Book-to-Movie/TV Adaptations From Black Writers
Did you know that only 160+ movies/shows have been adapted from books by Black authors since 1908? 4 of these were sci-fi/fantasy. Of the 160+ adaptations, 61 are adaptations of 2 books. Meanwhile, in YA alone, 50+ adaptations have been released in the past 20 years, half of which were sci-fi/fantasy. But that's not all.
My findings can be found in the essay, "Dear Hollywood, Where Are the SFF Book-to-Movie/TV Adaptations From Black Writers?" over on Reactormag.com, previously Tor.com.
Also, be sure to check out:

With the series coming out and it’s obvious success, it makes me wonder if they would ever consider doing a HOO series. I would love to see the characters and storylines brought to the screen but I don’t think it would make it past the first season.
And that’s because The Lost Hero (the first book) doesn’t have Percy in it. When the book came out it was a really big thing and I remember some of my friends loosing interest because of it.
Like, Rick gave us Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, took them away, and gave us Jason and Piper. Also Leo, but people are fine with him.
It’s mostly Piper and Jason they have a problem with because people think Piper is a pick me and that Jason is boring. Because of that if an HOO show ever got picked up, I worry that people might loose interest and the show wont go on.
I know I’m just overthinking and that PJO isn’t even out yet but it’s 3am and it’s all I can think about.

I decided to try Chapelwaite before bed because it didn't look like a very good adaptation of "Jerusalem's Lot" and I already knew the plot and I was curious (and dubious) about the adaptation's choices.
Anyway, now I'm sitting up in bed--the locks checked, the light still on--listening to the creaks and whispers in my century-old house and thinking about my life choices.

Yesterday I was thinking…
FYI, I’m ever so slightly more team Jamie, so that’s where my line of thinking went…
but won’t it be great to see it on tv?
Avery, walking outside the back or side of this massive Texas mansion in the fall, searching for a moment of silence, only for us to hear off screen…
“If yes is no and once is never…
how many sides does a triangle have?”
Camera pans up to some shirtless, green eyed god among men, perched on a railing precariously and mildly drunk, smirking down…
Gods, it’s gonna be a thing of beauty.

I did not know about this casting. I was not expecting death to show up as a registered sex offender to tournament the gang. Like gods everything is just as bad as I imagined and somehow worse. This show is so good.

I swear I'm going to shut up about the Gabe change eventually.
But I think something that is overall getting lost here. Is the books and the show by extension covers dark topics. Some of which can be triggering. Not just Gabe but other things as well.
And so far it seems like aside from toning down Gabe their staying in.
So if the adults in the room who have better emotional regulation than the literal children who might watch this for the first time without prior knowledge and won't have that same type of regulation. And the adults are being triggered to the point where they are saying its too much for them.
While keeping other sensitive topics are being kept in?
Than yeah.
A straight from the book Gabe was going to be too much.

people hate changes between adaptations but also like. art is supposed to change? and mean different things. to address s the issues of the time and to stay faithful to the original it has to change? if arrt doesnt change its like a replica. or mueseum. maybe both idk

the wrinkle in time series (time quintet) should only appear on the screen as a tv series that is also somehow directed by Greta Gerwig and only people who have read the books know this
