Sparty started her Christmas Crisis early this year, and hasn't kept food down for almost 48hrs.

She seemed good today - until 16:30 when the vet's office closed and she ejected four hour old boiled chicken under my workbench :)

#otherwise she seems fine - no fever and not lethargic apart from discomfort and tiredness #for the past two nights shes been waking us up every 3hrs :)) but less in the daytime #so we'll see #holding back solids tonight and sticking to broth and maybe a teaspoon of yoghurt which she usually handles well #just to get something into her #shes not super lean rn but last time she had a stomach bug it lasted a week and digestive kibble made her MUCH worse #if she gets worse im calling the vet in the morning #but im not optimistic on that either bc i know step 1 is 'you have to give her a week on this prescription food her stomach is NOT used to'

I'm feeling salty so I'm just gonna say-

If you can't handle the idea of feeding live prey to something.

Do not get a pet. That requires you. To feed it live fucking prey. There are SO MANY OTHER OPTIONS!

Also don't be that fucking weirdo who goes on other people's socials and bitches about how it's "inhumane" or "gross". They'd be doing it out in the wild. It's a little something called nature. And no, you cannot find an "alternative" for your mantis.

It's a MANTIS. It is like. One of the most famous predatory insects. It is infamous for eating its prey alive.

If you're going to be a little baby about feeding live prey. Then get a pet that doesn't need that. And shut the fuck up.

#keese draws #rain world #rain world survivor #rain world monk #just impulsive slug cat practice mostly but I also have been wanting to draw them #I wanna try my hand at making fun designs for some of the others so I needed to get my baseline first #I wanna go for more rodent vibes than cat but not too much so #I also wanna draw some of my other slugcat biology hcs but no promises I’ve been going thru it lately #oh yeah and I do imagine most slugcats as completely hairless so no fluffy arti sorry y’all #she does get the closest to having actual teeth of all of them tho so that’s a win for her #well ok all slugcats kind of have teeth but they’re more like small spines that line the front of their mouths #they don’t chew on food tho the teeth are for tearing bits of food off of things #carnivorous slugcats have bigger spines that more so resemble teeth but only in the sense that they’re much larger and easier to see #they also very much hurt more although usefulness in combat is often limited #as getting a good enough grip on a moving target ain’t easy #in fact these big ol teeth are more meant to be used for trapping prey while they like beat them to death or smth #but with larger prey becoming most carnivorous scugs main food source they don’t get used that way as often anymore #in my minds eye way way back slugcats used to be egg predators but as more and more dangerous predators started being common they adapted #a much more omnivorous diet with most of their protein coming from bugs #and hey now they eat bug eggs full circle Babey

Watched this mourning dove walk on top of his partner to feed her like 15 times. My dude that is so unnecessary. Just land on the opposite side of the branch.

I like to wonder about, if hunger was a real issue for th journalist, what alternatives there could be to sauce. I read somewhere you can eat tree bark. and they ate coral on that one episode of spongebob. fungi edible? 🥺

i think it's implied that basically all of the plants on snaktooth are either extremely poisonous or are somehow made up of some weird snakmatter stuff (so that'll include the bark too ig), also im pretty sure coral is like super toxic (for humans tho, idk about grumps lol). Shelda says that the eggshells from the egglers are actually safe to eat tho, so there's that!

Dashi listens to nightcore. She also got Peso into it. Honestly I feel like the two of them are both into pretty much anything—Dashi has a preference for pop, and Peso definitely likes symphonies, ballads, and anything that's chill and lofi.

Dashi also listens to hard rock and heavy metal in her spare time, and it disorients the heck out of whoever witnesses it randomly come on in her shuffled playlists. When picking up an escaped quail yesterday, I realized how much larger my g3 and g4 quail are compared to the ogs. This has actually created an unanticipated problem where the ogs are inadvertently getting bullied solely because their offspring are almost twice their size and push them off places. Either need to make them a retirement pen or find them homes that don't mind a lack of eggs. On the flipside, I introduced some 3 week old babies into the colony to get more color variety in there and only 1 gen3 hen took a chance to pull rank (guessing she's low on the totem pole) vs 2 of the og hens. So they're getting bigger but they're also getting better mannered and nicer.

#my bird talks #I'm pleased with the size/temperament improvements in a few generations #I'm not the fastest or largest breeder #I'm very reluctant to breed a lot because I'm not big on culling #as I don't eat the culled birds and no longer have animals that would eat them #I do compost them so they go back into the bugs/soil/plants if I need to do a mercy cull for medical reasons #and I do sell [live] BBQ packs to others who would like a nice quail dinner #but the amount of food they eat/space they take up/noise vs $ isn't worth raising them up for other people #I already have at least 4 roosters from the test hatches #Biggie is a SLB with a fantastic temperament/size #shame about his color #but if he stays nice and quiet I plan to keep him as a spare breeder #the other 3 aren't anything special #there are 5 that are not feather sexable - hopefully 3 or 4 are hens #2 are very strange dilutes so I'm hoping they're hens
