A family friend is studying in itsly and she brought me some genuine italian roma tomatos, and i just ordered seeds for red candyland cherry tomatoes, all inditerminates!!
I also ordered these seeds for this year:

Onions
Marigolds
Pink and red nasturtiums
Saphyr blue flax flowers
And i nabbed some hollyhock pods from my neighbours alley hollyhocks!!! Free seeds
Ill be doing container potatoes again this yr too bc last yrs fucked rly hard, oh and lettuce bc it grows rly well here!

just domestic moments in the winchester household:
every morning, whichever one of them is awake first is in charge of making the coffee and getting started on something for breakfast. regardless of who joins who, dean always greets cas with a 'good morning, sunshine' and a sleep warm kiss.
the one thing castiel misses most about being an angel is his ability to heal, so when dean gets headaches he does the next best thing: he lies down with dean in a dark room, with dean's head in his lap and eyes closed, and he gently rubs his temples, sweeps his hands through dean's hair, soothing touches to ease the pain he can't take away. he'll do it until dean has fallen asleep or until a soft smile spreads across his face and he tells him his headache is gone.
post chuck takedown jack passed along his god powers to the next best and decided to live his life as an actual three year old, so he lives with cas and dean because he's their son of course. every night jack always gets a story read to him before bed time. cas and dean switch off who reads to him every night. they both are good at doing voices for all the characters, and cas starts letting jack read a page every so often so he can practice his reading. before leaving the room, they each give jack a kiss on his forehead, and cas tells him 'goodnight, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite' which always makes jack giggle.
they have weekly family dinners with sam and eileen, usually on sunday's but if that doesn't work they'll always reschedule for some other time during the week. they all go over to one of their homes and cook something delicious that tastes like home and they sit around the table together eating, talking, laughing. dean usually offers to bring dessert (read: pie) but eileen is a whiz when it comes to baking so occasionally dean will let her make something instead.
at least once a month (sometimes more) they get the whole gang together for a cookout. dean, cas, jack, sam, eileen, jody, donna, claire, kaia, alex, patience. it's usually at dean and cas's place because they have the best grill and a really nice backyard firepit that dean built, and also the lake, which the girls and jack love to swim in when it's warm enough. dean mans the grill with jody, and sometimes claire pops over to help, cas and sam chop up the fresh vegetables from cas's garden for a side salad, dean has a couple different pies in the oven, donna brings some homemade moonshine which has one hell of a kick but somehow tastes damn good, and it's just a really good time all around.
tuesday's are game night! they usually let jack pick the games, and he has a certain fondness for candyland, so 9 times out of 10 that's what they play. they also usually let jack win, although they don't actually have to do that as often as one might think; jack is pretty good at board games. when it comes to games between dean and cas, cas has one hell of a competitive streak, and he'll stop at nothing to win. he's not above playing dirty ;)
thursday's are movie nights! they rotate who gets to pick the movie and dean makes a big bowl of popcorn and they squish together on the couch under the huge blanket that sam and eileen co-knit for them for christmas. jack likes to wiggle his way in between dean and cas and hold the popcorn bowl in his lap. more often than not he ends up falling asleep during the movie. sometimes cas does too, and dean can't help but watch his family snoozing with a fond smile on his face until he too falls asleep.
when the weather is nice, they like to take their little canoe out onto the lake and float around. jack loves to lean over the edge to stick his hands in the water, and cas will sometimes bring a book. dean will stick his sunglasses onto his nose and bask in the sun. cas will only tease him a little bit for the sunglasses tan he gets from that (but he'll help him apply aloe and firmly remind him to use sunscreen next time)
cas has a garden, and he loves spending time tending to it. jack adores helping out, he even has his own tiny pair of gardening gloves, and cas will patiently teach him how to plant a seed or how to carefully pull the weeds. on hot days dean will bring them big glasses of cool, sweet lemonade or iced tea and he'll not so subtly snap a few cute pictures of cas and jack in their matching sunhats.

The Royal Report– A Crown of Candy Ep 1
There Is Strength in Sweetness 
Much like the years, the seasons of D20 start coming and they don’t stop coming. Fantasy High: Sophomore Year is barely in the record books and we’re already jumping into our new season--the Game of Thrones/Candyland mashup: A Crown of Candy!
If y’all have been with me since Sophomore Year then you know that I did very in depth recaps of every episode with a very specific format but I’m gonna try something new for this season.
The format might change a little between episodes as I figure out what works best so bear with me but the plan is to do more highlights and opinions than a blow by blow. But, like, we’ll see what happens.
So, anyway, saddle up your Meep and let’s visit Candia--one of the six kingdoms of the land of Calorum (aka: a fridge. We see you Brennan, it’s a fridge). Twenty years ago, the Ravening Wars wreaked havoc but they’re currently in a time of peace which (mostly) everybody is psyched about.
Meet the Family
This is not a new observation but, while most seasons of Fantasy High focus on found family, this season is all about family-family, specifically, the royal family of Candia and their associates. 
We’re first introduced to Murph’s character--Sir Theobald Gumbar (Level 3 Eldritch Knight)--who is the a huge, golden-armored, gummy bear, leader of the Tartguard, protector of the royal family, and the logical endpoint of Murph’s lawful good predilections. Sir Theo is, of course, on time with bells on for the big Saint’s Day/Coming of Age birthday party for the twin princesses of House Rocks. Unfortunately, he’s clearly never seen The Little Mermaid because when the heralds announce the princesses, they don’t show up. Frustrated, he goes to try and find them.
The first place he checks is with Zac’s character, Chancellor Lapin Cadbury (Level 3 Celestial Warlock). He is (in no particular order) the royal tutor, a chocolate bunny, an official of the main state sanctioned church of Calorum (the Bulbian Church), and a pompous ass. Oh, one more thing? He and Theobald can’t stand each other. There is nothing funnier than two very proper grown men who hate each other's guts. Sir Theo shows up to his classroom where the princesses are having a lesson--or at least they’re supposed to be. Further inspection shows that they’ve just left two straw dummies in their place. Classic.
So, we pan out to the city to meet my favorite characters so far (I absolutely play favorites but I also disclose when I’m doing it so I think I’m in the clear) the twin princesses/chaos gremlins--Jet and Ruby Rocks (both level 1 Rogues) played by Emily and Siobhan. Theo may not have seen The Little Mermaid but the twins have def seen Aladdin, because their number one pastime seems to be escaping the palace to roam the city--hilariously illustrated when they chuck a gem into a peasant's bag and his reaction is a super nonplussed, “Guess the princesses escaped again.” They’re got the Disney Princess-itis really bad because both of them feel stifled by palace life and want more--specifically, Jet wants to be a warrior and resents having been born in peacetime (especially since she’s slightly older and in line for the throne) and Ruby wants to run off and join the circus as an acrobat. They are total twin BFFs to the point that their Thieves Cant has been reskinned to Twinspeak which is a detail I love so much (and that will become unspeakably tragic if something happens to one of them Brennan). 
Jet gets a letter from her secret crush Thad, an Avocado from Fructera (these are the sentences I am being forced to write this season folks) and schemes with Ruby about how they can get to Comida (the capital city) to meet him--possibly by sweet talking Theobald which is easy because he’s so thirsty for respect. Sure enough, Theobald and Lapin soon find them, following their path of destruction and the princesses are brought back to the castle.
Back at the castle, we’re introduced to Lou’s character--King Amethar Rocks (Level 3 Storm Herald Barbarian)--who is having a somber moment, surrounded by the statues of his four older sisters who died in the Ravening Wars, leading his reluctant taking of the throne. He’s interrupted by Lord Calroy (his right hand guy and a full ass talking slice of cake because Brennan is trying to break me this season but I refuse to give him the satisfaction) who lets him know that his daughters have escaped and his delighted reaction immediately lets us know which side of the family they take after.
Finally (at least wrt PCs), we meet Ally’s character--Liam Wilhelmina of House Jawbreaker (Level 2 Ranger) who is a political prisoner/ward of House Rocks and a soft, outdoorsy, mountain kid who is perpetually followed around by his pet pig--Peppermint Preston whose death will absolutely force to me to Google “Best Denny’s Parking Lots for Fistfights.” He misses his dad but not his dick brothers because Ally isn’t allowed to have a fully happy family in any season. Liam is from the disgraced House Jawbreaker and his brothers seem to expect him to try and off the King while he’s in their orbit. While he’s in the woods, looking for seeds (as one does) he finds and accidentally breaks an important looking teacup, which we’ll get back to.
The other important character we meet this episode is an NPC--Queen Caramelinda, mother of the princesses, wife of Amethar, and keeper of 100% of the impulse control of House Rocks. She’s the main disciplinarian to Jet and Ruby, the clear decision-maker in the kingdom, and the only literate one out of her and her husband. She also seems to be the only character that respects Lapin’s authority. 
An Inciting Incident
So, with all our characters assembled, all that’s left is the plot hook which Caramelinda provides in the form of a personal letter from Emperor Gustavo--the head honcho of the entire realm and his old friend--to Amethar. He’s not doing well health-wise and he needs to name an heir that’s not related to him at a big tourney that he’s personally inviting Amethar to. Amethar is a little slow on the uptake but Caramelinda eventually connects to dots for him that it seems very likely that Gustavo is going to name him emperor.
Amethar is not vibing with that information at all but Caramelinda basically holds him by the ear until he reluctantly agrees to go--though he insists that Ruby and Jet also come along to keep him company. Caramelinda only agrees on the condition that Lapin goes with. She also invites Liam (who is caught off guard but game) and Sir Theo is basically going by default. Caramelinda is staying home to hold down the fort but the talking slice of cake is going because Brennan hates me and doesn’t want me to be happy. 
The traveling party is chosen, the twins have been gifted with sick, inherited weapons from their aunts: Flickorice--the Twizzing Blade (Jet) and Sourscratch--the Puckering Bow (Ruby). It’s almost time to be off, but there’s still one last thing to get to before we leave the twins’ party. 
Lapin, feeling the pull of something broken (told you we’d get back to it) subtly makes his way outside, but is followed by Jet and Liam. Now, if you remember, I said earlier that Lapin is an official of the Bulbian church. Which is why it’s so surprising for Jet and Liam to see him talking to the Sugarplum Fairy, a deity of the Sweetening Path--a non-sanctioned more animistic religion that really only has sway in Candia. He fixes the teacup and then she appears, telling him that he’ll need to be wary once he leaves her sphere of influence and that boldness will be required in the days to come. Lapin, who seems to be having this conversation very begrudgingly, asks if she’s asking him to do anything in an official capacity and she smiles and says that she’s not asking for her third wish(!). Then what does she want? She wants him to know that there is great risk in what he is doing, but not acting is the greater risk. The coming challenges will be great, but he must protect the royal family or all is lost. She wouldn't have used her second wish to bring him to them if that weren’t the case. They hustle back and spill this to Ruby, obvs.
Anyway, onward! The next day, the caravan is set up and--with a warning about a sugar free chocolate warlock (ominous, as sugar free chocolate always is) they’re on their way to meet their escort out of Candia. Ruby decides to do her acrobat thing and is hanging out on top of the carriage instead of inside it as she and Jet “subtly” (read:not at all) bring up the Sugarplum Fairy to Lapin to see if he cracks.
Suddenly, the caravan stops. There’s a tree felled in the path, which really only means one thing in this kind of story. 
Ambush.
Ruby, outside of the carriage and unprotected, takes 16 points of damage and is fully down with a failed death save due to some unknown effect. The carriage is riddled with arrows. 
Everyone rolls for initiative and that takes us into a new (sure to be recurring) segment I’m calling:
Things I’m Concerned About
I’m concerned about Jet and Ruby (and not just because I’ve been worried about Ruby for a while due to things the cast has said and because she fully *died* this episode). They have their genres so wrong. They think they’re Disney movie protagonists but they’re in Game of Thrones and they don’t know it. Being Wrong Genre Savvy is a BAD position to find yourself in. Carriage surfing shenanigans don’t fly in a world that wants you dead.
OK, Carameinda. I’m inclined to be pro-Caramelinda. Like, she’s the hardass but she needs to be because Amethar isn’t helping run the kingdom. If this was a different story, she wouldn’t give me any pause but I read Macbeth and feel some light Lady Macbeth vibes. Gonna be keeping an eye on her.  
Calroy and Sir Toby (didn’t mention him, he’s a slightly lower ranked Gummi Bear guard and friends with Theo). In a story like this, I’m looking for the possible betrayals before I get blindsided and the only people who can really betray you are people who are supposedly loyal to you. Calroy had a little aside with Amethar about how he shouldn’t be the Emperor if he doesn’t want to be--which isn’t wrong but is also something someone angling to keep him off the throne for other reasons would say--and Sir Toby decided to stay behind to help hold down the fort--again, either an innocuous decision, or angling to be left alone and to his own devices. 
Whatever is going on with the Sugarplum Fairy and Lapin? Do not care for that one bit. I understand that a Warlock pact is mechanically very similar to a Paladin oath and a Celestial Warlock pact is even moreso but guess what? Still don’t trust it. I know Ruby’s Arcana check said that she’s generally a chill spirit but I still don’t trust it. And getting Wishes from your follower? Weird and suspicious. What’s your game, lady?
Emperor Gustavo apparently has a daughter who is barred by law from taking the throne when he dies. That sounds like a very strong motive for *something* at some point down the line. 
I’m a little concerned Jet is being catfished by this Avocado. First of all, not a sentence I thought I’d ever write. Second of all, I’m probably just being paranoid. But that feels like a great way to get a princess alone for kidnapping or shanking or something. 
Update: Brennan did an AMA and, regarding the previous bullet point he said, and I quote, “You are right to be concerned!” so now I’m concerned about that too! Fun!
I’m concerned about the mechanics of how a slice of cake person works. Slice implies a full cake. Where is the rest of the cake Brennan? Where is it? And, like, Brennan said on the post-show stream that we’re making the “what do they eat?” question weirder than it actually is because we’re made of some of the stuff we eat but hey Brennan? If I could pick a flesh toned and textured apple off a tree? That would be weird, OK? And I’m sorry for everyone else who had to picture that but it had to be said since Brennan is insisting on walking us down this garden path.
I’m concerned about whatever the hell is happening with Liam. Disgraced dad, mom is a shaman of the local fringe religion (Sweetening Path, like Lapin), and his brothers want him to shank the king or something? No way this ends in smiles for everyone. 
Brennan said Pyramid of Food so I’m concerned about fruit rollup mummies. 
OK but more than anything, I’m concerned about the death rules of this game. Death in D&D is cheap but, in a campaign like this, it can’t be. I’m not super well versed in GoT but it’s my understanding that resurrection in that series is possible but rare. Brennan said he specifically didn’t let Ally stock certain healing spells and that’s very telling about how things are gonna be handled. I guess we’ll see in the upcoming battle episode how that works but my general thought is, I hope everyone made interesting backup characters.  
Five More Things
So, my thoughts on the new characters. I love Ruby and Jet with my entire heart. Watching Emily and Siobhan roleplay sisters and enable each other and hype each other up is so fun--or it would be if I wasn’t low key bracing to lose one of them sooner rather than later. Zac playing against type and Murph playing to type are both fantastic. I want nothing more than for Theobald and Lapin to continue sniping at each other. I hope that’s the first PvP fight of D20. Amethar is a lot of fun but clearly in over his head and I’m interested to see where he’s pushed. Liam is literally just vibing. Hope he doesn’t have to commit regicide!     
God, the House Rocks PCs are such a disaster family. I love it. The moment when Calroy comes in and is like, “The princesses have escaped,” and Amethar breaks into a grin and is like, “Dude, that’s so dope!” I was like OH, so it’s *all* of them, huh. But, honestly, this should have been on the “Things I’m Concerned About” list because come on. They’ve not all gonna make it. And then we’re gonna have to watch the remaining family members react to that? Oh no. 
Love Ruby’s bow. I have a player in my game who also has a magic bow that produces energy arrows because, truly, who has the time to deal with the logistics of how many arrows you had left after last fight? Magic arrows. Boom, done. Next. 
Getting bagged on by your Patron for not having a spell when she’s the one who gives you your spells is so funny. Also, Mending isn’t a Warlock spell which makes it even funnier. 
**I’ve given myself a 3k word limit on all of these to try to put some boundaries on myself but, Lol, prize to the first who guesses closest to the first episode I break that rule.**

Madoka Magica Anniversary Analysis: Part 3
The part where the fanbase lost their heads.
(spoilers for the show if for some reason you haven’t watched it in the 10 years since it came out.) 
We open in Kyousuke’s hospital room with Sayaka hiding just outside the door for a moment while she gathers her courage. Kyouske is happy to see her and her gift of CDs, offering to share the earbuds. It’s clear from her reaction to that Sayaka has a crush. It’s clear from Kyouske’s reaction that he is completely oblivious.

We get a flash of a much younger Kuouske performing before a concert hall while a young Sayaka watches. We cut back and Kyouske is looking away from the camera (and Sayaka) it doesn’t hid his tears. A shot of his bandaged hand tells us all we need to know. (Cue Connect)
After the opening ends we launch immediately into Mami conjuring her giant cannon, winking at the camera, and blowing away a hapless familiar. Sayaka complements Mami on her showmanship but she reminds her that what they are doing is dangerous. Madoka comments on the lack of Grief Seed.
Kyubey explains that since what Mami just destroyed was not a witch but rather a familiar that got separated from its’ master. Thus destroying it yielded no profit. Sayaka comments that it seem they’ve been fighting a lot of duds lately. (presumably off-screen) Mami asserts they can’t simply let lone familiars be as they can eventualy become witches themselves. (Quite neatly this gives us an origin for witches to throw us off from the origin of witches)
Mami asks the girls if they’ve settled on what they want to wish for, prompting Madoka to as what it was she wished for. Mami stops cold prompting Madoka to withdraw her question. But Mami is ready to share her orgin story regardless. Kuybey appeared before her in the aftermath of the car accident that killed her parents.

She didn’t have time to think and made a contract to save herself. (I have to point out how creepy Kyubey if framed in the scene with his shadow falling across Mami’s face) Mami says that she doesn’t regret it as the alternative was dying, but Madoka and Sayaka have a choice and time to mull things over so they ought to think carefully.
Sayaka asks if the wish has to be for themselves. Madoka immediately cottons to this being about Kyousuke despite Sayaka’s denial. Kyubey says of course someone else can be the target of your wish. Mami say she doesn’t like the prospect asking if Sayaka want that persons wish to come true of if she wants that person to be indebted to her. Sayaka is chastened (for the moment).
Mami reiterates that this an important decision that they shouldn’t rush into though as far as Kyubey is concerned the sooner the better. 
Back at her home Madoka is mulling over her options, stumped by what to wish for with Kyubey saying it’s against his rules to offer suggestions. Madoka floats the possibility of simply wishing to be a magical girl. Kyubey asks if what Madoka wants is power. Madoka initially waves the notion of but then reconsiders. In her view she’s weak and lacking in talent, the possibility of becoming someone like Mami would be enough for her happiness.
Kyubey reveals that in his estimate Madoka could be vastly stronger than Mami. While power varies depending on the wish Madoka has higher potential than anyone Kyubey has encountered before. Madoka demures and their conversation is interrupted by a knock on the door.

Junko has come off badly from Japans terrible workplace culture and it’s mandatory after-work binge drinking. So Madoka is called upon by her dad to help her too bed. This prompts Madoka to ask her dad why Junko loves her job when working at that particular company was never her dream.
 Tomohisa says that it’s not so much the job itself that Junko loves, rather the chance to test her drive and find satisfaction in her accomplishments. It’s that drive that keeps her power through even when there are parts of her job she doesn’t like. Madoka is intrigued by the idea of a dream not being an single even but a way of living. 
Meanwhile Mami meets Homura in a deserted plaza. Homura opens on an aggressive note by chastising Mami for putting civilians in danger. Mami counters that those “innocent civilians” have been chosen by Kyubey. Homra cuts to the chase Mami is leading Madoka and Sayaka towards being Magical Girls, and that she objects to Madoka specifically becoming one. Mami draws the wrong if understandable conclusion that Homura is threatened by Madoka’s potential. Mami makes it clear that the next time the two of them meet it will be as enemies. 
The next day the hospital elevator opens on a disappointed Sayaka. She rejoins Madoka in the hospital waiting room. Kyousuke isn’t seeing visitors today it seems. On the way out of the hospital Madoka notices something, a Grief Seed. According to Kyubey it’s about to hatch. Unfortunately they don’t have Mami’s cell number so the decide to have Sayaka watch the Seed with Kyubey while Madoka goes to fetch Mami.
After Madoka leaves the Grief Seed pules one last time and the barrier goes up. The new labyrinth is a mix between a hospital and candyland but it’s denizens don’t seem to be hostile yet. Kyubey reminds Sayaka that were she to come up with a wish he could make her a Magical Girl right now. Sayaka defers for the time being.

Madoka returns to the scene with Mami in tow and opens the door into the labyrinth. They gets a status update from Kyubey and Sayaka immediately, the witch remains dormant for the time being. Kyubey suggest to keep the magic to a minimum and walk to the center of the maze without provoking it’s occupant. 
After they enter it’s soon apparent that once again Homura was following, much to Mami’s displeasure. Homura say’s she will handle things this time. Mami says that Sayaka is in danger and that she is unwilling to trust Homura, then she cuts negotiations short by uses her ribbons to bind Homura. Homura protests that this Witch is particularly strong, but Mami doesn’t seem interested in hearing about it.
As the sneak through the labyrinth Madoka tells Mami that she has been thinking about her wish, what she desires more than anything else is to help people. To simply become a hero like Mami will be enough to satisfy her. Mami tells her once again that the life of a Magical girl is hard. She gets her often and has little time for love or friendship. Madoka says that she still wants to be like her, prompted Mami to finally lower her mask.

“Nobody should become someone like me. I’m just acting cool, but I have no one to talk too when I’m scared or sad... I’m force to cry alone. Being a magical girl really isn’t that great.”
Tragically Madoka tells Mami the one thing she wanted to hear. She’s not alone anymore, she will fight alongside her. Mami tearfully takes her hands, but then on a lighter note says Madoka should still find something to wish for, putting to her a faux ultimatum. If she can’t think of something else by the time Mami has defeated the witch she’ll wish for an extravagant cake to celebrate them becoming a magical girl team.
Then the witch begins to awaken and it’s showtime. Buoyed by the prospect of someone by her side Mami makes quick work of the familiars. The Witch herself well..
She doesn’t cut the most imposing of figures. Mami smacks it’s doll-like form around a bit before calling forth the largest Tiro Finale yet. It’s not very effective as some kind of giant clown worm erupts from the dolls mouth and then

The ribbons binding Homura dissolve. In the process seeming to turn to blood. Homura is horrified, she know what just happened. Mami is gone. 
As Madoka and Sayaka look on in horror Charlotte devours the body. Kyubey seemingly frantic calls on them to make a contact to save themselves. 
“That wont be necessary” says Homura. While a Charlotte makes a valiant effort to chomp another magical girl all she gets is a mouth full of bomb. The explosions rip the Witch apart leaving behind her Grief Seed and a broken teacup full of blood. Homura tells Madoka (and Sayaka) to burn this moment into their mind, this is that fate of Magical Girls.
As Houmra picks up the Grief Seed Sayaka tells her it belongs to Mami, futile as such a statement is. Homura says that such things are only for magical girls. Madoka is in her grief unable to speak. Then Magia makes its’ debut as the series true ending theme.
Needless to say this episode blew everyone away and spawned a ton of memes when if first came out. Indeed Mami’s death still dominates the discourse around her character and the series to a lesser extent even 10 years later. 
But much like another prominent beheading victim it’s not like it was totally out of left field. While the marketing paints Mami as one protagonist out of a group of four in the show itself this isn’t really the case. Like papa Stark Mami takes the roles of a mentor to the other girls, and the mentor types have a tendency to bite it before their time.

Weekend Update, Admittedly a Bit Late
I am in a mood today, so forgive me for just brain dumping.  Hoping it will improve my outlook.
Well, we put off both sushi-making and counter-refinishing this weekend because Saturday was going to be (and was) so, so nice.  We did get sushi from Q-Mart, which satisifed me just fine.
We were on a hunt for dwarf cherry trees, but the overall pickings for fruit trees of any kind are pathetic right now. I suspect everyone is gussying up their back yards right now, hence the shortage.  Failing that, I’ve since ordered something called a “columnar apple tree”, which we should be able to grow in pots in the back.  We ordered one so far, and will get another -- of a slightly different variety -- once they’re back in stock, so they’ll be able to cross-pollinate.
Picked up some additional goodies for the garden, and filled up those five garden bags I got off Amazon.  Really liking those, I think next year I’ll get more of those instead of the buckets.
So right now we’re growing the following: Regular tomatoes (x2) Candyland tomatoes Red bell peppers (x2) Eggplant (x3) Zucchini Cucumber Pinto beans Corn Jalapenos Tobasco peppers Watermelon Acorn squash Onions (still not sure what kind, but I guess we’ll find out!) Parsley, Oregano, Basil and Catnip Sweet mint and chocolate mint Lavender Citronella Strawberries Plus the resident blackberries, raspberries and blueberries.
We still have the fig tree, and it still appears to be alive, but it’s in an extended dormancy.  It would be nice if it leafed out and sprang back, but we really don’t know what’s up with it.

The new garden bench arrived as well, so while Marc was assembling it I scrubbed the old one back to a nice bright white and we brought it over to my Mom’s, along with a big hanging flower basket for the front.  This weekend we’re going to go over and install some white lattice around the front porch, and I’m going to power-wash the siding. You can see a certain pride of home ownership in them now, which feels nice.  Jim wanted more flower baskets because a neighbor across the street had some out, and he needed to show them up.  Her veggies and herbs appear to be doing pretty well, too.
Their freezer came in yesterday!  We brought it over and got it all set up, so some time this week I’ll probably take my Mom to BJs to stock up on Stouffer’s meals, which she is already excited about.  She’s really keen to use it, which makes me happy.  She’s also going to go through all her Christmas ornaments and sort out a smaller quantity to keep so that we can sell the rest.  I actually plan on doing the same with ours tonight.  More room in the attic, less to fuss with at Christmas.
Jim is not walking very well, in part because he’s 86 and in part because he absolutely refuses to do any kind of exercises or physical therapy that would actually help him regain some mobility.  He’s finally conceded to a transport chair, so I spent quite a bit of time researching and pricing them.  They sell basic ones at Walmart for like $150, but he’s 6′2″ and with long legs, so most anything “regular” doesn’t fit him.  It also has to be collapsible and light enough for a 5′1″ woman (that’s me) to get it into and out of her trunk without too much hassle.
  I (think I) finally found one that will fit him comfortably, however, and now it’s on order.
With any luck he’ll like it more than he hates it, and we’ll be able to take him to the lake and for little outings.  At the worst he’ll despite it but he’ll suck it up for short trips to the doctor.
The greenhouse arrived today as well, and Marc has snuck off to start the assembly ahead of some expected wind and rain.  We’re also waiting on the delivery of a small fountain / water spout for the front pond, as the original is really at the end of its lifespan.
Oh, that’s the other thing!  While we were out looking for cherry trees we found a “bird feeding station” at one of the nurseries.  They’re normally between $400 - $500 online, but this one was just $220, and I talked them down to $200.
Basically it’s an iron arbor with some miscellaneous bits and pieces to hold bird feeders.  Instead we installed it in the back, straddling two of the blackberry beds, and are using it to hang any veggies that we don’t have room for on the ground (as well as the catnip, to keep it from getting loved to death.)

The berries are coming along nicely, in a bit of a bid for who wants to ripen first.  Marc helped me assemble some home-made bird scares out of CDs, tin-foil and laminated brightly-colored paper with drawn-on eyes.  I hope it works, although once things start ripening I may need to keep a closer eye on things.  I am highly suspicious of birds.
Just the same, I cleaned out two of our old feeders, bought two more, and we filled them and hung them out front for the birds to enjoy.  Maybe if we keep them fat on seed they won’t fuss around in the back (although I suspect Fidget has a lot to do with that as well.)
It’s been really nice to see the garden growing... little plants I had doubts about are getting tall and plucky.  They love to grow.  Sometimes we just like to walk around and check on everything, identifying the new bugs that are showing up to pollinate or just live in this tiny ecosystem we made.  My cityboy husband marvels on the regular how much he’s learned, and how much he loves the garden, its maintenance and care.
I have been having some... health frustrations for the past year and change.  They’re not serious, that I know of, but they have been greatly affecting my sense of self and well-being, and as time goes on and they don’t resolve it’s just getting more and more stressed out.  The only medical solution may be worse than the problem itself, so I’ve spent a lot of time today trying to get hold of a doctor or counselor or someone who can point me in the right direction, and won’t just keep giving the same trite advice without actually running tests on me. I almost bit the bullet and took the damn pill they were recommending, but upon calling the pharmacy discovered it’s almost $120 a month.  For something that 1) May not work and 2) May actually make me feel worse. Yay. 
So no.
I have a virtual visit with an endocrinologist on the 22nd, so we’ll see how that goes.  I’m tired of feeling like I’m living in someone else’s body, and that everyone’s response is basically to shrug and say, “Oh well, guess you should just suck it up forever.”
Today I made some banana applesauce muffins, and they were good.

0-1: So, okay, what happened in this campaign? Well, a tragic loner veteran, an exuberant trans girl, a justice delinquent, and a cult victim walk into a bar, and by a bar I mean they contract with Incubators for various reasons. Then, sometime later, they all get together to form a super-team at the behest of one of those Incubators. The good one, not the evil one that summons monsters. That one, they fight against. And then they finish that fight, and kill it, but a) new player Seina decides to contract during the fight, and b) it turns out it can survive the death of its body and it’ll be back soon to cause more trouble.
2: Right after that fight, though, the cult victim, Makoto, falls unconscious because of some kind of magic thing, and so the team carries her body to the nearest safe place they can think of- the trans girl, Sakura, has an aunt and that aunt has an apartment. Unfortunately, someone very spooky shows up at the apartment, and the good incubator, Tama-chan, urges them to run the fuck away. They do so more or less successfully, but have to clue the aunt in on the subject of magic. Also, the evil incubator, Nishi-chan, shows up and... uh. Helps them escape, and heals Makoto, which is suspiciously non-evil of her.
3-5: Also suspiciously non-evil of Nishi-chan is her telling them that there’s a safehouse they can stay at, which they go to investigate. Problem there is that there’s a witch, who they have to fight. Ibara fails to get mind-controlled and they win, but then the very spooky girl shows up again and shoots a giant ghost shark at them. They escape into the safehouse, but the safehouse belongs to someone. After Sakura trashes the place for reasons, Nishi-chan convinces them that the witch they fought is the owner, and if they hand over the Grief Seed, she can revive her. They argue over this but then do it, and Reiko revives! Woo! Except she’s mad about Sakura trashing the place, which Sakura tries to solve with hugs. Doesn’t quite work, and after staying the night in a spare room, they get kicked out.
6: After that, Tama-chan shows up, and some exposition happens. Apparently, yeah, you can revive magical girls after they witch now! But unfortunately, you can still use the seeds, and that kills them for good and also forces you to take on the victim’s remaining personal problems. And that’s what the very spooky girl, Yoshe, does, along with their friends. Tama-chan warns them not to fight the cannibals, but they’re all like, hell no! Also, the justice delinquent, Ibara, drops some backstory. Then they go home.
7-8: Later, they go to school and oops there’s a witch there. They fight it, with the help of a new MG named Emiko and a rude incubator named Fumi-chan, and revive Orino from the seed. Afterwards, they get some friends up to speed, and then after school decide to try making some magic items. That’s interrupted, though, when they have to rescue a new magical girl (Anzu) from a crazy monster cannibal (Sokoko). After they do that, Tama-chan shows up and tells them how the cannibalism works, which is so distressing that, uh... uh-oh.
9-10: Makoto witches out, and they have to go to space and fight aliens and UFOs to save her. It’s rad. After, Tama-chan exposits more, and then there’s a beach episode. 
11-13: Then, they decide to go witch-hunting to get some old-fashioned non-resurrectable Grief Seeds to control their Trauma accumulation and prevent another Makoto from happening. Unfortunately, what they find is Emiko, who turns out to be a supercannibal in cahoots with Yoshe and... well, she calls herself Kimiko, but the tragic loner veteran (Yukari) recognizes her as Honoka, a big scary murderer from her backstory. They get in a fight, and Ibara witches, oops. The fight is super crazy, especially when there is a twist and they have to fight two witches actually. But they manage to survive, and take one of the cannibals hostage.
14-15: As a followup, they, uh... round up all their families and other loved ones and cram them into Reiko’s underground bunker so the cannibals can’t use them as leverage to psychologically fuck with them, which was the plan and the basis for like the whole campaign I had planned. Also, they interrogate their prisoner, Yoshe, and find out that if you witch enough times you become an Incubator. Yikes. Also, they play Candyland and it gets out of hand? And by out of hand, I mean Sakura witches and they have to fight her. There’s some fallout from that.
16-17: Then they go to the hospital for... some reason? I forget. Completely can’t remember why they were even there. They meet Kimiko-Honoka there, though, and they’re about to get in a fight when suddenly someone shows up. It’s a survivor (Cho) of the cult that abused Makoto, begging forgiveness but also still being a cultist and being super uncomfortable to be around. Makoto witches again, and Kimiko-Honoka helps because they took Yoshe hostage and having them die would be bad. Then they do some weird science to the corpses of Incubators, and then there is a heartwarming Christmas special.
18-20: Then they go to space. Nishi-chan tells them there’s important space shit up there, which turns out to be a secret orbital Incubator base. Nishi-chan, who’s not evil, reveals that she and Tama-chan are magical girls who hacked the Hell Engine (read: evil thing that powers magic with suffering) that they keep in this base, and she needs their help to try again and make magic suck less. They go inside and fight a demon as part of a ritual to fix magic, but it gets fucked up when Ibara witches and merges with the demon. They fight it, but in the chaos the Hell Engine sort of breaks and falls out of the sky and crashes into Tokyo Bay, which Sakura and Makoto have to use some crazy supermagic to keep from being apocalyptic.
21-24: They save some people from the space rock and prank Emiko, and- while Yukari is busy getting arrested for financial crimes, Sakura and Seina check out inside the Hell Engine and meet a real Incubator, which they have a tense conversation with resulting in Seina witching. They fight it, which results in the Incubator going insane and vanishing for reasons, and then deal with the emotional fallout. And go through a lot of trouble just to pay rent. And then there’s emotional fallout from that, too.
25-27: Then, for absolutely no reason, they magically engineer a giant rocket space pelican and go to the moon. They bring along Orino and the imprisoned Yoshe, which goes poorly when they forget Yoshe (not in magical form) needs to breathe. Also, Orino runs away to live on the moon. BUT THAT’S NOT EVEN THE CRAZY PART. The crazy part is that, uh, Yukari and Ibara corner the Devil herself, and kinda-sorta-befriend her and take on a quest from her. She lays down some exposition, and everyone kind of panics about this. Good news is, though, the Hell Engine is a source of infinite magic, which they can use to craft overpowered magic items. 
28-29: Then there’s a fun guest-star witch that they hunt. During that whole thing, they meet an elusive NPC who hates incubators, and manage to sorta befriend her (and her useful mind-reading powers.) Then, Yukari and Ibara go shopping and don’t get knifed, and Makoto tries to reconcile with Cho. Sakura goes and spies on the cannibals, who pose a threat to their fun new Devil plan, and Ibara befriends the landlord. 
29½-30: Also, their prisoner escapes, which is bad but not that bad because Makoto power-of-friendshipped her into taking a neutral stance. Yukari reacts poorly to this, and also takes advantage of their mind-reading friend’s powers to uncover a shocking twist to her own backstory, which she also reacts poorly to. Other people also react poorly to the news. In response, Makoto tries to run damage control, and everyone more or less manages to calm down.
31-33: Calm down enough to GO TO THE FUCKING MOON FOR NO REASON AGAIN!!! Or- not no reason, they notice Orino’s up there doing some crazy terraforming and are concerned. And maybe it’s for the best, because Kimiko and Emiko also noticed that stuff, and also went there, which leads to a Big Fight. During said big fight, oops, Sakura witches. Which was sort of the plan, to trap the cannibals in Sakura’s barrier and take them down that way, but this was a lot more impromptu than planned. Both Sakura’s witch and the party gang up on the cannibals, and they get the upper hand right up until a mysterious person shows up to break up the fight. Things go south, and Kimiko witches, after which the team finishes off Sakura’s witch and revives her to help deal with the new witch.
34-37: They work on the barrier here, which belongs to Honoka’s witch, not Kimiko’s- this being a symbolic purification of Honoka, who was a very bad influence, from Kimiko, who wasn’t a saint to begin with. Then they finish the fight and rather cathartically destroy Honoka, but oops, Emiko isn’t letting them have the seed. Some negotiations take place, and they head back to Earth. Sakura makes plans for the future, and Makoto goes to negotiate further with the cannibals, getting them to agree to attend a peace conference now that Kimiko’s no longer kinda-possessed by a homicidal maniac.
38-41: The peace conference is held, and it’s pretty successful! The Devil intimidates them with eldritch horror magic, and that plus good arguments and emotionally-savvy conflict resolution gets them to agree to the Devil’s plan to instantiate Madoka in exchange for ending grief magic. Afterwards, they release their families from the bunker, and Makoto ties up a loose end in the form of Anzu’s abusive dad. Also, the whole team gets together to tie up another loose end in the form of Sokoko still being all fucked up on souls. After they fix that, they meet at Sakura’s aunt’s apartment to discuss strategy.
42: Then they save the world and it’s the end.

Happy Monday!
That’s right, we actually got around to publishing a changelog post on the first monday of the month again. Yay us! Quixol’s staff have been hard at work over the past 2 months, fixing bugs and keeping up with the business of the server- we’ve gotten around 100 new players since we last checked in with you all in one of these posts. Wow!
One of the most significant changes to mention in this post is the re-introduction of a marketplace to QuixolMC- Port Tourmaline! Ghalea finally has a place to go to buy & sell goods, and we couldn’t be more excited. It looks like you all were pretty excited, too, because it took just a week for every last player shop to be rented out... wowee! Apologies to anyone who’s been looking to open a player shop, we’ve been doing our best to make sure players are actually actively maintaining their shops.
Not server-related news, but we also have a new page on our blog, the market guide. Check it out if you’re curious how the economy works on QuixolMC-- we recommend you do, because it’s pretty fun earning & spending shells on stuff!

List of known bugs/issues:
! Player inventories saved in 1.11 - 1.12 (in the world Protos) may have shulker box data corrupted. undyed shulker boxes turn into purple shulker boxes, and any items inside shulker boxes may lose all of their NBT data. ! When you are killed by a mob you recently hurt, the death message just says you were killed by [a bunch of hearts], due to a mcMMO bug ! mcMMO doesn’t give you alchemy exp for making slow falling potions ! Changing factions permissions for containers / doors does not seem to work ! Several other bugs in Factions ! Peculiar bug with items in cursor slot disappearing in the inventory? Has only been reported once; unable to reproduce ! Some players have reported their mcMMO levels being reset/lowered? Has only been reported once; unable to reproduce ! Being killed by another player counts as a “killed by [mob]” in statistics, but killing another player will not increase this statistic, only dying to other players counts ! Peculiar bug with mobs (usually animals) held in pens suffocating in surrounding blocks. Potentially related to mob pathfinding ! Standing still on top of a boat in water will deplete your hunger very quickly for some reason(???) ! New player jingle is broken ! When making a quickshop into a double chest, then breaking it to make two single chests, it still thinks the shop is there, regardless of whether its told to be deleted with commands or manually broken in survival.

That about covers all the changes! As you can see, we’re still rocking that new format for these changelog posts. It’s not quite as meaty as our previous one, but still a lot of text to read through. If you have any suggestions for how we can improve it, let us know!
The staff worked very hard on Tourmaline, and we really hope you’re all enjoying it. Of course, if you have any feedback to give about the market, or anything else on the server, we’d love to hear it- whether it be in the #feedback channel in our discord or elsewhere.
While we’re here, we figure it might be good to give a reminder: running a shop at the market is a big responsibility, and it’s up to you to read the market guide and understand how everything works (as well as the rules for running a shop!) before you rent. You also need to make sure you’re active on the server so you can keep up with renting the shop, respond to messages about your shops, restock everything you sell, etc.

What do you think the Seeds’ favorite board games are? Jacob strikes me as an absolute slut for Risk, personally.
Jacob is an absolute slut in general but yes he definitely loves risk.
Joseph somehow sneaks the Bibleman board game into literally every single bunker in the county and, while stuck with the deputy, pulls it out anytime the deputy even mentions being bored. They stop mentioning if they’re bored after the 5th time.
John conquers all when he manages to con someone into playing Monopoly with him. He only ever gets people to play with him once before they refuse to get near the game cabinet.
Faith likes candyland because it’s a simplified Sorry but with a sweeter color scheme. She’s the only one people don’t mind playing with.
