While on a hunt, Jo meets Annie Hawkins. For some reason, she reminds her of her mother. Maybe that’s why she keeps calling her mommy when they sleep together

...
Fuck, torture, and eat. Hailey wiped her blade clean with her feet propped up on her dashboard. A lonely, fruitless life but in return there was lots of thrill. Her phone rang and she put it on speaker. “It’s Hailey,” she said. “Hey Hailey,” her brows shot up, it was Sam, “Could you do me, us, a favor?” he spoke quietly. “Whatcha want?” she asked, and put her knife in her backpack. … Hailey, the cream of the crop in the business of killing demons. Her tongue is much sharper than her knife, but she can be sickly sweet. Years of hunting, and all of a sudden she can feel the scales shifting. She can taste the iron in her mouth and see her fellow hunters thrown into the wind. Just in the nick of time she gets a call which changes everything, even if she doesn’t know it yet. The Winchester brothers and Hailey intend to put the scales back in place.

Summary: It’s 1982. Ronald Reagan is President, the Dodgers won the World Series and Mary Winchester is done with hunting. She’s a wife now, and a mom, living the apple pie life, just like she always wanted. When an old friend calls in a favor, Mary reluctantly takes the case. It’s a simple haunting that shouldn’t take more than a day. But to Mary’s surprise, she’s not the only hunter trying to gank the spirit. Eighteen year old Annie Hawkins is young and hungry to prove herself, and there’s something about her that draws Mary in. Over the course of the weekend Mary discovers that there is more to life than being a hunter or being a loving wife and mother. But you know what they say: what happens in Witchita…

What does that acronym on the bottom of that dress blues post mean? Is it just a water mark?
It means “Be Powerful.” According to Laroyce, it’s a mantra he’s had for himself for years to be the most powerful version of yourself. And now he uses it as the name for his cooperation and often posts the hashtag #BPWRFL

Wonka is a disappointing prequel to the amazing 1971 original starring Gene Wilder that I only saw this year, as well as its unfortunate remake by Tim Burton in 2004, in preparation for watching this film with my daughter at Christmas. So the best thing that came out of Wonka was finally getting to see "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," which always looked dated to me and not aesthetically pleasing. Well, for all the sugar candy of CGI seen in the Burton remake, or the amazing sets and costumes enhanced by CGI in this new film, I'll take the honesty and naivety of the first film anytime. Not only does it have an original tale by Roald Dahl that is for the ages, but it's delivered with gusto and feeling by Gene Wilder in what must have been one of his best performances. And even though the tricks and gadgets in that film are dated, they were exactly that. Gadgets. Based on some sort of technology of the time and the imagination of the filmmakers. But not the absurdity and "magic" of this latest film that doesn't have a grasp on reality or know what type of film it wants to be. I mean, it's trying to be the first all-out musical in Hollywood since the 70s, but the music and songs are not memorable, and the singing and dancing aren't invited and don't lift you up. They're just "numbers" on screen for no reason. Also, the whole story set-up of keeping people imprisoned for their debt to a hotel has no logic whatsoever. Where are we? What is this country? In which century is this supposed to take place? It's all caricature, story beats, and characters we've seen in other film musicals (Annie comes to mind), but nothing makes you sing with joy or puts a tear in your eye. Nothing, except perhaps Hugh Grant, who brings a character to life from the first film, singing and dancing a number written by the master musicians Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley. That's all that's good. Plus, the song "Pure Imagination," again from the first film, that makes for a nice ending, helped in part by the appearance of the only moving original element, that of Wonka's mother, played by Sally Hawkins. Everything else, including Olivia Colman and Timothée Chalamet himself, goes to waste. Save your penny for an original Wonka chocolate bought from the factory of the 1971 film. You'll be thankful and will gain an experience you'll hold dear forever.
