The first book of the Wayfarers series and I'm pumped up to start a new science-fiction journey after (and in between) the Expanse. By the way I saw that a new series is coming from them so I feel like 2024 is going to be a good year regarding books and games too.

I love the fact that first this novel was self-published by a Kickstarter campaign and I also love how the author basically grew up to be a science-fiction author. To my little Astronomy and Planetary Science undergrad self with writing ambitions this is way more meaningful than just simply being inspirational.

A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers #14 of 2022 3.5 stars . My first dabble into solarpunk, a sub genre of science fiction which explores a future where humanity has adopted a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to life. As such, it is a strangely optimistic little novel filled with beautiful greenery and serenity, in which a tea monk decides to leave their set path and explore the wilderness, both literally and metaphorically. Unfortunately, the current literary trend to create a series of novels as opposed to crafting a standalone story leaves this story feeling a little lacklustre, and the central voice of the narrator seems confused and immature. I finished A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers. I read this book inbetween the RJ Barker binge as a palate cleanser as it’s only a short one. In a future where robots gained independence of thought, humanity has reverted to a more pastoral existence living in greater symbiosis with the world around them. Main character Dex is a tea monk who travels to the various settlements, offering tea and therapy for those who need it. They travel off the main route one day and find Mosscap, a robot, who joins them. On the way they discuss such topics as “What do people need?” and “What is purpose?”. A deeply philosophical and gentle book, this was a story that acted as a tonic to my soul and reminded me why sci-fi novellas can sometimes be more impactful than books twice their size. Another month has passed, which means it’s that time again; round up time. I started out pretty strong during May, but didn’t manage to finish a single book during the last week of the month.
