The cedar waxwings blew through a few weeks ago. As a species, their M.O. is to show up like locusts, eat every berry in the state, poop on everyone's cars, and then vanish within a day. I respect it, i suppose.

A few birds I saw this morning: cedar waxwings, a pied billed grebe, a hawk that I think is a broad-winged hawk but I'm willing to be corrected, and a belted kingfisher. I saw lots of other birds including a meadow lark, a brown thrasher, barn swallows, tree swallows, and purple martins. And a lot of the usual suspects like great blue herons, Canada geese and red-winged blackbirds. It's early in migration but it's already getting exciting.

Cedar Waxwing. (Bombycilla cedrorum)
They don’t usually stop by the yard until the Mulberry tree is in full swing in mid-May.  The birds today included juveniles that were still requesting assistance from their parents to drink and feed.

Cedar Waxwing
The food is still plentiful along the edge of the woods. The Waxwings found some choice berries that were unaffected by the frosts.
