“Well hello there sleeping beauty.”
My eyes burst open with a jolt, and my entire body leaps into a fighting stance. My heart thumps erratically in my chest, and I can feel my breathing intensifying with each passing second. My gaze darts around the room, scanning the faces of those around me. Fear taunts me from behind, hovering over my shoulder with ravenous anticipation.
My head is in turmoil, I can barely stand. Every bone in my body aches and I am utterly disorientated. How long have I been out? Where on earth am I? The whirlpool of questions in my mind is overwhelming, and waves of nausea engulf me.
My legs give way beneath me, and my knees violently hit the rough wooden floor. The excruciating pain resonates through my entire being, sending ripples of agony through every nerve and muscle.
Cautiously, a firm and gentle hand reaches out to me, steadying my shaking body. I try to catch my breath, but the bile in my stomach rises up my throat, threatening to choke me. I struggle to speak but manage to croak, "Bucket!"
And then, without warning, my stomach lurches violently, puking out every last drop of its contents on the floor.
Smooth, caring hands caress my face, brushing the hair away and tucking it behind my ears. My shaking body relaxes under the gentle touches, slowly sinking cautiously into the warm embrace.
My guard falters, caution and awareness slipping away from me as I sink into the illusion that it was Squirt’s embrace I am wrapped up in, his warm scent of sea spray, flowers and a hint of toffy enveloping me, it is his sisters gentle hands that caress my skin. My walls rise up around me, shielding me from the harsh reality. An oasis. A haven. My own little bubble…
The resounding click of that infernal cane cut through the air, bursting my meticulously crafted cocoon of comfort. Flames dance in my palms. A rage ignites in me. Hot and searing, a fury unlike any I've ever felt before bursting to life within me. How dare he, Kaz Brekker, bring me here, lull me into a false sense of security. How dare he.
The arms around my waist tightened.
“Good to see you’re finally awake.” He smirks.
My whole body trembles with anger at the mere sight of him. I can feel my blood boiling and my fists clenching. All I want to do is punch him right now. I see it. The shock on his face as my fist connects squarely with his jaw.
“Cat got your tongue.” He mocks.
“What do you want!” I spit through gritted teeth.
My fists are balls of burning hot red flame, my rage barely under control.
“What do I want?” His eyebrows rise, the question hanging in the air as he prowls into the room, his cane striking against the wooden floor rhythmically. “What do I want?” He repeats, his voice low and cold, stopping directly in front of me. “I’ll tell you this, Y/l/n, I need an Inferni for some jobs I have lined up and you just so happen to be one, so now I am here, asking you to help me, does that answer your question?” Kaz snarles.
“So you want to use me.” I hiss.
Kaz smirks. “I don’t want to use you, I need an Inferni for some jobs, nothing more.”
Pride keeps my mouth shut, rage boils through my body, influencing the clarity of my thoughts. I break out of the strong hold around my waist and swiftly rise to my feet. It doesn’t make a difference, Kaz Brekker still looms over me, smirking down at my small, skinny frame. I flick my wrists, sending sparks flying around the room, caressing their faces threateningly, sending silent messages of torturous pain drowned in the heat of powerful Inferni flames.
Fear flickers in Kaz’s eyes. He had underestimated me. I laugh to myself. He has no idea what I’m capable of. The deep power with in me stirs, the cut waiting to be called.
“Enough!” Kaz’s voice is rough and raw, “I will not force you to join us.”
I snort, “from the way you were just talking it sounds like I don’t have a choice.”
“Well you do now, either take it or leave it.” He blurts, regret flashes momentarily across his face before it is smoothed over with a cool mask of composure.
I flick my wrist sending a single deadly spark flying across the room into the barrel of Jesper’s prized revolver.
“Drop the gun Jesper, it’s going to explode!” Kaz shouts, terror evident in his voice. Obviously Dirtyhands does have a weakness.
The gun explodes into tiny pieces of shrapnel just as Jesper releases it. It is just the distraction I need to slip out the window, unnoticed. Swiftly, I scramble down the wall, dropping to the ground soundlessly. I lean against the wall momentarily to catch my breath. Scampering away, I gladly slink back into the shadows.
It was like greeting an old friend. Comfort washes over me. The darkness enveloping me in a familiar hug, shielding me from prying eyes. My nerves settle, heart rate calming, breathing returning back to normal. Shadows fall over me like a second skin. I am back where I belong.
The shadows are cool against my skin, they slide over my arms like silk, covering me in a rippling mass of darkness, they are like a large black cloak that billows out around me in the wind, hiding me from prying eyes. It feels good to go around unnoticed, once again a ghost, gone with the wind. No regular person would see me.
But Kaz Brekker is not a regular person.
There he is, standing at the edge of the docks, staring out into the horizon where the dark, inky blue sea meets the pale sky. I feel the sharp claws of fear dig into my flesh. He knew… he knew I would come to this place, he knew… What else does he know?
“I thought you would come.” He croaks, voice rough, amusement coats his words in a sickly sweet tone.
His gaze stays fixed ahead, unwavering on the slowly darkening horizon.
“What do you want?” I whisper.
“I’ve already told you, now I need an answer.” He replies smoothly.
Fear wraps its long sharp claws around my neck, squeezing my airways shut, preventing me from speaking.
Kaz Brekker slowly spins around. His tall, lean frame looms over me, hie eyebrows raised, hands resting atop his cane, waiting.
“I—,” my voice catches in my throat, fear breaths down my neck sending shivers down my spine.
I swallow the lump in my throat back down, “what sort of jobs are you asking me to do?” I hate how shaky my voice sounds.
“Why does it matter.” He retorts.
“Because I want to know what I’m getting myself into,” I say, the words rushing out of my mouth, “if I say yes that is,” I add quickly, already regretting the way fear made words carelessly tumble from my mouth.
“I think you’ve already made up your mind,” he smirks.
The haunting, dark pools of his irises bore into me, scrutinising every inch of my face. Fear squeezes my chest, my heart hammers in my ears.
I feel my lips move, “o-ok” I stammer fearfully.
Brekker’s smirk widens, “good, be at the slat at eight bells sharp, I don’t tolerate tardiness.” He turns on his heel, loping up the crowded streets of West Stave to god knows where.
Waves of weariness wash over me, fear removes its grip from my body, the gentle waves lapping at the docks catch my gaze, grounding me. The weight of me decision hits me with the force of a speeding horse.
What have I gotten myself into?
My thoughts drift again, to a similar view. Staring out at the lake at the Little Palace, watching the other Tidemakers send currents drifting through the murky waters. With his arm hung loosely over my shoulder, we stand in comfortable silence.
My attention shifts again as the noise of the crowd swells. Children and adults alike push past each other to the edge to the docks. Looking through the mist covered sea a ship can be seen. The pale blue sails flapping in the salty wind, the Ravkan crest proudly on display.
My gut twists, fear is back again. It locks my joints, rendering me immobilised. I’m just where it wants me to be, wrapped around its finger.
But I will not be a servant to fear.
Heart pounding, lungs burning, my senses return to my whirling mind. I race back to my flat, securing the door behind me.
The Crows will have to wait. I am not leaving the safety of my flat until that ship is gone.

He’s different; his job, his life, heck even his identity. As much as he kept secrets from you, you knew there was more to him than just that bubbly, slightly cringey, cute guy you met in the net.
You were bored by time when you matched with him in some random dating app, not really knowing you’d enjoy his crazy jokes and eventually, his company. It took you awhile before he actually went by your place and vice versa. However, he preferred the latter since he said he has a lot of work and he’d bring at least his laptop when he comes by your place or he’d have to go home early to finish his work. He’s a very busy man, you realized. That’s also why you two never progressed into something other than that line between friendship and being an official couple.
It was not what you two intended anyway at first. There were some casual flirting—wait, scratch that. There were a lot of flirting especially in texts or calls. “What? What’s wrong?” he asks, his smile falling as he looks at you worriedly. “Do you not like the movie?”
You avert away, avoiding his eyes, afraid he’d see through the hundred bricked walls you’ve built up against him, just like the security gate that he has before you could get in his home.
“It’s not that-“ your voice comes out rushed. “-maybe I’m just tired.” you were—it’s not a lie. You’re tired of hiding these feelings and not acting upon it. How could you? You’re too afraid to break whatever friendship you had with him—the only relationship that mattered to you right now.
“Oh.” he lets out. “Do you want to-uhm-stop watching? Do you want to sleep? You can sleep for awhile, I think. If only you want to though! I’m not forcing you or anything.” he blabbered, clearly embarrassed.
Don’t do that, Luciel, you say to your mind. Don’t make me hope.
“No, it’s alright. Let’s watch.” you say, dropping your hands to fish some Honey Buddha Chips that were settled onto a big bowl in between the two of you. However, before you could even do so, a familiar warmth envelops your hand and your head whips to Luciel, surprised.
He has a blush on his cheeks, almost resembling the color of his hair. “Y/n-I could tell something’s bothering you. What is it? You should not feel this way, it’s your birthday.”
Ah, that’s right. The reason he probably invited you was because he felt bad he couldn’t even go to your birthday gathering, where you gathered several of your friends to a club last night. Your head still spins from all the stuff that went on; all the drinking, kissing, dancing. Have you hooked up with someone else? You can’t even remember. Maybe you did. All you knew was that you hated Luciel’s work—for taking him from you, even if he wasn’t yours anyway.
“It’s nothing.” you brush his question away, but not his hand. His hand felt too warm and amazing against yours. You’re too selfish to push it away.
The look on his eyes made you want to say what’s been bothering you. But it’s not that simple. You can’t really tell him you’ve been in love with him after almost two years of friendship; that you can’t get him off your head even if you’re fucking another person or in another blind date, finding his warmth and touches in other people. Did you though? Nope. Not a single one.
His thumb brushes softly against your hand, butterflies spreading from your stomach, traveling to your heart. He’s not one to initiate skinship and it made you wonder why he’s doing this now. You wanted to question him, you really do. But how could you? You’re afraid he’d stop it altogether.
“It’s not nothing.” he objects, his voice soft. “Today’s your special day. Uh-Do you want to do something else? Do you want to play games? Do you-“
“You can’t-“ you cut him off from his rambling, pulling your gaze away from his eyes to divert your attention back at the television screen. “You can’t give me what I want.”
You tried focusing, despite the distraction that his hand provided. However, your efforts were futile. You can’t even get the gist of the movie by now. Is this an action movie? Or comedy? You’ve got not a single idea.
You felt him remove the bowl in between the two of you without letting go of your hand and move closer, until he was inches away, his whole body facing yours. “Come on, tell it to me! I’m sure I can probably hack my way into it.” he laughs, trying to lift up the mood, probably.
“You can’t, Luciel.” you used his name—fake name, your tone indicating that the conversation was over and you didn’t want to talk about it. You could tell he wanted to push it but he kept his mouth shut. It ached you to act like this to him. But what could you do? One look from him will make you get on your knees if he wanted. One touch and you’d be crumbling down your walls to let him in. Maybe-
Maybe you should stop hiding?
I mean, there’s nothing left to recover, right? If this keeps on going, it would just be the same as being heartbroken from the unrequited feelings. Were you willing to risk Luciel and your friendship?
You were not the one who decided that, however, for a hand grasps gently on your chin, making you face him once again. You noticed how he had leaned closer to you, taking your breath away at the current proximity between the two of you.
“Hey...” you snap, a bit harsher than you intended. “What are you doing?”
He was blushing, but he did not back down. This is not just part of those flirting you’ve done before—it’s different from all of those you’ve done before.
“I...” he trails off, almost like he wanted to say something. But then he lets out a sigh, bumping his forehead into yours while closing his eyes.
You could smell him—it was not the scent from the Honey Buddha Chips he’d probably eaten all day, but rather it was a the sweetness and freshness of his perfume, most likely sprayed earlier on before you came. Bergamot with hints of lemon? You don’t really know much about luxurious perfumes but you could tell that he’d spent a generous money on this one.
You couldn’t hold back. It was your fault for cutting that thin thread of separation between friends and something more. You were the one who held on his jacket, pulling him closer to you and inhaling on his scent.
His eyes shot open, now looking at you with a surprised look. You could feel your heart pound when you met his golden irises, observing his reaction.
You dreaded as the seconds pass by, silence hanging between the two of you despite the distant noise from the built-in speakers that was installed in his living room. Yet, the only thing you could focus on were his eyes, his scent, his warmth, his soft breaths—in short, him.
Until he finally closes his eyes and relents all the restraints that bounded him from doing something more, leaning forward to brush his lips slightly onto yours, testing the waters.
Your heart jumps but you didn’t move away. Instead, you decided to let it all go and met his lips again, this time giving in to your inner desires for once and for all. You knew you should’ve stopped, should’ve pushed him away. But what can you do when you’ve just ached for him that much?
The kisses were light as a feather, and his lips were inexperienced. Yet, it didn’t fail to make your heart flutter like a high-school girl kissing her crush. The hands that gripped on his jacket pulled him closer, deepening the kiss as a result.
You pull away to kiss the side of his lips, a hand raising to cup his jaw, relishing on the way he responds. You did sense uncertainty in his aura however, and it made you stop your actions.
“Is this... okay?” you ask, voice hushed in a whisper, like you’re afraid anybody else will hear despite knowing no on else was there aside from you and him.
He peaks a look at you and nods, a simple action yet it weighed much more than anything else you’ve done your whole life. You caress his cheek, as gentle as a dove flopping its wings as it glides into the air. You adored the way he leans into your touch, resembling a scene of yourself petting a cat.
“There will be no going back.” you spilled the words out of your mouth, as if telling it to yourself at the same time. This time, he looks you straight in the eye behind his Gucci glasses, his messy vermillion locks adoring his head, accentuating more of his sharp but adorable face.
“I know. I just-“ he pauses, his brows furrowing. “I can’t hide it anymore. Whenever I see you sad, it hurts me how I can’t comfort you the way I want to.”
You held the sides of his face and gave him all of your attention, letting him speak further. His expressions told you a lot of his emotions, mirroring the inside with the outside with how exposed he was.
“I want to hug you whenever you’re stressed, I want to kiss all of your tears away. You don’t know how much I want to take your mind away from all the things that brings a frown to your face.” he rattles on, pouring out all of his emotions to you. You’ve never seen him look so broken and desperate, and you just want to hug the daylights out of him.
But you did more than that, pressing your lips to his once again, lasting for a couple of seconds before you lean back and gaze at him lovingly. “You can, you know. You just have to let me in.”
He didn’t respond verbally after that. Instead, he kissed you again, filled with emotions of the moon that chose to show itself in the darkness of the night.
Moments passed by in a blur; his touches making you feel light-headed and his kisses being the only thing that’s keeping you from pushing on. It was finally happening—he’s finally the one in front of you, taking you to bed, not just some random stranger you’ve picked up from the bar or someone who you’ve just had your first date with.
“Luciel, I-“
“I’m not Luciel.”
Your head snapped to look him in the eyes. “What?”
“Don’t call me Luciel.” he says, glancing up at you from his position below you as you straddled his lap, his hands wrapped around you protectively.
“I want you to call me by my real name, Saeyoung.” his golden irises held the sincerity and trust that he felt towards you and you can’t help but gaze adoringly at him, raising your hands to cup his cheeks before grasping upon the temples of his glasses and gently remove it out of his face. You had to stretch a bit to place it on the bedside table but once you came back in front of him, he pulls you once again into a heated make-up session, spreading more butterflies flutter in your stomach.

“Who’s that?” he questions, his voice muffled by your skin as he peaks at the screen.
“I don’t know, honestly.” you respond and you were about to ignore the call and turn off the phone when he speaks again.

“Dean,” She says, pushing back a little to get him awake.
“Jesus, what?”
She giggles. Dean’s always so cranky when he gets woken up. His sleeping schedule has changed completely since he’s not working anymore and even more since he takes care of her. To her, it feels like he’s been catching up on sleep that he’s missed since the day he came back from the war.
“Today’s the day.” She says, and turns inside the covers, hitting her cast against his shin.
“Fucking Christ, Y/N!” Dean shouts out in pain.
“Sorry.” She whispers and Dean lies on his back, spreads his arm out and lets her crawl in.
“It’s okay, just be careful. What’s today?” He asks but she thinks he knows. She’s been talking about it or a week! Counting back the days and hours leading up to it.
“The cast?” She says anyway, rubbing it into his face.

“Looking at you how?” She’s baffled.
Dean frowns, “I know that look alright, it’s when you’re up to no good.” And with his next breath he adds, “The answer is no.”
She moves forward anyway, grins stupidly as she lowers herself down, lays her hand on his thigh.
“Baby,” His voice vibrates, it’s some kind of a warning, she knows that, it’s just… she doesn’t really care.

She usually stays up until he’s home, mostly watching crime documentaries on Netflix and cuddling with Bubbles. She misses Cuddles, missed that old grumpy cat and she still blames herself for leaving him behind.
It’s three days until the wedding and she’s been out and bought a dress, found some nice flats to go with it and cozies herself up with a container of ice cream when she hears the turning of a key in the lock.
Dean comes in, walks to the couch to greet her and bubbles. He smells like plaster and varnish. He steals a spoonful of ice cream, before stealing a kiss from her. “Be right out.” He says and she knows it’s because he goes to take a shower.
Sometimes Dean would come back to see her taking a bath and upon seeing it, he undressed hastily to join her. They also manage to go to Bobby's once when Dean came home earlier. That was nice. Bobby was delighted to see her, even though she was scared to go there at first, still thinks that Dean’s people will hate her.
After she eats half of the container, Dean comes out of the bedroom, dressed only in his pj pants, his hair and body still damp. She clenches her jaw, because the sight does something to her. The sight being him shirtless, with damp ruffled up hair. He comes closer and she can see all the little freckles sprayed on his body.
“Why aren’t you wearing a shirt?” She asks, raises one eyebrow, not that she minds, though.
Dean sits down next to her, one finger hooks into the collar of her shirt, pulling at it a little. “Because you’re wearing my shirt.”

He usually comes home and changes into a shirt after showering and he wears the same shirt for a couple of days, because he usually sleeps shirtless, only wears it to sit with her on the sofa. Today she missed him, so she took the liberty to wear it because it smells like him and she loves that.
“C’mere.” Dean spreads his arm and she climbs into his lap, the ice cream container still in her hand and all.
Y/N lays her head on his shoulder, and Dean kisses her forehead before he takes the container out of her hand.
“Yeah, take it before I empty it.” She says and buries her face into the crook of his neck. She sniffs him, his scent totally makes her light headed.
He laughs, eats the ice cream and watches TV with her for a while wordlessly. She likes that too, next to talking or sex. She likes how comfortable they are in their silence. She doesn’t always need to talk and she doesn’t always need him to talk. Sometimes it can be really great to just sit here and not talk at all.
When the show ends, the ice cream is gone and Dean gave it to her to set it on the coffee table, because she’s still on his lap and he couldn’t move. She takes the remote, zaps through some channels to see if there’s anything on.
“Can I ask you something?” Dean asks out of the blue.
“Sure.” She says, not sure where this is going but they make it a habit to answer anything truthfully.
She looks up at him and his finger comes up to paint over her face. Painting the line of her eyebrows, down her nose, the crease around her lips. As if he wants to memorize her with the tip of his fingers.
“Why did you think I could ever be happy? I mean, without you.”
He’s talking about the letter she left, she knows that. Sometimes, he would ask her things that crossed his mind. There’s still a lot of why’s and what ifs that they need to work through.
Y/N throws her arms around his neck, lays her forehead to his face, feels his bread scratchy and somehow soft. “Because,” She says, “When you love someone, all you want is for that person to be happy, even if you’re not part of that happiness.”
“It’s bullshit, though.”
“Language!” She warns him.
Dean sighs, “That’s bullcrap!”
“Why?”
Dean’s arms come up around her and he places his lips to her forehead and mumbles into her skin, “Because there’s really no happiness when you’re not part of it.”

Anna and Cas’ wedding is upstate and Y/N is packing her things because Dean said that he’s booked into a hotel nearby so that they wouldn’t have to make the long drive back after.
She’s already dressed in her navy blue cocktail dress as he walks in wearing a fucking suit, he still looks like a walking billboard ad for an expensive perfume and she thinks that it’s probably never going to change. Dean manages to look flawless with everything he wears and it’s really not fucking fair.
He’s never seen her dress before so he takes some time to take in the view before he opens his mouth to ask, “Not red?”
“It’s a wedding, I don’t wanna stand out and steal the thunder.”
Dean chuckles at that, walks closer and bends down to kiss her. “Well, you do steal my heart.”
“Ugh. So cheesy."
“Hey!”
They laugh and he picks up their bag. She wonders why they had to dress up already when they could do it there in the hotel but Dean makes up some excuses and what does she know. She’s just his ‘plus one’ anyway. Today’s certainly not about her. And also not really about Dean, even though she needs to tell him something that’s been nagging her. She decides that it could wait. Doesn’t want to ruin the mood, especially not when there’s an almost two hours drive ahead of them with no way to escape each other should things get awkward.

It’s a beautiful place which Cas — or rather Anna — has chosen for the wedding. An old manor, with a big white pavilion in the middle of a meadow. A square wooden dance floor off to a side, tables set up all in white to the other side. There’s a flower arch in the back too, with white chairs lined up for the ceremony.
Y/N wonders if her wedding would be similar to this as well. Wonders if the man standing next to her would be Dean. She doesn’t even know if Dean wants to get married at all and if yes, would she be the one he would want to marry?
Although she likes the set up and thinks it’s lovely, she still thinks that it would be too much for herself. A little too over the top. She would want something smaller. Only a handful of good friends and people, maybe in a backyard. There’s no need to really rent out anything and make a big fuss about it. But she doesn’t judge, people are different and that’s okay as it is.
They were amongst the first ones to arrive because Dean wants to be here for Cas. They find him in the manor, off in a room by himself.
Dean went straight in, hugged his friend and did some prep talk. It’s a while before Cas even notices her. She’s a little shy, didn’t have time to go and meet them beforehand since she’s been back.
“Hey, Y/N,” Cas’ voice is steady, calm. Although he’s nervous, she can see that.
“Hi Cas,” She smiles and the dark haired man opens his arms for a hug. She goes in willingly. “Congratulations!”
“Thanks,” Cas says, “It’s good to have you back.”
“No hard feelings?”
“No hard feelings from me.” Cas nods before he looks over to Dean, “Well, I can imagine that someone was hard, though.”
Y/N laughs as Dean puts Cas into a headlock.
Dean and Cas were talking and she knows that Dean pulls out everything he’s got to distract his friend. She wonders if she should go find Anna, at least introducing herself because she’s never seen the woman before but then again, she thinks that Anna probably has a lot to worry about right now and she shouldn’t interrupt her. There’s still time for when they all will be less stressed.

She sits between Jess and Gabriel when the wedding starts and Dean’s standing next to Cas in front of the arch. God he looks good and she can’t help but think about a wedding where Dean is the groom. How he would stand there and wait for the bride, a smile on his face as big as Cas’. He sees her and winks, and she blushes at that, afraid that he can read her mind.
The music starts and Anna walks in, a wedding gown in champagne color and oh god, she looks so beautiful with her red hair and all, there’s a little bump which is perfectly accentuated by the dress Anna’s wearing. Dean had told her that Anna’s pregnant and she couldn’t be happier for Cas.
Y/N frowns at first because Anna looks damn familiar and then it hits her.
“Is Anna’s name Milton?” She whispers and asks Gabriel.
“Yeah, why?”
“Ah, nevermind.” She says, but in reality, she does mind because her heart starts to pump faster.
That’s Anna Milton. Brad Milton's big sister. Her ex-boyfriend’s big sister. And she knows her, she knows his mother. She looks around and spots the mother and Brad in the first row.

After the wedding Dean comes to find her, wants to introduce her to Anna but she holds him back before he could drag her over. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
“What is it?” Dean’s one hand is on the small of her back.
“I know Anna.”
“Okay? From where?” He frowns a little but he’s not really irritated.
She sighs, “My boyfriend in high school, Brad. She’s his sister. I know their whole family.”
Okay, maybe Dean is a little irritated. Because he frowns some more, the creases between his eyebrows deepens as his lips try to form words.
“The one who took your virginity?”
“Dean!” She shushes him, he’s so loud! She can only hope nobody heard him and whispers, “Yeah, but that was a long time ago, alright?”
“But you two still text and all that.” Dean hisses now.
Yeah, she forgot that they do, haven’t done it for a while though, but Dean didn’t miss the fact that they still keep in touch because she told him when they came clean about their lives.
“Once every six month probably, yeah. We parted as friends.”
“Huh,” Dean exhales.
“Look, I just wanted to tell you because I don’t want you finding it out from someone else around here, okay?”
“I need a drink.” Dean says and turns to leave.
She grabs at his arm, hard enough to make him turn back around. “Dean.”
Dean clenches his jaw, he doesn’t say anything, looks past her head, his gaze lost in the crowd. But she doesn’t say anything either, just waits til the storm inside of him is over.
After a while, Dean lowers his face, his hands come up to cradle around her cheeks, thumbs tracing along her skin, “I’ll be right back. Wait, okay?”
“Okay,”
And with that, he’s off to the bar.
He once told her that he’d like to kill all the men before him because they have found her first but what would he do to someone who was her first sexual experience? She doesn’t want to know, hopes that it won’t be a big issue because they’re adults now, right?
Dean comes back about ten minutes later, cradles the back of her neck and pulls her into a kiss, “‘M sorry,” He says, and he tastes of whiskey. “I’m trying to change, try not to be jealous and think that everyone could take you away from me. Please be patient with me?”
Her frown disappears and instead, there’s a smirk on her face. “Of course.”
“Good,” Dean smiles back, pecks her lips once more, “Okay, come on, gotta parade you around.”
Dean takes her hand, drags her to Cas and Anna and she’s actually surprised that Anna still remembers her and she hugs her so tight Y/N has a hard time breathing. Brad’s not around so at least there’s that. Dean doesn’t seem to be irritated anymore, or maybe he’s just really good at hiding it.

In the evening, Dean’s helping Cas’ with something when she stands off to the side of the dance floor, smiles as she sees happy faces and some who are drunk off their heads trying to dance, when she hears a familiar voice next to her.
“Ah, I finally caught you alone.” Brad comes to stand next to her, his hands in his pockets, as if he’s a little shy, maybe he is, because they haven’t seen each other for such a long time. He hasn’t changed, still has a big grin on his face, that charming golden boy smile and he’s overall just really adorable looking, like he used to be. She hugs him briefly before they watch the dancers together. “You want a drink?”
“No, thanks.”
“Mind if I get one?”
“Why should I mind?”
“I just want you to stay where you are, can you do that? I wanna talk and catch up.”
She nods, “Yeah, sure.”
Brad nods back before he dashes to the open bar and is back before the song is even over. He sips his drink, holds it out to her and she shakes her head. “I forgot, you’re not a big drinker.”
“I just don’t really feel like it.” She shrugs, which is probably weird because they’re at the wedding. Eating and drinking is all people do here.
Brad stands there, one hand in his pants pocket and one hand holding his drink. “Never thought you’d know the bad guys, Y/N.”
She turns her head, looks at Brad. “You know what they did?”
“Yeah,” Brad says, “We’ve all known but Anna loves Cas so we turned a blind eye, as long as he didn’t pull us all in, we were good with the relationship. Not that it had mattered much. You know my sister, she’s as stubborn as can be.”
She chuckles, “Yeah. Remember how she was furious that we broke up?”
Brad rolls his eyes, “She blamed me even two years later. Said that I let the best thing that ever happened to me slip through my hands.”
“Awe, she was exaggerating.” She says and her eyes wander around, sees Anna and Cas on the dance floor now. Which must also mean that Dean’s around here somewhere.
“I don’t think she was,” Brad drinks up, “She was kinda right. I liked what we had but then your father died and you weren’t you anymore, you know?”
She nods to that, “Yeah, I know. I’m sorry.”
People are clapping their hands, applauding the band and soon they start up a new song.
“Don’t be. It’s understandable. It’s just if I could go back, I would probably help you more, you know? Not being so selfish and only thinking about my own future. Yours mattered too and you were hurt and angry and I wasn’t there.”
“Brad, really,” She says, putting one of her hands on the wrist of his hand that’s holding the now empty drink, “It’s okay. I’m okay now, ain’t I?”
Brad snorts out a laugh, “Yeah, you are. Quite the catch you got there, Y/N.”
She blushes at that.
“Say,” Brad starts, “Does he make you happy? I mean, are you happy?”
She’s a little taken aback by the question and she might take a little too long to answer because she spots Dean in the crowd. His eyes on her as he dances with Anna’s grandmother. The woman is all over Dean, pressing her face into his chest and Y/N couldn’t help but grin. Dean sees her too, most likely he did see Brad standing next to her either because a flinch of irritation crosses Dean’s face before he’s smiling at something the grandmother says. Dean winks at Y/N then before he continues to swirl the grandma along the dance floor.
“Is that him? With my grandma?” Brad asks.
“Yeah,” She answers with a smile.
Brad’s laughing, “Granny can get handsy, I hope he’s okay with that.”
“Oh, I think he’ll manage.” She joins in with Brad’s laughter.
The music stops and the crowd claps as the singer announces the first official dance of Mr. and Mrs. Novak.
Dean apparently manages to break free from Brad’s grandmother and he walks in her direction.
“Hey,” Dean greets them both and she sees that he’s met Brad before. Of course he has because he’s Cas’ best man and they probably went out for dinner and what not with the whole family already at least once. Dean probably even befriended Brad without knowing that he was her ex.
Dean weaves his arm around her waist, holds her there and pulls her towards him, kisses the top of her head. “You okay?”
She looks up and smiles, “Yeah, are you? Brad said that his grandma can be handsy.”
Brad’s laughing at the comment and Dean purses his lips before he says, “Well, she did ask me if I wanna join her for a drink in her room after the party, so.”
“You know,” Brad jumps in, “If I wouldn’t know my granny, I’d think that you’d be joking. But it does sound like her.”
“What did you say?” She asks Dean.
“Said I’m already spoken for by the prettiest girl around here.” Dean smiles, bends down to kiss her.
“Knowing her, she’d say that it was her, didn’t she?” Brad’s grinning, unfazed by their PDA.
Dean turns his head, rolls his eyes at Brad, “Yeah.”
The men both laugh and Brad starts to tell Dean other anecdotes about his flirty grandmother, and that’s when she thinks that Dean has changed. That he’s trying to change. Trying to get away from his usual jealous self. He trusts her, she knows. She has won back his trust and she’s very happy about that.
They watch the dancers for a while until a girl comes up and asks Brad for a dance. Dean wonders if she wanted to ask Dean first but saw that Dean’s arm is around Y/N and the girl wanted to save her face so she asked the next best guy around. Because the girl has been giving him eyes the whole night already. It actually really doesn’t matter, he thinks.
Brad accepts with a smile, leads the girl to the dance floor but before that, Y/N holds Brad back, “I owe you an answer,” She says, “I am. I hope you are too.”
Brad nods, “Good. And yes, I am, too. That’s all that matters, Y/N.”
They watch the girl pull Brad in the middle of the dance floor, smile as he spins her around.
“He’s a good dancer.” Dean says, is probably a little surprised how she could be so terrible when her ex boyfriend is so good.
She drives her elbow into his side, making Dean flinch, “What are you trying to say?”
“Nothing.” Dean knows when to stop. There will be no winner coming out of a petty argument. Instead he asks, “What did he ask you?”
Y/N looks up to him with a bright smile, “If I’m happy.”
“Are you?” Dean’s arm goes around her.
“Uh-huh,” She wraps her arms around his middle and Dean cradles her face, making her look up at him.
“Uh-huh?”
“Yeah.” She smiles.
He lowers his face, kisses her forehead, her nose, her lips. “Come on,” He then says, releases her grip and takes her hand, pushing his way through the crowd and she follows, no question asked.

Jasmine.
She smelled of white jasmine and faintly of freshly squeezed lemons.
The rich, honeyed scent clouded his senses as the group waded through crowds of passerby lining the walkway.
He felt her arm brush his for a moment as they walked side by side, his skin burning with the lingering feeling of her touch; being near her was intoxicating.
As they stood, waiting at the ticket booth, he strained every muscle in his body, scarcely resisting the delicious temptation of her presence.
His head was empty, filled with only the echo of her voice calling his name;
“Bokuto.”
Melodic, almost like a wind chime, jangling with a gentle breeze.

He felt himself grow dizzy as thoughts of her swirled in thick clouds within his mind, making it difficult to focus on the ground beneath him.

The gruff tone brought him back to the present as a smirking Kuroo blinked back at him.
“Sleepwalking, are we?
He gulped as he met your eyes, wide and doe-like as they curiously took in his poorly-hidden expression of panic.

“Y/N, you can let go of my arm now,” Yachi giggled quietly as you pouted at her, eyes pleading.
“Please, you can NOT leave me alone with him,” you whispered, sneaking a glance in his direction, “I have no idea how to even begin talking to him.”
She smiled knowingly; “Weren’t you two close friends for years? You have tons to talk about, a whole year to catch up on!”
“Yeah, that’s true,” you started, a crestfallen expression washing over your face as you shrugged, “I’m just not sure where to even start; there are so many words I want to say to him, so much I want to apologize for…” you trailed off.
“I need to let him know that I-” you broke off, eyes trained on the concrete below.
Yachi glanced around quickly before pulling you to the side as the remainder of the group helplessly stared at a map of the park.
“Hey,” she chided, tipping your chin up, “I know that this isn’t easy for you. And yeah, maybe it’ll be awkward and clumsy and uncomfortable for a bit, but isn’t this what you have been waiting for?”
“You finally have a chance to tell him how you feel, to let go of all those words and emotions bubbling up inside. Don’t let it go to waste.”
She squeezed your hand. “No matter what happens, I will be right here, and I’ll be so proud of you.”
You nodded, feeling the uneasy coil in your stomach begin to unwind as you rejoined the boys, who were now arguing over which ride to visit first.

“AKAASHIIIIIII!” a beaming Bokuto hollered, tugging his counterpart towards a row of booths, each lined with twinkling bulbs and jumbo plushies that hung above a different carnival game.
“No.”
“Come onnnn” he egged on, a Cheshire grin spreading across his face, “you afraid your ace will beat you?”
“We both know I would...” Akaashi sighed, giving up mid-sentence as he exchanged a glance with Yachi behind your back.
Yachi nodded at him as you turned back to her, noticing a sly expression creeping across her face.
“Yachi?”
“Yes?” The blond cocked her head to the side, the look of innocence in her eyes betrayed by the upturn of her lips.
You eyed her cautiously; “What are you plotting?”
She smiled sweetly, “Oh, nothing, I think I’m just in the mood to grab something to eat, what about you guys?” she called out to the rest of the straggling group.
Amidst calls of agreement, you chimed in, “Yeah me too! I’m starv—
“No, no, didn’t you say you wanted to try the booth games first? We’ll catch up with you later and save you something to eat!” Yachi grinned wickedly, pushing you towards an oblivious Bokuto.
“Wait-Wait what’re you—” you were cut off as Yachi shoved you in his direction, her and Akaashi smirking back at your identical dumbfounded faces as they jogged away after the group.
You thought you could hear your heart palpitating in your ears as you turned to face him, willing yourself to look him in the eye.
Meeting his eyes, you both blushed furiously, looking anywhere but at each other, Bokuto scratching the back of his head sheepishly.
“So, um h-how about we try out a game or two?” he smiled, his honey irises warm and inviting as they stared into yours.
“Sure, I’d like that,” you replied, gazing back at him with a small grin.
He beamed, suddenly grabbing hold of your arm gently as he began to jog towards a stand sporting a row of water guns. You stumbled after him, laughing softly as he pulled you into the seat beside him, handing a crumpled bill to the worker.
“You ready?” he asked, his eyes alight with a competitive fire.
“You bet!”
The bell sounded as the spray of your gun hit the target immediately, Bokuto’s mirroring yours, as you both squinted in concentration, your heart fluttering as his elbow touched yours briefly.
Ding ding!
“And we’ve got a winner lady’s and gent’s!” the worker boomed, pointing down at you as a look of surprise crossed your face.
Turning to Bokuto, you snickered as you saw his slack-jawed expression, your eyes crinkling at the corners.
“Don’t pout Bo,” you teased, poking his shoulder, “I’ll give you my prize, I know how much you love your stuffies.” you giggled, watching as his ears went red and his lips pursed, trying to suppress a smile whilst staring intently at his feet.

A dozen games and many plushies later (mostly won by yourself of course), you and Bokuto strolled side by side past booths glowing with a golden hue, the nectary smell of cotton candy wafting through the air.
Spotting a bench off to the side, you wandered over, plopping down with the giant bag of prizes propped between you.
The shadows of passerby began to disappear into the concrete as the sky darkened, only flitting between the glow of lampposts above.
Bokuto’s voice broke through the silent calm of the rustling breeze as he rest his elbows on his knees.
“I missed you, you know.”
His expression was wistful, almost nostalgic as he stared ahead.
You were quiet for a moment, letting his words sink in as you gazed out at the scenery before you.
“The pond.”
He turned his head; “What?”
“When we used to ride our bikes all the way out to the bridge overlooking the pond, just so we could eat our lunch while watching fish swim by, tossing in breadcrumbs to feed them once we were finished.” you laughed, your expression growing soft.
You continued, looking over at him; “And we would toss up the volleyball together, back when I could still keep up with you,” you added, “and you’d always hold me by the ankles over the edge when the ball would fall into the water” you finished, chuckling.
His face fell into a broad grin as he watched yours, studying your expression.
“Remember that one time I dropped you?” he laughed, “I thought you were going to kill me that day.”
A comfortable quiet settled over you, watching the moon glance off the glistening surface in the miniature koi fish pond.
“That’s what I miss the most.” you murmured, your vision blurring as tears clung to the ends of your eyelashes.
Bokuto relaxed back into the bench, sighing contently as he began to fiddle with the edge of his shorts absentmindedly, humming in agreement.
“Bo?”
“Yeah?”
You took a breath of confidence.
“I think I love you.”
The words hung in the air as the body beside you stiffened.
“You do?”
His voice was light, almost a whisper.
You nodded, eyes trained on your swinging feet.
“For a while now,” you continued, mustering the courage to look over at him.
“Ok.”
His expression was hidden by a shadow, unreadable.
You were silent, your heartbeat thumping in your head as panic settled in.
Before you could intake another breath, you felt two hands on the sides of your face as Bokuto slid closer, his body now flush with yours as he tilted your head up to his.
His lashes fluttered gently as his gaze flitted down to your lips, fingers tucking stray hairs behind your ear.
“I’m still in love with you.”
In an instant, his lips were pressed against yours, a hand snaking around the base of your neck to pull you in deeper.
You felt a tremor shudder through you as your mouths moved together, taking in the blazing heat of his hands across your skin, the plush feeling of his mouth, hot against yours.
Coming up for a breath, you panted softly, your hand caressing his cheek lovingly as you watched his warm eyes drinking in the sight before him.
You pressed your lips softly to the tip of his nose, feeling him chuckle beneath you.
His eyes bore into yours, bringing a pink tint to your cheeks with their intensity.
“Tell me you love me again.”
You shoved his shoulder as he chuckled, his amber eyes alight in the brilliance of the crescent moon.
“I love you, idiot.”

Don’t Make Me Choose
Ash Woodard ~ Prologue

Ashely "Ash" Woodard is what you would consider to be a "bad girl". Leather crop top, leather jacket, ripped skinny jeans and high heeled boots.
Her hair was cut in a pixie style.
She had a cartilage chain earring on one ear
and a cuff around the other.
She always wore her makeup dark when she went out with friends.
While it may seem like Ash is looking for trouble and looking to get drunk, that is the last thing she wants to do. Her mother taught her better than that. Ash was just the rebellious type. She would limit herself to one or two drinks, that's it. While she may sometimes break her rule and have two more, she wasn't stupid. She knew when enough was enough. The tingling would start in her fingers and she knew her body was telling her she had enough to drink.
Ash was 23 and lived with her dad in New York City. Her father was sick and needed to be taken care of. Ash only went out for drinks Saturday evenings. She never went out drinking on Sunday's or during the week days. Sunday's, Ash stays at home, taking care of her father and doing chores. Weekdays, she worked at the local bar, The White Snake.
It was just like every other Saturday evening. Ash laughed as she watched her best friend, Molly, take another shot. Ash checked the time on her phone. It read 12:00 am. As Ash took another drink of beer, she felt the familiar tingling in her fingers. She decided to call it quits.
"Hey, Molls," Ash shouted over the music. "I'm gonna head home now!" She shouted. Molly looked at her best friend. Molly was a lot like Ash, in the way that she never got drunk, only buzzed.
"Alright. You want me to walk you home?" She asked. Ash smiled and shook her head.
"Nah, it's all good. You stay here and have some fun." She said. Molly frowned.
"I'm serious. There's been reports of young women going missing around town. I want to make sure you're safe." She said. Ash patted her back pocket.
"Don't worry. I've got my trusty pocket knife in my back pocket." Ash said. Molly nodded, still not convinced, but she knew Ash was as stubborn as a mule.
"Alright. Text me as soon as you get home so I know your safe." Molly said. Ash smiled.
"I'll text you as soon as I get home, I promise," she said. She walked out. The eyes boring into her back as she left should have been her first sign. She left the bar and started walking home. Her high heeled boots clicked against the cement as she walked. The sound of a second pair of feet caught her attention. She stopped and turned around. Seeing no one, Ash shrugged and continued walking. She heard the footsteps again. Ash took out her phone and pretended to take a picture. She looked in the reflection of her phone, and saw someone following her. Fear filled her body. She reached for her pocket knife, only to be shoved against the brick wall of a building. Ash cried out in pain, dropping both her phone and her knife. Her phone showed the contact list. Molly's name and number ready to be called. Ash gasped for air as the man's hand held her up, his hand around her throat. She saw a man who was a little shorter than her, probably reaching her upper chest in height. The man smiled wickedly.
"Oops, my bad," the man said. He had a British accent. "I must have used a little too much of my strength." He said, laughing. He let go of Ash's throat, dropping her to the ground. Ash coughed and gasped for air. Instinct kicked in and she reached for her knife. The man kicked both it and her phone out of reach. He clicked his tongue, shaking his head in disappointment. "Uh, uh, uh. Not a good idea, Ashley." The man said. Ash flared up at the man.
"How the hell do you know my name?" She asked. The man smirked.
"Oh, I know everything about you, Ashely. And soon, you are going to experience the blessing of being immortal." The man said. Ash stared in fear as the man's eyes turned pitch black and fangs poked out. Then, black.
What seemed like an eternity later, Ash woke up, gasping and looking around. Her throat felt like it was on fire. She could hear better. The sounds of traffic a mile away. The alley cats fighting over food or territory. A mother dog feeding her pups. Her eyesight was better. Everything seemed sharper. She could see the faintest detail in things most people ignored. She saw the little bits of dust particles caught in the street light of the street lamps. She saw the cracking of the dried spray paint on the sides of the buildings. Her smell was much sharper as well. She closed her eyes and took a long sniff. A sweet scent filled her nose. Then, she was encompassed in darkness again.
Ash woke again and felt something wet on her hands and her mouth, running down her neck. Ash looked at her hands and nearly screamed. They were covered in blood. Tears filled her eyes as she saw what was laying before her. The bloodied body of her best friend. Two pairs of footsteps caught her ears. Ash whirled around and saw two men. One man was tall and well built. His hair was cut short and his face was chiseled. His eyes held kindness but also protectiveness. The second male reached the first male's shoulder in height. He was a little skinnier and lengthier. His long, curly hair reached his jaw in length, slicked back and tucked behind his ears.
"Are you alright, Miss?" The first male asked. He had a British accent, just like the male that attacked her did. The second male slowly and cautiously walked up.
"Miss? Do you remember any thin'?" The male asked. He had an Irish accent. Ash looked into the second Male's eyes.
"Herrick." She whispered, before passing out into his arms.

Dragon Dancer IV: Royal Fire
The plan was simple.
Chu Zihang understood the monsters enough to lead them to me. My job was simply to kill them.
I stood in the room he’d shared with Nono, facing the door I’d left propped open. Once again, I’d tucked Ru’Yi on my back. She’d stopped whimpering, completely unaware of the danger she was in. If anything, sitting and waiting here in the predawn dark made her incredibly bored.
Chu Zihang entered the ventilation duct in the room and crawled slowly so as not to raise his heart rate too far.
He was playing a game of keep away. As soon as we ran out of the cabin, where Nono and Mingfei were locked away, the immortal on the upper level immediately chased our footsteps and moved at high speed.
It only hunted by instinct so it immediately gave up the subtle heartbeats of Lu Mingfei and Nono and instead chased our louder, clearer footsteps.
More immortals gathered from all directions. Chu Zihang ran wild and fearless through the empty corridors and restaurants and ran back to the cabin where I was lying in wait.
He dashed inside and took a flying leap, gripping the edge of the ventilation shaft and shimmying his way inside.
I crouched, eyes narrowed.

The first immortal footsteps galloped louder and louder until it skidded into view on all fours and pounced. Its fangs flashed in its open maw. Its reptilian eyes were wide. Its tongue sprayed drool in anticipation.
My light spear skewered it clear through the head. It hung in the air, its claws lashing out at me. It was screaming and its screams turned into a sickly gurgle as the spear spun like a drill turning the inside of its skull into a mess of grey paste.
The smell of burning flesh filled the whole cabin. I seized the monster by its feet and dragged it behind the bed, leaving a long bloody smear on the floor.
The screaming and the scent drew even more of them but, much my surprise, the loud banging footsteps weren’t getting closer and instead hissing and growling filled the hallway.
They were fighting each other.
Like predators thrown into a cage, they were each trying to assert some sort of dominance as to who got to the food first, unaware that they were actually fighting over who got to die.
Eventually, scraping claws and snarling grew close, two beasts rolled into view one had its teeth on the other’s neck. I extended my hand and fired two light spears into both their heads, drilling into them until it was so hot that steam rose from their skulls. They lay in the hall, freshly killed.
There was no more growling or hissing in the hall. Instead there was silence except the clicks of claws on metal.
I blinked. They weren’t coming? My eyes widened. Where was Zihang? If they were blocking the hall, he couldn’t return here.
I swore under my breath and dove into the hallway. The monsters saw me and stood upright. I flung light spear into one and as soon as I did, the other monsters shrank away, eyes wide, bodies crouched. The impaled monster collapsed to the ground and the living beasts fled down the hall. I pursued them shouting. “Zihang! Zihang! They’re running from me!”
I came to a fork in the hall and stopped, listening. I couldn’t hear him at all. My heart pounded. Did he die? Was he dead? I didn’t want to keep shouting, fearful that I might overwhelm myself with predators. I could hear footsteps echoing somewhere towards the stern. But I was afraid to turn the corner and meet with an immortal.
I pressed my hand to my chest, calling my ethereal twin. “Ielia...”
Ielia was my biggest secret. She was me but from another dimension. We’d grown up together as ballerinas. But lately we’d become estranged. Her world was still ruled by dragons. She venerated them. And she could not help me if I was bent and determined to kill the dragon kings she worshiped.
But things were clearly different now. She appeared floating in front of me like a ghost, her robes lifting around her like she was underwater.
“I need you to scout around the corner for me.” I whispered to her.
She nodded and turned and floated away.
As soon as my glowing white twin came to the fork, she was pounced on by a massive creature. It was muscled, built like a bull. It attacked Ielia like a cat teased with a laser pointer and she float around him to turn his head in my direction.
The light spear pierced its skull. It kept running around in a circle before it fell over, it’s legs kicking about as it tried in vain to kill an ethereal manifestation. I waited until it lay still. Ielia vanished.
I peered around the corner, walking through blood and leaving bloody footprints in my wake. The sounds of footsteps suddenly turned into a horrible crashing sound and I broke into a run. “Zihang!” I called.
The hallway grew larger and I saw that I was headed toward the the ship’s engine room. The door was smashed off its hinges and I ran in expecting the worst.
Much to my surprise however, Chu Zihang stood among the thick mist, having opened several valves.
He turned to me and smiled until a muscular arm came out of the mist and grabbed him by the neck.
The immortal rose up, lifting him off the ground. He was a rhinoceros of a creature, covered in horns and bony spikes and with muscles like steel cords. He roared in triumph!
Chu Zihang struggled in desperation to get free and I raised my light spear.
Ru’Yi suddenly began to cry. I turned and looked behind me. The sharp claws of the immortal that had pierced Nono and nearly gutted Lu Mingfei came at me so quickly I had to throw myself to the side. Still, the claws rubbed against my neck. If I had been a millisecond slow it would have cut my throat.
My baby daughter had saved my life.
This monster was faster. Its claws dragged the ground and yet it was like a serpent went it struck. No matter how I moved. I couldn’t move faster than this one.
I dodged left and right, barely escaping each time. I tripped over a conduit wire in the fog, lost my balance and fell.
The monster suddenly stopped its attack. Its stiff lips lifted in grin, displaying needle teeth.
It was playing with me, like a cat playing with a mouse. It was having fun. He looked at me like prey. Its golden eyes were dazzling.
I still had one trick up my sleeve. I took a deep breath and shouted. “Release!”
I’d never used my release ability on anything but Hybrids and Death Servitors. I had no idea what using it here would do. These creatures were practically full blooded dragon men.
I aimed the full force of this ability at him. The beast roared in pain and lashed out blindly. I rolled to dodge and it smashed its head into the metal wall, leaving a deep dent.
As I backed away, I heard a low slow chuckle.
The other elephantine monster was watching its fellow’s struggles with some amusement, jaw dropped in a grin, and didn’t notice when Zihang lifted his hand and placed it on his head. It turned to Zihang, tilting his head like a curious puppy.
The air suddenly filled with a strange and dangerous aura, a pulse like the beat of a gigantic heart!
Zihang’s eyes opened, filled with a lava-like light deep within them. The massive creature let out a short howl and fell to its knees. Light shone from his skull, as if he had a crystal head with a lamp burning inside.
Chu Zihang’s feet touched the ground and he stood quietly in front of the monster, keeping his hand firmly pressed on the beast’s forehead, looking like a priest facing a confessor. The body of the beast also became transparent, as if there was fire burning in its body from the inside out, but no flames emerged.
The clawed monster pulled its head from the dent in the wall and watched in horror as the body of the larger beast broke like molten steel and turned to ashes. After a moment, only a burning red skull was left in Zihang’s hand and the massive monster seemed to disappear with the wind, leaving only the black skeleton.
He’d completely burned the brain of this beast with Royal Fire.
I felt a burst of joy, like the sun coming up over the horizon, throwing the light of day over a part of my heart that had sat in the cold and the dark of an eternal winter night since Christmas Eve.
A connection, soul-to-soul, snapped together like two celestial bodies finding each other’s orbits. I felt his heart beat, the sigh of his wistful emotion.
Unable to contain my relief and ecstasy, I cried out to him. “Zihang! We’re here! We’re all here!”
