What do you think is the best format for a double elimination?
1. A night of performances and two couples eliminated.
2. Two nights of performances and two couples eliminated on the second night.
3. Two nights of performances and one couple eliminated each night.
Option 3. It’s less of a double and more just two singles in one week. I’d prefer for them to wipe the slate clean between each elimination.

Dancing with the Stars Season 5 Week 4: Rewatch
I'm so excited for this week. I get to see some of my favorite dances from season 5. Anyway, hope you all are doing okay. I'm gonna go ahead and get started with the rewatch review. Also, Samantha is back this week.
Mark and Kym- Viennese Waltz (Judges' Score=22, My Score=7)- This was a major improvement for Mark. You can tell that he was feeling the music and really took CAI's critique to heart. His posture was a little off and I wish he would have more artistry in his dancing, especially his arms. I also saw that he lost time several times. But again, he's making progress.
Sabrina and Mark- Paso Doble (Judges' Score=30, My Score=10)- Perfection. Just perfect. And I really wanna talk about their attention to detail with this dance. Her hands, her fingers and her feet? *chef's kiss* It was absolutely gorgeous and one of my favorite dances of all time. Also, I love the color that they wore.
Jane and Tony- Viennese Waltz (Judges' Score=26, My Score=9)- I loved this dance so much. It was so sweet and so pretty. Her lines are amazing. Yes, there was a small lift, but I truly don't care if it's something that isn't planned, it just happened. I will say that Jane was a little too hoppy at times throughout this dance, but that's it.
Floyd and Karina- Paso Doble (Judges' Score=23, My Score=7)- This was Floyd's best dance by far. He still needs to work on more finesse and control. However, I see the improvement and that he has worked on that a lot. I also saw a huge improvement in posture. I just wish he was able to stay one more week. He figured it out. Also, CAI's lift critique was some bs.
Mel and Maks- Viennese Waltz (Judges' Score=26, My Score=9)- It was a really pretty dance. Her posture was especially impressive. What I will say is that similar to Jane, she was a little extra hoppy here and there. Otherwise, it was so good.
Cameron and Edyta- Paso Doble (Judges' Score=27, My Score=9)- Cameron started out the dance kinda shaky. I could tell that the confidence was not there immediately. Once the sleeves came off though, he was in it and focused and gave a fantastic performance. His upper body can be loosened up a little more, but that's it. It was great and I'm really enjoying rewatching these two.
Marie and Jonathan- Viennese Waltz (Judges' Score=26, My Score=8)- Marie's lines were much better, she was stronger throughout her core and she had a much better posture. The performance, as always, was great. Even though her technique was better, it was very obvious in this dance that her footwork needs a lot more attention.
Jennie and Derek- Paso Doble (Judges' Score=27, My Score=9)- Jennie killed this dance. She completely transformed. She was so confident and sure of herself. She also had a much better posture this week. I want to say that what I found most impressive about this dance was how Jennie stayed in control the entire way. With how chaotic the music was and the complexity of Derek's choreography, it could have gone left at any point. But it didn't.
Helio and Julianne- Viennese Waltz (Judges' Score=27, My Score=9)- Helio is back! This was such a good dance. Helio is so charismatic and special. I don't think there has been another dancer like Helio since this season. At least another male. I had to agree with Len. His head position was forward and odd. As a result, his posture was caved in. It was strange, but an otherwise fantastic dance.
My Rankings and Scores Out of 30:
1 Sabrina and Mark- 30 2 Jennie and Derek- 28 3 Cameron and Edyta- 27 = Helio and Julianne- 27 5 Mel and Maks- 26 = Jane and Tony- 26 7 Marie and Jonathan- 25 8- Floyd and Karina- 23 9 Mark and Kym- 21
The competition this week was so close. Honestly, season 5 has been a fantastic watch so far. I also wanna say that one of the more recent dances (Nyle's quickstep) started playing automatically after Helio and the quality and content of the dances has changed so much over the years. It's honestly sad.
So unfortunately Mel and Floyd ended up in the bottom 2 this week. While I'm glad that Floyd was the one sent home, I do wish he had gotten another week. I wanted to see what Karina could've done with him after his breakthrough. That's all I got. Let me know your thoughts and I will talk to you all soon.

Dancing with the Stars Season 5 Week 3: Rewatch
Hey again everyone. Like I said, we're getting back on track. It's week 3 and I'm really excited. From what I remember, this is when several couples show themselves as true contenders. So let's start.
Sabrina and Mark- Jive (Judges' Score=27, My Score=9)- This was so good and almost perfect. I have no notes outside of one kick right before the worm that was out of sync. These two are so good that the one very small mistake that they made stuck out like a sore thumb. That's it.
Cameron and Edyta- Tango (Judges' Score=23, My Score=8)- There we go. Cameron is figuring it out. He improved so much. His hold was great. His posture was amazing. I do think the character of the dance was slightly lacking for a tango, but I'm gonna attribute that to the song. Can't really do slow and passionate with The Beat Goes On. Otherwise, it was great.
Mark and Kym- Jive (Judges' Score=20, My Score=6)- Mark did a lot better tonight. He was less loosey goosey. His technique was better. He understood movement a bit more. Like CAI, I agree that he's dancing like a person that is trying to look like a dancer and not just dancing as a dancer himself. He also got lost in the middle section. He did keep going, so props to him for not giving up and fighting his way through that.
Jennie and Derek- Tango (Judges' Score=26, My Score=8)- JENNIE! YES! Okay so Jennie killed that. What a comeback. Her footwork was really really good. Jennie attacked the dance with such confidence and a fierceness that took the dance to the next level. I still want her to work on her posture more. But, this was the breakout that she needed.
Mel and Maks- Jive (Judges' Score=27, My Score=9)- Mel killed this dance. She has improved so much in such a short amount of time. Like I said at the beginning of the post, this was a special week on this particular season. Most of the couples really brought their A-game.
Wayne and Cheryl- Tango (Judges' Score=18, My Score=5)- This was Wayne's best dance of the season. I liked the mood of the dance. Wayne really had the character down pat. The dancing itself, while a little less small and steppy, still needs more work. But this was a great dance for them to leave on for sure. I'm glad they got to have this moment. Also, quick sn: I forgot how good Drew was as cohost. Someone get him on the line and bring him back!
Floyd and Karina- Jive (Judges' Score=21, My Score=7)- This was a real solid dance. Definitely his best dance so far. Floyd has all of the elements needed to be a fantastic dancer, he just has to work on the fine details. If he had just pointed his feet, this would've been straight 8s. If he straightened up his body, we could throw 9s in there. He truly has it all. It just lacks finesse right now.
Jane and Tony- Tango (Judges' Score=27, My Score=9)- This was a really beautiful dance. Jane's technique was really good. And her frame? *chef's kiss* I think I was most impressed with just how strong her hold was. I usually get on Tony's case for making his routines too soft, but it was actually perfect for this particular dance. All the best parts of Jane really got to shine. I also want to draw attention to the fact that Tony took a very backseat approach to this week with the package and the backstage interview. I miss when pros (and the host and producers) understood that we really don't need to hear too much from the pros during extremely personal moments for the celebs. They handled Jane's mother's passing so well. That is such a stark difference from the way they've handled other passings in celeb's families over the last decade of the show.
Helio and Julianne- Jive (Judges' Score=24, My Score=8)- Although this wasn't as good as his mambo, it was still a great performance. Helio did have a few mistakes and he also seemed like he was dancing through mud at moments and I'm not sure if his foot problem had something to do with that. Still as charming as ever and exudes so much fun and joy out on the floor. It just wasn't his week, but that's okay.
Marie and Jonathan- Tango (Judges' Score=26, My Score=8)- As a performance, this was so good. Marie really had the character down and gave it so much depth. The dance was also quite good as well. Two notes that I want to make. The first is that her posture was caving in. Like Len said, she needed to lift her upper body to open that back up. Also, I wish she had a bit more power through her legs. Otherwise, it was great and definitely her best dance so far.
I want to quickly say that this season reminds me of season 24 in the sense that the women were mostly ringers (to varying degrees) and the men weren't though a few had natural talent. The difference this season is that the male pros are actually getting some incredible dancing out of their partners and the male celebs haven't given up. It's very interesting to me.
My Rankings and Scores Out of 30:
1 Sabrina and Mark- 27 = Mel and Maks- 27 = Jane and Tony- 27 4 Jennie and Derek- 26 = Marie and Jonathan- 26 6 Helio and Julianne- 24 = Cameron and Edyta- 24 8 Floyd and Karina- 21 9 Mark and Kym- 18 10 Wayne and Cheryl- 16
Now the bottom 2 were Floyd and Wayne. And Wayne was sent home. I do think that it was the right decision. Like I said earlier, I'm glad they were able to go out on a high note. Next week, we'll be back again. So I will talk to you all soon!

I know you think 12 or 13 is the ideal number of couples for a season (and I completely agree), but with the show being broadcast on Disney+ as in season 31 (no commercials) do you think it was acceptable to have 15 or 16 couples?
I read your Tumblr here in Brazil and I just have to thank you for the incredible content you bring to us.
For me, it’s not a time thing with the couples. What happens with 15-16 is that we get multiple double eliminations. That heightens the chances of a couple getting eliminated before their time. So the less opportunities we have to invite those “shocking” eliminations in, the better. Also, I selfishly don’t want more because it’s so hard to write about all those couples. When we get a lot, I frequently shift things those first few weeks to make writing easier.
Also, thank you so much for reading. I’m so happy that even after all these years, I still have people around from around the world that read and support what I do over in my little corner on the internet. Y’all don’t know how much it means to me.

Dancing with the Stars Season 5: Week 2 Rewatch
Sorry about the delay. I was dealing with headaches several days last week. So you all will get both week 2 and week 3 this week. So let's get into week 2. Everyone performed on the same night, so the posts are back to normal.
Mel and Maks- Quickstep (Judges' Score=23, My Score=8)- This was a pretty good dance. I don't think it was as good as their cha-cha, but it was still strong. Her posture was actually really good and she moved well. There were some out of sync moments between herself and Maks, but that's really it.
Mark and Kym- Mambo (Judges' Score=18, My Score=5)- Mark is an extremely awkward mover. He tries really hard, but the dance did not translate this week. I did see a few instances of nice arm lines. But yeah, it just didn't work out this week.
Wayne and Cheryl- Quickstep (Judges' Score=15, My Score=5)- Whew. Okay. That was kinda hard to watch. It was stiff and he was pretty much walking through the entire dance. But I did like the performance a lot more this week and there was a point toward the end when they really moved across the floor that Wayne handled pretty well. I do think he can get better, but he's not amazing.
Marie and Jonathan- Mambo (Judges' Score=24, My Score=7)- Marie came out and surprised me with this dance. While there are still some technical issues with her posture (we don't talk about it much in Latin, but she was hunched over) and her foot placement, she actually did a respectable mambo and performed the hell out of it. I also wanna say that I like her partnership with Jonathan.
Albert and Anna- Quickstep (Judges' Score=21, My Score=6)- I do think that this was better than last week, but Albert seemed to struggle a bit more with feeling comfortable with the dance. Like the judges said, his energy he seemed to lose a bit of his joy this week. His footwork was nasty, but I thought his posture was really really good. I do think he had some higher potential than most of the other men (behind only Helio and Cameron and slightly above Floyd) but unfortunately, this was his last dance of the competition, so it went unrealized.
Helio and Julianne- Mambo (Judges' Score=27, My Score=8)- It was really good. Helio's footwork was very fast and very good. He was mostly precise. He did some really complex moves here and handled it with relative ease. He is extremely charismatic and I found him pretty sexy here. And I've never found Helio to be that until now. My biggest problem with this dance was a lack of fluidity. I just wanted him to be less choppy and have the moves flow better.
Jennie and Derek- Quickstep (Judges' Score=21, My Score=7)- Oh no. I hate that they fell right at the end there. Jennie does need to work on her posture and strengthening that up through her core. And there were a couple of feet problems. But it was a really strong dance otherwise. Jennie has so much potential. I'm glad she and Derek started will figure it out sooner rather than later (I'm excited for week 3).
Cameron and Edyta- Mambo (Judges' Score=21, My Score=7)- I want Jennie and Cameron to sit down with a confidence coach. I think they suffer from some of the same things. And if I remember correctly, both had a similar journey on the show. There were moments of greatness here. His lines are great. And when he does things right, they look great. He looks like a dancer. I do want him to work on his musicality some more. A lot of that is the nerves for sure. But also, he needs to just hear the music.
Floyd and Karina- Quickstep (Judges' Score=21, My Score=6)- So I actually don't think this dance was bad. It was actually decent and a huge improvement. His posture was not good, but that's a boxing habit that needs to be shifted. As I said last week, finesse is still the name of the game for Floyd. He has so much potential. I think the moment everything clicks into place, he will be incredible.
Jane and Tony- Mambo (Judges' Score=21, My Score=8)- Okay so I think Jane has really great technique. However, Jane different give what she should've given for this dance. It felt very uptight and royal and not as grounded and raw as I wanted it to be. I think Jane and Marie can learn a lot from one another. They're two sides of the same coin. But I mean, everything was done well. Jane is amazing.
Sabrina and Mark- Quickstep (Judges' Score=26, My Score=10)- First of all, Mark looked so much like his father when he was younger. Like they were basically twins. This dance though was incredible. I don't have anything to say. Len is full of it. Those light and shade and slow it down comments for a quickstep don't really make sense for a quickstep. Especially not this specific quickstep. It was danced to perfection FOR ME.
My Rankings and Scores Out of 30:
1 Sabrina and Mark- 28 2 Helio and Julianne- 25 3 Mel and Maks- 23 4 Marie and Jonathan- 22 = Jane and Tony- 22 6 Jennie and Derek- 21 = Cameron and Edyta- 21 8 Albert and Anna- 20 = Floyd and Karina- 20 10 Mark and Kym- 16 11 Wayne and Cheryl- 14
So our bottom 2 were Albert and Floyd. Neither one deserved to go home this early. But unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Albert. I think he had so much more to give and Anna seemed to really enjoy him. But as we all know, models struggle on this show. Especially if they are not big names. That was his real downfall. That's the end of week 2. Let me know your thoughts and I will be back tomorrow with week 3 so that we can get back on track.

Between James Hinchcliffe and Rashad, who do you prefer?
Thank you for the incredible tumblr!
Thank you for the kind words!
And to answer your question, I prefer Rashad. He’s smooth and moves very confidently. Those are some of my favorite types of dancers.

I feel like I need to thank you for your re-Watch posts. You have good insight on the dancing. They are fun to revisit and make me realize how much better I liked the earlier shows. Thank you
Thank you for reading them! This is definitely my favorite series to do on the blog. It also shows me just how much better I enjoyed the earlier seasons as well. I truly hope we can get back to basics with this show.

I see Haley Ebert is recovering and doing well(thankfully-good for her) I wondered what your opinion of making her one of the judges on DWTS or a co-host? I know she probably wouldn’t take the job, just trying to think of ways to shake up that darn judging panel! Thanks for all you post.
I hadn't thought about that, but I don't think I would put Hayley as a co-host or judge. I could see her being in the choreography department though, if she wants it. Though I wouldn't ask her to do any of that yet. I'm glad she's recovering though. I know she wouldn't do any of that this soon though (doctors would more than likely advise against it due to stress). Now about the judges' panel, if Julianne doesn't go there, I do still think we need four judges. If not her, then I would look at either Cheryl or Kym next.
Thank you for reading!!!

From your key board to the EP ears!! Yes to all of that, but especially, not so many theme nights(they try to hammer in songs and dances that don’t fit) and bring back Tuesday elimination!!! Please please please let them read your recommendations!!!(and then actually listen and follow through on a few of them 🙏🏼)
Theme nights make the show so clunky, specifically because of the songs not working for styles and them trying to force a square block into a round hole. I really hope they have someone on the show scouting social media for ideas of what to do.

Dancing with the Stars Season 5 Rewatch: Week 1 Night 2
So we're back for night 2. Let's get the men out of the way shall we? Also, it was a 3 night premiere.
Night 2
Cameron and Edyta- Foxtrot (Judges' Score=21, My Score=7)- This was a very nice dance and a great way to start the night. Cameron had an ease about him that I really enjoyed. His arm lines are gorgeous. I agree with the judges there. I do wish there was some more rise and fall. He also had a few mistakes. But it was such a great start.
Floyd and Karina- Cha-cha (Judges' Score=18, My Score=6)- I was going to give this dance a 5 at first, but then it kept going and Floyd progressively got better. He has a lot of energy and has a lot of rhythm. I think these two have to reel in the energy a little bit and work more on technique. It needs a lot more finesse. But Floyd does have a lot of potential.
Helio and Julianne- Foxtrot (Judges' Score=25, My Score=8)- I forgot how good Helio was right out of the gate. He's such a natural dancer and performer. It was so charming. His technique was really great. There was rise and fall. It was smooth. He performed! It was amazing. I did see that he and Julianne got out of sync a few times, so I docked a point for that. Also, this is nitpicky, but I want him to work on his head position.
Albert and Anna- Cha-cha (Judges' Score=21, My Score=6)- Okay, so like Floyd, Albert has a lot of energy. He didn't attack the dance quite as rough as Floyd, but there is still a lot of energy. Now, I have to say that he was a little stiff and lost timing quite a few times. The technique also needs work. But, there is potential here. I actually can't wait to see his quickstep. I think that will suit him way more.
Mark and Kym- Foxtrot (Judges' Score=21, My Score=7)- This was so shockingly cute. I was not expecting to see a performance like this from Mark Cuban. It was really nice. He worked hard. He had fun. It wasn't amazing, but it was shockingly decent.
Wayne and Cheryl- Cha-cha (Judges' Score=19, My Score=5)- Wayne is a great performer. But that is second nature to him. He does need to work on his hip action and also fully dancing through these routines and not marching through them. But, it was a great first attempt, he has rhythm and you could tell that he had a great time.
My Rankings and Scores Out of 30:
1 Helio and Julianne- 24 2 Cameron and Edyta- 21 3 Mark and Kym- 19 4 Floyd and Karina- 18 = Albert and Anna- 18 6 Wayne and Cheryl- 17
Rankings and Scores from Both Nights:
1 Sabrina and Mark- 27 2 Mel and Maks- 25 3 Helio and Julianne- 24 4 Jane and Tony- 23 5 Jennie and Derek- 21 = Cameron and Edyta- 21 7 Marie and Jonathan- 20 8 Mark and Kym- 19 9 Floyd and Karina- 18 = Albert and Anna- 18 11 Josie and Alec- 17 = Wayne and Cheryl- 17
So that's both of the performance nights. We had Mark and Josie in the bottom two and unfortunately Josie was the first eliminated celeb. I really wish we had given this cast the chance to do two dances. I do feel like this is a group that needed a second dance to truly do a fair first elimination. While I don't think Josie would've stuck around for a long time, I do wonder if she may have fared better in her second dance than Albert would've. Who knows. But that's it. I'll be back next week with week 2 of season 5. I'm so excited for this season, y'all don't even understand.

Dancing with the Stars Season 5 Week 1: Rewatch
We're back for a new season rewatch. Just a few updates. First, Samantha is on maternity leave, so Drew Lachey is handling cohost duties with Tom. I remember Drew being really quick witted as well and playing off of Tom real well (probably what happens being a younger brother and working in a boy band as a teen and young adult). Also, the premiere was split up into 2 nights. The women were on night 1 while the men were on night 2. I believe there was a third show that week as there was an elimination on the first week. Anyway, with all of that said, let's get into the show.
Night 1
Jennie and Derek- Cha-cha (Judges' Score=21, My Score=7)- Derek was so young back then. This is so wild seeing baby face Derek again. Jennie was really good. Her technique was clean. I was especially impressed with her arms. She places them so well. Jennie's musicality was very good. It did not feel like she was struggling to dance with the music. Her legs can use more work. She can be stronger in her legs, but she is such a diamond in the rough. Confidence will be key for her. And if I remember correctly, that was their biggest obstacle.
Josie and Alec- Foxtrot (Judges' Score=16, My Score=6)- So there is definitely potential there for Josie. She was elegant and she had a lot of personality (which is something that models do tend to struggle with). But she does lack a lot of strength and therefore, the control that she needed was not there. I also agree that her feet weren't great. I do think Len was a little harsh with her though because it wasn't terrible. I wish she had gotten a second dance. She looked so defeated after Len spoke and you can tell that she was so excited to get out there and perform.
Sabrina and Mark- Cha-cha (Judges' Score=26, My Score=9)- Babyface Mark. Omg. This is so wild. This is still one of the best cha-chas that I have ever seen on the show. The surgical precision of her feet was out of this world. Her musicality???? Goodness. Every line. Every foot placement. Her legs. Her arms. Everything was perfect. I honestly liked the hip hop. It was a tasteful amount to me. The only reason I'm not giving it a 10 is because it is week 1. That's literally the only reason.
Marie and Jonathan- Foxtrot (Judges' Score=21, My Score=6)- Marie is such a great performer. Now her technique left much to be desired. Marie has so many things going for her though. She does have nice lines. She is confident and comfortable performing in live shows. She's got good musicality. She is super charismatic. And she has a desire to improve and be better.
Mel and Maks- Cha-cha (Judges' Score=24, My Score=9)- This was an amazing dance as well. I actually don't think that it got the love that it deserved. The technique was so good. The energy was high. It wasn't as good as Sabrina, but they were right underneath.
Jane and Tony- Foxtrot (Judges' Score=24, My Score=7)- I was quite impressed with this dance. I don't remember Jane on this show as much as I remember everyone else from this season, but this was very good. She was so elegant and posture was so good. Her turns were kinda not great and it wasn't as smooth as I personally would've liked for a foxtrot, but it was still very good.
My Rankings and Scores Out of 30:
1 Sabrina and Mark- 27 2 Mel and Maks- 25 3 Jane and Tony- 23 4 Jennie and Derek- 21 5 Marie and Jonathan- 20 6 Josie and Alec- 17
So the women set the bar extremely high. I don't think the men (outside of Helio) measured up, but I'm excited to get to their night. I will be back later on today with the dances for the men.

New Rewatch Alert
Hey there everyone. Hope you've been well! I just wanna give y'all a heads up that I will be doing a rewatch and it should be up sometime tomorrow. We will be working our way through season 5! Also, there are some requests that I got at the end of last year that I never got around to doing. I should be getting those up at some point too. In the meantime, if you all have any questions or suggestions or anything, let me know. And I will talk to you all soon!

If you could be the EP for the next season, what you would do? Judges panel, hosts, number of couples & weeks, themes, pros competing and everything more.
Also, thank you so much for the DWTS conten. I read your tumblr from Brazil.
I love this question. Here is a list of things:
I would bring back the staircase that they walk down every week. I always used to love that and it set the tone for the show for me.
I would probably move Julianne to the judges table and hire another cohost to work with Alfonso.
Seasons would only have anywhere between 12 and 14 couples.
No elimination on the first week
I would go back to having couples switch off between ballroom and Latin each week (pairing jazz and contemporary with one of those dances.)
More appropriate music choices. Just because you want to use current songs doesn't mean that they can't fit the style they're being used for.
I would have minimal theme weeks.
Advocate for bringing back the finale shows on Tuesday.
End the season before Thanksgiving.
I would look at all the pros that still want to be on the show as options instead of only focusing on who was there the previous season. Just because they were there, doesn't mean they're gonna be a fit for someone in the upcoming season.
This isn't an exhaustive list, but it is a lot of what I would do.
Also, thank you so much for reading! I appreciate the support!

I’ve often found maks and Val’s choreography to be a bit boring but I was recently rewatching old seasons performances and stumbled across Mel B’s first jive from season 5 and was stunned by how much I really liked the choreography!
Maks was a much better choreographer in the early seasons of the show. I actually feel like he lost his spark after season 13 with Hope. The choreo with Melissa was average more often than not, Kirstie was older in season 15 and had more limitations in the All Star season than in her original season. Then he took a break and after he came back, he sucked. Val was way more consistent up until halfway through season 16. Then he started churning out bs because the judges just awarded him with high scores regardless. He's had bright moments since then, but never has it been sustained

I’m also not always a huge fan of Disney night but I’m still holding out hope that they’ll use Ma Belle Evangeline one day bc I think it’d produce a beautiful Viennese waltz
Given to the right pro, I think it could too. But I don’t want it to be wasted and so many of these Disney songs have been wasted over the years. It’s sad

Speaking of old DWTS I miss when the rehearsal packages were actually about their rehearsal. Now its always some gimmick or personal story about the celeb and not at all about their journey to learning the dance that week
I miss those packages too. You got a more complete picture of each partnership
