to pass.
Seriously, Thane?
Now they’re both singing the ED. I really got to look up a translation at some point. Should be interesting to see how it changes and their relationship evolves.

Before we get into the next episode, I wanted to address some things thanks to some comments I read over the week. Last episode was important, perhaps the first thoughtful discussion about homosexuality in an anime that anyone seems to be aware of. It was also our first insight into Rae’s character and her peculiar actions.
Speaking of Rae’s actions, it seems to me that some people are blowing things out of proportion. Let me just say it, when it comes to Rae and Claire in the earlier parts of the series, neither is really innocent. Neither of them are particularly bad either, each knows where to draw the line and is capable of acknowledging when they’ve gone too far. Also, Claire initiated most of their interactions, by attempting to bully Rae into submitting or quitting school. As for the maid thing, I hope I don’t have to spell it out, but Rae has a greater purpose behind sticking close to Claire beyond her own selfish desires.
Episode 4
Kicking off with magic exposition. Exposition that Rae likely had to sit through (or skip) countless times over while playing Revolution.
Rae’s own exposition about monsters is much more entertaining. Take notes, Torrid Magic! (Yes, for some reason his last name is literally Magic. I suppose it’s like how Rae Taylor’s parents are tailors)
Once again, Rae overdoes it. Great line though. “I’m officially too OP to function!”
Oh, they actually showed his full name.
Can’t have an element based magic system without the whole strengths and weaknesses thing. Also, combo magic. Multi-casters also have special composite magic depending on the elements they have access to.
This is flirting, right?
Rae’s like eww, boys. Right there with ya, girl.
Rae is like “Noooo, not more exposition! Where’s the skip button? Skip! Skip!”
That first fantasy was meh, but that second one, heck yeah! That’s more like it. That, and it’s more faithful to Claire’s character.
Time for the first boss battle!
So yeah, Torrid might be a tri-caster, but his aptitude is not nearly as impressive compared to the main characters. Plus he lacks the wind attribute that beats water. He is hopelessly outmatched here.
What’d you expect. Numbers don’t matter when most of the students there are either too weak to do much damage, or too inexperienced to land an accurate hit. Should have just had Misha take it out with one strong attack.
Rae, you’re not bound to video game logic, you can just call out whichever name you want.
I don’t know what to say, so I’ll just let Rae speak for me.
Eww, it’s raining slime everywhere!
And as usual, Thane gets the short end. Eh, I doubt he’d want all that attention anyway.
Everyone’s favourite character has finally arrived.
And now, we all feel bad for Mama Slime! Great job, anime, neither the manga or novels made me feel this way.
Rae, don’t pretend. We know it bothers you, enough that you tried to run away from it.
Guess that event worked, it did raise the Affection level for who Rae called out to.
Claire had the perfect opportunity to get on the Thane route but chose the Rae route instead. We’re all proud of her.
That little giggle from Rae at the end was cute. I think this is genuinely the happiest she’s been.
Misha, you’re the second most powerful person in the whole school, and your attribute beats water! Why are you scared of a tiny slime?!
Claire, you could vaporise a slime that small! Why are you scared?!
Next episode is going to be a fun one!

Always been lowkey fascinated by the parallels and contrasts between IFTV and MagiRevo because they tackle the genres they're trying to queer with almost diametrically opposed approaches to arrive at a common conclusion? IFTV's all about knowledge and certainty, about a protagonist who is almost completely aware of how everything in the story she currently inhabits will play out and how simultaneously empowering and constrictive that can be to a queer identity that yearns for stability and grounding, while also being keenly aware of how sharply the lines between tolerance and exile, a happy present and an inevitable future are drawn, and daring to properly imagine something new, to flip the script and turn the destined into the daring. On the other hand, MagiRevo's all about uncertainty and the chaotic, of a protagonist who's empowered not because of what she knows, but because of what she doesn't, and the newfound faith and hope she can foster in a world where nothing is set in stone and anything can be possible, which also then transitions into a story about how brutally hierarchy and hegemony creates dynamics of insiders and outsiders, and the importance of queer identity being grounded not only in maverick individual excellence, but also in a community that can offer love, support and stability.
Despite and because of this, both tales arrive at a declaration that all queerness is revolutionary and no revolution can exclude the queer, that the act of being gay is necessarily mutinous, and that to find lasting bliss and stability, you must love dangerously and imaginatively, embrace the subversive and villainous, and write legends from promises and dreams. Truly the kind of range that makes you think, "Girlgods, how I love yuri."
