The atmosphere of buildings designed by Alvar Aalto and his partners Aino and Elissa is quite unique and lends much of its uniqueness to the materials and details applied. With particular attention the Aaltos designed everything from door handles over drainages and fire places to windows as ongoing research objects that were refined and improved over time. This approach as well as the indisputable quality of the Aaltos’ buildings also caught the attention of Swiss architects Céline Ditziker and Lukas Gruntz: on a pilgrimage to Finland they set out to document the details of some 50 Aalto buildings, from Porches, ceilings and garage doors to handrails and exterior lamps, to create a visual catalogue that offers a comprehensive overview of the details and their artisanal quality. The result is „Aalto im Detail“, a compact, handy catalogue recently published by Birkhäuser that collects some 400 systematically arranged photographs. Along 19 categories the readers can immerse themselves in the fascinating details of each building and experience well and lesser-known examples from a new perspective. With remarkable craftsmanship Alvar and his wife combined materials and constructed all kinds of fixtures for each building individually. Through the sequential arrangement of the photos one can also follow the development of every category, identify recurring themes and ultimately cannot help but thoroughly admire the ingenuity and creativity of the Aaltos. „Aalto im Detail“ is a treasure trove and fodder for anyone who loves the architectural detail!

This is the Järvenpää Mosque built in the 1940s which, AFAIK, has the only minaret in Finland.

I saw someone had made a 45 mins long video about how Avatar 2 is *checks notes* An Environmentalist Masterpiece... I'm kinda curious to watch it because like I can't even imaging how you'd make that argument, but also I feel like it might just melt my brain.
