#BB!Tigerstar

Note
Tigerstar was always interesting to me, and there's something about BB!Tigerstar that makes him immediately scarier. The fact that Firestar tried to find a root to everything wrong with him and found nothing, the fact that he never takes the blame for his own mistakes, even when Swiftpaw dies from the dogs. And the last post regarding thistle law. I think it was then that it clicked. The dark forest must've allowed him to practically fester.
That's it. BB!Tigerstar doesn't even have a prophecy that he will become a tyrant, Goosefeather lied. He told Pinestar a half-truth to give him enough anxiety that he'd have nightmares.
The only thing inevitable about Tigerstar was the slowly grinding gears of ideology. If it wasn't him, it would have been another cat with a charming smile and quick words. And that's what's so unsettling about him.
He was Spottedleaf's childhood best friend. He was a sweet little boy who wanted to please his mom and his mentor. He hummed his daughter Lynxkit's favorite lullaby as she passed away in his paws. His mate loved him. He raised a fine apprentice. The whole Clan respected him.
And he filled up unmarked graves with his murder victims, controlled his outsider mate with threat of death if she tried to escape, fed a nursing queen to dogs, because he stopped seeing them as people.
The Dark Forest gave him opportunity. A second chance to acquire everything he ever wanted; Godhood, his ideas in practice, a glorious future. But in truth, there was nothing inherent about his evil. He wasn't born with darkness inside of him.
Firestar sorts through his memories to find the root of his evil, and finds nothing. Unwilling to take blame and full of anger... but not unseen in other cats. That's all there is. A miserable pile of circumstance, taped together by a hardening cycle that started long before his mentor's mentor.
That's what I'm getting at with BB. Tyrants, abusers, and ideologues are people. Evil isn't special and unique, it's ugly and common. Horrible, villainous people can be family, friends, and coworkers. No one is immune to propaganda, and there is no magic way to preemptively catch a bad person.
I find that a lot more unsettling than the idea of people "born with darkness" and having prophecies and visions foreshadow their inevitable villainly, lmao

Clan Politics
Bonefall comes up with such good names for things, you guys should also follow them if you aren't already. Seriously! Their Better Bones redo is so good! BB!Heartstar and BB!Brokenstar are my blorbos (actually I'm pretty sure they all are). This was a tad intimidating because a lot of my ideas either overlap or were inspired by Better Bones. Also, I haven't attended a political class in like 9 years.
What @bonefall calls Thistle Law would meet its WCR Equivalent, Tiger Law/Tiger's Law (because Tigerstar is an uncreative dickhead) OR more Eloquently Put by Leopardstar, The Law of Tigers. Started by Clear Sky, revived by Thistleclaw and expanded by Tigerclaw, this is the ideology that gets cats hurt. The unsustainable, ego driven law that drips with blood. This is fascism.
Not as far as Tiger Law, but not very free itself, is Codeism, or, Law of The Wild. The Warrior Code should be thought about in every situation no matter what, and cats outside the Clans* do not fall under that protection. This can be used for good and bad. Not every Codeist is a xenophobic bigot, as Rowanstar was one, and tried his best to both follow the Code, and be as helpful to others as possible. Ashfur used it to hurt others, and prined Hollyleaf to be almost the same way until she realized where that path could lead. It's complicated and messy, but hey, that's politics for you.
* aside from kits. Kittens are the future, not just for the Clans, but for Cats themselves. Many cats in Clan history have been found in the woods or given up by parents to the Clans. Some lost kits have been returned to parents as well.
The Third is Fire Law, the ideology that Firestar created, he wanted to call it The Law of Cleansing Fire but Sandstorm told him it was a mouthful, maybe keep that to an unofficial title. It is about freedom of choice, extending kindness towards others, challenging the Warrior Code if it does not help in a situation, and doing what is good for as many cats as possible. Forward thinking and long term thinking, doing things, not for yourself, but for those who will only know you from memories long after you are gone.
The other 2 are Skyclan exclusive, though as of River, some notions of Sky Law are starting to leak.
The Fourth is, of course, Sky Law! Made for Skyclan and expanded by Leafstar. It is welcoming of outsiders, allowing for Daylight Warriors, Medicine Cats to have mates, development of new roles and systems with an emphasis on creativity, justice, and coexistence. This does not mean rolling over and allowing others to take advantage of you, of course, but the goal is finding peace through making treaties and alliances.
The Fifth is... Sharp Law. Created by Sharpclaw in retaliation against Leafstar. Exclusionary, though NOT meant to be deadly. While this Law also allows for more "radical" things, like allowing Medicine Cats to have mates (because Firestar never bothered telling Skyclan that it was banned at all) it DOES NOT allow for Daylight Warriors. It demands full loyalty to Skyclan full time. It also pushes all cats (within reason) to have battle training, to expand through pure strength and muscle. It isn't full blown fascism, but... S'not great, captain.

I'm starting a new art series: Firestar's family tree! I'll try my best to draw every branch, and hopefully, also the closest relatives of the family's mates (i will draw bramblestar's closest family - tigerstar, goldenflorwer, tawnypelt, sasha and her kits, but not tawnypelt's kits - maybe one day tho?) I'll also try to keep everyone's designs accurate to cat genetics (expect tortie sandstorm and leafpool soon) but trying to stay as close to canon designs as possible Starting with PART 1: Crystal the angy momma cat :3 Ginger ticked tabby with >50% white Bb OO Dd AA mcmc spsp Tata bmbm ii wbwb Cc WsWs kk ll acac sfsf JbJb pdpd > FAMILY ECHO <

Leopardstar is a great character actually.
It shows how being promised to be leader out of pity fucks up a lot of shit.
I can already hear the 'But she allowed Stonefur to be killed by Blackfoot and Tigerstar!' That's exactly my point. Plus the fact that she made Mistyfoot deputy as an apology for allowing her brother to be killed.
That and disregarding a lot of Feathertail's trauma from that. Leopardstar still cared about her clan greatly, I just don't think she was entirely fit to be leader whatsoever.
She was promised the leader role because she lost her mother and her siblings when she was born and people thought that she deserved to be leader for having to go through that.
But that's the thing, she's a good character for exhibiting that. She was expected to do good because she was basically promised the role, and had a lot of expectations put onto her. Does this excuse the Stonefur incident? No. But it doesn't make her an evil person, just cowardly and unsure.
Leopardstar was an okay leader overall. She had quite detrimental downsides (i.e the Stonefur incident and the lake patrols during the drought.) but for what she was worth, she did a fairly decent job keeping the clan in order both in the forest and at the lake.
Though I do prefer Leopardstar over Mistystar. I think Misty went down a similar route and she just made the broken code more tedious than it needed to be.
I mean, I really like her honestly. But I also have a soft spot for a lot of river bbs. Eeltail is always my favorite you can't make me give her up for anything.

Inspired by a few asks over at @bonefall I’ve crafted a bit of a Blood!Rusty au! He takes the spot of Scourge in the last battle and TPB would be split across both groups, with Sandstorm as the opposite pov.
Long post once again
So Rusty is the fire still, going to save the clans in the end by taking out Tigerstar who is far more successful as no fiery guy is there to stop him.
Blood Band Rusty
Instead of Bluestar and Graypaw getting Rusty and scooping him into the clans someone else does, the current Head of the Blood Band. I like the idea of them being called Wolf or smth but that’s all aesthetic. Back into Rusty-
He is approached after Wolf notices something inside him. A Fire they can almost feel as they looked at the pet. Feeling this adventure he joins and is taken under their paw, learning the way of the Blood Band and how to fend for himself. While training he does cross a lot with the clans. Not only from talk but by himself. He meets them at the moonstone in the first book where Bluestar had gone to speak to Starclan and was almost chased off immediately by the cruel Tigerclaw though his leader held the warrior off. While there he does discuss and chat with Ravenpaw and Graypaw.
After this the three are friends, meeting occasionally just to have fun. This is where he learns of the divide and damage happening in TC. By the end of the first book Ravenpaw runs to him in fear and says Tigerclaw killed Redtail, and attacked him to try and get rid of the evidence. Being himself Rusty brought Ravenpaw back to the Blood Band where he was immediately accepted and changed to just Raven (as a side note this is also a ravenscourge au so he takes the spot in BB that Scourge/tiny would’ve)
Eventually Rusty would grow in rank, becoming a guard and then Claw (deputy role for BB) for Wolf. Raven is a guard beside him but more flighty still and spending a lot of time helping any cats who need it. Before the final battle Wolf is killed by Tigerstar who took over TC making Rusty rise to Head position. Seeing what the cruel cat has done when he came to the Blood Band for extra force he agreed but always planned to shred the cat open the moment he could. He does, fighting ensues and what stops the blood spill is him slashing the Tom open. But he cares still and sees the damage that’s been done so he gives up his position and collar to Raven who becomes head of Blood band. (Also Tiger killed Wolf bc he thought Rusty would be much easier to manipulate and then he’d take any useful cats from the Blood Band to help him keep himself in power)
He joins TC and that’s when he and Sandstorm become closer. Both working to save TC from its looming demise and put it back to its better path. When accepted he is named Firestrike (tho I’m open to better suggestions). Slowly he helps to rebuild the clan and rises in rank, becoming Firestar after Whitestar’s unfortunate death and him making Sandstorm his deputy.
Sandpaw’s part
Sandpaw is how the readers would connect to TC’s growing despair and feel it being ripped apart right from the heart. She is a RunningRed kit and is deeply hurt by Redtail’s death. She’s still the spitfire but worse on herself, she takes too much on herself, has too high of standards, and doesn’t let many really in to save her from herself.
She was a friend of Ravenpaw before his runaway but when he disappeared she too fell into the idea that he was conspiring with Shadowclan. As a pretty well looked upon cat she is very very heavily manipulated by both her older brother (Longtail tho I’d name him Dunetail) and Tigerclaw. She is far more aggressive to outsiders as time goes on but the big heart inside of her lets her change. She realizes through Graystripe and the sweet Princess that outsiders aren’t lesser then clan cats. I’m liking the idea of Princess actually joining the clans as a queen with Cloudkit and despite the clear aggressions against her keeps her name anyway.
Her mentor becomes deputy, she follows under him and is almost being primed for power. Until Graystripe finally pulls her aside and tells her the truth. Tigerstar killed both her parents, was the one really helping Shadowclan, attacked and made Raven run away, and was planning to take over all the clans no matter what blood was spilled over it. She switches sides in the end and when Tiger is killed, Whitestorm is made Whitestar, she helps beside Firestrike to bring back the clan to its glory. Over time they’d get closer as well but not become mates (Fire is aro in this) and She’d maybe fall for Princess bc I think their cute. Squilf and Leaf would be Fire’s nieces and look up to him a lot as well as to their awesome momma’s

actually with the half clan stuff you've been posting it reminds me.
What The Fuck is tigerstar the first's whole Deal with hating half clan cats but at the same time wanting to Unite All The Clans™️ [under himself]?? like.
if he succeeded with that it's almost certain that there would be relationships between tigerclan members who weren't originally in the same clan, and that's not really any different?
and. i guess it could be him writing it off as "oh no you can't be SURE where their loyalties would lie!!" but., obviously his own loyalties didn't align with the clan of his birth, seeing as he attempted a coup and then took over leadership of a rival clan once that failed. and he was thunderclan on Both sides of the family!
tyranny and bigotry ain't logical babes
(why am i like this with words i know i can't spell)
anyway. it's not logical. people aren't logical. bigotry ain't logical. tyranny ain't logical.
you can form a rationale, but that don't mean it's sound.
people have explored all sorts of relationships re. tigerclan in fics, and i don't want to bring up any specific examples lest i sound critical, but i think: tigerstar would have had to make a call. i don't know what it would have been, but he would have had to.
yeah, it's not any different, but it's not like. it's not like these things make sense. we can say, "well, they're one clan now," and okay, sure, that obviously breaks down the longer you pick at it, but it doesn't have to be logically sound. it just has to make sense to tigerstar,.
yeah he sure don't have loyalties...but he Thinks he does. that's what matters. i haven't read tigerclaw's fury and no one is allowed to tell me if it disagrees with my understanding of tigerstar bc i don't Want To Know. i'm out here in blissful ignornace bb.
anyway, no, it's not logical. i'm gonna ramble bout misty au under the cut, if you're not aware of that, brief summary (cws at the beginning, please read 'em), but no, it's not logical and that's because these things aren't.
anon i assume ur still here but mb not anyway.
thank u to the person who listened to me go through all of tigerstar's logic because my brain is Crystal Clear on this man. crystal clear.
and he fucking. has. kits with mistyfoot in the misty au? like damn dude that's Super Definitely Checks Out Makes Sense /s
like damn. he has a rationale for it:
also re the queen thing -- now that i'm already rambling about my own work, there's a Lot about that bit where tawnypelt says "have the queens eaten" and tigerstar says mistyfoot hasn't because like -- ordering a queen Should Be unthinkable. they get to do Whatever They Want. they are raising children. they are the most deadly warriors. you don't -- you don't fucking disrespect a queen. so he's being very -- hey riverclan, riverclan look how much fucking control i have. he already has leopardstar through stonefur, and mudfur through preventing mudfur from treating featherpaw (therefore impairing his usual free reign as a medicine cat). and there aren't any kits in riverclan atm, so tigerstar can't be a dick to the next big leadership position, but -- he can use mistyfoot for this. anyway sorry i've just put a Lot of thought into exactly why tigerstar does what he does how he does it
so. i told y'all i have thought this man's thought process out in Detail. this au is one of the most internally consistent things i've written.
(in that i have just, a very good internal idea of how everything works. that's what a hyperfixation does to u baby)
anyway. i mean but that's terrible logic, we can All agree that's terrible logic. not terrible in that "this wouldn't work as a control tactic" because it absolutely does, it's like, the whole reason mosspelt doesn't try to help featherpaw
and so mosspelt is now in this position where...she knew what was happening to her daughter, and...should she have tried harder? would that have made things worse? it certainly made things worse if mistyfoot interfered and remind me to explore the fact that all of riverclan is deeply aware of that fact like damn stone and storm missed a Lot that no one wants to talk about but...that's her daughter. and now, you know, pretty understandably, feathertail feels abandoned by her. and feathertail is So out of it. like she's just. so not there. as you tend to be when you're dying of sepsis. and mosspelt -- is no longer her mother in the sense that she would be a comforting presence to feathertail.
(sorry for the long paragraphs i was rambling in discord)
so like, it's great for a control tactic but is that really a good reason to justify having half clan kits. tigerstar what the fuck were you even planning on doing with the kits. were you going to kill them? i don't think so
Tigerstar snorts. "I'm not cruel, Mistyfoot. I know how to take care of a kit. After all, both of mine are still alive."
but like. how were you going to explain That hypocrisy.
and at the end of the day it's not logical, that's the thing. he's not doing this for any rationalization he makes. everything he says, even the fact that it's an excellent control tactic, is all a cover for "tigerstar is a fundamentally terrible person"
(He calls her Goldenflower, and even he seems surprised by the name.)
so yeah. it's illogical. that's how these things work.

what do you of "the man who sold the world" for fallenleaf? friend is getting me into nirvana and i cant do anything without thinking of the Beasts
Hmm... honestly? I think it fits other characters much better!
Man Who Sold The World always reads to me as like... a dangerous character, could be a demon, could be an evil parent, could be a more literal villain in some kind of story, who has unambiguously gotten its ass kicked and banished. In its defeat, it realizes that it can turn it around; by trying to convince one of their Victims to join them.
And succeeding.
(and it's why Nirvana's version is my favorite, Cobain's voice is just the right amount of hoarse that makes me feel like the Victim Character has lost a lot of sleep over it. Vulnerable and open to the offer of the Villain, possibly on the brink of desperation in their own life. It has that sort of angsty-young-adult madness that makes choosing bad decisions sooo much easier. Bowie's and Ure's versions are also fantastic, but imo they're a lot more dreamlike, like the victim is being more entranced than convinced!)
The song isn't about breaking out of that cycle. It's about "laughing and shaking his hand," returning home almost unaware of any change. But over many years, in tiny little ways that add up into even bigger ones, slowly the Victim becomes another man who sold the world.
They doesn't even realize when they died alone along their quest, just that it must have been long, long ago.
Some of that fits Fallenleaf, but it's not quite the same vibe. She killed Ashfur in revenge. She sought out Sol and took his deal for power, and tried to kill her own brother. She subjugated an entire Ancient Lake society-- and the only thing she can really blame Sol for is how it got bored of her and kicked her out of her own body.
Those were things she did. And they're things she lives with. Trickery was less a part of it than she might have wanted to believe at some point in her long, guilty life.
NATURALLY I'm inspired by Cheecat's really great animation they made with Brambleclaw and Tigerstar, and I think it fits Tigerstar to a T, but who I always think of is Hawkfrost.
Especially in BB, where RiverClan raised him to lean into his legacy. Not Clanborn, from a young age he had to work twice as hard, prove that he and his sister were "worth" keeping around, told that they were only protected by that diluted Tigerkin blood that trickles through their veins and that Tigerstar was an ideal to live up to...
Only the thinnest veneers of, "Be what he was, without his flaws" to hold him back from fully adopting everything his father ever stood for. A father he never met, who hurt his mother, who killed and traumatized countless clanmates.
And then Hawkfrost sees him. The song kicks in. "I thought you died alone, a long long time ago."
"Not me. I never lost control." It means that those "flaws," they weren't so bad. "You're face to face with the man who sold the world" and I can teach you the value of that.
He leaves that exchange feeling warm. "I laughed and shook his hand." He goes through the destruction of the forest (looking for form), the great journey (and land), and eventually finds himself in all the conflicts of TNP. No one knows at what point he stopped being the noble young warrior who stood up for Reedpaw against his tormenters, or when wanting to protect his sister became abuse and belittling.
But at some point, he died alone, long before his heart stopped beating on that stake.
He ends up in the Dark Forest with his father, preparing for the change that's coming in OotS, but not by the end of the song. At the end of the song his father has successfully dragged him down to his level, singing the same tune, trying to pretend that his dad getting him pointlessly shish-kebabed for a petty personal dispute wasn't a critical L to the chest.

Bramblestar is Tigerstar 1's son-- the same one I mentioned in the post. He is not good at all and is rather abusive to Squirrelflight, his mate/wife and also Firestar's daughter. He's painted in a good light by the narrative, but his actions very well fit the abuse cycle. He's not a good person. The series just has a thing against brown tabbies bc 99% of them are horrible people lmfao.
Bramblestar, while not cat hitler, is almost as bad as his father lmao. Tigerstar 1 also abused his two mates and plenty extra juicy plot stuff I won't say without spoiling.
Go watch Moonkitti's video on Bramble and you'll understand fmnffndjdndndndnd
bb im not gonna get into the politics of the kitty cats who fight a lot i just wanted to take the text for funsies i’ve only read like two chapters of the first book before getting bored bc im a lot more into high fantasy/psyc horror/comedy than YA fantasy/action
