More Fremont Street sights before the sun set. I will say that Fremont Street with the canopy does make you feel you’re in eternal twilight, though a quick view to either side of it will remind you of the time of day.
Downtown Las Vegas fucking sold me on how great this place is, and if we do have a reason or inclination to come back, I want to stay at the Golden Nugget and go down the slide that apparently goes through a shark enclosure.

Now Traveling: Las Vegas, NV
Who doesn’t like traveling during the holiday season? Depending on which culture your holiday traditions stem from, this is the worst time of year to be traveling. Some cultures do this instead of the normal hullaballoo. As I am in a partnership now that is a combination of both cultures, I now squeeze in travel just before Christmas...
Tumblr media
Tuesday 12/20: Left Cali around noon ish and did not get much traffic but way too many cops. Did a rest stop at Valley Wells and I love the desert landscape, its one of my favorites. When we got into town we went to Hash House A Go Go. 3 people split the chicken and waffles, and the eggs benedict. The portions are huge, do not order one plate per person. We then visited the new home builder sites, you know work trip...LOL. We stayed at the Palazzo this time, which is funny we finally ended up there for how often we stay elsewhere and walk over. The rooms are huge, you could easily share that with family or friends. The christmas decorations this year felt a little underwhelming. We ate at Grand Lux for dinner, and even their basic items like salads are excellent, but if you eat there go for the beef wellington. Drove to other hotels to walk around and see the other holiday decorations. There is a new ish hotel called Resort World by Hyatt and they had a cute hallmark holiday walk through experience. It was cold, but if you bundled up it was alright. After we went to Fremont St, for the Fremont Street Experience. How that got...trashier...I could not tell you. Finally got some sleep. I always find it hard to sleep in something other than my bed.
Wednesday 12/21: The next morning we went to Bellagio Conservatory to see the years christmas display. I was worried because other people in our group had said all they did was get a live 40 foot tree and really, it was probably the best display seen on the trip. Truly the bellagio could not disappoint. And it was kind of nice to see the displays being freshened up and worked on too. After went to Grand Lux in the Venetian. Parking in the Palazzo is much better than parking in the Venetian. Grand Lux for breakfast, I love the French Toast. It truly is the best french toast I have ever eaten. A good french toast is a mixture of good bread and good mix. I find often places get one or the other right, but never both. Walked breakfast off at the Aria after. Aria is one of the new ish hotels on the strip, and I personally prefer the hotels with better themes or personalities (ya know the older ones). They had a not bad christmas display in previous years, this years was not as good. We had a couple of $50 free plays, from myKonami, and used them at Bellagio, Aria, and New York New York. Most of the gabmling was not good, but Deal or No Deal saved our butts LOL. We went to Gelato Bar after, it is one of the few places I like to eat Gelato (when I am not in Italy). There is a whole world off the strip that more people should explore. We wanted to go to the Pinball Hall of Fame, which last time we went to it was relocating so we helped sponsor the relocation and I thought my name was going on a wall? But we were tired so went back to rest. Had lunch at Grand Lux, it is owned by the people who run The Cheesecake Factory. Dinner was Cleaver, an off strip steak house. For the fact that there was 11 other people besides myself...we basically tried the whole menu. Nothing was a bad time.
Thursday 12/22: The final day started with packing and putting the bags in the car, then heading to Bouchon. It is a wonderful french food experience. Their pastries are excellent, and really the food is still quite good. Over the years I have seen the menu change but it is still very good. The rest of the group wanted to have a buffet experience, and honestly there are not many buffets that made it out of COVID. So walk over to the Wynn we go. The wynn had pretty good stuff, nothing really new, but it felt very classic christmas to me overall in Vegas this year. If you are going to do a buffet, do it early or get a reservation. The line for standby was at least an hour long. Once we got the rest of the group in, we left for Cali. We made a pit stop in the original Del Taco in Barstow. I have been going to Del Taco for sooo long, but the experience at the OG one was amazing. It may have ruined my local del taco experience. The recipe is so different, I had a taco burger! And a tamale! Since we left Vegas around noon, it was almost 6 when we made it back between stops and traffic.
The only constant in the world is change and its funny to see how Vegas has changed. Price have gone up, but the classic christmas trend is almost a conservative jump back that you can see reflected in society. Travelling is a strange way to enjoy the holidays, but it is not all bad!

Holiday Magic in Vegas
We're staying up late in Vegas! Come join us!!
Travel There – Bellagio’s Conservatory & The Fremont Street Experience This is Paul & Kathi. Kathi and I go way back to my days at Stephen F. Austin. She was a sorority sister with my roommate and then the three of us had an apartment in Dallas. I’d tell you more, but we’re sworn to secrecy. Now you’d expect a good friend like that or at least your husband to tell you about the lipstick running…

That commercial ACCURATELY represented my situation back on April 2020. I was supposed to go to Las Vegas, but the screamer represented the lockdowns and travel restrictions!

Wow.
I can't leave to enjoy a few days vacation without the world falling apart?
Hybe vs. Min HeeJin. Not on anyone's bingo card this year. I have not caught up on everything but who tipped off Hybe about her dastardly plans? The timing of it all... and her little extemporaneous skit she did for a press conference was perhaps part of her plan to turn public opinion in her favor? She claims to have invented kpop or at least made it what it is today but out the other side of her mouth says she hates idol culture?
Hybe's not here to play, they will not be nice. I see no benefit to her for showing us the not so pretty side of the idol industry. Maybe that's her problem, she can't see what she's doing because she's too far into it. Thirty years in the business will make you lose your objectivity. She has no idea she is coming across as a greedy, spoiled, entitled, manipulative, narcissistic, emotional female in a male dominated industry. Basically a nut case.
The lady had a tremendous opportunity to perhaps take ownership of her company in due time, become a great example for female leadership in a country where corporate culture is steeped in chaebolism. Instead she squandered that and thinks she will come out on top. Did she miss the Hybe vs. SM Entertainment episode from last year?
Anyway.
RM's new album! RPWP!
The Monochrome pop up store is doing well!
Jin will be back after 6 Fridays!
In other news. I went to Las Vegas. This is what I saw:
The Bellagio Fountains. They're huge. The Bellagio is SWANK. I looked for Jimin in Dior and Tiffany, Hobi in the Louis Vuitton store, Namjoon in the Bottega Veneta store, but none of them were in there. There was no Calvin Klein store.
Tumblr media
When Hobi, JK and Tae were there watching the fountains dance to Dynamite, they were standing here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Passed by Allegiant Stadium a few times. It's huge.
Tumblr media
Drove out to Seven Magic Mountains. I am happy to report the lowest boulders had no writing or graffiti. They were amazingly huge as you can see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joon's pic of the above rocks:
Tumblr media
Went to AREA 15 and it was HUGE and amazing! It's impossible to show everything that its about, there are multiple buildings and installations and activities, gift shops, bars, etc. We went into the Omega Mart (mega art) experience which led to a maze of fantastically created chambers, each different from the last one, all pulsing with animated lights, texture walls, ceilings and floors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And ate at Hobak Korean BBQ. We couldn't find out which tables the members of BTS sat at but I got a pic of the Butter album they all signed. There were other autographs from other famous Korean celebs but the BTS signatures were displayed in a more prominent place on the wall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also scoped out The Sphere. Also HUGE. The concert space is arena sized. I don't know who was playing there that night but the parking lot was filling up.
We also walked the Strip.
Tumblr media
The Fremont Street Experience. That's an animated video screen overhead with ziplines running through the length of it. It's two blocks of casinos, restaurants and gift shops. People are also doing busking and shows at street level.
Tumblr media
Hoover Dam, view of the dam from the highway bridge and view of the highway bridge from the dam. Spent a few minutes on the Arizona side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hiked in the desert. Saw cactus and wildlife. Drank a lot of water.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Drove to the Mojave Desert Preserve in California just to say we did.
Tumblr media
We hated leaving. It was a fun trip. But damn, I have so much stuff to catch up on now. Hiatus my ass.
Tumblr media
If Vegas is on the BTS comeback tour I promise I will be there this time.
We gambled at the airport on our way out. The slot machines were next to our gate. And in the baggage claim area. But as you can see, its not just about gambling there.
In case you didn't get it, everything in Vegas is HUUUGGE and FARRRR. Walk a lot, spend a lot of money.
Overall, Las Vegas was clean, the people were extremely friendly and welcoming of course, they might be teaching hospitality as a school subject there, I don't know.

hey i saw your post about ao3 house style and i can totally relate to it, so i thought maybe you could share some wincest fic recs? please and thank u 🙏
you know what bud, I will indeed share some wincest fic recs bc you should rec the stuff that is good and leave the crud in the dust, right? Right. So -- here are uhh a number of recs as they occur to me, which actually read like a person wrote them instead of an AO3-trained algorithm of some kind. Plus I only rec stuff if I actually like it so consider these Z Certified or something.
The Fremont Street Experience by @nigeltde-fic -- a quick 1200 words that's a fizzing jolt of champagne right under the heart. New love that's just bursting with all that could be. Anticipation fizzes in Dean's veins, dances in his fingertips. The sand shimmers, hazes, glitters. There's so much sky. It pours into the road at the horizon. -- see?
Miles Ahead by @egipci -- a fully-formed entirely real paragraph of 750 words in which we see Sam Winchester in all his want and wanting, and I want to crawl inside the narrative presented and live there year-round. You were pretending to sleep and every once in a while a car would pass by and the headlights would fill up the inside of the car like midday and then I would look at you out the corner of my eye. All the way I thought about Mexico and you there sunburnt. -- I mean my god.
Countdown by @mollyamory-again -- another tight 1200 of just a normally-tense night that dissolves in sweet established-vibes intimacy. Brothers who feel like brothers and also an earned and real -- not hotness exactly but just adults who have sex who act and think like adults, which is not as common as you'd hope! His fingers skate over Dean's skin in lazy patterns; they find their old places, and Dean shoves up to meet them, asking for more and getting more all at once. Sam missed him, Sam wants him; Sam is here, so they can do this, Dean wants so badly to do this.
Four Winters: I by @lindencypressbirch, who got deleted and so we'll just call her Linden. Stretching all the way up to 4700 words this time, Linden takes us through a godawful piece of shit of a day in which Dean Winchester Is Handling It, until of course he isn't -- but he is, because he has to, because what other choice is there? This one does a great job of showcasing the misery without lingering on it in a maudlin or tedious way. There's just the job, and then the next job after. After another moment or two he scrubbed a hand over his wet face and went looking for his thermos, and the last of the cold coffee it held. Because they had power now, yes, but there was no telling whether they would have power later, and as they were clearly not going to be going anywhere for a few days, he had work to do before it maybe went.
The Fall Will Probably Kill You by killabeez, which is allll the way up to 7k and retains interest throughout. The big strength in this one is that Sam is competent, steady, believable-from-canon Sam when we get so much over-the-top meathead jerk or simpering babyboy who reads 15 when he's mean to be 40. I'm just blown over by all that SAM. This fic is really about Dean's misery in s7 but it's dealt with pragmatically, almost implacably; more ott than the show went on some details, but the overall vibe is nevertheless: they will get through it because this is who they are. I appreciate that always and forever. He's the one with the secret, now. He hadn't meant it to be that way. But Sam asked Dean to trust him, and Dean said okay because he was sorry for using the F-word. Sorry for putting that look on Sam's face, for making him feel like a freak, the way he hadn't been for laying him out with his fist. It's ridiculous, how he still folds like a house of cards where Sam's concerned, no matter how many times he's told himself he won't do it again. But now he's stuck with the lie, and has no one to blame but himself.
That's probably enough to be going on with. If you read these, please leave a comment to tell the author that you appreciate their work, because it should be appreciated.

One thing I absolutely insisted on doing was to take an Uber to see actual downtown Las Vegas, and it worked out perfectly because we had tickets to The Neon Museum which was close by, and I was determined to make the most of it.
Fremont Street as part of the Fremont Street Experience has been closed to cars starting in September of 1994, and the canopy that runs from Main to Fourth Street is the largest video screen in the world!
Better photos to follow as the sun eventually sets….
