Finding a job has been a pretty hopeless process so I'm just making a post to remind people that I am indeed an artist who makes Cool Stuff sometimes even though I hardly ever post about it haha.

I have a Gumroad page where I sell adopts and bases currently.

My commissions are pretty limited because I'm still in school and I frankly don't have the time or energy for huge projects but I still do traditional commissions! A werewolf as protector

While looking for other Dutch werewolf legends, I found this very unusual one about a werewolf coming to a friend’s rescue, recorded/published in 1925. It’s short, so I’ll translate it in full:

A boy from Weert-Meerssen was courting a girl from Meerssen and the boys from Meerssen, who didn’t like this one bit, wanted to ambush him and beat him. Whenever the boy was with his girl, there was always a large, black dog that kept looking at him. This dog would walk home with him every single night. At length the boy got so sick of this that he gave the dog a thrashing.

One night the boy was on his way home again. He had been visiting his girl. At the Trapperweiden between Weert and Meerssen the boys from Meerssen were waiting for him. They grabbed him and he was outnumbered, when suddenly a big black dog rushed at the attackers and bit at then left and right. The boys were scared of this strange ally to their adversary and fled. Their victim gratefully stroked the dog and only then did he see it was the same dog that was always looking at him.

When he set off for home again the following night, the dog once again accompanied him and when they arrived at the place of the ambush, he began to speak: “Now you no longer strike me, now I’ve saved you,” said he.

The boy turned around and now he saw that it was his best friend. After that night he never saw him again. His good friend had been missing since. Now he was never more bothered by any pursuer, nor by a troublesome dog.

I’ve never seen any werewolf legend like this. And it cuts itself so short! I wish I knew what happened to the werewolf best friend, it’s almost as if he was forced to go away after revealing his secret...

I was just rereading the Wikipedia page for the Legend of Sleepy Hollow like you do on October 1st when you grew up in the Hudson Valley, and new Ichabod Crane theory just dropped, the man was a limp- wristed fairy trying to secure Katrina as a beard and what Brom Bones did was actually a hate crime, like look:

one thing that interests me is that, as a Dutch person, every single name I read immediately registers in my brain as phonetic Dutch.

for example:

Linebeck from TLoZ:PH. my brain, even though I’m reading and halfway thinking in English, reads this as

lee-nuh-beck

Fi becomes Fee

Ghirahim becomes Kee-Rah-Hymn

Magda (flowerblight from BotW) becomes Machh-Daa (with the soft g that English just doesn’t have)

and then it comes to me as a shock when I hear it in English like, the first time I heard someone say Fi as what in Dutch phonetic is ‘Fai’ I didn’t know who they were talking about

Do other people who don’t have English as their first language also have this?

and if so, how do you pronounce it?
