Chpt 2
There is a tall man walking into an Adoption Agency. He has black hair, glasses, a green button up shirt, and blue jeans. He has filled out papers for a child with a very “special case” when it comes to adoption. He is currently comping in to adopt a young girl named Y/n and another very unusual kid that must be adopted with Y/n. That’s what it says on the papers at least.
The young girl was sitting on the couch in the loft room waiting for her new guardians arrival. She didn’t think much of, knowing that she’d be stuck with the same mayor of “parent” that she always felt with. Ruby was sitting next to her, worrying about how the father may act like and how she could make a good first impression, or if this guy was even a good person to begin with.
You see, Y/n and Ruby both had some..family issues throughout growing up. Ruby knows that her treatment wasn’t as bad as Y/n’s since gens don’t need sleep, eat , or any other human things. Y/n on the other hand, hasn’t been cared for like a normal human child should be cared for, and Ruby was aware of that.
“So” Ruby started looking at Y/n. “What do you think this new guy looks like?” Ruby was trying to start a conversation with her to brighten the mood.
”I don’t know” Y/n said still looking down. “ We don’t know anything about this person. What if he’s bad? Doesn’t matter what he looks like” Y/n said with a meanish tone.
Ruby stared at her awkwardly, seeing how she failed to cheer up her best friend. She decided to nudge it off for now and stay quiet for Y/n’s sake. Then, Y/n finally looks over to Ruby. “ Sorry if that came off as harsh, I’m just worried that this new guy will be terrible like the others. I know that the facility said that he would be a better person, but I don’t believe them”. Y/n says looking a bit sat and worried.
”Don’t worry, I’m sure that he’s good. And if he’s not then we can try again!” Ruby said in an attempt to cheer her friend up again, but this time worked a bit.
”Thanks Ruby, your always there for me huh?” Y/n said rubbing the top of Ruby’s head or hair I should say.
”Hey! Stop that!” Ruby said laughing trying to push your hand off.
”Y/n, Ruby”. One of the facility workers came in. “ He’s here. Please come with me”. The two girls were interrupted but both Y/n and Ruby obliged. Both girls walked into the room that held their new parent.
Once they were in the room, they saw a tall man that didn’t look scary as Y/n or Ruby thought he’d be. “ Hello, you must be Y/n and Ruby” he stated with a gentle yet study voice. “ I’m Henry Greyson, it’s a pleasure to meet you both.” He stuck up his hand and Ruby went to shake it, while Y/n was cautiously looking at him.
”Y/n!” Ruby whispered yelled to the girl. “ Your supposed to shake hands?” Y/n looked over at Ruby, but ignored her anyway.
” I see” Henry put his hand down.” Well, let’s just hope you get use to me soon huh?” He said in a joking matter.
” Yes” Y/n said in a voice that didn’t really care.
”Mr. Greyson. Please finish signing the rest of these papers so you can leave”. One of the facility workers said handing over the last of the papers.
“Of course” Henry stated walking over to the counter to finish writing down important information.
Y/n and Ruby stood there is silence, until Ruby decided to break it. “ He’s not that bad, right?”
” Who knows, this could all be just an act. He may not care about us and just want the money for him and his family”. Y/n said in a mean but worried tone.
” Come on girls” Henry said after finishing the last of the papers.” Let’s head to the car and show you guys where you’ll be living at for now on”.
Y/n and Ruby both agreed and walked outside with their new parent, saying goodbye to a few children and facility workers on the way. Once they came to a stop, they saw a Toyota Tacoma black truck parked in a parking space. Both of the girls have never seen really nice cars or clean ones to say.
“I see you guys are pretty amazed with my car I see huh?” Henry chuckled while unlocking the car and opening the door for the girls.
” Shiny “ Ruby’s eyes turned to stars and she hopped in the car excited already buckling her seat. Henry looked over at the other girl who was cautiously looked at the car deciding wether she should get in the car or not.
”Are you coming?” Henry asked curiously. “ I won’t bite, and neither will the car “ He stated in a joking matter.
”…Yeah” Y/n said as she sat next to Ruby. Ruby must have noticed the look of worry on Y/n’s face and held her hand.
” It’s gonna be okay” Ruby said giving Y/n a light squeeze with her hot hands. Y/n got use to the feeling of Ruby’s skin when she was younger so it wasn’t something for her to fret about.
”Okay girls! You both buckled?” Henry asked.
“Yes!” Both girls said though Y/n’s voice was a bit quieter.
”Alright then! Let’s head on over to your new home”. Henry said with excitement in his voice. Y/n was still cautious about this whole situation, but, it feels better than her past families. She may not be able to trust this man, but maybe she will later.
                           The present day
Over the past 3 months, Y/n and Ruby had learned a lot about Henry. First of all, he was single. He had no family and that was one of the reason why Y/n and Ruby were adopted. Also, he worked as a heart surgeon and was on the rich side of society. Y/n and Ruby were treated like actual children. They both got paid attention too, got plenty of food, and even got their own rooms! Of course,. Y/n and Ruby will sometimes sleep together since they are still getting use to be separated from each other.
Ruby started to trust Henry way faster than Y/n. She even called him dad sometimes. Y/n on the other hand, still didn’t fully trust him. After so many years of neglect, she hasn’t fully healed or is use to this new life. She is trying her best to get along with her new caretaker, but it’s something that cannot be changed that quickly.
Currently, Ruby and Y/n are in the backyard. Both are looking around for critters to watch and find. They both enjoyed doing that ever since they were little, well ever since Y/n was little. They were over by rocks and trees.
”Hey look!” Ruby said in excitement after finding a snake.
”That’s a Ring-neck snake” Y/n said to Ruby. Ruby has been on earth for many years now, but still can get confused with different creatures since most look the same to her.
”Are they venomous?” Ruby asked, snake already in her hands.
“Not to humans “ Y/n stated lifting another rock that hid two big roads under it. “ Aww~. Look at these guys”. Y/n picked up the toads and showed them to Ruby.
” Wow those are big fellas huh?!” Ruby said excited before putting the snake back where she found it and taking one of the toads from Y/n’s hands.
“Awww it’s so cute! And bumpy” Ruby laughed as Y/n chuckled beside her.
”GIRLS!” Henry called from the house. “LUNCH IS READY!” Ruby and Y/n out the toads back in their spots and rushed to the house.
“What’s for lunch?” Ruby said while walking into the kitchen. Now, gems don’t have to eat, Ruby has already explained that to Y/n and Henry, but she still likes to taste food and likes to try to “fit in” with society.
”Pasta!” Henry said while serving the two girls food.
”This looks delicious!” Ruby said eating pasta with Y/n for the 3rd time. Both of the girls were never served such great food and have only ate pasta three times in their life! All from Henry’s place.
”It is” Y/n chuckled taking a bite.
”Well I’m glad you like it “ Henry stated sitting down across from the two girls. All three of them sat together in a comfortable silence. Until Henry started to speak up.” I have some news for you girls and I don’t know if you’ll like it or not.” Henry said with a halfway smile.
”What’s the news?” Y/n asked with a sort of worried expression upon her face.
”Well, you know how my job at the hospital has been…not that great lately?” Henry asked
”Yeah! You complain to me and Y/n ALL the time!” Ruby talked a little bit louder than before.
Henry chuckled and began to speak again” I’ve decided that I will be attending to a different hospital”.
Y/n and Ruby were quiet. They were both confused on why he had told them that information. So Y/n spoke up.
”Why are you telling us that?” She stated in a rudish tone.
” In order to for me to work in that area, we’ll have to move” Henry said taking another bite.
”WHAT!” Y/n and Ruby said in union.
“ I know you guys think this is a bad idea, but maybe moving out of the city would be good for you two.” Henry said.
What was he talking about? Y/n and Ruby both LOVED their new life even if one of them barely showed it. Plus, both of them aren’t city kids. Has Henry even been paying attention to them? Or is that just something he needs to say to try to convince both of the girls to be okay with leaving.
They would miss so much. Adapting to different life styles was already hard enough, now changing again?! They would miss their rooms, the streets, their school, the backyard and every creature that they’ve ever found back there.
Henry noticed the looks on their faces and looked away guilty. Ruby seemed to notice and decided to give it a try.
” So…where is this ‘area’ at?” Ruby asked warning a side glance from Y/n.
“ Oh!” Henry said looking at both girls again. “ I haven’t told you where we’re moving to yet huh? It’s called ‘ Beach City’”.
“Beach City?!” Y/n hit the table out of surprise. “ We’re moving to Delaware!? We live in California ( sorry if you don’t, you can change it), that’s across the US!?.
“Yes I know it’s far and it may take a while, but it’s great there! I grew up in Delaware and it was great!” Henry said trying to excite the girl. Sadly this didn’t change anything.
”Yeah? But did you grow up in that area? Beach City?” Y/n said with an irritated tone.
”Well..not..in..that..area” Henry said slowly.
”Then you can’t tell us it’s great if you’ve never even been there before.” Y/n got off her seat and walked to her room upstairs.
”Jeez” Henry sighed, rubbing his temple lifting up his glasses a bit. Henry knows about what has happened in Y/n’s past and knew that she would act differently towards him. He knows that he should be use to it by now but he’s still not.
”I’ll go check on her!”Ruby said jumping off her seat and running up the stairs into Y/n’s room. “Y/n? Why did you do that? I know that you don’t like this but at least give him a chance?”
” I know Ruby, but it’s just- I don’t want this to change. I don’t want anything to change. The house, the neighborhood, the school, even the mean grumpy old man that lives next door to us”. Y/n said laying on her comfortable bed.
Ruby chuckles at the last statement” I know, I’m scared too. But Mr. Greyson has been so good to us. Don’t you want to let him know how much you appreciate his effort?” Ruby said. “ And besides, I REALLY want to go to a beach” Ruby said with puppy dog eyes” If your not doing it for him, then can you at least do it for me?”
Y/n looked over at Ruby, noticing the puppy dog eyes that she learned from a dog that once came up to her and begged her for her donut. Y/n let out a loud king sigh and sat up facing Ruby.
”For you”  Y/n started. “ I will do this for you.” As soon as Y/n said those words, Ruby got excited.
”EEEEEE” Ruby screeched jumping up and down on Y/n’s bed. “I’ve never been to a beach before! What do you think it’ll be like!”
” I’ve never been to one either. But I’m sure we can look up pictures later” Y/n said picking up their phone.
“ We should tell Henry!”  Ruby said jumping off Y/n’s bed.
”..Yeah” Y/n said, recalling the events that happened earlier.” I do need to apologize anyway. And maybe he’s right? Who knows, there could be more creatures that we haven’t met in Delaware yet?” Y/n said trying to look on the bright side of this new change.
”Yeah that’s the spirit! We might even meet a new grumpy old man!” Ruby yelled excited.” Let’s go Y/n!”
”Im coming!” Y/n giggled at her friend’s antics.
Both Y/n and Ruby raced down the stairs into the kitchen, hoping to find Henry in the room. But he wasn’t there. They both walked over to his room and knocked.
”Yes?” Henry said opening the door while on a phone call.
” We’ve both agreed that we will move to Delaware with you!” Ruby exclaimed.
” Huh? Really ok good. I’m actually on the phone with the airline. I was gonna cancel but never mind!” Henry puts the phone back up to his ear.” Hello?. Yes. I would like to keep the tickets please. Ok thank you.” Henry hung up and walked back over to the girls. Y/n began to speak up.
” Hey Henry?” Y/n said looking at Henry. As soon as she got his attention she continued” I apologize for how I acted earlier”.
”it’s alright kiddo, we all make mistakes and you were just scared. I get it change it hard. But I promise you both that you will have a great time in Delaware.”
”When do we board the plane?” Ruby interrupted with interest and excitement since she and Y/n have never rid in a plane before.
“Two weeks”. Henry said looking at his calendar. “ I would start packing now before the trucks come. Their gonna pick up our stuff earlier and get a ship to transfer the cars.
”Okay well do that” Y/n half smiled walking with Ruby up to her room.
She didn’t know why, but somehow she feels like she’s gonna enjoy her new life at Beach City.
Yas I have finished chapter uno! There may be some spelling Mistakes or whatever but it Otay 👍. I hope you enjoyed this. I know that the reader hasn’t met the Crystal gems yet, but I wanted to show off Y/n’s life a bit and how the neglect over the years affected her. Don’t worry you guys will meet probably on the next chapter! Which I am working on now because I have insomnia and I can never sleep 😂😭. But this was pretty long and I’m going to either make them this long or longer because I know that people don’t like short stories, or at least most. Anyways goodbye and stay tuned!

(via How a Military Base in Illinois Helps Keep Weapons Flowing to Ukraine - The New York Times) How a Military Base in Illinois Helps Keep Weapons Flowing to Ukraine Thousands of logisticians are responsible for making sure that U.S. military aid reaches its destination, on planes, trains and ships.
SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. — In a room dimly lit by television screens, dozens of airmen tapped away at computers and worked the phones. Some were keeping watch over a high-priority mission to move a Russian-made Mi-17 helicopter from a base in Arizona to a destination near Ukraine’s border.
Earlier that day, a civilian colleague had checked a spreadsheet and found a C-17 transport plane in Washington state that was available to pick up the helicopter and begin a daylong trip.
It was up to the airmen to give the plane’s crew its orders, make sure the plane took off and landed on time and handle any problems along the way.
The C-17 would fly from McChord Air Force Base near Tacoma to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base outside Tucson, where the helicopter was parked in a repository for retired military airplanes known as “the boneyard.”
“So it’s two and a half hours from McChord to Davis-Monthan,” said Col. Bob Buente, reviewing the first leg of the journey. “Then four hours to load, then they’ll take off about 7:30 tonight. Then five hours to Bangor, then we’ll put them to bed because of the size of the next leg.”
From Bangor, Maine, the cargo flight — call sign: Reach 140 — would leave for Europe, the colonel said.
Since the war in Ukraine began four months ago, the Biden administration has contributed billions of dollars in military aid to the Ukrainian government, including American-made machine guns, howitzers and artillery rocket launchers, as well as Russian-designed weaponry that the country’s military still uses, like the Mi-17 helicopter.
The Pentagon has drawn many of the items from its own inventory. But how they reach Ukraine often involves behind-the-scenes coordination by teams at a military base in Illinois, about 25 miles east of St. Louis.
There at Scott Air Force Base, where a half-dozen retired transport planes are on display just outside the main gate, several thousand logisticians from each branch of the armed forces work at the United States Transportation Command — or Transcom. In military parlance, it is a “combatant command,” equal to better-known units that are responsible for parts of the globe — like Central Command and Indo-Pacific Command — and takes its orders directly from the secretary of defense.
Transcom has worked out the flow of every shipment of military aid from the United States to Ukraine, which began in August and kicked into high gear after the Russian invasion.
The process begins when the government in Kyiv sends a request to a call center on an American base in Stuttgart, Germany, where a coalition of more than 40 nations coordinates the aid. Some of the orders are filled by a U.S. partner or ally, and the rest are handled by the United States — routed through U.S. European Command, which is also in Stuttgart, to Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III and Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who discuss them in weekly meetings with the service chiefs and combatant commanders.
If the desired items are available, and the combatant commanders decide that giving them to Ukraine will not unduly harm their own war plans, General Milley makes a recommendation to Mr. Austin, who in turn makes a recommendation to President Biden. If the president signs off, Transcom figures out how to move the aid to an airfield or port near Ukraine.
The order to move the Russian helicopter zipped across the base in Illinois from Transcom’s headquarters to a one-story brick building housing the 618th Air Operations Center, where red-lit clocks offered the local time at major military aviation bases in California, Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, Qatar and Germany.
Better Understand the Russia-Ukraine War
History and Background: Here’s what to know about Russia and Ukraine’s relationship and the causes of the conflict.
How the Battle Is Unfolding: Russian and Ukrainian forces are using a bevy of weapons as a deadly war of attrition grinds on in eastern Ukraine.
Russia’s Brutal Strategy: An analysis of more than 1,000 photos found that Russia has used hundreds of weapons in Ukraine that are widely banned by international treaties.
Outside Pressures: Governments, sports organizations and businesses are taking steps to punish Russia. Here are some of the sanctions adopted so far and a list of companies that have pulled out of the country.

Colonel Buente runs the day-to-day operations at the 618th Air Operations Center, where about 850 active-duty airmen, reservists and civilians spend their days planning missions like the helicopter’s trip, he said. Making sure those plans are carried out falls to a smaller group — working in shifts of 60 people, 24 hours a day, every day of the year — that follows the stream of missions posted on a constantly updated screen centered on the back wall all the way to completion.
It is the same center that orchestrated the mass evacuation of Americans and Afghans from Afghanistan’s capital in August. On the busiest day then, 21,000 passengers were flown out of the Kabul airport, with planes taking off or landing every 90 minutes, officials said.
That was a busy time for Transcom, which on an average day not only plans and coordinates about 450 cargo flights but also oversees about 20 cargo ships, along with a network of transcontinental railroads and more than a thousand trucks — all of which routinely carry war matériel.
Live Updates: Russia-Ukraine War
Updated July 4, 2022, 1:57 p.m. ET1 hour ago1 hour ago
Ethnic Russians in an Estonian city are beginning to question Putin’s war.
Amid war and mounting losses, a mood of resignation and little appetite for compromise.
A spate of arrests suggests the Kremlin is further clamping down on dissent.
The flights also transport humanitarian assistance and other supplies when needed, including shipments of baby formula in May to alleviate a shortage in the United States.
Commanding all of it is Gen. Jacqueline D. Van Ovost of the Air Force, who is just the second female officer to lead one of the Pentagon’s 11 combatant commands.
For the aid shipments to Ukraine, the planning begins long before the White House announces a new aid package, she said.
“We cannot wait until the president signs or the secretary gives an order before we do the necessary planning,” General Van Ovost said in an interview in her office, where a photo of Amelia Earhart hung on the wall. “We’re watching it evolve,” the general said of the discussions about aid, “and we create plans that are sitting at the ready.”
Mr. Biden authorized the first U.S. military equipment and weapons for Ukraine — a $60 million package — on Aug. 27. At the time, it took about a month to get the items onto a plane after they were approved, according to General Van Ovost, a test pilot who flew cargo planes.
The White House has announced 13 subsequent aid packages for Ukraine, and the planning process has advanced enough that it now takes less than a day from the president approving a shipment to having the first items loaded onto a plane, she said. Three of the packages in the war’s first 29 days totaled $1.35 billion. As of Friday, the United States has committed $6.9 billion in military aid to Kyiv since Russia invaded.
Transcom’s operations center decides whether to send aid via cargo plane or by ship based on how quickly European Command needs it to arrive. Though military cargo planes like C-17s offer the fastest delivery option, they incur the highest costs. About half of Transcom’s airfreight is handled by a fleet of contracted, commercially owned aircraft, including 747s, each of which can carry double the weight a C-17 can.
Whenever possible, though, military planners send goods on cargo ships, a less expensive option.
“We’ve activated two vessels and used multiple liner service vessels to deliver cargo bound for Ukraine,” said Scott Ross, a spokesman for the command. The vessels and more than 220 flights had delivered just over 19,000 tons of military aid to Ukraine since August, he said.
On one of the large screens in Colonel Buente’s operations center, about a dozen missions were listed in order of importance. At the top were two “1A1” missions supporting some of the command’s most important customers: the president, vice president, the secretaries of state and defense as well as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Immediately below those missions was Reach 140, the C-17 flying to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona. Thousands of aircraft have baked there in the sun, including 13 Russian-made Mi-17 helicopters that the United States had bought for Afghanistan before Kabul fell to the Taliban.
In recent months, 12 of the helicopters were shipped to countries near Ukraine, returned to flying condition and handed over to Ukrainian pilots for the fight with Russia.
As the airmen tracked the C-17, a handful of soldiers and civilians in a small Army-run section of Transcom monitored a separate mission: four cargo trains moving across the United States as well as several cargo ships, some of which were owned by the Navy.
One of the Navy vessels was heading from Norfolk, Va., to a military port in North Carolina, where it would be loaded with ammunition for M142 HIMARS rocket launchers long desired by the Ukrainian military. The rockets, packed in bundles of six and loaded into 20-foot shipping containers, were also en route to the port. Cranes would soon lift the metal boxes off tractor-trailers and rail cars, stack them aboard the ship and lock them into place for a journey at sea lasting about two weeks.
Most of the Pentagon’s military aid sent to Ukraine on ships goes to two German ports — one on the North Sea and the other on the Baltic.
To keep potential adversaries from closing off routes for Ukraine military aid, Army planners can set up operations at any one of dozens of ports on the two seas. Russian warships have largely shut down the most direct routes for resupply missions — Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea.
At the 618th, where presidents and secretaries of defense can reassign planes in a heartbeat for emergencies around the world, a screen that usually displays a classified map of global threats to military air and sea shipments was blacked out for security reasons while a reporter was in the room.
And three of the televisions were set to cable news because, as Colonel Buente explained, “we usually end up reacting to breaking news.”

Guardianship is a divine job. Divine beings are wired for it. Sometimes, however, a peculiar mix of elements draws a less than angelic creature into the mix. These unusual combinations tend to be volatile in nature and the human involved usually doesn’t live long. When he gets bombarded into being a guardian, Dean plans on getting rid of ‘his human’ in a heartbeat. Until he recognises the mess of dark hair and those blue eyes. The last time he saw them, their owner had been sprawled against his bed sheets. Well, fuck me, was the most eloquent thought he could muster in his head. And then they dumped a phonebook worth of rules in his lap. Dean had always despised rules.

I don’t know if I’d survive that,” he says. Cas looks up at Dean with startled eyes. What would happen if Dean and Cas managed to pull their heads out of their asses while they were in purgatory? Top 5 Best Exhaust Upgrades for the Toyota Tacoma
The Toyota Tacoma has been America’s best-selling mid-size pickup for 16 years in a row, and has been outselling the nearest two competitors by more than two-to-one just last year. How did the Japanese automaker achieve this feat? Well, the Toyota Tacoma did not get there by following others. Instead, it set the groundwork for its overwhelming success by offering a wide range of models to appeal to just about any pickup truck buyer. Six model trims include the work-ready SR; high-style, high-value SR5; athletic TRD Sport; adventurous TRD Off-Road; ultimate off-road TRD Pro; and luxurious Limited.
With that, some Tacoma owners want to further enhance their truck by taking advantage of the plentiful aftermarket products available for the mid-size pickup. One of the most popular mods to do is upgrade the Tacoma’s exhaust system. Replacing the OEM cat-back on your truck is recommended for a number of reasons, because it is a great way to increase the power, styling, sound, and performance of your vehicle. Swapping out the restrictive, quiet factory exhaust with a free-flowing aftermarket upgrade will take your Tacoma to the next level with improved styling, an enhanced soundtrack, higher power figures, and better fuel efficiency.
Here, we have listed the top 5 cat-back exhausts for your third-gen (2016+) Toyota Tacoma based on the aforementioned factors. These are in no particular order and check all of the boxes that pertain to a quality system that looks good, sounds great, and is fully functional. Be sure to also check out the other exhaust systems available for your Tacoma truck right here.
1. Borla S-Type Cat-Back Exhaust System
The& Borla S-Type Cat-Back Exhaust with Single Side Exit is a top choice for your Toyota Tacoma because it provides increased power figures, an enhanced soundtrack, improved performance, and good looks in a high-strength package. Alex Borla actually coined the term “cat back” when he introduced the bolt-on replacement performance exhaust back in 1978. All Borla cat-back systems use vehicle-specific (not universal) mufflers that are designed, tested, and optimized for your make and model to deliver the highest levels of overall sound and performance.
Borla S-Type Mufflers (like the one featured in this product) are engineered to provide exceptional exhaust emission and internal power generation. These mufflers use multi-core technology and are manufactured from T-304 corrosion-resistant stainless steel which offers long-lasting durability. They are equipped with ultra-smooth mandrel bends that ensure maximum flow and power. The design reduces pressure build-up that could dampen the engine’s performance, thereby giving you better horsepower and torque numbers.
The Borla S-Type exhaust is perfect for those looking to enjoy a more aggressive exhaust note that will stop people in their tracks. With a black chrome T-304 stainless steel exhaust tip, this exhaust not only delivers in performance but also in aesthetics. Lastly, the entire system has been precision CNC-machined to guarantee a precise fit without any issues to provide a seamless installation.
Features:
Increases horsepower and torque
Better fuel economy at cruising speeds
S-Type provides an aggressive exhaust tone
Straight-through muffler design reduces backpressure
Mandrel-bent stainless steel tubes reduce restriction
Made from austenitic stainless steel for long-lasting durability
Fully welded construction for the ultimate strength
Exhaust tips come in polished and black chrome options
Includes everything required for installation
Backed by the exclusive Borla Million-Mile warranty
2. MBRP XP Series 3-Inch Cat-Back Exhaust
The XP Series Cat-Back from MBRP is a budget-friendly entry into stainless steel exhaust systems. Rugged and dependable, this system is crafted from T409 stainless steel and built to withstand even the harshest of road/off-road conditions (i.e. salt, grime, rocks). One of the first things you’ll notice is the rich, mellow sound delivered by the chambered muffler. The second is the improved performance as reduced backpressure and improved scavenging let your Tacoma engine push out more horsepower and torque. Last, but not least, you’ll notice that there is more money in your pocket after you fill the tank.
MBRP’s exhausts are designed to maximize exhaust flow and minimize exhaust temperatures so your truck will use less gas and perform better. Built to the most exacting standards in the industry, MBRP cat-back exhausts are designed with fully mandrel-bent tubing and minimal bend degree angles to get exhaust out fast. The result is an increase in horsepower, torque, and overall sound. This exhaust system, like others from the brand, has been specifically tuned to get the optimal sound from your pickup.
You can also rest assured that your MBRP exhaust system has undergone countless hours on the company’s in-house Mustang 1100 AWD-SE Chassis Dynamometer, hundreds of miles on the road and track, and numerous modifications to get the most out of your Tacoma. The XP Series 3-Inch Cat-Back with Dual Split Side Rear Exit is the performance exhaust of choice for enthusiasts who need a system that can take anything the road throws at it. The rugged 16-gauge T409 stainless steel construction is so tough that MBRP backs it up with an industry-leading Lifetime Warranty.
Features:
T409 Stainless steel piping
Heavy-duty overall construction
Improves performance and efficiency
3” to dual 2.5” mandrel-bent tubing
Cat-back with dual split rear side exit
Easy direct-fit, bolt-on installation
4″ OD tips included (T304)
Backed by a Lifetime Warranty
3. Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-Back Exhaust
The Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-Back Exhaust for the Toyota Tacoma will give you exactly the sound that is promised by its name. The exhaust note of the American Thunder series has become a symbol of American power that is globally recognized. It is also the most popular of all the Flowmaster exhaust systems for those looking to increase power figures and mileage, improve throttle response, and enhance the sound of their vehicle. This system is perfect for anyone who wants a system that delivers a moderately aggressive exterior sound while still maintaining a comfortable interior tone with all of the performance benefits associated with the Flowmaster brand.
The Flowmaster American Thunder Dual Exhaust Side Exit Cat-Back uses Flowmaster’s patented Delta Flow Technology and a welded baffle muffler to let your Tacoma let out a rich and clear note that will hold your attention and grab that of passersby. Apart from its unique growl, it is manufactured to enhance the performance of your truck by freeing up the vehicle’s exhaust outflow so that the engine does not overwork itself. This reduces the risk of overheating and also lets the engine generate more power without compromising fuel efficiency.
This flanged stainless-steel system connects directly to the back of the catalytic converter and the 2.50-inch mandrel-bent tubing runs into a single inlet/dual outlet Super 50 Series muffler exiting into dual 2.50-inch mandrel-bent stainless steel tailpipes. The system uses the Tacoma’s factory hanger locations and is finished off with a pair of 3.50-inch polished stainless steel exhaust tips exiting out the left and right side behind the rear tires, which is perfect for towing. Designed for a perfect fit, this cat-back system includes all of the necessary parts, hardware, and detailed instructions for an easy installation that you can do at home.
Features:
Large 3.50-inch polished stainless steel tips
Side exit tailpipes are ideal for towing
Moderately aggressive exterior tone
Made with Delta Flow Technology
Includes a Super 50 stainless steel muffler
Full stainless steel construction
Offers the dual exhaust look and sound
4. Corsa Performance 3-Inch Cat-Back Exhaust
The Corsa Performance 3-Inch Sport Cat-Back Exhaust will transform your Toyota Tacoma in terms of styling, sound, and performance. This system delivers a custom-tuned, aggressive exhaust note that showcases a distinctive sound of power that will be music to your ears. In addition to offering a high-performance sound, this exhaust provides increased airflow and performance. The Pro-Series exhaust is designed for straight-through, non-restrictive airflow that results in it flowing 15 percent better than stock while also being lighter than the factory system. With the Corsa cat-back, you’ll get improved performance and fuel efficiency both on and off the road with improved horsepower and torque figures to boot.
Getting an excellent-sounding exhaust that will turn heads when you drive by is simple with CORSA’s patented Reflective Sound Cancellation (RSC) technology. The RSC allows the exhaust to have an aggressive sound through the gears, a deep rumble during idle, and zero drone when cruising. Another benefit of the innovative RSC is reduced backpressure which is part of what helps the engine produce gains in power. Corsa’s patented frees up additional power to get your vehicle moving faster, functioning more efficiently, and, thus, providing better fuel economy with mellow driving habits.
The Pro-Series exhaust features 3-inch tubing with mandrel-bent, premium 304L stainless steel for the ultimate tough construction. The exhaust’s handcrafted 4-inch powder-coated black tip stands out from the rest and enhances the styling of your truck. Resistant to both rust and corrosion, you won’t have to worry about unwanted deterioration as a result of extreme temperatures or organic wear and tear. The no-drill, bolt-on installation is super easy, saving you time and unnecessary aggravation. CORSA has designed the Pro-Series Cat-Back to perfectly fit your Tacoma and backs it with a Limited Lifetime Warranty, clearly showing the confidence the brand has in its technology.

5. Carven Exhaust Progressive Series Cat-Back
Carven Exhaust is leading the new era in aftermarket performance exhaust products. Its Progressive Series Cat-Back Exhaust will give your Tacoma a deeper, more desirable growl under startup and acceleration, while having little to no drone at highway cruising speeds. This way, your truck can leave a lasting impression on passersby while you and your passengers can enjoy minimal in-cabin noise. Apart from improved sound and, of course, better overall performance, this system is a direct bolt-on replacement for your Tacoma’s factory setup so no welding or cutting is required.
Carven Exhaust Systems are handcrafted and built from quality stainless steel material assembled with TIG welding processes to maximize strength and performance. Carven manufactures its Progressive Series Exhaust from 304 stainless steel tubing for superior strength and long-lasting corrosion resistance. This system features mandrel-bent tubing throughout with a TR Performance muffler to dramatically outflow your Tacoma’s stock exhaust. Album Review: Enumclaw - ‘Jimbo Demo’ EP
Tumblr media
Comprised of vocalist and guitarist Aramis Johnson, drummer Ladaniel Gipson, guitarist Nathan Cornell, and Aramis’ brother Eli Edwards on bass, Enumclaw probably didn’t have becoming one of the year’s best buzziest breakthrough artists on their radar a year and a half ago when they picked up their instruments for the first time. Making good music doesn’t necessitate having to be all that great at knowing the ins and out of it just yet, though, and the Tacoma four-piece embody that spirit in a wholly punk and DIY ethos sense.
What Enumclaw may temporarily lack in technicality, they more than make up in a drive to be something more than meets what you expect. For them, that’s their way out of the door of the mundane of your everyday after spending most of your youth hidden in the ‘burbs. Some might call their novices a creative weakness, yet that’s what work hugely in their favor on their debut EP Jimbo Demo. Five tracks the underground rock gristle and smudge together with pop-laden hooks, murky reverb befitting of the the foggy weather of their Pac Northwest surroundings, all while Aramis’ ambitions wear themselves endearingly in casually slacker fashion, it’s the kind of debut that turns heads by owning the cracks along the way.
Oasis are a very Gen-Z touchstone which Enumclaw have attached their themselves to since formally arriving, and while it hits in some spots, the texture and tone of Jimbo Demo has more in line with something of a crossbreed between Bleach-era Nirvana, Japandroids on their early EPs All Lies and Lullaby Death Jams, and the post-hardcore gaze of Title Fight’s Hyperviewin the way their sound is blissed in production while setting up the framework for future muscle to be built around. On “Cents” and “Free Drop Billy”, repetitive riffs and drum patterns osculate Aramis’ small town malaise through spiking electric hiss, where as pushing back on that same current reveals some of that melancholic Brit pop infliction of the brothers Gallagher in his leering on “Cinderella” and “Fruit Flies”.
“Trying to find out where I wind up that's a place for me / Tired of fighting what's inside of the monster in my mind / I'm just not for everybody / It's hard to accept,” Johnson sings on the EP’s centerpiece, the emo-smeared tumbler “Fast N All”. There’s an anxious feeling of not belonging yet knowing there’s a space out there for you at once -- quite the opposite of imposter syndrome, for a refreshingly change of pace -- and a different slant on the indie rock anthem. With Jimbo Demo, Enumclaw may not be where they want to be yet, but are convincing in their pursuits to break out.

Enumclaw’s Jimbo Demo will be released April 30th on Youth Riot Records. Physical | Apple Music | Bandcamp | Spotify

[SPOILERS FOR THE SONIC MOVIE]
Tumblr media
Ok, with the new trailer approaching, I thought that it would be good if I made a master post containing everything that we know for sure are happening in the Sonic Movie, thanks to an AMA done back in March.
The AMA was then proven to be true when the Sonic Movie trailer debuted in Cinemacon a month later, matching with a lot of what he said. Then Toywiz accidentally leaked that they were going to do some Sonic Movie toys, and one of them matched again with that AMA. It is legit.
So, needless to say, I’m going to literally spoil the entire movie. From beggining to the end. You’ve been warned.
Direct citations are in “”.
-The Movie is basically going to be a “Sonic; Origins”, it’s going to give backstory to Sonic and Robotnik, it’ll talk about how the two of them met, and how they became mortal enemies.
-Only the Robotnik name is used. No mention of the “Eggman” name.
-He gave the movie a 7/10 grade.
-If he had to compare this movie to a previous one, it would be the 2014 TMNT movie: “Id say it is more TMNT with reference to story and action balance. It's a solid mix between engaging action which continues to develop the bromance between sonic and Tom.”
- The movie is indeed, focused for the younger demographic, but there is some bonus for the long time fans: “ Its definitely being targeted towards youth demo. It seems their goal is to intro sonic to the next Gen of fans. More so with access to their parents wallets for spin off merch and happy meal toys. I enjoyed it similar to seeing transformers. Don't expect the green mile storytelling but turn your brain off and just enjoy for what it is. The cast does a great job”
-About Sonic himself in the movie:
*In order to survive, he keeps stealing stuff and living in the shadows of the Green Hills town. He usually steals food from super markets to eat, and also he steals a LOT of sneakers. He ends up being treated as an urban legend, called as the “Blue devil” by the locals, until he is discovered.
Tumblr media
*Sonic isn’t from Earth, he comes from another dimension that is inhabited by other animals like him. Sonic’s past will be explored.
*It’s revealed that he was raised by an owl when he was a baby. Everything seems to point that she is a regular owl, not an anthro one. She eventually ends up dying for some unknown reasons, which will be a “tearjerker” scene.
*”Rings are how sonic got to earth. He can throw one and imagine a place and it will take him. He is fast from his first steps.”
*About Sonic’s ‘eletricity’ powers, he does it only when he focuses or is extremely emotional. His charged run is why he gets detected and why the power on the entire Pacific Northwest goes down and that’s how Robotnik comes into the film.
*But Sonic will need to learn how to control his powers though.
-About references to the old games, he said that: “It’s a good balance between giving the old fans something but introducing him to kids. I went in not knowing it was gonna be screened or any expectations. Cheesy but enjoyed it from start to finish. Jim Carrey kills the role.”
-About the movie’s plot:
* Sonic ends up being far away from his home planet and grows up on Earth.  Ends up alone after some time and grew up staying hidden. Loneliness gets to him which leads to him making a massive energy disturbance, knocking out the power on the entire Pacific Northwest.
Tumblr media
The government, scared by the blackout, decides to bring in Robotnik to find out why the energy disturbance happened. Hijinks ensue and a good story is told. Tom and sonic become best friends.
-About the action:
“ Action scenes were great in story telling and execution wise. Effects weren't complete so a lot of it was still early cgi and the hidden actors playing sonic. At one point he was just a blue doll on the counter lol”
-The movie is aiming for a PG Rating.
-About Robotnik:
“He's just a psycho super smart doc that works for the gov initially. They give him the power and he goes full Eggman lol. He's super obnoxiously smart too. Makes tons of comments in the film about how superior his brain is lol. Really fun role for Jim Carrey.”
“He doesn’t rock the signature look until tail end of movie. Has the typical long coat and all dark evil scientist look. Short mustache as well initially”
Tumblr media
Robotnik trying to catch Sonic eventually makes him go more and more insane and obsessed with the hedgehog. With him eventually getting the “Eggman” look.
-”Lots of humor and fun for all ages. Kids ate the comedy up. Sonic dances right after an short battle and kids about died laughing in the theater.”
-The Chaos Emeralds are NOT present in this movie.
-There is a post credit scene:
“Robotnik is defeated and ends up on a foreign planet [possibly Sonic’s World] that Sonic was supposed to escape to in the event of being found on Earth. He is now hefty and rocking the full blown stache”
Tumblr media
- “Sonic and Tom end up helping each other solve their personal conflicts. They balanced Sonic and Tom pretty well and they are a good duo.”
- There’s a scene in San Francisco that is a direct homage to City Escape.
-The only characters from the games that show up are Robotnik and Sonic.
- The movie has one car chase scene. Sonic does the floss to celebrate (that dance that is used in Fortnite) and “the kids ate it up”. About product placement, there is two, one with the Olive Garden restaurant and Puma. Tom also gets a gift card as an apology at the end from the gov guy who initially brings Robotnik into the picture.
-Yes, Sonic will floss in the movie.
- Tika Sumpter plays the character Annie Wachowski. She is a vet that is very gentle with Sonic. It’s thanks to her that Sonic felt that he could trust the Wachowskis.
- In order to retrieve Sonic’s lost rings, Sonic and Tom embark on a roadtrip to San Francisco, using Tom’s Tacoma.

The Tacoma’s roof is ripped out due to the automated car that Robotnik sent to attack them. This leads to a conflit between Sonic and Tom.

-About how Sonic and Tom meet:
“Tom has racoon problems in his trash. When he sees Sonic face to face for the first time. He tranqs him and puts him in a cage.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robotnik shows up and they escape and Tom begrudgingly agrees to help. His main concern is moving to SF to prove to himself that he can handle real cop crime and not Montana small world problems. You see it early on for character development.
-The movie’s runtime is around 90 minutes.
- “There were stakes and it balanced between a family adventure and action movie.”
-About the final battle:
" Yeah there's a good scene between doc and the good guys" It’ll be about Sonic and Robotnik running across the entire world using the Power Rings, they’ll end up in different places from Earth, such as Egypt and Paris.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-About Robotnik’s lackey:
Agent Stone is Robotnik’s right hand. He is very funny and a big Robotnik fanboy. He’s super happy to be working with him.
- “Tom was really enjoyable. Fun and backwoods kind of smart. He wants to prove to himself that he can make it as a big city cop”
- The film will begin showing Sonic as a baby. He’ll be saved by an owl, that’ll be sort of like his mom owl. His mom owl dies, and then Sonic will realize that he is on his own on Earth, and alone.
-There’s a scene where Sonic and Tom stop by a bar localized in the American highway path between San Francisco and Green Hills. It’s full of buff bikers, with tatoos and everything. Sonic accidentaly creates a fight in the bar.
-Robotnik has as a part of his arsenal drones, tanks, automated cars, and realistic robots.
-Sonic ends up becoming a sensation in Green Hills, and the locals begin to appreciate him, and begin to defend him.
-How the final battle ends:
The fight across the world between Sonic and Robotnik ends up back in Montana via the rings. The locals from Green Hills help by getting Robotnik’s attention. Sonic then super electro charges a spin dash, and knocks Robotnik into a ring which sends him to another planet [possibly Sonic’s World] and they technically win for now.
-The final battle begins, I believe, at this part:

hello friends ! my name is gen, and i’m super excited to be here ! i’m 19, i use she/her and reside in the est timezone ! this here is my darling, angela or ella for short ! she’s a brand new muse so i’m very excited to develop her with all your muses. under the cut, you’ll find some information about her ! i’m sorry if theres not a lot, like i said she’s a new muse and i’m honestly kinda making this up as i go so ! please like this post if you’d like to plot, and i’ll come to u asap. we can do it over discord or in ims, it truly makes no different to me ! thanks for listening to me ramble, and i can’t wait until tomorrow !
— yeh shuhua. she/her. cisfemale. | was that angela tsai i just saw in the hideaway lobby ? i hear the nineteen year old spends most of their time working as a party entertainer , but i’ve always just seen them figure skating at the local ice rink . they live in apt 3C and i often see them in the halls. they always give me a vibe of a never-ending supply of hair ties and bobby pins, the smell of fresh linen, hiding under blankets.
* ( &. 001. | angela tsai comes from a very prestigious family. her father is a well-known lawyer around tacoma ( her hometown ), and a graduate of harvard law school. while angelas mother is a cardiovascular surgeon and a graduate of john hopkins university. both of her parents are very well known around tacoma by the community, which means angela is too. but, for angela, she was always looked down on by the community and her parents almost for never really making something great of herself like her parents.
* ( &. 002. | angela grew up like a normal child, there was no pressure on her to become something great until she was up into high school. she lived life as just another child until then. she had a great set of friends, she had barbie dolls galore, she had everything a child could have wanted. but when she began to get into middle school, people began to look at angela weird. no one ever spoke of it until she was finally starting her freshman year. when she started high school, there was this pressure put on her to get straight a’s as the daughter of a harvard graduate, and the daughter of a surgeon.
* ( &. 003. | the pressure was never put on her by her parents until pressure was being put on them. it’s safe to say that the tsais were very weak-willed. as more pressure was put on her parents to push their daughter, that just put more pressure on poor little fourteen-year-old angela. but she allowed the pressure to get to her. so, angela started ignoring her friends until they were completely cut off from her. school work became her number one priority.
* ( &. 004. | not remarkable in angelas four years of high school, she continued on with getting straight as. but when senior year came around, that was when everything really started happening. angela got a packet in the mail stating that she was accepted with a FULL RIDE to stanford university for phsyics. her parents, and the rest of the community were so proud of her for finally doing what they had all wanted her to do.
* ( &. 005. | but what they didn’t know was that angela wasn’t interested in pursuing physics, for what she really loved, and wanted to pursue was figure skating. ever since she was a young girl, she was always fascinated with it. when her parents used to watch the olympics, the only part she really paid attention to was the figure skating. the skaters looked so graceful, and beautiful. and someday angela wanted to do that.
* ( &. 006. | the night of graduation, angela finally came clean and told her parents that she wasn’t going to stanford, and that she was going to pass up on the scholarship. instead, angela told them that she decided she was going to move out to seattle and pursue figure skatings which caused all hell to break out in the tsai household that night. things were thrown, bonds were broken, hurt was given out. angela will never forget the look on her fathers face when he told her that she was a disgrace to the tsai family name, and that as far as he was concerned, angela wasn’t his daughter anymore.
* ( &. 007. | soon after, she moved to seattle and started taking figure skating lessons. after the terror that was graduation night, angela was happy that she was feeling like herself again considering how big of a toll that took on her.
* ( &. 008. | so, while angela isn’t skilled enough, she doesn’t think, to do any competitions.. she’s currently working as a party entertainer. so basically she works for a company that has a ton of different characters that people can rent for parties. she’s been everything from wonder woman, to violet from the incredibles. she was so lucky to get such a fun job, and while she loves it.. her job, plus figure skating takes up a lot of her time.
* ( &. 009. | personality-wise, i’m not entirely sure where she’ll be going. i have a certain image of her in my head, but it just doesn’t feel right. so we’ll see when we open for interactions.
* ( &. 010. | angela is a very minimalistic person. she loves everything to be as simple, and as clean as possible. she likes crisp clean lines, white everything, it’s just her aesthetic. although sometimes she’ll add flashes of color in places.
* ( &. 011. | she has a bunch of very small tattoos, littered in various places around her body. she got her first one the night after she moved out, and she’s been addicted ever since. see here, here, here, and here.
* ( &. 012. | angela likes to put up this front for everyone, making them think that her life is going great, but deep down, she’s actually very unhappy with her life and no one actually knows. she acts like she’s the best thing around, and as if she doesn’t need anyone, or anything to make her happy, but she’s actually very insecure, and very lonely. she would never admit that to anyone though, she has too much pride to let anyone see how messed up she is, and how lowly she actually thinks of herself.

I bought a 2019 Ranger! Initial thoughts during first week of ownership. via /r/cars
I bought a 2019 Ranger! Initial thoughts during first week of ownership.
On Monday, I took delivery of my 2019 Ford Ranger! I'd love to share some of my initial thoughts during my first week of ownership for anyone who's interested/in the market for a mid-size truck.
A bit of a backstory, please skip ahead if you just want know the impressions. I drove (and still own) an Integra GSR through college, and once I graduated and moved to Michigan, I quickly realized that a lowered Integra isn't the best DD on these roads lol. Here were my needs for a vehicle: enough towing for a project car, off road capabilities (to explore Michigan - sand dunes, UP, trails, parks, mudding), reliable, comfortable as a DD, not terrible fuel economy. Usually I would prefer an SUV, but with the Bronco not available yet, the Ranger made the most sense since I have employee discount. I considered used Tacomas and 4Runners but the newer used ones aren't that cheap and the older used ones would require just as much preventative maintenance as the Integra and I don't want to deal with two older vehicles, especially if it's going to be my daily driver. F-150's are out the question, as I simply don't want the sheer size and they won't be as great off-road.
Impressions:
I ordered an XLT FX4 with trailer tow package, sport appearance package, and SYNC 3 with MSRP at $38K. It's not cheap, but it's completely par within the segment. The Lariat would have pushed it to $42k+, and it gets you leather/power/heated seats, leather trim, and a few other things that I don't think make it worth it (although bummed that I don't get the cool LED headlights).
Driving: I don't have much truck experience, but I'll do my best. I'm basing my impressions off of a Frontier rental that I had a while back. I actually really liked how that Frontier drove and how truck-y it felt! The Ranger is more civil and much more comfortable. Steering feel is similar to an Explorer until the rear axle goes over some bumps. The 10-speed auto is quick to respond, with no signs of gear hunting on downshifts. I kinda wish it were manual and I kinda wish there were paddles, but all is forgiven because the 10-speed is awesome. Acceleration is great, the 2.3L Ecoboost has all the power/torque you need and I don't feel cheated with no option for a V6 (the 2.7L Ecoboost would have been a riot though!). There's also a huge difference between D and S, which is very appreciated. The revs stay higher and throttle response is much more responsive in S.
Interior: Everything is easy to use, I think it looks great and I don't think it looks cheap. The second row is spacious and comfortable, and I would have no issues sitting back there during a road trip.
Features: I'm impressed that the XLT comes standard with Co-Pilot360: lane keep assist, pre-collision assist, blind spot, auto-high beam. All of these safety features work flawlessly and give you great feedback without being obtrusive. SYNC 3 w/ Android Auto is also super useful and makes commutes so much better. It also came standard with Ford PassConnect, and it's very convenient that I can start the truck using my phone in the morning (I can even set it start on a schedule every day too!). Can't complain about the 3 month free trial of the 4G Wi-Fi hotspot either! Maybe it's just because I'm coming from a 24 year old car, but I'm so impressed with these new creature comforts lol. The FX4 package comes with the cool terrain modes, trail control, etc., but I have yet to use them so cannot comment. Definitely excited to try it out!
Size: The mid-size segment has definitely gotten larger and the Ranger is no exception. However, it's a breeze to park, turning radius is perfectly fine. One thing I will note though, is that it's quite tall. I drove next to a first gen Tacoma and I completely dwarfed it. The next day I drove next to a new Colorado and I could see over it's roof! I'm glad it's not any larger than it is haha.
I haven't driven the Tacoma or Colorado so I can't say which one is the best, but I truly believe that the Ranger is up there and anyone who drives one will not be disappointed. Please feel free to comment/PM me if there's anything else you would like to know! https://imgur.com/a/b2ZwrKd

Ai rewriting the rules of aviation.
Next-gen software is redrawing the routes planes fly between airports, avoiding traffic jams in the sky and saving Alaska Airlines millions of dollars.
“We’re getting an outsized benefit right now because we’re the only airline that’s using the software,” said Pasha Saleh, flight operations strategy and innovation director for Alaska Airlines. “That means we get to design these bespoke routes for ourselves while everyone else is essentially relegated to the traditional paths that human dispatchers come up with unaided.”
In the past, when a Los Angeles-bound Alaska Airlines plane flew out of Anchorage, the carrier padded the flight schedule to include extra time in case of surprise delays. Yet in recent months Alaska has trialed a new route-mapping software from the startup Airspace Intelligence. The software suggests paths in the sky that are tailored to real-time weather and traffic and may be more desirable. Passengers may soon see arrival times are more accurate.
Experts predict that flight dispatching at airlines worldwide will improve with the help of powerful number-crunching software that uses artificial intelligence, or AI.
Today, the typical airline flight dispatcher essentially plans the route that an aircraft will take between airports by doing a bit of math, picturing in their head what storm data on radar might mean for a flight’s trajectory — while using route maps that planes have flown before as inspiration.
“Before this job, I was a professional pilot for a while,” Saleh said. “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been taking off early ahead of schedule, telling my passengers the whole way, ‘We’re going to get you there 20 minutes early,’ and then we ended up arriving 40 minutes late. The use of AI software by all airlines could reduce how often that happens.”
Alaska Airlines may have found a better way. It recently has been piloting software called Flyways AI. The software predicts extreme weather and air traffic with greater accuracy. The intel helps dispatchers create flight plans less prone to revision. That precision, in turn, enables the airline to trim its fuel use and make its operations more predictable and cost-effective.
“Eventually, most airlines will deploy AI for flight dispatch,” Saleh said. “So our total savings in time between point A and point B on our average flight may not be as much once others copy the technique. But we’ll still enjoy lasting gains in average fuel savings, a reduced CO2 [carbon dioxide] emission footprint, and the operational knock-on effects of greater predictability about flight arrival times.”
After a six-month pilot with the software that began around December, Alaska reduced its fuel use by 480,000 gallons and trimmed nearly 4,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
AIRLINES EMBRACING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The carrier’s move is part of a larger trend. Until recently, travel companies haven’t used much artificial intelligence, besides setting prices, buying ads online, and offering automated customer service.
But step by step, travel companies are experimenting with ways to use computational artificial intelligence, similar to the software companies such as Amazon use to crunch numbers quickly to make predictions that can make operations, such as delivery logistics, more efficient.
“Every flight has its route first planned by a dispatcher, but each dispatchers sort of works in isolation and doesn’t know everything that everyone else is doing,” Saleh of Alaska Airlines said. “So very often unintentionally, one dispatcher’s flight plan creates conflicts with others’, and plans from different airlines can conflict, too.”
“That’s how you can end up with ten flights arriving at SeaTac [Seattle-Tacoma’s main airport] within five minutes,” Saleh said. “Better predictions can help airlines avoid that, essentially showing the impact of one dispatcher’s decision on every other flight.”
Airlines use flight-planning software from vendors or in-house. Widely used systems include Boeing’s Jeppesen, Sabre’s Flight Plan Manager, airline owned tech provider SITA [Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques] (though it is pulling out of flight planning), Leidos‘s 1800wxbrief (which offers related services for flight dispatchers), Lufthansa Systems’ Lido Flight 4D, and Airbus’ Navblue N-Flight Planning.
Alaska uses Jeppesen.
“If our dispatcher likes the route recommended by the Flyways software, they essentially copy and paste the data into the Jeppesen system, which is already FAA [Federal Aviation Administration] approved,” Saleh said. “So we avoid needing regulatory approval or spending a lot of money swapping out systems because the Flyways isn’t mission-critical and is just a decision-support tool. The dispatcher can do their job even if the recommendations stop coming for some reason.”
Flight dispatchers have multiple tabs open on their computers in Alaska’s network operations center. One of those tabs is now the startup’s browser-based recommendations. They suggest where a plane should climb or drop in altitude and what paths it could optimally take — using dynamic mapping across a time scale.
Landing planes more predictably with fewer surprises can help in other ways besides saving fuel and pleasing passengers. Greater predictability can enable airlines to be more accurate about planning their labor needs for flight crews, for instance.
After takeoff, an airport’s air traffic control tower passes the job of managing the flight to controllers at regional centers, which typically hand flights to other centers until an aircraft reaches its destination. All of these centers for all airlines could theoretically benefit from more accurate predictions about when storms or traffic might block certain “lanes” in interstate “skyways.”
Saleh recalls an “ah-ha” moment he had when he knew the use of artificial intelligence would have promise.
“Before the pandemic, Ben Minicucci — now our new CEO but then still the president of the company — came by to have a look after the team had trialed it and offered feedback to the developers for about a year,” Saleh said. “Ben said it was game-changing that we were the first airline to get this. So for even someone at his level, who has to think about such a broad operation, it wasn’t lost on him that this software represented a real opportunity.”
