New Power unlocked: Shapeshifting
A/N: I was remembering that Dan could shapeshift while writing on something else and then this idea took form... just shapeshifting into a cat was to boring for my taste tho... so Danny gets stuck in a little bit of a different from...
Today had to be one of the worst day's in Danny's life. First he forgot about the English test from Lancer and was pretty sure he bombed that one. Second the moment he stepped out a Ghost Alarm blared and Skulker appeared because he was finally going to get 'Danny's pelt' for his wall. Once he finally got him souped his parents and the GIW arrive at the scene and his mom was on blaster duty today.
Meaning after an already exhausting fight he spent the rest of the day dodging them and then finally at the end of the day when he thought he could maybe get some rest for the rest of the weekend, freaking Walker had to appear with some nonsense of him having broken some other law he definitely did not know about.
And what did Walker do? Fucking drag him into the Ghost Zone when he was about to sent Skulker there and chase him around. He didn't even had the time to alert Jazz or his friends about this.
So now he was flying high speed through the Infinite Realms chased by a pissed Skulker who is competing with a pissed Walker, in who can catch the Phantom. Of all the rogues he had he had never thought that these two would team up in some weird competition like way.
Fuck that was his shoulder!
Danny swirled as he clutched his shoulder that was oozing ectoplasm from a wound. Maybe he shouldn't get distracted, but in his defence he was fucking death tired after the day he had. Death get it? He chuckled to himself. If he could just somehow hide from them to catch his breath it would already be great.
Maybe he would get some nice and useful last minute power again to help is situation?
Another blast barely missed him and Danny took a sharp turn around a floating rock. Maybe on second thought better not. Who knows what kind of power he would get stuck with then, worst case it could be something like shapeshifting, which probably would be sort of usefull and help him hide. Maybe.
As luck would have it. Thinking like that Danny pretty much jinxed himself.
Because one second he was in his ghost form dodging ecto-blasts from two of his rogues, the next second he was a snake nearly not getting the curve, then a a bird and smacked ainst a rock because how the fuck do you adjust form having limbs to not having limbs to having wings.
A second later he was a cat and pushed himself of the rock to restart flying away only to end up as a crab somehow aimlessly floating unsure how the fuck he was supposed to move now.
Thanks to the constant size changes Walker and Skulker were missing most of their shots at him. Also Walker was yelling something about unauthorized shapeshifting. Like what the hell man? Danny groaned which sounded like a meow as he smacked into another floating rock his form once again changing.
Panic sized him as a blast hit a little too close, in a panic he pushed himself with newly gained limbs that definitely were paws away from the rock, was he in some feline form again? Either way it didn't matter he needed to get away.
He turned his head for just a moment to see how far away his two rogues were, but that only turned out to be a mistake as Danny did not notice the natural portal opening in front of him.
The next thing he knew was normal gravity taking awakes and his body loudly crashing into metal as clattering filled his ears. In that moment everything hurt and Danny curled up the natural portal closing just as quickly again as it closed. He felt disoriented and he could feel the exhaustion trying to stake claim over his body.
Yet his eyes snapped open on high alert and he sprung to his feet(?). Something was not right.
Wait he was on all four. Danny turned his head to get a lock on himself. He hissed as that caused some pain to jolt but he stubbornly looked down at his arms being… claws… his legs… paws…
What in the name of the Ancients of Time….
He tried to glance over his shoulder but only got a glimpse of what he presumed were crow wings. Okay so his new power appears to have become very wonky too. He had claws, paws and wings. Now he was only missing to check if he had a snake tail and what his head looked like. Then he would probably look like some mythical creation Lancer had told them about when they worked through some old classic texts in school.
That aside he looked around and realized he had no idea where he was, the trash cans he had crashed into did look a whole lot bigger than the ones at home.
"Oh you poor thing." A young sounding voice suddenly spoke and his head snapped towards it. "Don't be scared. I will not harm you."
Wide eyed he stared as he came face to face with a kid that was wearing a Domino Mask? What? And why was he so big, no better question, why was he so tiny?! How tall was he right now?!
"Robin, don't fucking run away just because… what the fuck is that?"
Another voice appeared and Danny stared wide eyed at the even bigger guy with a red helmet. Wobbly he backed away but a pain in his back made him hiss. His panic was probably turning into shock right now because all he could do was hiss more as he suddenly got picked up by the kid, who was handling him surprisingly carefully.
"This appears to be a small chimera-like animal that obviously needs our help. It is injured."

Do you have any sterek fics that closely follow canon? Preferably in season 2 and 3 but other seasons work too. Thanks in advance💖
I think so. As close as Sterek fics can be.

Stiles on the lacrosse field practicing for the first big game of the season. With all the good players, i.e. Jackson and Isaac, gone he has somehow made it to first line. And to say he’s nervous is understatement. So he’s practicing his ass off.
He’s been out on the field for an hour when he sees Derek trying to sneaky and hide behind a tree. Stiles lets him hide behind that tree for a few minutes but it’s unnerving feeling eyes on you but not seeing the person the eyes belong too. So he ends up saying, “Stop being such a creeper, Derek. Come help me practice.”
“I’m not a creeper.” Derek says, walking across the field to where Stiles is standing a few feet away from the goal.

We’re all shapeshifters. It happens rarely, and it happens for a reason. Sometimes the shape you take reflects the person that you are. – Derek Hale, Season 2 Episode 5
“I didn’t shoot him if that’s what you’re worried about,” said Stiles’ dad. Then he smiled wryly. “Though I did push him against the wall and threaten to strangle him with my bare hands.”
Stiles gaped at his dad, because Derek…was Derek. And the Stilinski men weren’t exactly buff. They were built more slender and agile, though Stiles was still waiting for the agile part to kick in.

“It depends entirely on how you look at it, I guess,” Stiles shrugs. “On the one hand, instant healing and the apparently inherited ability to pull off leather at all times. On the other, serious attitude problems and a suspicious disappearance of eyebrows.”
“Even Derek’s?” Danny snorts, “that’s a lot of eyebrow to lose.”
“I know,” Stiles agrees. “You should see, it’s so weird. Every time I want to ask him where they go, except he’d totally eat my face off.”

The Hale House has been rebuilt for the past five years and for all five of those years, it’s been a sanctuary for supernaturals that needed a place to stay, a halfway point, a place to recuperate, or a place to be safe from whatever was on their tail. Word traveled quickly in the small world of the supernatural and now they rarely had to seek out people who needed help. Most came to them.

“Even before the pack joined together, Scott was trying to protect you. And he still is trying to protect you, even if it means leaving you out of all this.”
Stiles does roll his eyes at that. “Yeah, but it didn’t work did it. I was still involved, and so was my Dad. We were nearly killed by Matt, and then Gerard.”
“My point is, people change. Relationships aren’t always perfect. Scott's tried to kill me before."
Stiles raises an eyebrow. "So, you’re saying that someone trying to kill you is just a small flaw in a relationship?"
“We’re werewolves.” Derek answers with a shrug, as if that was a perfectly good explanation.
Doors Unlocked and Open by Imnotahero
(20/20 I 140,060 I Teen)
They say that when one door closes another one opens. That might be true elsewhere, but not in Beacon Hills. Danger lurks behind every door, and once they're ajar they stay like that - unlocked and open. Which is not good. Not at all. Stiles find things bad enough with Dread Doctors, Theo and his pack of Resurrected Chimeras, Lydia stuck in Eichen House and the foundation of his friendship with Scott unraveling fast. The surprising return of Derek might just be the counterbalance he needs. Especially if they could just close some of these damned doors...

The Crossover Timelines 2: Electric Boogaloo
So as with anything, we have Alternate Timelines!
To be fair, a chunk of these Timelines are Canon to their own series. I will be discussing two types of Alternate Timelines. The ‘Bad End Timelines’, and the 'Powerswap Timeline’.
First, the Bad End Timelines.
As you could guess, this is basically Timelines where the Heroes…. well.
Sometimes they fail completely. Sometimes they go crazy and become villains. Sometimes, they are still 'Heroes’, but lose themselves and aren’t quite 'Heroic’.
There are several 'Bad End Timelines’. Not every series gets them, but there’s at least one. Usually this is somewhat Canon through 'characters Time Travel to the Bad Timeline but fix it so it doesn’t happen’.
I’ll spare you the generic 'this is when they fail’ Timeline, as you can always assume there’s a Timeline where someone fails or gets killed or whatever. I want to talk more on the…. more interesting Bad Ends.
Miraculous Ladybug: Princess Justice and Chat Blanc
Though only the main two are mentioned, all of Team Miraculous goes darkside. I am unsure if they collectively snap, or if they’re all Akumatized and Hawkmoth lost control. Either way, they’re feral as hell.
Danny Phantom: Dan.
Oh hey! This is Canon! Ish. I did rewrite this episode slightly. Summary: Danny’s friends and family die in an explosion, and Vlad has custody. To deal with his Ghost Half’s 'Obsessional Breakdown’, they try to take out the Ghost Half, intending it to be temporary. Phantom overpowers them, steals Vlad’s Ghost Half, the halves fuse, and kill their remaining Human halves before going on a destructive rampage.
Ben 10: Ben 10,000
Another somewhat Canon but I rewrote it one! Ben does not handle trauma well, and slowly loses his support system. He was already not doing well but by 20, he loses his wife and fully goes into a breakdown spiral becoming more and more direct, paranoid, obsessive, etc. for the next decade. This is one of the 'better’ Bad End Timelines, as Ben is still technically a Hero. Just one who handles situations my taking over things, even out of his jurisdiction, forcing other Heroes into retirement, and curbstomping villains in a murder-y way.
The Secret Saturdays: There is no Zak, only Kur.
One fun thing about reincarnation is unlocking those previous memories. But the danger is if the old life takes over the new one. And that’s what happens. Kur’s memory is unlocked, and takes over Zak, becoming the Kind of Cryptids and taking over with his own armies.
Samurai Jack: The entire goddamn series.
Literally though. The whole plot of the series is that Jack is tossed into a Timeline where Aku won. The Crossover takes place in the Timeline created once Jack made his way back and defeated Aku.
Code Lyoko: XANA Warriors
All of the Lyoko Warriors become infected/brainwashed by XANA
Ultimate Bad End:
Everyone fails, all Bad Ends happen at once.
-
Now that we’re done with the Bad End Timelines, let’s talk about the Powerswap Timeline!
A lot of these shows have ‘Powerswap or Roleswap’ Timelines. Either in Canon, with a ‘what if’ scenario or Magic making everyone’s abilities shuffle, or just the Fandom decides ‘Hey! What if.....”
So I decided that a handful of Powerswap AUs happen all in the same Timeline. For reasons.
Again, not all of them get one (or at least I haven’t thought of one!), but we’re going over what I have so far.
Miraculous Ladybug: Lady Luck
While I could have just made this Lady Noire and Mr. Bug...... Lady Luck is more fun and changes the dynamic a lot more. Also I’m more invested in it lmao.
Anyway, LL is a Timeline where Chloé is given the Ladybug Miraculous instead of Marinette. While Chat, Hawkmoth, Mayura and Bunnyx are unchanged, Chloé makes different choices in the rest of the Miraculous that are handed out.
Danny Phantom: Phantom Phamily
During Jack and Maddie’s initial attempt to turn on the Ghost Portal to show Danny and Jazz, they’re a bit more successful. Sort of.
The Portal goes a bit fucky before turning on, blasting all four Fentons and creating four Halfas at once. The whole family has to get used to weird powers and biology.
MLP: In Another World
When Nightmare Moon returns, and Twilight tries to stand up to her, the Unicorn is kidnapped. Spike, trying desperately to save his big sister, accidentally puts together a Team of a bunch of kids his own age to go on a dangerous quest to recover the Elements of Harmony.
Spike is the Element of Magic. Applebloom the Element of Loyalty. Sweetie Belle the Element of Honesty. Scootaloo the Element of Kindness. Pipsqueak the Element of Generosity. And Diamond Tiara as Element of Laughter.
Ben 10: Gwen 10
Oh this was mildly Canon! A Timeline where Gwen finds the Omnitrix first, and it attaches itself to her. She gets to be a Shapeshifting Alien Hero. Meanwhile, Ben ends up a badass Witch.
Lilo and Stitch: Lilo and Angel
Stitch and Angel swap roles. For whatever reason, Angel is out when Jumba is arrested, and Stitch is in the pods with the rest of the Experiments. Angel is captured too, and either injured or given something to neutralize her voice. She escapes and ends up in Hawai’i, then adopted by Lilo and Nani just like Stitch did in Canon. Stuck there with her voice unable to work, she eventually gets the full Found Family treatment.
Later, during the ‘Series’, we get ‘Experiment 626′ activated. Unsure how this version of Stitch will fit in yet but I’ll come back to it.

I don't talk about my inFAMOUS hyperfixation enough, so here's some stuff.
Dark Danny and Kessler are basically polar opposites of each other as far as Evil Future Me villains go.
Kessler: I fucked up, destroyed the world, and lost everyone I ever cared about. I need to go back in time and make sure that doesn't happen.
Dark Danny: I fucked up, destroyed the world, and lost everyone I cared about. I better go back in time and make sure that does happen.
It gets me wondering... what if Dark Danny was The Beast that Kessler wanted Cole to destroy?
Let me introduce the inFAMOUS Phantom AU.
The year is 20xx in the not so distance future. Danny Phantom finally dropped his heroic charade and embraced his ghostly nature, going on a rampage from Wisconsin to Amity Park, decimating all he sees. The Guys In White only manage to capture and contain him using their newly aquired Conduit unites. Conduits are humans who have the Conduit gene, a genetic failsafe that, when activated, could give the bearer extraordinary powers. The Conduit gene was only able to be activated recently thanks to the advancements pushed by their head scientist, Cole MacGraph.
Cole is put in charge of containing Phantom. His technology is several years ahead of the rest of the world, after all, and it's jis discoveries that unlocked the secrets of the Conduit gene and allowed Phantom to be captured to begin with.
However, Phantom is incrediblybclever and quickly thinks up a plan to escape. Taking the form of his younger, human self, Danny Fenton, Phantom tells him of his origins. Of the ghost portal that turned him half ghost, of the grand heroic adventures he had.... and of how his parents kept trying to kill him, despite his heroic deeds. Phantom claims that his ghost half and his human half have separate personalities, and that his ghost half came to despise the human race for their hatred of him.
"Please... I just want to go home. I miss my friends... I miss my mom... Wait, my parents... the Fenton Ghost Catcher! You can separate my two halves! That way my ghost half will dissolve when separated from his host!"
This is all an elaborate lie, painstakingly sprinkled with enough truth to be believable. Daniel Fenton is dead. All that happens when the Ghost Catcher is used is that the ghost (Phantom) is expunged from his non-ghost containment chamber. Phantom uses the opportunity to possess Cole with an invisible duplicate while the Conduit team recontain him. He then uses Cole's notes and free access to the facility to carefully plan his escape, whilst assassinating the Conduit team to ensure they don't stand in his way. He also kills Cole's family, both to keep them from questioning his odd behavior and to give his own strange behavior an excuse. Of course he's getting strangely close to the Conduit team, he's grieving and needs companionship.
Fortunately, Phantom didn't plan for Cole having friends outside the GIW. When Zeke Dunbar strangely stops receiving Cole's calls, he goes undercover to investigate. Putting together what happened from Cole's notes on Phantom, Zeke frees Cole with the Fenton Ghost Catcher in front of what remains of the Conduit team. Cole and Zeke escape as Phantom slaughters what remains of the Conduit team, as well as the rest of the GIW.
Zeke urges Cole to help fight off Phantom, but Cole instead becomes obsessed with resurrecting his family. He ignores Zeke's attempts to reason with him, runs away again every time Phantom shows up wherever he's hiding. Until it's to late. To late to fight back. To late to do anything. As far as Cole knows, he's the last man on Earth when Phantom sends Zeke's battered body flying through his door.
Phantom recognizes him and laughs, taunting him over the sob story he had about his family. "The best part is that it's all true, to a degree. I didn't even have to lie to trick you."
But, as soon as Dan tries to blast him, Cole is saved by two words.
"Time Out."
Clockwork appears and gives Cole a Time Medallion, before deciding to strike a deal with him. He offers Cole the chance to go 20 years back in time in order to prevent this future. Cole accepts. Taking the name Kessler upom arriving in the past, Cole gets to work.
Firstly, Kessler rejoins the GIW under his new identity, quickly rising through the ranks with his forehand knowledge and scientific prestige. He pushes development of the Conduit project ahead by several decades, giving himself powers and creating a cult of personality around himself in the process. Anyone who opposes his hostile takeover is quietly disposed of and Cole MacGrath finds himself expelled from college on mysterious grounds, never getting a chance to join the GIW.
Kessler creates a weapon called the Ray Sphere, a device designed to explode and kill any non-Conduit caught in it's blast. The Conduits will have their powers supercharged by the bio-electricity absorbed from all non-Conduits killed in the explosion, artificial advancing their development.
Kessler manipulates Cole into detonating the Ray Sphere in Empire City, before using the GIW resources to launch a hostile take over the city to "control the damage", all whilst having the government create a cover story so that Phantom doesn't get involved. Cole is forced to adabt and become stronger to survive with all the odds stacked against him, exactly as Kessler intended, forging Cole into the hero that he himself was not. After Kessler kills Cole's girlfriend to keep him from getting distracted from his mission, he challenges his past self to a climactic final battle to prove he's become as strong as he needs to be.
Cole emerges victorious and Kessler uses his final breath to show Cole visions of the future. Of the massacre of mankind, of the death of his family, of the sob story that Phantom manipulated him with. Cole is sent reeling from the revelation that Kessler is his future self and it is now up to him to save the world. As a reminder of the task he must now uptake, Cole grabs the Time Medallion off Kessler's body, not knowing it's true significance.
But, of course, that is only one path thay the parade might take. There is an equally valid timeline where Cole takes the opposite lesson from all the hardship he endures. He learns not to be responsible, but to be strong. Not to be compassionate, but to be vengeful. Not to save lives, but to gain power. While in one world Cole becomes a FAMOUS hero, in another, he becomes an inFAMOUS villain.
Both Coles set course to Amity Park, with their best friend Zeke by their side. One hoping to save the world, the other hoping to destroy the competition. Good Cole takes the sneakier approach when challenging Phantom. He has Zeke create a distraction for the Fentons by claiming to be an investor interested in their research, while Cole sneaks downstairs. MacGrath trashes the ghost portal, alongside anything else that might be useful to Phantom in the fight against him, before carving "meet me in Central Park, Phantom" into the wall with lightning.
Evil Cole takes the more direct approach, instead blasting the Fenton building apart with a giant thunder bolt. What Cole wasn't prepared for was for the Fentons to survive and for their ghost weapons to be able to harm him, forcing him back long enough for Danny Fenton to transform into Danny Phantom.
Either way, Cole MacGrath comes face to face with a Danny Phantom who is varying degrees of pissed.
Their fight is suprisingly even and both end up bring good counters to the other. Cole's resistance to mind control is sufficiently enough that he can ward off Danny's possession, his Radar Sense counters invisibility thanks to homing in on Danny's bio-electricity, while his own projectile versatility is strong enough to match most of what Danny can throw at him and then some. Danny, meanwhile, has actual flight to counter Cole's gliding, shapeshifting and Intangibility to dodge attacks, and is a better close range fighter when compared to Cole's over reliance on range. Evil Cole also has in edge in that he's willing to leverage civilian lives to give himself an edge, either by using them as hostages or by outright draining their bio-electricity to heal himself. Either way, it's a long fight that sends the two flying and fighting across all of Amity Park.
It comes to an end when Sam and Tucker and the sidelines realize Cole's weakness to water, spraying him with a hose to incapacitate him long enough for Danny to get close. Zeke rushes in to help, as do Sam and Tucker, but Danny ends up grabbing Cole's time medallion, sending the five flying off to meet Clockwork.
When there, the five witness Danny's evil future firsthand, with even Evil Cole suprised by the raw power on display by Dark Danny. Clockwork appears and explains how he sent Kessler back in time to alter history and prevent this future, but that plan "failed" so now he's going to "kill" them. However, Cole is able to quickly deduce the importance of the medallions and throws one on him and Zeke. Evil Cole only gives more to Danny and Friends upon Zeke's insistence. The five run into the future, coming face to face with Dark Danny himself.
Dan recognizes Cole, Zeke, and Clockwork's medallions, commenting about how "even dead, MacGrath's a pain in my ass". Cole and Danny try to fight him, but neither can get any good hits in, and the five are forced to run away. Cole only manages to save Zeke at the last second by blasting his time medallion, causing him to do the same to the rest of the medallions to keep Dan from following them into the past.
Cole initially thinks that that's the end of it. Danny saw his future self and was just as horrifed as they were. He's scared straight and won't be a problem anymore. Evil Cole, meanwhile, immediately goes back to trying to kill Danny to eliminate the competition. Either way, Sam and Tucker interrupt and point out that Dark Danny could still come back. He has the time medallions and if he puts them back together, he could travel back in time to prevent his past from changing. Indeed, Dark Danny is trying to do just that, as he has enough Vlad in him to try putting the advanced tech back together.
Cole and Danny are forced to train together to defeat Dark Danny, giving Danny the opportunity to learn who Cole is and what his deal is. Especially seeing how destroyed all the Fenton tech, so teaming up is the only real option. This gives Cole the opportunity to test his mettle against Danny's villains, from stomping Technus by draining all his technology to working together to beat Vlad.
Within the span of a few months, Cole and Danny are stronger than ever... and they'll have to be, because Dark Danny has arrived. The Ultimate Enemy is here, and they're the only ones who can stop him.

Summary:  Danny Fenton has just escaped from a secret government testing facility and runs straight into Andrew Riter - a busybody librarian who seems to be obsessed with helping a stray black cat - said stray black cat happening to be Danny himself. The Government gets interested when they find out a seemingly ordinary human can shapeshift into different animals. Danny just wants to return to his family and try to find his lost memories, but he’s having a hard time doing so when he’s finding less and less reasons for leaving Andrew’s side. He couldn’t tell anyone his secret - not again - but… But why did he want to trust this man so badly? (Iambic Prose) (Shapeshifter Danny AU)
Warning: This story will have references to laboratory testing, mentions of vivisections, blood, wounds, character trauma, and things of a similar sort. Most mentions of such things will be vague, but there will be heavy mentions of it and warnings at the beginning of chapters when it gets explicit.

Chapter Three
::
"I suppose if I miss lunch with Randy he'll be even more worried. He'll probably even try to move back in with me, again." Remembering the hell that came from sharing an apartment with his overbearing and well-concerning brother last time, Andrew groaned and pushed himself to his feet before looking down to the bedraggled scrap of fur still curled up in his arms. "You'll remind me to stop by and get my meds filled, won't you?"
There was a sound between a meow and a purr, Andrew choking on a laugh as he threaded his fingers through the wet black fur. "I've fallen rather far already, so I might as well ask. Would you like to come to lunch with me? You'll have to meet my brother, but he usually pays for lunch and, if nothing else, it's free food that isn't alive and moving."
The cat in his arms seemed to study him for a long few moments before collapsing, rather dramatically, and near falling out of his arms. As soon as Andrew was sure he wasn't about to actually fall and hit the ground, he was choking on a laugh. "You're a dramatic little thing, aren't you?" He was going to take the loud, wild murr sound as an agreement. Besides, if that noise was supposed to be an argument, then it just proved his point about the dramatism. "Come on, then."
Shifting the cat into one arm, Andrew braced the umbrella over them with his other as he began walking through the streets. Memorial Day meant there was a fair amount of traffic running back and forth, but other than that there was absolutely no one out walking - not that Andrew could blame them. They were probably smart enough to check the weather forecast before going outside.
Jeez, it was bad enough that even with the umbrella they were still getting wet. He supposed a cheap little thing could only do so much against wind like this. Ugh. The last dying storms of May always seemed the worst. It was like winter was giving them one last 'present'. It- Well, Andrew could understand why others disliked winter as they did, that was for sure. Maybe-
A sharp meow jerked him out of his thoughts, Andrew looking down in bewilderment the exact second a gust of wind tore through town and ripped away his umbrella and left a nice gash on his palm from one of the prongs snagging him. Hissing at the pain, Andrew quickly curled around the now screeching cat, shifting and moving to get his coat open enough for the little thing to curl up against his, somewhat dry, chest.
"Hey, hey, we're alright. Just a bit of rain and wind." There was another loud screeching noise and Andrew was pretty sure he was being yelled at by a cat. How delightful a day, so far. "Alright, a bit more than just a bit, but it's really not that bad. You had better not be blaming your bad luck either, petit chaton." Andrew tapped at the little thing's nose, grinning at the snuffle. "I had bad luck long before I met you."
Making sure the kitten was reassured enough to curl up to him and settle down, Andrew squinted up through the downpour as he shielded his hurt hand as much as possible. While walking six blocks to the cafe he and Randy ate at was never a difficult thing to do, today it felt like nothing more or less than a biblical journey.
Any dry spots he had left on him were mercilessly soaked to where he felt like he was wading through the ocean. It was only the little black bundle of fur pressed against his chest that kept him from breaking down in the middle of the streets and screaming at God and hadn't he been punished enough-
"Andrew?!" The shout of his name was barely even heard, but Andrew didn't fight it as he was jerked inside an open door and- Oh.
"Bonjour, Amy. Doing well, I hope?" Their usual server, and long time friend, was looking at Andrew as if he had just crawled out of a sewer. He certainly felt it, so he couldn't blame her. "I know what you're thinking, but it really isn't bad-"
"You look like hell. You look like every religion's version of hell- You look like the hell that the religions who don't have hell would say hey, you look like hell." Waiting for Amy to breath, Andrew quickly jumped in.
"Honestly, it's not that bad. I just got caught in the rain when it really started hitting. See? Just a little wet it all!"
"Just a little- Is that blood on your hand? Randy!" Oh, no. "And hide that cat, you know the manager hates even seeing service animals in here." How the hell- "Cat tail."
"Yes, well, shut up." Tucking the kitten more out of sight, Andrew looked up and almost had heart failure as he met Randy's gaze. He had five seconds to regret his life before he was caught up in a hug tight enough that had him squeaking and had the cat giving a startled shriek of a noise. It did help in getting Randy to let go of him, though, so that was good.
"Okay, first question, what the hell was that?" 'First.' As his bundle of dirty fur poked his head out of the coat and hissed at Randy, Andrew gave a tired giggle. He did need sleep soon, didn't he?
"It's a long story." Startling at the dry towel that fell over his head, Andrew blinked to see Amy carrying a whole armful of fluffy white towels.
"Good. You can explain while we dry your stupid ass off. Honestly, walking around in this without an umbrella- And how did you mess your hand up?"
"Ah, yes, that. Well, it's an explanation as to where my umbrella went." Andrew ignored the glare as he held his hand out to Randy's probing fingers, not even able to drudge up the energy to roll his eyes when his brother had his hurt hand dried off, wiped clean, and wrapped in bandages in a heartbeat. Paranoid, he was.
"Winds that bad, huh," Randy snorted, using the towel to gently dry Andrew's hair before grabbing another one, distracting the cat with a bit of clicking and hand movement, and then snatching him up into the towel. He then quickly gave him back to Andrew.
"Oh, yes, give me the murderous ball of fluff." The cat looked less murderous and more confused, though. Andrew would have liked to comfort him, but Amy was already patting down at his back.
"You're a matching pair. Twins, maybe." Mm. "Come on, I already ordered for us." As the two nudged him along, Andrew allowed himself a small sigh. If nothing else was right in his shit life, at least he had a great big brother and wonderful friends. Well. The plural of that last part could be debated, he supposed, depending on the day and friend he was dealing with. "You had better not get sick, either. Really, Andy, I deal with animals, not humans - and I'm not about to be the next Doolittle."
"Actually, depending on which iteration you're talking about, that was a medical doctor who became a veterinarian." Andrew was pushed down into his seat for his troubles. "Seeing as you deal with animals, however, I might just have a new patient for you."
"Yeah, you know, I kind of noticed," Randy snorted, throwing a few more towels on Andrew before he took his own seat. "I think that's the most sickly, bedraggled little thing I've ever seen." Said 'sickly, bedraggled little thing' promptly hissed at Randy and managed to wiggle a paw out to flex claws at him. "Cute."
"Isn't he?" Andrew grinned, grabbing the paw and giving it a little shake. He was honestly surprised he wasn't scratched for that, but he was more amused by the cat's once more confused expression.
"Sorry, I'm a little distracted because you're holding a cat. A black cat. Andy, frérot, don't you have enough bad luck as it is?"
"Oh, please. You and I both know what a silly superstition that is. Honestly, just because a few people in a colony thought they were the servants of witches we now have-"
"Blue eyes." Snapping his mouth shut, he looked to Randy, Andrew swallowing at the look that was very close to pitying. "Andy, your cat there has blue eyes."
Not having a response to that one, Andrew looked down as their food arrived. Shoving his fork around his dry chicken salad, Andrew picked out a few smaller pieces of chicken before beginning to feed the cat still wrapped up in a towel in his lap. It was a bit sad to see there was no suspicion at the food and instead the cat was gulping it down as fast as possible.
He got through four pieces before Randy finally sighed. "Alright, alright, I'll schedule some time to take a look at him tomorrow. He probably just needs a round of shots and maybe some antibiotics." Ah. The cat was hissing again. "Hey, I'm taking time out of my schedule and money out of my clinic to look at you. You had better appreciate it."
"Isn't that illegal to take money from the clinic?" This time Randy was the one to give a long silence. "If you go to jail again-"
"Hey, last time wasn't my fault!"
"Just like the first, second, and third time weren't your fault?"
"They weren't. I just had some bad influences in my life is all."
"Bad influences! You broke into at pet store and freed all the pets!"
"I found them all homes, didn't I?"
"Randy-"
"So, what are you going to name him?" Oh, look, something that managed to shock him into silence. He was surprised Randy had managed to ask him something so stupid. "Well, you're keeping him, aren't you?"
"Wha- Since when did I say I was keeping him! I have no plans on keeping him and so giving him a name would be superfluous at best and-" Pausing as he felt something hit his fingers, he glanced down to see that the cat had pushed his plate closer to him and was now giving him a judging look. He then went back to nudging the plate and didn't stop until Andrew cautiously took a bite of food.
Across from him, Randy started laughing. Brat. "I like this cat already if he can get you to eat your food!" Please. Andrew was never that bad. Usually.
"It's ridiculous." Andrew took another bite even as he fed the little thing another scrap of chicken. He seemed to make sure Andrew was really eating before taking the bite of food himself. It had Andrew remembering something he didn't want to remember. "D… Danny." The cat in his arms went still for some odd reason, but Randy going silent across from him was what had Andrew looking at the table and rambling.
"It's a good name for a cat, don't you think? Danny? It's certainly not a bad name. Nothing like Snuffles or Snowball or Coal or anything stupid like that. It could be a good name. Okay, so-"
"Danny sounds like a great name, Andy." Glancing up to see his brother's smile, Andrew gave a weak little one back as he fed… As he fed Danny another scrap of chicken. Poor thing was still looking exhausted if he was near limp in his arms now.
"I suppose I'm still not ready to let it all go, am I?" Five years. It had been five years and yet still- Well. Maybe it would be nice to think of someone else when he heard that name. He wasn't sure how effective that would be, though. Black hair and bright blue eyes.
Sighing softly to himself, Andrew bowed his head. He really had been doomed from the start in all of this.
::
"Randy? Can you come here?" Feeling more than seeing his brother rush over, Andrew carefully continued to peel Danny out of the towel around him - the towel that was no longer white. "Is he bleeding?"
"Fuck, you sure know how to pick them if he is." Randy was inspecting Danny at once, the poor thing too tired to do much more than make a pathetic growling noise. "He definitely was. Most of it is scabbing over, but those are some nasty wounds… You have tomorrow off?"
"Wha- Oh, yes." Taking a moment to make sure it was indeed Tuesday tomorrow, Andrew gave a nod. "Yes, I have it off."
"Bring him by around eleven or so, okay?" That bad, then. "For tonight just keep him from moving too much, don't let him jump or run around, and make sure he gets plenty of water. No water or food after midnight, though, okay? I don't know how much he'll need done tomorrow."
"Got it." Andrew tucked the towel back around Danny, shifting him in his arms so he was more comfortable. "Can you pay for the towel, too?"
"You're something else." What was that supposed to mean! "Yes, Andy, I'll pay for the towel, too. Now go home, will you? You're making me near cry just looking at you."
"Mother and I could say the same about you," Andrew sniffed, turning on his heel and choosing to take Danny's strange noise as a laugh. "Danny agrees with me, too!"
"Doesn't he always?" Heh. Guess he wasn't the only one who couldn't leave it all behind. "Go cuddle up with a book, nerd."
"Try not to wind up in jail again!" Poking his head out of the cafe, Andrew sighed in relief as he saw the rain had finally stopped. "See? Our bad luck isn't so bad." Looking around, Andrew jumped as he felt the pricking of teeth against his hand that hand the bandage on it. Danny wasn't biting, but he was certainly getting his attention. "What? Are you bleeding again? Am I?"
After a few moments of nothing else happening, and not seeing any blood, Andrew looked back up to start off towards home before he felt the 'bite' again. "I can't read minds, you-" Ah. "You're reminding me to get my medicine." The teeth left him and Danny gave a soft purr. "Well, you at least can earn your keep, I suppose."
It was probably coincidence, but… It was nice to think that someone else was helping him remember the important things. "Right. First my medicine, and then we can go home." Maybe his luck really wasn't so bad.

What are the similarities and differences between fairy magic colours and ghost ray colours?
Oh, FINALLY! I’ve been drumming my fingers, waiting for someone to ask me about the Ghost colors. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to reveal them one by one in “No Anesthetic” (since each one is a chapter title), or do a post about them (which I wrote and scrapped three times), but an Ask makes it tough to refuse.
In both shows (under my headcanons), colors are situational, and not selected by the user at will (Well, that’s a lie. Ember can choose what color to use with her guitar, which in itself implies that different colors have different abilities or levels of strength). They’re KIND OF based on emotions, but there’s a lot of cognition involved too.
And the emotions and situations associated with the colored powers of each show obviously vary (Ex: Green is a rare color of magic in FOP, but probably the most common one in DP).
FAIRIES
This is the tl;dr- the full color post can be found here.
Yellow -> Putting others first; delight - Can only be reverted by caster; does not revert itself with caster’s death; in “He Poofs, He Scores”, this color was associated with balance.
Blue -> Irritation (Common in fights) - Can be reverted by the caster or a bystander with great effort, but irritation must have subsided somewhat; in “HPHS”, this color was associated with speed.
> > Indigo -> High inner conflict; instant regret - Same as above, but will also reverse itself when the caster falls asleep (Some Fairies don’t believe it’s real, but since it seems to be Juandissimo’s signature magic color, I can’t just ignore it! It’s a “tested proof vs. anecdotes” argument that gets mentioned sometimes in my fanfics, but it’s not like a big deal or anything).
Pink -> Knee-jerk response; also used in shapeshifting - Any bystander can revert it with a bit of effort;in “HPHS”, this color was associated with reflexes.
> > Red -> Obsession; survival instinct - Reverts itself within minutes;in “HPHS”, this color was associated with strength.
Purple -> Neutral (Magic’s natural state) - Can only be reverted by caster; reverts itself with caster’s death; interestingly enough, in “HPHS”, this color was associated with happiness.
Green -> Misery; can also be triggered by laziness - Reverts itself within hours; in “HPHS”, this color was associated with coordination.
Reminder - because it’s FASCINATING - that Foop’s magic once went from blue to purple to green in the course of a single episode (“Scary Godcouple”). I mentioned this in a video one time (at 1:00), if you wanted to hear me talk about learned helplessness and stuff. Best homework assignment ever~
All I want for Christmas is to find the “HPHS” original script on Scribd and see if each trait is paired with its color specifically but it’s not on there so :/
GHOSTS
So, we all know where that brings us! I drove myself to F I T S trying to find any color parallels, and any previous post I may have made speculating about ghost colors will be retconned by this post. I finally settled on the idea of “emotions based on concepts that don’t translate well into English”, and gave them “ghost language” names. Check it out:
Califca (cahl-if-kuh) n. - Boldness intertwined with stupidity; well-meant rashness; orderly chaos. Deliberate intent achieved through thoughtlessness. Or i'calif (v.), the act of enjoying the presence of the color red.
Obviously, this is Youngblood’s element! Ember used the switch on her guitar to trigger it in “Girl’s Night Out” and amplify Kitty’s kiss. In doing so, this affected the entire city, suggesting it to be a very powerful color. It’s also the color associated with Freakshow’s staff, and there’s one very quick hint that Dark Danny used red when he was messing around at Nasty Burger. Otherwise, it doesn’t seem to get used much, which is interesting given its power. Also, like, Youngblood having that much power??? Wow. I suspect his prosthetic limbs help him channel that kind of energy.
Ampau (Am-paw) n. - The intrinsic joy garnered from experiencing moderation; pleasurable patience. Or ampau’du (v.), to notice and delight in the existence of the color pink.
Vlad has used pink quite often, and I’ve seen Desirée and Walker use it too (as examples). I was originally going to make it the color that only heals, helps, or defends, but then it got used as a weapon too much, so now it’s based on patience. Patience? Yeah, sorry, you’re just gonna have to go with it.
Sherch (shærsh) v. - To pride oneself in helping another achieve a goal which carried with it a sense of looming impossibility; to bathe oneself in the color purple.
The “achievement unlocked” color! Y’know that whole thing about neurons in your brain being connected when you try new things? Yeah, trying new things or hoping something works will trigger purple. It seems to be a very rare color in DP. Ember used it to hypnotize the school crowd in her debut episode (who curiously all had red eyes despite the purple energy blast), and there may be other purple examples, but I can’t think of them off the top of my head.
Bruir (Broo-air) n. - The action that results when one reacts to a sudden flash of inspiration; a place where the color blue is a welcome addition.
I believe this is the equivalent of pink in FOP- the knee-jerk response color (though other colors normally take precedent over it).
Tijii (Tee-jee) adj. - Defendable, easy to find pleasure in, affectionately appreciated or admired to the point of urging others to soften their hearts; naturally-formed green tint or shade
Green boils down to being the defensive color, and feelings of self-defense can trigger it too. Since it’s also the “happy/neutral” color, it’s pretty common.
BASICALLY:
Califca -> Red -> Rashness (Equiv. of FOP blue, and some pink)
Ampau -> Pink -> Patience (Equiv. of FOP purple)
Sherch -> Purple -> Hope (Equiv. of FOP green, but with more optimism)
Bruir -> Blue -> Insight (Equiv. of FOP pink)
Tijii -> Green -> Happiness (Equiv. of FOP yellow)
Yeah, they’ll do juuuuussssst fine. My ghost “emotions” may seem a tad funky, but hey- they’re something! I have to start somewhere!

Broken Soul: Twenty
"Oh..." a voice uttered from the balcony doorway. Dannie and Evan turned around to see Myra standing there. She didn't look pleased. "Sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt..."
"You didn't," Evan assured her, taking a step back from Dannie. "Did you need something, Myra?"
"I just thought you should know the leader of the Midnite clan called, asking you to attend his event tomorrow," she informed him. "So you can discuss business."
"I already said I would."
"Yes, but he wanted you to confirm your invitation."
"What did you tell him?"
"I told him to expect you. He also said to bring a guest. Will I be going?"
"It might not be safe," he told her. "If the Midnite clan are all attending, they might hurt you. I should go alone."
Dannie could tell that Myra was disappointed. But she didn't complain. "Alright. I'll inform him you'll be going. I'll leave you two to your conversation." Without another word, she disappeared through the room and went downstairs.
"I think she wants to go with you," Dannie observed.
"She understands why I can't let her."
"Evan..." Dannie asked curiously, "what kind of business do you deal with?"
"Property," he replied bluntly. "And money."
"Have you ever...killed anyone?" She remembered the awful things Ashes said he had done. She didn't want any of it to be true.
"No," he answered. "Not that I can remember."
This was good. He couldn't recall killing Katie but at least he most likely hadn't taken the lives of anyone since. "Have you ever hurt anybody intentionally or tortured them?"
"No."
"Do you steal your money?"
"Why are you asking me all these questions?" he remarked.
"I just heard rumors about you and I didn't know if they were true," Dannie explained.
"Sometimes a reputation is all you can use to protect yourself in a place like this," he said.
"Wait...Did you start those rumors?"
"I did."
"Why?"
"Because it keeps people away from my property," he elaborated. "In case you didn't know, vampire slayers still exist. Did you want everyone to think I was a saint with fangs that would invite you in for tea if you walked up to my door? Of course not. This way, people leave me alone."
Dannie smiled at him widely. "I knew you weren't bad."
"Oh, I can be bad," he warned her as he turned to walk back inside.
"Sure you can," she teased and followed him. She laughed and the sound of it made Evan stop suddenly. He could hear her in his mind. He closed his eyes for a moment and could picture a girl's face smiling at him. The vision was blurry but he thought it looked like Dannie.
"What's wrong?" she asked and stepped to his side.
Evan opened his eyes. He wasn't sure what to do with that vision. It was too brief to get information from. He guessed it was a memory resurfacing. It was trying to tell him he had heard that sound before. "Nothing," he replied. "I'm fine."
Dannie didn't believe him but she didn't pry. If he didn't want to talk about it, she wouldn't force him.
* * * * *
Everybody ended up downstairs in the front room. Erick was rearranging one of the bookshelves. Evan was reading a book. Myra sat beside him writing notes in their planner. Dannie had just finished browsing through a newspaper and folded it up and set it on the table in front of her.
"This castle is huge," she muttered. "There's got to be at least one TV somewhere in here."
"Sorry, there isn't," Evan replied, his eyes glued to his book. "I don't need any of that mind rotting garbage in my house."
Wow, he really has changed, Dannie thought to herself. Evan used to love watching TV and movies and playing video games. Next to music, it was his favorite thing.
"How do you know what is happening in the world then?" she asked him.
"If you really want a television, I'll have Myra go out and buy one tomorrow," he promised. "Will that make you happy?"
"I guess." Dannie was bored now though. She didn't feel like waiting. Sitting there with nothing to do was not going to pass the time so she got up to find something constructive. When she passed the front door, she heard a faint sound coming from outside. Quickly, she unlocked the door and opened it and began to run out.
The others had heard her and were curious as to what was going on. "Danielle!" Evan shouted and within a second, he was right behind her and grabbed her arm. She almost screamed.
"My god, Evan, don't do that!" She gasped for breath.
"What are you doing?" he asked, ready to yell at her. "What did I say about leaving the castle??"
"Evan, chill out, I'm not leaving," she promised. "I just heard something and I-" There it was again. She realized where it was coming from. She ran over to the gate and there on the other side was the most beautiful cat she had ever seen. It was a black cat with long fur and its dark eyes sparkled up at her. When she approached it, the cat sat and meowed. "Awww!" she exclaimed and knelt down in pet it through the gate. "Come here, kitty!"
"Danielle..." Evan wasn't too sure about this. "Maybe you shouldn't-"
"Oh, come on, it's just a cat," she said and opened the gate for it and then picked it up. The cat instantly started to purr. "She's such a sweetie, can't we keep her?"
"She could belong to someone," Evan pointed out. "Leave her."
"Evan, there aren't any other people around for miles," she argued. "Someone probably dumped the poor thing." She checked for a collar and didn't find one. "No owner."
"Danielle, are you sure it's really a cat?"
"Look at her, of course, she is," Dannie laughed.
"No, I mean, it could be a shapeshifter," he declared.
"How can you tell if it is?" she asked.
"Erick. He might know."
Without thinking twice, they took the cat inside and showed her to him. "Do you sense evil from this animal?" Evan asked her.
Erick silently stared at the cat Dannie was holding for almost a minute. Then he reached out to touch it. The cat growled and hissed at him then leaped out of Dannie's arms and ran away to hide.
"What was that about?" Dannie asked and hurried after the cat. She was too far away now to hear the rest of the conversation.
"Is it evil?" Evan asked the demon.
"Evil?...No," Erick replied. "But an animal?... I doubt it."
"Should we tell Danielle?"
"Let it be for now," Erick advised. "It seems harmless. It may be another demon. I'll keep a close eye on it. Just in case."
Dannie had caught the cat and fed her in the kitchen. Then she took the cat up to her room and pet her. "You are so pretty," she said and touched her soft, black fur. She smiled as she looked into her dark eyes. "I should just call you October. You remind me of her." The cat looked at her attentively after she said that. "Wait... Are you October?" The cat started grooming herself instead of giving any kind of answer. "Maybe not. You probably have no idea what I'm saying." She pet the cat again and the cat plopped down on her back and Dannie scratched her stomach. "You're adorable," she giggled. "I guess you're more fun than a television. It is kind of nice to have someone to talk to even if you can't understand me. Myra seems to hate me and Erick is a little scary and October isn't here where I can talk to her and Ashes keeps disappearing and Evan...He doesn't seem to want talk a lot. And I can't tell him much anyway. I just hope things get back to normal soon." The cat sat upright and just looked at her like she was listening. Dannie smiled. "Do you think there's hope for me? Or am I a lost cause?" The cat meowed. She couldn't tell if it was a yes or no. It just made her laugh. "Thanks...I guess."
After a while, she fell asleep and the cat just sat at the foot of her bed and looked out the window. It almost appeared like she was waiting for something.
