#Also I know that Papyrus is still shorter than Gaster I just really like the idea of him being almost his dad's height ;;

i know you talk a lot about not liking the darkworld arc, but i personally really enjoyed it! it makes me smile every time i go back and reread it- i also feel that the feylow part really helped chara realize the issues they needed to confront so i'm not sure if the story would be confusing or not without it. maybe the darkworld arc was a bit silly at times, but it was a nice and fun breather before the more serious stuff resumed!
unsure but i'm assuming this was sent before my most recent post -if not sorry for misunderstanding asdkfjasd.
like, i don't mind the darkworld arc, it was an experiment and i'm still learning my craft. it was ambitious and misguided but i don't hate the end result.
so here’s like, my plan on this.
the arc will be shorter. it’s more of a short fun romp than a blown out multiple month adventure. knowing me it’ll still escualte, but since i have the power of hindsight and long term planning (as opposed to needing the audience to run asks and changing things on the spot) i can (ideally) keep things more shorter and cohesive
things will be properly foreshadowed. having chara be like kris and frisk having a situation with Suzy isn’t enough to really set the stage for the arc. since there’s going to be a rewrite/add-on between chapters where Sans and Papyrus disappear, I’ll make it more clear they went to this universe’s darkworld first before going into deltarune. i’ll set up a plot that’s built up beforehand properly.
the FUN gang... 2! (not the official name yet) will stick more together. i think one of the biggest faults of the original darkworld arc was keeping chara and frisk separated and being so much at odds at each other. people ended up disliking frisk more than I feel was needed. (and part of that is i just made them so stubborn and kept details of their story more spread out over time, making their actions feel less reasonable reactions and more selfish)
now that ralsei isn’t involved (rip fluffy boi) a bigger focus can be set to Frisk’s ACTUAL planned character arc. they were supposed to be conflict with Suzy (NOT Susie, this is UT’s Suzy) and they have a strong friendship with MK. this mostly has been written out just because Chara’s Family Drama takes center stage so often. Not EXACTLY sure what role these two will play in this new version, because well, it’s not written yet! I’ll have to research D&D classes and balancing party members before I truly tackle this. MK and Suzy are more of a blank slate in this right now because it’s not planned yet -their designs and roles will change.
The Knight and Gaster will still be involved. I’m making a full on new Darkworld (which is something I WANTED to do with the original DW arc, but the plot was a lil out of my control.*) but they won’t have the exact same story. it’ll feel different.
*(not that the askers could read my mind and know this. like, the abandoned house we were stuck in for a at least a week? that was supposed to be locked and out of our reach. but an asker was like “just break the door down” and i was like. yeah i can’t reason out of that asdklfasd like i said, great and fun experiment, not great for me directing a story. a lot of that was on the fly and while that’s more FUN it’s not coherent because it’s by nature not planned.)
TLDR; it’s going to be a more condensed, story focused adventure. chara’s conflict won’t be as separated or be as much of the focus, and frisk will have more avenues to explore their character that isn’t Putting Up With Chara’s Shenanigans.
Tumblr media
i’m just going to flat out say the Darkworld animation/fangame is cancelled for this reason. i KNOW i SHOULD probably not stick to rewriting a story that’s already been finished but... god I hate having a bad story. i don’t know what i’m doing after AFR (other than Angel’s Lullaby, but development on that is so slow) but I think this will be a good chance for me to really get used to plannign and finishing a story. at the very least it’ll be a fun hobby -I don't want AFR to rule my life forever nor do I expect my audience to keep intrest in it that long. I’ll still update the blog when the rewrite version updates and I’ll be blunt about what parts of the story are coming up/are changed.
i think my main goal after the UT anniversary is to finish the main storyline and epilogue and then focus on the redraw’s planning and get that going. it will not be askable.
thank you all for being such good sports and i’m sincerely sorry for how i’ve written darkworld, and made this into such a mess that I have to rewrite it. Again, I still think there’s great parts and I had fun, but I feel I want the vision to be mine and as best as it can be.

Could we ask for your headcanon appearance of each monster? How tall are they? Anything specific out of the typical appearance made by the fandom?
OOOO i have no idea tbh uh. hm.
gonna put this under cut because you said monster not skeleton….. whole rq list is getting da treatment >:3 fair warning i have no been super into the aus for very long so idk what constitutes as fandom wide appearance and what doesnt
sans: i dont think i have any hot takes on what he looks like? hes just regular old sans blue hoodie and basket ball shorts. i do think he smells vaguely of cheese whizz though.
papyrus: i cant stop envisioning him in sweaters and i dont know why. like the really dorky ones. the kind of guy to wear ugly christmas sweaters for months. my hot take is he tends to wear the same couple of outfits semi-frequently for months at a time as a comfort thing. his gloves and scarf are ALWAYS apart of the ensemble. the gloves r also for sensory reasons
red: i am OBSESSED with turtleneck wearing red its changed my life. i think about ur near constantly. he doesnt wear his jacket as much as sans maybe? i can also see him wearing jewelry some. if he had ears hed have one pierced. its generally rings and necklaces though. he and esge have shark teeth too like those kinds of sharp teeth but i know thats generally normal. big boneed and has a belly. bc he deserves one
edge: LEATHER ENTHUSIAST. he wears leather pants i think. he also has a purse to carry doomfanger around in (she is wearing a harness) he wears heeled boots which add to his impressive height (6’5) uhh. smells like spices. vaguely of cinnamon. gloves are less for sensory reasons, more he isnt fond of dirt.
blue: wears a bunch of goofy graphic t’s and also his scarf. has a tooth gap and freckles but thats a pretty common interpretation. he wears sneakers and has various silly ones like light ups and heelies. just for a laugh. my hot take is every sans had a tooth gap growing up and only blue didnt get it fixed. he thinks he looks better with it.
stretch: CARGO SHORTS. the many pockets for the many things he finds and picks up. theyre seemingly never endless. hes lanky looking, always slouching and leaning to one side hes never known good posture in his life. talks with his hands.
lord: wears shoes that give him a height boost. also unironically wears designer shit. his gloves are also for sensory reasons like papyrus. instead of shark like teeth he just has very sharp canines. he smells like coffee underneath and OVERWHELMING amount of cologne.
mutt: ALWAYS wearing his jacket youd be hardpressed to get it off of him (only lord can do it wnd even then its still a chore) his boots are furlined and everything he wears is the same texture. he defaults to sweat pants bc jeans r scratchy but he can manage it ok. hes got claws he tries to keep clipped down bc they scratched his phone screen. has a tendency to glare.
g: turtleneck under leather jacket wearer. he smirks more than he smiles. the tallest sans. he and ace take on a thicker set of bones to match gaster. wears docs probably.
ace: argyle enthusiast. very very tall, kind of gangly with glasses and a very sweet smile. his eyes are VERY kind you know the ones where someone smiles and their eyes crinkle up and youre like my god they r the sweetest.
height wise from tallest to shortest: ace (7'2), g (6'7) edge (6'5), papyrus (6'3), mutt (6'1), stretch (6'0), red (5'5), sans (5'3), lord (5'1), blue (5'0)
—-
gaster: tall, very tall. not really made of bone, it feels kind of boney but its more porcelain like?? holes in his hands and cracks on his face duh. kind of pudgy. like i know hes boney but hes got a dad bod tbh. his smiles kind of on the awkward side even when hes being genuine. he also tends to wear long sleeves.
mercury: eccentric sweater vest kind of guy. wears cordoroy pants and is a few inches shorter than gaster but not much. his missing a tooth in the front of his mouth (he tripped) but it only adds to his character.
epsilon: wears reds and blacks, with deep scars running along his face and also his body. his chest has a nasty one along with a few along his arm and on his back. shoes are snazzy, you can hear them click on the floor and he does it on purpose. intimidating.
height wise from tallest to shortest: epsilon (7'11), gaster (7'6), mercury (7'4)
—-
toriel: not sure what to say here except toriel in my head is soft shapes. not super curvy just kind of round. mrs clause shaped.
asgore: took the tits in the divorce
rose: a little curvier than toriel. she has the appearance of someone who used to be kind of buff but over time lost that. sharper teeth, thoigh theyre somewhat small and unnoticeable unless shes threatening you. she also has claws.
oleander: HUGE AND BUFF. where rose’s fangs are small his are not and got are they obvious. has black hair as compared to swap and uts blond. huge arms. tends to wear tight fitting plain black shirts. always sneering.
clover: also buff, gotta be buff to hold that trident. she wears flannels and jeans more often than not. shes a bit serious, leaning more towards the tired side. has eye bags that she tries to make less noticable. her horns are bit bigger than uf and ut toriel.
basil: wears glasses like ut toriel, his muscle has turned to fat so he is very soft. has a warm face, welcoming and inviting. hes the smallest of the asgore but hes still pretty damn big.
dahlia: her fangs are not as big as oleanders but much bigger than roses. seems lost in thought and when shes not shes cold and prying. doesnt sneer, she smiles, though its almost too wide and somewhat unsettling. on the off chance her face softens, she looks younger and sweeter. her real laugh sounds kind of like a bell.
hemlock: black hair like oleander although its kind of greasy. he wears cardigans, always mentioning being cold. hes got fangs as well and his eyes are somewhat down turned kind of making him look perpetually miserable. hes the thinnest of all the goats, looking borderline unhealthy.
height wise from tallest to shortest: oleander (8'4), hemlock (8'0), asgore (7'7), dahlia (7'6), clover (7'5), basil (7'4), rose (7'2), toriel (7'2)

An Error’s Journey
Chapter 3
Previous - First - Next
TW: Non explicit talk of toxic relationships.
Lust and Sci agreed to have their date after work the next day, Gaster covering for Sci, saying he’d be working late on their project.
The whole day the two of them had been so excited they could barely focus on working on the cure. With Paps in school for the day, they stayed in the Lab for lunch, Lust bringing leftovers from the lunch he had with his human the day before.
Hours passed and they got the first ingredient finished and prepared the next one for the cure. Not much could be done after that since much like the first ingredient, the second would need to chill overnight. They cleaned over some more conversation, and then Gaster dismissed the two of them, letting them head to UnderLust for their date.
Lust opened a purple portal, wrapped an arm around Sci’s lower waist, and told him to hold his breath. Then suddenly they jumped through and they were at the edge of a brightly colored snowdin. Off in the distance, you could see large crowds around Grillby’s and the hotel, but closer by, you could see a comfortable house with a shed next door.
Lust ushered Sci to the house, and soon enough they were inside and he was meeting Ace and Lust’s brother, Pink.
Ace seemed to be a young adult human, taller than Lust, but shorter than Pink. They wore plain brown shorts and a sweater that was striped with different colors, first black then grey then white, and finally purple. They also were pale, much like his Chara, but had fawn brown hair and their eyes were closed as if they were blind.
Pink wore a black open-chested long sleeve shirt with a cape behind him, and much like Lust, had black tights and boots, but his boots were yellow. Pink also had a belt around his waist that was studded with yellow hearts.
“Greetings, Sci! It’s Great To Finally Meet You!” Pink spoke confidently, extending a hand politely.
“Hello, Sci, Lust has told us so much about you!” Ace also extended their hand
“Likewise,” He shook Pink’s hand, then Ace’s.
“Dinner’s Almost Done!” The oven dinged, and Papyrus pushed everyone into the kitchen, dishing up a slice of lasagne for everyone. “How’d You Two Meet? From What Lust Talks About, It Wasn’t In The OmegaTimeline.”
“Omega Timeline…?” Sci questioned
“Basically a hub of sorts for all AUs, TimeLines, and a place for survivors of fallen Universes or more malicious AUs.” Lust explained
“Fallen Universes?”
“Sometimes Universes destroy themselves, much like how Universes are randomly created. No one can really explain it yet, not even Core Frisk, although the Gods of ReaperTale think that the Multiverse is just keeping balance.” Lust then moved his attention to Pink, “I was trying to get to Omega but I accidentally portaled into Sci’s Lab.”
Right, Lust was keeping the injections a secret from Pink.
“Yeah, sure startled me.” Sci laughed, “But, we got to be friends, and then lovers from it, so no harm no foul.” Sci started eating at the lasagne, “This is delicious, thanks Pink.”
“But Of Course! It’s Not Everyday Lust Brings Home A Date!” Pink started cleaning up the dishes and washing them.
Lust finished his plate and handed it to Pink, so did Sci and Ace.
The three of them left Pink and headed into the living room.
“How’s the cure going?” Ace asked quietly, making sure Pink didn’t hear.
“It’s been good so far, we made a breakthrough, and hopefully within the next few days we can test it,” Sci explained, just as quiet.
“Good to know, I hope it works out, I’ll let you two watch your movies. See you later.” Ace waved goodbye, walking out the door and presumably home.
Lust dragged Sci along up the stairs and to his room with a smile on his face. Lust closed the door and let Sci marvel at the room for a moment, far cleaner and nicer than his own.
Despite being the Scientist he is, his room is a mess. He never bothered with a bedframe, no matter how much Gaster pestered him, so his mattress lays on the floor, blankets, and pillows strewn around it. He has a floor lamp by his bed and a treadmill stuffed in the corner by his desk, and a bookshelf full of books that he shares with his brother, but besides that, it is pretty empty.
On the other hand, Lust’s mattress sits on a modern styled bed frame, a small TV sitting on a sleek wooden table, and a smooth plastic-looking bedside table held a simple lamp by his bed. Pushed against the wall, he also had a treadmill, but it was mostly overshadowed by his wardrobe, also modern in design.
Lust pulled out a large purple bean bag from his closet, and set it a foot or two in front of the TV, and then gestured Sci over, still that big goofy smile on his face.
It wasn’t long before the two of them were happily cuddling, holding hands, hardly paying attention to the movie.
“Isn’t it a little weird?” Lust gave him a confused look, “We’re both Sans’, yet we’re dating.”
His lover burst out laughing.
“Sorry, Sci, forgot how little you know about the multiverse… this is far from the first time Sanscest has happened. Many copies of us are together, and admittedly, a few out there are exes of mine.”
“I thought you never asked anyone out before?”
“I haven’t, they asked me… A lot of Sans’ share the same trauma, we all understand each other for one reason or another. It’s not uncommon for Sans’ to seek each other out for comfort.” Lust sighed, “Being truthful, they all broke my soul, not really wanting me but my body… it’s why I wanted to ask you out.”
Sci stuttered, “You’re the only person, aside from my friends and family, that sees me for me. Someone that doesn’t see the heat my underground is plagued by but sees my personality and listens to my jokes. Someone that doesn’t see me just as a body, but as a person.”
Lust cuddled closer, “I don’t think I could love anyone else.”

Hello there, human or monster. The story you are about to read is a story completely made up by the writer. This story will talk about Undertale's different AUs, however, their story will be changed and the writer will explain his version of the AU in question.
The authors of the arts will be mentioned at the end of the story. In case an artist doesn't want their art to be in this post, they are kindly invited to DM me so the writer will imediately take it off the said story.
Undertale belongs to Toby Fox, please, support him by playing both of his games.
Now let's get started.
Disbelief
Chapter 1: the soulless choice
The sun was starting to rise as the first and weak rays of Dawn would start to Shine all over the country. It has been 3 years since the monsters finally came out of the Underground. They had problems, people couldn't really trust them at the beginning, but after some researches and wise words, in a year or so everything started to get better and better every day. The Monsters were free to go around the world, laws were created for their magic as this could be dangerous and everybody agreed.
Humans started to accept the monsters even more when the first 'halfies' started to be born. And there were quite many actually.
Everyone found a job or something to do in their new life. Or, well, almost everyone. Sans and Papyrus really didn't do much, especially the shorter skeleton. The taller one was always traveling with someone, looking for adventures and made many new friends. Sans, on the other hand, kept lazing around every single day, reading books of puns and jokes...however he had an hobby: watching the night sky. It was fascinating for him, but he didn't know why either.
Toriel began a teacher as she always wished to, Undyne became an officer to protect people and to fight some bad guys. Alphys imediately became a very famous scientist, and most of the questions about her job were always about the Core, and she always answered with a disappointing "I-I wasn't the one who b-built It". However, people still had many questions about everything about the Underground and its magic... and of course, she was imediately accepted by the weeb community. Mettaton quickly became an incredible famous star. You could see people going crazy for his songs and legs over a mile away.
Asgore insisted for some time in prison for his sins of killing those children. Everybody told him that what happened centuries ago, it wouldn't affect him now and it wouldn't be fair for him to be in prison so there would be no jail...however, he started to work in a place where he could help some people, like giving free food and stuff. But Asgore wouldn't stop there, he became a politician to represent monsters and humans alike, and the ex-king became the most trust worthy politician in a long time. Some rumors dare to say that he and a pretty human girl met eachother in the place where the king works to help the poor people...and they may or may not started to date.
Anyway the only one left is Frisk.
The child was the only soul that wasn't happy in this new world. They actually found it boring. That was not the first time they saw everything happen. They already completed the True Pacifist once ...and at the time, that True Reset button was too tempting...and so they pressed it and committed a Genocide of the monster kind. They met Chara and gave their Soul to them. Chara alway appeared in their dreams, reminding to Frisk that they weren't the one truly in control.
This True Pacifist ending had two more differences then the first one. The first difference was strictly bound to the second one. Well the first one was Sans.
The Skeleton remembered everything the kid did in the Genocide. In the first True Pacifist they were pretty much best friends...but in this True pacifist they only talked once
It was a beautiful night outside. Birds were sleeping, stars were shining. The skeleton met the middle of the forest, far from the town. What happened that night was the second big difference.
"Hey kiddo" the Skeleton would say, his eyes closed. Frisk was a couple of meters away from him, and unkowingly to the monster, the Human brought a Knife. Frisk kept staring at the Skeleton, his stupid smile still on his face. "Sorry for making ya come here in the middle of the night but I have some bad news for ya" and so the Skeleton would put one gloved hand out of his pockets and he slowly pointed that towards the child. Frisk imediately pulled out his knife, tied on his leg and prepared to fight. "The bad news is that..." he opened his left eye and that damned blue glowing eye appeared, enlightening a bit of a soft blue light the area around the Skeleton. "I'll change the game" as he said that the soul of the kid became blue, but a much darker one than the kid ever expierienced...and a much painful one. The kid started to scream in pure pain, if they weren't that far anyone would have come to help them. Their finger moved by itself, pointing at something and the true reset button appeared in front of them. The skeleton's smile looked like it just got bigger and he, for the first time, would use a second hand. As he pulled out his second hand he would snap his finger and Frisk could see a Gaster Blaster right sbove their head, pointing down towards them. The child kept feeling like their Soul was getting ripped off their body with brute force as well as it was about to sbreak in a milin pieces. The blaster shoot his ray. The attack missed...or maybe not. The pain stopped and the child fell on their butt on the ground. They could see the True Reset button broken in front of them. The left part was destroyed and the word 'True' disappeared. Now it was just a Reset button.
"In this way..." Sans appeared right in front of the soulless human, his eyes as dark as a night without stars "even if you Reset I'll remember everything"
Those were the last words the Skeleton have ever said to the human. It happened a week after the came out in the Surface.
The button became a normal Reset one, it didn't even give any warnings about deleting everyone's memories.
In Frisk's dreams, they could see it.
Tumblr media
They could see that blue eye glowing in the dark as if it was the only light in the full darkness. They could feel the hate, the struggle abd something else that almost felt like its Determination.
The child was scared of the Skeleton now. As silly as it may sound, he never used both of his hands! It may mean that Sans may use two attacks at the same time...and also after all of that he was not sweating. That didn't tire him....to live that pain again...that was what frightened the kid.
Frisk was in their room, unable to sleep. He never stopped thinking about what happened 3 years before. Tonight he didn't want to fall asleep. He wanted to solve this problem. And then, a big smile appeared on his face. That smile almost looked like Chara's...however it was...wider, bigger and more...evil.
The reset button appeared in front of them
"If that's how you want to play then...I'll change the game too, Sans"
The World has been resetted
Thank you for reading this far, hope you enjoyed it.

The SAVEd Project Master-Ish Post
“The SAVEd: A self proclaimed “team” of four surviving beings from scrapped, destroyed or collapsed AUs who managed to SAVE shortly before the destruction of said AU, allowing them to exist in a blank void of nothing as something similar to Outcodes. Thanks to the work of W, they were able to meet under very strange circumstances… These four more often than not go by the names ‘Beta’, ‘Ai’, ‘Mist’, and ‘W’.”
Howdy! It's me, Jpeg, and that weird description of a group that I just wrote is a rough run down of the dumbest idea for a project yet. I titled it “the SAVEd project” and if you read the description above, then it may be clear why. In this semi Masterpost (more like a concept post) I’m going to list the characters and their overall bios. If you don't care about this, then I understand. If you don't feel like reading all of it at once, I’ll link the individual posts at another given point in time.
It is also likely that the plot for the project will be written out a while before I make a black and white comic version of it so I have more time to get the character designs down and until then, feel free to ask questions if you're interested. And if youre not and you think Im a stupid wanna be, then thats fine too. I don't care.
In case it is not obvious, this is a fan project made by someone who's not the greatest with digital art since I still don't really know how to use my art program. Ai is the only truly original character of mine and was not based on anyone. Beta, Mist, and W are my takes on characters and the non existent AUs they're from belong to me, but the concept for Gaster, Chara, and Sans belong to Toby Fox. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, I'm going to go in that order too. Beta, Ai, Mist, and W. That's also the order I drew them in lol. Anyway, enjoy (sorry about the fact that this is inevitably going to be a very looooooooooooong post).
Tumblr media
Name: “Beta” Dreemurr
Age: 11 (Incapable of aging)
Gender: Male
Soul Type: Red (Determination) fading into Light Blue (Patience)
Physical Features: Hair covers left eye, and scar covers right. He can see through his right eye, just like Frisk can even though their eyes also appear to be closed. Baggy jumper that resembles Classic Chara’s sweater. Locket was a gift from his AUs Asriel. Always walks around barefoot, and is the shortest of the group (not shown to scale in the drawing above). Does not appear to have a mouth physically, no one has any idea how that's supposed to work or if he uses photosynthesis or not-
Personality: Mute, but very expressive otherwise. Likes defenestrating people he doesn't like and is pretty chaotic. Can be chill and a good child sometimes. Sometimes. Always wandering off.
Tumblr media
Name: Ai
Age: 16 (Incapable of aging)
Gender: Female
Soul Type: Green (Kindness)
Physical Features: Fluffy medium length tan-ish hair and light blue-grey eyes. Where's a pure white dress and leggings and white boots. Gold star hairpiece is a solidified SAVE point.
Personality: Tries to be serious and the ‘mature adult’ of the group even though there is in fact a real adult in the group. Was kind of adopted by W. Has a very dirty sense of humor and swears a lot.
Tumblr media
Name: Mist
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Soul Type: Purple (Perseverance) but like, monster
Physical Features: Looks like any other sans, albeit a little shorter and younger. Sewed jacket and scarf. As he was homeschooled by his very busy father (W) he had a lot of down time in between lessons. (A note about their family. Papyrus is not present in the timeline as he was sent to train with Undyne in the capital. Mist and Papyrus were adopted by W at a young age when they were abandoned by their parents, their father being W’s brother. Papyrus’ nickname is Vapor.)
Personality: Overall relaxed and very dedicated to spending every waking moment of his life doing something. He can't just not do something. Mah bois a little hyperactive. Loves creating things and reading, overall the most open minded and creative of the group. Usually the one coming up with crazy plans and sometimes they even work. Has the slightest bit of survivor's guilt.
Tumblr media
Name: “W”.D Gaster
Age: No one really knows...
Gender: Male (He/They)
Soul Type: Gold (Justice) but like, monster
Physical Features: One cracked down the front of his face, the other painted on because he thought it’d be funny. Usually wearing a labcoat of sorts and always keeps I.D on him, even after his AU collapsed. Golden eyes represent his soul type technically speaking, just as Mist’s Purple eyes represent his.
Personality: Tries to be the serious responsible adult but just cant hack it. Will get revenge on people who have previously hurt him or his children. Dad jokes galore. Mist is constantly asking him to not embarrass him in front of his friends and W takes it as a challenge. Sciency and overall just a dad friend, but literally. Rather than the usual "OooO spoopy scary bad dad man" hes "OOOOOOOOOO I see LIGHT am I dead?" crack head energy when hes not trying to set a good example for Mist and the others.
This post took all day to write and I poured two hours of work into each of these pieces of art, so I would appreciate if this post doesn't go to complete waste. So if you made it this far, thank you! If you have any questions, I think my asks are working? I dunno no ones ever asked me anything.

Well this is some sort of sans i made, i cant post it elsewhere because there are some glitches, so i will just give it out here. Don't mind my ugly and weird drawing, xD Pardon my bad english. ;~;
Their name is Painty Bear, Call them Pb for short. ^^
Their height is 1,26.
"Can i use them to roleplay?" Of course!
THEY are actually genderless, since i want people to choose a gender for them,But they lean closer to the boy side. :3
"Do i have to credit you if im are gonna put them in a video, drawing or anything?" No! You don't really have to credit me, but I'd appreciate if you did.
They are 13 years old.
"Can i give them a gender, a different age, height, name?" Of course you can! Just don't tell people and force them to believe that PT is actually a boy or a girl.
"Can i make different aus, clothings for PT?" Of course!
"Can i ship him with other sanses, papyrus' gasters frisks and my oc etc?" Sure! ^^ <3
"Why are they genderless?" As i said i want people to chose their gender, and i think them being genderless suits :DDD
"Who is PBs favorite sans?" Hmm... Probably..Dream or Ccino.
"Who is PBs least favorite sans?" Fresh, PB doesn't really like loud sounds or people/monsters that look scary to them, since Fresh' eyes scare them. But PB does not hate Fresh, they just don't like his eyes.
"What color is PBs blush?" Greyish redish white :)
"If PB would have a canon ship, which one would you like?" Hard question, I honestly don't know..Probably ccino or nightmare, i don't know who ccino is created by, Nightmare is created by JokuBlog. Sorry if i got it wrong. ;-;
"Is PB shorter than blueberry?" Slightly a tiny bit shorter cx But you can make PB taller if you would like!
Also, pause for a second, i have autism so i may be rude sorry! :c
"Can i do nsfw content or drawings with PB?" No, sorry, but please no. :/,
PB is a kid, plus i don't want kids to see.
"What is PBs birthday?" June 16 ^^
"How old are you and when is your birthday?" I'm 16 and my birthday is on june 16 :>>
"Can i change PBs personality when i rp as them or do a reacting video or comic etc??" Of course you can!
PB is an innocent bean yes. <:
"Why does PB have a bunny hat?" Their brother died but before dying he gave them a hat that would remind them of their brother, ill explain this another time ^^
"Do you think PB is ever gonna get popular?" I don't think so xD Yet I'm still grateful!
"Who gave them that teddy bear?" Ds error, he made the teddy to give it to a person who has recently lost something special, ds error is not mine. I forgot the creators name ugh. ;-;
"Does PB have a bff?" They like to drink hot choco with ccino, but they aren't bffs. PB also has a kitty and a puppy
"What color is PBs tongue?" Aqua or Sugar Pink, you decide!

anonymous said... Cartoons can’t give us every detail, especially not a pixilated video game! So is there anything about Sans and Papyruses appearances that you find particularly salient in your interpretation? Like how you presume their clothes work or how tall they are!
Tumblr media
. OUT              yes!! yes yes yes. let’s talk height first, it’s simpler. my sans, currently, is 5′2″. i’ve been wanting to change that, make him shorter (closer to 5′ or even 4′11″) but every time i think about it i think about the height chart i made a few months back and decide i don’t want to remake it. so anyway, sans is 5′2″ which is like..... actually taller than the average 12 year old so yeah, he needs to be shorter (he’s the same height as frisk to me, and i hc frisk being 10-12). but uh.... i’ll change that later. papyrus??? a giant. he’s 6′7″ which like. isn’t RIDICULOUSLY tall (asgore and toriel are in the 7′+ range) but it’s way taller than even the average tall human man. he’s not the tallest character in game according to sprite size (undyne is taller than him in game) but i see him as being way taller than her. she clocks in just below 6′ i think. probably 5′10ish. so there’s a huge height difference between him and sans which also doesn’t read in-game but i’m such a sucker for it.
in terms of clothes... sans is pretty self-explanatory. i see his white shirt as being a turtlenck sweater, and he wears a bulky fleece-lined hoodie over it. it gives the appearance of him being cold (which is impossible for a skeleton) while actually providing lots of extra padding, protecting him from injuries. he really is just wearing black basketball shorts, and slippers. that’s not his only outfit though! he has a lot of alternate clothes but the hoodie always stays, and if he’s not wearing the slippers, it’s socks and sandals. you can thank @isoscelesnightmare for that one lol. papyrus.... his battle body is definitely a favorite outfit. i think the torso part of it is definitely made of like..... styrofoam or something else similar. it’s shoddily made, definitely molded by hand. everything else? just mismatched clothes. his legs and arms which read as black? he’s basically wearing a leotard. it’s like, a superhero costume. and i have a lot of headcanons surrounding his red scarf that i can talk about another time. his boots are the same boots undyne has. she gave them to him. and his gloves he bought at the shop when they first moved to snowdin because he thought they made him look cool.
okay what else... let’s talk about their eyes! sans lets his eye-lights show almost all the time (except in those creepy moments). papyrus rarely does. so skeletons really don’t need to. but their eyelights glow a certain color if they’re using healing magic or any type of soul magic. this tracks with sans’ eye glowing blue/yellow etc in the fight. we still never see this from papyrus but i like to think his eye-lights also glow his general color (red) when he’s fighting frisk even though we don’t see that. (also fun unrelated sidenote: gaster’s color is purple. because red + blue.)
if you strip them both down do only their bones, no clothes, they’re both thinner than they appear. most of sans’ bulk comes from his jacket. however, he is still stocky and yes, ‘big-boned’. also!! sans walks with a slouch. keeping his hands in his pockets sorta keeps him in a hunched over position. papyrus on the other hand has the most rigid backbone ever.
also, sans can open his mouth. i know we don’t see this in game, but just.... he can. i don’t care to come up with ways he can talk and eat without opening his mouth, so he does. that being said -- neither of them can change the shape of their mouths/expressions. they’re stuck in normal skeleton positions. they can crease their brows, which contributes to facial expression, but most of how they express emotions through their faces is in their eyes. ever notice how sans’ dialogue sprite sometimes looks more amused than other times? it’s ALL in the eye-lights -- nothing else changes.
that’s all for now -- i’ll definitely add more if i think of more!! thank you!!

fandom: Undertale, Dreamtale, Baby Blaster AU
Characters: Dream Sans, Baby Blaster Papyrus, Baby Blaster Sans, W.D. Gaster
warnings:  Painful Transformation, forced experimentation, implied child abuse
word count: 3,106
Summary: Dream finds himself in a darker AU, strapped to a table, with an Evil Gaster starting to do a horrible experiment on him.
"Wh-why are you doing this?" Dream asked, struggling a little in the restraints that he had woken up in. The positivity guardian had been wandering through AUs, doing his best to help people when he had stumbled into a particularly low-positivity AU. He had noticed, upon entering Snowdin, that the Papyrus and Sans of the AU wasn't living there. He had also heard the monsters gossiping in Grillbys - that the head royal scientist, W.D. Gaster had become more mysterious and reclusive in the past couple of years. Some Sanses and Papyri were related to Gasters, others were adopted and some... Well, at the time, Dream had hoped that this was an AU with a good - or at least a well-meaning Gaster.
Pinned down with magical restraints as the scientist stared down impassively from the operating table he'd been strapped to, the other's eye lights cold and harsh proved otherwise. Still, the doctor had underestimated his magical strength - as he could still use his magic some, and tried to reach out to the other, hoping to encourage any compassion and positive feelings that existed within the tall skeleton monster "You don't... You don't have to do whatever it is that you've kidnapped me fore. Just let me go, and I will leave you and yours alone." He would, perhaps, talk about this AU rather loudly with Ink.. In a place that he knew that Cross and the other Bad Sanses frequented, commenting that it was such a shame that he and Ink couldn't directly interfere with AUs and though he was terribly worried for the sans and Papyrus of that AU... there wasn't much that he could do...
"I do not know how you came to be. There are no other skeleton monsters in the underground apart from WDG-1-S, WDG-2-P and myself. Who are you?" The Gaster demanded, his white eye lights flashing with irritation "Particularly a monster of your magical power would have been known by myself as well as the King and Queen. Yet I have never met you before. Who are you and why have you been hiding? What reason do you have from coming out of seclusion now?"
"I... I will tell you who I am, if you let me up. I'm afraid that it's not going to make a lot of sense, and you may not believe me." Dream responded, not wanting to explain that he was from an alternate universe to a Gaster like this - pinned down and unable to teleport away as Gasters like this... Tended to react one of a couple of different ways, and none of them meant good things for himself.
"No, I will not let you go unless you explain yourself. Besides, either of my experiments are growing like they should. Despite your slight stature and mysterious origins, you are a fully grown skeleton, and it would be a waste to simply wait for you to tell me what I want to know, when that doesn't really matter." Dr. Gaster responded, walking out of Dream's line of sight before coming back again, holding a glowing syringe.
Dream had no idea what was in the syringe, but he doubted that it was anything good. Trying to suppress the panic clawing at his soul, He tried to use his magic on the other - to force the other into a calm and positive state - in the hopes that the Gaster would be more amenable to letting him go. White hot pain shot through his body from the restraints on his wrists and ankles, causing the guardian of positivity to arch off of the cold metal table and scream in pain, twisting and shuddering, and refusing to sob or cry, despite pain that he was in, not wanting to show more weakness than he already had to this Gaster.
The doctor stared down at him for a couple of moments, a mildly concerned expression appearing on his face before the other's face smoothed out again into the impassive calm of before "Fascinating. You appear to have empathic magic of some kind. Were you trying to pull on my emotions? Perhaps manipulate me into letting you go? Nevertheless, I will be curious to see how your powers will translate once the serum changes you. Now, summon your soul."
"W-why would I show you m-my soul?" Dream responded, shifting away a little from the scientist and the ominously glowing syringe. The last thing he wanted to do was to show the other his soul - as it was shaped like the golden apple he'd consumed in a desperate attempt to keep it from Nightmare many centuries ago. He really didn't need the other monster focused on him any more than the other already was.
"Because it will aid in the transformation process. I cannot initiate a Fight with you, as otherwise I will be unable to directly interact with your soul." Gaster answered, raising the syringe and positioning it over the guardian's chest, right above where his soul was located, safely hidden behind a cage of bones. "Now, do as I say."
"No!" Dream responded defiantly, golden eye lights flashing with determination. He wasn't going to help this cruel monster, even if it was going to make things worse for him. "I have no reason to do what you want, and I don't care that you're the head royal scientist and the monsters of this world worship the ground you walk on. I know what you truly are. A cold, cruel being who torments those who cannot fight back against you for your own twisted sense of pride and delight."
"I do what I do in order to protect monster kind! WDG-1-S and 2-P will be powerful weapons to be used against the humans once we reach the surface, but for now they are young and weak. You will be the proof of concept once you've finished turning." Gaster responded "Even if your main powers are empathic in nature, it will be interesting to see what offensive capabilities you do have and how they will manifest in your new form. I suggest that you stay still, or you will cause unnecessary damage to your soul." With that, the scientist shoved the very sharp point of the needle through Dream's sternum, piercing his soul.
The guardian flinched, but forced himself to stay still as the contents of the syringe were slowly injected into him, the foreign magic burning and painful enough to force tears of pain to trickle treacherously from his eye sockets. Dream's breathing was breathing fast and raggedly, his body trembling violently as he desperately stopped himself from screaming in pain, not wanting to give the sadistic scientist the satisfaction of reacting in pain. The horrific burning sensations spread from his soul along his ribcage and down his spine. He could feel the foreign magic spread inch by excruciating inch along his arms and down his legs, and Dream forced himself to stay silent, even as he instinctively began to thrash and twist in the restraints, stubbornly staying silent.
Once the magic had spread to every part of his body, Dream felt his vision begin to blur and darken... He could hear the distant sounds of someone screaming in abject pain - the kinds of screams that Nightmare had let out as the other had been forced to turn into the tentacled, corrupted being he currently was. The screams started to turn into pained howls, and he distantly heard the sounds of clothing tearing and ripping - and... Something was pulling on his arms and wrists as he continued to thrash blindly, unable to see. He felt himself shifting and warping, his form changing against his will. Dream could feel his bones twisting and shifting, his joints shifting and warping, forcing pained howls to leave his lips as he desperately thrashed and fought against the restraints as he desperately tried to understand what was going on.
Once the fiery magic faded after what felt like an agonizing eternity later, a terrified sob left his lips, but all Dream heard was a whimper of some sort of animal - a dog, perhaps? The Guardian force himself to turn on his eye lights again, once again finding himself in the lab still, but the table  he'd been strapped to was broken, the restraints shattered. He was on his hands and feet, and tensed when he heard the scientist speak.
"Fascinating... You are much smaller than I anticipated you to be. Ah well, at least you didn't dust from the process. Now, come WDG-3. I will bring you to your cell. Depending on how well you behave, I will introduce you to the other two subje-” The Scientist spoke, his voice loud and commanding and Dream wasn’t going to listen to him.
Dream let out a low, warning growl, feeling his tail swish low and fast behind him as he crouched before charging Dr. Gaster, leaping up and landing squarely on the other’s chest, his forepaws pinning the other’s shoulders to the ground, his back paws digging into the other’s spine. He opened his jaws, the bifurcated lower mandible widening a little as a bright, golden light gathered between his jaws, blasting the scientist moments later, the sound of the laser firing overpowering the other’s screams of pain and horror. With the threat a neutralized and twitching ball of tears, Dream ran off with a fast, easy stride, having caught the scent of frightened pups, following their subtle scent and feeling the pulse of their young souls and magic.
The positivity guardian found the pups - small and frightened, curling around one another and whimpering in confusion and fight. He let out a quiet, purring sound, pulsing his magic towards them in soothing, calming waves. The leaner and lankier one peeked at him with curious orange eyes, while the shorter, squatter pup growled a little, blue eyes glimmering with suspicion. Dream blasted the cell doors open with blue light before laying down on the floor and rolling over onto his side, showing the both of them his belly, hoping that the show of trust and submission would calm the pups.
The orange-eyed pup perked up and took several bounding steps towards Dream, followed more cautiously by the blue-eyed pup. Dream stayed laying down on his belly - despite the fact that he really just wanted to grab the pups and run as fast as he could, to run home to safety where the three of them would be safe and protected, but he didn’t want to scare the little ones more than they already were.
“{who are you?}” The blue-eyed pup asked, sniffing at him, speaking in Hands “{Never seen you before. Did He send you?}”
“{YOU’RE LIKE US! WE’VE NEVER SEEN ANYONE LIKE US BUT HIM BEFORE, BUT HE HAS TWO LEGS ALWAYS, NOT FOUR SOMETIMES.}” The orange-eyed pup added on, his tail wagging excitedly as he bounded up to the other gaster blaster beast, sniffing him curiously before happily licking his muzzle with a bright orange tongue a couple of times, excited and hopeful.
“{My name is Dream. He forced me into this form, like he forced the both of you. I can take you away from here. Bring you somewhere safe. Where He can’t ever hurt you again.}” The guardian of positivity responded, meaning what he said.
“{where would we go? it’s not like we can escape, we’ve tried before. no matter where we go in the underground, he finds us again and brings us back.}” the blue eyed pup responded, flopping on the floor near Dream, lightly batting at the tip of his tail, morose and unhappy.
“{I’m not from this universe, and I can take you from this AU so that you two will be safe from Him for the rest of your lives.}" Dream responded, knowing that his words sounded strange and fantastic, but he meant it. Even if he had to hide them in a Haventale so that Ink didn’t know that he’d taken a couple of monsters out of their home timelines, he wasn’t going to let these pups suffer.
"{how did you get here? why did you come here?}" The suspicious little Sans-pup asked, moving a little bit closer to Dream, still wary of the stranger.
"{I can create portals that allow me to move through different universes. I travel to different worlds in order to protect them from those who would cause pain, chaos and destruction.}" Dream explained honestly, still laying on his side and staying still, despite desperately wanting to nuzzle and pick up both of the pups with his magic and flee through the nearest portal. He had no idea whether or not the Gaster had other beings involved with this project and the positive guardian was unsure how long he would be able to fend them off, as the painful transformation had taken a heavy toll on him - and he was still under the effects of the sedative that had been used to knock him unconscious so that he could be taken to the lab.
"{THAT'S REALLY AMAZING! YOU MUST BE A REALLY COOL HERO! I THINK WE SHOULD GO WITH HIM, BROTHER. I DON'T LIKE THE EXPERIMENTS THAT THE SCIENTIST RUNS ON US AND I... WHILE I WANT TO BELIEVE THAT HE CAN BE BETTER, I WOULD RATHER THE BOTH OF US BE SAFE, THAN WAITING FOR HIM TO LEARN HOW TO BE BETTER.}" The Papyrus-pup responded, his voice loud and boisterous... And having definitely caught someone's attention, as Dream could sense someone walking towards them.
"{ok, bro. it's not like anything worse could happen to us then what's already gone on...}" The Sans pup responded after a moment, walking over to Dream and sitting down next to the guardian. "{so how do these portal thingies work?}"
Dream stood up, answering as he did so "{I open a portal with my magic and we step through. Grab anything from your cell that you want to keep - we need to get going now, as there's someone heading towards us and I don't think they'd help us escape.}" With a flick of his tail, he opened a portal home.
The young Sans pup glanced briefly back into the barren cell before shaking his head “nah, there’s nothing there for either of us. C’mon bro, let’s go to our new home.”
The Pup-pyrus nodded and bounced through the portal "{WOAH! THIS PLACE LOOKS VERY DIFFERENT THAN THE LAB! COME OUTSIDE BROTHER!!}"
"{sure thing bro.}" The young Sans responded as he swiftly walked through the portal, his little claws clicking against the tile floor before stepping onto the blackened grass of the AU that Dream had opened  portal too.
Dream rushed through the portal as soon as both of the young pups were safely on the other side, closing it immediately - hearing the sound of someone calling out to them, desperately, as if to try to stop them, but the positivity guardian paid the being no mind, focused on the little ones. "{Do you two need anything to eat? Are you tired? It is safe to rest here, if you need to sleep.}"
"{sleep sounds good, but apart from that me an' my bro are fine. the doctor had finished his awful testing on us for the day had given us something to eat before you showed up. this is a very strange part of an underground.}" The little Sans pup responded, his tail wagging a little as he joined Dream at the base of what was once a large and beautiful tree, now nothing more than a big, twisted and blackened stump.
Not that Dream had registered this, nor that the grass was black and twisted, and the sky above them was a warped, dark color. "{We're not in any underground. In this AU, monsters and humans live in harmony. There was never a war between the two races... Now come, sleep with me. Nighty'll be by before too long to check on us.}" There was... Something important that he seemed to have forgotten, but the guardian of positivity was just so exhausted and glad to be home with the pups who had so desperately needed to be rescued.
"{WHO OR WHAT IS NIGHTY?}" The pup-pyrus asked curiously, tilting his head a little as he walked over to where his sleepy brother and their Mysterious Rescuer were laying, cuddled together. He didn't really want to sleep right now, but they did look cozy... And he could explore later.
"{Nighty... He's my other half. M' positivity guardian. He's negativity. We balance each other out. Should be close to the tree or coming, since he's not here.}" Dream responded with a jaw-cracking yawn as he carefully grabbed his tattered cape and draped it over the pups before curling around the both of them. The clothes he had been wearing had been almost entirely shredded - including his boots and gloves, but pieces of them still clung to his alternate form. He really hoped that Nightmare didn't freak out at how different he looked - or at least he didn't in a way that woke up the pups. Dream had a feeling that they'd run if his mate reacted badly, and chasing them down would be a hassle. One that he would be happy to deal with, but would rather avoid if at all possible.
"{what's a tree?}" Sans asked curiously, yawning a little and nuzzling into his brother, a soft rumbling sound, not unlike a purr rumbling from his little chest. It was very cute, made cuter by Papyrus' answering purr.
"{It's a big plant. it has branches and leaves... Flowers and fruit sometimes... I'll explain better after we've all rested.}" Dream promised, curling a little more around both of the small pups. It was unfortunate that he'd shrunk down in size, after he'd returned home. He was still larger than both the young Sans and Papyrus, but not by much. He yawned again and gently licked both of the pups - it was an instinctual thing - as he wanted to check the both of them over, sniffing at the both of them, satisfied that they were both healthy. He didn't like the look of the metal plates affixed to their forearms, but he was pretty sure that he or Nightmare would be able to get them off once everyone was awake - or if it was affixed via magic, they could find a friendly Gaster to remove the plates from the children.
There was something very important pressing at the back of Dream's conscious mind, but the guardian of positivity couldn't place just what it was. Oh well, he'd remember after he rested.

[DRABBLE] A Talk in the Woods
There was a cool breeze out that night – not too chill, or too bustly. A nice time for a walk, and it wasn't like the cold bothered skeletons much anyway. The woods were not wholly barren, and, with the spring air beginning to drift in, the woodlands' residents were awakening and returning.
Papyrus had taken to walking the woods more often lately, but he had asked his brother to accompany him this time. He didn't say as much, but he desired to talk with him, and he picked up on that well enough with his sibling intuition.
It had been a while since they'd really sat down and talked, and Papyrus was nervous. Sans picked up on that well enough, but didn't address it immediately. He remembered how poorly their last real heart to heart had gone, before they officially made the move to the surface-bound timeline. Sans still hadn't grown accustomed to their new home, and rarely spent time here, but he was trying.
"We can stop for a sec if you want," Papyrus suggested, halting and spinning on his heels to face Sans, who trailed behind him sluggishly. They'd kept a slow pace, but they had still gone quite far. "I got a couple thermoses. Thermii?? Of hot chocolate."
Sans was not tired, but… he appreciated the concern, and Papyrus actually addressing him. The silence had been awkward. It, faintly, distantly, reminded him of being led through the wartorn woods on a chain. He did not wish to be in that position again, of being led on a chain, wherever his brother went, with no say and no real agency.
"... yeah, sure." Sans took a seat on a nearby stump. His brother sat nearby on a log, and handed him a thermos, while pulling out his own, popping the cap and taking a decent swig of it.
Skeletons did not have to worry about burning their tongues or scalding their throats so much, seeing as they did not have throats, and did not always have tongues. But they could still indulge in the warmth that hot drinks invited, and the way it could cool nerves, though they lacked those too.
Papyrus spent a moment taking in that warmth, and holding it, before he dared let any of the cold back in by speaking.
"Bro? Can I ask you something?"
Sans knew something was coming, but chose to hold off on answering the question until he'd warmed his palms, and then his jaws and neck, with the welcome beverage. "it's about us staying here, yeah?" That was his guess. Why talk about it here, and now, of all times and places?
"... Yeah. Are you actually okay with this?"
Sans was a little taken aback, his jaw shifting in consideration, and his back straightening from its near ever-present hunch. "why wouldn't I be?"
"Humans, for a start." Papyrus was well aware that was a problem for both of them. "Not gonna pretend I don't get freaked out but uh. My symptoms are probably a lil' easier to manage."
Sans frowned. "i'm not gonna dog out in a mall and start killin' people, pap. i've been dog shoppin' before."
He assumed he would be fine, even if there was more than a little thread of doubt, and quite a hefty chunk of worry dangling at the end of it - he didn't know how well his emotions would be kept in check in such a situation for certain. He knew that war overwhelmed him at a near constant, to the point where it took years for him to regain any normalcy, by seemingly sheer chance.
Papyrus had a great many more concerns, and would come back to that one later. It wasn't the biggest concern, after all.
"I don't wanna keep leadin' you around like you ain't got a choice in it, Sans."
The elder brother very much did not enjoy when his younger sibling took words from his head like that, though he knew full well that at times they may as well be bound twins, and thus privy to reading each other so well. He fully blamed that on how they came to be, though he had no evidence of such.
He shifted a bit on his stump, legs dangling, and heels kicking into the bark in an uncomfortable rhythm. "but that's the thing. i don't. not if i wanna keep up with you."
"But you--"
Papyrus halted his exclamation suddenly. He stared at his brother, swallowing the words that hadn't made it past his teeth, and letting them reform in a moment.
"... You don't have to keep up with me, dude." The weight and gravity of his tone came from its sobriety now, and not its volume. "This isn't like, some thing like with Sunny and Sleepy. I'm not gonna disappear and be a different person one day. You're not gonna forget or lose me. Not as long as we actually talk."
Sans was fortunate for that gravity. Without it, had there been any inch of panic, he would have caught onto it and amplified it, it would have rattled between the walls of his rib cage and grown and grown until it burst from him a thousand fold too large for it. That was the true nature of his curse, and something he had yet to fully shake.
His gaze didn't lift from his thermos, but his legs slowly came to a stop. There was a bit of a sniff.
"If you wanted to shack up in the café timeline, I don't think Sunny would mind. If you feel more comfortable there. Or, hell-- I'm sure Dad would be okay with you staying there too. You don't gotta force yourself to be somewhere that makes you feel uncomfortable."
Sans' grip on his thermos tightened a little, though, fortunately, there was no threat of it being crushed. He simply needed that extra bit of grip, to stay his hands from shaking.
He was safe, for now at least. But he knew the anxiety was welling up in him. He didn't want to disturb this place. He didn't want to lose control of himself when—
"but you're forcin' yourself, pap. you're scared." He could tell, even having not seen the way his brother had worried over applications and spilled his anxieties to his adoptive guidance. "but you're bravin' through it. and i get it. but i'm just not brave like you are. i just deal."
The taller skeleton's face became yet more grave, and his teeth clicked together in a frown, wordless for a time. It was true, he was forcing himself, and he was scared. The fact that he was facing surface life with humans, despite being afraid, meant he could not refute being brave, much as he didn't think himself such. But he could refute that his brother was not also brave, and perhaps more so than he was.
After a good solid minute of thought, Papyrus stood, walked over to his brother's stump, and sat next to him atop it.
"I don't think you're givin' yourself much credit, Sans. Ya forget it's you who took that soul, instead of me?" He nudged the shorter skeleton with his elbow, against the red sweater, about where said soul would be resting. "Even before that. So what if you're not brave the exact same way I am? Don't mean you're not. We're not the same. Even if people like pointin' out how much we got in common with the bastard who made us, heh."
Papyrus took a long swig of his thermos, enough to drain it, and it gave Sans time to really think. His younger brother, he often considered, was the lesser of experience, at least in overall years, but maybe not of wisdom. Sans secluded himself a lot, mostly out of fear and distrust of others, but largely out of fear and distrust of himself. That removed him from a lot of opportunity for experience, and meant Papyrus could catch up — not just catch up, but overtake him.
"you're startin' to sound like one of those fuckin' cwote posts, bro. lay off the tumblr." There was a bit of a smirk from him.
"Oh my god… Anything but that." Papyrus snickered a bit, though that gravity lessened none. "Seriously though. No one minds you bein' around. People want you around. I want you around, and to fuckin’-- have a chance at the surface, y’know? But not if it's gonna fuckin' blow your soul out from anxiety."
It was weird. Sans had always been the one worrying about his brother. It was always his focus in life, his one real purpose. Things had gone astray since their colliding with the multiverse, granted, and a few others had gained his worry, but never to the same degree of his brother. It wasn't just a purpose that Gaster had granted him upon his brother's birth: it was a purpose he fully adopted within his own heart and mind.
He knew that other people had worried for him before. People did care about him. He'd barely heeded them. He'd never really felt like he mattered, not to himself, not if his brother was okay, so it was difficult to believe he mattered to anyone else.
It was weird, that Papyrus worried so much for him. But his heavy, heavy heart, felt lighter for it. The logic felt right; if he actually started taking himself into account, started to look out and after himself in some way… would that help his brother be more okay, too?
Would caring for his own self, be an act of caring for his brother?
It always went back to him. 'You don't have to keep up with me' came back to haunt him from moments before, and he sighed his hectic thoughts out slowly through his nasal cavity. His mind was moving a little too fast; maybe it was trying to stay ahead, rather than keep up.
Papyrus, intuitive as he was, could tell that something was amiss. He let go of his thermos with one hand and wrapped the arm around Sans' shoulders, pulling him into a half-hug.
"You don't gotta figure it all out right this second, dude. Just… figure yourself into the equations while ya do."
"... yeah. i guess." He didn't sound enthusiastic, but he had not stopped thinking just yet. It'd wind down slowly, it had to, because sudden change panicked him.
"And for my part, I'll try to stop runnin' into shit so much without tellin' ya. Like, I'll let you know when I get this job shit figured out, keep you up on my schedules when I do…" Papyrus' cup was stowed in his inventory, and he stood up from the stump. "Y'know, actually try to keep ya in the loop, heh. I know I suck at doin' that, and it don't really help."
Sans gave a small smile, and little disagreement-- but no teasing, this time. He appreciated the effort. He hadn't felt like they'd been able to talk this frankly in a very, very long time.

You pick the skelebros, please include classic. They find out that their s/o is a writer, and writes amazing stories, full fledged books, but never shows anyone because she thinks they’re shit. She writes mostly romance, and a lot of it is monster x human, and then she also writes fantasy, but usually portrays the humans as the villain, not the monsters. She has one book, that is actually about everything that has happened since they fell into the underground, in extreme detail. Everything.
(I did UT, MT and Gaster!Sans and Papyrus)
Undertale!Sans
Sans found out about your work through Alphys who hadrecently fallen in love with your newest novel involving a “Shape ofWater” vibe and showed it to Sans who instantly recognized the Author’sname. Wanting to reveal he knows of your books in the cheekiest way possible,Sans asks Alphys for the cheesiest romance novel you made, and she hands himthis book called “The Tale of the Underground”.
Sans kinda just snorts at the title, inwardly squealing athow cute the title was and began to read it. He was surprised that this wasBASICALLY your diary dictating your thoughts as you travelled the Undergroundand…ooooohh boy, haha, Sans pulled at the collar on his shirt.
Ho boy was this detailed.
Marking the page, Sans went home and awaited your arrival. The second you walked in the door with a distracted “Hey, Babe!” Sansopened the book and read aloud: “…after sans had licked the red spaghetti sauceoff his teeth, i suddenly had the hugest urge to kiss his teeth until my lipswere numb.“
Silence was the only response he received.
“that offerstill stand, dear?”
Undertale!Papyrus
This sweet cinnamon roll was simply dusting (the dirt kind, not the dead monster kind) the house when he came across an unfinished booksitting on your desk wide open. Papyrus wasn’t one to snoop, he honestly didn’tmean to, but he saw the words “Papyrus” and “Gorgeous” nextto each other and allowed himself to read several one chapter.
Wowie!! Whoever this author is must have VERY good sourcesbecause it sounds like his wonderful S/O wrote this from entirely their persep-OH!! IT WAS!! Papyrus felt a wave of embarrassment and fluster overflow hisemotions. H-HE REALLY SHOULDN’T CONTINUE, BUT…HIS S/O OBVIOUSLY PUT A LOT OFWORK INTO THIS BOOK A-AND HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE AN ADEQUATE CRITIQUE!!
So he read everything up until the part you stopped writing(which he spent a good 10 minutes mourning over) before rushing back to hischores, waiting for you to get home later tonight.
Once you walked in the door Papyrus scooped you in his arms, twirled you around and planted a big fat kiss to your lips before allowing youto speak.
“Wh-what’s withthe greeting?” You asked, face completely red from blushing, “N-notthat I mind!” Papyrus simply grinned and kissed you again before helpingyou brush off the snow from your clothes.
“OH, NOTHING INPARRICULAR, I JUST WANTED TO HELP OUT MY ADORING SWEETHEART!”
“Aww, that’s awfully sweet of you!”
“WELL OF COURSE!! ALTHOUGH MAY I ASK A QUICK QUESTION?”
“Shoot.”
“HOW EXACTLY AM I A ‘PRECIOUS NOODLEBONES SKELE-BEAN THATCAN MAKE GLOOMY DAYS GO EXTINCT BY SOUNDING LIKE A BABY RATTLE SNAKE WHENEVERMY BONES RATTLE WHEN I’M HAPPY’?”
You just knew thatsentence was going to come back and haunt you….
Mafiatale!Sans (Colt)
He’s supposed to be grabbing a book on “how to wash bloodstains out of white clothes” when he sees your name scrawled across a bookin the “bestseller” section of the bookstore. At first he thinks it’s acoincidence, but then he picks up the book and thumbs through it, when this employee bounces along andasks if he’s interested in the series.
Series???? This should be good. Naturally, he says “yeah, but I dunno where tostart” which allows the employee to gush about how much she loves your work and how it has almost exclusivelyhuman/monster pairings that more often than not revealed the darker side ofhumanity through satirical situations and comedic monster characters.
Colt had to snort a little at that, not that he wasjudging (he was probably the reason you began the monster/human pairingsanyway) but he knew how much you wanted to repeatedly smack the whole ofhumanity with a baseball bat until it gained some sense and hey, the pen ismightier than the sword, right?
So after Colt accidentallybought one of the shorter book series, and a book labelled “Trip Down Under” heleft the store (completely forgetting his original goal) and began devouringthe books whenever you weren’t with him.
Once he got to “Trip Down Under” he nearly had a heart attack. Before this book, he thought your other ones were marvelously written, balancingpure, unadulterated snark with mushy romance (a trait that he was proud toadmit only he was the recipient of irl)but this one was………an extremelydetailed step-by-step walkthrough of your entire trip in the Underground.
Granted, there were different names and places andenvironments used, but this was creepy!!!He specifically remembered having this exactsame conversation with you at 1am about whether or not condiments were anacceptable flavor spice for pet foods that the protag and her romantic interestwere having.
So, what does he do? After his post-mission meeting withDon Asgore ends and he heads home and proceeds to do your normal routine of smothering each otherin relieved affection before placing his hand on your back and the other onyour head, dipping you backwards.
With a feral grin, he leaned in and whispered to you: “Am Iliving up to your expectations as your bone-ified,straight-shooting, suave-talking punster of a soulmate?”
You suddenly regretted every life choice you’ve ever made.
Mafiatale!Papyrus (Sniper)
This guy was most likely gossiping with Bayonet (Undyne)when she offhandedly mentioned this romance novel series she was reading thatwas set in a fantasy world that had a boss fight similar to the one she experienced when you had gone through Waterfall. Shethought it was just a coincidence, after all, the fight became common knowledge after a while but Sniper’s experience taught him nothingwas a coincidence.
So he went and Googled everything he could about thisauthor.
He found online versions of your books, and read the book that Bayonet said she was reading, and BOY WAS HE SURPRISED. You certainly were detailed in your adventures, but you changed enough facts and names and places so it seemed that every important Family Secret you experienced were all different.
Being the little prankster he was, Sniper wanted to give you a scare. But, in order to do that, he had to pretend he had just heard about your book, and went and Google’d a picture of you.
WOWZA, DOES THIS PERSON LOOK FAMILIAR!!! HEY, S/O! COME LOOK AT THISPERSON!! YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU HAD A TWIN!!!
You briefly considered lying to him when you felt embarrassment and a bit of fear well up inside you, but that idea wasquickly erased. “Sniper, darling….that’s….that’s me!”
Sniper looked back and forth between you andyour online picture before turning to you with a flirtatious smile: “OH GOOD, FOR A MINUTE I THOUGHT SOMEONE HADSTOLEN MY RECIPE FOR FONDUE! WINK!”
“OH MY GOSH, SNIPER!!!!”
Gaster!Sans (G)
You and G were out on a casual date in the town, arms linked, pulling you close together as you wandered aimlessly, idly chatting abouteverything and anything. Your romantic peace was interrupted by a pair of girlswho spotted you entering the park and ran over to greet you.
They immediately began squealing about your latest bookcalled “Echoes of Home” which set you off into an internal panic, G WASN’TSUPPOSED TO FIND OUT ABOUT THIS BOOK, OH STARS YOU WERE GOING TO DIE OF EMBARRASSMENT!!!
Without any regard for your dwindling dignity, the girlscontinued to fangirl about “Echoes of Home” Going on and on and on about howmuch they fell so hard for the “teeth-grindinglyhot-headed, self-righteous, aloof little jerk of a hunk”.
At one point in the conversation one girl looked over at Gwho had been relatively silent and said with an awe-struck face “Is this him???”She almost screamed with glee. Sensing this was your way out, your shushedloudly and began dragging G away with a quick wink to the girls who giggled andwaved goodbye (you were sure one was about to faint from swooning so hard).
Once you were both out of earshot G threw you a curious look“what was that about?” He asked, your face erupted into color and tried tobrush it off as nothing.
The matter was dropped until you walked past a bookstore with “Echoes of Home”displayed proudly on the window, showcasing the edition of the book with a picture of the main characters in each other’s embrace. “ain’t nuthin, huh?” He asked with anincreasing smirk, you frantically tried to pry G away, but CURSE HIS STRENGTH he was too hard to move!!
“huh, this guy on the cover looks like a weird version ofme. total coincidence, am i right?”
“YEP, ABSOLUTELY, LET’S GO NOW!!”
“ah, darlin’ I’m messing with ya. I’ve known about your bookwriting career for a while.”
“You wHAT!?”
“yeah, your fangirls are rabid.”
Cue an embarrassment-induced faint.
Gaster!Papyrus (Aster)
Aster was out on a grocery runwhen he came across an elderly woman struggling with her bags and decided tohelp her. While he was stuffing the bags inside her car, the old woman hadmentioned that he reminded her of the main protagonist in this book: Tall, suave, drop-dead gorgeous, and the personification of chivalry.
Since there wasn’t aplethora of writers in the Underground, Aster made an inquiry as to who thewriter was, the old woman couldn’t remember for the life of her, but she didgive him the book’s title and recommended he read them as soon as possible.
And so he did.
The book was a romance novel filledwith cheesy fantasies that were definitely made for the hopeless romantics.Scenarios of tall but gentlemanly heroes with a passion for science or artoften guided or encouraged a lost, starry-eyed female to follow her dreams andscrew with the system if it tried to stop her.
After several novels, hefinally read the one the old lady had recommended him, and, oh dear, is that-!!???It is!!!!
This book was a, uh, detailed edition of your travels in theUnderground.
He knows this because he’s the one who taught you thatspecific chemical formula of the carbohydrate strings which would allow foroptimum flavor!!!
And- hey wait, he rememberedthis part!! This was when he took you out on your first official date with him!!He was always so scared he over did it on the pulling out all your chairs, taking your coat, having no physical contact beyond hand holding or arm linkingbut this narrative showed that you-you….oh….didyou really think that?????
Aster felt his face explode incolor and he had to put the book he felt so flustered.
Later, when you came homethat day from a sleepover with Alphys and Undyne, Aster met you at the door likenormal, took your coat, kissed your cheek and asked you how your day was. Onceyou both got the pleasantries out of the way, Pap circled his arms around youand bent down.
“Do I really make you swoonjust by existing, my darling star?”

I couldn't work on page 4 today since I spent most of it sleeping so I thought since I had some funny headcanons about the Trust-vers (Some will actually appear in some form in the comic)
Remember these are my headcanons and not necessarily Canon to the Trust fanfic.
* Grillby originally lived in his bar. It was a one bedroom house that he renovated himself into a bar with a kitchen in the back and a side room that you can only access through the kitchen.
* Grillby bought his house when his cousin was born and he was asked to take care of them from time to time, and to help give a more stable place for his aunt to live during pregnancy since the Hotlands were still chaotic with construction at the time. He didn't put a lot of thought into the house besides what his aunt wanted and that he needed to ensure it had a full kitchen.
* speaking of layouts, his bar actually has five exits. One is the front door, one is the back door. There are also three secret doors: One right next to the door to the kitchen that you'd only find if you knew it was there and where to press on the wall, a camouflaged door in the side room, and A secret door near the roof that only Sans and Papyrus can get to and leads out into a very thickly branched tree outside. Grillby had this last one installed with the door in the roof of the kitchen to give the two kids more piece of mind for finding a quick escape.
* other additions and renovations he made is a secret doorway next to the jukebox that originally only Sans and Papyrus knew about, but now is also known about by Greater Dog, a walkway built into the rafters (plus hidden lounge area with slightly raised guards) for sans that also includes an 'emergency exit' into the side room, and the entire removal of the door to Grillby's kitchen at his private home after the door had been destroyed in a 'blaster incident' .
* Alphys gets Sans, Papyrus, and Undyne to watch anime with her, and tries to convince them that it's human history so they won't mock her for it. Sans clues in right away, Papyrus takes until about the second season of their third anime about giant robots fighting in space To clue in, Undyne and Gnash are 10000% convinced (Frank thinks it's hysterical and never corrects this)
* speaking of the Undyne family, they have a running tab at Grillby's. Not for food, they always pay that, but for things they broke. There are three separate categories for each family member. Gnash has the highest item count followed by Undyne, but Frank broke the most expensive item (the jukebox). Grillby waved the tab for the Jukebox in favor of Frank making a short notice house call to do a medical exam on Sans and Papyrus, but asked Frank to remind Gnash that he still owes him for the damages to his bar counter, wall, and a customer's umbrella and abacas.
* Undyne was so excited to one day ride around on papyrus's back that he had to be forcibly stopped by Frank or Grillby a few times when Papyrus was still to small. Shed usually try and get on Sans who would just plop down on the ground and not move. Ever. Gnash would think it was hysterical.
* As kids Papyrus was always the Short One, even smaller than Alphys. Undyne would crack jokes and call him Shorty until he hit 12 and had a sudden growth spurt that just didn't seem to stop until he hit 18 and was suddenly even taller than Gnash. Undyne still calls him Shorty, even if he's at least a foot taller than her.
* Speaking of Heights, as kids Undyne was the tallest, followed by Alphys, then Sans, then Papyrus. As adults it's now Papyrus, Undyne, Alphys, and Sans. Sans doesn't mind.
* Sans is shorter than Papyrus but bulkier and can lift more weight. In his Blaster form he can even comfortably carry Alphys.
* Papyrus and Sans actually suggested carrying Undyne and Alphys once. Mostly as a mock play of an anime they were watching about a girl who rode on the back of a wolf. Undyne had the time of her life whipping through the trees. Alphys tried but kept falling off and didn't think it was that much fun even though Sans did his best to make sure she wouldn't fall off. With some help Sans made a saddle for her which surprisingly worked very well and Alphys enjoyed her next ride. She isn't comfortable using her friend as a means of transportation though, especially Sans, so it's a once in a blue moon/emergency thing that has her do this.
* Papyrus and Undyne have battle plans for how they could use his Blaster form and her spears in combat. It's as epic as it sounds. Frank had to use every ounce of his own determination to keep Gnash from challenging them.
* Asgore makes frequent trips to Snowden to check in on Sans and Papyrus. A few times he went dressed as Santa so they wouldn't know but Sans figured it out. Papyrus was oblivious.
* Dogamy and Dogressa eventually do have their own pup, a female named Doge! (This one isn't entirely Trust Centric).
* As the bros get older Grillby starts to wonder if perhaps he should invest in a larger house. Neither sibling is very eager to leave, and there is a fairly large vacant house just past the Librarby....
* Judging by how hit headed Gnash acts at work and how Brash and Mule-Headed Undyne can be, you'd figure she gets her stubbornness and penchant for stupid ideas from Gnash. As Gnash can attest, her stubbornness actually comes from Frank. He says it would be easier to convince a mountain to fly than convince Frank against something he has set his mind to. Frank says the stupid idea thing is a combo from Gnash and Frank's rebellious kid phase.
* Gnash makes all of Undyne's clothes. For multiple reasons but the main one being that he can weave magic into them so they are a 1000x easier to clean and fix after she's done running a rampage outdoors all day.
* Frank got the idea go hide sweets and stickers in his sleeves from Gnash to use on Undyne. As a baby she refused to cooperate during his physical exams and the normal tricks of giving her a sweet didn't work on her. Gnash gave him the idea of sleight of hand tricks to make it a game (having heard it from a fellow guardsmen about getting their kid to take vitamins). It worked like a charm and Frank always used it during her exam times, eventually adding stickers as well. Other children he treated loved it to so he just kept doing it.
* Frank usually runs his sticker and sweet choices by Undyne before he goes to an exam
* As Sans started to pick up on his tricks, Frank had to up his Game. A lot.
* Sans found the Door to the Ruins before he met Grillby! He managed to pass Snowden since he was to fearful of the monsters there and managed go find the door. He couldn't get it to budge but the noise he made on the door attracted Toriel's attention who had been checking on it and about to leave. When she called out he fled. He went back once later on, well after being adopted by Grillby during a Run with the Dog Unit. He wanted to knock, to see if he really did hear a voice but couldn't muster up the courage just yet.
* After the Core was rebuilt and a new Royal Scientist was named Asgore made sure to regularly check in on their lab in person, along with requesting more insight on their personal and official projects. He has had to replace the Royal Scientist a few times when they refused to answer some questions about their projects to him.
* Bertram never really forgave himself over not properly listening to Alphys. He eventually decided that he HAD to make amends as best he could and out in for an extended vacation to spend some actual quality time with her. They had a great vacation that ended up being over a month long and after that he not only incorporated her into his work more he always made sure to stop and actually listen to her when she brings up her concerns and fears about something, no matter how trivial or outlandish they seemed.
** The above is also why Alphys now has flood lights installed under her bed and in her closet with a 'panic button' that activates and deactivated them with a touch on her bed.
* Alphys lends Sans her science books, and helps tutor him when he gets to the point that he is more advanced than the teachers at his school. Bertram helps from time to time as well.
* Bertram was the one to make the school curriculum for Grillby to use when he homeschooled the boys before they were ready to join public school. Both boys ended up being slightly above average for that first year but evened out into their own strengths and weaknesses the following year.
* Asgore invited Sans, Papyrus, Alphys, and Undyne to tour New Home and some of the surrounding area which ended with the four helping in his garden and being allowed to each take a golden flower home with them. Admittedly the tour had some mishaps (including a hole in the throne that Asgore swears was his doing and certainly not the kids, but the kids won't say otherwise so everyone leaves it at that), but otherwise went smoothly. Alphys's flower only ever had one flower to it but is still alive into her adult years as she followed Asgore's directions to the letter, Undyne's now makes a very beautiful golden chain bloom in Gnash's office (it was later moved to his living room when he retired), Papyrus's decorates the inside of the window's at Grillby's bar, their stalks tall and thin but the blooms large and vibrant. Sans has spread the most actually: he separates new blooms and gives them to his friends and close companions. Each member of the Dog Unit has a flowerpot with the large but short blooming golden flowers, Grillby has a small collection, and the librarby has several as well. Dogamy and Dogressa got an additional pot overflowing and draped with golden flowers Sans grew himself when their child Doge was born.
* the five Blasters were all eventually adopted by various monsters in the underground, except for the eldest 003 (Arial). They only resurfaced years later and it's because Gnash found them nearly at Dusting point in Gaster's fallen lab after hearing reports of strange noises. 003 was given to Asgore and while he did his best Arial still took off once they were strong enough to move again. Asgore does sometimes see them (just for a moment) in the gardens but they teleport out as soon as they see him. Asgore has been considering adding denser plants that something it's size could hide in.

MAYEM: A Different Way Pt. 5
[Previous]
[Archive] [Cast]
Gaster stayed in his bed, and his parents were content to let him stay there as long as he wanted to. They usually tried to not impose on the… ‘territory’ was a pretty apt description for the spaces he carved out for himself.
Semi finished up cooking and moving everything back to the table before looking to see if the elder Gaster were still in the house.
When he could not be found anywhere, he was forced to assume he’d gone to see the grandkids, and went to talk with Chxlxthx instead.
--
After giving himself some time alone to think Gaster got up and went to teleport Sans and Papyrus just outside their home. He instructed them on what the two looked like and how to approach Gaster, as well as what they should and shouldn’t say.
Once that was done with he knocked on the door.
--
He told Chxlxthx who was coming and--while he didn’t tell her what was apparently coming in their future--he did say a little about what he’d been told. About what he’d guessed of how much this Gaster cared for their own. A little about the grandkids.
Hopefully, Gaster would do fine with a house full of people today. While Chxlxthx went to go help him prepare, Semi was left to answer the door when it finally was knocked on.
So he did. And saw his grandchildren for the first--and only--time.
--
One was tall, perhaps even a little taller than Gaster, while the other was short and squat.
“HELLO!” The tall one said with a smile and waved.
“hey.”
Both of them wore rather normal-looking clothes, although each wore a lab coat with an emblem on the sleeve that looked surprisingly similar to Semi’s own skull structure.
“Papyrus.” Gaster said, gesturing to the tall one. “Sans.” He gestured to the short one. “Meet… grandpa.”
--
Oh, wow, he wasn’t sure what he’d expected, but this was so much more.
“Hi,” he said, barely able to restrain his smile enough to stop it paining him. “I’m Semi, it’s--geez, it’s great to meet you! Come on in, please, make yourselves at home!”
--
“THANK YOU.” Papyrus said, stepping inside with his family. He seemed the most excited out of all of them. “I NEVER GOT TO KNOW MY GRANDPARENTS. THIS IS SO FUN!”
Sans and Gaster just sort of settled into a position of letting Papyrus do all the talking. It was what they usually did. “CAN I HUG YOU?”
--
“Yes, definitely!” Semi really liked this kid already. He’d been worried when the older Gaster said ‘no hugs,’ and thought that might apply to him, too!
--
Papyrus wasted no time in holding out his arms and wrapping them around the big dragon, squeezing him with more strength than one would think a bony skeleton could have.
After a moment he paused and looked down at Sans. “SANS. COME HUG OUR GRANDPA.” He reached out, dragging his brother over by his hood and lifting him up to join in the hug.
“okay. hug time i guess.” He smiled and shrugged, going along with the whole thing.
--
Semi laughed at the antics.
He’d forgotten what it was like to watch siblings go at it. Still, he hugged the bigger skeleton back with just as much excitement, even if it didn’t quite match in strength, and gave the smaller skeleton a much more gentle (but no less sincere) hug.
“I really can’t tell you how much it means for you to come by!”
--
“I’M GLAD WE COULD! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE’VE EVER MET OUR GRANDPARENTS.” Papyrus smiled, breaking the hug eventually and letting Sans go.
--
“We’re not that exciting, but I hope we don’t disappoint,” Semi said, still smiling. “The food’s all ready, so I’ll go get Chxlxthx and see if Gaster’s feeling up to sitting with everyone. Again, please, make yourselves at home.”
He waited and moved slowly as he started to exit the room, just in case anyone had more they wanted to ask for or mention before he left.
--
Papyrus nodded and the three settled to patiently wait. The tallest of them had the biggest, happiest grin on his face. Sans was grinning too, but it was hard to tell if that was just what his face did.
Gaster looked… tired. But a little happy too. He was glad his kids got to meet at least one version of their grandparents.
--
They didn’t have to wait long at all. A few minutes later, Semi returned, apologizing for the delay and quickly beginning to dish out the pasta and vegetables and other pieces of the meal. It was a hot, hearty meal, and definitely cooked by someone who had a lot of experience cooking with fire magic, and cooking well.
Not a moment after Semi returned, Chxlxthx arrived, a small, striped-shirted Gaster clinging to a vine behind her.
--
Quite different to the boisterous greeting Semi had gotten, this one was much more subdued. Sans flashed them both a little broader smile while Papyrus waved at them both. He tried to talk a little quieter, but it was still pretty loud.
“HELLO. IT’S NICE TO MEET YOU.”
--
Semi thought for a moment that it was Chxlxthx’s intimidating appearance that made them less excitable--but at the memory of the conversation in the kitchen, wondered if it were his son’s presence, instead.
Chxlxthx got them to the table and settled in easily, giving the little Gaster the option to sit between her and his elder counterpart or in between her and Semi. He gave a quick glance towards his father before moving towards the seat between his mother and counterpart as she spoke.
“It’s nice to meet you too! What’s your names, dear? This is wonderful.”
--
Gaster offered the kid a smile and signed, ‘Feeling okay?’
“I’M PAPYRUS AND THIS IS MY OLDER BROTHER SANS.” He said, gesturing down to the short skeleton beside him. “THANK YOU FOR INVITING US OVER.”
--
Gaster nodded faintly out of habit before answering with his hands. Tired. Lots of people is all.
“Thank you for coming,” she said. “I’m Chxlxthx, this is my Semi. It’s wonderful to meet you!”
She was definitely thrilled.
--
‘Yeah, I know what you mean.’ Gaster signed back, sort of giving the kid a little one-on-one while ignoring the rest of the conversation for the most part. His kids seemed to be… not really ignoring kid Gaster, but rather not pressing him or overwhelming him with attention despite him being a tiny version of their dad.
“YOU HAVE A VERY NICE HOME. VERY COZY. IF ONLY I COULD KEEP OURS SO CLEAN.” Papyrus said, happy to have someone to back and forth with that wasn’t his father or brother, who both seemed to be of few words.
--
...do they like me? He asked, a little hesitantly, and forgetting if his elder had said anything about them understanding Wingdings. He stayed a little hunched over in his seat, glancing around occasionally, and nervous even though he knew no one at the table was actually going to be terrible. His mother offered him a vine under the table, and he clung to it the same way any other monster might hold their mother’s hand for reassurance.
“Thank you! I’m sure your place is wonderful. It sounds like you move around a lot, so it’s understandable things are hard to keep clean.”
Semi had long finished serving food and now was just letting people do as they pleased.
--
‘Yes.’ Gaster signed, ‘I just told them you might need a little space. But you can sign to them if you want.’
“IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF IT WASN’T SUCH A MESS!” Papyrus said, looking annoyed even though his tone was anything but. “THESE TWO ARE AWFUL. PAPERS AND BOOKS AND SOCKS EVERYWHERE.”
“Chaotic organization.” Gaster added.
Papyrus scoffed.
--
“Oh really now,” Chxlxthx said. “It sounds like they’re a handful to look over.”
It was the chiding tone of someone who also had a pair of troublemakers on hand, but loved them anyway.
She was just glad they didn’t really have a sock issue, what with only having one pair of feet to wear them in the whole house.
Gaster nodded and ducked his head, beginning to pick at the meal in front of him and watching the people at the table.
Papyrus was loud and hard to ignore, but he seemed nice enough, and anyone who got along with his mother so quickly was probably a good person. But he was also curious of the quiet, small skeleton.
...it was strange to even think of them as skeletons.
Maybe that’s why he was on edge.
He watched the shorter skeleton, trying to not look like he was nervous or staring, and hoping he succeeded.
--
“THEY ARE. ONE IS SELF-DESTRUCTIVE AND THE OTHER IS LAZY.” Papyrus said as he began to dig into his meal.
Sans caught the kid’s glance but ignored it. He had already started to eat. “this is really good.” He said through a mouthful.
Gaster’s, if he had been given any, would remain untouched.
--
Chxlxthx shook her head and began eating as well. “How would they survive without someone to look after them.”
Semi smiled. “I’m glad you like it. If you like, any leftovers we can send off with you.”
--
“IT’S HARD BEING THE GLUE HOLDING THE FAMILY TOGETHER.” Papyrus said with a proud grin and finally started to eat. He waited until he had swallowed to speak again. “WOWIE, THIS IS VERY GOOD!”
--
Chxlxthx was pleased with the boy’s excellent manners and Semi had definitely started to tinge redder than before, saying another thanks for the compliment.
The smallest Gaster, despite himself, puffed up a little in pride at his father being praised.
--
There was a lull in the conversation for all but a moment, Papyrus glancing over at his father. Gaster looked exhausted even though he wasn’t really. He was just emotionally drained. It was clear for him to see. His dad had plenty of bad days.
“YOU SHOULD TRY IT.” He smiled, “IT’S NICE TO EAT.”
The doctor looked at him, then down at the food. This seemed to be something that happened often. Eating was a normal task that normal people did. It was something to sort of keep him grounded in a way. Even if he didn’t need it or taste it, it was the action that meant something.
With no resistance, Gaster picked up his fork to begin eating.
--
The three at home in this universe watched without comment, focusing a few moments on their own meals while conversation paused.
“So,” Semi said finally. “Grandkids. Wow??”
--
Both Papyrus and Sans looked at him and smiled, Gaster taking a moment to snort as much as he could without a nose.
“weird isn’t it?” Sans said with a smirk.
--
“It is!” Semi said, still a little red. “It’s amazing, but it is… pretty weird. Does this sort of thing happen often to you??”
--
“oh yeah. this is our job. being weird to alternate versions of ourselves.” Sans said before eating more of his meal. It was good. It reminded him of Toriel’s cooking a little.
--
You’re good at it, Gaster mumbled.
“That’s pretty incredible.”
--
Sans grinned at the kid and winked, “thanks.” His attention then turned back to Semi. “it’s actually a lot more boring than it sounds. a lot of sitting and waiting. that’s good for me. i like to do nothing.”
--
Semi looked over at his partner. “See? He gets it.”
Chxlxthx shook her head and returned to the meal while Semi looked back towards Sans. “So traveling through spacetime is pretty boring? Or just boring most of the time?”
(Gaster had hidden his face after the wink and wasn’t sure if he wanted to resurface.)
--
“just boring most of the time.” Sans grinned, “then we get times like this where we get free food.”
--
“Very important perks,” Semi said, offering Sans more food.
--
“thanks.” Sans grinned, eagerly getting right back to eating.
--
Semi was enjoying the meal; it was nice to have a lot of people in the house again, and Gaster seemed to be handling everything pretty well, to boot. He was still eating and, even though he was keeping quiet and had his hands mostly to himself, he didn’t appear overly distressed or try to leave or hide behind Chxlxthx aside from still holding onto one of her many vines.
...he wondered if they might be able to help Gaster get used to more people being around without overwhelming him. Or maybe at least giving him more people to talk to.
“How long will you be around?”
--
“Until the machine is fixed.” Gaster said, then added, “Or until everything here seems okay. Whichever comes last.”
--
Chxlxthx hesitated a moment, but then resumed eating and nodded, planning to ask later.
Gaster, however, had no such compunction. He reached out and tugged his elder double’s ‘sleeve,’ narrowing his eyes up at him and asking, what’s that mean?
--
He looked down at him and signed back, ‘It means that I’m going to stick around until you seem to be doing better. Or until I can maybe alter your timeline a little somehow.’
--
Gaster didn’t look any less suspicious. But what does that mean? When I’m doing better??
Was… was his older self thinking he could decide how well Gaster was doing???
--
Gaster thought about that a bit more before offering a shrug. ‘I dunno. I just wanna leave when you’re a little happier is all. I at least want to make sure you can talk to your parents.’
--
Finally, he relaxed a little, nodding a bit and pulling his hands away from his elder.
His parents had watched quietly, a little startled and definitely worried at the sudden change in Gaster’s activeness. They were still the only people at the table who couldn’t understand even a little of what was being said, and--they were used to not understanding him. But now, more than ever, they felt closed off.
--
Hopefully that would change soon.
“I’ve finished writing everything down, by the way.” Gaster said, turning to the other adults at the table. Technically Sans and Papyrus were adults too, but… nah. They were his kids. “I’ll stick around until you’ve got at least the basics down.”
--
“Thanks,” Semi said, managing a smile again. “I know I’ve said this a lot lately, but… it really does mean a lot.”
He didn’t want to think of how long Gaster would’ve had to struggle with communication if some transdimensional travelers hadn’t come crashing in.
--
“It’s fine.” Gaster smiled a little, having finished his meal. He hadn’t really paid any mind to actually eating it. It was just an empty gesture that Papyrus sometimes had him do. He thought maybe it helped in some way.
--
Chxlxthx cast around and realized most of the table had finished. She looked down to Gaster to make sure he would be alright if she got up, first, before slipping away from the table and starting to carry the dirty dishes to the kitchen.
“....I know your Gaster’s said there’s a place you can stay, but if you want to stay with us, you’re welcome to,” Semi said, looking at the two skeletons.
--
Both Sans and Papyrus looked at their father, who returned their gaze. “... You can if you want.” He shrugged, and both grinned.
“FINALLY A REAL BED!”
--
Semi laughed a bit. “If you’re both done with dinner, I can help you get set up.”
--
“OH, LET ME HELP.” Papyrus said, standing up and gathering the plates from his family.
--
“It’s not necessary, but thank you,” Chxlxthx said, arriving again and offering to take the plates from Papyrus. However, if he wanted to follow her into the kitchen and talk some while she cleaned up, she’d have no objections.
--
Talking with grandma was right up his alley. He helped her clear the rest of the table before following her into the kitchen. Meanwhile Sans stood and looked at Semi. “we don’t have much to ‘set up’, but sure.”
--
In the kitchen, Chxlxthx began putting away leftovers and washing dishes. It was very easy to multitask when you had a minimum of 80 arms. “Papyrus, isn’t it?”
Semi stood as well, saying, “That’s fine! I can at least show you the room,” and ushering Sans away to a small backroom with sheetless twin beds. He opened the closet and began pulling bedding materials out. “Is there anything you’ll need?”
Finally, only the two doubles were left at the table.
Gaster curled in on himself again, less out of anxiety this time and more because it was just a safe position to be in. He pulled his feet up onto the chair and rested his chin on his knees, looking up at the other Gaster, and… tried to figure out exactly how he was feeling about all this.
--
“YES. SHOULD I CALL YOU GRANDMA?” He asked, helping where he could despite the fact she was capable of doing everything herself.
“nah. maybe a blanket for papyrus, but that’s it.” Sans said as he looked at the beds. He didn’t even need to be laying down to sleep and his dad didn’t sleep much at all these days until crashing and burning.
Gaster looked down at his double, ‘Feeling okay?’
--
Chxlxthx was living the dream.
“Yes! That would be wonderful. Grandson.”
She was grinning wider than even normal, if it were possible. A grandson! A--
Yes. She could feel a sad thought creeping up on her and she stomped it out hard with the thought fuck yes, official grandbabies.
“Are you sure?” Semi said, making the beds fully regardless, complete with a quilt to act as a comforter.
Gaster shrugged. Not sure how to feel.
--
“SO WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO?” Papyrus asked.
“yeah i’m sure. we’re used to sleeping with very little.” These days not even Papyrus needed tucked in with a bedtime story.
‘That’s understandable.’ Gaster signed.
--
“Just about everything. When I’m not working or taking care of Gaster, I read and knit. There’s not a lot of spare time, though. What about you, dear?”
Semi nodded understandingly. “All right. Well, just because you can doesn’t mean you have to, so don’t hesitate if you want anything.”
He finished both beds.
Which part’s understandable? Gaster asked, still remembering his suspicions even though he’d been reassured for the most part.
--
“I QUITE LIKE PUZZLES. I BRING A FEW PUZZLE BOOKS WITH ME WHEN WE TRAVEL. COOKING IS FUN TOO.”
“yep. no problem.” Sans nodded.
‘Not knowing how to feel. This isn’t exactly a normal situation to be put through.’ Gaster signed.
--
“Oh, you cook?” Chxlxthx said. “That’s wonderful. I’ve always wanted to learn, but I’m really not any good with fire. I burn everything or only seem to undercook it.”
Semi nodded and glanced back at the door. “...and… I’m sorry to bring this up, especially when we’ve only just met, but… your father mentioned quite a lot of things to me while we were on our own. About my son’s future. And some about his own past and what’s brought you all here. I… it’s hard to know where to start or where I was going with this, sorry.”
What are you going to try to do to my life? Gaster asked. He glanced away from his double. You were talking about changing my timeline.
--
“I’M THE ONLY ONE IN THE FAMILY WHO EVER MADE ANY REASONABLE ATTEMPT.” Papyrus huffed at the thought of his two lazy relatives.
“no, it’s… okay.” Sans said, giving the bedroom door a little nudge closed just in case. “we’re here to help. dad gets pretty adamant about trying to help other versions of himself for… pretty obvious reasons.”
Gaster inhaled through his mouth. ‘I’m not sure. I told your dad a lot. I don’t think your mom wants to know.’
--
“It’s not for everyone, I suppose,” Chxlxthx said. “If you talk to Semi, maybe you two can cook together sometime?”
Semi nodded. “Does this happen a lot? Running into other Gasters. He made their lives sound like… it’s cursed, somehow? He didn’t actually use those words, but… it’s the impression I got.”
It’s my life, though, Gaster said. He struggled, trying to figure out how to express what he wanted to say, and the tightness in his chest, and--he thought he’d been doing really, really well these last few hours, actually talking and holding a conversation and stringing words together with enough meaning that someone understood him. But. But it failed him here, so he just repeated, it’s m i n e, and hoped the point was made.
--
“THAT WOULD BE LOVELY!” Papyrus grinned.
“no. this is only the second time and it’s just the other timeline further into the past.” Sans explained, “most of the time he’s… gone one way or another.”
At mention of a curse he sighed and closed his eyes with a shrug, “maybe. dad doesn’t believe in fate, but… it’s hard not to see it that way.”
Gaster frowned a little but wasn’t quite sure he fully understood. ‘I know.’ He signed, ‘Do you… want me not to medle?’
--
Chxlxthx smiled back. “What about the rest of your famly? Tell me a bit about them?”
Semi… he didn’t like the sound of that at all. “One way or another? So, dead, or…?”
“...my son. You’ve met him before?”
It’s mine, Gaster said again, signs becoming more erratic. You don’t get to decide if it’s good or not, or what to do with it.
--
“SANS IS A LAZY BAG OF BONES WHO TELLS HORRIBLE JOKES AND MY DAD IS AN OBSESSIVE MAD SCIENTIST WHO CURSES WAY TOO MUCH.” Papyrus said, sounding annoyed even though he wasn’t.
“we don’t know. i don’t usually ask.” Sans said, “yeah. older version.”
Gaster looked hurt. He paused, ‘Yeah. You’re right. I’m sorry.’
--
“Surely, there’s some good things to say?” Chxlxthx said, smiling a little still, but trying to coax Papyrus into something a bit more positive.
“...can you tell me about him?” Semi asked. He scratched the horns of his head and looked a bit… not embarrassed, but perhaps a related emotion. “...in case Chxlxthx and I really do die. I’d like to know the kind of man my son grows up to be.”
He didn’t care that the double looked hurt. Nope. No. He didn’t care, he didn’t care, he didn’t care.
He’d hurt plenty of people before, and this one should’ve been no different. Hurt happened. It was his own fault for showing up in Gaster’s life and immediately changing it so much and then trying to take control over it.
So instead, he just kept his face hard and angry, and said, Good.
Be sorry.
--
“THEY ARE BOTH VERY SMART.” Papyrus said without having to think too much about it. “SANS TOOK CARE OF ME WHEN DAD WASN’T AROUND. HE CAN BE VERY HARD-WORKING WHEN HE WANTS TO BE. DAD IS… HE’S NOT A BAD PERSON.” He smiled a little, but looked as though those words were more for convincing himself. “HE’S JUST A LITTLE ROUGH AROUND THE EDGES AND NEEDS A LITTLE EXTRA ATTENTION.”
“he’s a good guy.” Sans said, smiling. “really welcoming, even to strangers. went out of his way to save the alternate versions of me ‘n pap.”
Gaster watched him for a few moments, his expression going from hurt to unreadable. He then sat back in his chair and said nothing, his gaze shifting to look at where his sons had walked off to.
--
Chxlxthx’s expression became solemn as Papyrus finished speaking. “...that sounds like another similarity between our Gasters, then.”
She glanced at the door, making sure it was shut, before asking, “Do you want to talk about it?”
“Are you not his sons in our world?” Semi asked, but smiled anyway. The person being described sounded… completely different from the boy he currently knew. But he knew his kid well enough to recognize the seeds of that personality, he thought. It was good to hear that, despite everything, things sounded like they turned out okay.
Cold, hard fear trickled down Gaster’s spine as his double looked away.
He’d just chased off the only person who’d talk with him.
He’d fucked up. He’d.
He wanted to curl up tight and disappear forever. He wanted to curl tighter into a ball at the table.
...he got up.
And walked, calmly, to his room, keeping his expression stony. Closed the door behind himself. And beat his head against the wall.
--
Papyrus glanced at the door too. “WELL… I’M KIND OF USED TO DEALING WITH IT. SANS HAS HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE TOO. BUT NOW SANS IS MOSTLY BETTER AND I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT DAD. SOME DAYS ARE… KIND OF BAD. WORSE THAN USUAL, I GUESS.” He was still trying to help her around the kitchen as he spoke.
“HE CAN’T SLEEP UNLESS I’M HOLDING ONTO HIS SOUL. HE PRETENDS LIKE NOT FEELING ANYTHING DOESN’T BOTHER HIM, BUT… I KNOW IT DOES. IT BOTHERS HIM THAT HE DOESN’T HAVE HIS OWN BODY ANYMORE.”
“BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THAT. I TRY AND GET HIM TO STILL DO NORMAL THINGS MONSTERS WOULD DO. EAT AND SLEEP AND GO OUTSIDE. BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT ELSE I COULD DO.”
He had found a dishrag, twisting it in his hands as he spoke.
“kinda. about the same as we are. clones. experiments.” Sans shrugged.
Gaster teleported from the table instantly outside his bedroom door and pushed it open.
“Don’t do that.” He said sternly, having heard the thud as soon as the door shut. If earlier in the living room was indication enough, the kid had a habit of hurting himself.
--
Chxlxthx nodded understandingly, and handed him a plate so he could have something to do. He didn’t have to dry it if he got more focused on the talk, but if he needed a distraction, a plate would be a fine sacrifice.
“It sounds like a lot’s happened… is it just you taking care of him, though?” That seemed like… an awful lot of responsibility for a parent to put on their child.
“Oh,” Semi said. “Um. Gee. I guess that’s one way to get more skeletons.”
He was getting really good at accepting the weird things as they came.
Gaster jolted at the sudden intrusion. He whipped around and threw a bone at the invader.
--
Papyrus took the plate and started to dry it. “SANS TRIES TOO, BUT HE’S JUST NOW STARTED TO TAKE CARE OF HIMSELF.”
“HE DIDN’T PUT ANY RESPONSIBILITY ON ME. NOT INTENTIONALLY. I JUST NOTICED THESE THINGS AFTER AWHILE AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HELP. IF DAD HAD HIS WAY HE WOULD HAVE KEPT EVERYTHING HIDDEN FROM US. HE WENT NEARLY A WEEK WITHOUT SLEEPING JUST BECAUSE HE DIDN’T HAVE THE HEART TO ASK US TO HOLD HIM SO HE COULD SLEEP.”
“eh.” Sans smiled and shrugged.
The bone stabbed him through the shoulder but his expression didn’t change. It had stopped him from banging his head, which was what he wanted.
He stood and watched him.
--
Chxlxthx continued nodding, “I see... still, that’s an awful lot of pressure you’re under. Remember you can only do your best to give them a safe place and take care of yourself; it’s up to them to do the rest.”
She reached over to give Papyrus a gentle hug.
With a minimum of 80 limbs, she was an excellent hugger.
“If you’re okay telling me about this, maybe I can offer some suggestions? What we do with our Gaster might be very different, but if you’re really at a loss, it can’t hurt to bounce some ideas or share experiences.”
“Nothing in life is weird anymore, I take it?” Semi said, finding more humor in the nonchalant shrug than was probably intended.
It had stopped him from acting at that moment, but the impulse was still curling tight in his chest and mingling with the anger and small terror of being snuck up on, and he could hardly unclench his hands.
GET OUT, he signed, movements jerking and furious.
--
Papyrus nodded, pouting a little. He accepted the hug with no hesitation.  “YES. I’D LIKE THAT.”
“nah.” Sans let out a small chuckle.
‘Do you really want me to get out?’ Gaster signed calmly.
--
At the complete lack of hesitation in the hug, Chxlxthx only held him tighter, and patted Papyrus’ head a bit. All grandbabies were still babies. Even when they were fully grown adults she’d only met an hour ago. “All right. We’ll do that, then.”
Semi laughed a bit too. “I can only imagine. Today’s already been weird enough for me that I don’t think I’ll be too surprised by anything for a long time.”
He paused sharply, though. “...sorry, do you hear something…?”
LEAVE.
He wasn’t allowed to look that fucking calm when Gaster could barely breathe.
A torrent of bones sprung from the floor, all aimed threateningly at his doppelganger.
--
Sans paused to listen, but couldn’t hear much. Either way something did seem off. “uhh…” He opened the door and looked at Semi.
Gaster still looked calm. His gaze drifted down to the bones threatening him from the floor.
… ‘Okay.’
He stepped out.
--
Semi stepped around Sans to look through the door. “...I’m just going to go check on everyone really quickly, you’re welcome to come…”
His muttering was more habit than thought as he pushed past the small skeleton to begin the search.
As soon as his double stepped out, indigo magic flared around the doorknob and slammed it shut.
The bones changed trajectory. From where his double once stood, to him.
His insides were boiling.
--
Gaster, unaware that his double had turned his magic on himself, turned to look for one of the parents. He pulled the bone from his shoulder and his expression hadn’t changed.
Calm.
Calm hiding a tsunami just under the surface.
After catching sight of Semi from another doorway he gestured to him to come and then towards the door to Gaster’s room.
--
After seeing that gesture towards his son’s room? Semi wasted no time.
He hurried to Gaster’s door and knocked, calling his name twice before announcing he was coming in.
He rushed inside a moment later, the door blocking the view from the hall.
There was a short, sharp sound of agony. And nothing else.
--
The lights in Gaster’s eyes went out. Sans rounded the corner just in time to hear the cry and see his father.
Oh no.
“dad? dad.” Sans mumbled, his steps growing quicker towards him.
But you couldn’t be faster than a teleport. With just one step he was gone. Sans cursed under his breath and hovered outside the door. “is. uh. everything okay in there?”
Dad would survive for awhile on his own.
--
Semi sat on the floor, blocking Gaster from sight, with two long bones sticking out of his side and leg. Others had been impaled in the walls or floor.
It looked someone’d had an extremely one-sided fight and lost, badly.
“F-fine,” Semi said, still grinning despite the twin impailments. “Fine. Sorry. Tell Chxlxthx. She’ll know what to do. Sorry about this. We should’ve been more careful.”
His wings curled down protectively over the little skeleton he was hiding.
--
“oh shit.” Sans wasted no time to spin around and run back to the kitchen, bursting through the door.
“yo, uh, gonna need a little help in the kid’s room. something bad happened.” He pointed a thumb behind him.
Papyrus instantly looked concerned.
--
Chxlxthx wasted no time. She unwound any remaining vines around Papyrus and moved through the doorway and to her son’s room immediately. She didn’t make a sound when she saw what had happened, but kept at a brisk pace, snatching a medical kit from her own bedroom.
It was an afterthought that she turned to their two guests. “It will be fine. Find your father and please try to relax. We have this under control.”
She vanished into Gaster’s room and closed the door.

Hihi~ I know I said I'd drop this by a while back, but I wanted to wait till your ask box was calmer so you wouldn't feel overwhelming 💖 What are your headcanons for the different Gasters, if you don't mind? (Like before, please feel free to take as long as you'd like to answer; it's always worth it!) ~
I was wondering when I'd see this ask in my box. Bless you for waiting for my ask box to calm down. It really helped.
Gaster Headcanons
Undertale
Goop
-Royal scientist as we all know
-holy fucking memes. The memes never stop it seems. Probably Alphys who introduced him to them.
-plays piano, and composed a piece of music for his boys. He taught Classy Bean how to play piano.
-The dad jokes never stop.
-bad habit of forgetting to eat when he works on his experiments
-SCIENCE. The more complex the science, the more interested he is.
-what’s sleep? He forgets to sleep. A lot.
-his sleep schedule is so out of whack oh my god. His internal clock is fucking jacked up.
-adores kids, and kids tend to adore him.
-Dotes on the people he cares for, and made sure he made time for his kids.
-Classy Bean’s love for science comes from him.
-Tale’s love of puzzles is from him.
-Puzzles are wonderful he loves them
-Coffee is his savior okay
-When he isn’t working on something he loves, he’s pretty lazy.
-made a scrapbook of sans and started on one for papyrus before he fell into the core.
-was a great dad until he fell into the core.
-Wasn’t completely erased from existence after falling into the core. Nobody dared speak of him, (it hurt too much) though many forgot him, a few never could. These people include Classy Bean, Toriel, Asgore, and Alphys.
-the void is the worst place ever, but now he’s able to watch his boys grow up and check in on them. Its the best he can to be there for them. He wishes he could do more.
-Classy Bean’s machine isn’t to other multiverses. It’s him trying to make a door to the void so he can have his dad again.
-Always hums the tune he made for Classy Bean and Tale when they go to bed, almost as if he’s singing them a lullaby. Whenever he seems to do this Classy Bean seems to be able to go to sleep that night. He hopes it’s because of him.
-6 ft. tall by default, but he goop now so he can shift to being a bit taller or being much shorter.
-loves dogs. Annoying Dog is an actual dog that fell into the underground. Some animals fall in all the time, and the dog was one of them. Gaster took the dog in as a pet which is why Annoying Dog is around Tale and Classy Bean so much. Annoying Dog though has become the town’s dog.
-Alphys was the one to get him out of the void. She had found a weak spot in the void so he could step out. It was a really dangerous operation and she was trembling with the phone when she called Classy Bean in a panic.
-Classy Bean Shortcuts him and Tale to the lab immediately. He’s still pretty goopy from the void, but Classy Bean runs to him already sobbing.
-Goop is crying too, scooping his boy into his arms. Tale hardly remembers him but he gets pulled into a hug too. Goop lives with his boys now.
Underfell
Grump
 -Super fucking cautious holy shit.
-Red Boy whenever he’d go out to play had this lecture he’d have to go through, a list of everything he’d taught him.
-Ha, he was never alone though. He watched over him, stalking him through town because he was worried.
-He’s the one who installed several thousand locks on the house. The windows have puzzle locks. Ain’t no one crawling through windows.
-He was super strict with Red Boy and Soft Edge, but behind closed doors super affectionate and loving.
-He taught them to stick together. No matter what. They’re family and they are going to be the only ones to trust down in the underground. He was enforcing tight bonds as much as he fucking could.
-Taught Red Boy piano and how to sew.
-Made all of Red Boy’s and Soft Edge’s clothes by hand.
-Taught Red Boy some science along with Soft Edge. Soft Edge vaguely remembers it.
-When he went out with his boys he would pick them up and carry them. No excuses. He couldn’t let them trail behind. Sure killing children was frowned upon but it didn’t really stop monsters from doing it. The harsh punishment didn’t always get carried out when they couldn’t find the culprit unfortunately.
-Was friends with Jerkby, who was a bit older than Red Boy. Probably about three years. Jerkby didn’t have parents, they were dusted after all, and he’d allow Jerkby to stay in the shed (Jerkby refused to step inside a stranger’s house). When they grew closer where Jerkby trusted him more he let him stay in the house.
-When he disappeared into the core they were all still relatively young. Jerkby got rougher, and meaner. Red Boy is the only reason he kept any bit of kindness that he had beforehand.
-He was violent in the void. He hadn’t ever killed anyone really just beated them to near death before leaving them alone. So he’d never been outright violent. The void made him beyond angry though.
-When the barrier breaks, the void wavers enough from the pulse to let him out, and he immediately tracks down his boys.
-Red Boy almost threw a bone attack at him until he realized it was possibly his dad.
-Soft Edge doesn’t buy it, but the uncanny resemblance to his hazy memory is too much for him to deny. He is the one who demands to hear the his story.
-Red Boy quizzes him on things only he would know and he passes with flying colors. As soon as he does Red Boy is LAUNCHING HIMSELF AT HIS FATHER.
-Red Boy cries for the first time in a long time, and honestly he can’t blame him. He’s holding back tears himself.
-He’s so proud of his boys and who they’ve become. He’s proud of Red Boy for not trusting him immediately. It meant he did his job to keep him safe in the underground. He’s proud of Soft Edge for achieving his goals. So what they’re rough around the edges? They’re alive.
-They live together on the surface.
-He’s 8 ft tall. He likes to tease Red Boy for ending up short.
-The surface??? Is so different??? He’s baffled.
-There’s cute shit and edgy shit. How the fuck is he supposed to choose between these things. He’s serious.
-Very indecisive when choosing shit. Like he likes both the cute things and edgy things. Though he leans toward edgy more, it’s hard for him to deny anything cute.
-He’s all about adapting to new living situations, so he’s proactively trying to improve.
-Literally makes notes on a notepad so he doesn’t forget what’s acceptable and what isn’t.
-Watches some TV to figure out some basic interactions. Red Boy and Soft Edge also help him learn.
-he’s still a little rougher around the edges than his boys though. It’s surprisingly difficult for him to wrap his head around a peaceful environment.
-He argued with his boys on how many locks they needed for the door. They went with 3. The windows have 1 basic lock much to his irritation.
-oh my god he hates country and the pop genres. He thinks their bullshit and the grate on his nerves.
-his aura is terrifying and so he’s very difficult to approach.
-He fucking loves cats. He wants 20 of them. Soft Edge constantly tells him no. “WHY THE FUCK NOT?”
-Okay he knows he’s supposed to love the sky and the surface but could the sun shut the fuck up??? Just??? Turn down the brightness.
-He discovers quickly that he isn’t a morning person. Mornings are awful and whenever someone greets him with good morning he stares them dead in the eye looking utterly exhausted as he says, “There are no good mornings.”
-Please get him coffee. He is dying. No he’s not being dramatic get him fucking coffee. (he’s being a dramatic lil shit)
Underswap
Oddball
-He’s not the riverperson. He’s still the royal scientist. But it seems as though he has more of Riverperson’s personality.
-Ya know Goop? And his dad jokes? Increase ten fold.
-Speaks in riddles it sounds like, but he’s just talking I swear.
-Look at his boys!!! His boys are good. He’s kind of,,, a weird dad. A parent figure who doesn’t know shit about raising a child let alone two.
-When Honey Bear showed interest and an advanced understanding in science and other things he instantly jumps on this chance to teach him.
-He’s a semi decent teacher. Some of the material went over Honey Bear’s head which frustrated him. He’d try to explain only making it worse. Honey Bear had random clicks of when it suddenly occurred to him what he was talking about and he’d become very angry at his past self because it was so easy.
-A chaotic neutral kind of person.
-what a fucking brat holy hell. Shit eating grins are his signature smile.
-He loves to go around and calling random things cursed for no apparent reason.
-enjoys the looks of horror and confusion from people when he does something odd again.
-When he disappeared everyone was confused. No one knew what happened to him except the King and Queen along with Honey Bear and Sassberry.
-He’d only been able to teach Sassberry some music theory, and Honey Bear sewing. He was very disappointed.
-spent his time in the void listing what he was gonna teach his sons. It kept him from going insane.
-During a reset, he was spit out of the void like a spitting bullet when they arrived to the surface. He keeps a close eye on Chara to make sure they don’t reset. Who knows what’ll happen if they did, he’s finally out and he refuses to go back to the void. Chara is semi terrified of him and making him made so they refuse to reset. Even went to the point of breaking the reset button. This makes things a million times better between the two.
-The day he disappeared he had asked Honey Bear a riddle. “How is a raven like a writing desk?”
-Honey Bear tackled him to the ground he was so happy to see him, and the first thing he says to him, “I’ve been thinking about it for what feels like 50 years of how a raven is like a writing desk and I need to know. How?” He shrugs and gives him a shit eating grin. “How would I know I’ve been in the void for 50 years.” Honey Bear is screaming.
-He lives with his sons after that still though.
-He is a mess to live with. He leaves shit everywhere and he has to ask constantly where he put something down.
-Sweet tooth. He visits Sweetby’s cafe often and has become good friends with him.
-doesn’t make puns but he thoroughly enjoys hearing Honey Bear make them.
-He’s 5’4. Taller than one son, shorter than the other. He’s fine with this.
-he’s very poor at reading a room. He says such weird shit that people generally have a hard time understanding him, but when he gets weird awkward stares is when he figures out he needs to probably shut up and pay attention to what the fuck is going on.
-He wants to teach people things.
-loves to learn and he grabs too many fucking books at once to learn something.
-Seems to oddly? Be a genius at languages and he quickly learns French, German, and Russian.
-makes random noises because he feels like it while he does things. Sometimes it’s just random humming other times it’s squawking.
-kind of has hipster tastes but just cause he likes really weird shit.
-loves spicy food that feels like you’re standing on the surface of the sun.
Swapfell
Worrywort
 -Paranoia and anxiety bean
-also the royal scientist.
-He double checks his work about a hundred times before doing anything.
-He’s the epitome of internal screaming, but is calm on the outside.
-A fondness for riddles. He doesn’t indulge them often because it pisses off a lot of monsters.
-taught his boys how to hide and keep out of trouble. He also taught them ambush attacks, and other guerilla tactics. It was in case they ever got in a fight. Hit and run tactics would keep them alive.
-Is an amazing at strategy for combat surprisingly. He learned about it because of how the underground became so vicious.
-he has a billion locks on the doors. Windows have iron bars he welded on them. They’re wide enough for hands to reach through and open the window but that’s it.
-Was a very stressed bean with his work as the royal scientist. He brought his boys to the lab constantly just so he could relax enough to work.
-Undyne worked with him closely, and ended up becoming friends with Rus. Undyne ended up being a close family friend.
-Voice of reason. Please don’t do the thing. That thing is bad. How does he know? It’s literally written on the thing.
-When they started working on the core, he started writing notes for the boys. They were full of advice, and reminding them he loved them very much. He made them in case something bad happened because of how dangerous the project was.
-HE TOLD UNDYNE THE CORE NEEDED TO HAVE RAILS.
-He fell in during a check on the process of putting up rails.
-Undyne kept an eye on Rus and Scaryberry for him, but could only do so much since she was the new royal scientist. She kept them afloat for as long as they needed. He appreciated this deeply. He noticed she took care of them financially for as long as she could.
-he blames himself for Scaryberry’s anxiety and Rus’s extreme levels of stress. That was… his bad. He must have looked rather frantic to the kids which couldn’t have been very good for them.
-He spent a lot of time crying in the void. At least they had his letters to look to for guidance even if it didn’t cover all of their problems.
-He experimented with the void and managed to cause a reset that spit him out of the void. He doesn’t understand what happened but he accepts this bullshit.
-He finds the fallen child immediately and explains what he did, and apologizes. He begs for them to do another pacifist route, one last time. Chara wanted to live on the surface with everyone and agreed. With his help after breaking the barrier, he helped them break the reset button. It scared Chara but, he reassured them it was the right thing to do.
-7 ft tall. He’s on the taller side for monsters.
-His reunion with his boys is full of tears for everyone. Scaryberry is crying. He always wanted to know his dad and he has the chance to do that now.
-He lives with his sons because he missed too many years with them.
-He takes turns cooking with Rus, but Rus is much better than him at cooking.
-He’s okay at cleaning. He doesn’t clean up often though and will tag team a room with Scaryberry.
-He’s got insomnia, and so he struggles with sleep. He passes out on the couch often and when he wakes up he gets a bit startled before he remembers he’s on the surface and not the void.
-When the boys leave the house he’s always making sure they have everything they need. It’s important to him that they have a way to contact him.
-He listens to music a lot to relax. It helps to a degree.
-Reads to Scaryberry a lot because he didn’t get to do that a lot and Scaryberry still wants to have that sort of childhood experience.
Horrortale
Eerie
-Scratched and clawed his way out of the Void.
-His body ended up being very torn up because of this, and he lost a limb. Specifically his arm.
-Do not ask about the Void. He’d rather not talk about it and suffers PTSD from everything he witnessed. He barely escaped with his sanity.
-His humor is morbid, and self deprecating.
-low self esteem from the void. Lets just say he wasn’t exactly… alone.
-He has a rather unsettling vibe, but so do most monsters from this AU. It’s not that he’s bad, its just that… you can feel he’s seen some shit.
-Loves his boys. He couldn’t confront them right away when he crawled out of the void because he was barely keeping himself together. Not only that he was not prepared for a brawl.
-not a fighter. I’m serious. You will kick his ass. You can be terrible and still win.
-pacifist
-Loves his boys! He’s so proud of them, and they’re so brave for everything they did.
-Axe was upset about him not coming to them as soon as possible until he heard about the condition he came from the void to the underground. Now he’s just happy he has dad back at all. He could’ve been eaten so easily… It scares him.
-Scared of the dark. Requires a nightlight or some form of dim light.
-He heard one superstition and then proceeded to look up others. He now treads very lightly.
-He starts to study mythology. He loves the stories and learning what Humans believed in the time they were underground. It seems they weren’t the only ones who suffered great ordeals.
-Not a goop dad. The Void was the reason for the Goop like appearance, and he was painfully and barely holding himself together.
-believes in the paranormal. He’s seen shit that he will never elude to that makes him believe. He’s not a fool. Is everything paranormal? No, why the fuck would it be?
-After some time of getting to know his boys more, they let him move in. He’s thrilled with this.
-Rate of success for cooking is debatable. Sometimes he just shrugs and says, “It’s a fire day today I guess.”
-he’s 5’6. The Void made him shrink a bit, and was originally 6’ tall.
-excitable. He’s not loud like Sugarskull, but he’s very eager to do things and talk with people.
-He understands monsters had done what they had to do to survive. He ends up learning about how some humans have been known to cannibalize without lack of food, so he likes to shoot that back at those who judge him. He also lists any other instances of cannibalism humans have shown if people continue their rants.
-He knows how to argue/debate. It’s an important skill to him. If he makes a mistake he’s reasonable and backs down.
-Actually pretty good with people. He’s generally well liked.
-Surprisingly functional, but there are days… Those days that pull him down in the void again and he can’t escape. He’s not grounded and they sneak up on him randomly.
-Nightmare every night, but he doesn’t remember. He wakes up smiling, but with a slight feeling of terror that he tends to brush off. He’s fine nothing happened as far as he’s aware.
-Constantly reminds himself he is safe. He’s with his boys. Everythings okay. They’re on the surface.
-Randomly stomps his feet on the ground to prove to himself that it is indeed real, and that he is indeed solid. He needs the reminder.
-not a fan of Undyne. He knows what she’s done, and her decisions as a queen were foolish in his opinion.

A few days after Gaster’s return came and went in an odd combination of peace and uncertainty. Everything about them was calm, but at the same time no one knew what the next step to take was. Gen had called off training to spend time with him, and Glass didn’t have anywhere to call in so of course he was there as well. Gaster himself was quiet, a near shadow that wandered between rooms. It was the first time they had everyone under the same roof together in ages, yet conversation was lacking. It was their father, as quiet as he usually was, who finally broke the fine layer of tension that had begun to settle by inquiring how they should go about explaining his disappearance. It wasn’t like Dings could stay in the house forever. They decided to leave any mention of the void out of their explanation about Gaster’s disappearance. Gen would go out spreading the news of Dings’s return and would say that after the accident Gaster suffered amnesia- which wasn’t really a lie- and in his altered state, had wandered to Waterfall where he stayed hidden for years- that was a lie. He didn’t seemed too bothered by having to twist the tale a bit. He seemed more excited than anything else in fact, saying it would be the beginning of Gaster’s “return to his social life!”
From the initial telling of their story, word would get around and people would fill in any gaps with their own fables. That was one of the wonders of living in a gossip starved community; monsters loved to invent their own news. Now that they had started, Gen insisted there were other things that needed addressing. Such as their living space. Their house had never been big, but it had been enough for Glass and Gen. With an additional family member however, their two bedroom cabin had never felt smaller. For now, Gaster was staying in the couch, but that couldn't be a permanent solution. Gen was adamant about that. It was decided that it was best they moved. Hotland was the area Gaster had lived in the longest after monsters had spread out from Old Home. Gen hoped the familiar area would jog some of their father’s memories, and Dings was optimistic. Glass liked to think it would help too, but he couldn’t shake the feeling going back would change things in ways none of them expected. That was the future, go figure right? Any apprehension he had put aside, Glass was near set. He’d say one or two goodbyes, definitely have a chat with the lady in the Ruins before going, but that was all he had on his to-do list. He had nothing else holding him. Most of the tying up of loose ends was going to be Gen’s job. Maybe that's where his reservations stemmed from in the first place.
And since today was full of addressing issues… “What are you going to do about the guard?” “Hmm?” Gen looked up. Glass made a useless gesture in the air. “You can't keep training in Hotland can you? All the available guard positions are out here in the boonies.” “You’re right, I’ll have to tell Undyne that I’m resigning at our next training session.” “What, just like that?” Glass asked. “Come on bro, joining the royal guard has been your goal since coming here. Even as a kid you looked up to them.” “My dream was bing capable of protecting everyone yes, but I can do that anywhere in more than one way. I will adjust! “I’m sorry…” For a moment the brothers had forgotten their father was still in the room. He hadn’t uttered a word in a while and they jumped at the sound. Gen gave a confused smile. “I don’t understand why you are apologizing?” Gaster was looking down at his lap. “I didn’t want to make you upset.” “Why does everyone think I am upset? Do I look upset? I’m fine! This move will be good for us all! If you blame yourself for something that we should be celebrating, then I will be upset!” “But this was important to you?” “Yes,” he admitted, “but there are plenty more things that are important to me.” Gen smiled “Like family!” And with that the subject was dropped. Gen wouldn’t hear another word against it, genuinely insisting that the three of them should do something to celebrate.
Well, whatever they did, Glass couldn't say he was that sorry to go. He was sorry this was uprooting his brother again, but Gen didn’t seem sad, and Gaster was eager to find something familiar he could latch onto. If his bro was happy, and Dings was happy, then he would be too, regardless of their residence. He wouldn’t miss this place. Sure it had it’s moments and acquired pleasures. There was the lady behind the door, the woods, the lack of people. All were good things he’d regret leaving once he was actually gone, but as for the general nothing that was this town, Glass had never found himself deeply attached. The next day Glass found Gaster curled up on the couch, a bunch of half packed boxes and piles of things around him. Gen must have assigned him a job to keep his hands busy, but Gaster wasn’t packing anything at the moment. He had his full attention on a framed photo in his hands Glass pushed a box out of the way and sat down next to him. “Hey Dings, what’d you find?” He started a bit and looked up smiling. Instead of answering, he turned it around and presented the picture to Glass. It was an old one, so old Glass had forgotten they still had it. It was him as a kid, couldn’t have been older than five. He was in Gaster’s lap, reaching up towards his face and not even trying to pose for the camera.
Ding’s face was how he remembered it, marginally less cracked and broken and his eye lights a steady glow. The arm that Gaster wasn’t holding Glass with was wrapped around the shoulders of another skeleton. She was a bit shorter than Dings, but stood in a way that made up for every inch. In a way, she almost appeared to be standing taller.
A look of mirth on her face softened any firmness it may have held as she tried to encourage kid Glass to look at the camera. Ironically, not even she was looking at the lense. It had been an accidental shot, the angle was crooked, and the taker’s thumb could be seen at the edge, but Glass remembered Dings had gotten a frame for it anyway. To Glass it felt like he was looking at a relic. “Wow you found that. Heh, it’s been awhile since I saw that one.” “That is me and you, but where is Papyrus?” “He wasn’t born yet.” Glass’s eyelights jumped between Gaster and the photo. “How much do you remember about mom?” “Ah, not much…” “You don’t remember her name do you?” Gaster’s following silence said enough. “It was Alegreya. Heh. I can’t believe you can remember bits about your coworkers, but you completely forgot the love of your life’s name.” “Glass.” He snapped. He raised his hands. “Hey, what happened in the void wasn’t exactly in your control.” Glass looked away. “Besides, sometimes I thought you wanted to forget her anyway.” The way Gaster stared at him made it impossible for him not to elaborate. “Sheesh, don’t give me that look… it’s just that you never talked about her after she passed. You left most of the describing to me when Gen started asking about her, and all I had to remember her by were the first six years of my life.”
He looked down at the picture again. “Heh, she would have been pissed at us for forgetting about her.” “You didn’t forget.” Gaster replied. “And I don’t think I would have wanted to either. Not her. If I did, then I was a fool.” “Well, you were, but you were also a genius. Kind of balanced itself out in its own way.” “That… is not very comforting in this context.” He ran a finger along the frame. “Skies... I want to be able to look at my life and have it make sense. Glass, I didn’t even recognize your mother.” His shoulders hunched inwards more as he stared at the photo. “I must have known her for years... decades, but I didn’t remember. “I want to remember… More than just her. I-I have gone so long without my memories and now I don’t even know who I am anymore… Do I even act like the man who raised you?” “Hey.” This was the most Gaster had said about his memory, let alone in one sitting. He’d known it had been bad, but he didn’t know the extent of his memory wipe. He still didn’t. It was a lot for a guy to go through, it was a lot for him to just listen to. Glass put a hand on his shoulder, it was soft and almost malleable. “You’re different Dings, but you’re still you. Uh, you know, you still do that thing with your hands when you're nervous, you’re still a night owl, and you still drink your coffee with two creams and no sugar. Things are different, but you’re still you.” Gaster looked like he was trying to be reassured, but wasn’t quite managing it. Still, he nodded.
“Will you help me remember her?” His voice sounded even more like a croak than usual. “That's why we’re moving across the Underground Dings. Me and Gen’ll always be there to help you.” That seemed to make him too choked up for words. ‘Thank you.’ He signed. A moment of silence passed. Glass almost thought Dings was going to cry, wouldn’t be the weirdest or least expected thing Gaster has done since coming back, and honestly, he looked like he needed it. Well, while that was fine, sometimes there were better ways to get your emotion out besides crying about them. “Hey.” Glass took the photo from Gaster’s limp hand. He slid the picture out of the frame and went into the kitchen, getting a pen. He return immediately so Gaster could see what he was doing with it. Plopping back down on the couch next to him, Glass used his knee and wrought ‘don’t forget’ across the bottom in careful letters before handing it back to him. “Here. It’ll be a reminder for the both of us.” They’ll never forget mom again, neither of them. Gaster took it with gentle fingers as if the paper would crumble to ash if he weren’t careful. “Thank you.” He murmured. “I would like a picture of Gen too.” Well, this was something he could do. “We got a lot to pick from.” He said standing. Gaster followed suit only after Glass said. “Come on they’re all upstairs.” There were a lot of boxes up in Glass’s room, more than needed to hold his own possesions. That was because a good portion of them weren’t even his. The ones stacked behind the door weren’t at least. Well, soon enough they’d have a new home, and Gaster would choose it. He patted one of the boxes on top. “These are yours.”
‘Mine?’ He signed, too startled to speak. “You kept my things in your room?” “Uh, yeah. Gen would go through your stuff sometimes, but neither of us knew where else to put them so they just ended up staying in here. Not a lot of room in the house you know.” Glass picked a box off the pile and set it aside with a huff. “All the family pictures, some of your cloths and lab coats, your ID, old notes, and some of the things you were tinkering with are in these.” Gaster watched, a hand materializing to trace the curling tape on one of the boxes. “You kept all of it?” “Most of it.” Glass amended as he moved aside another box. “Gen didn’t want to leave your stuff behind, but we couldn’t pack everything with us when we moved. We settled on taking the things we thought were most important to you.” Gen had done most of the decision making. He’d been too busy lying in a corner of self pity and guilt to be much help for anything. Glass finally found the box he was looking for and picked it up. Set it on his bed, not minding if some of the dust got on the sheets. After tearing the tape off he dug in its contents and handed a thick book to Gaster. “That one’s mostly filled with baby pictures of Gen… and this one’s mine. You sure liked taking a lot of pictures Dings.” “And I have never been more grateful I did before in my entire life.” He said as he took a seat on the bed and began thumbing through the book. Glass smiled. “Yeah I bet.”

Baby Spinach, chapter 9
Summary: Why are secret lairs always in the last place you expect?
Wordcount: 3349
They swing by the facility for Gaster's research, which was too extensive to be packed with the rest of his things.  “You're out awful late,” says the dog on guard duty.  Most of the Royal Guard seems to be made of dogs.
“I'm having a hard time sleeping,” Gaster replies shakily.
“That's right, you're usually at home by this time.”  The guard hands back Gaster's badge with a sympathetic look. “We'll find them, doctor.  There's nothing the Royal Guard hates more than lost puppies.”
Gaster heroically does not point out that he's in the middle of finding Sans and Papyrus on his own.  “Wait,” he says as the guard begins to turn around, “Could you tell me about the case? Has there been any progress?”
The guard cocks his head to one side.  “Didn't you see Lieutenant Donahue just this evening?”
“I-I did, but I was hoping there had been a development since then...?”
He gives what Gaster suspects is meant to be a supportive smile, but falls slightly short due to the tongue still sticking out the corner of his mouth.  “If there are any changes, we'll let you know,” the Guard says, laying a gentle paw on Gaster's shoulder.
Gaster pats the paw a few times, thanks the guard, and stiffly crosses the bridge into the main entrance hall.
Several steps past the main reception desk (manned only by a stack of information pamphlets due to the late hour), Imposter Donahue falls into step next to him. He's now wearing the official Royal Guard uniform, though Gaster would be hard pressed to guess where he got one. “Nice job distracting the dog.”
“I don't care for subterfuge,” Gaster says sharply.  He makes a point of telling the truth and staying out of trouble because he is not good at it.
“Then don't think of it that way,” Not-Donahue says with a grin, “Think of it as the first step towards out collaboration, and believe me, doctor, you'll find what comes next to be worth the difficulties.”
The take the side corridors to Gaster's office.  He painfully notes that these are the same routes he used to take with the children.  While the lab is open all hours to accommodate its employee's variety of schedules, few people work this late; the halls are quiet aside from the florescent lights and humming climate control system.
His office is at one end of the supervisor's wing.  They collect Gaster's research, then head back into the hallway. “Where are we going,” Gaster asks as he relocks the door.
“Patience,” the imposter says, “We'll get there soon.”
“It would help if I had some idea of our destination.”
“I don't see how that's relevent to anyth—”
“Well, hello there Lieutenant,” says someone  Gaster's metaphorical circulatory system begins to run cold. He turns; the well-meaning intern is standing at the other end of the hall, where he has no idea what kind of complications he's just .
“Donahue,” he corrects faintly.
“And Doctor Gaster, good evening!  I thought you'd already gone home for the evening.”
Not-Donahue cocks an eyebrow in Gaster's direction.  The expression reads take care of this, or I will.
“I, ah. Forgot some things,” he says, gesturing to the notebooks and binders in his arms.
The intern eyes the stack.  “Planning to work from home for a while?”  He asks with a sympathetic tone.
Despite the situation, Gaster notes that he can now recognize sympathy in many different forms.  Later, he'll pat himself on the back for the sharpening of his social observational skills; now, he scrambles for some kind of explanation as to why he's leaving the facility with classified information that will also give Not-Donahue a reason to keep from speaking.  “It's a more comfortable environment,” he says desperately.  The weight of his papers keeps his hands from shaking too badly, but they're still rattling quietly against the binders.
“Do you want help carrying those?”  The intern asks.
“No,” Gaster blurts out, “Ah, no thank you.  I think the Lieutenant and I have it covered.”
Not-Donahue seems amused by the Gaster's fumbling.  He takes half the stack, balancing it on one hand like a serving tray, and gives a thumbs-up with his free hand.
“Apparently you do,” the intern says with a smile, “Well, I'll let you get on with your work.”
Gaster heaves a sigh of relief.
“Oh wait, one more thing.  Lieutenant, your niece was looking for—”
“Donnie?”
Gaster slowly turns to look down the other end of the hall.  Silohouetted dramatically in the light from the perpendicular hallway is a young, aquatic girl with blue skin and red hair.  She's wearing a dirty t-shirt and overalls, and bears enough resemblance with Donahue to suggest a familial tie.
The girl grins widely, revealing extremely familiar teeth.
“H-hello,” Gaster says in a shaky voice, “What's your—”
The girl launches herself down the hallway.  It's faster than he can react, but Gaster still see the actions in slow motion: the girl darting past him towards the imposter, those enormous sharp teeth unhinging.  Not-Donahue takes as step back as he realizes what's about to happen, but is still too late to stop Donahue's niece from leaping into the air and clamping down on his arm.
He yells in pain and surprise, and starts flailing in an attempt to dislodge the girl's teeth from his skin.  The force makes he let go, and she tumbles backwards across the floor as the imposter tosses Gaster's research to the side and slaps a hand over the wound.
The binders he was holding crash to the ground.  The intern looks confused.  Donahue's niece blinks up at him from the floor.  Her eyes narrow.
“You don't sound like Donnie,” she says.
The imposter grabs Gaster's wrist and sprints down the hallway, sending Gaster's own stack of papers clattering behind them.  He leaps over the girl and careens around the corner, taking Gaster with him as they veer sharply across the tiles.  “Idiot,” he yells as they barrel down the hallway.
“What?” Gaster shouts back.
“Why didn't you do something?
“What could I have possibly done?!”
“Something!  Anything!  Do you realize what's happened?”  They take two right turns, then run past a series of meeting rooms.  “That brat is going to tell her aunt that someone who looked exactly like her was walking around with you.”  They dash past an intersection, then do a swerving u-turn and run back to it.  The man is still holding Gaster's arm tightly; Donahue's niece managed to bite down on the outside of his forearm, puncturing the cloth the holds the armor pieces together.  Blood is already seeping through the resulting holes in the fabric.  “She's going to put that together with whatever you told her about our meeting two days ago, Gaster.  The jig is up.”
“We have a head start,” Gaster says, trailing after the imposter as he navigates the facility, “We can still work together—”
“Of course we can,” the imposter snarls, “But this wasn't the plan.”
Gaster has no idea what the plan could be, but it apparently involved skidding to a stop in front of the dangerous materials laboratory.  To his astonishment, the man produces a key card with a high enough security clearance to get them inside; he locks the door after them and, still firmly gripping Gaster's arm, marches them past the determination experiments to some disused equipment in the back corner of the room.
“She really got me,” he hisses, pressing down on the wound with the other hand. “Help me move this.”
They wrestle the old equipment out of the way, leaving a clear space on the floor. The imposter begins counting tiles in some kind of pattern, stopping in front of one that looks no different from the others.  He knocks on it.  Apparently satisfied with whatever he hears, he brings his foot down on one side of the tile.
With a sound like heavy stone grinding against heavier stone, the other side of the tile flips up, revealing a long, dark tunnel leading under the floor of the lab. A ladder is mounted against one wall. The imposter looks up at Gaster and grins.
“Please,” he says, gesturing into the hole, “After you.”
-
Gaster has seen the blueprints for the Royal Science Laboratories, and he's certain this tunnel leading down into the earth should not be here.  Yet here he is, descending a ladder into the depths of the facility with a man who murdered a human child and then proceeded to chip off two piece of his own soul to make more children.  Gaster firmly shoves these ideas to the side and continues downward.
The bottom of the ladder connects with a dark green floor.  The room is narrow but long, and the opposite wall is occupied by several large standing closets.  A door with an ominous looking lock is carved into the far size.
The imposter skips the last rung of the ladder and lands on the tile.  “Sorry for the delay, I had to cover our tracks.”
Gaster doesn't know how he did this from inside the tunnel, but nods as though he understands.
Not-Donahue sheds the Royal Guard armor and places it in one of the cabinets.  On closer inspection, each one is is filled to the brim with outfits: Gaster spots the Royal Laboratories' official labcoat, several sets of training gear, a suit, and a number of other clothes he can't identify because they're crammed together into a mess of fabric.  The imposter pulls a plain labcoat and a large shirt from the fray.  At the same time, he appears to be decreasing in mass; Donahue's vibrant read hair disappears, replaced with two reptilian crests that run along his head.  The aquatic coloring fades into pale green scales, and a set of hair-thin spines appear down the sides of his neck.  The final form seems to be some kind of lizard, only an inch shorter than Gaster himself.
The imposter pulls on the shirt, which sits on his frame like a tunic.  “I debated about whether or not to let you see my form,” he says, shrugging on the labcoat, “But then I remembered that you wouldn't dare compromise my boys by revealing the information.”
The threat hangs heavily between them.  The imposter grins.  He has many small, triangular teeth.
Gaster clears his throat awkwardly.  He learned to produce the noise for situations exactly like this. “Well.”
The man continues to grin as he extracts several keys from his pockets.
He flicks on a light switch.  Ceiling lights flicker a few times before they buzz to life, filling the space with dim light.
The room they reveal is, undoubtable, a laboratory.
There are several movable lab benches arranged into a row, each with its own lamp to make up for the inadequate overhead lights. Papers and tools are scattered messily across the tables, in some cases spilling over the edge to form piles on the floor.  Several hallways connect this room to what must be the rest of the base; some have doors, some of those doors have locks.  Bookcases crammed with materials are placed wherever there’s space, creating a furniture maze through the room.  At the center of the maze, which is off to one side of the room, is an open space dominated by a large ominous cylinder.  It’s surrounded with monitoring equipment that looks like a large electrocardiograph, but the cylinder itself is covered with a thick drop cloth.  Gaster can see a faint blue glow leaking under the edges.
He feels faintly ill.
“Welcome to my workspace,” the man says, gesturing to the setup.  “I would have neatened things if there was more time.”
“It’s lovely,” Gaster lies.
“Thank you!  It’s the result of ten years of forced isolation.”
“How did you even find this place?  Let alone gain access to it?”
The imposter looks affronted.  Gaster is fairly certain this is an exaggerated expression.  “Why doctor, I’m surprised!  Don’t you remember the young professor who had an office across the hall from your ten years ago?”
Gaster comes up with a vague memory.  “The one who stole containment equipment before the added security measures were put into place?”
The man grins widely a second time.
“You needed the containment units for this,” Gaster says as the pieces come together, “You already had the soul.”
“This day has been a long time coming,” he replies, clasping his hands together.  “A few more short years and we’ll see to it that the barrier is destroyed for good.”
Something makes a noise.  Gaster tears his eyes from what’s probably a human soul to see two small eyes peering at him around a shelf.  He sprints around the bookcase to find a second, smaller area between the furniture.  A familiar playpen sits in the center, and next to two small pillows is Papyrus. He’s wearing the same red onesie as the day he disappeared, but otherwise seems no worse for wear.  “I was so worried,” Gaster murmurs, scooping him into his arms.
Papyrus looks up at him, then over his shoulder to his father, then back to Gaster.  He looks increasingly confused and upset, and begins to pat his own face in reassurance.
“Shh, it’s alright,” Gaster soothes, gently bouncing the baby in his arms, “I’ve got you.”
The imposter clears his throat.  “I apologize for borrowing your child containment space, but I’m sure you understand that I need it more than you do right now.”
“Of course,” Gaster says without commitment. “May I ask where Sans is?”
“He’s grounded,” the man says, waving a hand as if this is of no consequence, “Until he learns to handle his responisibilities in ways other than running away with his brother.”
“Of course,” Gaster says with even less commitment.
Another moment passes before he speaks again. “Well, as I was saying, welcome to my home.  This is the main laboratory, where you and I will conduct research the human soul specimen.”
“It’s… very functional,” Gaster says, holding Papyrus close as he continues to pat his own face.
“Thank you kindly, doctor.  Ah, where are my manners?  May I offer you something to drink before we get started?”
“Yes, thank you,” Gaster replies, jumping on the opportunity to see more of the base.  He follows the man down one corridor and into a room that serves as a fantastic example of how not to clean a kitchen: the counters are covered in food stains and leftovers, the sink is stacked high with dishes, and there are garbage bags piled up in the corner.  If he had a nose, Gaster is sure it would be unhappy.
“Please excuse the mess,” the man says absently, setting the water on the table and holding his arms out for Papyrus.
“Why don’t I put Papyrus down for a nap, so we can discuss the details of your work,” Gaster says, holding Papyrus tight to his chest.  “We don’t need a toddler getting underfoot for that.  I assume he has a designated sleeping area?”
After a moment of thought, the imposter agrees. The nursery turns out to be one of the closed doors branching off from the main room; the man unlocks it and Gaster steps into what seems like an empty room.  There’s an off-white carpet, a crib, and one shelf with a few books; otherwise, the room is completely barren.
“This is certainly one type of nursery,” Gaster says to himself.
Luckily, the crib has a mattress and blankets.  He reluctantly tucks Papyrus in with a whispered promise to come back for him later.
Papyrus refuses to let go of Gaster’s coat.
“I know, I know,” Gaster says, tugging at Papyrus’ tiny hands, “But I have to find your brother before I can get you out of here.”
Papyrus whines as Gaster pries his fingers open.
“Shh,” he comforts.  He arranges the blankets into a circle and tucks Papyrus in at the center. “I’ll be back soon.”
Gaster left home to pursue a career in science, leaving his family and familial obligations behind.  He’s participated in strategic war planning that involved dozens of human deaths, and he’s watched corporeal friends and colleagues wither from old age.  But none of these are as difficult as walking away from Papyrus as he whimpers to himself in an empty room.

Several hours listening to the man’s explanations later, Gaster manages to convince him that, as the guest, Gaster should be the one to make dinner this evening, and that even though he may be barred from leaving his room (apparently for any reason, including food up until this point), a merciful father would be willing to grant Sans his supper.
As such, Gaster manages to cobble together some sandwiches from stale bread and old condiments.  Sans’ room turns out to be another branching off the main room. Unsurprisingly, the door is locked and requires several keys to open.  After some more cajoling, he manages to get the keys from the imposter and eases the door open with his elbow.
The room shows only slightly more forethought than Papyrus’ nursery in that it has a desk in addition to shelves and a bed. The shelves are filled with books, varying in subject from children’s literature to high-level scientific explanations.  There don’t seem to be any intermediary texts.  Sans is sitting on the bed, reading a book.  He looks up when the door opens and freezes when he sees Gaster standing there.
He’s also wearing the same clothes he disappeared in, but where Papyrus seems to have suffered no further injuries, Sans has a medical pad taped over one eye socket.
“Hi,” he says cautiously.
Gaster takes a breath to calm the emotions ricocheting in his chest.  “Hello, Sans,” Gaster replies, “Are you alright?”
Sans froms with what looks like distrust.  “How are you doing that?”
“Doing what?”
“Changing your voice.  You sound like the other guy.”
The man in the next room can change his shape at will, of course Sans wouldn’t trust him at first.  “First, though I don’t expect you believe me at this time, I am not your father.  Second, I object to you calling me ‘the other guy’, but I see your point.  What happened to your eye?”
Sans shrugs and doesn’t answer.  He’s clearly taken up Gaster’s invitation to not believe him.
They watch each other.
“I brought sandwiches,” Gaster says, holding up the tray. “I made sandwiches.”
Sans’ one visible eye narrows.
“This one is for you.  It’s mostly ketchup.”
“You could just ask me to get up,” Sans grumbles, marking the page in his book and setting it aside.
“What?”  Sans refusing to eat dinner until he was certain the food wasn’t drugged— “Oh!  No, that isn’t what I meant at all,” Gaster says quickly, setting the tray on the bed, “What was it what was it— ah!  Point to any part of the sandwich, that’s right!”
Sans stares at him.  Slowly, without breaking eye contact, he extends an arm and touches the exact middle of the bread.
Gaster has to tear the sandwich in half to get at the middle, but manages to eat the indicated section.  The real struggle is getting past the knowledge he’s eating ketchup, but for Sans, he’ll do it.
“Dings?”  Sans asks faintly.
Gaster wipes a smear of hellish tomato from the corner of his mouth and gives a thumbs up.
Sans reaches out to touch Gaster’s arm.  When it doesn’t disappear under his hand, his visible eye wells up with tears.
Gaster opens his arms in invitation.  “May I offer— oof.”
Sans collides with Gaster’s torso and grabs on with both hands.  “Dad didn’t catch you, did he?”
“No,” Gaster replies, holding Sans tight to his chest, “I came with him to find you. I’m going to get you out of here.”
“There’s no way out,” Sans says from where he’s pressed his face to Gaster’s sweater.
“There is, and I will find it.  I will get us out,” Gaster promises.
