Which fic is my wildest ride?

My magnum opus, The Consequence of Heat Series, is pretty wild. Four stories, all different feels, following Edward and Jacob's relationship. The first one was an experimental mpreg that I fell in love with. The second one is an adventure/action story. The third is the angst and heartbreak story. And the fourth is the culmination of the three.

Have you ever ever been playfully mean to your readers in a story?

Frequently. I like to make unpopular choices. People were pretty riled when I made Jasper a full-on racist in Visions Interrupted.

Do you listen to music when you write and what song is playing on loop lately?

I already answered in more detail in a previous ask. But no, I don't, it's too distracting. And the non-musical album I've been playing is Faith by George Michael :)

he knew hundreds of lullabies, but one had always stuck out to him. it made his chest ache in the familiar way thinking of elizabeth masen did, and it was easy to guess that he had known it for as long as he could remember. and so he passed this song down from the grandmother she would never know.

6. How do you come up with ideas?

In fanfic, I write the stories I want to read for which I can't find a version I love. Almost all of my fics come from me basically just wanting to be a voyeur: "The Talk," my first fic, was me reading the line in BD where Edward mentioned he'd talked to Carlisle about having sex and me thinking, "Well now that had to have been an interesting conversation!" So I wrote what I thought happened. They also come from conversations with people--Ithaca Is Gorges came from talking with my bestest bestie about the fact that as you get older, you start realizing that your parents are fallible people, and that one of the biggest problems with the Twilight saga is that Bella is taking Edward at face value when he has not ever managed to get to that point with Carlisle and Esme. So what do the Cullens look like when they're not filtered by Edward?

Also I was trained to write characters first; plot second. So "ideas" for me usually are "okay, in this situation, how would this character logically respond, given all the things they hold dear, are afraid of, think are at stake?" I don't think of plots first. Plots emerge (and frustratingly, keep emerging.)

30. What do you struggle with most when writing?

Perfectionism. So, so much perfectionism. I very often see something that needs to go first before I can write the second thing, and then if I can't write the first thing, it doesn't matter if the second thing is more white hot. It's the main reason I've shifted to fully drafting long fics and only posting fics that consist of what are effectively related one-shots: Cien Años right now has been stuck because there's a chapter with Rose and Esme I need in order to establish something about what Esme thinks of Carlisle before I go to one of Esme and Carlisle 70 years later. But I've been having issues with that one. I will obsess over pieces of a work and over individual sentences until they truly pass muster, and, if I decide there's something else that belongs in the work, I will edit it later. I appreciated your tag comment btw, and also laughed about it because I revise everything. Sideblog answers? Yep. Headcanon posts? Yep. This post? Yep! I will move beats around in a sentence on a reddit post so that it has the rhythm I want it to have, even though there's absolutely no creative merit in it at all.

I used to be way better at just writing and letting stuff stick but not anymore. The other day one of my collaborators talked about her writing process and described mine as "Oh and then [giselle-lx] just produces these perfect sentences that say exactly what we all mean" and I was like, "No I have just already edited five times before I put them into Overleaf!"

42. How do you get over writers' block?

I...don't? I'm staring at a fic in Scrivener that hasn't been updated since 2019 and which I started drafting in 2010. And like I said above, been stuck on another work for a year.

But the thing which works the most reliably is reading. When I read, whether nonderivative stuff (which is mostly what I read--I am a bad fanfic reader, I confess!) or fic, my brain starts sparking with ideas and then I can get going again. If I'm struggling to get words down, it's usually a sign I need to read more.

Oh and the other thing which reliably creates writing is getting the hell off social media. Every single time I am serious about that practice, my brain just rebels at how bored it is and starts writing. "Ordinary Time" happened after I deprived my brain of social media for a month, and "Drying Up" happened after I deprived it for merely a long weekend. I know this in my soul, and yet... :/ :shakes fist at Mark Zuckerberg:

More vampire sketches: Carlisle Cullen turning Edward, and a few color sketches to explore facial features.  

Was it only last week I wished for a full-length story about Carlisle?  Well, I found a phenomenal one: Stregoni Benefici by giselle-lx (who also runs an Ask Carlisle tumblr).  The black-and-white sketches in particular are inspired by Chapter 26, “Sire.”  

This is a sharply written and structured work that’s incredibly emotional and character-driven; and I so admire the great attention paid to historical accuracy and how it is woven into the tale to support the narrative.  I would highly recommend this story and others of giselle-lx’s oeuvre!

I imagine more sketches are on the way...!

Hi thank you for asking!! I don't read a whole lot of fic usually so I don't have too many suggestions but these are some I have read and enjoyed:

I have read through (but not finished yet) @t-e-reynolds A Rose by Any Other Name which is well written and does capture the vibe of twilight imo! It's a Rose/Bella pairing and is significantly more gay and less racist than Twilight lolol. Tristan is also writing a few oneshots that tie into his AU but I haven't had a chance to read those yet. A Rose by any other name is complete and he's working on the sequel now afaik!!

@fuckmeyer has written a few short fics on here that tie into canon that I LOVE because they're so perfectly bite sized and very good reads! My favorites are their writings on Maria and Jasper pre-Cullens because she really brings Maria to life gorgeously. They also wrote a ficlette about Seth that almost made me cry (a very tough thing to do!)

I have also read some of @musingsofvenus 's short Jake/Bella fics that are set during New Moon/ around NM but AU because there's no Edward hehe. Her stuff is really emotional and tender and I think captures why so many people liked Jake/Bella to begin with in a really sweet way. She also writes longer AUs that I haven't not read yet but sound great!!

Unfortunately that's pretty much it for fic I've managed to read due to my Bad at Reading Screens issue lolol. There are some fics that's I've wanted to check out which I'll list as well for good measure:

@effervescent-hoe 's The Essence of You is a canon divergent rewrite that is also Gayer than Canon and I'm very excited to read :)

@thecarnivorousmuffinmeta has a Marcus fic called Painting Red Madonna's that sounds delightful.

@big-idiot-wolf-boys is doing a rewrite called Nightfall and I love that it's set in the 90s!

Since the last time I was super active on tumblr a decade ago when it started, tumblr has changed a bunch and now people pin posts? This is a thing? You have a post with info about you? Okay. Here is one. I shall pin it. 

“giselle-lx” is a phonological pun on a username I’d been using forever and I didn’t want fanfic to get tied up with any other online identity of mine but didn’t feel like making something new up so...yeah. I’ve been writing my whole life, and reading fanfic almost my whole life, but I stumbled into writing fanfic when a certain blond vampire dad walked into my life in this silly book my friend had loaned me. 

I write twific almost exclusively, and post it as giselle-lx on FFnet and AO3 and my website and I keep writing weird ficlets on this hellsite, too. I wrote a fic that many people seem to have heard of called Ithaca Is Gorges. Stregoni Benefici is my magnum opus. I also wrote three novellas and a whole slew of one shots because I think short fiction is fun. 

Carlisle is my one and only. He is so gloriously complex and twisty and he makes all my writerly senses wake up. As I read things, Edward is the center of his world, so Edward comes along in mine. I don’t begrudge anyone loving Edward/Bella; they’re just not my cuppa. I don’t take the movies as canon; again, they’re not my cuppa, but I see why other people think they’re fun. I *do* love the Cullen movie house, though, so you’ll see #always reblog the Hoke house pop up on occasion. 

I also view fanfic, especially canon fanfic, my fave, as one big writing exercise. I’ve always loved doing it because of the writing challenge first and because of the fan part second. So in this day of “I’m x years old and I use these pronouns and here’s all the deets about me” I’m choosing to keep my tagline as “Writing, Life, and Other Things at Which I Don’t Always Succeed.” This is mostly a Twilight blog but not exclusively a Twilight blog, I write about and reblog writing stuff as well as Carlisle stuff and then sometimes other Twilight stuff, and sometime stuff about fandom and fan culture more generally. And the lx is jargon shorthand for “linguistics” so sometimes I post about that, too. But since I’m keeping that other tagline: I use she/her pronouns, and I’m now old AF.  Ask me writing things, or Twilight things, and especially Carlisle things. And give money to the Quileute Move to Higher Ground project because for some reason Meyer and every other author who has made mega bank off the backs of a story that flagrantly and racist-ly appropriates a very specific indigenous culture aren’t already bankrolling the whole thing.

Hi i would like to know if you know some good Rosalie/Emmett fanfitions you could recommend me because they are my favourite pairing and sadly i dont find many good fanfictions about them besides the one from staringatthesky which are literally brilliant...:( Hope you could help me this would be really nice:)

I confess I haven’t read many outside of @staringatthesky11‘s stories (which I agree are brilliant, and she’s still writing btw!). The only one that comes to mind is Secondhand Rose by giselle-lx, which is an excellent one-shot in Emmett’s POV.

Sin un Estado presente, no hay #NiUnaMenos

Durante el 2018 se registraron, según el Observatorio de Femicidios de Mujeres de la Matria Latinoamericana (Mulalá), al menos 259 femicidios. Desafortundamente, el nuevo año parece no querer quedarse atrás: van poco más de 20 días del 2019 y el número de femicidios ya asciende a al menos 15. La violencia machista no da tregua y lxs responsables de tomar medidas acordes a la situación que vivimos parecen no escuchar.

Entre los femicidios de este año, hay dos que reflejan particularmente la desidia estatal que nos condena a morir a manos de femicidas. El primero es el caso de Gisel Romina Varela de 33 años de edad, quien fue asesinada en Mar del Plata por Sergio Alejandro Cejas. Cejas tenía ya una orden de restricción por violencia de género pero, como suele suceder en estos casos, la persona restringida no es el victimario sino la víctima. Se dieron a conocer chats entre Gisel y el portero de su edificio en los que ella relata su enojo frente a la situación y, sobre todo, frente a la inoperancia del Estado. “No me puedo ir del país por un enfermo. No es justo” escribió Gisel días antes de su asesinato. Y tenía razón. No es justo que las mujeres no podamos vivir tranquilas, mientras nos golpean, nos persiguen y nos matan.

El segundo caso tuvo también mucha repercusión porque repite los patrones del caso de Gisel pero con el agregado de que la víctima, Carla Soggiu, padecía de hidrocefalia y, por lo tanto, se encontraba en una situación aún más vulnerable frente a la violencia. El cuerpo de Carla apareció el 19 de enero en el Riachuelo, cuatro días después de haber presionado su botón antipánico, el cual tenía a raíz de las denuncias por violencia de género contra su esposo, Sergio Fuentes. Quienes debían protegerla volvieron a fallar: a pesar de que tuvieron comunicación con Carla, no pudieron encontrarla hasta que fue tarde.

Lejos de ser datos aislados, la falta de respuesta del Estado frente a la situación de violencia contra las mujeres se encuadra en una situación global. Nos encontramos frente a un gobierno que está muy lejos de hacer cumplir lo que determina la Ley 26.485 de Protección Integral de las Mujeres sancionada en 2009. En efecto, la política de ajuste del gobierno nacional nos golpea doblemente a las mujeres: no sólo porque somos quienes más sufrimos la pobreza y la precarización laboral sino también porque los organismos encargados de liderar la lucha contra la violencia de género sufrieron un desfinancimiento brutal en el presupuesto 2019.

El Instituto Nacional de Mujeres (INAM) recibirá un 18% menos de fondos que el año anterior, los fondos para la implementación del Plan Nacional de Acción para la Prevención, Asistencia y Erradicación de la Violencia (PNA) se reducirán en un 55% y las líneas telefónicas de asistencia a las víctimas contarán con un 24% menos de financimiento.

Si dividimos el monto total asignado al INAM por la cantidad de mujeres argentinas, el resultado es desolador: la vida de una mujer argentina, para el gobierno nacional, vale menos de 12 pesos. Cambiemos podrá intentar pintarse la cara color violeta, pero los números hablan por sí solos. Desde 2015 nos movilizamos bajo la consigna #NiUnaMenos porque sabemos que mientras quienes nos gobiernan no tomen medidas efectivas, reales y sustentadas con fondos, las mujeres seguiremos viviendo y muriendo como ciudadanas de segunda, menospreciadas y tiradas a un río o descampados. Es hora de que escuchen: ¡Emergencia Nacional en violencia de género YA!.
