Ok but on the subject of Ethersea aus. Superhero AU.
Zoox is a shapeshifting swarm of aliens. Like a sentient hivemind that can work together to change shape. Maybe he lives off of UV rays or something more arcane depending on what type of comic book world you’re building. His swarm is still only like 2 years old, and he probably spends a lot of his civilian downtime trying to blend in with the earth folks. Tentative hero alias: Swarm (duh)
Amber is just Amber. No change. No hero alias. I don’t think she would ever seriously do the superhero thing. She probably just saves people randomly several times and becomes famous for it.
Devo is the product of a super dubious quasi government superhuman training program. He’s probably the only successful case from the Benevolence Program (just playing with names), and maybe it was supposed to be just mind control telepathy they gave him, but instead they gave Devo some reality altering level type of powers. He probably is gambling on the superhero level fame making the Benevolence Program hesitant about disappearing him. Tentative hero alias: Siren Song
I think Cambria’s Call would be the easiest to adapt to the superhero genre, but ethersea in general is pretty much already playing with that whole Fantastic Tales deal.

Other Tgirls, I have an assignment for one of my last college courses which is audio production. I haven't made music in years and highly prefer FL Studio to Logic Pro, but I have to make a few songs over the course (The first of which is due in about a week). Tips? Tricks? Especially for just getting a song started? The type of music I like is prog rock and just rock in general (Coheed and Cambria, Pink Floyd) and the type of stuff I've made in the past was... A lot more synth based and I guess house/EDM kinda roots. Ty in advance

Post-hardcore supergroup L.S. Dunes have dropped their second stand-alone single of the summer, “Old Wounds“. As with this past June’s “Benadryl Subreddit“, this song was produced by Alex Newport (The Mars Volta, Fudge Tunnel) during a recording session at Ranch De La Luna in Joshua Tree, CA.
Guitarist Frank Iero (also of My Chemical Romance, commented:
“‘Old Wounds‘ was a song that Travis brought to the band a while back. In getting ready for the upcoming desert session, Anthony came back around to it and ended up singing an incredible melody over it. After hearing Anthony‘s voice on that song, it was pretty obvious what needed to be played over those existing melodies. ‘Old Wounds‘ definitely feels like it represents the cold nights out in the desert for me and it might be one of my favorite songs we have done as a band.”
Vocalist Anthony Green (Circa Survive, etc.) added, “‘Old Wounds‘ was inspired by something I thought that I had lost that I actually needed to let go of.”
Guitarist Travis Stever (Coheed And Cambria) shared:
“The way everyone drifted into this song and brought their own energy was one of the most organic and natural approaches to songwriting I have ever been a part of. From the initial instrumental ideas to the vocals Anthony added, all the way to the production, it just flowed. Like we had a road map for where the song would go already. The feelings it derives from me, and the continued layers make it possibly my favorite song I have ever been a part of writing.”
The group will remain active on the road throughout the fall, having been booked for the below run of shows.

hiii! im [insert name here]: a stereotypical AuDHD trans girl who still hasn't settled on a name yet-- my life isnt... going well rn, but tumblr makes it a bit more bearable and every little bit helps.
im a trans fem, more specifically i like the term demigirl- which feels like it fits me. im also ace(ish), by which i mean im ace but pretty sex favorable- just don't experience sexual attraction. im also very gay and have the best partner in the whole entire universe (they said they were gonna join tumblr soon- so ill at them here once she does.)
oh yeah and my brain is funky. im a peer reviewed (and officially dxed, but im an advocate of self diagnosis) AuDHDer- which informs basically everything i do. i also have a bunch of the mental illness stuff, and have struggled w it a lot. idrk or care what the exact diagnosis is, spend enough time around insane ppl and you learn a lot of the specific labels are pretty arbitrary and a lot of symptoms are shared- i just describe myself as fucked in the head or legitimately insane

even though im solidly gen z, i havent really grown up on the internet the same way. some weird combination of my parents' disapproval of it, social anxiety, autism, and not being allowed to use it for years means that ive had this fear of posting stuff on the internet. for so many people like me the internet has been a place to escape and be themself, to me it's more often than not just a reflection of a reality that seems just as scary and ostracizing.
the thing is... i dont have a lot of friends. i dont have a large community really. and i think though there are some ways in which my aversion to social interactions including those on the internet has been helpful, there are other ways it's really isolated me- both from my peers and a broader community of people.
so im trying to put myself out there a little more. this stupidly long intro post is i think just a way for me to commit to that for myself. ive been so scared of doing it all my life, right now i think i just need some sort of outlet to be myself. who knows? maybe i'll even meet some new friends.

The X-Files Season 1, Episode 5: Jersey Devil
The production value on this show reminds me of mid 90's shows like the Outer Limits reboot that happened around this time. Something oddly comforting to me about it. Plus Mulder and Scully's voices is oddly relaxing to me. Anyway, Jersey Devil eh? Oh, I was mistaken on the title of the Coheed and Cambria song, it's Devil in Jersey City. Awesome song though. Old timey dude and his family get a flat in their old timey car, he gets dragged off, and the cops shoot the thing coming out of the cave, as they are wont to do. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Pay-phones and phone books make an appearance in this episode. Remember those? I do, because I'm old. Mulder getting information from homeless folks is pretty good, and he even starts to look schluby after a night of living on the streets, that's wild. Not nearly as wild as him looking at the bigfoot with tiddies! Oh my god this shit had me dying
Another observation, Scully keeps that thang on her. I think Mulder only pulled his piece out in the pilot, but Scully brandishes the blicky like she's on Instagram Live with Ja Morant. Mulder also looks like he's about to get some toppy from a Geico caveman woman. Hair dreaded like a Phish fan. Probably smells the same, and this fool is all "she's beautiful." Anyway, the local law kills her and she so conveniently falls and kicks up debris from the woods floor on her naked ass. Gotta love network TV censors. Surprise, there were feral kids too. Anyway, it was an alright episode. I do like the idea of humans not being at the top of the food chain. Bigfoot with cans had me laughing so hard I had to pause it. Also it's nice that it's not an alien episode. Next episode is Shadows. Doesn't seem it's about shadow people.

3. Direction by Mat Kerekes (feat. Anthony Green) - so this is a track off the debut solo album of Mat Kerekes, singer of beloved emo band Citizen. The guest vocals are by Anthony Green of Circa Survive. But what I really wanna talk about is the production, bc this is the first record I listened to that really made me aware of Will Yip. This is an acoustic record, really stripped down and organic sounding, and Kerekes plays all the music except for some percussion provided by Yip - it all sounds so bright and airy. The guitar tone has this gorgeous twangy pop, the percussion sounds like someone slapping a pattern out right next to your ear. Admittedly, this is probably so high up on the list bc it was on a playlist i made when i went insane and wrote a 90k word fanfic earlier this year, but still - love this song, love this record. The Anthony Green verse at the end is so dramatic and good "I could be anything that you wanted / I wouldn't mind if you handed me a loaded gun / Crack a smile while you turn the safety off / I'll destroy anything that you want me to / Help me try and understand what you're going through"
15. Ladders of Supremacy by Coheed & Cambria - I'm not here to convince anyone to listen to Coheed bc I don't think anyone should. They just happen to be my favorite band (derogatory). However, in their extensive catalogue this track still manages to stand out - by being the exact thing they do really, really well. It literally always works on me. I'd consider this song the first part of a three part suite that closes out the record (a concept album, per usual). There's an incredibly sexy bass line on this song, a great chorus, kinda filthy bluesy guitar work, and a shockingly jazzy drum performance from Josh Eppard. It's just peak Coheed prog bullshit and I'm so weak to it. So, this Coheed album is the second part of a record that came out in 2019 and it's about a kid who uhh perceives all of time at once? And also his parents who are sci-fi bank robbers/theater performers? Who the fuck cares. "Stay down, boy, see, ya got clowned, boy" is Typical Claudio Nonsensery but the delivery is so fun. Down BWAAH see ya got clowned BWAAAH
55. Wear U Down by Teenage Wrist - I Am Not Immune To Shoegazey Alt Rock. Actually I was surprised tracks off this record weren't higher in my play count this year, bc I feel like I listened to it a lot? I don't have as much to say about this - great fuzzy guitars, love the snare tone. "I'll wear you down, down down" is not a very articulate or impressive chorus, but it sure is fun to sing along with in the car. There's a great lyrical book end in the first verse and the last that goes "Stomp me out / I'm burning red but now I'm done" and then later "Stomp me out / Before I burn another hole" and who among us hasn't poorly ashed a cigarette and found this relatable?
out of these three songs I'd say the biggest gothic powerful vampire energy is probably teenage wrist. but that's grading on hard curve.
out of my whole top 100, biggest gothic powerful vampire energy is When Will God's Work Be Done by Unto Others. This is a GREAT song - big Sisters of Mercy But Heavier vibes. Very goth adjacent imo. This vocalist is incredible. He makes all kinds of great noises - OUGHHHH! HUAAGHH! AUUH! GAUGHDD! WHEN WILL GOD'S WORK BE DONE! Anyway very vampy lyrics + a great evil laugh at the end - "Working all night in the burning dark" / "When a man dies, I feel alive" / "Death, such sweet release" / "Make sure the first bite is the last bite" - yeah! easy win.

i loooove trainstory so much... was curious if there was like anything that inspired it or anything? i just luv the kinds of concepts ur introducing they feel so unique
SMILING this is very high praise… as blunt as i can put it trainstory is just a commixtion of Everything I Like because i quite literally started conceptualising it like “alright i’m gonna make a narrative that i can twist in any way i like and in ways that will cater to me in the highest degree” however i think i can name some things for like. individual facets
formatwise it was originally based on a dream i had like 2 years ago actually! of a very shitty video game interface that was segmented into squares with retro geometric badly-rendered textures and there was like a portrait of an unrememberable character in the corner and a huge box for text that scrolled. a few months ago i got both into like 90s/early 2000s online hypertext fiction and also ergodic literature and that kind of evened out ccs’ text heaviness and elusiveness into something solid i think… visually as an end product i also imagine it to be one of those classic mixed 2d-3d games with super gritty pixelated textures and really ugly but endearing character models and whatnot. dare i mention games like p.athologic and b.ad day on the midway as encapsulations of that vision. also a lot of visual inspiration comes from just going through the archive for the internet ray tracing competition theres good stuff in there
the first thing i figured out about trainstory settingwise was just that itd be on some eternal train ride in some way. that was mostly just because i wanted to write something set in a very closed space with a lot of room to develop a ‘community’ of characters. and also to examine isolation and how people cope differently about it… i specifically wanted to go for many characters finding solitude preferable and satisfactory because it’s an uncommon thing to see in media. i think i just chose a train because it seemed quaint… it was initially meant to be a space journey of sorts playing on the blend of sea/space exploration. this angle of it was heavily influenced by coheed and cambria’s afterman albums and from them the concept of the keywork, a random space structure housing a bunch of ghosts. this eventually lead to me kinda considering something more fantastical so i decided to make it more about weird dimension travel instead. i’ve always liked strange dereality-influenced structures in my stories hence the construction of the fornax reality. the sci fantasy angle just came in as a natural evolution of this i think, i was just very fascinated by the idea of allegorising magic to code. there’s lots to say here but it’s mostly a mix of me wanting to do anachronistic close-to-earth-times technological fantasy and me just thinking up conceptually funny things to incorporate into the setting whenever i could
characters themselves have so many individual references it’d be like unwieldy to mention them all here. but the common thread between them is weird autism and brainweird that mostly stems from my own behavior LOL i got sick of not having characters who struggled with expressing and naming emotions and had the capacity to be overly angry and mean… huge part of ccs is also just miscommunication out of characters making assumptions and crafting narratives and having grudges and like. i focus on these kinds of nuances under a kind of sympathetic lens as these characters learn to progress and collaborate with one another. the sympathy is very important
a lot of characters also came from me melding different characters i liked and whatnot. like freya is a distilled version of “weird girl with godly powers who can be rude and self-righteous to the detriment of herself and others around her” which is probably my fucking favorite niche character archetype of all time. or isel as “absolute failure of a man using word of mouth to present himself as something grandiose and important” or peixin as “guy tortured by fucking visions”. sometimes it’s even more niche like valerie was just based on various fighting game girls i found cool and i was like alright what if she was a vampire too. a lot of characters were also inspired by specific songs and albums but uhhhh that’s delving into playlist talk which will unleash so much autism in me.

jeff... thought the pamphlet was some stupid fake thing, or worse, an elaborate scheme that the dean came up with to get him alone - so he was fairly surprised to find himself awake on the ship. he’s still pretty convinced he’s had another concussion or that he’s the fake jeff living in real abed’s head. either way, he’s confused and he doesn’t like it and when he said he’s ‘never stepped foot out of colorado’ he didn’t mean this.

the study group whole again, even if its in space and in the future, and most likely all inside abed’s mind.
