so I’m listening thru wtnv for the first time and, Numbers. Numbers man. I’m emotional about this and I don’t know how to actually explain because Fey deserves more, better, something else than what she has. But Cecil is right, we are all limited. Limited limitless beauty, but limited nonetheless. And one of those limitations is that none of us can help Fey.

So I just put up a post about how I regret not writing more this year and mainly had one thing in mind while putting that together.
I had intended to post something for Welcome to Night Vale's Tenth Anniversary in June (and when that date passed me by I was thinking by Halloween and then... yeah.)
The one in question is Episode 42: Numbers

An episode with central themes that are very personal for me and have been since I first listened to it. Which was why I had trouble writing about it.
I wanted to have some visuals to include in relationship to the episode to go with the analysis, so I commissioned art of the character Fey (who debuted and had her only major appearance in this episode.) Posted up top.

The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home
She’s a faceless old woman who secretly lives inside everyone’s homes but is never seen, only voices where she is or what she does through the local radio show and she’s fucking amazing. Ran for mayor once. Tried to assasinate the mayor who was elected. Also has a book describing her backstory. Does she technically have a body? I’m not sure (haven’t read the book) but either way, we only ever hear her voice and like, zero description of what she may look like in the podcast aside from not having a face.

NO HERA PROPAGANDA??? this is shameful. she's SASSY. she has a pathetic boy/bestfriend. she is an ai who, according to her code, should not be able to disobey a superior officer or harm somebody, yet she TAUGHT HERSELF how to IGNORE COMMANDS. she's been a part of like. so many mutinies. she has anxiety. she loves so fiercely. she prioritizes herself as number one. she can do a million things at once. she's perfect.

Hera propaganda:
Shes badass and runs the whole space station because she pretty much is the space station. :)
Truly one of my fave character arcs of all time. Like. Her body is a space station but people can rip out her brain but she wants to kill people but she forgets how fragile human life is but she can find loopholes around any rule you give her but she LOVES her FRIENDS. I'm OBSESSED with her.
She is the AI running an entire space station orbiting around a red dwarf star. She's tried bypassing her programming to keep everyone on the station multiple times just to see if she could (and it ends up saving the day at one point). She also has been programmed with anxiety (basically a glitch that'll pop up that repeats the phrase "I can't do this. I'm not good enough") by her creator and she learns how to get around this. She's picked up sarcasm from one of her human shipmates, she died and came back, she is all around a 10/10. Sorry I just really love Hera

GPTim would really like the Thrilling Adventure Hour/Welcome to Night Vale crossover, well, up until Croach fixes things. But the NV citizens hate the moon *so* much that they make it disappear, but not in their time in the future. So there’s moon destroying and time travel.

Truly it cannot be understated that episode Numbers is one of the best episodes of Welcome to Night Vale. In one episode you get so invested in Fey and its just. MAN. I WANT GOOD THINGS FOR FEY LISTEN FINK. CRANOR. I AM IN YOUR HOUSE. MAKE IT HAPPEN.
