In the universe of Mermaid Splash
Summary: When your book falls into the sea, you come face to face with the fascinating merman who retrieves it.
Pairing: Satan x GN Reader/MC
Genre: Fluff.
Warnings: None.

Author's Note: While this work makes a few references to Mermaid Splash, you don't have to have read that one to understand it.

It felt so rude to stare, but Satan had never seen anyone’s attention so rapt before. Then again, it wasn't as if Satan had even met other merpeople who were avid readers, other than a few of his brothers.
It was nice to observe a human taking advantage of the privilege of reading.
Satan envied humans for their access to books, he could only get the ones claimed by the waves in shipwrecks. What he wouldn’t give to be able to visit a library, just once, like the ones he’d read about.
Many of the humans he had encountered were foolish sailors who placed more value on riches rather than knowledge. So when they succumbed to the song of Satan and his brothers, he didn't care one bit if their lives were lost to the unforgiving depths.
But you seemed different.
You stretched and crossed one leg over the other on the rail of the ship where you had perched yourself as you read, completely oblivious to the revelry on deck.
He was fascinated with the line of your muscles, the way they were able to keep you rooted in such a precarious location despite gravity, wind, and the bobbing of the ship fighting against you. It looked like it could be a comfortable position for reading, but Satan really couldn't say himself. His lower half was different from yours and he didn't have the same capabilities. Not to mention he was rarely, if ever, totally out of the water.
You turned on your side, facing the water, your legs still crossed at the ankle, the shape not unlike a merperson's tail. You gave a blissful sigh as you turned another page, leaning lazily on one arm.
Beautiful.
He could watch you read for hours. There was something so lovely in the way your gaze skimmed the page, the little expressions you made when you read something you liked. He saw you mouth a word you seemed to be unfamiliar with a few times until it felt comfortable on your lips, giving a satisfied smile as you pronounced it once more and then moved on to the next sentence.
Satan’s heart clenched. He did that too (or he used to, he’d already read the books in his collection several times through). It was comforting to know that humans and merpeople weren't all that different, even in little quirks like that. And maybe that meant he had a chance for happiness with his partner.
Asmo deserved that, at least, for all he had gone through.
A breeze picked up and the ship bobbed against the building current. You reached down to brace yourself against the rail, but in doing so you lost hold of your book and it plummeted into the sea.
“No, no, no!” You cried, hopping back onto deck.
“Lost another book over the side?” Someone called after you.
“Not this time!” Your voice faded away as you ran down into the ship.
You couldn't bear to lose another book, this was the seventh one yet and you didn't have the money to replace it. The story was really getting good, too. If you ran fast enough, maybe you could catch it before it sank under the waves.
You threw open the large porthole on the lower deck around where your book had dropped. The book had already begun to drift away but thankfully it still floated on the surface of the water.
Silently cursing yourself for not thinking to grab a net on your way there, you rolled up your sleeves and reached out to try to grab it.
It was too far away.
You looked around the room for something you could use to retrieve it, but there was nothing but tangles of old rope and empty wooden crates.
Now there was an idea…
You dragged a crate up to the wall under the porthole and stepped up onto it. You pushed your shoulders out of the porthole and stretched as far as you could, the green sea churning just a few feet below you, with only one hand as your anchor to the ship. You probably should have made use of the rope, but you had no time for regret.
“Almost…” You could feel your fingers slipping against the edge of the windowsill, but you needed to retrieve your book. Now.
You stretched as far as you could but the book was still too far away. Your fingertips didn't even brush the cover.
Ripples lapped at the pages, and it almost felt as if the sea was taunting you for your loss, keeping the book just out of your reach.
And in one fell swoop it was swallowed by a wave.
“No!” You sagged against the porthole, disappointed and near tears. Your poor book was lost to the sea.
“You should be more careful,” said a gentle voice.
“I know!” You sniffed, burying your face in your folded arms that leaned over the windowsill. “I just couldn't help it. The breeze felt so nice tonight, and sunset is the perfect time for reading.” The crew would never let you live this one down. Mephisto had already lectured you about making “frivolous” purchases, now he had a reason to tear into you about carelessness.
“You’re lucky I was here,” They pressed the book into your hands, prompting you to look up from your wallowing.
You blinked a few times to clear your vision, “Thank y–” It took you a moment to register what you were seeing.
A handsome man, wearing nothing but a single string of pearls, with golden hair and eyes the color of the ocean, floated in the water next to the ship, his emerald green tail swishing behind him.
You screamed.
Of course Satan had to come to your rescue. It was only right as a fellow bibliophile, although now he was starting to regret that decision.
“Please stop,” He tucked his tail underneath himself and treaded water.
You clutched the sopping wet book in your hands, dripping seawater onto the deck as you began loudly rambling something about not getting enough sleep or reading too many fairytales.
Satan needed to calm you before someone else came to find out what was going on. It would do him no good to have the entire ship, likely stocked with tools meant to catch and maim sea creatures, to be up in arms. How embarrassing would it be for a Prince of the Sea to be killed over a book?
“You know, that book of yours is salvageable.” He said, hoping to distract you from your panicking.
You hugged the book against your chest, “It- it is?” You stammered.
“Stand it on its end and fan out the pages and leave it by an open window, don’t touch it until you’re sure it’s dry. It might take a few days.”
You looked from him to the book and then back to him, “How do you know that?”
He gave a patronizing smile. “I take it you're finished?”
You inhaled a deep, shaking breath. Your eyes were still wide in shock, but at least you weren't screaming anymore.
You nodded, your cheeks growing warm. “I’m sorry. I just. I’ve never seen a merperson before. I didn't even think they were real.”
“Oh, I can assure you, we’re very real.” He snapped his tail up behind him.
You gasped. What a cute reaction.
“Um…” You said, trying to regain your composure, “Thank you for saving my book.”
You cradled it in your arms as if it was your most prized possession, and Satan thought he would melt into seafoam on the spot.
“Yes, well,” He looked away, blush blooming on his cheeks. You were even more lovely up close. “I might have kept it for myself if I didn’t already have the same book in my collection.”
“You collect– do you keep them under the sea?” You asked, cocking your head adorably.
“Of course not,” he chuckled, “I keep them in a cave, safe from the elements.”
“Oh, naturally,” you quipped, a playful twinkle in your eye.
So you weren't just pretty to look at, but clever too. He liked that. Really liked that.
“How else would I know the proper way to dry and preserve books? Waterlogged paper doesn’t make for good reading.” He said.
“No it doesn’t…” You looked down sheepishly at the damp leather and soaked pages.
“But if you heed my advice you won’t have that issue. Just don’t leave it too close to the open window.” He teased.
“I won’t, I promise.”
You seemed to study him with such probing, bright eyes. As if trying to figure out exactly how he worked, which Satan realized with a pang was exactly how he had watched you earlier. The thought made him feel almost giddy, it was as if the two of you were on the same page.
Satan swam up a little closer to you, languidly sweeping his tail out behind him so you could get a good look at his fins, his scales glittering in the low light of sunset. “So, which one were you reading?” He asked.
“Huh?” You blinked, distracted by his physique.
“Which story?” The book you had almost lost was a volume of Greek myths, one Satan had read so many times he nearly had it memorized. It seemed you had good taste in literature as well.
“Oh, I was reading the story of Orpheus and Eurydice,” you grinned. “Orpheus was just about to begin his journey out of the underworld when I dropped my book. Thanks to you, I get to read how it ends.” You appeared to be very excited.
“I see…” Satan frowned.
“What is it? Do you not like that story?”
You seemed to want his approval. Did that mean you sensed a connection the way he did? Satan could only hope.
“No, on the contrary, I love it, it’s one of my favorites. It’s just…” His expression was cryptic, “I’d recommend reading Eros and Psyche next.” Satan turned to leave, he could hear your fellow crew members calling for you up on deck.
“Why that one next?” You wanted him to stay, to prolong the time so you could learn more about this handsome merman you'd been fortunate enough to cross paths with. If only Mephisto hadn't chosen that moment to start bellowing.
“Just trust me.” He flashed a smile that almost made you swoon, “Next time you’ll have to tell me what you think.”
“Next time?” Your heart was practically beating out of your chest. “Does that mean I’ll see you again?”
“Perhaps…” He gave a wink over his shoulder before diving into the sea, his beautiful tail flicking up over the water before disappearing beneath the waves.

Into the Deep
A Leviathan x GN! MC fanfic
4.4k words
Genre: Angst/fluff? idk
Trigger warnings: mention of death & violence, itty bit of blood? Read at your own discretion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"His consciousness is flickering, as if a candle at the end of its life..."
"...It was just a brief moment yet the sight, the sensation dispersed all the discomfort coursing through his whole being."
He could feel it… the strong gust of winds hitting his back. It was burning hot. It was so painful, he wanted to scream so bad. Yet in his current state, he couldn’t do that.
Leviathan is falling. Falling from the sky; from that bright, holy land.
Ahh… It's not the wind… His half-lidded eyes watched the blood-soaked feathers fluttering in the air. It was his wings. As if he were Icarus shedding after straying too far, taking no heed of his father’s words. Realizing his mistake when it was finally too late, when he’s already falling to his demise.
But Leviathan didn’t do anything wrong. The only sin he truly committed is loving his sister. It was bound to end up that way. Whether they are archangels or not, it won’t change the fact that they clashed against their father and consequently, the whole Celestial Realm.
They were outnumbered. Forcibly scattered and ultimately, defeated. They were thrown off the place they once called home.
But right now, being pulled out of his roots is the least of his problems. He is plummeting fast, with his bloody wings crumbling into nothingness. A tattered body who could barely move, with no one to save him at all.
Maybe this is how it will all end. This is as far as he can get.
He didn’t regret fighting with his brothers. Though, not being able to say goodbye is pretty sad.
He could feel it. The end of his eternity. As he closes in the surface, he could sense the tanginess and saltiness of the breeze.
Before his mind could take in why, he hit the surface. Hard. It bashed all the air off his lungs. And then he sunk… deeper, the saltiness stung his eyes; it seeped and burned through his deep, painful wounds. The water rakes in his lungs. He thrash, he flails yet it was all in vain. He’s far too wounded to properly swim. Everything hurts...
Is this... death? Images of his family flashed before his eyes. Of Mammon playing with him as a child, Asmodeus teasing him, twins embracing him, Lucifer patting his head. Of... Lilith, smiling at him.
Where are they right now? Are they in pain as he is?
I hope... they're fine... His consciousness is flickering, as if a candle at the end of its life. Drifting further and further, into the dark blue hue of the abyss he is in. Into the darkness he's never seen before.
And then, he saw it. A silhouette swimming down towards him.
Lilith... No, are you the god of death...? As his eyes shut, his awareness slipping away from him, he felt something.
A soft sensation touching firmly over his lips, nape and back. It was warm, and soft like a flesh—
Leviathan's eyes snapped open, as air rushed from his mouth to his lungs. What he saw was a face extremely close to him. Their noses brushing to each other... Their locks flowing in the water.
It was just a brief moment yet the sight, the sensation dispersed all the discomfort coursing through his whole being.
As they parted, he coughed, remembering the stinging pain from the fall and drowning.
He forgot because of the mysterious person in front of him. Instinctively he took a deep breath and... Huh...?
His orbs almost popped from his skull, staring at the person in front of him, shocked.
"How..." He spoke, which ignited more confusion and bewilderment. How in the world can he breathe underwater? Much more, speak?
"Are you alright?" Instead of answering them, Leviathan observes the person.
Huh?! A—! A MERMAID?! I was just saved by a mermaid?! Mermaids exist?! But— How?? I— Am I actually dead?! Is this the pre-death hallucinations I’m experiencing?! Is that even possi—
The mermaid suddenly laughed, interrupting Leviathan of his thoughts.
"If you can think like that and make all sorts of.. pff— faces, then I guess you're alright." Holding their stomach, they laughed, which made the purple-head blush a little.
...Huh..? Think? What do they mean by—
They cleared their throat, "Oh, I apologize, but I can actually hear your thoughts." They giggled, and in a few moments, Leviathan turned as red as the blood he shed a while ago.
Right… He was beaten and bruised a while ago. But for some reason, nothing’s painful anymore. “Am I dead?”
“What? No, you’re alive and well.”
“But– or is this a dream?”
“And what? I don’t really exist? You’re rude....” they huff, “and it was also rude of you just now. Like, you look more like the god of death than I am.” Leviathan stared at the entity before him as if they just grew another head.
“What?” What are they saying? A pure white angel looks like a death god? “But I’m an archangel. I’ve never seen a death god with a halo—” but when he touched his head, it was not the warm ring he felt, but a cold, branching-like structure, poking on both sides. “What is thi...” Confused, he tried pulling on it, only to jerk from the dull pain. At the same time something hit his nape lightly and when he glanced behind, he saw a black, scaly tail, seemingly belonging to a snake. Tracing it’s sight, it was attached to none other than the small of his back.
“Hey Mister. Are you sure you're an angel, and not a demon? I mean, you felt like one, bu...” all the sound beneath the water disappeared as Leviathan delves in his thoughts
Demon..? Me, a demon? But I am an angel… He tried to flap his wings but instead, it’s the tail that moves and hits his back pretty hard. Ahh, right… I’m a fallen angel, then of course I’ll become a disgusting demon. But a demon?! I’d rather die than became a repulsi—
“HEY! You’re really rude aren’t you? Don’t just ignore your savior as you pleased, seriously.” The mermaid shakes him back to reality.
“Don’t call a demon disgusting just because you were once an angel. Well, they may have caused you all sorts of trouble when you’re still an angel, but not everyone is as bad as you think they are. You haven’t even met every single one of them to conclude that.”
“Why? Have you ever met one to say that?”
“Yep, once.”
“And you’re saying you’re lucky enough to meet a nice one?”
“Yup, though I would say he’s rather rude for someone who's just been saved.” Leviathan stared at them before he understood what they meant.
“I’m not a demon!” Pissed, he roared, scaring all the fishes and sea creatures nearby, and with a force pushing the mermaid a few inches away. Even the man himself was shocked by what he just did.
“Ah– no, I!” He reached out but promptly pulled back, in fear of hurting the one who saved him.
“Hah… What a troublesome fellow... Look here,” they gently placed their hand atop his head, “Do you really think you can hurt me? In my own turf?” and in that moment, the fallen angel couldn’t take his eyes off the mysterious being, as swiftly yet gracefully, they swam around him. It was like a show, like they were dancing to the song of the whales faraway, of chiming clams and whispers of the tide. Their locks swaying like an iridescent jellyfish, orbs glimmering like sparkling gems. Their scales are prismatic, as if the lustrous surface of the ocean when the light and skies were reflected to it. “Breathing and floating doesn’t make you swim faster than me. I’m the fastest swimmer here, you know.” gently, they took him by the hand, swimming to the flow of water without breaking their gaze on him.
“Whether you were once an angel, or a demon right now, don’t you think you’re actually lucky?”
“Yeah, if facing a war with my father, being separated from my siblings, being thrown out of my homeland, becoming a demon and almost dying just a while ago is what you call lucky, then no thanks. I’d rather be unlucky forever.”
“Ohh, what a rough life.” They whistled, “But you're still lucky. You met me, so instead of dying you can now breathe and casually wade underwater, right?”
You consider becoming a demon fish lucky?
“Oi, what’s your problem with fishes, huh? You wanna fight?” they huff as they continued drifting away.
“Right, you can read my thoughts.”
“Just think about it. You lived high above the skies for who knows how long. You got here and can roam the ocean anytime. And if you were to head to Devildom, you can live a normal life there. Oh, even in Human world, seriously… I'd kill for a blessing like that.” They pout.
Leviathan stared at the mermaid in front of him, “...maybe you’re right.” a smile formed in his face yet, the uncertainty in his expression didn’t slip the mermaid’s sharp eyes.
“How about your siblings? Did they fight along with you?” The man casts his eyes away from them.
“...They did.”
They peered sideward, trying to catch his gaze back. “Are they strong?”
His heart thumps rather strongly for a second. “The strongest. They're the best.” And his smile spreads wider.
“They'll make it.” It was as though their words worked wonders, filling his chest of unexplained confidence and ease; purifying his core of its bleakness. His hope, his faith with his siblings, everything that made him feel miserable seems to vanish with the tides.
“Ah, and if they were also banished like you, I’m sure you’ll find them in Devildom.”
“Heh, how certain are you? They could just stay in the human world rather than that repulsive place. You haven't even met them.”
“Well, you have no choice. You’re like newborn demons with unfamiliar, uncontrollable powers. Vulnerable to wizards and witches. But at least, you're former archangels. You possess the potential the Devildom’s Ruler would want as aides. With the right cards, he’ll shelter you and even help search for missing siblings. Let’s make a bet for it!”
The demon sighs before chuckling, “Yeah, you're right. Though you’re betting is a bit rigged. You already know you’ll win.”
“Then, how about we make it so that even if one of your siblings weren't waltzing on the face of Devildom, you win? If I win, give me something special. Otherwise, I’ll give you… hmm… everything I possess.” Leviathan instantly jolted, stopping them from their smooth ride in the waves.
“Wha– Are you insane? You’re offering everything to a complete stranger? You’re worse than a compulsive gambler!”
“Why? It's more fun this way.” A sneer at him with words like that left Leviathan speechless. “So, you in?”
“...No thanks. I already received enough. I don’t need any more from you.”
“Ehh.. really? I wonder about that...” unamused, they pulled him in somewhat of an embrace, his chest placed above their stomach, and continued drifting. “Though, if I may say, comforting a stranger is not an easy task. And you also don’t look like the type who will just let a stranger drag him just anywhere.” That’s the time he finally realized… they’re already far from his dropping point. When they started dragging him, he didn't get a single clue.
But before the demon could even react, the mermaid hoisted him on their chest, flipped him underneath before swimming fast towards the same direction.
In no time, they finally stopped, the confused, woozy Leviathan feeling nauseous from the ride.
“We’re here! Welcome to my place!” They chirped like no one's glaring daggers at them.
Leviathan on the other hand, although glaring, is holding on their shoulder for support. “Seriously! What’s your..” a smile from them shut him up and a glance around their surroundings to make him forget his words.
“Beautiful right?” It was not only beautiful.
He never knew he'd ever see the Celestial Realm underwater.
Lush, vibrant corals in all sorts of shapes and sizes fill the seabed of azure plains. Fishes were sparkling glitters swirling uniformly as if a staff casted a spell. Sea creatures he never knew existed drifting back and forth. The sea plants swaying gracefully on the current. He saw everything, in all shades of colors and hues, like he witnessed a rainbow mixing its own colors. Like a sight taken from the Celestial Realm. And as he glanced back to the mermaid beside him…
It was breathtaking… beyond words…
“Right?” gliding elegantly between the coral reefs, they replied to his unvoiced response. “It took me a great deal to build this. Ahh, look here.” His eyes followed their hands as it brushed a black spiky coral reef with a touch of purple. They then swam back beside him.
“It looks a lot like,” they caressed his horn, sending shivers to his spine and a tint of red blooming on his cheeks, “this. Doesn’t it look like a crown befitting the sea king? I like it.”
“Hey, stop it! Where does that even come from?” He pried their hands off, also to hide his blushing.
“Why? Wouldn’t it be cool if I had one? Also, this.” Leviathan jolted forward as the mermaid held his tail. “Black snake scales are cooler than fish scales. It’s easier to manage too.”
“I said stop it!” He pulled his tail from their grasp. “Geez...” They brushed their fin, ignoring him. “What do you expect? You’re a mermaid. A half-fish, not a half-snake.”
“Ahhh... I wanna have legs like this stranger...” They whine, plopping lazily on the seabed.
“And what are you going to do with my legs? What’s your name anyways? You’ve been acting all chummy. I kept forgetting I don’t even know you.”
“Took you long enough to ask. I’m Y/N, the most beautiful mermaid out there. You?”
“Leviathan. So, is bugging and teasing a lost lamb like me your hobby?”
“Heh, lamb… You’re really rude, aren’t you? I’m just being hospitable to a guest. You’re the first after hundreds of years… or thousands maybe? Well, now that you’ve seen my home, are you interested in my bet now? I can give you everything here.”
“Absolutely. NO! You’re so shady! You’re no different than the folklore of claiming my soul or something if I agree with you! I bet all of this is just an illusion and you’re just luring me to your trap! Everything is too good to be true!”
“Ehh, boring… If I want your soul, I should have just taken it while you’re on your last breath.” they float around him, “I’m just so bored is all.”
“If you’re bored, then play with other mermaids! Don’t make me your toy, geez.”
“...Mermaids, huh...” For a second, Leviathan caught a glimpse of a void within their irises. Whether it was his imagination, he has no way of finding out. “Anyways, I haven’t shown you my baby yet!”
Without even giving him a chance to breathe from all the events happening, they pulled him somewhere, again.
He hoped he stopped the mermaid in time. That way, he shouldn’t be experiencing another life-and-death situation.
“D-d-don’t t-tell me you actually brought me here to f-f-feed me to t-t-this creature?!” Leviathan was trembling as he clutched both of the mermaid’s arms, hiding behind them. Why wouldn’t he? Seven pairs of orbs were staring down at him. Those sharp eyes are impaling through his soul, as if assessing how they would rip him into pieces. It has seven heads, each has protruding fangs that could easily tear him to shreds. Long necks that could squeeze the life out of him. It was a monster. A monster he had never seen before.
“What? No. Lotan is a good boy. right, Lotan? Come here.” Leviathan jumps meters away as the monster lowers one of his seven heads.
“Who’s the good boy, hmm? Lotan is!” He couldn’t even tell whether to be terrified or amazed at this point. He is witnessing an unbelievable sight. A giant sea monster, who could squash someone in a single blow is before him. Yet, it was melting to the touch of a mystic mermaid, as if it were the most docile pet ever.
“Just so you know, Lotan doesn't hurt good people. I raised him to be one after all. He’s also intelligent. The best I could ever ask for a right hand and companion.”
Leviathan came into realization. As though he just found the missing piece of the puzzle.
Creases forms between Leviathan’s brows as he senses the weird air round them again. And he felt he knew what’s going on.
“Y/N, let me ask you something.” He gulped, having second thoughts of prying over someone else’s lid. “...where are the other mermaids?”
Caught off-guard of his question, they faltered for a bit, “Why? One mermaid is not enough for you?” They try to make light of it but Leviathan knew it was not something he could just ignore. Not with the situation they are in right now. Not with his presence in their realm.
Leviathan may be clueless of mermaids’ existence, but that’s probably because of the lack of evidence and the vastness of the ocean. It was the first time he had ever seen one, but he had some knowledge from the books he read and legends he heard. And according to it, mermaids are rare beings that could bring lifelong blessings to anyone who has seen one. “Where are the other mermaids?” ...a rare being that brings blessings…
Resigning to him, they closed their eyelids. When they opened it, the corner of their lips ascended. Wistful mist shrouding their eyes. At that time, Leviathan could hear his heart shatter into pieces. “Who knows… The last time I saw one was when we had a guest over. I’ve been the sole ruler of this place since then.” His eyes felt hot, like it wanted to be a channel of the pain they wouldn’t release. “Hey, don’t make that funny face. It doesn't suit you—”
“Why did you bring me in? Shouldn’t you be wary of strangers? What if I were also a threat like them?”
“Really? You? The one sulking because he grew horns and tail moments ago?”
“Then what if I were just a bait, huh?”
“A half-dead snake won’t pass as bait to me.”
“That’s not the point! I’m a demon! My presence is screaming danger! Why would you bring danger to your home and repeat the past?!”
“Okay, calm down...” They sighed before pulling him on a nearby rock. “Yeah, I know what I did was foolish. And I’ve been much more careful before you. But after living for thousands of years, I think evading is not the right choice. Even my clan came up with the same answer, considering they helped the beings who obliterated my kingdom and seized my kind.”
“But didn’t they fail and lose everything?”
“And what did I bet you?” … Everything…
“I’ve been protecting everything they left me with all my might since the day they all disappeared, as I hid in the shadows. But surviving for a long time this way… Can I truly say I’m alive, or am I merely existing?”
Leviathan’s lips shriveled, shutting all words he wanted to express. He never thought of it, even though he’s also been alive a long time. Living with his family. Doing what he wants to. He has been living his life freely. Unlike them.
They were all alone, shackled to the throne and loneliness. He can never understand what they’ve been through.
“I already want to give up. I was... That is until I saw a snake on the verge of death. His thoughts were so loud, I could hear it even if he is yet to become a sea creature. A being longing for his family... like I did back then. Like I still do. So if you’re wondering if I’m throwing my life away, no I don’t. I’m simply gambling with you to find my own answer and make up my own mind… Though, I don’t think it’ll be possible.”
“To find your answer?”
“To make this bet with you. You’re too kindhearted and probably hate such a big responsibility. And I already found it in our conversation. Let’s just change the stakes, shall we?”
“I don’t see the purpose of this bet, then.”
“Ehh, you still owe me your life, you know. Let me be selfish for once and just agree, will you? Let’s both wager to be something special. I promise this won’t be needing such a big responsibility as ruling the whole ocean. I’ll even help you get to Devildom.”
“Okay, alright. I accept your proposal… But at least tell me. Why do we need to make such a bet?”
“Hmm… dunno, some sort of insurance? So I could see you once more.”
“...You don’t have to make any bets and such. I will visit you even without such a thing.”
They shook their head, “It’ll be more fun this way. So you will look forward to our next meeting if you ever win. So I’ll last longer in your memories.”
They didn’t have to go such lengths anymore. Leviathan is already certain. They are already engraved in his mind for the rest of his long life. There’s no way he could ever forget such a person, even on his deathbed. They…
“Hmm. Watch me win this bet.” … a being who gave him a second chance and newfound hope. A lifeform who basks with their own despair. An existence filled with contradictions…
“I found my answer.” They said, “I won’t hide like a turtle in its shell anymore. I’ll live my life to the fullest, and I will give life to this kingdom my ancestors left me. I just have one favor to ask you.”
“What is it?” He was drawn into their sparkling eyes, like how they were into his.
“Please. Be the—”
“...evi… Levi… Devildom to Leviathan!! My gosh, are you ignoring me?” Asmodeus shook him as he dazely moved his nimble fingers on the gamepad, speedrunning an rpg-romance game he could finish with his eyes closed.
“What?” He removed his headphones after he paused his game. Behind him stands the fifth-born, second-born and the human exchange student living with them for a year.
“You told me you’ll help me shop for a fine fabric for the clothes we’ll make. We’re already leaving so why are you still playing?”
“Huh? I already added some to the cart.”
“Add to cart– Levi, we’re shopping on Majolish! And here I am excited to shop with my brother who rarely leaves his room! We barely spend time together!”
“Ehh? So troublesome. I still have a game to finish later, and you’re the one who didn’t clear up that we’ll be shopping on Majolish and not Akuzon.” He placed his headphones back and pressed continue.
“You should have mentioned it. When you say shopping to Levi, Akuzon is the first thing that’ll come to his mind...” MC sighed.
“Yep, that’s Levi for ya.” Mammon agreed.
“No matter. Levi is coming with us to majolish today!”
“I refuse. I’m busy.”
“You… Then forget it and indulge with your romance game, you shut-in! I bet no one has ever kissed you in real life!” At this point, Asmodeus already gave up with his plans and just insulted Leviathan to vent his anger.
“Too bad, but someone already did.” Leviathan nonchalantly replied, still playing his game. At first, no one understood his words. Yet after a few moments, the three glanced at each other, confirming if they all heard it right.
“Someone… what?” MC was the first one who recovered from the trance.
“You’re joking. No way, that’s impossible.” Mammon on the other hand snorted.
“Who? How?” Forgetting their purpose in the room, much less his anger, Asmodeus stared at his third brother, wide eyed.
Yet, without saying anymore, Leviathan smirked confidently, his eyes not leaving the screen.
“Impossible…” Mammon gaped, with a trace of disbelief and bewilderment.
“Who is it? Tell us, tell us!” Their purpose in the room already forgotten, Asmodeus chirped as he clung to Leviathan.
It was such a wistful memory, leaving a sour yet sweet taste in his tongue.
Back then he met them once more, receiving his prize after 'winning' the bet. “I told you, even if one of your siblings weren't waltzing on the face of Devildom, you win. A deal's a deal.” is what they said, insisting he take his prize and treasure it.
All his siblings were present in the Devildom the time he met them, except… He didn’t see his sister’s form anymore. The mermaid saw through it, and insisted on taking their prize.
Surreal… It was like a vivid dream, yet Lotan was proof its former master really existed. He received their beloved right hand and the privilege to rule a large platoon of sea creatures. Was it to console him again? Or to give a better life to Lotan? Maybe it was related to the favor they asked him. He never found out the answer to his question.
Me being alive at this moment… Is more than enough proof I met you. You didn’t really have to go such lengths...
“Please be the witness. That this kingdom lived. That my ancestors… that I existed.” amidst their clear, sparkling eyes meeting his own, they asked him a favor.
You don’t have to ask either. I’ll be a living witness… a proof of your existence.
“Okay, alright! Stop shaking me, geez! I’ll tell the whole story to everyone later, during dinner at the Demon Lord’s Castle. I’ve been thinking of telling Diavolo about them anyways.”
“Yes!!” The three rowdy people in Leviathan’s room high-fived themselves.
He never seen them since then. Yet, it was the most beautiful moment of his life. They were the most beautiful moment in his life. Like an unrealized dream he discovered the second he set his eyes on them.
Like they gave him the second chance in life, he will keep their tale alive, through the books he wrote anonymously and now, through the history of the Devildom itself. He’ll make their wish a reality. So wherever they are right now, he hoped they could still hear his thoughts, and continue smiling brightly, exactly how he saw them that day.
Finally done editing!! I posted it as promised~~ I am also finally contented with the ending of this. I've been pondering over it the whole time that I ended up holding this one since I wrote this. Don't ask since when, it's been months because it was buried under my school works hehehe.
I always have this headcanon that Leviathan had been to the ocean before he came to Devildom and meet his brothers again and gain an ability to breathe underwater. That he got Lotan from someone, that's why I wipped this whole fic up, nyehehehe.
What happened next, I'll leave it to your imaginations *winkies* Time to jump on another fic~~

Asmodeus X MC: Shy
(genderless MC)
Originally written May 2020

It was obvious to Asmodeus that you were shy; even though you attempted to act like you weren't, it was in vain. This time in particular, Asmodeus held the door for you while you were shopping around a human mall. It made you flustered and splutter about how you could have done it, and he simply giggled.
"But I couldn't let such beautiful hands touch the door, _____~" He gave you his beautiful smile, and your heart melted at the sight of it. "Besides, you're always being so kind, I may as well return the favor~"
You blushed and attempted to hide your face in your jacket, but to no avail. "A-Asmo..."
He giggled and courted you to the Hot Topic. "Is this the store you were talking about?" You gave a small nod, hoping he wouldn't be too judgemental about the interior. Before you could open your mouth, he pulled you in and gasped. "Wow!" He pulled you over to the band shirts. "You would look so cute in these!"
"Asmo, you're gonna scare the emos..." You giggled quietly and fumbled. "Besides, w-we should get things you'll look good in... l-like the fishnets!"
"F-FISHNETS!?" He whipped his head around in search for the fishnets, then dragged you along with him towards them after spotting them. "OOOH! So sexy~ We should both get some, _____." He grabbed them and looked at the back. "One size fits all; perfect~ Body inclusion!" He beamed at you and twirled you around.
"A-Asmo...!"
He kissed your head and looked around. "Why do they only have black nail polish!? Where is the pink?" A few emos gave him dirty looks, while others totally agreed. "Ooh! Makeup!" He tugged you along like a distracted puppy. "What's The Little Mermaid? Why is it a makeup palette? Oooh, I should swatch it on you~"
You shook your head and giggled, attempting to hide yourself. "Stooop."
"Awww, you're so cute when you're shy!"
"I-I'm not shy!"
"Oh yeah?" He kissed you softly, and all the emos stared. Your face heated up, but you didn't dare pull away. When he was done, he smirked at you. "Shy~"
"That's cheating!"

I was thinking about the idea on ‘if’ they did a Beauty and The Beast event and it focuses on Satan x MC. So (I’m just gonna go with Disney idea events for right now) I had a thought for the other brothers and which event would pair them with Mc. So not like the one where everyone wanted MC or anything? (Cause I know some players have their favorites so they would rather have MC pick one brother over the other).
I’m not doing Cinderella cause they did that one already and technically Simeon was the prince. Also the ones I mention are also probably at least one of their favorite Disney movies
Beauty and The Beast is already decided for Satan, thats settled.
I wanna say Sleeping Beauty for Belphie? But like why do I get the feeling the roles would be reversed because Belphie represents sloth. Oh my god the fairies. Asmo (I can’t remember the names) is the red one, blue probably mammon, and green is probably Beel or Solomon. Maybe it’s cause I love the idea of Lucifer being Maleficent too, then again they made him the Queen of Hearts in another Disney event. So maybe Solomon could be maleficent since he does magic
Honestly, Tangled for Mammon and MC. I see Flynn Rider and he seems pretty Mammon like to me. Gothel? Asmo? Gothel wanted to stay young and beautiful forever so I mean, probably.
Princess and The Frog could be Asmodeus x MC. Think about it, Naveen was a prince that was of course charming and flirty. Could honestly have any girl he wanted in the beginning of the movie. In the end he really loved Tiana only. Seems fitting for the Asmo x MC pair. Also I like the idea of Satan or Solomon being Dr. Facilier.
The Little Mermaid for Levi. I don’t think I have to explain why, but it’s another one where the roles could be reversed with MC playing Eric’s part. Cause just imagine Levi in a mermaid tail? That seems fitting
I keep picturing Beel as Hercules and it won’t leave my head. Both are red heads and buff as all get out with a good heart. Don’t know what else to say
Lucifer seems kinda hard. Cause Beauty and The Beast COULD fit, but it fits Satan way more in my opinion. I was kinda stuck, but I settled on Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. Hear me out, this took a bit. I’m still not even sure if this fits. However, Snow White is one of the purest Disney Princess, so in general I think Lucifer would have a slight soft spot for the movie in general. A pure heart and fairest of all MC would attract Lucifer and I think it works? If you have another idea for Lucifer I would like to hear it cause I’m still not sure if I made the right hc here
Ok my knowledge of Disney movies is super fuzzy and I’ve never seen Tangled or The Princess and the Frog, but these all sound so fun and accurate? The Little Mermaid was definitely my first thought for Levi too! Especially with him taking Ariel’s place as a mermaid or, if you wanna go the demonic route, a siren.
Belphie as Sleeping Beauty would be so cute, too?? I’m in love with that idea. While Lucifer fits the villain roles really well, Solomon does seem like a beter fit in this instance. However, the version of Maleficent in the film focused on her? From what I remember of it, I think that it would suit Lucifer well. Doesn’t she get betrayed and loses her wings kind of like Luci did? I’m not sure where MC would fit into it tho. Snow White is a great choice for him too. There’s been multiple times where he talks about being drawn to bright and pure souls, and Snow White definitely fits the bill. His brothers could easily fill the roles of the dwarves too.
Also Beel??? As Hercules??? Hnnnn I love. I wonder who would fill the role of Hades tho 🤔

28. "Gosh you look like angel..." Asmo x MC ^^
OOOH this is too cute!! Love this pairing of fluff and Asmo! Thanks for making a request
Asmodeus (Obey Me!) - Prompt #28 - “Gosh, you look like an angel…”
You lived out today as if it were any other day, because, well, it was. Birthdays weren’t all that important to you, it just meant you were a year older. Though you didn’t care much about it, you did find it endearing that the brothers decided to throw you a makeshift ball when Mammon found out that your birthday was going to be tomorrow. All you wanted to do was have a nice birthday dinner but that wasn’t enough.
“MCCCCCC you HAVE to have a partyyyy!!” shouted Asmo as you were explaining that it was no big deal and none of the brothers had to go to such lengths for tomorrow. But even though you said not to, Lucifer was ordering Mammon and Levi to put decor up as Beel and Satan moved furniture and Belphie swept the wooden floors.Currently the House of Lamentation was chaos and Asmodeus was “helping” by drawing a birthday card. He had good intentions, but he wasn’t the most gifted artist, most of his artistic skill, in fact all of his artistic skill seemed to lie with makeup and fashion, not pen and paper. He drew a lopsided teddy bear and colored it pink, because he knew that was both his and your favorite color. With them all working hard and Asmo giggling happily at his drawings, you decided to scuttle off back to your room since it was nearly 12:30 a.m. and unlike the average demon, you had to sleep every night. Asmo peeked at you walking away and went to retrieve something from his room.
You were getting ready for bed when you heard a knock at the door, you opened it and it was none other than Asmodeus holding a beautifully wrapped box with a pink satin bow on it.
“I know you don’t care about your birthday too much, so, to get you excited I decided to give you a gift! Wear this for the party and you’ll be even more gorgeous than you normally are! Not as hot as me, but you’ll be a very close second.”
You chuckled, “aww Asmo, thank you for the gift,” you said, heading straight for the package (winky wink, nah just the birthday present lol)
“Wait!” he shouted, “you can’t open this until tomorrow, silly,” he said with a playful wink. You jokingly rolled your eyes and agreed to his conditions. He handed you the present and for a split second you saw the most tender look in his amber-orange eyes,
“Happy birthday, MC. I’m actually super happy that I get to spend tomorrow with you. And that I get to be all dressed up and hot for your birthday ball.” You brushed it off as just being kind, you never thought of Asmo as the type to be lovey dovey and you certainly didn’t come off as that type either, though secretly all you wanted to do was cuddle up with him for the night. But alas, while the Avatar of lust flirted constantly, you never thought he meant it. As your train of thoughts went down this track, it made you feel quite sad and you wouldn’t want to go to bed feeling down so you decided to cut this conversation off while you weren’t too focused on whether Asmo was actually into you or not.
“Okay, it’s getting late and-”“OOOOH you’re inviting me in aren’t you? Such a sly fox!”
“No, Asmo, good night,” you both chuckled and he left for his room.
The next day came and you awoke to more than just the box beside your bed, it was all seven of the brothers. Lucifer held a cake (and held Beel away from eating it) and everyone else wore birthday party hats. Mammon somehow wore his wrong, you didn’t know why it was upside down or how it stayed like that but the sight of all of them together made your heart do backflips. These had to be the most amazing friends you’ve ever had. They cheerfully sang happy birthday, Asmo gave you your card, and thus began your day.
You had breakfast which was specially made by Satan, your favorite pancakes with some garnishes of pink and purple heart sprinkles added by Asmo.
You dug in and Asmo sat down next to you,
“So, MC, did you open your gift from me yet?”
You shook your head no, though now you felt the urge to get up and grab the box immediately. What can I say, it’s fun receiving gifts. You kept eating your pancakes as he spoke up again,
“It’s really special, okay, so open it while I’m there.”
This made you wonder what he was going on about, you had a slight inclination to assume it was just some high tech sex toy but he did say to wear it to your party, so that’s surely ruled out, right? Please be ruled out… You gave Asmo a nod and turned to Lucifer.
“So,” you said, “what time is my birthday ball going to start?”
Lucifer replied, “promptly at five o’clock. I will let the guests in, though we didn’t have much time to send out invitations. I have invited Diavlo and Barbatos as well as the angels and Solomon.”
“We should probably finish decorating since its nearly ten, we mustn’t procrastinate,” added Satan, “and Levi was removed from decor duty since he tried incorporating Ruri-chan into the banner…”
You replied, “Well, I have no problem helping out, me, Asmo, and Belphie can hang up what’s left of the decorations.”  There were minor grievances toward you setting up for your own party, but seeing as how all of the brother’s stayed up, besides Belphie and Asmo, they weren’t too keen on working anymore. So it was planned, you would help set up then you would get ready. After breakfast you and Asmo went to Belphie’s room to get him up again seeing as he went straight to sleep after singing to you. Right before you knocked on the door,
“MC, why don’t we just put up the decorations, just the two of us?” Asmo said gently with a smile. You weren’t sure why he’d asked but it did mean you wouldn’t have to deal with a grumpy Belphie, so you both just went back to the ballroom. There were minor mishaps as you decorated, you had to stand on a ladder and nearly fell off, you managed to regain your balance but you looked down to see Asmo with a worried look and open arms. Though, to be honest, he wasn’t the strongest of demons, so you weren’t sure how safe it would’ve been for either of you had you actually fell. When you were both done, an epic high five was delivered and you went off back to your room.
It was now time to get ready! You showered and put on your makeup and just as you opened your closet, looking for something to wear, you remembered that you already had something. You called Asmo to come to your room, he came swiftly and watched with eager eyes as you opened your first gift of the day.
You gasped, “Oh, Asmo, this is beautiful.” You rushed at him to give a hug and he gladly accepted. You went back to your bed and picked up your gift to admire it once again. It was a wine red silk gown; backless with a mermaid silhouette. You noticed embellishments of small diamonds at the bottom of the skirt, you were genuinely in awe.
“You’re welcome, I knew you’d love it since I was the one who picked it out afterall.” He gave you a sweet smile and left you to get dressed, but wait! He forgot to give you his favorite diamond necklace. It was only for the night but you felt honored being able to wear the thin, teardrop shaped necklace. You felt like a beautiful princess, worthy to date a prince (of Hell). Then he left for real to let you get dressed. The guests began arriving and when you re-emerged from your room, all eyes were plastered on you. The wine color of the backless silk dress, the diamonds so elegantly sparking around your neck, the click clack of your heels against the marble steps – it was captivating.
As you descended the staircase, you saw Asmo emerge from another door carrying little cupcakes as confectioneries. He looked up and, wow, did he blush. The wash of pink on his pearlescent skin reminded you of a rose blooming amongst white lilies.
When you got down to him and the other brothers, Asmo seemed speechless, which was very out of character. You almost began to get self conscious without his showering of compliments, did the dress not suit you as well as you thought? He set down the plate of confectioneries and approached you slowly, like he was approaching the eighth wonder of the world. He looked you in the eyes, you could see so many emotions that you could barely decipher before he turned his eyes to the ground and with a tender smile, he spoke.
“Gosh, you look like an angel…” He whispered gently almost as if he were trying not to let anyone but you hear.
“Asmo,” you blushed, “I was waiting for some praise,” you let out in a joking tone.
He laughed with such joy, looking at you with bright burning eyes.
“Well, Ms. MC, I do believe that the breathtakingly gorgeous birthday girl and the best looking man at the party should have a dance.” He bowed and held out his hand, you graciously accepted and you danced the night away under the Devildom night sky. The party went on and you opened various other presents from the boys, one was a Ruri-chan t-shirt, another a cookbook with a bite? taken out of it. You couldn’t help but smile and laugh and exclaim that this was the best birthday you’ve ever had.

So, if I were a merman and you a human… would we have a forbidden romance?
There's a story like that in the human world, isn't there?
You know, where the mermaid dissolves into foam at the end?

Mermaid Splash
Chapter 1
Summary: Obey Me! Fairy tale au. A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
Pairing: Asmodeus × GN MC
Warnings: Mild blood in other chapters.
***
Author's Note: I really tried to emulate the style and tone of Hans Christian Andersen's original fairytale, or at least the 1888 English translation, I hope that comes across. So if the pacing is weird or it feels a bit stilted, that's somewhat intentional. There are a few direct quotes I pulled from the original text along with some references (mostly metaphors,) and this is not without inspiration from Disney's The Little Mermaid as well, since that's the version I grew up with. I hope you enjoy my little spin on the story.
***
Once upon a time there was a little merman who lived with his brothers in the sea. The seven of them were princes who had sworn allegiance to the Crown Prince of the Sea.
Lucifer, the first and oldest brother, kept his younger brothers in line, a wearying task most days but he loved his brothers very much; he was the closest and most loyal to the Crown Prince. Mammon, the second brother, collected trinkets from shipwrecks and stole pearls from oysters; the pearls he strung as necklaces and other adornments that he wore, occasionally gifting one or two to his brothers. Leviathan, the third brother, was shy with other merpeople, keeping to himself and his little family, but he became fast friends with every other sea creature he met. Satan, the fourth brother, preserved books and scrolls that fell into the sea, he had a little collection of them in a cave and he often went there to read and learn; he shared them with his brothers whenever it pleased them. Beelzebub, the sixth brother and twin of Belphegor, wanted to taste every sea creature in the ocean at least once; he’d already tried a fair amount. Belphegor, the seventh and youngest brother and twin of Beelzebub, wanted nothing more than to sleep his days away under the rolling waves.
Asmodeus, the fifth brother who has not been forgotten, was the most beautiful of them all. He is the little merman of our story.
Asmo’s tail was the same color as his eyes, amber like the setting sun. He wore seven necklaces around his beautiful, long neck. He loved to sit on rocks and comb his hair, admiring his appearance in the reflection of tidepools. But he especially loved to sing. His voice shone above his brothers’, who were all gifted singers themselves.
All of the brothers were fascinated with the humans and the Human World above, but because of laws put in place by the now sleeping King of the sea, they had to be content with what they found in the wreckage of ships and the few moments of life a human had before they were drowned under the waves after hearing the brothers’ songs. This was the tradition in the world of the merpeople. Every stormy night the seven brothers would rise to the surface and hide in the waves, singing to the humans on passing ships, luring them into the inky depths. Asmo’s voice was the crown jewel that completed the brothers’ harmony.
“The Crown Prince has informed me there will be no storm tonight so we will not be going up to the surface.” said Lucifer one day. The Crown Prince could sense the tides and the weather, so he was an accurate source for this information.
Lucifer’s six younger brothers grumbled.
“That’s no fun,” Mammon pouted.
“I’m not happy about it either,” said Lucifer. “But nothing can be done.”
“That leaves me some time for reading.” Satan said.
“And I can take a nap.” said the youngest, Belphie.
Asmo shot a pointed glance at Beel, who had accidentally eaten his comb that morning. “Well I’m going to look for a shell to make a new comb.”
The seven brothers each went their separate ways that evening.
Asmo swam up to look for empty shells on the reef. He reached up towards the sun, until his fingers breached the surface of the water. The sun was so warm and bright despite it being so close to sunset. He wished he could spend more time on the surface during daylight.
With a sigh he dove down to the reef again, scanning the ocean floor for the shells. He gathered a few promising specimens in his arms.
Soon he was near the shore, and with a few more moments of light left, he decided to take a look at his reflection. He swam up to a formation of rocks that sat under a cliff by the reef. He pulled himself up onto a rock and located a tide pool. Humming to himself, Asmo adjusted his hair, enjoying the way it dried in waves in the sea air.
There was a splash nearby. A small sailboat had been dragged into the sea.
Asmo crawled on his arms to hide behind a taller rock so he wouldn't be seen.
You were the only human operating the little boat that looked like it was meant for at least two. You struggled to adjust the sail, precariously leaning over the edge as you pulled and tied the ropes. You turned to fiddle with something on the back of the boat and the sail swung wide, nearly hitting you. You cursed out loud.
Asmo watched you from afar, it appeared you were not adept at handling the boat, but you seemed determined to go somewhere.
With some more fiddling and another near miss, the sail was adjusted to your liking and you embarked on your journey.
Asmo slipped into the water to observe from a closer distance, dipping down below your boat to follow you. It was like swimming underneath a whale, like he'd done many times with Levi. You sailed almost a mile out to sea on your own. When your little boat seemed to pause in the water, Asmo stopped to stare up expectantly. So you weren't planning on traveling a great distance. What were you doing?
He moved out of the way as your anchor dropped from above.
The rocks extended this far out into the water, most of them hidden by the tide. It was foolish to drop anchor here, but you did anyway.
Asmo watched from the safety of those rocks as you neatly rolled up the sail and tied it to the mast to keep it out of the way.
By now, the sun had almost sunk into the sea and the first evening stars were just beginning to appear in the sky.
You finally sat down with a sigh, a small smile growing on your lips.
You rummaged through a leather satchel, looking for something.
Asmo pulled himself up on a rock so he didn't have to fight the swell of the waves to see you.
The sun was now gone, leaving the sky dark except for the stars. But as a creature of the deep, Asmo could see well in the dark.
You pulled out a leatherbound book and a pencil. You looked up and surveyed the sky, your eyes landing on a cluster of stars that had just appeared. You flipped to a blank page and began to sketch.
Asmo watched for a while, swirling his tail in the water, the sound swallowed up by the crashing of waves. You continued to sketch, occasionally flipping the pages and starting again. Eventually Asmo got bored. It seemed like he had been sitting there for hours. Why weren't you doing anything? He contemplated getting closer to look at your sketches but he decided against it. Lucifer would kill him if he was spotted by a human, especially since he was out on his own.
The rhythmic swishes of his tail along with the sway of the tide reminded Asmo of a song. He began to hum a melody.
That gave him an idea. If you wouldn't do anything interesting, he could coax you into doing something.
Asmo began to sing. Quietly at first, and then letting his volume rise as the water swelled.
From this distance his voice would easily carry on the wind. It was meant to sound over storms, so a few little waves could do nothing to hide it. The ethereal beauty had been tempting for all humans, in Asmo's experience, none of them would hesitate to jump into the water to chase his beautiful voice.
But you didn't move, your head was still bent over your sketchbook.
That was odd.
Maybe he wasn't singing loud enough. True, Asmo usually sang with his brothers, and it had been a while since he'd tried to tempt a human on his own. Asmo took a breath and sang louder.
Once it almost seemed like you were swaying in time with Asmo's song, but you continued to sketch. The moon was high in the sky now.
He slipped back into the water to get closer, still singing his song.
You looked up.
Yes.
And you shut your sketchbook, returning it to your leather bag. You began untying the sails. You were returning to shore.
Asmo let out a particularly haunting vocalization.
Nothing.
Asmo watched as you set your sails and hoisted anchor. Your boat made the quick ride to shore, following the lights of an ivory castle on top of the cliff. You had all but disappeared from view as you reached the shoreline.
Asmo didn't follow you this time, he treaded water in the same spot, very confused. He left, the shells he'd gone to collect, forgotten.
***
The next evening Asmo returned to the reef to look for shells. He'd been complaining all day about his mussed hair, none of his brothers’ combs would do the trick for him. Lucifer sent him out to find shells for a new comb just so he would cease his whining.
He was happy he’d arrived to the surface at an earlier hour. He swam on his back, basking in the final minutes of sunlight. The clear sky was just as blue as the sea.
Asmo secretly hoped you would be there. He'd get you to fall for his voice yet.
Just before sunset your boat took to the sea again. You had an easier time controlling it, setting sail in a few minutes. You sailed to the same spot you had the night before. When you dropped anchor, Asmo settled himself on the rocks to watch you. He began singing immediately. Beginning softly as before, and crescendoing with the volume of the waves.
This time you had your back tuned to him. You pointed up at the stars ahead of you with your pencil, tracing a constellation in the air before beginning to sketch.
Asmo sang for an hour and still you had no reaction. It was no use. He stopped singing. But he couldn't take his eyes off of you as you worked so diligently.
He decided to be bold this time, slipping into the water and swimming all the way up to your boat. Your pencil scratched at the paper as you sketched the stars. He noted a compass rose in the corner of the page along with some notes describing the weather and your location.
You were quiet until...
Asmo held his breath.
You had begun humming a melody, and not just any melody, the one he'd been trying to use to seduce you.
He swam to the side of the boat to catch your expression. You smiled lightly as you hummed, still engrossed in your work so you didn't see him.
Asmo found himself smiling too. Oh how he wished he could talk to you. He wanted to find out why his voice didn't work on you, and most importantly he wanted to stare into your eyes and study their color.
You were too focused on your sketching and Asmo was too focused on watching you that neither of you noticed the wind picking up and the clouds gathering behind you.
Soon the boat began tipping wildly. And then came the rain. There wasn’t supposed to be a storm tonight.
You threw your sketchbook and pencil into your bag, slinging it over your shoulder. You needed to get back to shore quickly.
You clung to the mast with one arm as you tried to untie the ropes. Lightning flashed as the boat pitched, nearly upending itself. You held fast and remained onboard.
Asmo tried to swim away from the bobbing sailboat but a wave crashed him into the side. He sank under the water, stunned.
Several minutes later, after fighting the current, Asmo resurfaced. He looked around for you frantically.
Your boat crashed on the reef. You had been flung from the vessel and were beginning to sink under the waves.
Asmo swam for you. He reached your side just as a wave was beginning to take you away. Asmo grabbed you around the waist and slung your arm around his shoulders. He battled with the churning waves to get you back to the shore.
Asmo dragged your body up the sand and laid you on your back. He wasn’t sure what had compelled himself to save you, he just didn't want you to die.
Asmo brushed the hair out of your face, his fingers gliding over your soft skin. You weren't by any means as beautiful as him, in his opinion, but there was something utterly charming about your features. He sang a mournful song as he stroked your hair.
Asmo didn't know how to tell if a human was alive, for all he knew you could already be gone, the human he so loved to watch lost to the sea. He would never get a chance to speak to you or see the color of your eyes. He shed a single tear. He had become infatuated with you and he didn’t want it to end. Asmo leaned down to kiss you on the forehead.
"You have a- a lovely v-voice." You whispered as he ended his song, startling him.
Asmo suppressed a scream, bolting back to the water and swimming away as fast as he could. He hid behind the nearest rock. He peeked out from behind it tentatively.
Back on the shore you had passed out again, the tide licking at your unconscious body, threatening to pull you back out into the water.
A man with a lamp came running down the shore.
"Luke! I found them!" He knelt by your body, pressing an ear to your chest as he listened. “Oh, thank goodness they’re alive.”
Asmo felt his own heart rate returning to a normal pace. You were alright and that was good enough for him, he made his way home.

Mermaid Splash
Chapter 2
Summary: Obey Me! Fairy tale au. A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
Pairing: Asmodeus × GN MC
Warnings: Mild blood.
***
Author's Note: This chapter probably has the most direct references to the original fairy tale. A few of the Wizard's lines are pulled directly from the text.
***
The next evening Asmo asked Levi and Beel to help him move the remains of your boat to shore. He told them the fish and octopuses on the reef had been complaining that they couldn't return to their favorite nesting spots.
There were no signs of you or any other humans on the shore. He looked up at the lights of the castle and the village nearby and he hoped he would see you again.
The following night was stormy, but Asmo told his brothers he wasn't feeling well enough to sing to the passing ships. He laid in his sea bed, his thoughts constantly drifting to you.
By the third evening he couldn't take it anymore.
“What if there was a human who was immune to our song?” He asked as the seven brothers took their dinner.
“Impossible,” said Lucifer.
“It’s certainly not a situation that's ever come up in any book I've read.” said Satan.
The others agreed.
Asmo bristled. “None of you have been around since the beginning of time, it could have happened at least once.”
“If it has,” Lucifer said. “I know nothing of it.”
“Only the King of the Sea would be old enough to know if it ever happened,” said Mammon. “Or the Old Wizard.”
“The Old Wizard?” Asmo asked.
“He’s as old as the Sea King, maybe older.” Mammon played with one of the many necklaces he wore. “They say he was once human, but he gave his life up for the sea. They say he can’t die.”
“If he gave his life up for the sea, how is it that he can’t die?” Satan asked, skeptical.
“I heard he can grant any wish.” Levi said. “He lives in a cave just outside the kingdom, it’s hidden by a shipwre–”
“That is enough!” Lucifer stopped him. “It is forbidden to speak of the Old Wizard of the Sea. We do not speak of those who have been cast out of the kingdom. And we do not leave the kingdom without express permission from His Highness the Crown Prince.”
The brothers went silent.
“Let us take solace that in our lifetime no human has been immune to our song.” said Lucifer. He turned to his younger brother. “Asmo, you may ask the Sea King your question on the day that he wakes.”
No one in the kingdom knew the day the Sea King would wake. Not even his son, the Crown Prince. The King had been sleeping for well over a hundred years and he could sleep for a hundred more. Maybe a thousand. Merpeople were gifted with longer lifetimes than that of humans, but even so Asmo didn't think he could wait that long for an answer.
Asmo stayed home that night, once again tossing and turning in his sea bed. He longed to be in the sun. He longed to be with you.
He was half tempted to ask Satan or Belphie to accompany him at the surface and sing to you. Maybe a second voice harmonizing with his could charm you. Both of them would be willing to defy Lucifer. Asmo just didn't want to be responsible for either of them getting in trouble.
He turned on his side. Then there was the matter of the Old Sea Wizard. If he truly did have an answer it wouldn't hurt to ask him. And if he could grant a wish that would be even better. Asmo just had to make sure Lucifer didn't find out. He decided to leave while his brothers were out.
Being a prince of the sea, Asmo knew the route of the kingdom guards, which sections of the gate were the most protected. It was so simple to slip past a lone guard who had fallen asleep at his post.
Asmo circled the outside of the kingdom walls, darting behind rocks and patches of seaweed so as to not be spotted by diligent guards keeping an eye out for wayward merpeople.
Asmo began to lose faith that he'd find the Wizard’s cave after a while. He was tired of swimming, he should have stayed home and slept. He was about to turn back when he spotted a shipwreck. Could this be the one that hid the Old Wizard’s cave?
He pushed past the rubble, swimming through what had once been a window on the stern of the ship. The cave was quite dark, but Asmo could see in the dark so he was able to navigate it. The cave twisted and turned, Asmo went deeper. Soon he saw a dim light above him. He swam for it.
Asmo surfaced in an air pocket of the cave. There was light here but there was no sky or stars.
“Welcome, my child.” said the Old Wizard of the sea. “I am the Great Wizard Solomon.”
The Old Wizard didn't look so old. He looked no older than Asmo or any of his brothers. His silver hair was the only thing that gave away his aged state.
Asmo saw that the air pocket formed a little room with a stone floor. Stalagmites were set with hundreds of candles that cast a dim yellow light about the room. The Old Wizard sat on a carved wooden chair at the side of a cauldron that took up the middle of the room. He had taken the form of a human.
The Old Wizard gave a little cough, “Ahem.”
“I- I am Asmodeus, Fifth Prince of the Sea.” He recited his full title.
“Yes I know who you are, child.”
Asmo gave a nervous smile. “I have a question.”
“You have a question?” The Wizard’s tone was patronizing.
“Yes, I wanted to know what would happen if there was ever a human who was immune to the song of merpeople, oh Great Wizard Solomon of the Sea.” said Asmo with his head bowed.
The Wizard was pleased with Asmo’s reverence. “You may call me Wizard Solomon.”
“Oh,” said Asmo, surprised at the Wizard's friendliness. “Thank you Wizard Solomon.”
“Now about your question…” Wizard Solomon tapped his chin with one finger. “I will admit that I do not know of any humans being immune to the song of merpeople. I doubt there are any in existence.”
Asmo knew this was untrue but he wouldn't dare defy the Great Wizard Solomon. So you were the only one. This only made Asmo want you more.
“Thank you oh Great-” Asmo corrected himself. “Oh Wizard Solomon.” He bowed again to the Wizard, ready to leave the eccentric man's cave.
“That is not all, I presume,” Wizard Solomon stared deeply into Asmo’s eyes. “You, dear little prince, have a wish.”
“I-”
“There is no use denying it, Asmodeus.”
Asmo swallowed awkwardly. “I do have a wish.” He admitted. “I wish to bask in the sun and walk on land with the humans.”
Wizard Solomon laughed, “And not just any human, your human. The one who is supposedly immune to your voice.”
“How did you-”
“I know what you want,” said Wizard Solomon. “It is very stupid of you, but you shall have your way, and it will bring you to sorrow, my pretty prince.”
Asmo wrapped his arms around himself, unsure. “So you can grant my wish?”
“You are lucky I can switch between land and sea myself. I can grant your wish,” he said. “I can make a potion to split your tail in two and shrink into human legs. You will feel great pain, as if a sword were passing through you. But all who see you will say that you are the prettiest little human being they ever saw.”
“I would like that very much.” Asmo smiled.
“You do understand if you forsake the sea, the kingdom will forsake you.” said the Wizard.
Asmo nodded gravely. He knew this was a betrayal of the Crown Prince and the kingdom.
“And of course I will require payment.” Said Wizard Solomon.
Asmo took off six of the pearl necklaces he was wearing. He reluctantly went to remove the seventh and smallest necklace when Wizard Solomon stopped him.
“Keep it to remind you of your loss,” he said. “I will take the others but you must know I need so much more to work this spell. Something dear to you.”
“Something dear?”
“Your voice, perhaps?” the Wizard suggested.
“My voice? But-”
The wizard cut him off. “Does your voice work on this human?”
“No.”
“Then what use do you have for it?”
Asmo thought for a moment. “I wouldn't be able to talk to them without it.”
“There are other ways to communicate,” said Wizard Solomon. “Everyone knows you are the most beautiful creature under the sea.”
Asmo preened at this flattery. What he’d said was true, mermaids and mermen from all over the kingdom fell for him on his looks alone. And from the illustrations in Satan’s books, he might surpass the beauty of most humans.
“You will still have your beautiful form, your graceful walk, and your expressive eyes; surely with these you can enchain a human’s heart.”
The Wizard made a good point. You were the human he wanted, and if he could not use his voice to charm you he could afford to lose it.
“I will do it.” Asmo said.
“Now, the terms for our agreement, our pact, shall we say, are thus: you will have thirty days to win the heart of your human. The spell will become permanent and you will get to keep the beautiful legs I give you if you accomplish this.”
As the Wizard spoke, Asmo became more and more excited to have legs of his own.
“But,” the Wizard continued. “In that time if the human chooses to give their heart to another, on the dawn of the thirty-first day you will turn into seafoam and die. You are aware that merpeople don’t have eternal souls like humans do.”
Asmo nodded.
“Is this still what you want to do?”
Asmo considered it before giving his answer. “I do.”
“Very well then.” The Wizard scooped up the six pearl necklaces and put all but one aside. He set a little fire underneath the cauldron, it burned bright gold. He rummaged through the shelves lining the wall, gathering all sorts of vials. He poured the contents of the vials in the cauldron. He snapped the string of the necklace he was still holding and let the pearls fall into the potion. The Wizard then took a knife and sliced his palm, letting the blood drip into the cauldron. It began to boil and flash with light.
Asmo was entranced watching as the Wizard’s spell took shape. Wizard Solomon gestured for him to come forward. He lifted himself by his arms onto the stone floor, his entire body, tail and all, out of the water.
“I need you to sing for me, Asmodeus.” said the Wizard.
Asmo chose his most beautiful song and sang with his whole heart. His voice echoed throughout the little room. There was such passion in his voice.
“Very nice.” said the Wizard. “A fitting voice for a jewel of the sea.”
Wizard Solomon held a nautilus shell in his hands, reciting an elaborate incantation.
The wizard’s magic reached deep into Asmo’s throat, drawing out his voice. He was losing control of the melody as his voice in the form of a glowing bubble was torn from his mouth as he sang. It was painful, it felt like a part of his heart was being ripped away, but he kept his mind on his new legs and the prospect of winning your heart.
The Wizard Solomon simpered, maintaining eye contact with Asmo as he threw the nautilus shell into the cauldron. All the while he continued to recite the incantation, the words coming faster and faster.
When he was finished, the wizard poured the potion into a vial. It was clear like the purest water.
“Drink, dear prince.” said the Wizard.
Asmo took the vial and downed the potion in one swallow. His entire body warmed, almost to burning.
It felt as if a sword was ripping through his tail. He writhed in pain on the stone floor. If he could have screamed he would have. At some point Asmo fainted from the pain. When he awoke his tail was gone and in its place were two perfect human legs. Breathing felt different now. Asmo also noticed that his vision was much dimmer than before, he could barely see the Wizard by the light of the candles.
“It is finished,” said the Wizard. He used his magic to call upon a sea creature. An eel swam up to the side of the stone floor.
“Take a deep breath and grab onto the tail of this eel, he will bring you to the surface. From then you will be on your own.”
His head still reeling with pain, Asmo nodded, his fingers closing around the eel's tail.
“Remember, you have thirty days,” said Wizard Solomon. “Good luck.” It was a sincere statement, more so than anything the Wizard had said that night.
Asmo took a deep, shaky breath and the eel took off, dragging him back into the water and racing for the surface.
The eel wound through the Wizard’s cave with great speed. Asmo was blind in the dark water, his eyes stinging from the salt. The pressure and lack of air was getting to him, he felt dizzy.
Asmo gasped for air as he breached the surface. The moon was high in the sky, peeking through the clouds. There was still a storm churning the waters. He got one glimpse at the stars before the current dragged at him Asmo was not used to how his legs worked, try as he might, he floundered in the water. It pulled him under.

Mermaid Splash
Chapter 6
Summary: Obey Me! Fairy tale au. A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.

Warmth and light. Asmo felt comforted.
He opened his eyes to gentle sunlight spilling through the window and the sound of crashing waves on the beach.
You lay with him still entangled in your arms.
He sat up.
“I’m still here.” He said aloud.
“Asmo,” Your eyes fluttered open, roused from your slumber by the sound of his voice. “You can speak?”
He hummed, touching his throat to feel the way his vocal cords vibrated.
“I can!” He marveled at the sound of his own voice returned to him. It had been so long. He fought the urge to dance around the room.
He pulled you into his chest, hugging you tightly.
You laughed, wrapping your arms around him.
He didn't want to let you go. His heart pounded in his chest. He felt alive and warm and human. And that meant…
“MC,” He pulled away from the hug reluctantly, still holding your hands in his. “I thought you’d given your heart to Simeon.”
“I-” You paused, confused. “How did you know?”
“Because I’m still here.” His voice was barely a whisper. He knew you wouldn't understand, he’d told you very little of himself and nothing of the pact he’d made.
You still answered him, looking down shyly. “I couldn't give my heart to him," you said. “My heart belongs to someone else.” You touched the pearl necklace around your neck.
“Do you mean that?” He pressed a hand to his heart.
You nodded. "When I saw you last night, I knew. It was only ever you."
And you did mean it, otherwise he wouldn't have still been there.
Your heart belonged to Asmo and no one else. He knew that now. Tears were streaming down his face now, tears of joy. You cupped his cheek and he leaned into your touch.
“Oh, MC,” He savored the sound of your name on his lips as he said it a second time. “My dear MC.”
Asmo pressed his forehead to yours, bringing his hands up to your face, and he said the very words he’d wanted to tell you from the beginning, “I love you.”
He kissed you long and slow as the morning sun shone kindly on the sea.
***
EPILOGUE
Asmo explained how he was once a merman and a prince of the sea, and that he’d been the one to save you from drowning that one night so long ago. He told you how he’s traded his legs for the chance to see you and obtain a soul. And he explained that had you not given your heart to him freely, he would have dissolved into seafoam and died.
You cried for him and the pain you had caused him. You knew very well what it was like to feel alone and empty, and the fact that you'd caused him to feel that way was difficult to hear. If only you’d realized your own feelings for him sooner.
He forgave you, of course.
After a while, Asmo remembered the knife under the bed and that his brothers were waiting for him.
Asmo’s brothers were on the reef nearby, expecting the worst when he hadn’t emerged by sunrise. They wept, lamenting their dear brother who was lost to them, or so they thought.
You and Asmo walked out onto the balcony, hand in hand as the tide was beginning to pull in.
The brothers gave a great cheer as they saw Asmo was still alive. They swam up to the balcony to take a look at the two of you. They kissed Asmo and they touched your hands, wishing you both well.
The wedding was called off with no ill will between you and Simeon. He wished for your happiness and Asmo would give you just that.
The Crown Prince was able to negotiate with the Old Wizard to settle Lucifer’s pact, allowing the Wizard back into the kingdom as payment.
Lucifer beamed with pride as he met the object of his younger brother’s affection. And your union was approved by the Crown Prince of the Sea.
You and Asmo were married in a small ceremony in front of his brothers, the Crown Prince, and the few humans you were close to.
Your days were to be forever filled with walking on the beach, dancing, and looking up at the stars from your little boat. Always together.
And you both lived happily ever after…

Mermaid Splash
Chapter 4
Summary: Obey Me! Fairy tale au. A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
Pairing: Asmodeus x GN MC

***
One morning Barbatos offered to take the two of you into town with him while he ran errands for the household.
He hitched up an open carriage with two white horses. Luke sat with his father in the driver's seat, and you and Asmo sat together on the cushioned passenger seat.
Asmo clung to your arm as the carriage took off, startled by the bumpy road. You teased him playfully but you held him close for his security as Barbatos drove you into town.
There were so many things to see and hear in the village. Shops peddled every item imaginable, food stands sold pastries and bread, families walked hand in hand as they did their shopping for the week.
Asmo held your shopping basket for you as you made your purchases, he was so focused on taking everything in that he didn't notice the humans stopping to stare at his impossible beauty.
One little stand on the corner caught Asmo’s eye. The peddler was selling hairpins and accessories.
“Would you like one?” You asked, he almost didn't need the sketchbook anymore, for you could understand him with just a look.
Asmo nodded.
He was overwhelmed by all of the choices, it seemed like the hair pins came in every color of the rainbow. His hands hovered over the goods, indecisive.
You smiled, selecting a gold pin with a sparkling pink gem. “May I?” You asked.
Asmo ducked his head so you could slide the pin into his hair.
“It’s perfect,” you said.
Asmo looked into the little mirror hanging on the hook at the stand.
Your suggestion complimented his looks so well. It was a perfect choice. He reached up and brushed the glittering stone.
“Do you like it?”
He nodded, not taking his eyes off his reflection.
You purchased it for him.
As the two of you made your way back to the center of town, you could hear music being played in the streets.
People of all ages were gathered in the square, dancing to the lively music of a small band.
You pulled Asmo into a dance position, teaching him as the song went on. He picked it up as easily as he had with the waltz. He twirled and stepped as lightly as a soap bubble.
The village dance was much more vigorous than any of the waltzes Asmo had danced with you. After a few songs he needed to take a break to rest his tired legs.
You sat with him and Luke on a bench, who you'd caught up with as Barbatos was finishing his last few errands, the three of you enjoyed warm pastries from a nearby food stand.
You danced a few songs with Luke, giggling the whole time. And Asmo watched on as if you were the most wonderful sight in the world.
It was nearing sunset, almost time to go home, when a handsome man with clear brown skin and a lovely smile approached you.
“MC, would you care to dance with me?” He offered you his hand with a bow.
You took it, a shy smile gracing your lips.
Luke and Asmo remained at the bench. Asmo pulled out his sketchbook.
Who is that man?
“That’s Simeon,” said Luke. “He’s a noble from the other side of the island. MC has been in love with him for a while.”
Asmo cast his eyes back on the dancers, specifically you and Simeon. Simeon’s dancing was neat and precise. He whispered something in your ear and you laughed. The two of you made a pretty couple. The villagers took notice.
You returned to Asmo’s side breathless and flushed with heat.
Simeon bowed over your hand and said his goodbye.
Asmo fought down a wave of jealousy. This would change nothing.
***
There were more outings: sometimes into town, sometimes to cafes, sometimes to the docks to see the ships launch.
Once, you took Asmo to an opera. You admitted that you hadn't left the house much since your parents passed, other than your day in town. You’d much preferred to walk on the beach or sail in your little boat, which was being repaired.
But Barbatos encouraged you to go out, and since Asmo was there to go with you, you acquiesced.
Asmo wore the hairpin you bought him.
The orchestra’s music was lush, and the actors’ conviction carried all the way up to the private box where you and Asmo sat, enchanting both of you.
During the intermission, Simeon visited your private box. He invited you and Asmo, who he’d referred to as your “little foundling” ever since he’d heard the story of how you’d discovered him on the beach, to dine at his estate. You quickly accepted.
As the theatre lights dimmed in preparation for the next act, Simeon left.
The opera was about a man traveling to the underworld to save the one he loved. The second half depicted his impossible trial. He had to make it out of the underworld without looking back or he would lose her. The man failed.
Asmo cried bitter tears for the man’s plight. He’d given up so much only to return empty-handed and alone.
You gave Asmo your handkerchief, blinking back your own tears.
***
Simeon’s family seemed to approve of you and your high birth. You were invited to more dinners and the occasional ball. And wherever you went, Asmo went with you.
He seemed to be a topic of discussion, with his expressive eyes and delicate features, not to mention his aloof nature. No one had heard him speak.
If only they knew he couldn't.
The more time you spent with Simeon, the less lonely you looked, and the more lonely Asmo felt. He missed his brothers.
Some nights as he stood on the balcony, gazing into the water to feel the spray of the sea on his face, he would think he caught a glimpse of one of them mourning for him. But when he blinked they were gone and he felt more alone.
But then you’d look his way and give him a smile, and he felt at home again.
One evening you dragged Asmo to the beach just before sunset, bringing your newly repaired sailboat out to the edge of the shore. You directed him how to help you set the sail and the two of you had the boat on the water in minutes.
“I wanted to show you something I love.” You answered Asmo’s quizzical glance as your boat glided through the water.
You sailed out to that same spot Asmo had first laid eyes on you.
You brought out your own sketchbook and showed him the constellations you’d drawn, comparing them with the ones in the sky. Your eyes came alive as you spoke about the stars which were as dear to you as friends.
Asmo felt himself smiling as he hadn't done in days.
“You know,” you said, dipping your hand in the cool ocean water. “I almost drowned not that long ago.”
Asmo stared at you.
“But I was saved by someone. I thought it was a mermaid- maybe even a merman. Whoever they were, they were beautiful. And their voice was so…” You trailed off.
Asmo blushed, fixing his gaze on your hand in the water. You didn't know it was him. Of course you wouldn't, you had been half dead and barely conscious. And he no longer had his voice to prove it was him.
You sighed. “Maybe it was just a hallucination.” You began to hum a melody.
Asmo broke into a big grin. It was the haunting tune he’d sung to you when he saved your life. You remembered that, at least. He reached for your hand and squeezed it.
“Do you know this song, Asmo?”
He nodded emphatically.
“I thought it was just something I heard in a dream.”
Asmo wrote in the sketchbook.
My brothers taught it to me.
“You have brothers?” You smiled.
He nodded but then paused, a frown overtaking his lips. Since he'd betrayed the Crown Prince, he could never go home. He missed his brothers all over again.
I used to. He wrote.
“Oh.” You said, frowning as well. “So you're alone just like I am.” You linked your fingers with his, giving his hand a squeeze.
The two of you sat in silence, hand in hand, staring up at the stars.
“Asmo, I-” you began after a while. “I want you to know you’re always welcome in my house.”
He made no move to write, nor did he look at you.
You cupped his face with your hand, turning his head.
“I just didn't want you to think I’d forgotten you.”
He grasped your wrist as your hand lay on his cheek, his smile sorrowful.
He nodded.
You smiled back, pleased he understood you.

Mermaid Splash
Chapter 5
Summary: Obey Me! Fairy tale au. A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
Pairing: Asmodeus x GN MC
Warnings: Mild blood in other chapters.
***
A formal announcement arrived at your castle, inviting you and your guest to a birthday celebration for Simeon later in the week. You carefully prepared for the night, even having new clothes made for you and Asmo. You were insistent that everything would be perfect. Because he would be there and you wanted to please him.
The celebration was lavish. Hundreds of people were in attendance, all to celebrate Simeon’s birth.
The orchestra played the waltzes you knew so well, you and Asmo taking to the floor right away.
People whispered about Asmo, the ethereal being who danced like an angel from the heavens. But he took no notice, his attention was on you.
You danced together until Simeon arrived and you were swept up in his arms.
Asmo looked on, robbed of your warmth.
You remained with Simeon until the clock struck midnight.
There were three days of celebration with a ball ending each night. And each night you spent in Simeon’s arms, dancing for all to see.
That first night Simeon had complimented your smile.
The second, your eyes.
And by the third he asked for your hand in marriage.
Asmo danced at each ball as if he didn't have a care in the world but inside, his heart was breaking. He was devastated. You would be giving your heart to another, if you hadn't already.
Asmo was just your “little foundling”-- your diversion, your pretty pet. And soon he would be lost to the sea.
Oh how he wanted to scream and sing and mourn, but his lips were silent and he took everything with a lovely smile on his face.
Your morning walks on the beach were cut short, there was no time for dancing before dinner. And Asmo barely saw you. He walked the halls of the castle like a ghost. Try as he might, neither his expressive eyes nor his writing could reach you.
But Asmo couldn't bring himself to hate you or Simeon. Simeon did seem to have so much love for you, he spoke to you as an equal. You looked so happy with him, your smile was never ending. And Asmo was still deeply in love with you.
The time came for you to announce your engagement, so you threw a ball at your own castle.
You invited Asmo to get ready with you, helping him into his newly tailored suit. His beauty shone brightly. But he sat silently as you dressed and set your hair, his own toilette forgotten in his grief, not that he needed to do much to look perfect..
You reached for his hand, as he’d promised to escort you to the ball where your love would be waiting.
He shook his head.
There was a question on your lips.
Wait. He wrote.
Asmo unclasped his pearl necklace and held it out to you.
I want you to have this.
“Oh, Asmo I couldn’t.” You said, trying to push his hand away.
It’s my wedding present to you, and as thanks for saving me. Besides, it matches your outfit.
You hesitated before finally accepting the necklace at his insistence.
You let him help you put it on. The pearls he clasped around your neck seemed to cry.
Remember me, remember me. They said.
His eyes screamed for you, begging for you to hold him. To give him your heart as he’d given you his.
But you were turned away and did not hear him.
Asmo took your arm and escorted you to the ballroom, knowing full well he was giving you away to another.
As you and Simeon turned about the ballroom, greeting your guests as they wished you a blessed marriage, Asmo danced as he’d never danced before, elegantly poised like a swallow in the air as it pursues its prey. Every step held the pain of his loss, every turn echoed his love. But he did not cry. His amber eyes held his little secret locked away from the world.
At the end of the night, Simeon kissed you in front of the crowd of hundreds.
***
The next morning you were feeling ill and too tired to walk on the beach. You took breakfast in your room alone and you remained there for the entire day. Your wedding would be tomorrow and you needed the rest. Servants dashed about the castle, preparing for your wedding. Notes were sent back and forth from your estate to Simeon’s.
Twenty-nine days had passed since Asmo had made his pact with the Sea Wizard, making this the thirtieth day. He was going to die and the last time he'd seen you was when you were in Simeon’s arms.
He was too numb to cry, he spent hours staring at the crashing waves, watching the white foam wash up on the beach, remembering what he would become by dawn.
He visited Luke in the stables and Barbatos in the kitchen. He took his dinner with them, feeling nothing. More than once he found himself outside your door but he couldn't bring himself to knock.
Asmo lay in bed that evening, listening to the waves crash against the rocks below the castle. Like the man in the opera he’d failed his simple task. You were giving your heart to another and he would have no soul. He wanted to go home.
Near midnight he stepped out onto the balcony. He longed to feel the sea air on his face one last time. He thought he heard the mournful song of his brothers, but that was impossible.
The tide was pushing up against the balcony.
“Asmodeus,” someone called.
He looked into the water.
Five figures rose up from the depths. His brothers.
“Asmodeus!” They cried.
He tried to call out to them but his lips were silent as ever.
His heart clenched at the sight of them. He knelt on the balcony, reaching to touch each of them. He hoped this was not a dream.
“We’ve missed you so,” said Mammon.
“Please come back to us,” said Beel.
I can’t. He mouthed.
“We know you will turn to seafoam and die if you do not secure the heart of the human by dawn tomorrow,” said Belphie.
Asmo gave a sad smile, resigned.
Where is Lucifer?
“Lucifer has gone to the Great Wizard Solomon to make a pact with him.” said Levi. “He will serve the Wizard in exchange for your return.”
Asmo felt as if he would cry. Lucifer had traded his freedom and betrayed the kingdom for something Asmo could not give.
He shook his head.
“The Crown Prince has already agreed to welcome you back to the kingdom,” said Satan. He handed Asmo a knife. “The Wizard’s spell will be broken if you kill the human as they sleep and let their blood spill upon your legs. Your tail will return and you can come back to us.”
Asmo hesitated.
“Please hurry, dawn approaches!”
Asmo’s five brothers dove back down into the water, leaving him alone with the knife in his hands.
He stood on the balcony until the air chilled him to the bone.
If he could only do this, he could go home. He could be with his brothers. He wouldn't get his voice back but at least he could hear them sing, a sound he missed so desperately. He could swim with them and he would promise to never leave them again.
He made his way to your room, pushing open the door. He approached your bedside. All was quiet except for the waves.
You slept so peacefully, likely dreaming of your wedding day. He kissed your forehead.
He looked at the knife and then he looked back at you.
He didn't want to die. He cursed himself for the stupid pact he'd made. He’d given up everything for you. And yet it meant nothing.
The knife shook in his hand as he pushed back the comforter.
You were still wearing the pearl necklace he had given to you. He couldn’t bear it. Tears flowed down Asmo’s cheeks. He couldn't bring himself to kill you.
You who he’d fallen in love with from the moment he saw you in your little boat. You who’d been so lonely you’d taken him in after he, a stranger, washed up on the beach. You who had taught him how to dance. You who held his heart.
“Asmo?” Your eyes were blurred with sleep. Asmo dropped the knife. You sat up in bed.
Asmo couldn't stop crying
“Oh, my dear, are you alright? Did you have a nightmare?” You reached out to him and pulled him into your bed. You wrapped your arms around him, holding him close. “You’re so cold.” You pulled the comforter over both of you as you laid back down.
He shook with sobs as you cooed and sang to him to calm his troubled heart, one song blending in with the next. He buried his face in your chest and clung to you as if you would slip away at any moment. He felt the vibration of your voice through your chest as you held him.
He was home.
Asmo knew he would die once the sun rose but it didn't matter anymore. He didn't need a soul or his voice or even his legs. He just needed you and these last few moments in your arms.
After a while your voice began to fade away, and Asmo succumbed to sleep.

Mermaid Splash
Chapter 3
Summary: Obey Me! Fairy tale au. A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
Pairing: Asmodeus x GN MC
Warnings: Mild blood in other chapters.
***
You had taken to walking the beach at dawn in the days of your recovery from drowning. Usually little Luke, the butler’s son would walk with you, but he was unavailable today. You would hum to yourself and pick up any pretty shells you found. You had begun a sizable collection.
This morning, however, was different. The beach was littered with debris from a shipwreck on the other side of the island.
A body had washed up on the beach. It was a young man. He was naked save for a string of pearls circling his neck.
Kneeling by him, your eyes wide, you pressed your ear to his chest. His heart was still beating, but it was slow and quiet.
You touched his face to rouse him. “Sir, please wake up.” You patted his cheeks repeatedly. After a moment he began to stir.
Asmo blinked in the bright morning sun.
His eyes landed on your sweet face staring down at him, your brow creased with concern. He gave a dazzling smile, reaching for your wrist to keep your hand on his cheek.
“Oh, good,” you sighed with relief, smiling. “You’re awake. I was worried we’d lost you.”
You helped him into a sitting position and you removed your jacket, giving it to him to cover his nakedness. He reveled in your warmth, pulling it around himself.
“Where did you come from?” You asked.
Asmo pointed out into the water.
“The ocean?” You were confused. “Do you mean you came from one of the ships that crashed in the storm?”
Asmo paused for a moment, then nodded.
“What’s your name?”
Asmo opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. He touched the base of his throat, remembering what he'd paid for his legs.
“You can’t speak?” You asked, laying a sympathetic hand on his arm. Asmo enjoyed the feeling of your touch.
He shook his head.
You looked around, locating a stick. “Can you write?”
He gave a broad smile, nodding. Satan had taught him to write using the books he loved to collect.
You handed him the stick and he began to spell out his name in the sand.
“Asmodeus,” you read. His name was like the sweetest melody on your lips. “Did I pronounce that right?”
He nodded again. You smiled at his enthusiasm.
“That’s a beautiful name.” You said.
Asmo ducked his head bashfully.
“I’m MC,” you introduced yourself with a slight bow of your head. “It is nice to meet you, although the circumstances are quite unusual.”
Asmo nodded, copying your bow.
“Come with me, Asmodeus,” You took his hand. “Let us go inside where it's warm.”
He was unsteady on his feet, having never walked on two legs before. You reached around his waist to support him, supposing his weakness was from being tossed about in the storm. He couldn't fight the grin on his face as you held him. And as the two of you made your way up the beach, his steps became easier.
You led him up to the beautiful ivory castle on the shore, opening the massive ornate doors. Asmo stared up in awe at the finery. Royal dwellings in the Kingdom of the Sea were very different from those on land.
“Oh dear,” said a man as the two of you entered the castle. It was the same man who had recovered you on the beach those nights ago.
“Barbatos, this is Asmodeus,” you said. “I think he was part of the shipwreck in the storm last night. I’ve decided to take him in.”
“I thought that shipwreck had no survivors.”
“Well,” you said. “Clearly there was at least one.”
Barbatos gave you and then Asmo each a polite bow. “Very well, Master.”
Barbatos drew Asmo a bath while you and Luke searched for clothes that would fit him. You found acceptable garments for him in your father’s belongings but they would need to be tailored to fit him better.
You were a noble. You explained that your parents had died a year before and you were now the head of the household and the owner of this magnificent castle.
You sat with Asmo and told him how the house was run, that Barbatos was a butler and he handled most household matters. His son, Luke, was still a child but he helped out in the stables. There were other servants but they were silent and distant. It was a great big house with so few people living in it. Almost like a tomb.
All the while Asmo listened, nodding when appropriate.
You left him for a moment to fetch something.
“I thought you could use this to communicate.” You said.
You placed a small leatherbound book and a pencil in his lap.
Asmo opened it. It was a little sketchbook like the one you had taken with you on your boat, only smaller. The first ten pages were full of rough sketches of constellations and one of a little lamb.
“I’m sorry about the drawings.” You apologized. “I can buy you a new book in town tomorrow.”
Asmo shook his head. He opened up to a clean page, writing in it.
Thank you.
You beamed.
“I have something else to show you.”
Taking his hand, you led him up the stairs to a hallway. “My room is right here,” you indicated a door at the end of the hall. “So if you ever need anything please don’t hesitate to come to me.”
You continued down the way to another door, pushing it open. You gestured for him to enter.
“You are welcome to use this room and anything in it for as long as you are here.”
The room had a balcony with the most wonderful view of the ocean. On one wall was a floor length mirror and directly across from it was a dressing table with combs and brushes and hairpins laid out on a tray. In the center of the room was a bed with many pillows and comforters. A fire was already roaring in the hearth.
“This was my childhood bedroom,” you said, sadness tinting your voice. “I’m glad it has use after all this time.”
Asmo opened the sketchbook to write, but you continued speaking.
“You should get some rest Asmodeus, dinner will be in a few hours’ time.” With a final smile you left him in his room.
Asmo couldn’t contain himself. He sat on the bed, bouncing a few times. He turned down the covers and slipped between the sheets. He was sure he had never felt anything so comfortable. Belphie would have loved a chance to sleep in a bed like this.
Soon Asmo drifted off to sleep.
***
Asmo woke to the sound of music drifting up from downstairs. He followed it to its source.
You sat by a fire as Barbatos played a violin as you waited for dinner to be ready. Your eyes were closed as you listened to the music, a smile on your face.
Asmo watched as the bow cut through the air in elegant strokes. The ebb and flow reminded him of the sea.
As the song came to a close, you opened your eyes.
“Asmodeus, come join me.” You reached out to him.
He sat next to you on the settee and Barbatos began another song.
Asmo hadn't noticed he was swaying to the music until his shoulder brushed yours.
He felt himself blush.
He had clearly been enjoying the music. “Asmodeus, do you know how to dance?” You asked.
He frowned, shaking his head.
“Oh,” you said. “Would you like me to teach you?”
He nodded emphatically.
The two of you stood, you leading him to the center of the room. Barbatos stopped his playing, waiting for instructions.
“Could you play something suitable for dancing?” you requested.
You directed Asmo where to place his hands.
Barbatos stood, bow poised at the ready.
You nodded for him to play and he began a slow waltz tune.
Though Asmo had never danced before he took to it easily, gliding with you gracefully across the floor as if he was under water.
He gazed into your eyes, noticing how your smile got bigger with every turn about the room.
“You’re a natural,” you said.
He blushed.
He lost track of how many songs he’d danced with you. He couldn't be happier to be in your arms and you in his.
Barbatos concluded his playing as the clock chimed the dinner hour.
You and Asmo parted, both grinning.
“Dinner is served,” Barbatos bowed.
The three of you made your way to the dining room where a long table was set for only two.
“Barbatos, won’t you take dinner with us?” You asked.
Barbatos set down the violin. “I am sorry, Master,” he said politely. “You know it would not be proper if I, your butler, took dinner with you. Especially since you have a guest. I will dine with the servants as always.”
Barbatos took his leave to the kitchen.
Asmo noted the frown you wore. You were so lonely. He had grown up with his lively brothers. Now that your parents were gone, you had no one but Barbatos and Luke who kept you at a distance because of your status.
Asmo reached for your hand and gave it a squeeze.
At his touch you turned to him, quickly wiping away tear. “I am so happy you're here, Asmodeus.”
Asmo. He mouthed.
You smiled, squeezing his hand back. “Asmo.”
The two of you conversed as you ate, you with words and Asmo with writing. Asmo couldn’t help but kick his feet under the table, he loved the feeling of moving his legs independently.
The meal consisted of several courses, every flavor complimenting the other. As he ate, Asmo’s mind wandered idly to his younger brother Beel.
You spoke throughout the meal of your plans for the week, inviting Asmo to come along with you. He wasn't sure what he had agreed to but Asmo didn't mind because he would be with you.
When Asmo returned to his room at the end of the night, the tide had brought the sea all the way up to the balcony.
He was too giddy to sleep.
First, Asmo stripped off his clothes to view his new body in the full length mirror. The moonlight shone on his pale skin, he admired his perfectly shaped legs and what was between them. He thought he was even more beautiful than when he had a tail, if that was even possible. He twirled with reckless abandon, his heart soared.
When he finally tore himself away from the mirror, he sat at the dressing table. His champagne colored hair was so fluffy and soft now that it was fully dry, he ran the comb through it so many times he lost count. Asmo tried on the hairpins, turning his head to see them sparkle. Mammon would have been so jealous.
He then moved on to your closet which was still full of clothes. He felt all of the different fabrics, choosing his favorite colors and textures. He wanted to try them on but he decided that would be taking too many liberties on your kindness, he was content with only touching them.
There were books on the shelves he wanted to read and artwork on the walls he wanted to study. There was so much about the human world he wanted to know.
It was almost dawn by the time he went to sleep, not being able to resist another glance in the mirror before the plush comforter beckoned to him.
He slept the next day until it was almost dinner time, and you let him because he seemed so exhausted.
When he woke, Asmo found a pile of clothes left for him, they had been tailored perfectly to fit his form.
The two of you danced again to Barbatos’ violin music and when the clock chimed the dinner hour he was loath to let you go.
The next morning you invited him to walk with you on the beach, collecting shells. Luke came along too, the playful young boy reminding Asmo of his little brothers.
And again you danced and dined.
Every day was like that. You spoke and he listened, you looked on as he responded on the page or with his expressive eyes. He flirted with you and batted his eyelashes. You laughed together and danced together. Your loneliness, chased away by his presence, and him falling deeper and deeper in love with you.
