Note: Ten favorite monsters, part eight. Previous part. The Point is a seriously underrated movie. Catch it if you’re into stuff like The Phantom Tollbooth or Yellow Submarine.

1. Oblina from Aaahh!!! Real Monsters

Tbh, I didn’t really watch this show. Rugrats was and is my fave Nicktoon, so my first exposure to ARM was crossover episode “Ghost Story.” (That, “The Last Babysitter,” and Rugrats in general has great juvenile horror.) But I have a soft spot for female monsters that have “girly” features while still giving grotesque.

2-4. Anglerfish-esque monsters

Dark spider spirit from Avatar: The Legend of Korra: Some kind of arachnid, anyway. Don’t let her teethies fool you. This lady will just yeet anyone spirited away into the Fog of Lost Souls, she hates people so much.

Grand Fisher from Bleach: The Bleach Wiki describes him as “resembl[ing] a giant hamster.” Which is great. Didn’t even think of that. Rats aren’t the only rodents that can scary. But he’s included here because I love monsters that mimic victims’ loved ones.

Frogfish from The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: SpongeBob has other anglers, like two cute ones from “Rock Bottom,” one of my fave episodes. As with Grand Fisher, I love how the Frogfish uses a biological dummy of sorts as a lure. In this case, its tongue. Bringing to mind the Alaskan Bull Worm.

5. Old Dark Frog from Days with Frog and Toad

This and Bony-Legs were seasonal delights for teeny Tawney. The illustration where he's looming, nay, towering over a chilled Frog was so hair-raising.

6. Brain Eating Meteor from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy

Pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Has one of the best villain songs ever. Thank you, Voltaire.

7. the Demons of Ignorance from The Phantom Tollbooth

It’s like with the Blue Meanies where I can’t pick just one! There’s the Terrible Trivium, of course. But also the barely-there-but-will-bring-you-fear Threadbare Excuse, draconic Two-Faced Hypocrite, etc.

8. the Pointed Man from The Point

Trickster who sounds like a shaken clock. Tumblr sexyman candidate right there.

9. Sadako Yamamura from Ringu

Screenshot’s from Ringu 2. The visage creeping after Mai as she climbs with Yoichi out of the well is based on the forensic reconstruction of Sadako’s corpse.

Localizations are hit or miss for me, but I’ll admit The Ring 2002 was more entertaining. However, I think Sadako’s generally a more interesting villain than Samara.

While Ringu notability took inspiration from Videodrome, it’s its own unique spin combined with Japanese ghost lore.

10. the Tingler from The Tingler

A literal spine-tingler, living on people’s vertebrae. Emits a cardiac, pulsating sound when free roaming and swells after gorging itself on fear.

Note: Eventually, I will try reading the Ring series. I read more murder mysteries than straight-up horror. Might add other Aaah!!! Real monsters to future lists if I ever watch the show proper.

Gemstones Season 1 Finale: Judy and Kelvin start to heal, Scotty joins the family

Showrunner Danny McBride has stated that he wants every season of his programs to tell a complete story: no callbacks to previous seasons, and no cliffhangers. By the finale, every plotline has been resolved and every character development arc has been concluded. He also hates downbeat endings, so the season finale tells us that "they lived happily ever after"

The Season 1 primary plot featured Gideon and Scotty betraying the family, first by blackmailing Jesse over the tape of his sex-and-drugs party, then by planning to steal the Easter offerings from the church. Secondary plots involved Eli butting heads with Rev. Seasons over his church expansion, and Kelvin and Judy dealing with obstacles in their relationships. The finale ties all of the plotlines into a single theme: forgiveness.

Shot 1 : Church. In his sermon, Eli describes his visit to Aimee-Leigh's childhood home, where he interacted with her spirit. Cut to a flashback of the siblings collecting the money that Baby Billy and Tiffany stole from Scotty's van.

Shot 2: Eli continues: "We move through this world, crossing paths with friends, family...and I believe that the goal of all that colliding is to make us appreciate one another, to find empathy." Shots of Martin, Mandy (Chad's wife), and Chad, sitting far away from her.

Cut to a flashback of Rev. Seasons (Dermot Mulroney) working in a hardware store (Baptist churches are autonomous, so if one closes you don't automatically get placed elsewhere). Eli offers him a job as pastor of the satellite church that Baby Billy abandoned. Rev. Seasons was a secondary Big Bad, but Eli stole his flock, so we are not sure who needs forgiveness more.

Shot 3: "If you're not rooting for your enemy's salvation, you are not in line with what the Spirit wants." Shots of Dot Nancy and her parents, BJ, Keefe (working security again), Martin's wife, a couple I don't recognize, and Jesse's crew (Matthew, Gregory, and Levi). Notice that BJ and Keefe are linked, structurally presented as the partners of Judy and Kelvin. They won't begin sitting together until Season 3.

Shot 4: "Aimee-Leigh knew this. That's why she wanted to help, no matter what." Shot of the spirits of Aimee-Leigh and Scotty sitting together in the congregation, glowing in ethereal light.

Shot 5: "For when you forgive other people when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will forgive you." Cut to Baby Billy and Tiffany selling their new gimmick, pictures of his trip to heaven. I uess they haven't been redeemed yet.

Shot 6: "How we navigate this life, and each other, is what defines us, and what leads us on the path to healing." Cut to Judy and Kelvin in makeup, getting ready to perform, smiling.

Shot 7: "By accepting each other for our shortcomings, our sins, our selfish behavior, we are granted the ability to make mistakes as well. That's what He gives us. The ability to begin again. To be forgiven."

We move on to Jesse in Haiti. He offers to help Gideon with the water ministry by digging an irrigation trench. The end.

Scotty and some dicks after the break

Judy and Kelvin: Before this season, the siblings spend their lives crippled by the traumas of their past. Unable to believe that they were worthy of being loved, they sabotaged every potential relationship, Judy by defining herself soley as a sexual being, and Kelvin by denying that he was a sexual being at all. In this season they found partners who loved them in spite of their spitefulness, selfishness, and general craziness, in spite of Judy's obsession with the phallus and Kelvin's fear of it. Forgiven, redeemed, they have started on the road to healing.

Scotty: Scotty appears next to Aimee-Leigh, Jesse's mother and Gideon's grandmother, the matriarch of the family. He looks more bemused than happy, surprised that he has been forgiven, wondering how he came to be sitting here, after all the pain he caused the Gemstone family.

Remember that both BJ and Keefe had to suffer symbolic deaths before they could unite with their partners. Did Scotty, in death, become Gideon's partner?

Maybe, in spite of his machinations, posturing, criticism, and threats, in spite of the hints of abuse, this is what Scotty wanted all along. After all, the goal of the two schemes was to draw Gideon away from his family so they could spend their lives together. Maybe he couldn't admit it to himself, so it came out in random bursts, like calling Gideon "cute," taking him out on dates, and finally admitting, just before his death, that "you broke my heart." Aimee Leigh helped him understand what he needed, what he wanted, and she has made him a Gemstone. The end.

Dancing with the Stars Season 32 Wrap-Up: Let's Talk

Hey everyone! Hope you all are doing okay. Now that I am officially on winter break, I feel like I have the energy to write this post. I know it's a bit late, but the season sucked and I needed to think about why I hated it so much. I also am glad that I waited because I listened to Cheryl's most recent podcast episode with Melissa Rycroft and a lightbulb went off. I'm gonna break this up into sections. So let's start.

The Judges

First and foremost, I think the show is going to struggle to see a high level of dancing without Len being there and with the current panel of judges. I don't think the current 3 can inspire the pros to push themselves and their celebs past what they thought they were capable of. No matter how hard CAI tried (because she is trying to pick up that role as she realizes that it is needed), weeks 5 and 6 were kind of the ceiling for everyone except for Charity. What Len was so good at doing was change up his scoring throughout the season to match the level they should be at and lead have his co-judges follow suit. I didn't always agree with him, but I cannot deny that the man forced the couples to give us out of this world dances by the final third of the season. CAI tried but she is not the person for that job. She's not consistent enough and she wasn't able to have Derek and Bruno follow her lead. While she was trying to shift into gears 2 and 3, Derek and Bruno pretty much stayed in gear 1 up until week 8/9. As a result, Xochitl, Alyson, Ariana and even Jason's dances had a sameness about them. The only person that I saw shift into different gears was Charity because all of the judges were very consistent about her feedback and were constantly pushing her to get better (and not just randomly scoring her down like they would do for Jason).

So with that said, I think the guest judges all (except Michael) were much better at judging this season than the main judges. I am not sure why that is. But it was clear that Niecy, Billy, Paula and Mandy all did their homework before they came in. I think they were better because they only came in once and were coming in with the frame of mind of "oh it's week such and such, we probably should be at this point with these dances by now" and they would judge accordingly. So we got some constructive feedback from all of them that I felt was vital for each of the couples to take with them and use to really push themselves to that next level. The problem? When the main judges aren't saying it, how likely are some of these pros to incorporate that feedback into their dances. We say Rylee do it as Billy was the only one that stated that Harry wasn't moving much. Artem did it, but it's because EVERYONE was saying the same thing about Charity. So he could not ignore as much as he wanted to. But the others? Idk. I'm gonna talk more about judging in a later point, but I think a lot of the problems of this season, for me, started with them. If they had made praise harder to receive, I think the quality of the dances would have been so much better.

The Pros and the Partnerships

As many of you know, I was not happy with most of the pairings this season. Many were mismatched. There were some pros that didn't need to be on the season at all. It was very frustrating to watch. And I was trying to figure out why there were so many issues this season with the pros teaching their partners this season as so many problems were either never addressed or never hidden. And it wasn't until the podcast with Cheryl that it dawned on me. I don't think a lot of our current pros are good teachers. Melissa was talking about how Tony figured out how she learned and was able to adapt to that. I think that was the case for the vast majority of the pros in the past. At least the successful ones. Melissa also talked about how she struggled on tour with Artem because he never truly figured out how she learned. Now Artem is a little different, because he's been a pro for almost 15 years (SCD and DWTS). But outside of Koko, Daniella, Emma (though this was not a great season for her), Val and Peta (and Sasha at one point though he's literally been shitting the bed the past few years), the current pros just haven't impressed me with their teaching abilities. Britt and Brandon have legitimate potential but neither one has really been able to truly show it in a season. Britt was getting there with Adrian. Brandon has had four seasons that were cut short and we weren't able to truly see what was to come from his partners. That's it. And that showed this season and is also why so many of the partnerships just did not work out. Tyson had legitimate potential and Jenna, once again, wasted it. Same with Mira. Ariana and Charity should've been killing the competition and probably could have been some of the best dancers we've ever seen. Instead, they were kinda just there. Alyson could've been a way more competent dancer by the end if Sasha just tried even a little more. In my humble opinion, even Xochitl would've been better and had better choreo if Val had seen more competition from people outside of Jason and Daniella. Idk, we just need the pros to be better teachers. I don't think I can sit through another season of celebs having the same major problems in their dancing all season long. It just can't happen. Not when we've seen the likes of Kelly Monaco, Kelly Osbourne, Rob Kardashian, Joanna Krupa and more become legitimately good dancers, the celebs on this season should've been way better. The only true no hoper we had (not including Matt) was Jamie Lynn.

Job Shifts

Remember how I said that I was gonna come back to the judges' table? Yep, well I'm back. We need either a job shift or an addition to the judges' table. If the show wants to stick with three judges, Julianne and Derek need to swap jobs. Julianne is a better judge. Derek is probably a better host. You know all the stuff I was talking about that CAI was struggling with trying to do at the judges' table? Yeah, Julianne can do that and has done it. And she does it quite well. I think Derek would be a lot better at just talking to celebs. If the show is fine with a four person table (the ideal situation), then add Julianne, keep Derek there as well and bring on another cohost for Alfonso to work with. S/o to @forevertrueblue for that idea, as I think it's perfect. I think Kym, Leah Remini, Drew Lachey, Vanessa Lachey, Melissa Rycroft or Maria Menounos could take over that cohost job. Probably more could, but I would need to really think about some of them some more.

Silly Things

The last thing I'll post about is some of the silly things. A 3 hour and 5 person finale was foolish. Don't do that again. Having the show go into December for the first time ever was not a great idea. If we're gonna do 11 weeks, make sure that we start earlier so the show can be done at least before November ends. This also means that they need to have a much clearer plan of the show before week 1. And finally, the judges have been getting extremely lazy. There should be no reason that I can point out several blatant mistakes in a perfect scoring dance.

10 Anti LO Asks

(Note: All of these asks are before episode 206 (Season 2 finale) so some may be dated.) 1. [spoilers for the most recent lore Olympus epsiode] if I wasn’t already a LO hater this episode would have been the final nail in the coffin. WHY is kronos, the ancient extremely powerful titan that rules over TIME ITSELF (and most likely the final boss), drooling over oh-so-beautiful Mary Sue Persephone like a dime a dozen perv? It’s such blatant fanfic writing and it makes him so much less intimidating as a villain. seriously what the fuck. literal wattpad moment.

2. having your favorite god show up in lo is the worst feeling in the world

3. I truly love your thoughts on lore Olympus, I wish RS, instead of making a love/romance story, that she would have made a story based on the actual myths themselves yet make it her own “style”. Greek myths were there to teach lessons. For example, Zeus was loved by the people of Greece but was described as a asshole and cheater never getting a fair punishment for his actions. This was a way to teach the people about unfair power dynamics. RS could have made a story about this, she could have has us hate the characters at first but then, have them grow on us as we go through certain myths, having the characters grow throughout the story. Sorry- I’m rambling but that’s my take on it…

Honestly I’m pretty sure I saw that this is LOs last season so I’d thought I’d read up on it, because even if somethings bad I can usually still read it normally without being invested, but reading Persephones parts are unbearable. It’s so cringy and weird to me. I didn’t really notice that much but then you throw in other characters like Zeus and the most recent goddess shown and they’re so much better. I was really into Zeus’ story but it ended way too short. Maybe it’s just because I’m more into reading stories that have a established bad character and then the story goes on to explain what happened to make them bad, but it’s so much more interesting to me to see Zeus grow up unaware of who he was, raised by by nymphs of all things and try to piece together how he got were he is. The fact he was raised by nymphs but they’re treated as lesser than In the future is so interesting to me. I want more of his story because even if we know how the current Zeus is, the progression of his more meek kind character raised by women nymphs into self absorbed king who doesn’t treat women as people is way more interesting. Idk it just helped me realize how plain and boring Persephone’s story is in comparison when it shouldn’t be.

7. I actually really liked Persephone in the beginning of Lore Olympus. She, along with the slightly cool art style, were the reason I even read as far as I did. I thought she was a cool character with a fun personality in the beginning.

I never particularly liked Hades, but I thought he had potential. I thought he was an interesting character and was excited to see him develop.

I never ended up getting that far in, because I often put stuff down and don’t come back because I have a bad memory. But then I read some more about it, and was happy with my decision to stop. I am really disappointed with how the story went. I really liked the characters and their potential in the beginning.

8. I didn’t realize how much the quality of the comic has dropped until I decided to reread the first couple of episodes. Some character’s personalities have completely changed (for the worse..), the writing quality/dialogue is very bad in comparison, and the art quality has dropped tremendously. Not to mention the plot has completely changed. It’s a shame WT forced RS to make LO so long, I think a lot of the issues it has right now wouldn’t be present if the comic was much shorter.

9. Idk if you still answer anons or anything but it is so funny to me that LO fans (particularly the ones who fastpass) are starting to turn on the comic. I've seen a lot of fans saying they haven't been happy with where the story is going/pacing/things like that. They're especially upset that webtoons is now charging 7 coins vs 5 coins for fastpass. Idk it's just funny to me. These are people who would like fight to the death any time someone dared to criticize Smythe and now they're like wait this actually isn't that good. Oh how the turn tables.

10. I just started LO again and remembered how engaging it was at the beginning and how each character was unique in a sense. Now it is just a shell of what it was used to and feels like second rate fabrication. Honestly even Zeus became the character that make the most sense and he’s supposed to be the problematic one… He’s honestly the only one criticizing Persephone at this moment and I need that fresh perspective

Cartoon Network was a huge part of my childhood so In honor of Cartoon Networks 30th anniversary ,I decided to do a top 10 list .Keep in mind these are my oppinions and I havent seen every show to ever air there

10.Tom and Jerry

Now I was split whether to put on Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry to represent the classics.Truth is while I am a bigger Looney Tunes fan,I distinctly associate Tom and Jerry with Cartoon Network and recall seeing the cat and mouse foes duking it out whenever I got home from school

9.Dragon Ball Z

I was debating which anime to put on here :Cyborg 009,Kekiashi and Cowboy Bebop are all contenders......But I would be lying to myself if I didnt put on DBZ as I heavilly associate it with the Toonami block and its a show I really have grown to love

8.Powerpuff Girls

Funny,had kickass action aqnd a great rogues gallery.Also got mocked a few times for liking a girls show(Not by kids but by family members ) but didnt care this show was awesome

7.Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

Macabre kid,so the dark humor and horror vibes of this show really appealed to me and its one me and my brother qouted a lot

6.Justice League Unlimited

Proooooobably my favorite of the DCAU shows

5.Teen Titans

Putting the midocred final season aside ,this was a great show .I remmember actually being skeptical of it as a superhero show cause I didnt know who the Teen Titans were(Aside from Robin of course)and the show went on to be one of my fave Superhero showa

4.Courage the Cowardly Dog

One of my gateways into horror ,but there was humor,and heartwarming stuff along with the horror

3.Ed Edd N Eddy

As a kid this was my JAM . My absolute favorite show on Cartoon Network as a kid and it informed a lot of my sense of humor

2.Samurai Jack

Of the action shows this is hands down my favorite ,a brillaint use of visual story telling

REally the last thing I watched on Cartoon Newtwork.....And in my oppinion one of the best pieces of animation I have ever seen

I’m 24 Today!

Today is my birthday! I’m 24 years old now! 🎉🥳🎈🎁 along with me turning 24 today,I watched Good Burger,my sister got me a SpongeBob-themed cake at Publix,and I got some birthday gifts from some of my family. We were supposed to go out for my birthday dinner at Ruby Tuesday’s tonight,but we had to postpone it to tommorrow,along with using my cake tommorrow and blowing out my candles.

Some of the birthday gifts I got were:

-The Loud House-Who Ghost There? Chapter Book

-DuckTales-Scrooge McDuck Funko Pop

-Ed,Edd,n’ Eddy:The Complete Series DVD(since I’m less interested in HBO Max recently(except for using it on occasions to watch stuff like Looney Tunes Cartoons,Harley Quinn,Billy and Mandy,Dexter’s Laboratory,Foster’s, and Jellystone! and movies like DC League of Super Pets,Black Adam,Godzilla(2014),and Elvis),mostly because of the way they purged several CN and WB shows off the service last year and WBD later removed hundreds of classic Looney Tunes cartoons and Seasons 4-6 of The Flintstones off Max and took the original Animaniacs,Pinky and The Brain,and Tiny Toons off Hulu earlier this year. I decided it’s better to buy complete series DVD’s of these shows instead,I’ll probably order a complete series of Courage next too).

I’ve watched a couple of Super Fighting Robot Brothers, because to see what the hype’s all about.

Made me think; ”You know what would be a great idea if there’s a season two?”

”If the show gave Shiny and Thunder another brother?”

So I’ve created Mania. I also put our favorite round boi Shiny for size reference.

I made Mania because it fellt like something is missing between the gigantic robo bros.

Since Thunder is the calm brainy middle bro while Shiny is the goofy moral compass for an eldest bro, then that makes Mania the gremlin baby of the trio.

Mania’s characteristics would be described as both the best and the worst at the same time:

Good characteristics;

Same stradegy as Thunder and intuition(gut instinct) as Shiny; He’s supposed to be built(not by Alex) as a foil to both Shiny and Thunder.

Also has long range weapons(rockets as sub) like both brothers, but Mania stands out most is close range combat(has the ability to turn his hands into green energy saws(for example Otto from Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!)). Including high speed and dexterity during combat by activating electromagnetic wheels to move fast like rolling on rollerskates(for example GoGo’s hero suit from Big Hero 6).

Gremlin, but not gremlin 24/7(shows more vulnerable side(mostly to Shiny sometimes), serious side during battle or chill).

Excited to fight with kaijus.

Bad characteristics;

Like I’ve mentioned, is such a gremlin that made Shiny seem more mature.

Bottled up anger issues(from his previous home; Worsened after being abandoned by creator/other robotic bretheren).

Enjoying fighting kaijus to an extend that he needed to be leashed by either Shiny or Thunder, does it as an outlet for his bottled up anger.

Trust issues(also from abandonment).

Takes time to get along with everyone in EDF(longest with Thunder).

Lastly, his voice fits well(in my opinion) when played by Richard Steven Horvitz(famous voice for Zim from Invader Zim, Razputin from the Psychonauts series and Billy and Harold from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy).

I hope the messy, ugly rough sketch didn’t ruin my oc Mania and the ”third brother” concept too much.

My future projects will never be produced by WBA

The Saturday-morning cartoons I’ll develop based on Warner Bros. Television Studios’ popular sitcoms, Friends by Marta Kauffman & David Crane & The Big Bang Theory by Chuck Lorre & Bill Prady will never being produced by Warner Bros. Animation because the studio is busy making upcoming TV cartoon projects between this year & next year, including Creature Commandos (TV series) for Max. Instead, my future projects will be produced by Cartoon Network Studios at the new & current Second Century building in Burbank, California which was responsible for producing such shows as Dexter’s Laboratory & The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (although it was recently merged with Warner Bros. Animation 1 year & 6 months ago). While Cartoon Network Studios will be producing the Saturday-morning cartoons, Warner Bros. Entertainment still owns the rights to both the Friends characters & The Big Bang Theory characters respectively.* In these animated prequels, the main characters in their respective shows will be in their preteens years (between the ages of 10 & 12). The Friends prequel will set in Central Perk while The Big Bang Theory prequel in Pasadena, California during the events of Young Sheldon & the art style will be inspired by Genndy Tartakovsky, Craig McCracken & Chris Savino in late 1990s & the early 2000s days of Cartoon Network originals. The Friends prequel will premiere on Discovery Family & soon after on Max (streaming service) late next year & The Big Bang Theory prequel will premiere in 2026 because all the animated shows on Cartoon Network today uses the current thin line art style thanks to Pendleton Ward & J. G. Quintel, & the running time for the shows are now 15 minutes with commercials. Also, I will write episode scripts at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, California when I’m done writing episode scripts of Dexter’s Lab Season 5 (7 & 8) here in Limay, Bataan. They will be the few 2020s cartoons not to use the Pendleton Ward/J. G. Quintel art style but the thick line art style when it’s not animated in flash, same with Unicorn: Warriors Eternal by Genndy Tartakovsky. For these future projects, they will be produced by Cartoon Network Studios in association with Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions for the Friends prequel, Chuck Lorre Productions for The Big Bang Theory prequel & Warner Bros. Television Studios for both shows respectively. Let’s bring sitcom based cartoons back.

For the last 6 days I've been hospitalized with a moderately hideous injury, which (along with moderately hideous motel rooms) is the only time one is legally allowed to watch network television in the United States.

Anyway, I have only the vaguest memory of the Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy's 2-part special Wrath of the Spider Queen from 2007, which recently re-aired over an authentic 2-day period on Adult Swim.

It's pretty good! The titular spider queen has 2 goofy dark elf minions straight from an AD&D module illustration and your favorite spider son Jeff undergoes an emotional arc that conveniently resolves back at the status quo.

It's weird to me that cartoons from my childhood are being folded into the corporate broadcasting definition of "retro", especially stuff from later seasons that I still think of as being new for no good reason.

I don't think these old shows used to be much edgier or more "adult" than what's being made today. I feel like Billy & Mandy committed pretty hard to operating on horror movie rules at every opportunity, though. You can get away with a lot of this stuff these days, but maybe not in a recognizable setting. Weird animal characters and anthropomorphic inanimate objects in the current era experience pathos and terror in excess of that felt by cartoon human children in 2007.

To steal and paraphrase a half-remembered post, you couldn't make this today because animation is very expensive and it would take much longer than 24 hours and it's already 10am.

Gemstones Episode 1.6 Review: Kelvin sees Keefe's dick, and gets a big head

Episode 1.5 is a flashback to 1989, when Aimee-Leigh is pregnant with Kelvin. She's over 40, so she calls him her "miracle baby." Episode 1.6 shows us that "miracle baby" as a grown-up gay man interacting with his boyfriend or soon-to-be boyfriend Keefe.

Keefe's Mushroom Head: After their Friday night encounter with the blackmailers, Jesse has their van towed to Kelvin's garage, then fetches Judy. As they are talking, Keefe comes out of the house, wearing only a shirt, eating cheese. "What's going on?" he asks. Evidently he was naked, heard a commotion, and put on a shirt to investigate.

Jesse: "Sickening!"; Judy: "Cool mushroom tip"; Kelvin: "That shirt's not as long as you think, Bud. Just go back inside." We see his dick peeking out from below his shirt, and then his butt as he turns around.

This seems like a joke on Keefe being drug-addled. But if we use logical deduction, it becomes much more significant. First, let's piece together the chronology of this eventful Friday evening:

6:00 pm: Youth group begins at a trampoline park in downtown Charleston. Kelvin is stretching to begin acrobatics when Dot arrives.

7:00 pm: Keefe notices that Dot is missing, and they drive to Club Sinister. This is also the most likely time for Scotty/Gideon to go out for pizza, and Jesse/Amber to visit Chad/Mandy.

7:30 pm: It shouldn't take more than half an hour to drive from anywhere in Charleston to the Naval Shipyard. Kelvin and Keefe rescue Dot and take her home, then go home themselves.

8:30 pm: The most likely time for Kelvin and Keefe to get home.

9:00 pm: The most likely time for Scotty/Gideon's dinner and Jesse/Amber's visit to end. They head for home.

9:30: Jesse sees the van, gives chase, watches it crash, then drives Amber home, makes an excuse to go out again, calls a tow truck, and has the van towed to Kelvin's house. Then he goes to fetch Judy. This will take at least an hour, so he arrives at around 10:30. Kelvin and Keefe have been home for two hours.

Why is Keefe naked? He was in bed. No doubt they both were.

The most logical scenario: When Jesse knocked or yelled, Kelvin threw on some clothes and went downstairs to talk to him. Keefe was planning to stay inside, so Jesse wouldn't know that he was there: he went downstairs wearing only a shirt, and got some cheese. But then he heard Judy's voice, and wondering what they were doing, went outside.

But: were the guys in bed in the same room or different rooms? It's a big house, so Keefe probably wouldn't be disturbed by Kelvin getting dressed unless they were in the same bed.

Plus, just a few episodes ago, Kelvin was terrified by the sight of Keefe's testicle. Now he is embarrassed but not alarmed to see Keefe's cock and butt. He is used to seeing Keefe naked.

This queer code is the result of logical deduction, so most viewers won't notice. I didn't notice myself until I tried to map out the night's timeline. But it would make structural sense: Keefe looks for love in Episode 1.4, rejects the Satanists to follow Kelvin, and ends up in Kelvin's bed. It would make Kelvin's later despair more realistic. And it would lead into the isolation tank rescue.

"This isn't normal": Saturday morning. After a scene where Rev. Seasons announces that his church is closing, we move on to Eli, Baby Billy/Tiffany, and BJ/Judy playing golf. Baby Billy offers Judy a job singing at his satellite church Since he was unsuccesful in drawing Aimee-Leigh from Eli, he's going to try it with Eli's daughter.

At Jesse and Amber's house, Gideon comes down to breakfast with a black eye. His parents are upset, but they don't make the connection to the car chase last night.

More about Keefe's Cock: Kelvin's garage, several days later (queer code: there's a neon picture of a flexing bicep on the wall). Kelvin tells the silings that Keefe ran the van's plates -- stolen -- and got fired for it. So he was living with Kelvin before he got fired? Maybe he just spent the night of the Club Sinister rescue, because it was late and they wanted to be intimate?

Kelvin brags that the Nancys gave him a soda machine to thank him for bringing Dot back to the church. Judy criticizes him for "getting all cocky," and Jesse agrees" "you have had a big fucking head lately." Both are call-backs to Keefe's cock (unintentional in-universe), the last a double-entendre. We're getting more and more structural evidence that the guys have been intimate.
