Encanto OC Event Week 2: Mercedes and her twins. Madre e Hijas

Week of relationships! Not sure what to put here. Mom and daughters each designed their own Mochila bag. Mercedes painted flowers. Alejandra decorates her with ribbons, cords and a bead chain. Francisca, she didn't design hers. Alejandra made her a chain out of green glass beads to dress it up.

Let's start at the beginning! Mercedes was shocked and numb realizing she got pregnant so fast after marrying Pablo. (It was just one time!) He was too, but still cheerful and reassuring. His mother, Perla, eventually realizing Mercedes was forced into the marriage when told otherwise, offered comfort. Mercedes steadily grew happy and took one day at a time. It wasn't an easy pregnancy with aches and nausea. While the family was out of town for the day, working out details for their cantina, Mercedes realized she was in labor and gave birth alone. The family came home just in time to find a minute old Francisca snuggled against her tearful, but overjoyed mother. They were able to assist with Alejandra's birth and good thing because she was breech!

Though Mercedes and Pablo discussed names, she chose them. She'd always loved the name Alejandra. It sounded like a brave and kind heroine for a romantic novel. Francisca was a possible name, but not expected. Everyone guessed the twins were both boys or one each. (Sons were common in the Salazar line.) Mercedes might've named her firstborn Alejandra. Yet when she first held her baby, she knew her name was Francisca. She could never explain it.

Mercedes and Alejandra were most alike. They're similar in creativity: both enjoying art while Mercedes was a painter with Alejandra making jewelry and glass. Right down to the full lips, dark brown hair, face shape, and jade green eyes, they look near copies. They're close in personality being caring souls and hopeful though Alejandra clings to the past instead of looking forward. Together they enjoyed doing craft projects, cooking and fixing each other's hair.

Mercedes at first worried about Francisca. Her firstborn crawled and walked later than her twin. She fretted that she did something wrong. However, things changed when Francisca was a toddler. So much changed that Mercedes was confused. She wasn't sure why Francisca wasn't physically affectionate or didn't play like other kids. However, she soon figured her child's growing personality and could read between the lines. Francisca could be loving: more with words and would give hugs though not as warm or often like her sister. She preferred solving puzzles for fun. Mother and daughter had their own way to bond. Mercedes would try playing chess with her and they'd guess riddles. They could have deep conversation about things Francisca couldn't understand. Mercedes always gave attention to Francisca's migraines. She tried every home remedy she learned and comforted her.

Both daughters loved her dearly. They appreciated her hard work, love and strength. Besides, her cooking was great! All three did chores together; gardening was a favorite. They all liked running errands or just taking long walks. After the marriage annulled, the twins showed their mother extra support. Alejandra would cook breakfast so Mercedes could sleep later after night shifts. Francisca worked for extra pay. She also wasn't afraid to stand up for her mom when needed. There were rumors going round that it was Mercedes's fault that Pablo's marriage was annulled. "She must've failed as a wife for him to cheat!" Remember how I said Francisca wasn't afraid to call BS when she saw it?

Mercedes loved both her twins equally and appreciated their differences. She never pitted against each other or have them worry about favorites. Like a good mother, it broke her heart to see them in pain be it physical or mental. She was proud of them, but like any parent was concerned. She knew their flaws and guided to wise choices. She wanted Francisca to have more compassion. (This partially influenced Francisca's work in medicine.) She hoped Alejandra would gain confidence in herself.

Mercedes was upset that Pablo didn't contact their children, but decided she'd fill the roles of both parents. She did her best right to her last breath. Rest assured, she'd be thrilled to know her daughters meet the Madrigals, especially Bruno. He'd be surprised that one of them shares the name of his favorite telenovela heroine: Francisca.

“Los pueblos que olvidan su historia estan condenados a repetirla”

Década del 70´ se creaba el Plan Cóndor ideado por Estados Unidos con el fin de perpetrar Terrorismo de Estado en cada punto de Latinoamérica… El número de víctimas de la dictadura de Pinochet supera las 40.000 personas, de las cuales 3.065 asesinadas y desaparecidas entre septiembre de 1973 y marzo de 1990.

El pasado de Chile es una sombra tétrica de represión, torturas, asesinatos, desapariciones….pero es el pasado realmente o el presente? Paradogicamente el responsable directo de crimenes de lesa humanidad, el Sr. Augusto Pinochet, fue Senador de la República hasta el 2002… increíble. Entonces se puede decir que en chile hubo una transición a la democracia post dictadura? ¿Se puede afirmar, luego de que el mayor genocida del estado chileno haya sido senador de la República y no fue juzgado por crímenes de Lesa Humanidad?

¿O el hecho de que actualmente muchos personajes involucrados en estos delitos sean funcionarios públicos?

¿O que el mismísimo actual Presidente haya implorado compasión al pueblo ante el estado de salud alli por el 2005 un año antes de fallecer dicho genocida? Amen del nefasto historial de Corrupción que tiene.

¿O el actual Ministro de Justicia y derechos Humanos,el Sr. Hernan Larraín quien defendió a garras y dientes al Nazi pedófilo de Paul Schafer y la Colonia Dignidad ( centro clandestino de detención y tortura; y centro de violaciones a menores), encubriendo los delitos que alli se realizaron?

¿Alguien le cree a Larrain cuando estallo el escándalo y dijo que en sus tres visitas a la Colonia en tiempos dictaroriales, no se había dado por enterado de los crímenes que allí se cometían??? Como va a desconocer cuando siempre mostrò su defensa hacia el Genocida Pinochet, incluso en plena “democracia” le redactó una carta de amor dándole ovaciones? Y mas estando ya hartamente probado las violaciones de los derechos humanos, los casos de abusos sexuales, secuestros, torturas, detenciones ilegales y posesión de arsenal químico y militar que en dicha colonia habia, y aun asì el Sr. Larrain mantenia firmemente su defensa.

El actual ministro del Interior, el Sr victor Pérez, otro fiel defensor de los crimenes de Lesa Humanidad, fue Alcalde durante la Dictadura de la zona donde estaba Colonia Dignidad, también defensor y “visitador” de dicho centro clandestino operado por Nazis.

Por último el Señor Mario Rozas Cordova, actual Jefe de Carabineros, recordemos que en lo que va de su gestión hubo: -Miles de detenciones que aùn cursan -Màs de 300 personas a las que le mutilaron un ojo -Cientos de torturas, represión y hasta abusos sexuales y todos perpetrados por las fuerzas de seguridad cuya autoridad maxima es este señor Mario Rozas.. -Montajes judiciales, implantacion de “pruebas”, falsos atentados incendiarios que ya esta màs que probado que fueron -y siempre son- los mismos Carabineros.

Hasta la ONU saco un informe de 35 páginas DENUNCIANDO el uso desmedido de la fuerza y detallando dichas violaciones a los DDHH; en dicho informe resalta: “uso excesivo o innecesario de la fuerza, muertes, lesiones, torturas, malos tratos, violencia sexual y detenciones arbitrarias”.

La respuesta es No, No hubo en Chile una transición a la Democracia, la dictadura no terminò, solo le cambiaron el nombre, pero sus verdugos y cómplices aún están en el poder, las tácticas son las mismas, solo disfrazaron la formas, lo que antes era clandestino, ahora es de vasto conocimiento legitimizado por el poder judicial, su mayor arma.

Los centros clandestinos de detención ahora son las cárceles. Los fusilamientos y desapariciones clandestinas ahora son “suicidios”, “enfrentamientos” y muertes a la luz del día y lamentablemente naturalizadas por el pueblo. La persecución…es la misma. Despierta pueblo, vives en una Dictadura….

La tentativa de exterminio al pueblo Mapuche: Actualmente hay 27 presos políticos Mapuche que llevan hasta 100 dìas casi de huelga de hambre y hay 6 que llevan 4 días de huelga seca!, Como veran es inminente el riesgo de muerte. Mientras tanto…el Estado como en todo, sigue ausente y negativo al diálogo.

Por que presos políticos? Segun la definición conseptual: “es cualquier persona física a la que se mantenga en la cárcel o detenida de otro modo, por ejemplo bajo arresto, sin haber cometido un delito tipificado sino porque sus ideas supongan un desafío o una amenaza para el sistema político establecido, sea este de la naturaleza que sea”

La Asamblea Parlamentaria del Consejo de Europa, considera que un preso político debe considerarse como tal únicamente cuando: • La detención ha sido efectuada violando alguna de las garantías fundamentales establecidas en el Convenio Europeo de Derechos Humanos o cualquiera de sus protocolos. En particular, libertad de pensamiento, conciencia, religión, libertad de expresión o información, libertad de reunión o asociación. • La detención ha sido impuesta por razones puramente políticas sin conexión con ningún delito tipificado. • Por motivos políticos, la duración de la detención o sus condiciones son claramente desproporcionadas con respecto al delito del que se ha declarado culpable o se sospecha que fue cometido. • Por motivos políticos, el sujeto es detenido de manera discriminatoria en comparación con otras personas. • La detención es el resultado de procedimientos que fueron claramente injustos y esto pudiese estar relacionado con los motivos políticos de las autoridades.

Esos ítem en su totalidad son aplicables a la situaciòn de los presos Mapuche. Por eso hablamos de presos políticos, todos en su totalidad estan presos por sus ideas, asi el Estado armó montajes para incriminarlos en hechos delictivos y someterlos a juicios irregulares, sentenciando condenas absurdas y penas que no condicen con el supuesto delito imputado, amen que todas las acusaciones fueron carentes de pruebas o pruebas fabricadas por el mismo aparato Estatal, como por ejemplo el recordado caso de la detención de la Machi Francisca Linconao.

Mientras tanto en el mundo del revès: El defensor de Genocidas, pedófilos, torturadores… el Sr.Victor Perez niega la existencia de presos políticos… Màs de 2000 presxs politicxs en las cárceles chilenas…

Bajo el manto del “todo Mapuche es Terrorista”, Piñera estableció una politica de Genocidio hacia la población Mapuche mediante la vieja táctica estadounidense heredada de su gran amor Augusto Pinochet, de crear el “enemigo de la Patria” para asì justificar la persecución, represión, asesinatos y detenciones arbitrarias que vienen perpetrando; sobre todo con los montajes judiciales, el más destacado de ellos fue la Operación Huracán, que bajo la implantacion de evidencia ( como hacen siempre) encarcelaron a varixs autoridades Mapuche.

También los tratos racistas, degradantes, a los que los someten continuamente, los arrestos por “portación de cara”, o sea solo por ser Mapuche; y el continuo robo a las tierras ancestrales y desplazamientos forzosos, por ende, en muchos casos obligandolos a ir a las grandes ciudades buscando diluir así la identidad cultural. Robo legitimizado y perpetrado por el Estado, el mismo Estado que responde a los grandes dueños del mundo: asesinos titulados empresarios con multinacionales que hicieron su fortuna a base de la explotación de los trabajadores, robo de tierras y extractivismo, grandes asesinos de cualquiera que “estorbe” sus negocios de ambiciòn, la misma que de no detenerla va a concluir exterminando la tierra misma y todo ser vivo que habita en ella.

El Exterminio, un acto Genocida, plan sistemático operado desde el Estado, que implica entre otras cosas, en terminos jurídicos ( terminos que tanto les gusta a los represores) la violacion del Art. 7 del Estatuto de Roma: “crimenes de Lesa Humanidad“ h) Persecución de un grupo o colectividad con identidad propia fundada en motivos políticos, raciales, nacionales, étnicos, culturales, religiosos, de género (..) Traslado forzoso (..) persecusión (..) Tortura. Recordemos que los crimenes de lesa humanidad NO PRESCRIBEN JAMÁS y son juzgados en una Corte internacional.

Todo ser nacido en Continente Americano tiene sangre nativa, están quiénes no negamos nuestra cultura, y el resto, que niega ser originario, porque es descendiente de esos pueblos que ante el exterminio y desplazamiento forzoso (Delito de Lesa Humanidad), fueron a parar a las grandes ciudades a tratar de no morir de hambre, asi pues es como comenzaron a esconder su cultura, hasta el punto de negarla a sus hijos, por miedo a que sean torturados, discriminados y sometidos a la pobreza eterna que les pesa en sus carnes…asi es la triste historia de como se diluye la cultura…hasta intentar desaparecerla por completo…

Pero…queda en cada quien honrar a sus antepasados, a sus padres, abuelos, o acatar lo que los Genicidas impusieron: borrar todo vestigio cultural que lleves en tu sangre, Diluirte al mar de la conformidad y sumisión adoptando la cultura del imperio y quedar en silencio…

Hace 528 años, unos asesinos Llegaban a las costas Américas para perpetuar el Genocidio mas grande de la Historia… 528 años después la práctica de exterminio nos sigue amenazando…

Encanto OC Event Week 3: Efecto Mariposa. One Family

(Cute inspiration about the twins when they're kids. Alejandra's inspired from Bingo Heeler from Bluey and Francisca's from movie version of Matilda Wormwood.)

🎶Bruno married Mercedes. Now they're expecting 2 babies. And that's how Abuela became an abuela! Let's go! Let's go! 🎶

Mercedes, like canon, spends her pregnancy nauseous and achy. Thankfully Julieta's cooking helps. Even Bruno gets up and makes simple food for his wife. He showers her belly with kisses and gentle taps for good luck. Pepa makes baby blankets. Casita creates a nursery in Bruno's room. Alma's excited to have a new generation who'll make the family stronger. When Mercedes suggests the name Alejandra for a girl, Bruno instantly loves it. He also loves Francisca if they have another. He thinks it's the perfect name for a fearless hero in a telenovela. They come up with Horacio and Inigo for sons. (Their middle names would be Pedro and Armando in honor of their fathers.) Interestingly, Horacio means "Timekeeper" and Inigo means "Fiery."😉

In May, Mercedes feels the beginning of labor late at night, but the contractions are far apart. She doesn't worry remembering how her mother's labor went with her half-sister. Pepa, Julieta and Alma are further in town the next morning. Instead of being alone, Bruno's there the whole time providing comfort. The rest of the family arrives just in time as labor gets stronger and Mercedes's water breaks! Then it gets crazy. Bruno's pushed out of the room. Pepa can't control her worry which causes a storm. Alma's frustrated and takes Pepa out to calm down. Julieta's keeping her cool the best she can. She's helped with deliveries, but she's nervous doing it for her sister-in-law. Bruno can't take it and tries pushing the door down, until Casita lets him through. He's there for the delivery of his daughters. With happy tears, he holds Francisca and washes her while Mercedes delivers a breech Alejandra. The family is overjoyed with two babies. Alma holds back crying, wishing Pedro was there. That night she checks on Bruno and quietly sobs. In the warm candlelight, he's snuggled with his wife and twin daughters; arms protectively around them. It's a bittersweet moment for Alma, but reassured knowing this won't end in tragedy.

Bruno and Mercedes share all the responsibilities of raising the twins. They change diapers, handle colic and crying fits in turns. Mercedes has a hard time nursing and worries she's failing as a mother. Bruno encourages her and stays up for late night feedings. Once she gets the knack of it, he savors watching. It fills his heart in a way he can't describe seeing his wife nurse their children. They develop a favorite nursing position. Cuddled in bed, Mercedes holding one, Bruno holding another against her breast and his free arm draped behind his wife. Their heads gently nudged so Bruno can whisper to Mercedes that he's proud and loves her so deeply.

Julieta and Pepa love being aunts. They spoil their nieces with hugs and smooches. Alma savors being an abuela and watching her grandchildren grow. Bruno's over the moon, the stars and beyond. He doesn't do visions as often and spends any free time with his babies. Even after a terrible day, he feels better seeing them. His favorite thing is to lie in the hammock, twins against his chest and softly tell stories. Their mostly about Mercedes. So we know how the twins were with their mama. How about with their dad? Since Bruno and Mercedes have a healthy marriage and truly love each other, it makes an impact on the twins' lives compared to Mercedes being with Pablo. As they grow, they can talk to Bruno about anything because he's understanding. There's no favorites or expectations.

Alejandra is Bruno's shadow. They love playing make believe games. She's a pile of giggles when Hernando and Jorge show up. She even tries her own versions with her blanket and mixing bowl. When Bruno has to leave for visions, she'll say "Don't worry Papi. All good visions today." When he comes back after a bad day, she'll say "Knock on wood Papi. Tomorrow's better." When she's scared around new people, she'll hide under his ruana. She'll do it trying to surprise him and Bruno plays along wondering where she went. She loves the rats and treats them like babies.

Francisca's still antisocial, but she bonds with Bruno. He actually sees her for who she is and does what she likes compared to Pablo. He reads with her and challenges her with puzzles/riddles. He draws with her while she learns sketching. Bruno's unbothered that she's not a hugger. She learns to write fast and leaves notes to the family about how she loves them. Bruno finds them on his desk and vision cave. Speaking of which, Francisca prefers watching his visions. She's not afraid of them and is curious how they work. She's more patient with animals and doesn't mind Bruno's rats. She can be arrogant, but gently reminded to be humble.

Mercedes and Bruno usually spend Saturdays outside with the girls. Going for long walks, playing in streams and having picnics. If the girls are sick or having nightmares, they're allowed in their bed. Francisca learns the piano young and she has concerts for her family (and the stuffed animals.) Alejandra makes bracelets and necklaces for everyone. For one of their parent's wedding anniversaries, the girls say they have to marry. (They're 3 then.) Mercedes and Bruno comedically reenact they're wedding ceremony. The next year, the girls do a play how their parents met. If Bruno's had a lot of visions requests, he has to deliver vision tablets to townspeople and the girls go with him. Sometimes together or just one. The deliveries aren't as tense with them. Some people have a better reign on their reactions when his children appear. Bruno's eternally grateful for his family and he'll do anything to make sure his daughters don't struggle like he did. He and Mercedes are going to have a major challenge when they get their gifts.

(I think I'll save the rest after the Encanto OC Event. My brain's tired sorting this all out. 😅)

Full Name: Francisca Valencia Salazar Cordova.

DOB: May 24th, 1920.

POB: Villavicencio, Colombia.

Likes/Hobbies: Books, coffee, chess, organizing, piano and solving mind games.

Dislikes: Social interactions, overly emotional people, migraines, vomiting and concepts she can’t understand. Always annoyed when Alejandra’s mice get in her stuff. Also dislikes avocados due to a bad experience.

Hair Color/Style: Black hair, shaggy pixie cut. Partially covers her ears. Has natural curls which are Type 3C. It used to be past her shoulders, but she cut it too short and it's growing out.

Talents: Sharp memory, keen eye for detail and sketching. Can imitate voices well and skilled with piano. Linguist.

Pets: A brown cat named Litzy. Francisca rescued her from drowning and nursed her to health. Litzy was only a couple weeks old then. Francisca wanted to sell her since she didn't care for another pet. (Alejandra's got her mice and steeds.) However, when she had a bad migraine, Litzy snuggled against her and somehow made brought comfort. Litzy stayed ever since. Not necessarily a pet but also has a mule for travel named Vendaval. She trusts him more than Alejandra's horse and he's bigger than a common mule.

Favorite Food: She'd say coffee, but she likes Almojábana or Arepa Boyacanese.

Career: The town doctor's assistant.

Family: Fraternal twin to Alejandra. (Francisca's the firstborn by 15 minutes.) Only close to her mom Mercedes Reyes and never was with her dad Pablo Salazar. Had her maternal grandma, Perla, not died when she was little, she'd have another close family member. Honestly, don't bother asking her about her other family. She has no interest in them.

Backstory: Despite seeming a little slow with learning to crawl and walk, Francisca became an intelligent child. She learned to read on her own and play chess. She quickly learned piano and understood mathematics. It wasn't really appreciated. Francisca was (and still is) antisocial. She's never been good with interactions. She can be arrogant and even sardonic. Pablo tried to bond with her, but always found it difficult. Honestly, he tried doing things a normal child would like, not see what his daughter enjoyed. Most of her family thought she was too strange and unpleasant. That and she as she grew older, she wasn't afraid to call out...um, BS... when she saw it. This made her the black sheep. Family would say that despite being smart, she was heartless. Anyone who knew the family saw her that way. There was gossip. The only ones Francisca gets along with best is Mercedes and her own twin Alejandra. They never saw her as a problem.

Francisca started getting migraines at 5 years old. Her family figured it was genetic. Mercedes's father was reported to have these often. It included the symptoms of light sensitivity, nausea and vomiting. Even with the pain, Francisca's never been afraid of a hard day's work. She's never been intimidated by learning and built up so much knowledge which has helped her. Work smart and work hard.

After her parents' separation and living in Cali, near the rural parts, she was a farm hand tending big fields. She spent any free time at the libraries learning about languages and science. She researched every medical book she could find to cure Malaria while Mercedes was slowly dying. Only 15, Francisca was heartbroken losing her dear mother and concerned for the future. She couldn't let grief and worry overcome. They needed someone to lead and provide. She'd do it. Having to survive on their own and being fired over her behaviors, Francisca found herself desperate. She used her wits as a con artist. She could talk her way out of anything when she analyzed a person's weakness. She had developed no qualms of breaking up relationships, sowing distrust etc. You do what you have to do right?

She was noticed by a group of brothers who were impressed and offered to let her join their con artist team. It worked for a couple years, until things went awry, and they offered a deal Francisca despised. It was asking for Alejandra to spend a night with one of the brothers even if it meant by force. Francisca refused and threatened even when they threatened her. They wouldn't take no for an answer. Francisca managed to trick them into getting arrested. One of them was killed in a fight. Though she didn't kill him, Francisca was arrested. She reassured Alejandra she'd get out soon by convincing the courts. Her confidence got the best of her.

Francisca wasn't able to fool anyone, and she was angry her tactics failed. AOn top of it all, she became terribly ill in prison and grew frail. What ailed her, the prison didn't know and sent her off to another place. She was in a whirl of nonstop pain as her migraines grew worse: the worst pain of her life. Alejandra wasn't allowed to visit or even told the new location! It was a minister who stepped in and helped her slowly recover. He believed her story and encouraged her to find a new calling than tricking others. It took a long time, but they finally got Francisca free. She was overcome with joy to reunite with her twin. Those 6 months was the longest time they'd ever been apart.

Now to the movie's timeline. Some things haven't changed for Francisca now that she's 30. Migraines still persist, she can still be insensitive to others, but she still lives with Alejandra. Francisca continues working hard but found her new calling as the town doctor's assistant. Impressed by her medical knowledge, he offered the job, and she gained many experiences. She's helped save lives, deliver babies and fix broken bones. It doesn't change the town's opinion of her. She's been nicknamed, the Green-Eyed Viper, Heartless and Perra. They'll joke about her. "You know where Francisca Cordova will go when she dies? Nowhere. She's soulless!" "Ay Cordova, have you sold your soul? Oh wait. You couldn't have! You never had one!"

Francisca knows all of that but doesn't let it get to her. She won't let anything get to her. Not even a magical place with a sentient house and people with powers! Not even an old friend of her mom who just may understand her so well!

Made magic doors for my Encanto OCs. No spoilers, but I said they'd receive gifts. Just pretend their gift is being shown. 😅 I made these with a Picrew I found:

Alejandra would have pyrokinesis. There'd be a flame symbol at the front and also spreading around the door.

Francisca receives hindsight. (Seeing the past.) Instead of an hourglass like Bruno, she'd have a sundial symbol. Sundials make a shadow to tell time and she views shadows of the past. I'd imagine decorating the rest of the door, there'd be patterns reminiscent to Bruno's.

Encanto OC Event Week 2: Francisca and Bruno. Two Black Sheep.

(Far behind than I planned! Need to get another one completed!)

These two first hear about the other before meeting. Alejandra talks a little about her sister and when she arrives home, she has plenty to tell. Pablo's fight, the con artists gang, finding a secluded paradise and a kind family. She respects the Madrigal's privacy by not discussing their gifts. Though she wants to because it's beneficial. She shows Francisca the tea Julieta makes for Bruno's migraines. Teas are nothing new to Francisca, but she keeps it. She's not surprised by their father having warned Alejandra it wouldn't go well. She knows they'll have to be vigilant with the gang. However, if they were southwest, far from Boyacá, she's confident they won't appear soon. As for some secluded paradise, she has no interest. She's curious that this family knew their mother, but doesn't think they'll learn anything new. She's not sure about this Bruno Madrigal that Alejandra talks about so highly. Especially how he has these funny alter egos called Hernando and Jorge. (Anyone who puts a bucket on their head has insanity issues.) She brushes it all off and continues with her busy life.

After Bruno arrives to Boyaca, Francisca's not there due to work, shows up for dinner. She's confused seeing a small, slightly unkempt man. When Alejandra introduces them, Francisca's not impressed. It's hard to impress her anyway, but she's analyzing him. She can tell from the ruana he picks loose threads and likely has insomnia due to the dark circles under his eyes. Oh, and great! He's a rat person. (Beatriz tagged along wanting to see Alejandra.) She has no interest in him and isn't thrilled he's staying for a few days. At first Bruno's annoyed by Francisca's dismissiveness but trusts Alejandra saying her sister's not social. Besides, he knows there's more than meets the eye.

He sees a gentler side to Francisca with her cat, Litzy. How she and her twin sit alone at night in a peaceful silence. When Francisca goes through a terrible migraine, he finds Alejandra trying to comfort her twin. It's nearly identical to Julieta and Pepa when he had them. Alejandra tells Bruno the tea from Julieta didn't work. It wasn't a quick fix like her food. Bruno admits that when he took it, it would slowly help him recover since migraines are a side effect from his gift. It should work fast for an average person, but why not for Francisca? After she's recovered, Bruno asks her about her experience. Francisca sarcastically comments he must be a doctor. No, but he's had them all his life so why not discuss? He remembers Mercedes mentioned her family had a history of migraines. Francisca reluctantly sits down and talks with him. She goes over in detail her remedies and the timing of migraines. It seems like she's holding something back.

Bruno's a bit stunned he's concerned for her. She's not like Alejandra, being more independent and calculated. Yet, like with Alejandra, he's seeing a part of himself in her and wants to help. They don't have anything in common though...until she offers to give him copies of old theater books. Bruno's pleasantly surprised since he already has those and didn't think she liked theater. Her answer? "I don't. I just read them because I was bored." It leads into the topic of reading which leads to Mercedes. Francisca's not as stiff talking about her and gives sparse details about their lives.

She asks him a strange question: does he have any kind of visions? He admits he has future visions. As nerve wracking as it is to try a vision outside from home, he'll try. Francisca thinks he's joking using some process to see them. She's thinking more medically than fantasy. She declines saying he wouldn't understand. When he inquires why she suddenly brought up visions, she admits she has some disorder where...she sees things. She explains how she's researched and diagnosed. Bruno's not sure, but listens. Maybe she's clairvoyant like him or something along the lines. Francisca refuses to buy the clairvoyance since magic isn't real. Sort of frustrating, but Bruno realizes she's practical and if she saw the Encanto she'd probably understand. They talk a little about being the odd one in the family: the black sheep. They gain a new respect for each other after this. She admits she likes him a little because he reminds her of Alejandra.

When Bruno leaves, he reminds the girls the family would be happy to see them and they're welcome anytime. He also tells Francisca if she ever wants to talk about visions, he'll listen. A while later, Alejandra and a begruding Francisca visit the Encanto. She actually wanted to see just Bruno with more inquiries about visions. Alejandra jokingly tells him that means she missed him. The Madrigals are glad to see Alejandra, but it's another story with Francisca. She can't comprehend magic or the gifts. She especially can't grasp how Casita is alive. Francisca feels like she's going mad and there's discord among the Madrigals. She even offends Casita and causes a temporary rivalry. Bruno and Alejandra find themselves having to keep the peace. It doesn't take long for Antonio to like her thanks to Litzy coming along and telling him sweet stories about her owner.

Bruno offers Francisca the tablet of young Mercedes holding a baby. He says Alejandra told him to keep it but wants Francisca to decide. She checks it thoroughly and says it's neither of them. She admits something she's kept to herself since Mercedes died. Mercedes was writing in her final days. Francisca found notes for her and Alejandra. Mercedes wrote heartfelt memories and encouragement. Francisca found discarded drafts, but one with few details that left shock. It was Mercedes admitting to the girls, she had a miscarriage. From what Francisca could gather, Mercedes kept trying to reword it and finally decided not to reveal. She's not sure when it happened, but she's certain it's when the twins were toddlers. Bruno's shocked and devastated to know Mercedes went through it.

Not long after, Francisca admits she's curious how he has visions. She's speechless seeing a vision of Alejandra in danger. It's the same one Bruno had which made him travel to Boyaca. He's concerned when it appears she goes into a panic attack and suddenly goes rigid. To his amazement, her eyes are now a faintly growing dark green! They suddenly stop and Francisca collapses as if she's fought for her life. Bruno gives her time to breathe and when she demands he can't tell anyone, he reassures. She confesses everything since Bruno's earned her trust.

She's had visions of the past since she was 5 and never told anybody besides her twin. Not even Mercedes. She's kept it secret in fear of being deemed insane and being locked up. She has little control of the visions and holding them back causes worse migraines. Her 6 months in prison was an endless blur of visions leaving her weak. The minister who helped her leave was only called because the guards thought she was possessed, but he was experienced enough to know this was different. Francisca couldn't believe when he suggested her visions could be from higher powers and maybe even a gift. Now? She's not sure about anything. Bruno doesn't know either, but promises she's safe and nobody will lock her up. She's had to take care of everybody else. Now it's her turn to be helped and he'll do it.

He suddenly wonders if Alejandra has something similar and Francisca only says, "You'd have to ask her."

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

I've been trying to word it without spoilers, but I'm getting tired of keeping things secret. I'm following people who have ideas like me, and I just want to jump in!

Alejandra was the first inspiration about a month after I saw the movie. I kept having this idea of a girl (late teens-early/twenties and unnamed) going through family issues. She doesn't have a good father and her mother died when she was little. Bruno, being his sweet and kind self, was trying to comfort her. His kindness moved her to tears. She actually felt like he was being a better parent than her own dad. It's kind of weird, but I couldn't shake that idea. I kept thinking of scenarios where she and Bruno click being similar in personality and interests. Through bonding, he becomes a father figure to her, and she becomes part of the Madrigals. There's something about Bruno that makes me think he'd be a good dad. It all just fell into place with Alejandra.

Then I had another idea. I thought what if Alejandra was actually the daughter of a childhood friend to PB&J. 💛💚💙 Well, Bruno mostly. That's when inspiration for Mercedes happened. I wanted her to be the perfect friend for Bruno: similar hobbies, complimentary traits, and fully loyal despite how he's treated. Then something tragic tore them apart and they hadn't seen each other in decades. Along comes her daughter years later and there's a connection! It's funny, the first post I did for my Encanto OCs was Mercedes and she wasn't the first inspiration.

Francisca came last. I felt there should be an antithesis to Alejandra's gentle personality. As cliche as it sounds, a twin who was her opposite. Enter Francisca, the bitter to Alejandra's sweet. She and Bruno have a different process. Though there is something they have in common that Bruno catches and helps them slowly bond.

The twins would have gifts despite being much older than five. Francisca has the opposite of Bruno, the gift of hindsight while Alejandra has pyrokinesis. I wanted them to have gifts that would be difficult, and something feared. Fire is dangerous, especially when not controlled. Someone saying they've seen your past to the smallest detail would be creepy. Don't get me started on how the process works for Francisca.

The plot for Miracles Comes in Pairs came along and I'm so slowly writing it. I will say there's a lot more to Mercedes's past. Maybe I'll have a separate post about it and put a spoiler warning.
