#Desmond: Somewhere I know my father is laughing at me. I can feel it in my bones

I mean, "if the city is in a full riot and all the enemies are dead, I successfully Stealthed" is a viable option. Not a good one, but it gets the job done. You're definitely better at it than I am by the simple metric that you do indeed get through the mandatory stealth segments.
Which is why while I love the AC fics, I have zero idea that's going on beyond osmosis and just riding the weirdness. Desmond dies/not-dies and is mistaken for an angel in Ezio's Italy? Desmond is yoten into the super old past and Eagle Man thinks he's a doctor because the guy knows basic germ theory? Desmond can 100% write in Eagle Man's handwriting and spook Ezio-era Templars with Seemingly Immortal Eagleman Cometh ominous letters?
So like Desmond surviving and picking up pre-Hogwarts Harry? Yes. Delicious. Although funny thought: Petunia has traces of Isu DNA in her if she's related to Desmond. So much for being "perfectly normal".
Fair enough. I mean if you’re interested in the actual canon story there are always the cutscene movies on youtube. Which tbh is how I refreshed myself on ac1 since it’s not on PlayStation and I’m not paying like $30 for it on Xbox when it’s like fifteen years old.
Wait is the Des harasses people with Altairs handwriting an actual fic because like imma need a link for that one it sounds hilarious.
I was thinking more “Lily was adopted” but god imagine if Petunia also had Isu DNA and Desmond’s frustration while trying to convince her she and Dudley are in danger with them just not listening to him and making him just take Harry (who might have it from both sides?). It would definitely open up the door for the possibility of angst later as well.

State of Chaos
Another update! *sips maple tea this time*
So I know I’ve been pretty absent on here lately. A large part of that is avoiding spoilers for the new Thrawn book - but my copy is IN THE TRUCK and on its way right now and I am so fucking excited! I will of course tag any spoilers or mentions of content in future posts (though I’m not sure what to tag it with? Probably just #Thrawn Ascendancy and #spoilers? Using anything with ‘Chaos Rising’ feels like I’m just telling you all I’m getting up in the morning or something 😂… any suggestions?). The other part is I’ve just been busy with IRL stuff, including - but not limited to - wading through red tape and bureaucracy for a very promising job prospect 👀, and training my sweet little idiot cat to use her fancy new feeder in an attempt to stop Unauthorized Greedy Pet (not my term, it was in the manual and I’m still laughing about it) from stealing her breakfast the moment it’s left unattended for more than about 4.7 seconds 😼
But enough about that. To the wips!!
Assassin’s Creed
Diletto (working title)
aka the Ezio gets pegged fic - Been poking at Chapter 2 bit by bit! And getting more used to writing little chunks and snippets of fic non-linearly as they come to me, instead of just sitting at the beginning completely stuck, so that’s been an incredibly useful new skill (thank you Rev, O wise one).
The skills of Assassins
I have made progress on Chapter 4! 🎉 Mario is really getting a slightly bemused “what have I gotten myself into” vibe that I’m quite enjoying playing with. It’s nowhere near finished yet, but it will come and so will they.
Other
Crossover/fusion where Ezio just ~exists~ in the Witcher universe; details down in the Witcher section 😉
Ezio/Desmond under the haycart is still on the list for when I have the guts to attempt it! And I also now want to write some Desmond/Shaun smut set in AC3, where they have not-entirely-quiet sex in the echoey cavern somewhere and hopefully possibly annoy Desmond’s asshole father in doing so, just because. Seriously that game should be called Assassin’s Creed 3: Daddy Issues omfg
The Expanse
Posted
Ill-advised encounters - Havelock/Miller smut, first chapter of probably 2 or 3 total has been posted after unexpected inspiration struck! (Explicit)
Star Wars
Posted
Sleepless - a little fluffy ficlet in honour of reaching the 500 fics milestone in the Thranto tag on AO3 🥳 Eli wakes up a little unsettled from a strange dream, but Thrawn is there to comfort him (Teen and up). Extra special thank yous to @confuzing and @star-wars-rebels-5 for encouraging me to do it 😊💙
The Witcher
Flagrant Indecency
I still plan to have the final chapter up by the Finish your Fic deadline 😁 Though I should… probably check what that deadline is… 🤔
Assassin’s Creed x Witcher crossover
So that ridiculous idea I had about Ezio just being part of the Witcher universe, with past Ezalt (Gerezio?), as-yet unrequited Geraskier (idiots in love again), and leading up to some Ezskier and tasty Gerezkier threesome action? 😏 Wellp, I have started working on it. Verrry very slowly because I’m terrified of Doing It Wrong, but I’m pushing forward anyway! *whispers* also someone else may or may not be writing their own crossover fic with these three as well, and another someone else may or may not be planning to make my version an ILLUSTRATED FIC with me!! I am extremely excited about both these things 🤩
Catskier Ficlets
@revakah went and gave me another Cat!Jaskier idea the other day, which inspired me to revisit that tumblr notfic I did awhile back, and stay up way too late last night turning it into a proper little ficlet. And I want to write the second idea as well now. Maybe I’ll actually make a Catskier series if I get enough ideas 😆 (prompts welcome… if you ever wanted to read about Geralt dealing with Jaskier as a cat, let me know and I’ll see what I can do…)
Posted
Open up - 100 words of Jaskier’s fingers in Geralt’s mouth (Mature).
Friends in low places - Kitty snuggles, Geralt gets to pet a cat for the first time, and all is not what it seems (General audiences). I still have that bloody song stuck in my head though, this is why you shouldn’t come up with fic titles at midnight

Death with Dignity
Inspired by the song of the same name by Sufjan Stevens. The meaning doesn’t exactly fit, but the song just makes me feel so many emotions. Inspired by this post!!  It’s really long, just a warning, and angsty. I love afterlife stuff and will probably do more for this, but I wanted to get this one out. Also, as a point of reference, Edward is the age he is in AC 4, Haytham: AC3, Ezio: Revelations, Connor: Post AC3 and Altair AC 1.
The buzzing stopped moments after it started, but Desmond’s body still feels like it’s vibrating. He remembers lights and a searing heat traveling up his arm, a loud booming sound, the buzzing and now this silence.
Are his eyes open? Yes, it’s just dark.
“H-hello?” he calls out into the black sea while walking forward.
Walking? He glances down to see his body in his usual garb, that’s a relief. Is this Heaven? Hell? Do Assassins go to a special in between?
Up ahead he spots a white light and makes his way towards it. The sound of footsteps fades in and the light seems to rush towards him. He shields himself, bringing his arms up as he’s engulfed by light and warmth.
Once again, he opens his eyes and is met with a garden. It looks familiar, a memory nags at the back of his head as he steps around the rows of crops towards a house on the other side of the field. He feels a sense of warmth bloom in his chest as he approaches.
The house is two stories built with some kind of light brown stones with an old wooden pergola attached to one side of the house. Desmond recognizes this style from Ezio’s memories. It hits him like a train and he stumbles into one of the support beams of the pergola.
“Easy there, mate,” a voice calls as a body flanks Desmond’s side.  He glances up into the blue eyes of a blond man and frowns. “God?” The man barks a laugh and pats his back hard. “Nah, I’m more like the devil ‘imself actually.” “Who are you then? Where the hell am I?” Desmond stands up and takes a step away from this man. He stares at him longer, watching as the man’s blue eyes grow soft looking at him. Realization dawns on him and he exhales. “You’re the pirate.” “Aye, I’m Edward Kenway, captain of the Jackdaw,” he puts out a hand. When Desmond takes it he pulls him in and wraps an arm around his neck with one arm and ruffles his hair with the other. “An’ you’re Desmond, ain’t ye? We’ve been waitin’ for ya!”
“Wait what?” Desmond takes a step back, his arms up as if to hold Edward in place. “I’m dead, right?”
“Aye, thas’ right,” Edward nods as if it should be obvious.
“Then where am I? What do you mean ‘we’?”
Waving his arm inwards, Edward grins at the boy. “Come on, you’ll see. Yes, you are dead, but you’re home now.”
“Home?”
There’s no reply as Desmond is brought around the house to an open courtyard with a large table set and full of food. Music plays from somewhere in the background and suddenly Desmond doesn’t feel so heavy anymore. The burning pain he felt moments ago, the buzzing he heard is all gone. It almost feels like the animus...
“Ah, Desmond,” a deep voice calls.
Desmond turns to see a younger than expected Haytham, maybe in his thirties at this point, dressed in Assassin’s attire despite his turnover later in life. For a second, Desmond feels bitter, after having been through Connor’s life; it’s a struggle to be able to face this Kenway. Haytham holds out his hand and offers a wry smile.
“I understand your emotions, but what’s done is done,” he reasons and then grins when Desmond accepts his hand. “We’re here now.”
“I’ll think about it,” the younger assassin shrugs his shoulder before turning to see another figure show up. This time he grins and sticks his hand out. “Ratonhnhaketon, it’s an honor.”
The Native American smiles at Desmond, his hair is longer and pull back out of his face. He looks much older than his twenties and is dressed in his traditional assassin’s robes. His girth is intimidating close up and Desmond fully understands why some Templars shrank away from him in the Animus.
“The honor is mine,” Connor shakes his hand then reaches up to grasp his shoulder and pull him closer to the table. “There are plenty of people here to meet you.”
“Oh?” Desmond feels himself relax and more figures begin to appear in the courtyard.
He recognizes some from the database, other people his ancestors knew, other assassin’s who have made their mark in the Brotherhood. Others he doesn’t, he never did read too much into the database, preferring to just use what was needed. Man, he wishes Shaun and Rebecca were here...
“Why the long face?” Connor pauses in his tracks when Desmond’s face crumples up a fraction.
“M-my friends... my dad...” he stammers and wipes at his face with the heel of his hand. “I did this to protect them a-and...”
“It’s alright, lad,” Edward comes up on Desmond’s left and offers him a pat on the back. “We all understand the sacrifices you put in and what ya lost along the way. It’s going to hurt for a while, it’ll get better.”
With a nod, Desmond shakes off the grief to make it through this strange party. Connor resumes in bringing him over when a tall, not taller than Connor, figure comes up. He recognizes the man and nearly falls to his knees.
Ezio Auditore dressed in the robes from his time in Masyaf, gazes at Desmond with a slight smile and bright eyes. The two gaze at each other, Desmond cannot fathom this moment. Having relieved this man’s memories for so long, dealing with his pain and his happiness, so much so he couldn’t tell himself apart from him makes this moment so surreal. Finally, the italian reaches up with both hands and grasps Desmond’s shoulders.
“For all those years I never understood that message, you were the one,” his voice is deep and it rattles Desmond. “It is nice to finally meet you, Desmond. Desmond, it’s you.”
“E-ezio...” Desmond is speechless and damn he hates himself for it. What kind of man is he? “Shit. I don’t know what to say.”
Ezio’s booming laughter fills the courtyard. “Come sit, we will find the words together.”
Ezio takes the spot across from Desmond with Connor sitting on the younger man’s left and Edward on his right. One by one the crowd takes a seat and Desmond watches as the table fits everyone comfortably as they converse with one another. He gazes at all the faces in awe.
“I’m not related to everyone here am I?” he wonders out loud.
“Not necessarily,” Ezio explains while piling some food on his plate. “These are all of those in and associated with the Brotherhood...”
“Federico? Claudia? Is that Petruccio?” Desmond feels his heart ache at the sight of Ezio’s family. He remembers the depression he went through trying to sift through Ezio’s grief that was messing with his head. The deaths of the Italian’s brothers and father haunted him for a long time.
Ezio grins as his family materializes on his left, Desmond’s right. They grin at him, all of them looking more mature than when he last saw them. Federico wasn’t frozen in his early twenties from his death. He’s grown into a man, strong jaw, five o’clock shadow and elegant hair. He’s supposed to be older than Ezio, but his appearance is that of a thirty year old.
Petruccio is in his twenties, he’s still got his boyish looks about him, but it’s charming. Obviously an Auditore with that smile and lean muscled build. He would have made a fine assassin had he lived.
Claudia had grown up in the Brotherhood, her eyes are sharp and focused. Her lips, even while curled into a smile is dangerous. She’s beautiful and dressed in a deep red dress with cream ribbons in her hair.
“I see the Auditore genes run strong in your family,” Ezio comments with a grin, eyeing Desmond’s beard.
The young man raises a brow. “I mean, I did get some girls in my time too.”
“Unfortunately, he is most like you, Brother,” Claudia snorts.
“Nonsense, he clearly looks like me,” another voice interrupts and Desmond whips his head up to see Altair standing there with Maria Thorpe at his side and their two sons behind them.
Everyone at the table greets the new arrivals with a slight bow of their heads and smiles. Desmond stands up, unable once again to find the words when faced with Altair. He’s gonna punch himself in the face for being this fucking stupid in front of his ancestors. Who is he? Shaun?
“Look at his face, Altair,” Ezio gestures to him. “Clearly me.”
“His eyes,” Altair gestures while grinning at Desmond. “Me.”
“You all look the same,” Connor butts in with a flat tone.
This diffuses the argument as laughter bursts around the entire table. Desmond takes a seat as Altair and his family fills in the spot on the other side of Ezio. Dinner commences then and while Desmond has a long path of grief to go along he can’t help but feel good being surrounded by all his ancestors. They’ve been through the war he just got out of, they’ve seen the horrors and felt the losses. He’s here with them now and he can only wait and see what comes next.

armour off
it’s not supposed to be, like, a twist or anything, more like a “well yeah obviously”.
She keeps looking into all the mirrors, making sure no one is following. She’s speeding, but it’s not the cops she’s worried about. Xena isn’t worried at all, she’s having a great time sticking her head out the window. Such a gorgeous dog, with such a beautiful nature. She’s lucky to have had a companion like her. Undeserving, too.
The drive has always felt long, but today it’s the longest it’s ever been. Oddly enough, she’s breathing fine. Her head is clear. Her blood isn’t pumping too hard, her heart isn’t beating too fast. To remain calm is ideal, but she thinks that maybe this is too calm. She thinks that maybe she’d secretly been desperate for something like this to happen. Well - not exactly like this. But something similar enough that would need for her to make a quick and efficient escape.
Her father answers the door, and his eyes light up immediately - but before he can cry out in greeting, Alice, standing at the end of the front hall, beats him to it.
“My warrior princess!”
Valkyrie hears the patter of her sister’s footfalls and for a moment, just for a moment, her composure threatens to break. Alice buries her face right into Xena’s fur, and likewise the dog is wildly excited to see her little friend. Desmond takes the opportunity to pull Valkyrie into a one-armed hug. Outwardly, it’s a casual welcome, but Valkyrie can feel it. Her dad doesn’t want to let go.
She hugs him back, and doesn’t want to let go either. But time is of the essence.
Alice has seen her now, and she shyly bats her eyes at Valkyrie. She knows her sister, but all the same there’s times where visits are few and far between, and the girl ducks her chin and steps behind her father’s legs.
“Alice,” says Desmond. “Look who it is!”
“Good morning, Stephanie,” mumbles Alice. “How are you.”
“Dad,” Valkyrie says, keeping her voice as steady as she can. “I’m sorry, I hate to do this - I’m not here to visit. Something came up really suddenly, I have to - I’m leaving the country. It’s okay - don’t worry, it’s for a job - everything’s fine, I’ll be safe…”
“You need somewhere for Xena to stay.”
“I’m sorry, I’m--”
“Steph,” says Desmond, and hugs her again. “Don’t be sorry. Anything you need. We’ll look after her.” He withdraws and looks down at his youngest, who is back to being licked head to toe by the dog. “We’ll look after Xena, won’t we, Alice? We’ll do some puppysitting? You, me and mum?”
“I can puppysit,” chirps Alice.
“I wish I could…” Valkyrie starts again. “Where is mum?”
“Out. She’ll be so upset she missed you, but...she’ll understand. You’re our busy girl out saving the world. I’ll send your love.”
“Thank you.” She hesitates, and hugs him a third time, and this is the one that makes her eyes water.
“Have fun with your...stuff.” Desmond waggles his fingers. “Magic business. Best of luck. Bring back souvenirs. How’s Skulduggery?”
“Good. Grand. I’m sorry. I have to go. I don’t know how long I’ll be.”
Desmond tries to get Alice to say a proper goodbye to Valkyrie, but she’s much too interested in Xena. Xena, meanwhile, whimpers and wags her tail in farewell to her mistress. When Valkyrie turns around, she doesn’t let herself look back.
Valkyrie heard cheers and screams, but nothing else. She knew, though, that it didn’t mean anything good. If the anti-Sanctuary troops out there made any noise at all, it never meant anything of the sort.
She’d managed to rest her eyes somewhat, but a throbbing headache prevented her from sleeping. The aches had fully settled in after a half hour of lying down, the kind that made her limbs occasionally convulse. She had to keep her legs straight, but that was tough when they couldn’t fit on the bed from her calves down. She felt heavy and grimy - though the shirt was still good.
The last light of the day has drained out of the room when Valkyrie gets up. There’s a wall-mounted lantern with a tiny flickering flame, one she doubts is going to go out anytime soon, and it’s just enough for her to see, but the shadows draw long lines across the floor in a way that unsettles her. She misses being an Elemental, being able to light her way with ease. All she can manage now are a few pathetic sparks when she rubs her hands together.
The utensils for cleaning herself had been hidden behind the washing machine. Valkyrie unplugs a hose from the wall for a moment to fill the medium bucket with water, plugs it back in and throws her trousers in the machine. Takes the shirt back off. Rinses her hair, combing her fingers through. Scrubs the soap and sponge over every bloodied part on her body - which is every part.
Valkyrie can’t help but smirk when she throws the dirty water out through the window and hears some anti-Sanctuary nut yelp. She refills the bucket and works on details now. Dirt and blood under her nails, taking off the smaller bandages and dabbing at her wounds.
She would much prefer a long soak in a hot bath, but these aren’t the worst washing conditions she’s had to deal with in the past ten months. Washing herself under that bridge in rural, rural France - that experience holds the title. At least she’s behind a locked door.
A new shadow draws across the floor and over her skin, and back come the goosebumps. From behind her, Skulduggery makes a sound she doesn't think she's ever heard from him before. A weird hitch in breath that doesn't exist.
“Hi,” says Valkyrie without turning around. She deliberately snaps the shoulder strap on her bra as a signal that it's alright to stay, she's as decent as she can get while locked away all fairy tale-like. It doesn't matter what state he sees her in, anyway. He's dead.
“My offer still stands,” says Skulduggery.
“What offer?”
“To run away. Vanish into the night, never to be seen again.”
“I think,” Valkyrie begins, then pauses. She squeezes what's left of the water in her hair back into the bucket, then goes over to the window and throws the water out. Another yelp, but this time she is too busy considering her words to smile. “I think I'm done running.”
“Oh?”
“I think it's only right that we end this once and for all. Only then can I travel in good conscience. I want to see my family again.”
Skulduggery is quiet a moment. He sounds almost disappointed when he turns his helmet to the bottom right corner of the floor and says, “Fair enough.”
The washing machine is finished with her pants, but Valkyrie has barely moved before Skulduggery is over there, getting them out, being a personal blow drier. He throws them at her. Valkyrie senses urgency. She shuffles them on and sits down on the bed with the first aid kit, ready to redress any wounds that need to be covered. Some have become less urgent in these passing hours.
Skulduggery wraps one of her arms while she unwraps a bandaid with her teeth. They quietly work away until all has been taken care of, and then he pushes the shirt upon her. The two of them sit in silence a moment, two incredibly tall people folded uncomfortably over a tiny bed.
“Alright,” says Valkyrie, adjusting herself into a cross-legged position. “Armour off.”
Skulduggery looks away.
“Please, Skulduggery. It's me, for God’s sake.”
“Did I tell you how much I missed you?”
“You may have mentioned it.”
“And did I tell you how much I love you?”
“I try to think of it as a given.”
His chuckle is soft and Valkyrie feels a massive array of things. Safe, oddly enough, is one of them. Skulduggery undoes the clasps on his helmet, very quickly and clinically, and takes it off. He holds the helmet for a second, then it melts into his gauntlets and it's like he never had one at all.
Valkyrie doesn't know what she expected. She doesn't know how he expected her to react. Abyssinia sure did do something. Valkyrie reaches out and touches his cheek, and despite the cold of the armour, he's warm.
“Hm,” she says.
“Hm?” Awaiting approval.
“That's skin, alright.”
Skulduggery bursts out laughing, and at last Valkyrie knows whether he's the type to get teary-eyed from laughing too hard or not. Façades could never cover that ground. She brushes a tear from his eye with her thumb, then withdraws her hand, clasping it in her other.
“So, what - do you eat now?”
He wipes the remainder of the wetness from his eyes and just smiles down at his lap before flickering his gaze up at her. “I do.”
“Oh wow. The great Skulduggery Pleasant now has to piss like the rest of us. This is fantastic news.”
That gets him going again, and it now fully occurs to Valkyrie that, in the time she was gone, the time he spent pretending to be Vile to avoid whatever fate would await otherwise, he probably hasn't laughed at all. He meant it. He had been waiting for her. He had missed her.
“I love you,” says Valkyrie.
He's got those eyes that are really good at blinking at people. She can already see it, blinking slowly and incredulously at someone he thinks is an idiot, the blink that somehow doesn't break the illusion of a long, angry stare. And here and now, an unassuming, innocent kind of blink. She'd be fooled if she didn't know him.
“If you're expecting me to say it back,” says Skulduggery, “you're in for disappointment. I said it there earlier, didn’t you hear? I don't need to say it again. It would be uneven.”
“I love you!” repeats Valkyrie, louder than expected. Her voice and hands are shaky, and she fears for a moment that someone will have heard before recalling that they're far away from prying ears. It could be sweat running down her neck, but it could also be leftover water from her bucket bath. The butterflies in her stomach can't be explained away by any of her wounds, though.
She could give it a go anyway.
“Oh dear,” Skulduggery murmurs. “It seems I no longer have a choice in the matter. Well, I suppose I must respond in kind…”
He trails off and goes quiet, starts working his gauntlets off. Valkyrie doesn't wonder why for long - it's so she doesn't freeze when he puts his hands on her shoulders. They're gloved like normal, but she can see a flash of skin where she would have once seen bone. He looks right into her eyes.
“I love you, too,” says Skulduggery.
Valkyrie starts laughing nervously. She can't help it. Nothing about this is particularly funny at the moment, and she doesn't feel like laughing, but this is not something she has any control over. She reaches up to her left shoulder and takes his hand off, holds it in both her hands in her lap instead. Holding on maybe too tight. He squeezes her hand back.
“When?” Valkyrie asks quietly.
“It took a month to locate the kind of magic she said could match me.”
She doesn't want to know, but the next question is already tumbling out of her mouth, “How many?”
He looks at their hands. “Six.”
Abyssinia needed two and an injury.
“I don’t suppose I need to explain why she did it. For control, you understand. A knife in the ribcage used to be a dismissible, albeit painful, experience. If you were to stab me through the heart now, I would most certainly die.”
“Hey,” mutters Valkyrie, rapping her knuckles against his breastplate, “at least you got this.”
“Yes, well. It may not do me much good if you keep insisting I take it off.”
Her grip had loosened without her being aware of it, but Skulduggery is still determinedly holding her hand. Valkyrie is warm.
“So what now?” she asks. Then, to clarify, “How do we save the world?”
“I think we can spare some time to work on a brilliant plan.”
“The sooner we get things back to normal, the better.”
Skulduggery slowly releases her hand and sets his down on his knee. He looks at her, then to the corner, then the ceiling, then back at her. “I doubt we can restore everything, but yes. You're right.”
Valkyrie bites her lip and isn't sure how to phrase her next question. “I don’t suppose there would be a sure fire way to get you back to...being…”
“Sure,” he says. “Fire.” And he grins at her for a second before dropping it. “That was terrible, I apologise. No. To kill me again would be the last time. This is it now.”
“You're not happy about that.”
“Of course I'm not. I hate it. I'm repulsive. But I've had time to mellow. Ah, you should have seen me in winter. I was…” He flexes both hands, a humourless smile playing on his mouth. “Furious.”
Valkyrie can only imagine. “You're not repulsive.”
Skulduggery smiles rather genuinely at her by way of responding, and she can no longer think of anything to say. So they just sit there in complete silence, gazes drifting away from one another and finding their way back. It's just that - Valkyrie thinks she needs to stare in order to fully get acquainted with the idea. That's perfectly fine, perfectly acceptable. But now that Skulduggery can't hide it anymore, now that she knows he does it, she can't think of an excuse to explain why he just keeps looking back at her.
“Skulduggery…”
“Valkyrie.”
“You sleep now, don’t you?”
“Not very well.”
She feels stupid and childish, but all the same - “Will you stay with me? At least until you need to go?”
He blinks at her. And blinks at her again. “Of course. Of course I will.”
His hair comes back long and his face comes back scruffy. He had gotten that way during his three days at the end of Serpine’s right hand, and for some god awful reason it had apparently been worth saving. The Necromancers let him up after a month of being tied to a slab to get him to walk again. He runs instead. After getting him into some bound chains, they get him shaved and his hair cut. Abyssinia speaks to him, holding his chin in her palm, taking the rare opportunity to be the tall one while he's on his knees. His saliva isn't fully running yet, but he tries to spit anyway. She just laughs.
She keeps him underground for another month before tossing in the armour. She puts it in very plain terms what she can and will do the moment she even thinks he's going to step out of line. If he behaves, she tells him, it can be like the old days, if he wants. He doesn't say a word, not one. Doesn't speak to anyone at all.
Gant waits every day, very eagerly, for news of suicide, and every day he is disappointed when he spots the dark figure roaming the fortress. The figure holds itself in a way that suggests the smallest thing could set it off. Two months and three days into Abyssinia’s occupation, Gant gathers the latest details on the chase. He finds Vile standing in the darkness between the fortress buttresses, silently observing the troops below.
“You must be so out of the loop, skeleton.” For reasons he cannot explain, Gant gets a lot of enjoyment out of referring to him as something he no longer is. He supposes it’s just amusing to remind him of something special he lost. And it’s already time to do it again. “So many things to be filled in on. Did Abyssinia tell you about the little groups she’s got out there in the world, combing through all the rundown hotels and back alleyways?”
Vile is still. He might not even be listening.
“No, I didn’t think she had.”
Gant looks down at the troops. They’re not all Neoterics, but he finds it easier to refer to them as such anyway. Quite a few of them are hundreds of years old, and have been lying in wait for something like this, whether they be affiliated with the anti-Sanctuary, Erskine Ravel’s fanatics, or on their own until now. Gant is glad he’s not one of them, that he gets to be up here with Abyssinia.
“She’s alive.”
This is no longer the “she” being referred to a sentence prior, but that doesn’t need clarification. It’s evident that Vile knows who is being referred to when he closes his hand around Gant’s throat and shoves him violently up against the wall. Gant wheezes and kicks his legs, hands coming up to uselessly bat at Vile’s arm.
“Where,” says Vile.
“I don’t - know,” Gant chokes and coughs. “That’s - what the - trackers - are for.”
“Where.”
Tears spring to his eyes, but he still does his best to stare into that void of a visor. “Last sighting was - gah - New Zealand. Five hours ago.”
Vile releases Gant’s throat and lets him drop, stands there a moment considering what to leave him with, something painful and inconvenient but won’t risk his own position. Abyssinia can handle broken legs easily. With Gant howling in pain, Vile tears up the buttresses, allowing large chunks of wall to fall and endanger the troops below, and then he’s gone.
He’d blacked out when Abyssinia ambushed, in a very literal manner, as she activated his Necromancy and smothered him with it. When he was back in a state where he was aware of what was happening around him, he was a bare skeleton on a slab. There was not one mention of Valkyrie’s name. If he brought her up, and he constantly did, he was ignored.
Now that he knows she’s alive and out there, running and fighting for her life, he very much feels like an unused furnace being lit up again. He hopes they never catch her. He hopes she never has to see him again.
Skulduggery couldn’t sleep before, but now he can - and when he does he dreams of her and calls her name, and always wakes in tears.

“So you met his imaginary ass brother today, huh?” Syn questioned Amina as she wrapped thick glossy lips around the White Owl the group had stuffed with Gelato Cookies.
“Oh, he definitely wasn’t imaginary.” Amina responded, smiling brightly and working to pair the White Owl with a Backwood of Hindu Kush.
“I told you, you was gone like him.” Legacy bragged, working to stuff his ripped Dutch with OG Kush. “He corny as hell, just like yo ass.” He said before ignoring yet another phone call to his phone.
“Why don’t you just turn it off?” Syn asked before showing off her perfectly pearled blunt. “Pay up motherfuckers!”
“Whatever, you get the ripped shit next time.” Legacy said tossing the tragic blunt aside and picking up his phone. “And I can’t. Fuck around my Momma be on the beach screaming my name.”
“So what was his weird-ass name?” Syn asked lighting the blunt. “You still gotta roll that by the way, honey. Otherwise, you ain’t hitting this.”
“Hitting what?” Legacy flirted as Syn rolled her eyes at his charm.
“This,” She said passing the blunt to Amina, before lifting her leg open to tap on her pussy. “Or this.”
Legacy kissed his teeth as Amina answered her question. “Reynard. He almost shit himself talking to me, though.”
The group all laughed as Syn lounged back in the bean bag chair, and lit the second blunt for their rotation. “Reynard? That’s weirder than weird.”
“I like it, it’s distinguished. Better than Rain.” Legacy and Syn both agreed that Rain was better than Reynard and the two of them would be perfectly corny together. “Whatever. He’s super cute too, Syn. Like- I can’t wait to be on some Ghost shit with him at the bookstore.”
“Y’all gone be killing, motherfuckers?” Syn joked as she choked on the smoke from the blunt. While Amina explained she meant the movie, Legacy just shook his head.
Legacy was the baby nobody saw coming. Before he was born, his parents had officially called it quits and had separated. Before a small backslide led to six more years of them trying to make their relationship work. All of his life, his father had lived elsewhere. Whenever the man did spend some time with his boys, it was usually over at their grandmother’s house, since at any given moment Desmond could be involved in some shit that they didn’t need to see. So he grew up on all of the things kids his age considered old.
“How you be knowing all of this shit?” Syn said attempting to pass the blunt. However, Legacy was still trying to work with the ripped cigar. “Just give it here.”
“Naw, I got it.” As Legacy’s lips wrapped around the blunt, Syn watched closely growing wet watching his lips and tongue work the cigar.
“Do Reynard got them lips though?” Syn joked and Amina agreed.
“Oh yes. His might even be a little bigger, though. And sexier, definitely sexier.” Legacy stuck his middle finger up at the girl before sitting back on the couch inside Amina’s pool house. “So, I’m I getting a neighbor or what?”
“I don’t know. He gotta talk to Moms first. She might let him if Heir says so.” Legacy ignored the two girls’ predictable comments about his older brother, and silenced his phone once more, while he continued talking, “She been babying Rain ever since she had post-partum.”
“How do you know all of this? Ain’t you the baby, Little Man.” Syn teased as Legacy swap blunts with the girl.
“Man, when you got that many kids, adults don’t give a fuck what they say in front of you.” He said, and Amina agreed. Coming for a big family herself she could relate to learning the secrets behind the family secrets before she even knew who they were talking about.
“Why you two just don’t hook up, y’all got so much in common?” Syn questioned and both of her friends looked at her. “Oh, because of me.”
Amina rolled her eyes, while Legacy gave Syn the reassurance she needed to know she was the only girl he was fucking – on this side of the city. “He got a girlfriend though. I ain’t tryna get involved in no drama this summer. I wanna go off to college, guilt-free. Make all my mistakes there, and then bring my ass home.”
While Legacy was of course going to Smithdale University Uptown, Amina was going to Dépänd School of Art in Mamey Grove and Syn would be going all the way to Harmon College in Mason. He didn’t know he had a choice between the two girls when they first invited him over, Amina being more reserved about her intentions with the boy compared to Syn. However, when Legacy heard she was going miles away for school – he chose to spend his time down at the beach in Syn before going off to college.
“Oh, you finally texting her back?” Syn asked as the group swap blunts and she noticed Legacy texting. “Or is that your Mommy.” She teased.
“Naw, this Karin.” Legacy said with a smile. “She on her lunch break.”
“That’s yo favorite, ain’t it?” Amina asked, noticing the genuine smile on Legacy's face with every push to his screen.
Legacy responded by nodding his head with the same goofy smile Amina now couldn’t get out her head, “I been fucking with Karin since I knew what to do with it.”
“What?” Syn asked sitting up to look Legacy in his eyes. Amina looked over to the girl to see if she detected jealously in her tone, while Legacy didn’t look up until he was done texting Karin back. “What the fuck you doing, sending that bitch a novel?”
“Woah!” Both Legacy and Amina called out with laughter, as Syn tried to walk back her slip up.
“You not, catching feelings are you? This not that. We talked about this.” Amina checked her own phone to avoid being caught between the temporary lover’s quarrel. Especially after Legacy finished up his statement by saying, “And don’t ever call her out her name again.”
“Relax, I’m sorry for offending you and little Miss Karin. I was just caught off guard. I thought all your bitches were new bitches.”
“Syn, he just said.” Amina sweetly injected, as Syn went to explain she didn’t call Karin a bitch specifically. Legacy just shook his head. He really liked fucking Syn, she treated sex like a bucket list of things she wanted to do before going off to college. It would be a shame to have to cut her off so early in the summer because she couldn’t keep her emotions in check.
“It’s cool. I probably should’ve been more open.” Legacy teased, recanting the ‘rules’ Syn had for him before they began sleeping together. “Only new bitch is you. I’ve been fucking both of them for damn near forever.”
“See, I didn’t know that. That changes things.”
“How?”
“You don’t think they got feelings for you? One more missed phone call and Ta-ta-da-licious gone come find yo ass. And I don’t want that type of drama. Right, Amina.”
“Leave me out of this.” She said before sitting back on the mismatched wicker love seat and focusing on her cell phone and her own entanglements.
“Me too.” Legacy said attempting to pass the blunt to Syn, who just stared at him. He wanted to just call it a night and go back to his father’s house and talk to Karin for the remainder of her break, but Syn’s chinky doe-eyes caught him in a trance. “Karin got a real boyfriend, so you ain’t gotta worry about her.”
“And the other one.”
“She ain’t even got a car.”
“Neither did you a few weeks ago.” Amina added. As Syn tried to use her comment to justify her jealous, Legacy stared at Amina.
“See, you was supposed to be on my side. Now, I’m not giving you Reynard number.”
“You weren’t giving it to me anyway!” Amina shouted sitting up, as Legacy leaned in to switch blunts with her instead of Syn, he showed her a text from Rain saying it was okay if he gave the girl his number. “Oh my god! Syn, be nice.”
“Damn, bitch, you that thirsty for some dick?” She shot before standing. “Gimme my blunt, I’m going home before Little Man gets the spot blown up.” Amina rolled her eyes before passing the girl her White Owl back. “If y’all can just pick names now, why the fuck would you keep Little Man, little man.”
“Man shut the fuck up and take yo hurt ass home. Don’t nobody smoke no fucking White Owl anyway.” Amina tried not to laugh as she sat back and worked on her message to Rain.
“I bet you would like it if I went home. Test the product before you send it off to your brother. That’s what you do, right?”
“It was hard not to tell him I already met Heaven’s fine ass.”
“And don’t tell him how old you is either.”
“Why not?”
“Reynard do not break no rules.”
“Well, shit how old is he?”
“It don’t even matter. You say 17, he gone say too old for you.”
“Really?” Syn spoke up, breaking Amina and Legacy’s laughter.
“I’m not finna chase you, Syn. My dick good, it’s okay. Now stop trippin’ and sit down.” Amina rolled her eyes before heading into her bedroom inside the pool house, while Legacy motioned for Syn to sit next to him on the couch. “Or you can go home, flick your bean, and just wish you was still here with me.”
“You stink.” Juliette’s voice called, causing Legacy’s eyes to open. Taking in the view of his new-old bedroom, he dodged the sun from his splitting headache. He had no idea how he ended up back at his mother’s house. “Why you in my house, anyway?”
“Dang, Momma.” He said sitting up slowly and quickly checking to make sure there wasn’t a girl somewhere inside the room with him. “I was only supposed to be gone for a few weeks. You and your little boyfriend kicking me out now?”
“Don’t worry about me and mines. What you looking for? A girl. I already put her out.” Legacy just stared at his mother. He may have been fucked up, but he was 100% sure his mother was not this clam after finding another girl in his room this month.
“No Momma, I’m not. I actually kinda missed you.” Legacy spoke, it was the truth. He wanted to come and see the woman yesterday when he asked about coming to get some more of his clothes. But she claimed she wouldn’t be home and sent Rain instead.
“Boy, save that shit for your little girlfriend. You ain’t missed shit but a bath. Get up and get that fucking car out of my driveway. And now, not later. Matter fact, get yo ass back in it and go back to your Daddy’s house.” Legacy chuckled to himself as he listened to his mother continue to talk about him as she headed up the stairs of his house.
Grabbing his keys, he followed his mother’s orders and headed outside to move his car. Stepping out into the sun, Legacy felt like a vampire as he shielded his eyes and rubbed his head to soothe his splitting headache. That was until he heard,
“Oh shit! The champ is here!” from the porch of his brothers’ house next door. Legacy had no idea what Dasun was screaming about. Looking back at his mother’s house, he figured she’d be okay for a few minutes as he walked over to the porch.
“What you talking about?” Legacy questioned, cuing Shadow and Dasun’s laughter.
“Yo ass really was fucked up last night, huh?” Heaven questioned, as Legacy looked at three of his older brothers – utterly confused.
“Okay, what happened for real? Cause he shouldn’t know shit.”
“Oh is that’s a house arrest joke?” Heaven defended himself, before continuing, “So why the fuck you call me first?”
“Call you for what?” Legacy questioned over Shadow and Dasun’s laughter.
“You gotta come get me, Heaven. I don’t wanna die.” Shadow teased, recanting Legacy’s after-hours distress call he put out to all his brothers.
“Just don’t tell Heir. He ain’t gone let Reynard come live with me.” Dasun finished up before laughing uncontrollably.
“And when the fuck did you start calling him Reynard?” Heaven asked in-between his own laughs.
“When he fucked up apparently.” Shadow answered before he and Dasun went back to laughing over each other.
“Man,” Legacy said checking for his mother while his brothers teased him. Before stepping closer to Heaven, who had found the perfect spot on the porch to stay out of their mother’s view.
“Naw, move Big Man! This spot only works for one nigga.” Heaven said pushing him away.
“Would you fucking clowns just tell me what happened?” Legacy asked stepping back to look at his brothers all laughing at him, with tears forming in their eyes.
“Oh shit, you alive?” Rain asked stepping outside. Even his girlfriend, Kendie, seemed to know how Legacy had gone from fucking Syn on Amina’s couch to waking up in his old bedroom smelling like 1942 and sourdough bread.
“Will you tell me what happened?” He asked, but Rain’s eyes diverted to Kendie, trailing behind him.
“I just know how much you love me, bro.” Legacy accepted Rain’s joke, simply because it obviously had something to do with girls and he couldn’t explain it all in front of Kendie.
“Whatever, nobody told Heir, though right?”
“How you think you got here? I couldn’t come to get you.” Heaven said and Legacy began to throw a fit while his brothers all laughed at him. Pulling his phone out of pocket to see if there was something in it that could point him in the direction he needed to piece together his missing hours.
“Stop teasing him.” Karin’s voice filled the porch as she whispered through the house’s screen door to avoid being detected by Juliette.
“Hold on, I know you didn’t sleep in there.”
“Relax slugger. She slept in my room.” Heaven said igniting the porch’s laughter as Legacy slipped inside to talk to Karin since his brothers were going to be no help in helping him understand what happened last night.
“I did not. Well, I did sleep here. But not in Heaven’s room. Kendie and Rain – Reynard – slept on the couch.”
“That’s what he said his name was.” Legacy said, knowing he could trust Karin with anything.
“So you did introduce him to that girl. I thought you fucked her, already?” Karin inquired. She had been trying to figure out what Legacy had been up to down at his father’s since a Facetime call was interrupted by his late-night smoke buddies.
“She’s not my type.”
“Oh, so she single.”
“What happened!” He called for Karin to tell him, as he sat down on the couch to figure it all out himself, texting Amina first and then looking over his messages to Karin.
“Okay, easy killer. Tanika threw TaKisha a party last night. I guess she ended up getting into Smithdale after all.”
“What?” Legacy said. Now, much more concerned with that news than whatever happened.
“Yeah, guess y’all gone be seeing each other more than you thought.” Legacy shook his head while keeping his eyes on Karin’s petite frame as she disappeared into the kitchen for a moment. “Anyway. You must’ve shown up to her party around one or two. You called me after I got off at 4:30 and said your brothers wouldn’t come to get you and you were too fucked up to drive. I had my sister drive me over there, picked you up, got in your car and I brought you back here. I was gonna gone home myself, but that bitch took my car out west.”
“How the fuck you getting your car back?”
“Well,” She started and Legacy shook his head. “Don’t. I literally picked you up from another bitch’s house.”
“Fair enough.” Legacy said still going through his phone to figure out what else he had done.
“Apparently you and him fought, like y’all always do.”
“Well, you need to keep your boyfriend on a leash.” Karin just stared at Legacy. He was the one who started the fight.
“You just need to leave big boy drugs to the big boys.” She said before heading back into the kitchen.
“Why y’all keep talking in riddles?” He called to the girl, looking at all the Snaps he had taken from the party. Thankfully, not one had Karin, TaKisha, or Syn in them. Even fucked up, he was still player of the year.
“You took some Pure last night. And nobody called Heir.” Legacy relaxed a little, as Karin passed him a cup of coffee, an aspirin, and a quickly made breakfast sandwich of scrambled eggs, cheese, and a sausage patty. Legacy took the aspirin and coffee but refused the sandwich, “You gone want something on your stomach when you start going through withdrawals.”
“Withdrawals?”
“What you think Prue is? It’s Molly and Coke, you gone have withdrawals. Unless your little thotiana hooked you up with another pill.”
“At least, Heir don’t know.” Legacy said sipping his coffee
“Well, he was there.” In a dramatic response, Legacy spit the coffee out and Karin screamed. From the porch, he could hear his brothers laughing – assuming Karin had got to the part when Heir locked the boy in a room by himself to wait for Karin to come to get him.
“Why was he there?” Legacy asked as Karin closed the door to drown out his brothers’ laughter.
“It was a party, and he sells drugs. Look, Deangelo on his way to get me from my Aunts.”
“I can take you home.”
“Can you take me to get my car?” Legacy paused for a moment. He had nothing to do and wouldn’t mind driving the girl to West Catlin to get her car from her trifling sister, but that felt like a boyfriend’s job. “Exactly.”
“I’ll do it.” He said, mostly because he didn’t want Karin to leave just this second and wanted to spend time with her since he was sober.
“Thanks, Little Man, but- Deangelo already don’t believe that I’m not with you. And after y’all childish ass fight, he could use the win.” Legacy rolled his eyes thinking about Karin’s boyfriend. What he said last night to Syn was true. He had lost his virginity to Karin, but he had also been beefing with her boyfriend Deangelo since then. “When did you and TaKisha start fucking around again anyway? Cause I still ain’t even seen a carpet fiber from your momma house.”
“You always at work.” Legacy mumbled and Karin smiled, before leaning in to kiss his cheek.
“I don’t have to work tonight or tomorrow. Soon as I come back, and ditch Deangelo. I’ll take you to my nephew's garage.”
“He got some fucking heat in there yet?”
“Beggars can’t be choosers.” She said grabbing her purse and heading towards the back of the house to escape without Juliette spotting her. “Also,” She said doubling back to whisper in Legacy’s ear. “TaKisha has been fucking with Quentin, lately. But then again you probably knew that. That’s why you fucking her, witcho side piece ass. Bye!”
“Bye.” Legacy flatly said watching Karin leave the house. “Wait, what?” He called back to her. However, Karin was long gone. Looking over his shoulder to make sure the door was close and Heaven couldn’t overhear him, Legacy called TaKisha to speak directly to the source.
“What?” TaKisha answered the phone after two rings, however, her tone made it clear she was not happy to hear from the boy.
“What you mad at me or something?” He said playing it cool and moving back towards the kitchen.
“You ruined my party by fighting your ex-bitches boyfriend. Then your brother had to lock you up like a fucking animal because you wouldn’t clam down. On top of that, you called me Karin, Syn, and Amina. Whoever the fuck they are. Then you told me it didn’t matter what my name was anyway. Because you were just gone forget us all when you go off to college. The same college I’m going to by the way.”
“Congratulations?”
“What do you want, Legacy?”
“I wanna make it up to you.” He said leaning on the kitchen’s island, and looking towards the front door to make sure it was still closed.
“Oh really? How the fuck you gone do that Legacy? I don’t want your little dick after you done showed it to everybody.”
“I really hope you mean figuratively.”
“No, literally nigga. I told you not to take that shit. But you were too focused on Deangelo to even hear me.”
“I’m sorry, Kisha. Please let me make it up to you.”
“How, nigga? You fucking embarrassed me. You lucky my boyfriend wasn’t there. I didn’t even ask you to come.”
“You called me like 100 times.”
“For Heir’s number, motherfucka. If you weren’t so busy ignoring me, you would’ve known that.” Legacy just shook his head, thinking to himself So why would I just show up to your party? Especially, after I had just got me some ass. “I told you to stay your high ass down at the beach. You were already done when you finally called me back. But nope. Nobody can ever tell Little Man, shit.”
“That fucking moonshine.” Legacy mumbled to himself, reminded that after he and Syn finished fucking, Amina came out of her bedroom with a bottle of the strong liquor for them to drink. “So, how you get Heir number?”
“Legacy, I’mma talk to you later.” Before she could hang up, Legacy begged her to stay on the phone. Admitting that he was just trying to understand what happened last night. “We both know how I got Heir number. You know I’m dating Quentin now, that’s the only reason why you so interested me. That, and the fact, Karin dumbass stuck here working at that warehouse and ain’t got no time for your bullshit no more. Go fuck your brother and leave me alone.”
“Aye!” Legacy called out. She was right. The only reason why he started having sex with TaKisha, to begin with, was that her older sister was Tanika, Heaven’s girlfriend. And as quiet as it was kept, Heaven had tried to talk to TaKisha first, but she was too young for him. So he settled with Tanika. And now with TaKisha dating one of his oldest friends, it was like Legacy was doubling down on pissing Heaven off. “I told you I wanna make it up to you. But if you just gone be mean, I guess I’ll just talk to you later.”
“You still ain’t told me how you gone make it up to me, nigga.”
“Wanna go to the beach?”
Even Legacy believed staying with Desmond would be a cakewalk, but he was still trying to prove himself to Juliette with rules almost as ridiculous as hers. So Legacy didn’t even bother with trying to sneak TaKisha into his father’s house with all the alarms he had set up to alert him of Legacy’s comings and goings.
“Can we not go in the house?” TaKisha asked as they sat in the driveway. “You could’ve took me back home if that was the case.”
Legacy just sighed heavily, as he wanted for Amina to text him back. Although she and Syn had been friends longer than him and her, she was cool as hell, offering her pool house up to Legacy to use whenever he wanted. Since he couldn’t have girls over past a certain hour at Desmond’s. He was just waiting for her to give him the go-ahead. Afraid that Syn would forget what they discussed and show up to ruin everything.
On the other hand, with all the complaining TaKisha had done all day long, he was wondering was all of this really worth getting under Heaven’s skin. Legacy respected all of his older brothers, even Shadow. Heir took to the streets to provide for them after Desmond was locked up, while Dasun was the family’s protector ready to beat whoever he had to up for the boys, and Shadow as like Mr. Mom – since he was cooking and cleaning up behind his babies anyway. While living with Heaven, was hell. Stuck in the middle flying under Juliette’s radar, Heaven got away with murder. Starting little fires to distract their mother from the bullshit he was up to behind her back. While Rain had grown up to just accept this was the way things were, Legacy never forgave Heaven for the beating he got after Juliette rushed home early one day to find Legacy and Karin alone in their apartment. Meanwhile, Heaven was stealing her house key to make his own copy, so he could come and go in the dead of the night while she was sleeping.
“Come on,” Legacy spoke to TaKisha after Amina finally texted him back. She assured him that Syn wouldn’t be a problem as the two were going Uptown to a nightclub and the pool house was all his. “And don’t ask me a bunch of questions. Last time I kicked it with you, we was stuck in a living room with your dying uncle.”
“He is not dying. It’s just an oxygen tank.” To get through the rest of the night, Legacy just envisioned the look on Heaven’s face when he found out that he was fucking his best friend’s girl. “Damn, your Daddy rich as hell. We going in here?” TaKisha commented along their walk through the backyard and down to the beach.
“Didn’t I say don’t ask questions?” Legacy said, peeking through the window of their pool house to see if it was still unlocked. At this point, he’d fuck her right on the sand just to shut her up.
“I ain’t know you were serious.” were TaKisha’s final words as she quietly followed Legacy down the beach towards Amina’s pool house. “Can I talk at least?” She questioned once they were inside. However, Legacy was done with hearing her voice as he grabbed her waist tightly and pushed his lips against hers. Parting her lips with his tongue, Legacy multitasked kissing her with lifting the girl’s body to sit her on the counter of the kitchenette and reaching up her skirt to pull down her panties. “Fuck,” TaKisha moaned out as Legacy’s kisses moved down below. “Legacy,” She moaned out. At first, he thought it was from the work his tongue was putting in. That was until she called it three more times in a row before pulling his head from between her legs.
As Legacy went to question what she could possibly want now, He noticed Amina and Syn standing in the doorway of her bedroom. As Syn began laughing loudly, Amina spoke up. “I thought you meant, in like an hour or something. We haven’t left yet.”
“You said go head.” Legacy spoke getting off his knees, as TaKisha slid off the counter to stand behind him.
“Yeah, ‘go head’, in like an hour or something. You didn’t even say you were back, already.” While Syn just continued to laugh, Amina figured she’d be the adult in the situation and introduce them. “I’m Amina, and this my girlfriend-”
“Symera.” Syn spoke, stepping closer to shake TaKisha’s hand, but Amina pulled her back.
“Don’t mind us, we were just getting ready to leave. Just lock the door behind you.”
“Oh, but baby,” Syn said playing along with Amina’s lie. “Wouldn’t you rather stay here and finally get to know, TaKisha right? Little Man talks about you practically all the time. We can stay for just a little while right babe?”
“Naw, y’all should get going. Maybe another time.” Legacy spoke up eyeing Syn.
“Legacy cut it out. You said you were trying to make up ruining my party. So far all we did was eat salty ass pretzel and stare at the ocean. We could’ve done that on the boardwalk.” TaKisha spoke up, excited to get to know anybody close to the boy that was not one of his lying ass brothers.
“We have a reservation though, honey. Maybe next time you’re here.” Amina said pulling Syn towards the door.
“We can cancel them, babe. Please, just for a little while.” Syn asked pulling out a blunt and sitting down on the couch she and Legacy had just fucked on less than 24 hours ago. “You smoke?” She said as she patted the seat next to her for TaKisha to take. “You could just go home, Little Man. I’m sure she’d have more fun with us anyway.”
“Get your girl, Amina.” Legacy said as Amina just shook her head. She was officially out, as she just went into her bedroom. She attempted to save Legacy once more, by slamming the door behind her. Hoping that would convince TaKisha that they should go.
“Don’t worry about her. She’s all bark and no bite. We wanna meet our puppies?” Syn said with a conniving smile.
“I love puppies!”
“How you explain this, crazy?” Legacy asked cornering Syn in the kitchen after TaKisha went outside to talk to Quentin. One blunt had turned into two. And those two blunts turned into shots and a conversation Legacy thought would never end.
“How come, you never went down on me?”
“I don’t just put my mouth on everybody.”
“Good thing I do then, huh?” Syn asked leaning into Legacy’s face and blowing him a kiss. “Relax it's not like its Karin. You shouldn’t care anyway, right?”
“You know fucking you wasn’t as crazy as you are, I’d stop fucking with you.”
“Please, you not gone stop fucking with me because you don’t even know what you want.”
“I know I what I want.” Legacy said. His voice was firm as an indication that he was not impressed by Syn’s actions, yet his eyes raked over the girl’s body quickly sucking the air out of the room as Syn reluctantly smirked at Legacy’s intense gaze.
“Oh really?” She purred adjusting her body to face Legacy inside the kitchen. “So how come Ta-ta-da-licious has now seen your new house, spent the day with you at the pier, and met your bestie back there. Meanwhile, your favorite is where exactly? Do you even know?”
“Shit, did I say something to you when I was drunk?” Legacy asked, peeking out the window to see TaKisha on the phone. He couldn’t hear the girl, but from her body movements, he believed she was arguing with her boyfriend.
“You mostly talked about Reynard. You’re pretty lonely in that house, huh?” Legacy looked at her. And Syn grew silent for a moment. She was used to drinking moonshine with Amina, but it was clear now that Legacy was not. “I’m sorry, you really don’t remember, huh? I promise I didn’t do this not because I’m jealous. We told you not to go to that party. You don’t want that girl, Little Man. You just mad at Heaven because he spending all his time with Rain now.”
“What the fuck? That’s even true.” Legacy said walking away from Syn and heading towards the door to go outside with TaKisha.
“I’m sorry, you said it not me.” Legacy quickly turned around to tell Syn she was wrong, but he didn’t need to say the words. Obviously, his drunken heart had spoken words his sober mind wasn’t ready to hear aloud. “Okay. Look, me and Amina about to leave. Don’t be mad at me. I thought I was kinda helping by cockblocking. But if we all,” She spoke with emphasis, hoping Amina would come back her up so she didn’t seem like she was just making this all up to be a hater. “Just gone act like you didn’t just pour your heart out about your brothers, then fine, keep doing you. Long as it includes doing me. Until you and your boo thang go off to Smithdale.”
As Legacy went to still tell Syn how wrong she was, Amina finally came out of her bedroom to add to the conversation. “She’s right, Little Man. You got pretty emotional about Reynard, and being alone. Then you said were going to her party to fuck her and her sister since Heaven couldn’t leave the porch to stop you.”
“Finally, thank you, babe. Your dick is good and everything, but I would much rather be your friend. You love Karin and your brother, I get that. That’s why I know you do not wanna do this.”
Legacy paused for a moment, looking at both Syn and Amina. He absolutely was lonely down here on the beach without his brothers, and that time he spent with them today was probably the most fun he had all summer. “What the fuck I’mma do when I go to Smithdale?”
“It’s not that long of a drive.” Amina answered rationally, while Syn spat out,
“Ta-ta-da-licious will be there to keep you safe.”
As Syn laughed and apologized once again, Legacy rolled his eyes before opening the door and stepping outside to check on TaKisha. Just in time to hear her telling Quentin everything from where she was to who she was with. With tears forming in her eyes, and Quentin’s voice booming through the receiver, Legacy smirked a little. His dirty work was over, all he had to do now was return to sender.
That was until his phone began buzzing with texts from Heaven;
Q don’t fight Big Man, hope Desmond down there teaching how to shoot
This gotta be the dumbest shit you’ve ever done. All because of a whopping you got at 14?
You better call Heir, cause they only Heaven that can help you now is God’s

Commander Erwin Smith
A/N: Not gonna lie, I was pretty wine drunk while writing this, so I’m sorry.
--
It took a week and a half for Perrie to hear any news about Eren. In the meantime, she spent the days at the infirmary, working long, exhausting hours to keep her mind off of the situation.
She had come to terms with the fact that, somehow, Eren could turn into a Titan. She had struggled to wrap her mind around it for a while, but eventually, the thought didn’t terrify her..as much. She was still concerned with his health and well-being, however, and wondered what toll this would all take on him. She hoped that he was being well taken care of, wherever he was; though since he was in the custody of the Military Police, she highly doubted it, and that caused her a lot of anxiety and a sore lip.
She was scrubbing her hands raw after her shift when Willa, the other nurse on duty that night, pushed the bathroom door open with wide eyes.
“Commander Erwin Smith is in the lobby waiting for you.” Willa’s voice was urgent and hushed as if Erwin could hear through the walls. Perrie’s eyes went wide and they stared at each other in silence for several seconds, Perrie’s hands hanging over the sink, dripping with water.
“Like...the real Erwin Smith? In the flesh?” she whispered back.
Willa nodded, her strawberry blonde curls bouncing with the movement.
“Well, fuck me.” Perrie muttered, drying her hands off and exited the bathroom, Willa following close behind her.
Erwin Smith’s presence was large and intimidating; he seemed to take up the entire space he was in. He was much taller than Perrie, and the width of his chest seemed to be just as wide as she was tall. As she approached him, she studied his face and was slightly unnerved by the serious, stern look of it. It took her a few moments to realize that he was handsome, his seriousness simply distracted from it. He was like a human storm: imposing, strong, severe, something that refused to be ignored. Something that demanded respect nonetheless.
She didn’t even notice Captain Levi standing beside Erwin until she heard him scoff at her approach.
“Do you ever bathe?” he asked, eyeing her soiled smock. Perrie realized that the man had only ever seen her at her worst, after long, hard, hellish days.
“I do. Ya know, in between saving lives and healing people.” she bit back, raising her brows.
Levi simply stared at her, an unamused frown on his face.
She then looked at Erwin Smith and held her hand out and smiled.
“I just washed them,” she reassured him after seeing Levi scrunch his nose in disgust. Erwin took it with his own, engulfing Perrie’s dainty hand with his own rather large, strong one.
“I’m Erwin Smith, Commander of the Survey Corps. I’ve heard a bit about you, Nurse Styles, and thought I’d meet you myself.” Erwin smiled at her softly, but his eyes were calculating and studying her.
“Please, call me Perrie, sir.” she replied with a soft, polite voice. “Would you like to go to the breakroom so we can talk?”
Erwin nodded. “Sure. This won’t take long, but I’d rather do it away from--” Erwin looked around and locked eyes with Willa and another nurse, who were peeking curiously around a corner. They let out smalls squeaks and hurried away, their faces glowing red. Perrie bit back a smile and gestured for Erwin and Levi to follow her.
The breakroom was small, and it was hard to ignore Erwin’s imposing presence. It made Perrie a bit nervous as she sat across from him. Levi made her feel even more nervous as he stood to their right, leaning against the wall.
“Hange told me she met with you.” Erwin began.
“Yes, sir.” Perrie’s hands played with the hem of her smock as she tried to keep from fidgeting.
“She told me that you were adamant about staying by Eren Yeager’s side.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Commander Pyxis told me the same. He had a very interesting story about a foul-mouthed nurse that insisted she stay by Yeager no matter what, even if that meant going into Titan territory or in the middle of a battle.”
Perrie flushed red and averted her eyes, gluing them to her lap. She chewed her lip.
“Levi here told me you were, and these are his words, not mine, ‘a defiant brat with a tendency of sticking her nose where is doesn't belong.’” he chuckled softly at that and Perrie jerked her head towards Levi and scowled.
“I’ve met you twice!”
Levi shrugged. “I’m quite observant.”
Perrie fought the urge to roll her eyes and looked back at Erwin, who was smiling.
“So, I did some research on you.” he leaned back in the chair he was in and stared at her evenly. “Top in your class, head nurse, very intelligent, a quick thinker and a great team leader. Your superiors spoke very highly of you, as did Pyxis and Hange, from what they could tell about you.” he watched her reaction; she squared her shoulders and held her chin a little higher. Perrie was confident and aware of her accomplishments, she didn’t try to be shy or falsely humble. She worked hard to get where she was and she appreciated recognition.
“They did note, however, that you are easily frustrated, you overwork yourself to exhaustion, and your vocabulary is mostly explicatives.”
She deflated a bit. Perrie looked sheepish as she chewed her lip, hoping her flaws wouldn’t deter him from allowing her to assist Eren.
“With that being said, you’d probably fit right in with us.” he sounded amused and Perrie raised her brows in surprise.
“Why did you decide not to join the military, Perrie? We could use a mind and skills like yours.” he asked, and Perrie shook her head.
“I’d rather save the heroes than be the hero.” she responded.
“Too scared?” Levi teased, and Perrie looked right at him with a serious face.
“Yes, actually.”
Her honesty startled them both a bit, but neither showed it.
“Why do you think we should assign you to Eren Yeager?” Erwin asked after a moment of awkward silence.
“I’m very good at my job, sir, and there’s no telling what shifting will do to Eren physically and mentally. He’ll need someone to monitor him, heal him and help him. Plus, I’ve known him his whole life, and he trusts me more than he’ll trust some military man that just wants to open him up and take a look inside at what makes him tick. And Squad Leader Hange seems more scientific than medical.”
Erwin mulled over her answer before glancing over at Levi, who only shrugged again. He met Perrie’s eyes and leaned towards her, his hands clasped on the table.
“You’ll have to quit your job here.” he said, and Perrie nodded. “You cannot tell anyone where you are or what you’re doing. If, and it’s a big if, we gain custody of Eren, we’ll have to keep him somewhere secure and isolated from the population. You won’t be able to live at home anymore, and your visits to your family will be far and few between.”
That gave Perrie pause, and Erwin noticed her hesitation.
He watched the young woman chew on her lip, a nervous habit he noticed the second he saw her. He had been quite curious about her ever since Hange, Levi and Pyxis all spoke of her, but she seemed to be a perfectly normal woman. Her files were impressive, but not exceptionally so, there were plenty of talented nurses and doctors in the walls. She was soft-spoken and polite, just as Hange had described, and he had noticed her snippy side when she snapped at Levi, but she wasn’t nearly as vulgar as Levi said. He wondered if Levi had been exaggerating when he talked about her short temper and her sharp tongue.
He was mostly curious about the fierce loyalty and analytical talents that her teachers and employers had described. He needed minds like that in the Corps, and he was a bit disappointed that she hadn’t enlisted in the military.
“I’ll do it.” she said finally, and Erwin raised his brows as if to ask if she was sure. “Eren needs me, and I’m going to be there for him.”
Levi rolled his eyes and leaned his head back against the wall. “Tch, another brat to babysit.” he grumbled.
Perrie bristled and shocked Erwin when she hissed, “I’m not a fucking child. I take care of myself.”
Erwin let out a laugh at the look on Levi’s face. “You know, Levi, I think I like her.” he said and Levi glared back at him. Perrie looked smug as she crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair.
Erwin looked back at her and his face grew serious again. “Eren’s trial is tomorrow. Hange will pick you up at 9 o’clock sharp.”
“Yes, sir.” she said and he stood, offering her his hand once more.
“If all goes according to plan, we’ll get Eren back and you’ll join him after the trial. Pack your things tonight and say your goodbyes. I can’t make any promises when you’ll see your father again, and I can’t make any promises that Eren will even make it out of this alive.”
Perrie thought that Erwin was the kind of man that didn’t make any promises at all as she watched him walk out of the breakroom. She waved slightly at Levi as he strode past her, but he didn’t acknowledge her. She felt a bit bad that she always snapped at him, but his attitude and snide remarks pissed her off.
After they left, Perrie sat back down and sighed. The thought of not seeing Desmond felt like a knife to the heart, but she had to do this. Her father was safe and sound at home with his brother to keep him company, but Eren’s life was in too much danger for her not to be there, no matter how much she’d miss her father.

the brick building loomed before him as monty squinted up at it, a hand brought up to sheild his eyes as the light from the sun reflected off the plaque above the doors. GRINGOTTS was the only bank in the wizarding world, operated and managed by the goblins manning the desks past the atrium, and the slytherin would have been lying if he said he completely trusted them to manage his affairs. yet given no alternatives, the sayre family had maintained their vaults for as long as he could remember .. perhaps even longer than his parents could. at the thought of his parents, monty’s blood ran cold. would they have been callous enough to empty his personal vault? he had no key to the family vault so he knew that was off limits, which was fine, but if his own had been emptied? he’d be in quite the pickle... and if there was one thing desmond sayre worried about above all else it was being left with nothing but the few galleons that were safely tucked away at the bottom of his trunk. they certainly wouldn’t cover the few things he needed to prepare for the new school year even  I F  a lot of the books could be re-used. once he’d mustered enough courage to walk inside he approached one of the desks, informing the goblin that he wanted to access his vault.
the goblin peered down at him from below his eyeglasses ; calculating, curious. of what, monty couldn’t be sure .. but it left him unsettled.   “of course, mr. sayre.”  the goblin replied as he hopped down from his perch, crossing around to him. “...which one will you be visiting today?”  monty couldn’t help the look of confusion that shrouded his vision, an eyebrow arching as he turned over his key. “err, this one... i only have the one?”  the goblin simply shook his head as he motioned for monty to follow him down to the carts.  while the journey was not an unfamiliar one to the wizard, the path they travelled to access the vaults was DIFFERENT this time.  when it stopped with a jolt, monty frowned. this large vault with emeralds encrusted around the door looked unfamiliar and he wasn’t sure what they were doing there.  even after the goblin handed him a thick envelope and motioned for him to get out the blond was stunned.  yet he did as he was told, not without a series of undignified murmurs made under his breath, and ripped the envelope open.  he lept back when it ripped itself from his hands, twisting as if it were a howler and opening to reveal its message.
“desmond, my darling,”  the letter cooed, its sound on the low side .. so much so that monty had to lean in to hear the soothing voice of his grandmother, elphadora sayre. she’d passed away when he was ten so it was a bit overwhelming to hear her voice again after so long. “... i hope by the time you hear this, it won’t sound quite so deafening. they’ve assured me it’ll quiet with time but one can only trust so much magic they don’t understand. but that’s enough of that, my boy, you don’t need to listen to the ramblings of an old woman. you’ve done enough of that ‘till now.  i know it’s wrong of me, but you’ve always been my favorite. a lot like your father, you see .. you remind me of how he was before he left home and married your mother. i won’t speak ill of her because she’s your mother and i’m sure you love her, but it’s never been a secret that we’ve had our... differences.”  monty  could practically hear the sneer in her voice and he couldn’t help but laugh, a swell of love rising within him as he strained to hear the rest of her words.  “it breaks my heart to know that your grandfather was just shy of being able to meet his namesake, and that the both of us will never get to see you grow into the extraordinary man i know you can be. your path is just that - your own, and even if you stray from where you think you should be, or feel lost, just know that you’ll always have a home.  live for yourself, my darling, and  N E V E R let anyone hold you back.”    as her words faded away the letter crumpled to dust before his eyes, dropping a single silver key into his hand as the pieces drifted away.  blinking slowly he turned the key over in his hand, swallowing hard when he saw the emblem of their family engraved on the handle.  the key twisted in the lock to the vault and with a turn of the handle he was able to push it open, eyes widening when he saw the towering stacks of gold and silver ; jewels, money, and more than his eyes could even take in. he leaned up against the door as he shook his head, laughter bouncing off the walls of the vault. he’d listened to his mother complain for years about the sayre fortune, how no one knew what had been done with it after elphadora’s death, and now he knew.  his grandmother had purposely kept it away from his parents and left it to him .. only to be granted access when he’d come of age.  another letter set atop a desk by the door explained just that and listed the address for a property that now belonged to HIM upon the event of his grandmother’s desk.
it was a CASTLE.                                                                   he owned a bloody CASTLE.
he decided to just take what he needed for the time being and tucked the key safely into his pocket, the papers for the house securely folded and stuffed in his bag before returning to the cart.  he’d leave the vault from his parents alone for now. after all, his grandmother had seen to it that her grandson would never go without .. even if her own son cast him away. she’d always known that he was different, that he’d never quite fit in with the rest of his family, and she’d seen always been his  C H A M P I O N ;  as a child, and now in death.  it was with a fond smile on his face that he apparated into claramae’s bedroom, intent on sharing news - both good AND bad with his girlfriend.  the room was shrouded in darkness and he nearly tripped as he appeared, squinting and casting a quick lumos charm to illuminate the room.  at first he’d assumed she was out somewhere and had been about to owl her when suddenly he spotted her curled up at the end of her bed, back against the footboard - on the floor - with her knees drawn to her chest.  with a muttered curse he crossed the distance between them in little to no time, kneeling down beside her and quickly pulling her into his arms. it didn’t take a genius to know she was  U P S E T  and while he wouldn’t press the witch for details until she was ready to talk he wanted to be sure she knew that he was there for her. no matter what.

A Haunting
Prompt: After being brutally murdered at the young age of twenty- one and stuck on Earth, Harry has been searching to find a way to heaven for almost a hundred years. One day, a family and their autistic, seventeen year old, daughter, Heaven, moves into his home. Maybe this was the Heaven he was searching for all along.
DO NOT STEAL MY IDEAS! Enjoy! x
_____________
Heaven sighs heavily, biting her nails lightly, as she enters the musty smelling, older, abandoned home that her parents had suddenly decided one day to move into on a whim. The larger scale home still held beauty after so many years and was somehow still in almost pristine condition, sitting in the middle of the woods on the far side of their little town.
One morning, Heaven’s parents went for a jog and stumbled upon the old mansion, immediately falling in love with it. Becoming practically obsessed, they found a realtor and bought the house in just a few days, not even speaking a word to Heaven until they burst into her room and told her to pack.
Heaven panicked, of course, as she hated change. When she was young, she was diagnosed with autism and her parents made sure she was always happy and comfortable. They lived in the same house, used the same tutors, drove the same car, and ate the same foods to insure that she didn’t have a tantrum. So this was a major change, but eventually, with much coaxing, they got her to pack and get in the car.
When they drove up the tree lined driveway and the Victorian era house came into view, Heaven immediately understood why her parents were so in love. It was absolutely breathtaking and something about it made her want to never leave. Maybe this change will be good.
“Heaven, don’t bite your nails, darling. Go choose your room!” Her mother calls as she places a box down in the kitchen, snapping Heaven out of her thoughts.
“Okay, mama! Okay… Okay, mama,” She clutches her small teddy bear that she’s had since she was a kid to her chest as she takes a step up the rickety stairs. The steps groan under the forgotten weight of someone walking up them as she makes her way up them slowly.
As she steps foot onto the second floor, she freezes as she hears quiet whispering coming from down the dark hallway. “Mama?” She calls quietly, clutching her teddy tighter as she takes a step towards the voices. The hairs on the back of her neck involuntarily stand up as she suddenly feels the intense feeling of being watched after she speaks.
As soon as she takes another step, the voice and the feelings halt and everything seems normal again. Hearing foot steps, Heaven looks down and sees her mother and father walking back outside to the moving truck. Turning towards the dark hallway again, Heaven’s eyebrows furrow.
“Not mama. That’s not mama,” she mumbles as she makes her way down the hall, not caring about it too much. She peers into each room, shaking her head each time she didn’t like them.
Coming to the end of the hall, Heaven begins to frown as she doesn’t find a bedroom she likes. Her eyes tear up in frustration as she lets out a tiny whimper.
As she gives up and begins to walk down the hall, the whispers begin again, louder than before. Heaven gasps, turning towards the voices and before her eyes, a door she hadn’t seen creaks open slowly.
Curiously growing in her, she wipes her tears and slowly walks towards the open door. Peeking into the room, she lets out a happy squeal as she sees the dark red walls, her favorite color. The bed was large, the bed spread a muted red from all the dust accumulated on it. In the corner, a small nook was made by the window so someone could sit and read. The ceilings were high and in the middle hung a giant chandelier that glittered and sparkled in the sunlight.
“Mine,” she states to herself mesmerized and in a trance as the whispers slowly die down.
“Yes,” a deep, raspy voice behind her croons as she feels a hand on the bottom of her spine. The touch was calming and warm, sending slight sparks up her spine as she didn’t flinch away like she normally did to touch.
“Yes,” she mimics as she walks in and the door slowly creaks shut behind her.
____________
“So, I was doing some research,” Heaven’s mother starts as they quietly eat dinner in their new dining room. Heaven’s father hums in response as he gives the love of his life all his attention after he helps Heaven cut up some of her chicken and places her a small kiss on her forehead.
“It’s quite spooky actually. Apparently, the original owners were murdered here almost a hundred years ago,” she states fascinated as she takes a bite of her carrots and peas.
“Wow! That’s interesting. How sad. What happened? Do they know?” Her father speaks as Heaven pokes her chicken with her fork, in a daze as she stares fixated at the pattern on the plate.
“They say the killer snuck in in the middle of the night and stabbed them in their beds. The son tried to find help after he had been stabbed but he only made it to the hallway where he, sadly, passed. That’s why you can see blood stains on the floorboards upstairs. They are buried in the somewhere in the woods out back, I think. There was Anne, the mom, Desmond, the dad, Gemma, the daughter, and the son was named-”
“Harry,” Heaven suddenly states, making her parents turn to her in shock.
“H-How’d you know that, sweetheart?” Her mom asks softly, her mind reeling in the scary possibilities on how her daughter, who has no way to get on the Internet, knew the name of the dead boy who once lived here.
“He wrote it. Wrote it on my bed,” Heaven states what she had found earlier. Carved on the dark wood on the bed’s headboard was a name. A little worn from the years but still visible, Harry was written in neat handwriting and, captivated, Heaven spent hours tracing the name with her fingertips.
“Oh,” her mom laughs it off lightly, relieved that their new house wasn’t haunted by its past residents. “We will get your bed up there soon, sweetheart. Sorry you have to sleep in that old thing,” she says, making Heaven frown.
“I like it, mama. I like Harry’s bed,” Heaven protests, wanting the old, soft bed that made her feel safe and calm to stay in her room.
“Heaven, a boy was killed there. I don’t want you sleeping in it,” her father says, making her eyes water.
“I want it!” She slams her fork down and just as she feels a full blown tantrum coming on, she hears the whispers.
She freezes as it feels like arms wrap around her from behind and a warm chest against her back, calming her instantly. “Don’t cry, sweet Heaven. It’s okay,” she hears the raspy, deep voice, that sounded like smooth honey, coo in her ear.
“Okay, Harry. Okay… Okay, Harry,” she mumbles as she picks up her fork and takes a bite of her chicken, completely relaxed as her parents stare at her wide eyed.
“Good girl,” she hears just as the feeling of the arms disappear and the whispers cease, but leave behind the feeling of warmth and calm.
“Heaven, w-who are you talking to?” Her mother asks, fear gripping at her heart once again. She had never seen Heaven calm down that quickly before.
“Harry say don’t cry so Heaven no cry,” Heaven mumbles as she finishes her food. “Bed time,” she states, standing and placing a kiss on her stunned parents cheeks. They were so in shock that they didn’t even protest as she make her way up the stairs to her new bedroom.
___
Harry smiles as he watches the beautiful, innocent girl twirl around in her bedroom as she dances with her teddy bear. He stands propped against the wall, transparent so she can’t see him just yet. He didn’t want to scare her, but with her reactions to him earlier he didn’t think she’d be too petrified.
When Harry first watched the family move in, he was livid. This was his house, his family’s house. He left and died here. How dare they just move in and take over his home of over a hundred years.
But, when he heard it, all his anger dissipated. “Heaven! Come inside!” He heard as a gorgeous girl walked though the door, lightly biting her fingernails with a dazed look in her eyes.
Heaven. Something he had been searching for for decades was right in front of him. On his tombstone, the words Find your way to Heaven were written, but Heaven found its way to him. This wasn’t what he expected but, to him, this was even better. His own personal Heaven.
He had studied her so much since she arrived he could now remember where each of her freckles were with his eyes closed. They dotted her rosy cheeks and nose like the stars in the night sky. Her hair was like spun gold with a slight reddish tint, shining in the light from the window, captivating him and making him feel like he was now one of the richest men. Her lips were like two, perfect, pink rose petals and he fought the urge to kiss them relentlessly. Her ocean green-blue eyes sparkled with innocence and were normally stuck in a daze as she focuses on something sparkly. Earlier, she had spent almost an hour just staring at the chandelier in the middle of the ceiling as he stared at her.
That’s when he figured something was…special about his Heaven. Listening in to her parents conversation, he quickly found out she had autism. He didn’t care. He actually fell more in adoration of the small, special girl with the gleam in her eyes.
Hearing a small shriek and a crash, Harry is knocked out of his thoughts. He panics as he sees Heaven on the floor with tears in her eyes as she clutches her ankle. Not caring any longer about transparency, he rushes over to her and appears right next to her.
His hand reaches out, laying on top of hers that clutched her ankle. She gasps lightly and the whole world seems to slow down as she turns her head and their eyes connect.
“Harry,” she whispers as he smiles gently, reaching out for her hair and tucking a strand behind her ear.
“Careful, sweetheart. Can’t have my Heaven getting hurt right after I find her.”
Hope you enjoyed! Please tell me if you want the part two!!! x -E

Time: Friday 25 th
Place: Art Department
Between: Desmond & Anabelle
Plot: Desmond and Belle hang out a bit and Des learns of the issues between the people important to him
There's still so much to do, enough to have Belle's appointment book and day planner overflowing with notes and dates and assignments. She drops both books on one of the tables in the studio, along with a bag full of gigantic hardcover textbooks for the upcoming semester. Rubbing the back of her neck, she flops into a chair beside Desmond to look over his class schedule, more awkward with him now since the fight with Alex but trying her damndest not to take it out on her relationship with her favorite person in the department. "You should take the afternoon life modeling class on Wednesday, I'm doing the modeling again this semester. The professor brings in donuts and keeps a space heater on in winter so it doesn't feel like an ice box. Who do you have for animation?"
Desmond had been feeling pretty good so far. He had his whole thing with Alex and they talked, which was really needed now that he thought about it and now he could focus on other things. Like stuff going on with Belle. He knew she was busy, with the wedding, the kids, and everything else. He couldn't really imagine how she kept her head on straight but he commended her efforts. He scratched at his chin, "I dunno...I do so much life modeling already," he mumbled, mostly to himself as he thought of the countless sketchbooks with people in them. But really...taking it again couldn't hurt. "Uuuuh," he blinked searching his head for a name. "I lost it...but the paper's somewhere in my bag...I dunno."
"Yeah, but not with me. I'm the best." She grinned, tilting her head to beam at him cheekily, then looked back at the papers in front of them. "I'm thinking about the graphic design 101 thing and dropping journalism. Would be nice to be able to do my own marketing instead of subcontracting..." She leaned against him, head tilting to his shoulder. So many things had been changing in her life, it was nice to have something that felt normal. "Someone said they saw you hanging out with...whats his name. Rolan? What's up there?"
"I got you to pose covered in glitter though?" He laughed. He thought about it. "Sounds smart, best to cut out the middle man and all that jazz. Plus...if you really wanted you could always pick journalism back up some time later." He smiled at the relaxed feel of it all tilting his own head slightly to rest it on top of hers. "Hm...don't know any Rolans. Unless you meant Riley. Then nothing really," he grinned, "he's a new friend of mine." He took small moment. "You're okay? With all the planning and stuff? You don't need any help?" He kind of like a jerk for only asking this now, but he felt partially intrusive when she had so much going on. Even though he knew that wasn't really the case in the end.
"That was photography, not drawing," she pointed out, but smiled at the memory. It felt like she's ago now. "Eh, I was only in it for fun and to do the advice column. It ran its course." She tried to picture a Riley in her head, the image clicking with another notable redhead on the school's Instagram radar. He was cute, and available if she remembered right. "New friend with potential?" She nudged his side a little, hoping that the issue with Alex's public displays with another guy and everything that had happened since had finally put him off of the older man. "No, it's fine actually. Easier than I thought it would be, I just stuck some post it's in a magazine and gave them to my planner and Mitchell. All I have to do is show up and look pretty. You're coming, right? For sure?"
Desmond shrugged, he couldn't argue that. "Oh, so you're not gonna be offering up advice anymore? Those were always fun to read." Desmond couldn't help but to roll his eyes. "Potential for what," he asked in feigned ignorance. Though...he was still very much looking forward to his blowjob at some point. He let out a sigh of relief himself. "Whew, glad it's all so simple. I used to watch those wedding reality shows when I was younger. They always kinda looked like a nightmare. And of course I'm coming. Wouldn't miss it for the world."
Belle gave him a withering, if affectionate, look. "You know what. Are you seeing him? Or anyone really? Gotta know if you're bringing a date to the wedding," she tacked on as an excuse for her nosy prying. She stood up to stretch out her lower back and walk around the table, sitting on it instead and laying back so that she's looking at him upside down. She finally cut to the chase, even though it wasn't an easy conversation. "Are you still seeing Alex?"
"Oh is that all," he shook his head. "Well no I'm not seeing him... though I did end up blowing him." He mumbled that last part. "And I wasn't planning on bringing a date to the wedding. Except maybe Kuroko's if she's allowed." Desmond looked down at her, an eyebrow raising at her question. "Yeah..." He said slowly almost cautious. "I last spoke to him Tuesday...he's been gone for a bit."
Belle gasped out loud at the admission in false shock, but real delight. "He's cute, good on you." Unfortunately, that apparently didn't mean that things were off between him and the music professor. She couldn't hide the grimace. "Of course you can bring her. Can I ask why? He's not exactly claiming you in public, unless I missed something major. And it's been what, six months? Longer?" There was clear bias and distaste in her voice, she still hadn’t gotten over the argument, what she thought of as the last of several straws.
Desmond smirked, "He is cute." He nodded, glad this was pet friendly affair since he had gotten her a suit and everything. The grimace surprised him. "Almost a year I guess, and...he doesn't have to claim anything. We're not dating." He narrowed his eyes at her tone of voice, the shift in mood making him frown. "What's up you huh?"
"He's not dating anyone, as far as I know, but that doesn't mean he's not out with other people. It just seems...unfair. Especially considering his gripe with you telling me about the two of you. Since he was going to so much effort to keep you a secret but has no problem making out with someone at a public school event." Sighing, she sat up and turned on the table, crossing her legs to sit in front of him. "Not long ago he showed his true colors to me, that's all. He's and trust me when I say I don't use the word lightly, an asshole."
"He was," he took a deep breath. "He was doing that for my benefit. And that---" he waved a hand in relation to the incident, "was dealt with. We talked about it already. He can do whatever he wants and I can do whatever I want." He was being defensive, he knew, but they-- him and Alex-- had a really good and needed conversation. He thought they were in a better place than they had been when he left. "I know he's an asshole," he said, "what he do to you?"
Belle hesitated. Desmond was obviously still defending Alex, and she didn't feel like getting into another fight with someone she considered a friend - but she also wasn't about to lie and say that it was no big deal, when it was. "Aside from sticking his opinions where they didn't belong, being patronizing and implying that Mal and I don't have the kids' best interests at heart, he told me that I'm setting a bad example for them and that my upbringing was bad, apparently because I had a nanny. He made Mal think that the government would take the kids from us if we hired help, if I didn't quit school and work and stay home with them. Here." She leaned over to pull her phone from her bag, finding the conversation with Alex, and the screencaps she'd taken of what he'd told Mal, and handed it over to Desmond. "Full disclosure, I said some harsh things. I meant it."
Desmond read through the whole text conversation twice and then skimmed it a third time. This was...bad. Which, in and of itself, an understatement. But...from what he had read... Desmond sighed and handed her her phone back, sitting back in his seat. Well...he certainly could figure out what had Alex so upset that day. "Really? You'd try to end his career?"
Belle shrugged. "Maybe. It wouldn't be unwarranted, with his behavior lately. Unprofessional doesn't even begin to cover it." She paused, shaking her head. "They're my kids. I'm not going to let anyone put it into Mal's head that someone else will be taken away from him, that he's an unfit father. Marcus is old enough to understand things, if Alex said anything like that around him, implied that we don't care about him, it could kill the trust we're trying to build. So yes, if it came down to losing my family or Alex losing his job, I would."
Desmond didn't know anything about courts or child custody or anything else in that ball park. But Desmond didn't get that vibe from the conversations. At least not so much so that Alex was trying to destroy their family. "Job and career aren't the same thing."
"I could wreck his career or his job, and I would do either if he insulted my family again. I've done worse for less, and I tend to be...mellowed out these days, but I don't take it lightly when someone goes after the people I care about." She held her hand out for her phone. "We did nothing to him and he went on the attack because of how we're choosing to navigate a situation he can't know anything about, but that he decided he was the authority on because, what? He almost had a child? It's not a hypothetical for us, and it's none of his business to insult us over."
Desmond didn't see it as an attack. An unwarranted opinion that didn't go over too well, but not an outright attack. He didn't think throwing out the fact that he didn't have a kid was appropriate though. This whole situation was messy though. He ended up shrugging. "Okay." This certainly turned his mood sour. But he didn't want to start a big scale argument, even if he thought Bell was out of line and overreacting on some accounts. "Well, it's over now, yeah?"
Belle: Belle measured her words carefully - she didn't want to insult Desmond, he wasn't a part of all this. He was, in that he was seeing, if not dating, Alex still but he wasn't the one insulting her or her future husband. "I don't particularly want to be around him anymore. Ambivalence is about the best I can do." She paused, considering. "If he comes at my kids or my parenting style again, I won't be ambivalent anymore. Besides that, yes. I suppose it's over."
Desmond nodded slowly, "Well that's fine." He said; ambivalence wasn't so bad and he was sure with the way the conversation had gone Alex wouldn't be too keen on getting involved again. "So are you banning him from your wedding?"
Belle grimaced at that. The problem was that it wasn't just her wedding, and Mal didn't seem so inclined to burn bridges as she was. "If Mal wants him there, he can come." She shook her head. "I've ignored people with less to distract me. As long as he doesn't throw another fit of snapping at my guests, I don't care."
Desmond frowned at her second grimace of their conversation, but he supposed it was only fair. "I'm sure that won't be an issues," he said simply and then opted for a lighter conversation topic. "Do you wanna see Kuroko's in her suit?"
Belle brightened once the subject changed, though she was significantly less present, more guarded and defensive than before. "Of course! You got a little suit for her? That's amazing, I didn't know they made cat suits. Well...not that kind, anyway."
Desmond smiled, though he could feel the shift in her."Yup, they make all kinds of clothes for cats and the like. I wanted to get her a little flowers to go with it too, but I was worried she would try to eat it or something."
"Send my pictures, I'll make sure she gets some lilacs if they're safe for cats." She glanced at her watch, hopping off the table and gathering up her things. "I have a meeting with the new department head. You'll call me if you need anything?"
"Oooh...lilacs would be great." He nodded and sat back, picketing his phone and sighed. "Okay and yeah I will...you just do the same."

Knowing the Game (a Nate-centric, John/Nate fic post 4x09, 2.1k)
Nate gets an unexpected visitor late at night, when everyone has left. What's he to make of the strange man with the knowing gleam in his eye, who apparently knows more about his father's secrets than even Hank? And what will he do when he starts revealing more than just what his working relationship is? Will he even have the chance to do something?
(Link to ao3)
Nate scrubs a hand down his face, the computer screen’s glow hurting his eyes from staring at it so long. It’s been a rough couple of days, with him barely leaving before midnight most nights. If it wasn’t investigating his father’s secret dealings keeping him busy, Ava’s break-up frustration was being piled onto him and the rest of the Time Bureau as they pick up the slack left by the Legends. And the Legends’ fugitive status weighed unnecessarily on his back, too.
Not only were his friends hiding away somewhere in the time stream, being hunted down by the government – again – he couldn’t contact them without Ava finding out. His only contact for now is Zari, encrypting her e-mails so no one could trace them. He doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry with each message titled ‘Wide Birthing Hips’. Subject heading aside, they keep their conversations to Hank’s work, no matter how much Nate wants to ask for more. To hear their adventures, laugh at what references Ray made that day, and especially know that John his safe.
His exhaustion wouldn’t be half as bad if his cockney cock-eyed magician could pop up and ease his troubles. They’ve been spending so much time together as of late; he can’t remember how to function without him. Nate would swear that John’s magic extended past spells, as the lightest of brushes of their lips would drain any worry away.
Imagining their kissing leads to other things and Nate shifts in his seat at the sudden stiffening of his dick. He bites his lip, hand fluttering towards his crotch. It hovers as he debates whether or not he should touch. The office had been empty for quite some time, and no one was left but him. His fingers had only pressed against the zipper when a knock comes from his open door.
Seizing, Nate straightens in his seat and turns to his surprise guest. His gaze sets upon the familiar figure, his jaw clamping into a forced smile.
Roger Kant leans against the doorway, smirking down at him. “Am I interrupting something, Mr. Heywood?”
Blushing, Nate breaks from his gaze. “Catching up on some work is all, Mr. Kant –“
“Please,” he chuckles, stepping into the room, “Call me Roger. I much prefer that than ol’ Mr. Kant…” Roger takes the seat without question, swinging his leg over the other. Nate’s face falls slightly at Roger’s decision to stay, but he doesn’t let his displeasure show for long.
“Well then… you don’t have to address me as Mr. Heywood,” Nate says, “Makes me feel like my dad.”
Roger chuckles. “Don’t like being compared to your father?”
           “I wouldn’t say that…”
“He’s a good man, I mean to be honored so beautifully at that dinner the other night…”
Nate raises a brow. “You were there?”
“Of course,” Roger says, “Your father and I are working very closely on a project together… I’ve grown fond of him in our short time together. Him and… his family.” His lecherous smirk isn’t lost on Nate, and he shudders at how invasive Roger’s stare is. Like he’s being flayed piece by piece to expose his soul.
Shaking his head, Nate focuses on the first part of his sentence. “You two work together? I don’t remember my dad saying anything about what it is…”
“I would hope so,” Roger says, “classified and other long words the government uses… but I’m sure you already have a good idea about what it is we’re doing, don’t you?”
           Stammering, Nate says, “What – I don’t –“
“Please don’t lie to me Nate,” Roger says, “I saw you and your friend sneaking off with Hank’s phone. You two were very sneaky… I thought it was hilarious.”
“You did?” Nate asks, “Is that… why you’re visiting?”
“No, not really,” Roger sighs, leaning back in his seat, “Your father told me about how you were sniffing around, said he threw you off the scent though. I didn’t buy that. People like you never give up when they’ve got a whiff.”
Nate frowns, “And what kind of people are you talking about?”
“Heroes, Nate,” Roger tells him, “That’s what you and your friends aboard the Waverider call yourselves, right?”
He sighs, standing from his desk. “Listen, Mr. Kant, I don’t take kindly to being insulted in my office. If you came here to threaten me –“
“On the contrary Nate,” Roger interrupts, “I came here to tell you what we’re doing.”
Trailing off into silence, Nate blinks wide-eyes at Roger. “You… what?”
“I figure you deserve to know,” Roger continues, fingers steeped under his chin, “Your father thinks he’s protecting you, but nothing’s ever been gained from ignorance. Now, are you going to sit back down or will you continue stomping around like your britches are bigger than they are?”
Nate tears himself away, glancing down at his computer. One of Zari’s emails was open, detailing a few files she found that were triple-encrypted. It would be a long time before they’d access whatever information hid inside. A part of his conscious screamed at him in a funny accent not to trust the man before him, though. Saying that it’d be like getting into bed with the devil, convincing with its scotch-roughened syllables. But then he glances back at Roger, the picture of plaintive charity painted across his face in wide strokes.
He sits, sighing. “What are you and my dad doing?”
“Hank and I are working on a project by the name of HADES – do you know what that means?”
“Hades was the god of the underworld right?” Nate says, “And whatever you’re doing involves the creatures the Bureau’s been locking up here.”
“Smart,” Roger grins, “But it’s more than that. HADES is an acronym, meaning Helping American Deployment Eradicate and Save. It’s a joint program within the military to train these creatures to support our troops wherever they may be. Whether in covert operations or rescue missions, we plan to use the refugees in the only American way there is – to our own benefit! Nuclear power is an 80’s thing. Do you think North Korea can scare us when we have a more untapped power under our control: magic?”
“You’re using these creatures,” Nate says, “Kidnapping them, and –“
“They’re government property whether in your hands or ours,” Roger tells him, “And yes our methods at transport are a bit… barbaric, but only because there’s a language barrier. We’re working on developing a universal translator to help explain what we intend to do.”
Nate rubs at his jaw, thinking. “When you put it that way… it does,” he frowns, “it does sound good.”
“Doesn’t it? Your father bought it when I explained it that way to him.”
Startled, Nate’s head whips up to meet Roger’s shifting features. The kind innocence was shredded to reveal a shadowy expression. “Bought it, what’re you –“
“Talking about? Just our plans for Project HADES of course – you wanted the truth, didn’t you?” Roger chuckles, uncrossing his legs so as to switch their position. “Figured it’d be best to start out with what your daddy knows, then pull the rug out from under. Like a preview of what’s to come when I drag ol’ Hank’s wool away from his eyes.” At Nate’s glare, Roger rolls his eyes, “Oh come on, you think there wouldn’t be any more lies? Your daddy’s a high-ranking tool but there’re more powerful pieces at play here. He just likes to think he’s the king when really he’s another pawn.”
Nate snarls, “Then what does that make me, huh? An extra piece?”
“Well,” Roger leans in, “If you would care to, the king is nothing without his queen…?”
He shifts into steel. “I don’t think so.” Roger, looking bored, snaps his finger. Nate’s shell softens and melts back into his skin. Before he could gasp in shock, Nate realizes his body cannot move. Struggling in his chair, Nate knows he’s at mercy to the man before him. The man who has many more secrets than what he’s working on.
“I like ‘em feisty,” Roger says, standing. He saunters around the desk over towards Nate, kneeling down to nuzzle at his side. “Makes it all the more satisfying when you stake your claim… Although,” he toys with Nate’s tie – John’s tie – and smirks, “I understand your hesitation. Your loyalties lie elsewhere, in the bed of an old friend…” Roger presses a kiss to the nape of Nate’s neck. “John did know how to pick amazing bedfellows…”
Seething, Nate angrily darts his eyes towards Roger. “What do you know about John?”
“Many things,” Roger whispers into his ear, “The body I wear now has so many memories and marks of his and John’s time together.”
“What the… body you wear?” Nate’s heart creeps into his stomach to hide, gut churning it around like a mixer. “What are you? What did you do?”
Roger stands, sitting on the desk and peering down at him. “What I did was collect on a deal. Desmond here promised me his soul if I wouldn’t harm John Constantine’s body and… when I get locked away in a hell prison, so did he. The silly things you do for love.”
           “What?”
“Oh, did John never tell you?” Roger’s smirk grows so wide it nearly snaps his face in two. “You’d think a man would learn after watching someone he cares for get taken from him… But if it happens again well, shame on him that’s how the saying goes.”
“Who the hell do you think you are?”
Roger dips his head in close, face melting away into a bunch of tiny little holes that ooze and hiss. A few bugs crawl out and slither over to disappear inside another opening. Nate couldn’t flinch nor close his eyes, forced to stare into the abyss of horror. “Neron,” a high-pitched whine cackles, “King of Hell.”
In a snap, the human face returns. Nate’s mouth wavers, unsure of what to do. Roger watches him amusedly, “Well? Isn’t this the part where you tell me I’ll never get away with it? Good will prevail and all that other crap –“
“I – I… why are you telling me this?” Nate asks, “Why show your hand this early?”
“Like I said… smart.” Roger moves to his computer, scanning his conversations with Zari. “I wanted to figure out how far along you are with your investigations. It’d be a problem if you buffoons broke the case wide open… would ruin the surprise attack I have in store.”
“Surprise attack?” Nate asks, “That’s what HADES is for? You’re training your own army?”
“Been training them, but I never could get past the barriers of Hell – until you and your friends did the dirty work for me,” Roger says, clicking back to the e-mail Nate was on originally. “Once I have them all back under my control, all the souls of the world will be mine!”
“And you couldn’t just stick with working for the government?” Nate asks, “Seeing how you operate you could be President in no time.”
Roger chuckles. “You flatter me. The only reason I took this job was because I enjoy the irony that comes from people who hold all the cards realize they were playing the wrong game to begin with.”
“And now what?” Nate asks, “Kill me? You think that won’t alert people as to what’s going on?”
“I don’t want to hurt you,” Roger coos, dragging a cold hand down his face. Nate sneers at the touch. “I want you to join me –“
           “Like hell I will!”
“Maybe not now, but soon enough,” Roger sighs, stepping away, “Until then, I want you to forget everything you’ve seen and heard since I’ve been in the room.”
“As if you have the power to do that –“
Roger snaps, and Nate’s head lolls onto his chest. Effectively taken out, Roger moves over towards the door. Pausing in the doorway, he turns back and smirks at him. “You’ll be mine, Nate Heywood, just like everything else that was John’s. Until then… you might as well make the most of your time together. Make it even worse for when I steal you away.” Snapping his fingers, Roger disappears.
Nate comes to moments later, head ringing. He blinks back into consciousness, searching the room. “Huh,” he yawns, “Must’ve fell asleep at the office.” Stretching, he starts packing up for the night. Locking up, he reaches into his phone and dials a familiar number. John picks up on the third ring.
“Hey,” Nate says, “I miss you… I know, what with Ava and… it’s been forever since we spent the night. Do you think you could sneak away for a little… really? Okay, I’m heading home now, I’ll meet you there in tweny…”
