Here are some companies that strongly support Israel (but are not Boycott targets). There is no ethical consumption under capitalism and boycotting is a political strategy - not a moral one. If you did try to boycott every supporter of Israel you would struggle to survive because every major company supports Israel (as a result of attempting to keep the US economy afloat), that being said, the ones that are being boycotted by masses and not already on the organic boycott list are coloured red.

Missing pronouns and double-entendres
Historians have traced the roots of country music at least to the 17th century, but the “big bang” moment for the industry didn’t happen until the 1920s.
In 1927, record producer Ralph Peer traveled from New York City to Bristol, Tennessee to hold recording sessions with “hillbilly” artists from the surrounding areas. The Bristol Sessions, as they came to be known, introduced the world to artists like Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family, foundational figures in what we now call country music.
That same year, in New York, an artist named Ewen Hail recorded “Lavender Cowboy,” a story-song about a boyish figure “with only two hairs on his chest” who takes on a group of outlaws and dies a hero’s death. Adapted from a 1923 poem by pulp writer Harold Hersey, “Lavender Cowboy” appeared in the 1930 film Oklahoma Cyclone and has since been covered many times, most notably by Vernon Dalhart in 1939.
A couple years later, the Prairie Ramblers recorded “I Love My Fruit,” a Western swing-style novelty song so ripe with double-entendres that the group recorded it using a pseudonym. Attributed to the Sweet Violet Boys, “I Love My Fruit” is gloriously homoerotic, with lyrics that extol the virtues of (among other things) chewing on banana skin.

youtube
The 1960s saw the emergence of Wilma Burgess, a mainstream star who wasn’t able to be out but also never hid her identity. A protege of prolific producer Owen Bradley — who saw her as a potential successor to Patsy Cline — Burgess insisted on recording songs where the love interest was not referred to by gendered pronouns. When she did occasionally record songs addressed to male lovers, she did so under the agreement with Bradley that her next recording would be a song of her choice. Her songs “Baby” and “Misty Blue” both cracked the top 10, and she still holds the record for the most charted singles by a gay country artist.'
youtube
Burgess left the country music industry in the late 70s, but she remained active in Nashville’s queer scene, opening one of the city’s first lesbian bars in the early 80s.
Queer country music’s “lost pioneer”
No queer country history would be complete without the story of Patrick Haggerty, the man responsible for what’s widely considered the first openly gay country album, Lavender Country.
Haggerty grew up on a dairy farm in rural Washington, the sixth of ten children born to hard-working parents. Despite growing up in the repressive climate of the 50s, Haggerty has said his father was accepting of his sexuality, which was evident from a young age.
After getting kicked out of the Peace Corps for being gay in 1966, Haggerty decided to devote his life to activism, becoming involved with the Gay Liberation Front. His anger over the injustices of the era became the basis for Lavender Country, the 1973 album that would define his legacy.
The album, which Haggerty recorded with his band of the same name, is scathing and often funny, featuring would-be classics like “Back in the Closet Again” and “Cryin’ These C**ksucking Tears” delivered in a loose, folky style.
youtube
youtube
With the support of the Gay Community Services of Seattle, 1000 copies of Lavender Country were created, advertised in gay periodicals, and sold at gay bookstores. Despite the limited number of copies, the album attracted a fair amount of attention in the gay underground. “Lavender Country” played at Seattle Pride and other gay events in the region.
The band disbanded in 1976, and Haggerty thought his music career was behind him. A self-described “screaming Marxist b***h,” he became further involved in activist circles, later co-founding the Seattle chapter of ACT UP and running for Seattle City Council and the state House of Representatives as an independent.
the article goes into more, like Lang's Shadowland

Jane Asher and Gawn Grainger as Juliet Capulet and Romeo in “Romeo and Juliet” presentation while being on tour in the USA, 1967. Part 2. 🩶
Previously posted pictures with my old username, updating it with the new one.
Old Vic Brings First Spoken Drama to The Music Center. By Cecil Smith. Los Angeles times— March 5th, 1967.
It seems a curious bit of scheduling to have the Bristol Old Vic in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of The Music Center, opening a three-week season of Shakespeare Tuesday night. The company is doing the first spoken drama ever performed in the new complex and it arrives on the threshold, the very eve, of the twin openings of the new theaters designed primarily for drama next month. Not that the spoken word is a stranger to the Pavilion. Some of the more interesting musical plays produced there, notably "Fiddler on the Roof," have been as dependent on their dramatic as on their musical structure. And if the Pavilion is fundamentally a music hall, still the verbal music of Shakespeare can be as stirring and compelling as any instrumental or vocal music ever devised. No one plays this music better than a British ensemble and among the great companies of England the Bristol Old Vic is considered one of the best. No less an authority than Sir Tyrone Guthrie says it is among the world's finest acting companies and that its managing director, Val May, is an immensely vital force in the English-speaking theater.
Suited the Action
Sir Tyrone suited the action to the word by staging the production of "Measure for Measure" that opens the BOV season here. May directed the production of "Hamlet" that enters the repertory Thursday and the "Romeo and Juliet" that will open next week. The three plays will rotate through March 25. The Bristol Old Vic was initially formed in 1946 as an offshoot, a sort of farm club for London's justly celebrated Old Vic. When the latter was melded into the British National Theater three years ago, the BOV became an independent entity.
It is supported by an annual grant of 40,000 pounds from the Federal Arts Council, plus a grant from the city of Bristol and its thriving box offices in two theaters-the legendary Theater Royal and its new Little Theater. But even in its days as m the outpost of the London company, the Bristol Old Vic had an individuality and a spirit all its own. I remember when the parent organization was in the Philharmonic on one of its tours some years ago, I asked John Neville, who was playing Hamlet, what his plans were after the tour, and he said he was leaving the London company to return to Bristol. I asked him why. "It's more adventurous, more experimental, more daring and," he smiled, "more fun."
Although the BOV is only doing Shakespeare on this first American tour under the sponsorship of S. Hurok, the Bard is not its primary product in England. The company is known as an innovator, launching new plays and new playwrights, trying new areas of stagecraft, new methods and new approaches. It was in the vanguard of the new wave of British drama that spawned Pinter, Shaffer, Osborne, Arden, Wesker, and others. It was the first company to produce an English version of Erwin Piscator's "War and Peace" (later staged with immense success in this country by the APA) and it first provided a stage for such plays as "A Severed Head" and "The Killing of Sister George." ⠀⠀⠀
The company has a vigorous acting school and training program that has a spawned a legendary crop of stars, among them Rosemary Harris, Peter O'Toole, Dorothy Tutin and Paul Rogers. m Although the concentration is on youth, many an established star has played at Bristol, including Wendy Hiller, Moira Shearer, Pamela Brown and Neville.
The Hamlet of the current company is one of England's brightest young stars, Richard Pasco. He's little known in this country, though he was in the movie "Room at the Top" and played Broadway with Laurence Olivier in
"The Entertainer." Pasco, who also plays the key role of Angelo in "Measure for Measure," told a Times correspondent in Bristol recently that he sees Hamlet as "a fish out of water." "He's plunked right in the middle of all this political intrigue and violence and that's what he hates most— violence," Pasco said.
He approves director May's decision to set the play in the Napoleonic era-"lots of conspiracy and blood around in those days." Pasco said his first West End job as an actor was in "Hamlet"-playing Fortinbras to the prince of Paul Scofield. He feels Scofield saw the character as "an angry young man." "Yet," said Pasco, "he's really pretty cool. He likes to think about things-in a world that likes to act. Not that he's unable to take care of himself—he learned that as a soldier. But he's a scholar who knows that violence only leads to more violence. It's not in his nature to do the things that have to be done.
That's the terrible part." Pasco was the original angry young man—he played Jimmy Porter in the English Stage Company's famous production of "Look Back in Anger" in 1956, which launched the new wave of British drama. Most of his career has been in classical repertory though he's also starred in British television and movies. He joined the Bristol Old Vic in 1964 for its first tour of Europe, which extended as far as Israel.
Famous member⠀⠀⠀
Actually, the most famous member of the current troupe is its Juliet, 20-year old Jane Asher-particularly with the miniskirt set. The fame that preceded her had nothing to do with her acting but her fan magazine reputation as the girl friend of Beatle Paul McCartney, which has brought out swarms of teenagers on the cross-country tour. In proper repertory fashion, she balances Juliet with the tiny role of Julietta in "Measure for Measure." There are other players quite celebrated in Britain among them, John Franklyn Robbins, Frank Barrie, Madge Ryan, Frank Middlemass, Gwan Granger, Barbara Leigh-Hunt. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But as in the National Theater, the Comedie Francaise, the Moscow Art Theater, one goes to see an ensemble, not an individual. This is a new wrinkle in this country but with the success of such ensembles as the APA, ACT and others, it's gaining momentum. There's an immense sense of pride in the Bristol company and in its homebase theater, the 200-year-old Theater Royal in cred Eritain on a heater where Sarah Siddons played and Edmund Kean, William Charles Macready, Jenny Lind, Henry Irving and Ellen, Terry-the ghost of Mrs. Siddons is said to stalk its stage.
Some feel it prophetic that the Blitz, which levered much of Bristol, spared the theater. Val May accompanied his players to this country and stayed with them through their highly acclaimed New York openings, then returned to Bristol to prepare his spring season, which includes such varied offerings as "The Hostage," "The Taming of the Shrew," Galsworthy's "Strife" and Pinter's "The Homecoming."
Among three new plays to be produced is one by American author Robert Rich, "Message from the Grassroots," a play about Malcolm X with an all-white cast.
Dr. Guthrie met the troupe in Philadelphia to brush up his initial staging of "Measure for Measure," that blackest of black comedies, which was much condemned in Victorian England for its outspoken attitudes on sex and morals and its cynicism. Dr. Guthrie told me later he was quite pleased with the production and it was greeted in Philadelphia, Boston and New York with warmth and a goodly share of critical hosannas.
The play is out of Shakespeare's middle period when he was at the height of his powers, written at about the time he wrote "Othello," after "Hamlet" and prior to "Lear." Although labeled a comedy, it is quite a serious work and tragedy is narrowly averted and then only through good fortune. It's easy to see how it shocked the Victorians, dealing with the stern enforcer of a Viennese law holding fornication illegal and punishable by death.
When a young man gets his girl with child, he is sentenced to die, and his sister, a novice in a nunnery, offers her own chastity in exchange for her brother's life. What particularly upset the Victorians was Shakespeare's straightforward appraisal of humanity, as when he has the wry Pompey ask the young governor if, to enforce the law, he plans "to geld and spay all the youth of the city?" Eras change. The candor that delights one age shocks another and can delight a third. But what endures is the essential truth in the poet in his evaluation of man for all his vice and folly.
When he has Angelo say: "They say best men are moulded out of faults, and, for the most part, become much the better for being a little bad," it's downright comforting.

Ashton Court - Bristol - England
Ashton Court is a mansion house and estate to the west of Bristol in England. Although the estate lies mainly in North Somerset, it is owned by the City of Bristol. The mansion and stables are a Grade I listed building. Other structures on the estate are also listed.
Ashton Court has been the site of a manor house since the 11th century, and has been developed by a series of owners since then. From the 16th to 20th centuries it was owned by the Smyth family with each generation changing the house. Designs by Humphry Repton were used for the landscaping in the early 19th century. It was used as a military hospital in the First World War. In 1936 it was used as the venue for the Royal Show and, during the Second World War as an army transit camp. In 1946 the last of the Smyth family died and the house fell into disrepair before its purchase in 1959 by Bristol City Council.
The estate developed from the original deer park and is Grade II* listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England. It is the venue for a variety of leisure activities, including the now-defunct Ashton Court Festival, Bristol International Kite Festival and the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. It is home to charity The Forest of Avon Trust.
Much interior and exterior refurbishment work is still required to bring the building back to a fully operational facility, much of the interior is in a state of total disrepair. The cost fully renovate the building is in the region of £40 million. The city council and other agencies are in talks with the hope of making a start in the next year…..

2024 UK Local Elections
So every set of elections we have in the UK, I kind of go crazy, pull an all nighter just following the election results by filling my own spreadsheet. But you know what... I'll shitpost election results here.
THESE ARE NOT RESULTS AS OF YET, THESE ARE AS OF YET UNANNOUNCED
Also, none of what I say really matters, I'm not an analyst or anything, just a guy who follows elections too excitedly.
Now granted, I don't know how late I will be able to follow the election results for, especially with how long it will take the election results will take to come in. I also can't follow all the elections so here are the ones I will be following:
Police and Crime Commissioners
Conservatives won 29 of the commissioner positions in 2021.
Labour won 7 of the commissioner positions in 2021, 3 of which were in Wales
Plaid Cymru won 1 of the commissioner positions in 2021
These elections generally cover rural areas, hence why it is so Conservative. These are areas which Labour would like too see gains in if they are to win the next general election, as many are predicting them to.
Council Elections
There are many council elections occurring, too many to properly follow but here are the ones I will be following:
Dudley - Currently Conservative but only just, a good indication of how much of a swing will occur.
Bristol - The results for the constituencies within Bristol for the upcoming general election could be quite an interesting one as many parties have shown promising results in recent council elections, this could be a good indicator for where the city could go.
Peterborough - Currently Conservative, with a mix of support for other parties, a good measure on how strong strong the swing to other parties are.
North Hertfordshire - No overall control, with very close results in 2021 between Labour, Conservative and Lib Dems, similar to Peterborough, would be a good indication of where new support lies.
Local elections which likely would likely lead to a conservative minority or even a mild conservative
Gloucester - Conservatives have 26 of a required 20 seats, with Lib Dems next largest 16 seats behind.
Havant - Conservatives have 28 of a required 19 seats, with 24 more seats than 2nd place Labour.
Greater Manchester Council elections will of course be followed as well:
Bolton - Labour minority, many parties in opposition with strong presence from Reform which could see an increase of support with the current swing.
Bury - Labour Majority, with Conservative minority and a similarly large local interest party.
City of Manchester - Strong Labour majority.
City of Salford - Strong Labour majority.
Oldham - Light Conservative majority, Labour did poorly in recent neighbouring Rochdale by-election
Rochdale - Labour Majority, aforementioned by election results were poor.
Stockport - Liberal Democrats the largest party in minority with Labour close behind
Tameside - Strong Labour majority
Trafford - Labour Majority
Wigan - Strong Labour Majority
Mayoral Elections
All of the mayoral elections will be followed, though most noteworthy are:
Tees Valley - Strong support for the incumbent Tory candidate.
West Midlands - Less strong Conservative presence but often reported that their image in the area is independent of the party.
East Midlands - New mayoral position, probably would have gone conservative in 2021 if it were to run, but not strong support.
North East - New mayoral position, mostly Labour support and would probably stay that way.
York and North Yorkshire - Historically strong Conservative support, probably will stick that way. Region has Rishi Sunak's seat.
London Assembly and Mayoral Elections
What it says on the tin. All 3 polls will be followed.
Blackpool South By-Election
Probably will go Labour's way considering it recently flipped to the Conservatives, historically was Labour and the Conservative running there left on a scandal. Though as always, interesting to see the election swing.

* Inaudible conversation *
Tumblr media
Anne Cornwallis, The Countess of Somerville: It is maddening how little the public regards her. If she would just put in a little more work with them, the Royal Family wouldn’t have to deal with the negative headlines.
Alma Bolingbroke: The Queen supports her, so we should as well.
Tumblr media
Lady Davina Hamilton-Seymour: We are all just so excited for the wedding. When will your husband and son arrive?
Maud, The Duchess of Huntington: Both arrive three days before the ceremony.
Davina: The press has been particularly brutal towards Margaret these last few weeks.
Maud: Nothing Margaret can’t handle she just needs to give it time.
Tumblr media
Margaret: Who are all of these people?
William: Family, friends, politicians. The Guild Hall Luncheon is put on by the government to mark momentous occasions.
Margaret: (chuckles) Such as our wedding?
William: (smiles) Well, you are going to be a future Queen after all.

Charlotte: I want to introduce you to my husband, Frederick Wentworth.
Frederick Wentworth, The Duke of Bristol: Your Highness, a pleasure.

PART ONE PART TWO PART THREE PART FOUR
PART SIX
MASTERLIST
2022
It was Saturday, Saturday morning.
Near eight-thirty five, Saurday morning.
Y/n had been woken up by clattering outside. She'd found out that the block of apartments across from her's where going to be having work done on their roof starting tomorrow, today they where just putting the scaffolding up.
She didn't live anywhere too fancy, it was a nice neighbourhood of run down 80s council estate flats which had been bought by a developer a decade back and refurbished.
She moved out of her dad's house when she was seventeen, moved into this place on her £500 a month sallary from small modeling jobs.
At first she had lived there with Lennon. They split the costs, it made it more managable to pay for the overpriced London housing. But when they both became more well known to more inclusive brands, Lennon moved out. They where going to both moved out, each get a apartment near each other in a better part of the city, but y/n had already made a home there.
Plus, it wasn't a bad flat and it was only her living there, so it wasn't as though she was running out of space or squashed.
It was too chilly of a morning to be walking about in the thin, satin pyjamas, so y/n had immediatly grabbed one of the hoodies off of her floor and searched the depths of her sock draw for some of her hiking socks, from when Gene went on a fitness spree and made them all climb up Snowdon in the October weather.
When she came to think about it, she didn't actually hate that day, like she always told Gene. Sure, she started her period early and had to climb the sheep infested rock whilst she was pratically dying from cramps, and they had to get the train back down because Thalia had an asthma attack when they reached the halfway point, and Lennon was hungover and nearly fell of the side of the mountain. All in all, it was a total shipwreck of a day out, but it was a little bit fun. Not that she'd ever admit that to Gene.
Her mind paused as she felt herself laugh a little. Why was she suddenly remenising everything ?!
She pulled the hoodie, which happened to be another one of Gene's which he had 'borrowed', this one was from a night out when her dress was refusing to protect her from the cold.
"Alexa, play 2000s indie rock." "Playing station, noughties indie rock."
She muttered a thanks to the machine before rolling the socks up to slide them on, and once they where on, throwing her folded pyjama bottoms back straight.
When she realised she wouldn't be able to hear the dot in her bedroom, she stopped it.
The model catwalk strolled through the open doors to her kitchen to find a bottle of the smoothie Gene had totally butchered the day before. She wasn't one for throwing away perfectly good food and drink.
"Alex, wait no, Echo connect to Y/f/n's iphone" "Searching... Connecting to Y/f/n's iphone... Connected."
"Merci Beaucoup."
As she scrolled and tapped her phone to find her favourate Spotify playlist, the one filled with breakup songs which was hidden under the concerning amount of true crime, girl's beauty, general waffle and ancient history podcasts. After second thoughts, she clicked onto one of her favourate true crime podcasts and played the episode which was based on the Kray Twins, having been obsessed with the gangsta siblings since Tom Hardy played them in Legend when she was fourteen. She had already listened to it twice but always found that she would end up hearing a fact that she hadn't picked up on the first time round.
As she listened to the slightly annoying Bristol accent start talking, y/n opened up the rustic red bread bin which was sat on the worktop counter and dropped two peices of the bread her mum always freshly made for her, once her daughter left home Debbie made sure to drop by every other day 'just to drop off a loaf of bread', into the more modern designed, bright red toaster.
As her breakfast began to toast, she tapped onto her insta to see if anyone had updated their stories or pages, if they hadn't then she could always resort to some good ol' fashioned 'stalking people you went to school with to take the mick out of them'.
As y/n clicked off King Alfred's Year Eleven slag's account, a text came through from Lennon.
"Dad's for dinner 6:30 . U and gene are together still"
Gene had a hold of Y/n as they arrived back in the dining room, Molly having had left a few minutes before them so that they could act out the situation they had thought up.
Just a simple situation which would infuriate Lennon, well hopefully infuriate Lennon.
The younger man's arm rested around her waist, the metallic black fabric being slightly dissheveled.
Lennon was the first to catch sight of the 'couple' when they reappeared after their twenty minutes of dissappearing. That meant that he was the first one to catch sight of y/n's faded out lips and the slightly rose tint around his brother's mouth. The slight tint which ran a trail over his cheeks and neck.
Upon seeing the expression on her brother's face, Molly held off a smirk from her face.
Liam caught onto their presence once they had seated themselves.
The chairs had been pushed in from where they had left them so the sound of the wooden floor having something pushed along it awared the rest of the table to y/n and Gene.
"Had some fun ?"
The time had arrived.
Gene gave an annoyed side eye to where Molly sat, slightly hunched over with her hand over the bottom half of her face.
"I wish."
Y/n lightly smacked him up the side of his head, pulling him to sit down in the chair beside her.
"So, Jane" Y/n took a sip out of her crystalised glass, the lightly shaded pink liquid slipping down her throat like it had been doing all day. "Why d'you like our Lens then ?"
Jane looked over to where she was sat with large eyes, completely shook by the question. Before she could open her mouth to answer, the Taylor was already blabbing on.
Gene and Molly where holding in laughter whilst Liam pretending nothing out of the usual was happening, Debbie sat excluding herself from the conversation in hopes she wouldn't laugh too loud and Lennon glaring at his friend as she made hand gestures and almost knocked a full glass of white wine over Molly.
"Because, sure he could be considered attractive but why do you actually like him."
"Y/n/n, I think you've had enough now-"
"No it's alright babe."
The evening continued like that, y/n coming up with bizzare question which interigated Jane and annoyed Lennon. Sometimes Liam, Molly and Gene joined in whilst Debbie attempted to discourage them.

So, I missed a day. Apologies.
Tiredness, in fact, extreme tiredness causes me to consider whether I will last the year. However, I'm now so used to saying this and then continuing to live and breathe I really don't know anymore. It's a case of taking each day as it comes. I've now swamped myself promoting the book, and trying hard to do all the backend stuff that'll get my website back on track with Google algorithms and suffering severe brain damage by the minute trying to get my head around it all and getting nowhere fast when, as I stated a couple of days back I really want to talk about the vile drug trade.
I guess I'm the atypical type of bloke in one respect and cannot multitask if my life depended on it, and yet, I totally immerse myself in too much at once and become overwhelmed, and yes, to the point where I'm exhausted both mentally and physically as I am right now and ready to drop.
Nonetheless, I am determined to get this drug-related writing out of my system. I know and speak with quite a few people, both male and female in Bristol whose lives revolve around the intake of Class A drugs 24/7. Ordinarily nice people who've found themselves caught up in this drug-ridden revolving door of existence.
You see, the problem I have is that these dealers, don't care who they sell their crap to and whether that person lives or dies. That is the reality. They don't care if that person is someone's mother, father, brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, niece, nephew, or grandchild. I've known users die on the streets due to these petty dealers who are smart enough not to use themselves. I've tried so hard up til now to not lower myself to use pejorative terminology, however, I find myself forced to describe these pushers as murdering scum, and in this instance only I wish we had an admittedly brutal but effective Middle Eastern law whereby these vile, scummy people had a hand chopped off if caught dealing as an example needs to be set, and one that's effective so people are afraid to deal their Class A crap for fear of the consequence of doing so. Prison is a total waste of time and taxpayer money.

Rudolf Bing was born on January 8th 1902 in Vienna, Austria.
Bing might have been born in Austria, but his efforts after World War two to establish a Festival to bring Europe together gave us, what morphed into the worlds biggest annuual rts festival in Edinburgh.
The Festival was the brainchild of Rudolf Franz Josef Bing, an Austrian-Jew and opera impresario who had fled Nazi Germany with his family in the 1930s. Upon entering the United Kingdom, Bing helped to found the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in East Sussex. No doubt inspired by the Salzburg Festival of Music and Drama, which had been hugely successful in his home country before the war, Bing’s dream was to establish his own arts festival and he travelled up and down the United Kingdom hoping to find a suitable location. Eventually he was fortunate enough to encounter the open mind of Edinburgh’s then Lord Provost Sir John Falconer, who spotted an excellent opportunity to both expunge the doom and gloom and boost the city’s coffers at the same time.
The plan to hold the Edinburgh Festival was announced in November 1945, receiving enthusiastic support from the general public and the unanimous backing of the town council. Hosting such an ambitious event promised to transform Edinburgh into a forward-looking hub of international culture and creativity. Most importantly, it would give a city in the midst of post-war austerity something to cheer about.
Though associated with the Edinburgh Festival for only three years of his very long life, Sir Rudolf Bing has lived on in people’s memories as the man who started it all. The idea was his, along with the powers of persuasion - which must have been considerable - and the patience to bring his plans to fruition in spite of much opposition. In 1947 he was truly the right man in the right place at the right time.
Desiring to launch a great international festival in Britain as soon as hostilities ceased in 1945, he had thought first of Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol, York, Lincoln, and Chester but found that, as he put it in his memoirs, his “mind kept returning to the sight of the castle on the cliff in Edinburgh”. His only fear was that the city might be “really a little big for a festival”.
Rudolf Bing moved in 1949 to the United States and became General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera (Met), a powerful position he held for more than 20 years. He fostered the careers of many artists: Roberta Peters, Leontyne Price and Jess Thomas are just a few that flourished during this time.
Bing haf an intense relationship with Maria Callas, who he hired for the Met.
Rudolph Bing died in New York or respiratory failure due to Alzheimer’s disease on September 2nd 1997 aged 95.
The blue plaque in his honour is on the Hub, on Castle hill.

Listen to this article hereIt may come as no surprise to Black people in North America that the United States’ closest European ally, the United Kingdom, has been accused of widespread, systemic discrimination against people of African descent.
After wrapping up a 10-day fact-finding mission on the treatment and experiences of Black people in the UK, a United Nations committee expressed “extreme concern” in a letter to the British government last week about its failure to address “structural, institutional, and systemic racism” against people of African descent.
Tumblr media
“We have serious concerns about impunity and the failure to address racial disparities in the criminal justice system, deaths in police custody, ‘joint enterprise’ convictions and the dehumanising nature of the stop and (strip) search,” the working group said in a statement.
UN working group on people of African descent finds continued systemic racism in UK
Established a year after the 2001 World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, the UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent (WGEPAD) is composed of five independent experts appointed on the basis of equatable geographic representation.
The group sent a 19-page summary of recommendations to the British government on Friday after speaking to hundreds of citizens throughout the country during a 10-day fact-finding mission.
Among the findings, the UN body discovered many Black elderly populations were made to feel like they don’t belong, school police officers regularly intimidated Black children, and the criminal justice system’s practices disproportionately targeted Black people.
What is the Windrush scandal?
Tumblr media
Windrush refers to the people who arrived in the UK from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean islands between 1948 and 1971. The ship they sailed on was called the MV Empire Windrush, according to the BBC.
Tumblr media
Speaking at a press conference on Friday in London, Dominique Day, one of the five members of the UN working group, said: “I’ve never visited a country before where there is a culture of fear pervading Black communities – relating to a range of asylum, residency, policing issues. An entire community experiences constant and ongoing human rights violations as a routine and normalized part of daily life.”
It’s unclear whether Day had ever visited the United States.
British government denies systemic racism
For its part, the British government pushed back against the report’s findings.
“We strongly reject most of these findings,” a British government spokesperson said, per the Guardian.
“The report wrongly views people of African descent as a single homogeneous group and presents a superficial analysis of complex issues that fails to look at all possible causes of disparities, not just race. We are proud that the UK is an open, tolerant and welcoming country but this hard-earned global reputation is not properly reflected in this report.”
The denial of racism comes just eight years after the UK finished forcing taxpayers to pay the descendants of slave owners as a bribe for abolishing slavery nearly two centuries ago.
Meanwhile, officials said they had a “robust” discussion about the report with the UK equalities minister Kemi Badenoch.
As part of its fact-finding mission, the UN working group visited London, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol. It spoke with senior government officials, local city council representatives, Metropolitan police and members of the Human Rights Commission.
The UN working group will present their full findings and recommendations to the UN Human Rights Council in September 2023.

So Bristol City Council has put out this survey on their proposed trans inclusion policies and it is, unsurprisingly, getting dogpiled by transphobes. There are no geographical restrictions, so anyone can respond, and the consultation is open until October 9th.
Their current and proposed policies are excellent and they need to hear that they're doing the right thing.

The Grosvenor Hotel Bristol - Built in the late 1800's to service the nearby Temple Meads Central Railway Station, the building has stood empty for more than 40 years, and due to Road and carriageway alterations it now stands on a traffic island, and has no safe access. After many years of developers attempts to reinvent this building, the city council has at last made the right decision to demolish it (2023)
