peter chauncey’s VIDEO OF THE WEEK! “Numbers for Days” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sozmt1q3kn8 With a video riffing heavily on Dr. Who and “The Matrix,” peter writes, “There are so many ways to look at or analyze any given song. My song ‘Numbers for Days’ could be considered through all sorts of lenses or filters, through combinations of political, religious, environmental, cultural, or social experiences that are bound to change each of us over time.” On a cosmic jukebox this would play between Talking Heads and David Bowie’s electronica.

electronic drums/special effects - Daniel Berkman
bass, background vocals, production, video-making - Johnny J. Blair  vocals, keyboards - peter chauncey

Kolektif – Neden Çalışalım ki? (2024)

Ahhhh! I'm so glad you liked it. This is the first fanfic I've ever truly made for an interactive story that I wanted to share with the author and it randomly got inspired while I was listening to, to give an idea of the feel I was going for with each part.
For the parts about Arthur:
Art of War - We The Kings, Deep Water - American Authors, Dust & Gold - Arrows To Athens, Daylight - David Kushner, The Script - Flares
For the parts about Mordred:
P!nk - Perfect, Forest Fire - Brighton, Tragedy + Time - Rise Against
For the whole thing:
Looking Too Closely - Fink, Broken - Lifehouse, My Side Of The Story - Hodges, Down to the Second - Zach Berkman, Godspeed - Alter Bridge,
Aw, I'm so glad you decided to share it because it was lovely to read. Also Forest Fire is in my TKH playlist too, for Arthur&Mordred (it gives me very very sad vibes, delicious)

Sweet Nothing
A/N: Since Barry is dropping two episodes in a couple of days, I decided to post 2 fics. Next fic drops Monday!
Summary: You cheer Barry up after a bad day.
Pairing: Barry Berkman x hitman!wife reader
Tumblr media
Barry’s had an awful day. In the morning, Barry met with Fuches and they ended up getting into a big argument over a job for the Chechens that Fuches was trying to put together. Barry didn’t want to work with the Chechens but Fuches wouldn’t hear any of it. Barry walked away angry.
After seeing Fuches, Barry went to acting class. He didn’t give a good performance and Mr. Cousineau called him out in front of everyone. Gene said that Barry was not emotionally present in the scene and compared him to a giant oaf. As soon as acting class let out, Barry raced to get home. He just wants the day to be over.
When Barry walks through the front door, he can’t see you but he can hear you. You’re in the kitchen humming. It sounds like the chorus to Starman.
Your husband takes a deep breath and his entire body relaxes. Barry can feel the weight of the day lift off him. He’s home now. Home with you.
Barry goes to the kitchen and finds you cooking at the stove. You hear Barry come in and immediately stop humming. You greet him with a big smile.
“Hey hon!”
Barry walks up to you and rests his hands on your waistline. He holds you close as you continue cooking.
“Hey. What are you making? It smells amazing,” he says softly.
“Thanks babe! I was feeling ambitious so I decided to try a new recipe for dinner,” you explain.
You turn to face Barry. Your husband looks tired. You can tell that he didn’t have a good day. You wrap your arms around his neck.
“It was a day, huh?” you ask sympathetically.
“It was a day,” Barry sighs.
You frown with empathy and pull Barry closer to you. He rests his forehead on yours. The two of you share a quiet moment of comfortable silence before it gets interrupted by the sound of the stove.
You quickly kiss your husband’s cheek and then turn your attention back to cooking.
“Dinner won’t be ready for another half an hour. You have some time to unwind,” you tell him.
Barry gives you an appreciative look. All he wants to do is jump into the shower and wash this shitty day off. He kisses your forehead and walks toward the door. Barry is about to leave the kitchen, but he stops himself and turns to you.
“Earlier when I came in… were you humming David Bowie?”
Your face lights up.
“Yeah. Well spotted, babe!” you laugh.
Barry nods and walks away. As he heads down the hallway, he hears you start humming Starman again. You’re picking up right where you left off. Barry smiles to himself. It’s the first time he’s smiled all day.

Just for fun, here’s a bracket of ships that I like that aren’t terribly popular. Some of them suffer from being a little to the left of much more popular ships. Some of them are just from media that no one cares about.
Anyway, here’s the bracket:

In Brazil, Twitter users fear effect of Musk’s rule
Experts are concerned about the billionaire’s monetisation and moderation plans and a lack of social media regulation.
Tumblr media
It was Easter, and Lola Aronovich, a Brazilian literature professor, was enjoying a break at a beach with no internet access, totally unaware of the defamation campaign being orchestrated against her on Twitter.
That day in April 2015, the son of Geraldo Alckmin, the former São Paulo governor and currently Brazil’s vice-president-elect, tragically died in a helicopter crash. Aronovich saw the events unfold on TV and headed home three days later – only to find thousands of vitriolic posts directed at her on Twitter for something she hadn’t done.
“A fake tweet was created where I was lamenting that Alckmin wasn’t in the crash. [The attackers] said I had deleted the tweet soon after posting it. The post went viral, and I got threatened by politicians, academics, and users with large follower bases,” Aronovich, who teaches at Federal University of Ceara, told Al Jazeera.
“I said I never wrote that. A far-right Twitter user noticed the image was false, but the damage was done. Some of the people [who reposted the fake tweet] deleted their posts, but no one ever apologised to me,” she said.
This was one of the many occasions where Aronovich, who uses Twitter to discuss feminism and human rights issues, has been bullied and abused on the social media platform.
“Someone harassed me incessantly for three years, and I get constantly attacked. I have blocked tens of thousands of users in the last decade,” said the professor, who has a base of just under 200,000 followers on Twitter.
Things do not bode well for activists like Aronovich with the changes to the platform under its new owner Elon Musk, namely paid verification product Twitter Blue.
“I am getting anonymous comments on my blog saying they cannot wait until [Twitter Blue] is available in Brazil. They are planning to create a verified profile in my name to defame me as they please,” Aronovich said.
The professor is concerned about Musk’s plans to enforce his vision as a “free speech absolutist”, while also generating profit.
“This is extremely dangerous, given that [Musk’s] supporters are usually those who harass others online with campaigns that may extrapolate into the real world,” Aronovich said. “[Twitter Blue] is effectively a license to attack.”
There are broader concerns over how the new management will affect the democratic debate on the platform. With 19 million users, Twitter is the ninth largest social network in Brazil, which pales in comparison with WhatsApp, the country’s most popular social app with 165 million users according to We Are Social and Hootsuite data.
Despite its relatively small user base, the microblogging site plays a vital role in shaping public opinion online, according to David Nemer, a professor at the University of Virginia and associate researcher at Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University.

peter chauncey’s SONG OF THE WEEK: “Numbers for Days” https://peterchauncey1.bandcamp.com/track/numbers-for-days
…peter writes, “There are so many ways to look at or analyze any given song. My song ‘Numbers for Days’ could be considered through all sorts of lenses or filters, through combinations of political, religious, environmental, cultural, or social experiences that are bound to change each of us over time.” On a cosmic jukebox this would play between Talking Heads and David Bowie’s electronica.
electronic drums/special effects - Daniel Berkman
bass, background vocals, production - Johnny J. Blair  vocals, keyboards - peter chauncey
mixing, mastering – Will Mandell

HANGING OUT AT SMALL’S LIVE #26, 20-24 NOVEMBER 2022
MIKE LEDONNE with Vincent Herring, Mike Migliore, and Joe Farnsworth, SMALL’S, 4 NOVEMBER 2022, 2nd set
ARI HOENIG with Gadi Lehavi and Ben Tiberio, SMALL’S, 21 NOVEMBER 2022, 1st set, live
DAVID BERKMAN with John Hebert and Billy Mintz, MEZZROW’S 4 NOVEMBER 2022, 1st set
JEB PATTON with Clovis Nicholas and Billy Drummond, MEZZROW’S, 23 NOVEMBER 2022, 2nd set, live
STEVE ASH with Paul Gill and Joe Farnsworth, MEZZROW’S, 27 OCTOBER 2022
There are some fine bass players here, including newcomer Clovis Nicholas from Paris and John Hebert from Fred Hersch’s trio, but I picked pianists to get to know better on the basis of the drummers. Indeed, I picked the STEVE ASH date over a more recent one to see Joe Farnsworth in a trio setting after starting this run with MIKE LEDONNE’s quartet with his own vigorous playing matched by Vincent Herring and Farnsworth kicking it too.
But I try not to miss ARI HOENIG (and was glad to see him back with his usual trio); Billy Mintz with Hebert was an interesting combination; and Billy Drummond too brings something special to his gigs. And, yes, two Joe Farnsworth gigs.
MIKE LEDONNE is solid but not subtle which is probably why I don’t gravitate toward him. Herring is even more like that, particularly as a leader, but LeDonne can and did give him focus. The opener sure sounded like McCoy Tyner, because it was his The Greeting, which suited LeDonne who played hard but with limited Tynerisms, but Herring really didn’t do the modal stuff. But he/they delivered a fine, bright, and swinging set that included Cedar Walton’s Jacob’s Ladder and can’t name that tune Great American Song Book ballad, a closer that wasn’t The Theme but was similar, and a couple of the leader’s tunes. Farnsworth’s motto is Time To Swing and that they did.
ARI HOENIG flat out fascinates me. He roars appropriately but plays in trios. Appropriately with Jean-Michel Pilc and Francois Moutin is full throttle, but he leads a trio most often with the subtly evolving Gadi Lehavi who says a lot quietly and Ben Tiberio who nicely bridges the pianist and his leader, syncing up alternately or just going between them. I can’t help but watch Hoenig as he keeps complex and shifting time while commenting melodically. They opened wistfully with a Tea for Two that opened up and did Cherokee as they do—slowly and patiently. Hoenig’s tunes are appealing and sensitive and Lehavi did wonderful non-flashy things with them. At first I thought he didn’t have enough power for Hoenig when I first heard him hard on the heels of seeing Pilc. But I learned better what Hoenig was really doing and started to hear Lehavi.
I have caught DAVID BERKMAN enough to remember that he’s interesting and worthwhile. But, again, I wanted to hear how Fred Hersch’s bass player meshed with Alan Broadbent’s Zen-like drummer. Mintz was not nearly as understated in this context, not that Hebert was any more interesting and independent than his usual partner Harvie S. Interesting and independent, just differently/busier, which makes sense as Berkman’s book—a GASB tune to open and a too tame Pannonica late in the set to go with originals (a tune for Tom Harrell and an evocation of Ornette) isn’t Broadbent’s. That’s a high standard to live up to and, though he didn’t, I enjoyed the set.
JEB PATTON was just there in real time at a convenient time, so I took it. And Billy Drummond, again, made it an easy choice. HIs cymbal work is subtle and striking adding to the tunes. What an interesting set of deep cut jazz compositions from Gigi Grice, Percy Heath, Horace Silver, and Dizzy Gillespie along with a European Tradition inflected original Prelude and an appropriately treble register Crystalline. Clovis Nicholas is new in town and will be worth looking for.
STEVE ASH has a full sound like LeDonne and a batch of familiar but not overly so standards. You and The Night and The Music opened things well and Sweet and Lovely that showed off the leader’s power and Farnsworth’s creativity (if he probably went on a bit long). There was Ellington’s I’m Just A Lucky So and So, Bud Powell’s Una Nocha con Francis (a good mix for Ash’s flash and Farnsworth’s complexity), and Ray Bryant’s Reflection. He also did, as he did on his album and Cecile McLorin Salvant did on the Thursday night Jazz St Louis stream last week, Burt Bacharach’s catchy Wives and Lovers. He didn’t convey Hal David’s lyrics, though McLorin Salvant did, that are appalling 60 years later. Paul Gill who appears to be Ash’s go to bassist did some really fine bowed soloing as did Clovis Nicholas the night before.
Pianos and drums—the starting point.
