... https://uknownstories.blogspot.com/2024/03/gillian.html

Ah yes, the creator of Cats the Musical, otherwise known as Gillian Lynne. And also that guy who composed its music, uh, [squints at smudged writing on hand] Andrew Floyd Webber

So the musical Standing At The Sky's Edge is set in Sheffield, specifically in the Park Hill estate, a large brutalist tower block, and follows the lives of three families living in the same flat in the block over the course of roughly 60 years. (By the by, It's a beautiful and sometimes harrowing show with gorgeous characterisation, incredible staging and wonderful songs by Richard Hawley. I highly recommend seeing it.)
In Doctor Who, Park Hill is also the home of Yaz, fitting given the Chibnall era's home in Sheffield, and this seems like a nice bit of trivia for fans of musical theatre and Who. (Possibly a growing demographic given how much the current RTD era is leaning into West End casts and musical numbers.) All that said...
What I didn't anticipate is that during act 1 of Sky's Edge (after the song 'Open Up Your Door', one of the ensemble at the edge of the stage is dressed as the Thirteenth Doctor and seems to be scanning the set with her sonic!

Six Plays by Alan Bennett: Me! I'm Afraid of Virginia Woolf (1.1, LWT, 1978)
"She's not one of these lesbians, is she?"
"What do you know about lesbians?"
"You'd be surprised at what I know. There's more in my head than nits. Oh, there was a talk about them on Woman's Hour. Cos I can't see what folks make all the fuss about. It's only women and other women. Like me and Mrs. Goodall."
"You and Mrs. Goodall?"
"Friends! Doing things together."
"Doing what together?"
"Having tea at Marshall and Snelgrove's."
"Having tea at Marshall and Snelgrove's isn't lesbianism."
"It's only liking being with other women."
"Not in Marshall and Snelgrove's."
"Well, where, then?"
"Bed. You brought the subject up."
"Well. So. Anyway, I've been in bed with other women."
"Who?"
"Your Aunty Phyllis, for a start."
"Aunty Phyllis isn't women!"

Smith is Trevor‚ a listless academic caught up in pre midlife ennui‚ and quietly despairing of the#life‚ career‚ and unhappy (heterosexual) love affair he's built around himself. he's very good but risks being overshadowed by a series of#supports that deliver some of the writers best‚ most caustic dialogue: Thora Hird shines as his uncompromising and unbending mother‚ Hugh#Lloyd is brilliant as one of his mature students (an elderly quasi fascist obsessed with the horse whipping of delinquents) and the much#under appreciated Thompson is magnetic as the aggressive‚ arrogant‚ but sexually ambiguous (and ultimate symbol of freedom and self#knowledge) Skinner. densely scripted and packed with jokes that are both broadly scatalogical and intellectually highbrow‚ this is a real#gem of a piece. that opinion was widely shared; the play was nominated for three baftas at the 1979 awards

The goings on at Cinderella west end are utterly unacceptable and despicable I don’t know who exactly to blame but right now I am completely just baffled that another Andrew Lloyd Webber show cast has been treated this horrendously ESPECIALLY after firing the cast of phantom in 2020 like did Andrew or any of his team not see the uproar caused? Did they have any empathy towards the dozens of people they made redundant and completely without support! To add, the bragging about the excitement they have towards the Broadway opening next March…sorry to burst your bubble but if you can’t make it here on the west end you are in for a treat if you want to make Cinderella which is absolutely no masterpiece work on Broadway! At this point I am just disgusted and repulsed at the disrespect towards the current cast and the cast getting ready to come into the show!!
Do better

2, 13, 21, 26 for Victoria or misto
For Victoria!
2. When I think I truly started to like them
Her solo, definitely. It's such an expressive piece of choreo that tells you everything you need to know about the character in such a short amount of time.
13. My favorite friendship they have
Misto! I love the image of him watching her solo from inside the pipe, it totally reminds me of watching your friends from behind the curtains at ballet recitals <3
21. When do you think they were at their happiest?
Within the confines of the show, I'd probably have to go with Skimble (mostly just because *everyone* is having the time of their lives during that song). Going into the extended universe, I'd probably say her first Ball. I hc Victoria as someone who loves the exhilarating feeling of dancing in a big group, so getting to join in for the first time was definitely special for her.
26. When do you think they were being "themselves" the most?
Also the solo! She was definitely feeling herself in that moment, if you know what I mean 😉
