Miraculous fanart: Beebug/Queenbug/Queenlady Date + Miraculous rewriting: Chloenette AU (Season 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Chloenette AU is updated.
Prologue
Season 1
Time for the rewriting !
The Story and its changes:
Season 2:
The Collector:
Marinette meets Master Fu and Wayzz. The old man reveals he is the last Guardian of the Miracle Box.
Marinette presents the Grimoire to Fu who recognizes the book. She lies to him about the finding of the book (like in the original story). She can't imagine Adrien can be Hawkmoth.
Adrien is grounded at home by his father for the lost of the book.
In this AU, when Marinette comes to school, it's Chloé who calls her about Adrien's groundment. Nino and Alya reveal to the bluenette the grimoire was Adrien's dad's property. So Marinette suspects Gabriel Agreste to be Hawkmoth.
The story and the battle happen in the same way as in canon. The Collector is desakumatized. Marinette brings back the grimoire to the manor. Adrien cimes back to Françoise Dupont school.
This is eventually confirmed Gabriel is in fact Hawkmoth.
Prime Queen:
Marinette requests Alya for babysitting Manon because she must go to the TVi Studio as Ladybug. There is the interview with Nadja Chamack in the Face to Face show. Cat Noir is invited too.
During the interview, Chloé appears in the show by videocall. In this AU, the conversation could be:
Nadja: Hello caller. State your name and your question.
Chloé: Err, seriously Nadja? Surely, no one would be the first caller but me. I'm only the perfect match for Ladybug.
Nadja: Oh yes, of course. Hello there, Chloé Bourgeois. Daughter of the mayor of Paris...
Chloé: And don't forget my daddy is the manager of the Grand Paris, the best luxury hotel in the entire city.
Nadja: Err, thank you for reminding us. What is your question, Chloé ?
Oh, I don't have a question. I just wanted to say hi, since as you all know, we're such very good friends: Ladybug, Cat Noir and I !
Ladybug and Cat Noir blush when Chloé claims to be the perfect match. But Ladybug is a bit of uncomfortable because of that.
Meanwhile, this info gratifies Gabriel (a.k.a. Hawkmoth) who watches the interview. He is more satisfied than he is when Ladybug said her and Cat Noir must keep their identities secret. He remembers the Antibug incident (still in the AU).
The TV reveals the photos implying "romantic" moments between Ladybug and Cat Noir. The red black-spotted superheroin angrily leaves the broadcast grabbing Cat Noir until the exit.
Nadia is akumatized into Prime Queen. The battle happens identically to canon. But there is a lot of changes.
The scoop Prime Queen wants to hear the love life of Ladybug and Cat Noir
The rules for my show are simple, admit the truth live on TV that you're dating and in love and I'll stop the train ! Oh ! And unless Chloé is the "perfect match" with one of you two !
Chloé being Chloé: She openly teases Prime Queen.
Do you want a scoop ? I am the perfect girlfriend for Ladybug. Even for everyone. Everyone loves me. 😏
When Ladybug and Cat Noir fall trapped in the freezer of the kitchen of the Grand Paris Hotel, Prime Queen holds Alya AND Chloé as hostages (The akumatized supervillainess had retaken the blondie girl from the subway train in the same moment). Imprisoned in the same sarcophagus, the rich girl and the ladyblogger are cramped inside.
Tumblr media
Hawkmoth ordered her to take the blondie brat as prisoner for forcing Ladybug and Cat Noir to give up their miraculous (Volpina vibes). The two heroes (the two Chloé's childhood friends) are panicked.
Meanwhile, Ladybug and Cat Noir manage to reverse the issue of the battle (same way as in canon: Lucky Charm, trick and Miraculous Ladybug !).
After the battle, Marinette joins Alya and Manon for recomforting her and she calls Chloé for the same reason.
Chloé will respond to Marinette Adrien has already expressed his worries about her hostage previous situation. She even sends a text to the bluenette:
I love you two so much. 😘 But I love Ladybug more. 😋🥰
Damn ! Marinette would like to live her romance with Adrien but Chloé openly expresses to be in love with Ladybug.
That's too hot for Mari. There is a conversation between her and Tikki:
Marinette: Someone must say to Chloé she must stop to say she loves me... Uh... Ladybug. Didn't she learned anything after the Vanisher and Antibug incidents ?Tikki: There aren't another choice, Marinette. You must convince her to shut up. Her actions and her behavior cause dôme trouble in your mission to find and stop Hawkmoth.Marinette: Yeah. But I don't have to hurt her feelings. I swear I will reveal who I really am in another day.Tikki: Promise, Marinette. It's necessary to keep your identity secret for protecting your loved ones.Marinette: I swear.
On TVi, the Face to Face show isn't cancelled after the incident. And Nadja invites Alya for this new airing episode (like in canon).
Glaciator:
Same story than in canon but with some changes.
Chloé appears in this story.
Adrien learns piano séance at home. He can't exit from the major today but Cat Noir.
The blondie girl (accompanied of Sabrina) joins the group (Nino, Alya, Ivan, Mylène and Marinette) to see André the Sweetheart matchmaker. The rich brat order him an ice cream for sharing it with Ladybug. But André backfires her because "Ladybug and Cat Noir are the perfect match".
Pissed off, Chloé threats the Ice Cream seller of closing his business by calling her Daddy the mayor and she mocks the Ice Cream Man's love principes before leaving the scene.
That shocks André. This blackmailing causes the akumatization of the latter into Glaciator. His akumatization happens more early than in canon. And now, he seeks revenge against Chloé.
Marinette briefly berates Chloé for her harmful behavior before fleeing the zone and transforming into Ladybug.
Cat Noir was just preparing the decoration for his date with Ladybug (he had previously invited her) when he sees Glaciator causing chaos in Paris.
Ladybug and Cat Noir stand up together against Glaciator. The first heroin tells to Cat Noir what is happened.
Cat Noir (thinking): It's supposed a good day for offering a date with my Lady until Chloé... another Akuma messes up. Let's clean up the things and I will talk about our date night later.
There aren't any issues about Ladybug's absence in the date spot.
They eventually defeat him in same way as in canon.
After the battle, Cat Noir recalls Ladybug about the date night and the location. The superheroin eventually comes to the rendezvous and she tells to his Chaton she has a crush on another boy (without saying his name: Adrien). Meanwhile, she wants to be just friends with Cat Noir as an exceptional partner. The Catboy accepts her choice. Same thing with Chloé the so-called perfect match: The two heroes agree.
Cat Noir offers his flower to Ladybug with a kiss on the cheek in same way as in canon. Their relationship is platonic.
About Chloé, she eventually "apologizes" to the Ice Cream seller for her behavior. The next day, Marinette and Chloé agree to come together to see André the Ice Cream Man (not the mayor).
The latter offers to the two girls an Ice Cream with perfume of: Honey🟡, Cranberry🔵, Strawberry🔴 and Chocolate⚫. 🍨
Despair Bear:
The story begins at Françoise Dupont when Tom Dupain learns to the Marinette's class how to bake macarons. But Chloé thinks the learning is boring. So she secretly calls the fire department. That causing the fire alarm activation forcing all the classes to evacuate.
Like in canon, Mr Damoclès punishes the entire school to cleaning up the place. All the students except Chloé.
The canon divergence comes: Chloé (who is a semi-bully) attempted to preserve both Marinette, Adrien from the sanction but the two latters openly declare they prefer clean up with their classmates instead of benefit that.
Adrien even gaslights Chloé about her actions and her attitude. He requires her to become kind. By waiting that, he breaks up their friendship.
Unsatisfied and saddened about Adrien ending their friendship, Chloé decides to "change". With the guidance of her butler Armand Jean-???, she organisates a party at the Grand Hotel.
When Chloé sends invitations to the teens from Françoise Dupont, she don't express any disgust but joy about inviting Marinette (the latter isn't surprised about receiving one invitation from her odd childhood friend).
Meanwhile, she feels uncomfortable because of her butler exhibiting her teddy bear Mr. Cuddly in front of her.
At the Grand Paris Hotel, when Chloé comes to greet the guests (under the guidance of the butler and Mr. Cuddly), the scene with Marinette happens a bit of differently: They kiss each others cheeks like consensual people (Because they were familiar in this AU).
At the same scene, before the mutual kissing, the two concerned girls have a conversation by murmuring. Their discret conversation:
Chloé: Hey, Dupain-Cheng. What do you think about my party Marinette: You just try to send the fire alarm thing into the oblivion with this party, right ? Chloé: Ridiculous ! I'm sure you meet some things that can be boring and you will want to mess theses up. Marinette: You meet me only for make me be like you ?! Chloé: No. No. You're just interesting too much for me. I see in you a kind of girl who is able to practice the power on others. Marinette: You confessed me "you loved me" during these last years just because I should have any form of "power" ? Chloé: You must understand what we can do with any power, Dupain-Cheng. You must thank me for letting you become the class representative. I could guide you. Marinette: And I could guide you if you seek to change. Chloé (briefly watching her butler and Mr. Cuddly): Someone already cares about my... guidance. Do you kiss me or we will stay frozen until the night ? Hurry up. Marinette: Kiss... You ?!Chloé: Only in the cheek but make it fast.
The moments when Chloé acts as nice (still under the guidance of the butler) towards guests happen like in canon.
When Nino comes on stage for playing DJ music, Chloé wants to dance with Adrien but she is hesitant with Marinette. Sabrina (instead of Kim) requests Chloé for dance. The latter reluctantly accepts (under the pression guidance of Jean Mr. Cuddly).
Marinette and Adrien dance together.
Frustated she can't dance neither with Adrien nor with Marinette and nor with Ladybug, Chloé wants to interupt it all. But the butler stands up with Mr. Cuddly.
That's enough for Chloé Bourgeois who snaps out in anger. She fires his butler who is eventually akumatized into Despair Bear. Hawkmoth waited this too long.
The battle happens in same way as in canon. The two heroes deakumatize the butler with the help of Chloé. She rehires him.
In the final scene, Chloé makes efforts to be kind again by inviting Marinette's dad for finish the interupted lesson from Françoise Dupont school. Her friendship with Adrien is saved.
She takes the time to judge everyone's macarons with correctness. She even eats one of Marinette's macarons with pleasure: Delicious ! Utterly delicious ! ❤
Riposte:
In the original episode, Chloé doesn't appear. But in this AU, she comes to Françoise Dupont school accompanied of Sabrina. The two girls join Marinette because the latter participates to Armand D'Argencourt's fencing with Adrien.
When Marinette and Adrien fence together. Chloé claims Adrien has the high ground while Sabrina claims the top for Marinette.
Kagami appears on the court and challenges Adrien for integrate the D'Argencourt fencing school. The duel happens like in canon.
The divergence: Marinette and Chloé are the only ones who ses the end of the end. When D'Argencourt asks "Who hit first ?" Marinette hesitates. While she was going to name Adrien as the winner, Chloé cuts the bakery girl's line by directly calling Adrien as the winner.
Kagami is akumatized into Riposte. The battle happens like in canon
But Chloé joins Ladybug for the fight. The only times when Chloé is useful in the melee are these moments: when she tries to hide Adrien and later when she distracts Riposte by provoking lines (that doesn't impress the akuma).
Same way as in canon, Riposte is defeated and deakumatized.
After the battle, Adrien joins Kagami to return her sword back. The two reconcile each other. Kagami accepts a second duel for a near future.
Marinette (who is detransformed after the battle) discretly listen the conversation.
In this AU, when Adrien says to Kagami Marinette is just a friend, the bakery girl is pleased. Meanwhile, she confesses to Tikki she prefers to be more friends with Adrien than Adrien said.
Later, Ladybug sees Chloé for request her to cease to intervene in akuma battles. She occasionaly sees her after each akuma battle since the Antibug incident.
Ladybug: Chloé. You must stop to put yourself in danger when an akumatized supervillain is on the run. It's for your sake. ☝😠
Chloé: Thank you, Ladybug. But, it's ridiculous. 😅 I'm sure you need me for catching Hawk Moth. And now, my proof of my support. ❤
Chloé kisses Ladybug on the cheek in every superheroin's visit and takes selfies with the relunctant superheroin.
Tumblr media
La Befana:
Marinette celebrates her birthday. Tikki offers to her a kwagatama.
In same time, Marinette and her parents receivethe visit from Gina, her grandmother at the bakery. The latter takes her in motorcycle for visiting Parisian places that are too more childish for the bluenette.
The story for this AU is identical to the canon. Marinette leaves her grandmother for the surprise party. But the old woman believes Marinette don't want to spend time with her anymore (finding out th candies Marinette didn't have eaten). So Hawkmoth akumatizes Gina into la Befana.
Befana pertubates the party for turning Marinette into coal but the latter's friends stand up.
Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat the akumatized supervillainess and deakumatize her.
Marinette expresses her apologizes to grandma and invites her to join the party. The latter accepte and she understands her granddaughter is no longer a little child.
Adrien offers to Marinette a customized bracelet (similar to Marinette's bracelet from the episode Gamer).
Meanwhile, a girl lurking in the shadows is watching the party (especially Marinette and Adrien talking together) from the window of her bedroom: It's Lila.
The difference with the canon story is Chloé appears at the party (because she's among Marinette's friends in this AU even she has sometimes issues with the bakery girl). Sabrina too.
When Befana assaults the party, Chloé has been turned into coal statue among others coal statues while Sabrina is turned into an angel. These brats turns back to normal thanks to the Lucky Charm.
The gift Chloé offers to Marinette is a golden statuette with the form of a bee. (Coincidence?) 🐝
Frightningale:
The story happens like in canon.
Clara Nightingale holds auditions for a music video honoring Ladybug and Cat Noir at the Grand Palais.
Marinette joins her friends for the auditions. She just wants to be close to Adrien (who us worried about playing Cat Noir).
Meanwhile, Tikki requests her to keep her identity secret. That's why, after running to help the singer who tripped over the ground, the bluenette declines the Clara's offer of playing Ladybug for stay an extra with her friends after the singer has fallen and.
But a full Ladybug-cosplayed Chloé comes to make her interesting. She comes on stage to be with her Adri-Cat. Marinette changes her mind.
For this rewritten version of the story, Marinette tempers her words to Chloé by saying that:
Marinette: By showing yourself with your dances and acrobaties, you're impressive. Chloé (blushing and elated): Oh thank you Dupain-Cheng. You recognize my superior talents. Marinette: You put yourself in danger because you look like m... the real Ladybug. There may be an akumatized or possibly Hawkmoth who can believe you as our heroin. I warn you. Chloé (giggling and teasing): Do you say thar just because you are utterly jealous, the bakery gi... ?
Clara suddenly interferes in the girls' discussion.
Clara: Marinette has said like a true superheroin would have said. I was right to think you're the perfect one. About playing the Ladybug you're the worthy one. Chloé (irritated): I am more worthy one than everyone. the onlyperfectone to date Ladybug my beloved one. Me, the number one.
So Marinette is selected as the Ladybug for the video. Meanwhile, she realizes her cosplay looks like her magic outfit too well. Chloé has good reasons to say to her:
"Who looks more like Ladybug ? Huh... Who puts herself in danger by publicly pretending as Ladybug ?"
About Chloé, she later calls her Daddy the mayor of Paris for cancel the auditions. Clara is akumatized into Frightningale.
The battle eventually happens like in canon. Chloé is turned into "pink plastic?" statue ("Again ?!", the AU said. Read La Befana above ↑).
Ladybug and Cat Noir save the day by deakumatizing Clara.
After the battle, Ladybug offers HER idea to Clara about producing her music video: To invite the civilians to dance on-screen in different places of Paris and to wear their ladybug-and-cat-themed masks in same time.
What makes it different from the canon is Ladybug invites Chloé to participate in the new version of the music video. The latter only accepts it for impress Ladybug and "apologizes" Clara.
The music video Miraculous is finally aired.
Robostus:
Same story as in canon. Meanwhile, in this AU, Chloé's speaking lines are different:
Chloé: Puh-lease! Your "friend" is just a talking calculator! There's nothing "evolved" about that ! Marinette (to Markov): Don't listen to her, Markov. That girl is just a little hard of particular when she says everything she thinks. Chloé: I can say all the words describing you all as losers if I want to do it.
Markov is akumatized into Robostus. The battle happens in same way as in canon.
Robostus wants to make the wish of become a human with the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses (because of the fact Hawkmoth had previously explained "them" the Miraculous Absolute Power processus during the akumatization). So He could hang out with Max.
Robostus betrays Hawkmoth by hacking his high security system (made by Tsurugi Industries) activating the missiles and weapons. That distracts the evil Butterfly man ans that prevents him to remove Robostus' superpowers.
Ladybug and Cat Noir find out their Miraculouses can grant a wish during the battle. They deakumatize Markov with the help of Max.
After the battle, Marinette better learns about the Ultimate Miraculous Absolute Power thanks to Master Fu: The wish requires an exchange (If Robustus becomes human, one random human becomes a robot/machine).
Zombizou:
This is Caline Bustier's birthday: Each student from the Miraclass have a gift to offer to their teacher.
The gift Marinette wants to give to Miss Bustier is a cosmetics bag including a lipstick. The gift has been made by Marinette and it contains the message:
"If we wish to change the world, we must all learn to love each other."
Chloé is eventually the only one who hasn't any gift to give to Miss Bustier.
Because of their childhood friends in this AU, Marinette encourages/requests Chloé to make an action of kindness.
Marinette: Nothing. Unless you still have a little present to offer for miss Bustier like you offered me this statuette in my birthday. (Read La Befana above ↑) Chloé: Don't treat me like that, Dupain-Cheng. I am not a child you can babysit. Sabrina: Calm down, gals. (-to the class-) We can't blame Chloé for no liking birthdays. Her mom is just a... Chloé: Yeah, well, you don't have to tell 'em my life story, either. I see none of interesting about compliments and love. Marinette: Haven't you any heart, Chloé ? Chloé: Uh, of course I have a heart! Daddy will even buy me a second one, if I want.
The Miraclass goes to class for Physical Science. But Chloé and Sabrina stay in locker room. The rich girl thinks about what the bakery girl previously told to her. For provide she can give something for a birthday, she decides to bring her "personal touch" on the Marinette's gift. Next, she return to class with Sabrina.
In classroom, the students bring their gifts to Miss Bustier.
Marinette finds out her gift has been vandalized ! She berates Chloé. The Miraclass isn't even surprised about Chloé's "crime".
In the original story, Alix tells almost half of the city of Paris got akumatized because of Chloé's actions. In this AU, it was just one quarter of Parisians who got akumatized (Chloé is a semi-bully).
Miss Bustier prefers to forgive Chloé. That annoys Marinette.
The situation interests Hawkmoth too much. He sends an akuma to the school.
Miss Bustier is finally akumatized into Zombizou. And the events are happening in the same way as in canon.
When all Parisians are zombizoufied. Ladybug and Chloé are the only remained non-infected ones. At thé Eiffel Tower, Chloé remorsefully admits to be responsible of this akuma incident.
Chloé: I'm sorry ! Ladybug: What ? Chloé: This is all my fault ! I just tried to impress Miss Bustier ans everyone but I realize I made something wrong. And now, I am disappointing you. Ladybug (a bit of fascinated): Chloé...
The blondie girl saves Ladybug by standing up against a zombizoufied Cat Noir who kisses the former.
Chloé: Save us all ! And say to Miss Bustier and the bakery girl Dupain-Cheng I am sorry for all !
Ladybug eventually defeats Zombizou, deakumatizes Miss Bustier and reverses the damages.
Like in canon, Chloé apologizes to Miss Bustier for wasting her birthday.
In the final scene from the classroom, when Alya gaslights Chloé about her behavior and shenanigans. Chloé maintains her pride.
Chloé: I apologize. But only if you and the rest of the class thank me for saving everybody. 😋 Alya: That's it. As if we're going to believe you. 😑
But Marinette takes Chloé's defense. That surprises Alya and the test of the class. The discussion:
Marinette: (to Alya) Don't be too hard with Chloé. She has been a hero today. (to Chloé) I heard you helped Ladybug and saved Miss Bustier ! Awesome ! There really is a heart beating in there after all. I hope you can help others like that. 😊 Chloé (confused, blushing): Uh... Thank you Dupain-Cheng. Oh. I'm sorry I "decorated" the gift without warning you.
And Chloé brings a golden bracelet as gift on Miss Bustier's desk. But in this AU, she exposes this object to everybody before putting it on the desk. Alya admits towards Marinette there can have a good side on Chloé anyways.
Captain Hardrock:
Today is the National Music Festival in Paris.
The story is the same as in canon.
Marinette meets Luka. She feels an interest on him.
But the bluenette is confused between Adrien and Luka (even Alya notices the "compass" thing to her).
Anarka, Luka's and Juleka's mother, is akumatized into Captain Hardrock.
Ladybug and Cat Noir are both helped by Nino, Alya, Mylène and the Kitty Section (Ivan, Rose, Juleka and Luka) for vainquish Captain Hardrock and finally to deakumatize Anarka.
Chloé doesn't appear but Alya mentions the blondie girl when she talks about the "love compass" with Marinette.
Is the compass going crazy ? If Chloé was here, her own compass should be going crazy too.
Crazy about Adrikins ? Dupain-Cheng ? Ladybug ? Luka ? I let you imagine.
Sapotis+Anansi:
Same stories as in canon.
Ella and Etta, the Alya's younger twin sisters, are both akumatized into two creatures called Sapotis. By cloning themselves, they cause big troubles in Paris.
Ladybug offers the Fox Miraculous to Alya for defeating Ella and Etta, her young twin siblings turned into Sapotis. The Ladyblogger, who meets Trixx, becomes Rena Rouge. The two heroes save the day night.
Nora, Alya's older sister, is akumatized into Anansi and she takes Alya as hostage at the Arc-De-Triomphe. Cat Noir is trapped in the spiderweb during the battle.
Ladybug gives the Turtle Miraculous to Nino for saving and protecting Alya better. Nino who meets Wayzz, becomes Carapace. Nora is eventually deakumatized, Alya is saved and Paris is repaired with the Miraculous Ladybug power.
I add the Chloé's POV about the two new superheroes:
"They are utterly ridiculous if we compare them with Ladybug and Cat Noir her sidekick. I can be a better superheroin than these two newbies."
Queen's Battle/Style Queen+Queen Wasp:
Tumblr media
There are major changes for this (pair of) episode(s).
The Fashion Week is happening.
Audrey, the world's harshest fashion critic and Chloé's mother, comes to the event.
In this AU, Marinette is already aware about Audrey's profession. Chloé talked about her mom to Marinette during the previous years when the two girls were hanging out each other. (see Prologue)
Like in canon, Marinette is still nervous about having her hat get misjudged by Audrey (from "Mr. Pigeon").
Gabriel causes Audrey's akumatization in Style Queen.
Style Queen takes Adrien (turned into a golden statue) as hostage (at the horror of Gabriel/Hawkmoth) and Chloé as "sidekick" bringing them at the Eiffel Tower.
Ladybug fights alone against Style Queen and retreats.
In this AU, Ladybug saves Chloé from her akumatized mom. Once safe, the superheroin requests her lovesick fangirl to stay away from the akuma incident for her latter's safety. Chloé relunctantly accepts to follow her request (for now).
Marinette sees Master Fu in his massage shop. She finds out Cat Noir is unavailable (by watching and meeting Plagg on place). She invites the Kwami and takes the Bee Miraculous for finding a helpful holder.
Chloé, who stayed hidden for a few minutes, loses patience:
"Ridiculous ! I'm sure you need ME to deakumatize my mom, Ladydumb !"
She decides to run to the Eiffel Tower for confronting Style Queen.
Ladybug finds Alya at place. She is going to bring her the Bee Miraculous but the akumatized villainess ambushes them and transforms Alya into a golden statue.
At the same moment, Chloé was desperately climbing the stairs ("Why is the elevator inactive ?!"). She finds a recently-fallen-from-the-sky hexagonal box on the next stairs. She opens the box and a kwami suddenly appears in front of her (that causing her screaming). Pollen elegantly greets a surprised and confused Chloé: "Hello, my queen."
At the next upstairs, Ladybug is submerged by Style Queen's attacks (even the Lucky Charm hasn't been useless like in canon).
In the moment when Plagg shows up for activate his Cataclysm against the villainess, an unknown masked teenage girl with a bee-themed outfit appears in the sight of Ladybug from behind the enemy.
The unexpected guest fastly paralyzes Style Queen with the Venom. Ladybug realizes her mysterious savior has the Bee Miraculous.
Plagg destroys the magic force field and Ladybug can destroy the akumatized object. Style Queen's damages are reversed. Adrien and Alya are freed from the spell.
While Alya finally gets to the floor from the battle, Ladybug speaks with the new superheroin:
Chloé/The anonymous superheroin: I think that's a pleasure to me about stand with you, Ladybug. Ladybug: Thank you for the help. But... Who are you ? Anonymous superheroin: You can rely on me for supporting you, my Lady. I am Queen Bee. And now, you owe me. ❤
The bipping sounds can be heard from the Ladybug earrings and Bee hair comb.
Queen Bee (with a bit of seductive tond): I understand you want to fly away now, my Lady. -giggles- But that's the same for me. Bye ! 😘 Ladybug: Hey ! Wait !
Queen Bee blows a kiss at Ladybug before suddenly leaving the Eiffel Tower.
After the Style Queen incident, Ladybug bring back Adrien to the Fashion Week.
Gabriel (who is remorseful for endangering his son twice (Watch Gorizilla and Style Queen)) makes hisnpublic entrance at thé Fashion Week.
Marinette faces the Audrey's rating of her hat and... The latter appreciates it !
Audrey offers to Marinette to follow her to New York for learning the path of the fashion designer to her. That infuriates Chloé who calls out Audrey:
Chloé: It's... It's ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous ! I've never been to New York with you and you’re taking Marinette Dupain-Cheng ! Audrey: I'm taking her because she's exceptional Claudette. Uh— Chloé. Chloé: I'm exceptional, too ! Audrey: The only exceptional thing about you, my dear… is your mother. Chloé (exploding of ): How do you dare ? You have never paid attention to me since you were gone to New York and you come back only to say that to me ?! Pollen !
Pollen appears from the yellow jacket.
"Pollen, Buzz on !"
Tumblr media
Everyone is shocked (especially Marinette/Ladybug who is the most shocked to see Queen Bee, her secret savior who recently helped her against Style Queen, is in fact Chloé). Everyone except Audrey who doesn't care about.
In this AU, the Subway Train incident never happens. Instead of this thing, Chloé Queen Bee commits an intrusion at the TV broadcast. On camera. On live.
Both Marinette and Adrien watch the Queen Bee's disruption appearance on TV while they go home each other.
In TVi Studio, Queen Bee holds a "speech" on broadcast:
"I am Queen Bee. Your new superhero. I put Paris under MY protection. I have a message to Ladybug: "I feel we will good besties in love and we will work together." And to Hawkmoth: "The time has come for you to be ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous !"
Later, Gabriel talks with Nooroo (who us shocked to see his master becoming Hawkmoth again):
I still have one chance, Nooroo. All is not lost. I have a unique opportunity to akumatize someone with a Miraculous. A loved one in Ladybug: Chloé Bourgeois. A superhero-turned-supervillain can only be… exceptional ! 😈
At the same moment, Ladybug and Cat Noir come to TVi Studio for take back the Bee Miraculous to Chloé.
They ask to Queen Bee to give the Bee Miraculous but she objects. When she flees away, she paralyzes Alec for distract the two heroes.
A saddened Queen Bee takes refuge at the Grand Hotel and mourns about her day she is actually living. She falls in her thoughts.
"Today, I am become an exceptional superheroin and Ladybug disapproves that ? I saved her. Mom still doesn't like me. I have even roasted Hawkmoth into Ridiculous but Ladybug rejects that ? What's wrong with me ? No ! What's wrong with her ? What's wrong with the world ?!"
Hawkmoth contacts Queen Bee. The conversation:
Hawkmoth: Queen Wasp, I am Hawk Moth. Queen Bee: How do you dare, Hawkmoth ? I don't want to breath the same as you. Hawkmoth Ladybug and Cat Noir don't want you as their friend nor their partner, so you will be their most powerful enemy. Queen Bee: Why would I take your offer ? Hawkmoth: Because you're exceptional. We can take revenge against Ladybug and Cat Noir by seizing their Miraculouses. Queen Bee/Queen Wasp: You can count on me, Hawk Moth. I'll teach them to respect me.
Queen Bee is akumatized Queen Wasp. Ladybug and Cat Noir come to the Grand Hotel. They confront the new akumatized superheroin-turned-villainess.
The battle unfolds identically like in the original story but there are slight differences.
Ladybug tries to reason Chloé/Queen Bee to counter the Hawkmoth's influence (that because Chloé already did it in Antibug (See Season 1)).
Ladybug: You didn't need to be like that, Chlo... Queen Bee. Have you forgotten the time when you were Antibug and when you rejected the akuma ? I already said you were an exceptional friend. Queen Wasp: Don't say it, Ladybug ! 😡 I only remember you're nothing but a jealous loser. Utterly jealous of me ! I just wanted to help you but you still treat me like a ridiculous ! It's too late. I'll crush you, Ladydumb ! 💀
Ladybug and Cat Noir are retreating. The red black-spotted superheroin summons the Lucky Charm like in canon. The two heroes immobilize Queen Wasp.
In this AU, Ladybug and Cat Noir don't destroy the honey comb (containing the akuma) yet. The two heroes bring Queen Wasp from the Seine to a hidden place. Ladybug makes an ultimate speech to a tied and muffled Queen Wasp Queen Bee Chloé:
Chloé... Huh... Queen Bee. I fully understand what do you want. You confessed me you love me. You wanted to side with me. Today, you accomplished it all as Queen Bee for impressing me, Paris and your mom. So I committed a mistake. I must say that to you: "Thank you for helping me, Queen Bee. You're exceptional. I'm your biggest fan and you can say everything to me." So trust me !
Thanks to Ladybug's words, an emotional and crying Queen Wasp calms down. She rejects the qakuma.
That surprises Hawkmoth (NOT AGAIN !!). That's second time someone rejects his akuma and the worst point is it's the same person who manages to do it twice.
"Queen Wasp is supposed to be my best creation. But even with a Miraculous on her, she still able to repell my akuma. 🤬 Ladybug and Cat Noir had convinced Chloé to change her mind but they made a mistake today... and there will be others. With Chloé becoming Queen Bee, knowing this brat, I still can exploit her relationship with the two heroes. This brat can be Ladybug's ally... or her latter's weakness. 😈 (to Émilie in her coffin) Then, we'll finally be together once again… my love."
Miraculous Ladybug repairs the damages and the Nadja Chamack's reporter crew comes to see Chloé for make her confront the Audrey's reaction.
Like in canon, Audrey expresses her disappointment to Chloé. But in this AU, Ladybug becomes angry and takes Chloé's defense by roasting backfiring the latter's mom. The Ladybug's line to Audrey:
"You're also wrong about your daughter not being exceptional. In fact, Chloé is exceptionally mean... Huh... She have any power enough to become a superhero. She may be more exceptional than you. Compared to you, even a rock seems more capable of becoming popular."
Chloé nervously laughs about her mom being roasted by Ladybug.
Next, she gives the Bee miraculous to Ladybug (despite she initially hesitant) because The latter had explained her to have accidentally lost the concerned artefact ans she tells the fact Hawkmoth is now aware Chloé and Queen Bee are the same person.
Like in canon, Marinette declines Audrey's offer of becoming fashion designer and "convinces" her to stay in Paris for better knowing Chloé being "exceptional" (in presence of the daughter, of course).
In this AU, After the mom-daughter moment, Chloé thanks Marinette for resolve the issue with her mom. Chloé's line:
I must recognize you're exceptional for a bakery girl, Dupain-Cheng.
Marinette eventually blushes when she listens that. 😳
We have the final scene at the Dupain-Cheng's home, where Marinette plays video games with her parents and Alya. But in this AU, Chloé and Sabrina are here too. They play video games with Marinette and Alya (and Chloé is learning how to play in this ridiculous video game named Ultimate Mecha Strike III).
Malediktator:
There are major changes for this episode.
Chloé presents to her class a video treating about an "interview between Ladybug and Queen Bee".
Like in the original story, nobody in the class isn't foolish about the footage. Meanwhile, no need of Marinette roasting Chloé about the video. Instead of that, she tempers her evaluation towards Chloé's fake documentary:
Marinette: I'm just imagining how would the real Ladybug and Cat Noir react to the video. Cat Noir might laugh. But Ladybug: It's difficult to say. Chloé (sarcastic, bit of pissed off): Thanks for your ridiculous support, Dupain-Cheng.
In this AU, Alix just says:
"She had superpowers for like one day. In the beginning, she worked well but thereafter she went totally outta control !"
Pissed off by her classmates critizing her, Chloé goes to the Mairie de Paris alongside with her mom for ordering demanding that Mayor André Bourgeois (Chloé's daddy) to close down the Françoise Dupont school. But Daddy disapproves. So both Mother and Daughter threat him they leave Paris letting him alone.
Hawkmoth takes benefit of the situation for akumatizating André into Malediktator.
The events of the story are happening like this in this AU:
When Chloé expresses to the entire school since the helicopter she goes to live to New York, everyone is happy. They celebrate that in a party.
Everyone except Adrien and Sabrina. The two latters aren't satisfied. Their childhood friend is leaving Paris with anger and sadness.
Marinette initially didn't know how to react to see Chloé's departure (in reason of her other friends Alya, Alix, Rose, Juleka and Mylène: Chloé the "semi-bully" didn't really matter for these girls) but with Adrien's speech, she feels sad about the blondie girl's departure (despite the latter's behavior of spoiled brat and bad girl, this girl was her friend and her former "love interest").
Malediktator immobilizes the Audrey's helicopter and uses his enslavement magic power for turning his awful wife into a devoted wife by using his enslavement magic power. Chloé flees the scene for taking a hide.
Malediktator attacks the school and brainwashes everyone for destroy the place here. Only Marinette and Adrien escape. And Ladybug and Cat Noir appear.
Cat Noir is enslaved and he acte like a real cat.
Marinette come to see Master Fu for help. She chooses the Bee miraculous. Master Fu has doubts about giving the honey comb to "her". Marinette reassures the old man and she goes to find "her".
Ladybug finds Chloé who is gone to hide from Malediktator. She asks to Chloé what happened for Daddy getting akumatized. The conversation:
"It has begun with my dumbasses of classmates. They don't respect me. They don't want to admit I am a superhero And I'm sure Marinette is betraying me."
Ladybug feels a bit of offended about Chloé blaming their class. Meanwhile, she reasons her:
Ladybug: I am Ladybug. You can trust me (remember Queen Wasp ↑) . You can tell me the truth. Chloé: It— it was me. I hurt my daddy's feelings. Because I want to leave Paris, forever. Ladybug: But... Why ? Because of what happened in school ? I'm sure Marinette probably didn't exactly mean what she said and I can't imagine she wouldn't want to be friends with you anymore for one second. Do you think the same thing about me ? About Adrien ? Chloé: Oh, it's not just Marinette even if I have still interest on her. Adrien is not really interested on me. The answer is I have no reason to be here: nobody likes me. I have no friends. Other kids of my school and I haven't common. They don't act like me. I'm… useless. Ladybug: A friend once told me: nobody is useless, Chloé. And another learned me: Each person has one form of power. With that power, each person has the potential of accomplish many things for the loved ones' sake. This power is: The choice. Chloé: It's easy for you to say that. You're Ladybug, a superhero. You serve the purpose. I love you so much but I think like you about power. I don't totally see what form of power you have except to fight monsters and Hawkmoth. During the next times after your entrance, I have thoughts about you ruling the entire Paris. With my dad as mayor, I have the power but something sounds wrong with that. Can your power fix up this problem ? Ladybug: Your power ? That depends of YOUR choice. And Yes, I can fix up all the messes. You said it yourself in your documentary. Chloé: You saw it ?! I'm so embarrassed. That film's ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. I realize that now. These noobies must be surely right. I have disappointed them in addition of Marinette, Sabrina, Alya and Adrien. Ladybug: Don't worry Chloé. You can fix your own messes, if that's what you want. You, too, can serve a purpose, but you have to want to. The choice is yours. Chloé: I do want to.
And Ladybug gives the Bee miraculous to Chloé who becomes Queen Bee again.
Tumblr media
The two superheroins confront Malediktator and defeat him in the same way as in canon. Thanks to a useful Cat-ified Cat Noir.
In the aftermath, Chloé helps his butler (she calls him "Armand" for the opportunity !).
Marinette later requests Chloé to come to the school. We reveal to the latter a surprise party celebrating Queen Bee. The line of the party is: No need of power when we need choice.
Marinette, Adrien and Alya (in addition of Sabrina) congratulate Chloé for her actions as Queen Bee and for supporting Ladybug and Cat Noir in their purpose. When Chloé expresses doubts to Dupain-Cheng about their relationship. The latter says that:
Are you calling me a traitor. You aren't disappointing, nor useless, nor ridiculous. Not utterly ridiculous. We'll still friends, Chloé. Adrien too.
In this AU, during the party, Marinette temporary leaves the school for returning back as Ladybug. During her entrance, she publicly confesses to Chloé she is prideful of her. That makes Chloé happy.
And when Marinette comes back, Chloé holds a speech what she calls the bakery girl as exceptional. She talks to every classmate from her class:
"Each of you have one power in you: The choice. And you have the pow... the choice of not to be ridiculous. Not utterly ridiculous."
Her speech inspires respect from the entire school.
Marinette/Ladybug is sure: Chloé has a good side and she is the most exceptional person Marinette knew ever (but not more than Alya, Adrien and Cat Noir).
Reverser:
Same story as in canon. But in this AU, Chloé treats Sabrina much less as a slave than in canon.
That doesn't prevent Marc/Reverser to use his/their Reversion power on the two girls.
Ladybug and Cat Noir (helped by Alix and Nathaniel) manage to deakumatize Marc.
Nathaniel and Marc reconcile together and produce their comic book together. They are a couple too now.
Heroes' Day:
This is the most important two-parter arc I like.
It's Heroes' Day in Paris and everyone must prepare a good action for others.
At the school, Marinette hastly promises a thing she can't in fact accomplish. Chloé announces to offers her autograph to anyone who wants one.
In this AU, Chloé promises (in bonus of autograph) to offer one Queen Bee's badge to anyone who wants too.
Gabriel and Nathalie execute their evil plan to drive Parisians down in despaire.
Hawkmoth akumatizes Cerise Lila into Volpina who is hateful toward Ladybug.
The trap works. Hawkmoth later akumatizes Nathalie (her assistant and accomplice) into Catalyst. She boosts the butterfly villain's powers (turning him into Scarlet Moth).
The mass akumatization happens. Ladybug sees Master Fu for choose the Miraculouses she must give to the chosen holders. She eventually takes the Fox, Turtle and Bee Miraculouses.
Ladybug finds Alya and Nino. So Rena Rouge and Carapace can join the battle.
Cat Noir is the one who gives the Bee miraculous to Chloé. In this AU, when Chloé expresses her disappointing about see another ridiculous hero instead of Ladybug, Cat Noir could say to the blondie girl:
"If Ladybug sent her "second fiddle" to do the job, it's for your safety. You should trust me like you trust Ladybug. In addition, she already trust you."
The famous "what's the magic word" scene even happens and Queen Bee joins the squad.
The battle happens. Rena Rouge, Carapace and Queen Bee are scarletakumatized.
Of course, the non akumatized Parisians help thé two remained heroes during the battle.
When Ladybug and Cat Noir manage to come to the Eiffel Tower. They escape to the Volpina's trap ans destroy the Catalyst's akumatized object (that cancels all the scarletakumatizations).
In this AU, when the five heroes were reunited again in the previously mentioned place and encircled Hawkmoth, Queen Bee briefly sees Lila flying.
But she has no time to warm the team because a Butterfly monster/SentiButterfly suddenly appears for protecting Hawkmoth. Nathalie had pulled the broken Peacock miraculous out of the locker (Mayura has begun to entrance).
After Hawkmoth's escape, the five heroes realize the two lost miraculouses are in both supervillains' hands.
Queen Bee warms Ladybug to have seen Lila. the concerned superliar girl has already disappeared too.
Lila is returned at home (the Rossi appartment. Not the Plage from the Catacombs). During her run, she has just used one of her disguises or she had just stored her Lila Rossi disguise (fake eye lenses and wig included) in a bag.
After the battle, the Miraclass eventually organizes the pic at the Place des Vosges (that frees Marinette from a burden).
In this AU, Chloé doesn't treats Sabrina as a slave nor a servant. She takes the time to eat her lunch alongside with the latter, Alya, Nino, Marinette and Adrien.
Adrien receives a phone message calling him to attend a charity event. Before leaving the place, he tells Marinette that she is a nice girl. He even calls her: The everyday Ladybug and Super-Marinette. 🐞 The bakery girl blushes.
Like in canon, Marinette kisses Adrien on the cheek and thanks him. 💋
In this AU, Chloé us thé next to talk to Marinette. She congratulates Marinette for the good atmosphere that she brings toward other people and for the "power" she's supposed to have.
Marinette thanks Chloé in return by calling her: The everyday Queen Bee. 🐝
The latter blushes and she answer to the bluenette:
"I'll remember that, Dupain-Cheng. I am the one who thank you."
Chloé kisses Marinette on the cheek. 💋 The bakery girl blushes and feels happy.
And firework in the background ! 🎆🎇✨
End of Season 2. To be continued in Season 3.

IOTA Reviews: Illusion
Tumblr media
You know, It's really sad how this is a Lila episode, and she somehow isn't the most annoying character to come out of it.
Let's get into the fifth episode of Miraculous Ladybug's fifth season: Illusion
We start off with a news broadcast where several people are interviewed about the recent developments this season. There's an attempt made to show differing perspectives, but while half are recurring characters who are confident Ladybug and Cat Noir will beat Monarch (Xavier, Mr. Damocles, and Alec), the other half are antagonistic characters who either blame Ladybug for everything going wrong or are too stupid to care about the bigger picture (XY, Chloe, and Bob Roth).
This is one of the overarching problems with the show, its refusal to show any nuance in its arguments. We already know how easy it is for the writers to blame Marinette for things whenever there's a conflict, but whenever there's an argument where both sides make interesting points, the opposing side is almost always represented by an antagonist or jerk who frames their view in either a condescending or idiotic way so it's easy for the viewer to brush them off, and the same can be applied to their side of the argument as well. Hell, it's already happened twice this season with Lila and Chloe (Multiplication, Determination). It just comes across like the show is pretending to act like its conflict is deeper without actually showing any real nuance with it. I get that some arguments aren't morally gray, but if you're trying to discuss Ladybug's past failures, put more effort into showing how the people of Paris would see something like this without knowing the full context.
Also, this is a minor thing, but I actually like how when we see Alec on the talk show, he's wearing a wig like the one he had in “Wishmaker”, and has the same positive outlook on life he had at the end of that episode. For a show that usually plays loosey-goosey with its continuity, it's surprising to see the writers actually acknowledge the character growth of someone as insignificant as Alec.
Tumblr media
Congratulations, Miraculous Ladybug. You managed to give a very minor side character a consistent arc. Now if only you could put the same amount of effort into writing your main cast.
We cut to Adrien's room where, shock of all shocks, he isn't exactly a fan of his image being used for a high-tech ring without his consent. He storms off to see his father, but it turns out that Gabriel is experimenting with the idea of not being such a terrible father for once. He's making breakfast, saying that Adrien can call him “Dad” now, and even admits that he's been very neglectful towards his son ever since Emilie “disappeared”. Yeah, he's cooking breakfast in his white suit and haircut that makes him look like a grandpa for some reason, but hey, at least the kitchen isn't on fire.
Tumblr media
Of course, Gabriel still isn't really good at comforting his son, as seen with his response to Adrien's concerns about Alliance.
Adrien: Speaking of which, Dad, I'm not really comfortable with having my face on all these rings. That's actually why I didn't want to be a model anymore, to avoid that. Do you understand?
Gabriel: Of course, I understand, my son. But that's the point; it's just an image, it's not you! And since this image frees you from your obligations, we, the Agrestes, are able to spend more time together. But if you'd rather everything went back to the way it was before, just say the word.
Adrien: You're probably right.
Gabriel: You'll see, my son. Alliance will bring us closer.
“I know you're concerned about me using your image for something that I could have hired literally anyone else for, but if you would rather go back to being a model on a strict schedule, just say the word.”
Father of the year, ladies and gentlemen.
We get a decent interaction between Marinette and Alya where they discuss ways that Monarch could be giving Miraculous to his Akumas, unaware of what the Alliance rings do. Alya comes up with an interesting hypothesis that Monarch is using the Dog Miraculous to swipe them back, and honestly, that sounds like a much better plan than “develop a cutting-edge AI ring and hope whoever I akumatize had enough money to buy one”. I like this bit, as it shows the two thinking of ways to stop Monarch beyond beating whatever Akuma he sends out next. It honestly could have been a really interesting story arc to see Marinette, Cat Noir, and Alya learn more about how Monarch is using the new Miraculous he got instead of having us know what he's doing already.
After class ends, Nino talks to Adrien about an underground resistance he's forming with his friends, deciding to give each member a condiment-themed title.
Alya: What's up with the sauces?
Nino: What's up is Ladybug and Cat Noir don't have us to help them anymore.
Alya: (nervously) Um... uh... what do you mean, “us”?
Nino: Well, us, you Rena Rouge, me Carapace! (Alya kicks Nino's leg underneath the table) Ouch! What's the big deal? We can tell Marinette and Adrien we used to be superheroes. It's not like we have any Miraculous that Monarch could steal from us. The only ones who need to protect their secret identities are Ladybug and Cat Noir, not us. And anyway, I already told Adrien about Carapace.
Adrien: (chuckles nervously)
Marinette: Adrien knew?! Alya, did you know that he knew?!
Alya: What, no, I swear I didn't know at all! (kicks Nino's leg again)
Nino: Ow! Come on! He's my best bud, I can tell him stuff! You and Marinette tell each other stuff, don't you?
Alya and Marinette: No we don't!
Yeah, remember how shocking it was for Nino to reveal that he and Alya were Rena Rouge and Carapace to Adrien in “Rocketear”, and how we thought this reveal would play into something big like the Season 4 finale, possibly splintering the trust several characters had with each other? This is what it culminates in. Wasn't waiting over a year since that plotpoint was established totally worth it for that gag that once again ignores the secret identity rule?
Also, just because you don't have a Miraculous, it doesn't mean Monarch can't target you like he did last season (Optigami, Sentibubbler), you dumbass.
For the first time in God knows how long, Lila actually becomes relevant when she asks to sit with the four, only to be rebuffed by Marinette and Nino. Using some more condiments and food as props, Nino explains his plan.
Nino: We're gonna film an akumatization.
Alya: And how are you, Comrade Ketchup, gonna be in the know when and where this akumatization takes place?
Nino: Easy, Comrade Beurre Maître d'Hôtel. I'm gonna make it happen.
youtube
Yep, this is the plot of the episode, people. Nino's going to try and get someone akumatized. Now I know what you're all obviously thinking: Isn't this cruel?
Adrien: Isn't that cruel?
Alya: Totally! To make someone suffer just to discover Monarch's technique? Super cruel!
Nino: No, it's not! You forget Ladybug always fixes everything in the end with her magic ladybugs! The akumatized victims forget what happened to them.
Oh yeah, this is totally ethical, you guys. Who cares about the emotional trauma an Akuma victim would go through, much less any civilians endangered by their rampage?
To make things even better, guess who Nino wants to get akumatized?
Tumblr media
Okay, putting aside what we, the audience, already know about Gabriel that Nino doesn't, why would he think pissing off one of the most influential fashion designers in the city of Paris is a good idea? He says he's targeting him because it's easy to do so during parent-teacher conferences, but why not target someone else who has been akumatized more often than him, like Xavier/Mr. Pigeon? I don't think the idea of a more morally gray plan to stop Monarch is a bad one, it's just that this plan is so stupid, and the writers only go over the ethical implications, and that said plan is so ludicrous, Nino is basically asking for a restraining order.
While Adrien and Marinette agree to Nino's plan, Alya only hesitantly goes along with it, but unbeknownst to any of them, Lila was overhearing their conversation, so she goes to tell Gabriel what they're doing. During the conferences, Marinette barges in and pretends to trip and drop some pizza onto Gabriel's clothes, and I'm going to assume that either the pizza was cold of Gabriel is really good at keeping a cool head because there's no way taking a hot pizza to the chest wouldn't hurt like hell. Adrien and Alya come in with more food, and we get the one funny joke of the episode with Alya half-assing her performance as the half-heartedly throws some cake onto Gabriel's suit. Pretty funny how Nino is conveniently the only one who isn't taking the risk by attacking Gabriel in front of his teacher by filming the whole thing, isn't it?
Gabriel has had enough and does a 180, planning to take Adrien out of school and somehow, Marinette blames herself for going along with the plan... even though she was the only one to not approve of it, while Adrien and Alya did, and even then, the latter two were very hesitant. It turns out this was all part of Gabriel's plan, as we see him transform into Monarch as soon as he gets to his lair and uses Trixx's power to create a Mirage of his civilian form, having a breakdown so dramatic, I'm surprised he didn't end it by saying, “YOU ARE TEARING ME APART, MARINETTE!”.
The illusion of Gabriel turns into the Collector again, and now he supposedly has the Horse Miraculous' Voyage as a power. Adrien and Marinette transform into Cat Noir and Ladybug respectively, and try to fend off the “Akuma”. Back in Monarch's lair, we learn that he somehow has the ability to unify with five different Miraculous at once, choosing to do so with the Bee, Mouse, Horse, and Rooster Miraculous. Why is he able to do this now?
youtube
Monarch uses Voyage and heads to the sewers, activating Venom before using Multiplication to create eight smaller clones of himself, finally using Sublimination to give the copies the power of invisibility. Strange, wouldn't wanting to be invisible count as a wish? While looking for “the Collector”, Ladybug uses her Lucky Charm, getting a bag of shredded cheese. The two chase after the illusion, only to fall through a Voyage portal into the sewers, where Cat Noir is almost immediately stunned by one of the clones. Hey, it took five whole episodes this season for him to be incapacitated by an Akuma to pointlessly raise the stakes this time! It's a new record! Ladybug throws the cheese to reveal the clones, who are then chased off by some nearby rats.
Monarch goes back to his normal form, and after a small pep talk, the illusion pretends to reject the Akuma entirely before falling into the water. The real Gabriel detransforms and then pretends to have gotten out. So Gabriel tricked the heroes with his foolproof plan... except for the fact that Ladybug and Cat Noir should have recognized the use of Venom, the hidden clones of the Collector when the video Nino got only said he had the Horse Miraculous' power, the akuma somehow purifying itself when Ladybug still needed to de-evilize it in “Rocketear” and “Penalteam”, the fact that Gabriel should be soaking wet from falling into the water, and the—okay, you all know where this is going.
youtube
Meanwhile, Nino sees the footage of the illusion and sees what he believes to be the way Monarch gave the Collector the Horse Miraculous' powers. Nino then apologizes to Gabriel for attacking him, Gabriel forgives him, and Nino invites him into the Resistance, with a bunch of new members. The final scene reveals that in addition to Nino, Alya, Marinette, Adrien, and Gabriel, the Resistance now has Max, Kim, Rose, Juleka, Ivan, Mylene, and to Marinette's horror, Lila. Also, there's a post-credits scene where Gabriel explains what he did to Tomoe when literally everyone watching was able to figure it out.
Okay, so let's summarize. The first mission for Nino's resistance involved assaulting a private civilian, was easily discovered before it could even be implemented, was just as easily foiled by an illusion, now Monarch and one of his allies have infiltrated the alliance as moles, and Nino isn't even aware that his plan was a colossal failure. This resistance isn't exactly going to be like the Rebel Alliance, is it?
Yeah, this episode sucked. It's easily the worst one so far in my opinion. There were a handful of decent moments and ideas here, but my God, the story was just terrible. Morally gray subject or not, it's hard to get behind the heroes when they try to intentionally piss someone off for a plan that the audience knows is going to fail, especially a plan as stupid as Nino's. This episode features Nino at his most obnoxious and unlike Alya, Marinette, and especially Adrien, he doesn't even feel bad for what he did to Gabriel when it ended up being (as far as we know) completely pointless. It feels like the writers wanted to gloss over the ethics of Nino's plan by making Gabriel the victim, because if it was anyone else, it would have made him look like a colossal prick. The fact that he learns nothing and thinks his moronic scheme was a success really doesn't help.
The other characters thankfully weren't as bad. It seemed like the writers were trying to show some self-awareness by having Alya, Marinette, and Adrien object to the plan in one way or another, but it never really went much other than them begrudgingly going along with it, much less calling him out for his actions. At the same time, they all got some decent moments, like Alya and Marinette's discussion about Monarch and Adrien struggling to convey his feelings about the Alliance rings to Gabriel.
It's also kind of weird that it took us about five episode into the season for Lila to finally be relevant again after she did absolutely nothing for the last three episodes of Season 4 and the first four episodes of this season. It was only three and a half years since “Ladybug”, the last major Lila episode premiered, right? But hey, at least the writers didn't overindulge in the dumb Lila lies like her other episodes, and was used more as an informant to kick off Gabriel's counter to Nino's plan.
Putting aside how terrible Nino's plan was, Gabriel's plan still had a lot of problems to it. Like I already mentioned, it's a little strange that Ladybug and Cat Noir never talk about the tiny clones they fought, or the fact that Cat Noir was stung by Venom. I can kind of suspend my disbelief by saying Ladybug was too focused on the battle to think, but why the hell didn't Cat Noir say anything? You would think after working alongside Queen Bee and Vesperia, he would recognize what being stung by Venom must look like. Yeah, Ladybug and Cat Noir didn't know Monarch can now use more powers for some reason, but it still really bothers me, because they should know the Collector can't multiply himself. It's also strange that he made his trick so hard to find when you would think it would be more obvious to see
But overall, this one was just a chore to get through. It feels like the writers saw how much some people didn't like Nino in “Rocketear”, and were like, “You call THAT character assassination?” And speaking of...
THE BIGGEST IDIOT OF THE EPISODE IS... NINO
Tumblr media
Was there ever any doubt? The dude talked about his identity in a public place, nonchalantly blew him and his girlfriend's cover when he had no reason to for his Resistance, tried to get his best friend's dad akumatized while not caring about any potential damage, showed no remorse for what he did when his plan blew up in his face, tried to tell Ladybug and Cat Noir about what he learned while they were fighting the Collector, and all that was for a plan that didn't even work because the intel was discovered with ease, to say nothing about how he unintentionally let two enemies into his own Resistance. I've seen a lot of stupid decisions in this show, but never have I seen a single episode where a character makes screw-up after screw-up and doesn't even realize how much of a colossal moron he's being. With the past five episodes I covered and awarded Biggest Idiot Awards to (Ladybug, Alya, Xuppu, Mr. Damocles, and Luka), it was more them not seeing the bigger picture. Here, Nino is honestly trying to help Ladybug and Cat Noir, yet he failed at his job in every way.

I am very curious how they'll translate the Agreste family conversations in the English dub because there is so much nuance expressed at a grammatical level.
Nathalie says to Adrien "Allez, filez, vous allez être en retard."
This is such an interesting sentence. It translates as "quick, you'll be late [to school]" but:
The "you" is plural. She does "vouvoiement" when speaking to Adrien, which is something you do when speaking very politely, usually to someone who is higher than you in social hierarchy. It is similar to "usted" in Spanish.
But the verb "filer" is such a colloquial term. It belongs to the "registre familier", a way of speaking reserved to friends and family. "Allez, hop, file!" is something you'd expect to hear from your parent.
I find the clash of the most and least polite forms in Nathalie's speech very fascinating. It is like she is trying to give Adrien the motherly love he deserves but doesn't want to replace Emilie as his mother. So even when expressing her care for Adrien, she passively reminds that she is working for them.
In fact, earlier the same episode, in the kitchen, Gabriel asks her to call him by his name instead of "Sir", to which Nathalie reacts very poorly, expressing that she won't call him that.
Later on, when she incapacitates him, she says:
I became your bodyguard, your right hand, your friend, and even more than that... But now it is over. You used to do all this by your love for Emilie but now you do it because you're crazy.
Let's remember those times when Nathalie was providing support to Gabriel in a romantic way. When Adrien asks her about her first love, Nathalie is thinking of Gabriel and Emilie, so there surely is some romantic tension and possibly history between the three.
It seems to me that Nathalie has overindulged herself in her relationship with Gabriel and kind of forgot her allegience to Emilie at one point. In this regard, the turning point is in Evolution.
Ok, I went to quite a tangent here, so in summary: Nathalie speaks in a way to remind both Adrien and Gabriel that she is not willing to replace Emilie. She just respects her memory too much for that.

And so our story begins…
Long ago, in a faraway kingdom, in a peaceful village there lived a beautiful maiden. Her name was Ondine, and she was the daughter of the village baker. She was known through the village for her fiery red hair, gemlike teal eyes, and the fact that she was an exquisite dancer!
Ondine, however, was a sweet, quiet and rather shy girl, content to keep to herself and assist her father in the bakery, dancing around the kitchen with a smile on her face. She also happened to be quite athletic, loving to swim and run…but always by herself.
Her father, Arturo, sometimes worried about her and would suggest every now and again that she attend the dances that took place in the village. But Ondine would think of everyone there staring at her and she just couldn’t do it.
Not far away, in the palace of the kingdom in which this village laid, lived the energetic, adventurous, and rather strapping Prince Kim. He was always up for a challenge, loving to be told he couldn’t do something just to prove the person wrong. He loved to hunt and explore the wilderness around him…but not without reminders from his mother, Queen Mai, that he would soon need to choose someone to marry and rule by his side.
Back in the village, Ondine was content with her peaceful, quiet life…but that life was about to change. One fateful day, while Ondine was laying out the day’s inventory, she couldn’t believe her eyes when a unicorn ran right by the bakery’s window, chased by several villagers with weapons. Afraid they might hurt the beautiful creature, Ondine followed close behind.
But the unicorn was clever and escaped her pursuers several times, even using a stray ax to cut a rope around her neck short. She then proceeded to take off into the forest, with Ondine being compelled to follow her, partly because of the rope still around her neck, which could cause trouble.
Ondine followed the unicorn to an old fallen tree that led into a waterfall, and rushed to help her when she slipped. But the unicorn got back up and slipped through a passageway behind the falls that she opened with her horn, giving the redhead a look that said “Well, are you coming?” Hesitantly, the girl followed just as the passage slipped closed again. She emerges from the stone tunnel in a clearing in the midst of a gorgeous and lush forest, by a crystalline pond.
Ondine heard alarmed winnying and came upon the unicorn once more, and sure enough, the rope still tied around her neck had gotten stuck in some tree roots. Spotting Ondine, the unicorn asked in perfect English if the girl planned to just stand there gawking or help her, shocking Ondine. But nonetheless, she went to look for something sharp to cut the rope.
Ondine comes across an ancient tree, and sees something shimmering in its trunk. She gets closer and sees that it’s a beautiful crystal, which she goes to pull out to cut the rope. She is able to pull it out easily, to the surprise of her unseen observers, a skunk named Denise, a porcupine named Simon, and the Fairy Queen, Caline.
Ondine returns to the unicorn, who is shocked to see her holding the crystal, as the fairy queen and the animals approach. Ondine apologizes and tries to return it, but Caline tells her the crystal belongs to her now and that they’ve been waiting for her for a long time. She also thanks her for helping the young unicorn, whose name is revealed to be Missy. She then scolds Missy, reminding her that she knows better than to venture into the realm of humans, as a creature from the Enchanted Forest can be killed by one. Missy apologizes but states she had thought she might be able to find something to defeat someone she calls “Bird Brain”.
Caline then goes on to explain to Ondine the importance of the crystal she holds. She tells her how, many years ago, her cousin Gabriel had lived peacefully in the Enchanted Forest with her and the other magical creatures. But when the time came for her uncle to choose his successor as the ruler of the forest, he had chosen Caline over Gabriel. Furious, Gabriel left the forest...only to return years later with his daughter, Lila, in tow, now a master of dark magic. He began taking over parts of the forest, with Caline's attempts to force him to leave proving futile. Many of the Forest's bravest elves, including Simon and Denise, banded together to try and confront him, but were transformed into common forest animals and forced to build his new, dark palace.
Caline then tells Ondine that as the one who freed the crystal from the tree, she is destined to overcome Gabriel's dark powers and save the forest from certain destruction. But the very thought of taking on a dark sorcerer and being responsible for saving an entire realm, and summarily letting all those people down, terrifies Ondine and she wants to return to the village, sure that this must be a mistake, disheartening the Enchanted Forest creatures. But Missy can sense that the Fairy Queen sees something special in the redhead, and decides to go after her.
As they are walking back towards the entrance, Missy gives Ondine a very...eccentric and unusual pep talk, but some of her words are solid, and she assures Ondine that she can tell the girl is a lot braver than she believes herself to be. But at that moment, two enormous, dark birds swoop down from the sky, before transforming and revealing themselves to be Gabriel and Lila.
The two mock Ondine about how she could possibly be the hero of the forest, before Gabriel asks Lila if she would like a new feather pillow. He then uses his dark magic to transform Ondine into a swan!
Before he can do any more damage, Missy rams him with her horn, allowing Ondine to fly away. She meets again with Caline, who presents her with a crown that contains the magic crystal, which will protect her from Gabriel's dark sorcery. It's then that Gabriel reappears, confronting Caline and demanding she hand over the magic crystal, but the Fairy Queen refuses. Gabriel tries to attack Ondine with his magic once more, but the crystal serves as a barrier. Frustrated, he retakes his bird form and flies away with Lila, who complains she didn't get her feather pillow.
Ondine asks Caline if she can change her back into a human, but sadly the Fairy Queen's powers are not strong enough to do so. Like with Simon, Denise and the other elves who were able to escape Gabriel's palace, Caline is able to change her back into a human, but only until the sunrise. At daybreak, she will change back into a swan, the same as the elves transform back into animals.
Ondine resolved that there must be some way to defeat Gabriel, and Caline tells her that the answer lays in the Book of Forest Lore, which can only be opened by the bearer of the crystal. Missy volunteers to take her to the book, which Caline explains is guarded by an…eccentric troll named Anais. She gives the two a magical leaf to serve as a key to the book’s vault and sends them on their way.
Meanwhile, in the palace, Kim is supposed to be preparing for the ball his mother has arranged, inviting eligible young ladies from all across the kingdom, while all he hopes is that maybe he can at least form something of a real connection with one of them. He also knows that the best season for hunting will soon pass...
Back in the Enchanted Forest, Ondine and Missy reach the entrance to the forest vault, and use the leaf-key to enter. They enter the massive library, and are greeted by Anais, who is excited to have some company for the first time in ages. Unfortunately, the library is quite messy, and the three spend all night searching for the Book of Forest Lore, and Ondine changes back into a swan at daybreak.
In Gabriel's dark palace, Lila complains that she has nothing to wear, even as she combs through her scores of jewelry and dresses. As Gabriel paces the room deep in thought, she asks why he can't simply destroy Ondine, seeing as 'any old human could do it!' Gabriel then realizes that now that Ondine is a creature of the Enchanted Forest, not even the crystal’s magic can protect her from a human! And so he puts a plan into action…
The next evening, when Kim is out riding and hunting in the woods, he’s led by the biggest eagle he’s ever seen into the Enchanted Forest, when he spies a gorgeous swan flying through the air, though he doesn’t see the eagle pursuing it. But as he readies to take the shot…he can’t, mesmerized by the lovely creature. And it’s a good thing, because as the swan lands, the sun begins to set, and the bird transforms into the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen in his life. He approaches her, surprising Ondine, who asks how he got into the forest, adding a hasty “your highness” to the question. Kim is surprised she knows who he is, and Ondine explains that she lives in the village. Well, she did, before, you know…
Angry that his plan failed, Gabriel swoops down as Ondine is explaining everything that’s happened to her to Kim. The prince angrily calls Gabriel out for trying to use him to kill the girl, to which Gabriel scoffs and goes to attack him with magic, but Ondine steps up to shield him with the crystal. Gabriel goes to attack again, but is distracted by a screeching Lila, who is in the midst of being bombarded by some of Denise’s skunk friends.
Ondine and Kim begin talking and a crush is quick to develop on both sides as she shows him around the Enchanted Forest. He comes to see her for the next few nights, the two discovering they have quite a bit in common, such as a love for athletics and similar, goofy senses of humor. On one night he comes to visit, the elves even set up a romantic picnic for them, leaving both flustered. On this night, he asks her to come to back to the palace with him, where she’ll be protected from Gabriel, but Ondine explains that she has to help the creatures of the Enchanted Forest. He understands, but invites her to attend the royal ball in a few days, to which she agrees. Before he leaves, Ondine asks him to tell her father that she’s alright, and he promises to do so.
Kim arrives at the bakery, but finds Arturo isn’t there. The local cobbler explains that the man is out looking for his daughter, and Kim asks the man to send the baker to the palace once he returns, and the cobbler agrees.
Back in the forest, Anais has finally located the Book of Forest Lore, and brings it to Caline and Ondine. Reading it, they discover that the bearer of the crystal can defeat any evil magic when joined with one they truly love, and who loves them in return. The Enchanted Forest creatures rejoice at this, as everyone could see the sparks flying between Ondine and the prince. However, the book also says that if the one the bearer loves swears love to another, the crystal’s power will be lost.
And so the magical creatures prepare Ondine for the ball so as to ensure Kim will pledge his love to her. Ondine doubts this will happen, as Kim is the prince while she is a mere baker’s daughter, but Caline reassures her that she is beautiful inside and out, and gifts her a gorgeous dress for the ball (Odette’s Ballgown). Ondine is also nervous because she has never danced at a royal ball, and a few of the elves demonstrate, with Simon doing a lively river dance and Denise a vivacious salsa number. Ondine herself performs a gorgeous ballet dance with all the elves, that they all assure her will be perfect!
However, just after this, Gabriel swoops down and abducts Anais, carrying them away to his castle, along with the Book of Forest Lore. Having used too much of her magical powers, Caline is unable to stop him. Having transformed back with the sunrise, Ondine, Missy, the elves and the Fairy Queen make their way to Gabriel’s castle to rescue Anais.
Reading the Book of Forest Lore, Gabriel discovers the crystal’s weakness, and devises a plan to trick Kim into professing his love to Lila in place of Ondine, by way of a magical necklace that disguises his daughter as the one the prince truly loves, i.e. the redhead. Anais angrily declares that his plan won’t work, prompting Gabriel to transform it into an inchworm.
Outside the dark palace, Ondine and her companions devise a plan to rescue Anais. Ondine flies to the entrance near the roof, with Missy and the enchanted elves providing cover and diversion for her. There are a few close calls, but she manages to get in and save the transformed Anais, who explains Gabriel’s plan to everyone. Ondine resolves that she must go now, regardless of the dangers, if she’s to have a hope of saving everyone. If Kim sees her as a swan, he’ll realize he’s been tricked, and they’ll still have a chance! With that, Ondine leaves for the palace.
That afternoon, Kim is waiting for Ondine at the ball, his parents eager to meet the girl that’s captured their adventurous son’s heart. It’s then that Gabriel, having spelled himself to look like Arturo, arrives with the disguised Lila, and sure enough, Kim sees Ondine in her place when he looks at her, and takes her to meet his parents. Lila is a surprisingly good actress, and is able to imitate Ondine quite convincingly.
With that, Kim takes to the dance floor with Lila, with Ondine, in her swan form, having just arrived. She desperately tries to get the prince’s attention, but Gabriel uses his magic to shut the windows, keeping her from entering.
Overhearing Kim ask the disguised Lila if she would consider being his bride, Gabriel approaches the two and asks the prince if he truly loves her. Believing the girl he speaks of to be Ondine, he answers wholeheartedly that he does. Outside the ballroom, the real Ondine collapses as the crystal is stripped of its power. It’s then that Gabriel removes the enchantments on himself and Lila, revealing the horrible truth. Kim demands to know what he did to Ondine, with Gabriel sneeringly answering that he himself doomed the girl when he swore his love to Lila, who mockingly asks when they should have the wedding, before leaving with her father.
As the sun sets, the unconscious Ondine returns to her human form, Gabriel stealing the crown from her cold forehead and presenting it to an eager Lila after he removes the crystal. He affixes the crystal to his collar and prepares to destroy Ondine. Only for Lila to call out for him just in time to dodge a strike from the prince’s sword. Gabriel shatters Kim’s sword with his magic and mocks the boy as the Enchanted Forest denizens arrive, pulled in a coach by Missy. Caline assures the distraught unicorn and elves that Ondine is still alive, sending her magic sprites to retrieve the girl as Kim distracts Gabriel.
Gabriel fires a spell at the prince, who ducks behind Lila, causing it to hit her by mistake, transforming her into a pig! Lila begins to throw a fit, but Gabriel leaves to pursue the coach with Ondine, telling Lila to be quiet for the first time in her life. They flee for the Enchanted Forest, but Gabriel crashes the coach. He demands they hand Ondine over to him, but Missy, Denise and Simon step up to shield her. Caline tells him to leave Ondine alone, as it’s her that his fight is with. Gabriel agrees and the two engage in a battle of magic, which ends when he transforms the Fairy Queen into a mouse! Missy and the two elves try to fight back, but he easily repels them.
Just as Gabriel is again about to blast the sleeping Ondine with his magic, an arrow stops him in his tracks. As the dark sorcerer prepares to deal with Kim once and for all, Ondine awakens and sees the prince in danger. She rushes to help him, drawing Gabriel’s attention, and Gabriel sends his dark magic towards her, only for Kim to try and shield her, knowing she no longer has the protection of the crystal, sending them both to the ground, their hands clasped together.
As Gabriel prepares to destroy them, the crystal around his neck begins to glow brightly, the same color as when it was used by Ondine before, revealing that its power isn’t gone, reawakened by the love between the swan maiden and the prince and their sacrifice for one another. Gabriel is overwhelmed by the magic of love within the crystal, and loses his dark powers. His castle crumbles and all of his evil spells are undone. The elves regain their original forms, along with the Fairy Queen. Life and light returns to the entire Enchanted Forest, as Ondine and Kim awaken in each other’s arms, the curse on the girl lifted. Relieved that their ordeal is finally over, the two share a kiss.
Two years later, the entire village is celebrating the two’s engagement in the Enchanted Forest, and Arturo asks the prince a very important question: How many layers for the wedding cake?
And they all lived happily ever after! (Except for Gabriel and Lila, who spent the rest of their lives as cuckoo clock birds!)

Chapter 8: New Brooch, Who Dis?
Marinette rubbed the paper between her fingers and opened her mouth. “M. Agreste, I...”
Her voice trailed off as the absurdity of what she was about to offer hit her. Hey, M. Agreste, I was just wondering. Would you like me to risk certain illness and possible death to help you beat a couple of misled teenagers, heal your wife, and protect your son? Yes, I know nothing like that was covered in the agreement I signed, but I’ve given it a solid night’s thought and decided it might be the only way to make sure the fate of the world doesn’t end up in the wrong hands. Just putting that out there.
You can read the chapter below or on AO3!
Marinette slept in the next day.
It was completely accidental; she’d been so caught up in her thoughts the last night that she’d forgotten to set her alarm. Her parents, being busy in the bakery, hadn’t noticed anything was wrong until Adrien walked into the bakery fifteen minutes after the time when Marinette usually left by.
“Marinette?”
The first few times she heard her mother calling her name, Marinette didn't respond. She'd only just fallen asleep, after all, and she needed at least a few more minutes of shut-eye if she was going to function all day.
"Marinette!" Sabine called again. "Adrien is downstairs waiting to make sure you're okay and you're already late for classes! I know you're exhausted, dear, but you need to wake up."
Marinette swatted away her mother's hand as her brain begrudgingly turned itself on again. Blinking her eyes open, she stared at Sabine while her words slowly processed. Then she sat up in bed as a horrified look spread across her face.
"I'm late! Oh, no, no, no," she fussed as she got out of bed and started pulling on the clothes she'd laid out the evening before.
How could she have fallen asleep the minute before her alarm was supposed to go off? Why had she stared at the clock all night without setting the alarm as a fail safe? What was M. Agreste going to say when he found out that she'd been ten, no, fifteen minutes late to even get up that morning?
Sabine, who'd politely backed downstairs and closed the trapdoor once Marinette started changing, smiled at her daughter when she tore open the door and half fell, half climbed down the ladder.
"Make sure to eat something before you go," she reminded her. "We have some leftover pastries from yesterday in the kitchen if you'd like one."
"I'm already too late to eat breakfast!" Marinette blurted, her heart beating quickly as she rushed through the house, making sure she had everything she needed before heading to the bakery.
Adrien was waiting patiently by the counter, striking up a conversation with M. Dupain. For some reason, his forehead was creased, and he looked a bit sad, too.
“I have fencing practice after school,” he was saying, “And our lunches are at different times. I wish Père would allow Marinette to have lunch sooner so we could eat together, but it’s hard to change his mind about things like this.”
“Hmm. Well, maybe you could ask your bodyguard to drop you off here a little earlier,” M. Dupain offered as Sabine walked down the stairs behind Marinette while quietly insisting that she ate something before she left. “We’d give you both free breakfast in return! And you and Marinette could spend a little more time together. How does that sound?”
Adrien’s eyes strayed over to Marinette, and a soft smile settled over his features. “That sounds lovely,” he said wistfully.
Marinette paused on the stairs for a while as she watched Adrien. Sabine used the moment to stuff a pastry of some sort in her hand.
M. Dupain raised one hand to cover a smile. “Good,” he said, pleased. Then he moved to the back of the room, whispering something to Sabine, who also hid a smile as Marinette hurried over to Adrien.
“Adrien, you spy! I mean, so nice to say hi, er, to see you! I’m so sorry I overslept. Well, underslept, but overslept, too,” Marinette babbled as she chewed off a bite of the chausson aux pommes her mother had given her. “You didn’t have to make yourself late, too, just to make sure I was awake! What will your father say if he finds out you were tardy?”
Adrien’s smile widened as he leaned on the counter and winked at Marinette. “Well, what kind of knight would I be if I left my princess waiting?” he asked. “Besides, you don’t have to worry about me being marked tardy today. I went in to class, and then I told Ms. Bustier that I had to take a call from my father. She let me leave the classroom, and I came straight here. Père won’t even find out!”
Marinette hummed as she took another bite of the apple pastry. The initial rush of energy she’d felt on being woken by her mother was fading, and already her heart rate was back to normal. “That’s smart of you,” she said once she’d swallowed. “How did you know that would work?”
Adrien grimaced. “I learned it from Chloe,” he sighed, stepping away from the counter while Marinette picked up her school bag and walked over to the door. “Please forgive me, ma Princesse, I won’t do it again! I hereby swear not to use my power for evil.”
Marinette tossed the rest of the pastry in her mouth and chewed deliberately while she crossed her arms and waited for Adrien to start to squirm.
“I guess one time won’t hurt,” she said after a minute. “I appreciate you caring this much about me. But since when am I your princess?”
Adrien feigned confusion. “Haven’t you always been? Alas, it seems my devotion has gone unnoticed. I’ll just have to try harder,” he smirked. “Will you allow your humble knight to open the door for you, ma Princesse? As a sign of your knight’s loyalty and undying admiration for you.”
He was acting strange. Adrien didn’t usually do anything that could fall under the umbrella term of ‘rebellious,’ but this was the least Gabriel-approved behavior Marinette had seen from him since his doomed attempt to run away to school the first week.
“Did you get enough sleep last night?” Marinette asked as Adrien held the door open and waited for her to go through.
“Huh? About as much as I usually get, I guess. Why, is the princess concerned for her knight?” He wiggled his eyebrows, and a cheeky grin plastered itself on his face.
Marinette scoffed as she stepped outside. “Concerned for his sanity, at least! You’re not acting very... you, today.”
She glanced at Adrien from the side of her eyes as he closed the door and stood beside her.
“Well, there’s no akuma out here changing my personality, if that’s what you’re worried about,” he said. It seemed like it was supposed to be a joke, but his smile and tone were strained.
“Even if there was one, it wouldn’t do much good,” Marinette murmured.
Adrien blinked, and then he leaned closer to Marinette, his grin turning conspiratorial.
“Right, because Golden Bug and his partner would protect you, just like they did before. They’re pretty charming, right? Do you have a favorite between the two of them?” His eyes glinted, but she was already moving away from him and didn’t notice.
“Well, Chat Grise’s suit isn’t half bad. I like the stripes,” Marinette replied absently, slipping into the back seat while the Gorilla held the door open for her.
Adrien frowned. “Okay, I admit Golden Bug’s suit is a bit boring for a fashion designer like you. But how is he personality-wise? Would you like to, I don’t know, go on a date with him if you had the chance?”
Marinette looked up sharply. “Date him? I still can’t figure out if he even knows what he’s doing, why would I date him on top of everything else? You can have him, though, if you want.”
Adrien seemed confused and almost wounded as the Gorilla closed the car door and went around to his side with an audible huff.
Realizing that maybe that hadn’t been the right thing for her to say, Marinette leaned close to the window and gave Adrien an apologetic smile as the car pulled away from the curb.
He offered a slow wave back, still just as confused as if someone had switched out his orange juice for embalming fluid when he wasn’t looking.
Marinette sat back in her seat and shrugged off the guilty twinge she felt. It wasn’t her fault that Adrien still thought the heroes of Paris were all they were cracked up to be. M. Agreste hadn’t told him about the family secret yet, and it wasn’t her place to share it.
Besides, she had far more pressing matters to worry about today.
It had taken Emilie Agreste twelve full years to fall into a coma from the Peacock’s poison. Two others had died from it before then, but who knew how long they had spent transformed and forming their children through its tainted magic. And one other person had transformed, used the broken Peacock, and lived with only the loss of her vision to detract from her success.
Marinette wondered how long she could last if she used the Peacock in battle. She’d been affected by wearing the brooch already, and her symptoms honestly hadn’t been all that bad. Just one pill had her back to normal in nearly no time, and as long as she kept taking the medicine, wasn’t it possible that she wouldn’t see any worse effects at all?
The car pulled into the Agrestes’ driveway, and Marinette got out and entered the mansion on autopilot.
“Good morning, Nathalie,” she said, walking past her with her hands clasped behind her back. “Do you have my pill ready for me?”
Ms. Sancoeur blinked once or twice. “Yes, it’s waiting for you at your desk.” She hesitated. “Are you feeling all right?”
Marinette snapped her fingers. “That’s what I should have asked him! No ‘worried for your sanity,’ just normal friend questions. I’m all right,” she added as an afterthought. “I got a whole fifteen minutes of sleep at the last second. It did make me late, though. Sorry.”
Ms. Sancoeur made a few adjustments on her tablet. “No, that’s all right, Marinette. Your health is important to me. Try to get more sleep tonight, though. If you’d like, I could draw up a sleep schedule for you, and then you wouldn’t have to sleep in again.”
Marinette walked into her desk, sending water splashing out of the cup sitting on it.
“Merde. That would be nice, but I don’t know how well I’d keep to it,” she said honestly, sliding around the desk and plopping into her chair. She dabbed at the water mess with her sleeve and Nathalie wrinkled her nose.
“I’ll get a cloth for it; just leave it alone. Now, the plan for today was that we’d start with mathematics and go from there, but considering that it isn’t your best subject, and that you’re obviously not quite awake yet, and that the first thirty minutes of class are over already, we’ll skip the lesson for today. Be ready for a double lesson on Monday, though. Alternatively, I could give you extra work to do over the weekend.”
Marinette pinched her arm and tried to get her brain back to the level of wakefulness she’d felt in the initial rush to get ready and leave.
“I think I’d rather do it over the weekend, please.”
Nathalie made a note on the tablet and set it down. “All right. Now, yesterday in history we were learning about—”
Marinette squirmed in her seat. “Wait, shouldn’t I take my pill first, like M. Agreste wanted me to?”
Ms. Sancoeur stared blankly at the far wall and took a deep breath. “Go ahead,” she told Marinette. “I’m sorry for starting the lesson early.”
Marinette gave her an absolving, tired yet beatific smile as she struggled to open the orange pill bottle.
Nathalie ended up having to get it for her.
__*__*__*__*__
“M. Agreste?”
Marinette had just finished her lunch, and Ms. Sancoeur had allowed her to visit Gabriel’s office. She knocked on the door after a moment’s pause, unsure if he had heard her.
The muffled sound of footsteps reached Marinette’s ears, and she stepped back from the door as M. Agreste pushed it open.
She swallowed and held the crinkled notebook page she’d been scribbling on a bit tighter. M. Agreste’s face was somber as he looked down at her.
“Yes, Miss Dupain-Cheng? Is there something wrong you need to tell me about?”
His voice was flat, as empty of emotion as it had been when she’d first been introduced to him. It was a stark contrast to the vulnerable earnestness he’d shown yesterday during the akuma fight.
Yeah, she sounded insane.
But M. Agreste was still staring down at her, his impatient frown growing deeper. She had to say something.
“I... just wanted to say that your son is really nice. He’s super polite and helpful, and you already know that since you raised him, so good job! And his haircut isn’t bad either, but I don’t know if that was his choice or yours because it looks professional, but his ears are hiding, like how the worst croissants in the batch are always at the back of the display shelf at home. Oh, and I’m sorry for being late this morning. I was up all night thinking about different ways I might die.”
She punctuated her speech with a wide grin as she rested her arm on the wall and promised herself to stick to whatever bedtime schedule Nathalie came up with.
Squinting just the tiniest bit, M. Agreste peered down at Marinette.
“And you bothered me during working hours just to say this?”
Crap.
“I just have a lot of feelings?” Marinette offered weakly. She felt like she’d heard that before somewhere. Figuring out what from probably wouldn’t save her skin, though, she thought as she slowly straightened into a more natural stance.
“Hm. Or perhaps you were going to say something else, but lost your nerve at the last moment. I see plenty of young interns suffering from that problem.”
He raised one hand, and Marinette thought he might step back into his room and close the door, but he only fixed the button on his sleeve. Sighing, he continued, “I suppose I should say something to you, as well, so I’ll go first to give you the courage to say what you really meant.
“I am... sorry for any possible discomfort witnessing the akuma battle yesterday may have given you. It was never my intention to make you feel like your position in this household depended on your willingness to do that; I just wanted to help you understand what akumatizations are really like. I assumed, since you’d been in an akuma battle before, that seeing another one wouldn’t be too much for you, but Nathalie reminded me that akumas used to make you very frightened. I apologize if that is still the case.”
That was unexpected. It seemed like everyone was acting weird today.
“It’s okay, M. Agreste,” Marinette said. “Seeing the battle first-hand helped me to understand what’s really going on in them, and knowing that it’s you behind Hawk Moth’s mask... I’m not all that afraid anymore. I just wish there was something I could do to help you and Nathalie get the Miraculous.”
The corner of M. Agreste’s lips moved upwards. “Good,” he said in a pleased tone. “I am happy to hear that. As I said yesterday, there are times when I, too, wish there was someone else to help fight, but the fact of the matter is that it’s far too dangerous for anyone to risk themself like that.”
That was the catch, wasn’t it? But still, “What if it wasn’t?”
Marinette’s heart pounded loudly as M. Agreste considered her words. His eyebrows were slightly raised, and he seemed confused, but there was a slight glint in his eyes like he was excited.
“What do you mean?”
“W-well, the Peacock brooch is broken, but it’s only affected people who used it to make something— someone with it! What if that’s the difference, and it’s still safe to use as long as you don’t make a magic kid—”
“A sentimonster,” M. Agreste interrupted. “That is the correct term.”
Marinette’s eyebrows wrinkled. “Really? That’s terrible; we should change that. Anyway,” she said, waving her hands as her nerves spiked, “I wore the brooch for a while, and even if I needed medicine afterwards, we have medicine for it. Like, do we even know for a fact that with it, anything serious would happen to me? It’s not like Emilie knew to take a pill every day back when she made Adrien, right?”
“She did not,” M. Agreste confirmed, looking almost amused as Marinette started pacing back and forth in front of his door while her rant continued.
“Right! So theoretically, I could wear the brooch every day and be fine as long as I took meds for the effects. What about transforming? Does the medicine still work against those effects?”
“Well, since they are the same effects, only heightened... Yes, it would.”
Marinette brought a fist down on her open palm. “Right! Cool, that sets my mind at ease somewhat. Um. So, since we’ve made progress medically — medicinally — uh, I was thinking — you need some help, and the Guardian doesn’t like Adrien — gah!”
Why couldn’t Marinette’s thoughts ever make sense once they wandered into her mouth?
As M. Agreste looked down at her expectantly, she took a deep breath and started again. “What if I became the new Peacock holder? And helped you get the Miraculous?”
A surprised noise came from M. Agreste’s throat. “You, the new Peacock? Marinette, that’s a dangerous, dangerous idea! The brooch is broken, you know that! Even if the medicine helps, it might not save you from the worst effects of the Miraculous. What you propose would have you risking almost certain death!”
“Only if we fail,” Marinette said, her voice surprisingly steady for once. “And if I don’t make any sentis, wouldn’t I avoid the worst effects anyway? Of course, it’s a risky plan. But what plan isn’t? I’ve already risked a lot by studying fashion, and see how well it’s worked out! With a second fighter and a bit of luck, I think we can win this struggle. What about you, M. Agreste? Do you have the courage to do what’s necessary to save your wife and son, or will you lose your chance by choosing not to trust me?”
He was definitely surprised, but as Marinette watched M. Agreste hopefully, she dared to hope that he was slightly impressed by her speech. He’d cocked one of his eyebrows, and there was a slight lift to his lips as he regarded her.
“Well said, Marinette! I could hardly make a better argument myself. But you are aware it’s more than just your health we are risking, no? If you should fail in your mission, are you willing to see Adrien pay the price?” He advanced towards Marinette, the light from his room casting his long shadow over her as he spoke. “How far are you willing to go in this fight, Miss Dupain-Cheng? Just as I’d never hire a skilless designer, I would never pick an ally who can’t fight, who could cost us the entire battle through one misstep. You asked me to trust you. Are you positive that I can?”
Marinette swallowed, drawing herself up as she stood firm. “I am. I would never do anything to risk Adrien’s well-being, much less the world’s. For a cause like this, I would never back down or change my mind. I might not be a skilled fighter, sir, but you can count on me to try my best. Only... if something happens to me because we’re wrong, will you tell Adrien what happened? It’s not fair to keep him in the dark so long.”
Gabriel’s face softened as he lightly touched the brooch under his ascot. “Of course, Marinette. I’ll make sure he knows about your devotion to the cause. Now, we’re both willing to have you join the fight. But even so, we face a good many obstacles. Nathalie, for example. I don’t think she would go along with our plan.”
Marinette’s mouth went dry. “What? She doesn’t think I’d make a good fighter, does she? It’s all the time I spent panicking in her class over akumas, isn’t it?” she chuckled. “I wish I would’ve known better.”
“It’s nothing you can fix now, Marinette,” M. Agreste said kindly. “She knows I’m looking for a potential ally, but since you’ve already been injured by the Peacock, I do not think she would allow us to move forward with the plan if she knew what further damage you were risking. She means well,” he sighed, “But her heart is just too tender for this situation. Losing a pupil of hers... I’m sure you can understand why she feels uncomfortable with the thought of you on the battlefield. Never mind that you’ve already proved yourself in the fight with Evillustrator.”
Marinette felt an odd surge of pride as she remembered the fight. She’d been on the wrong side that day, but she’d still earned M. Agreste’s respect!
“Now, I know you aren’t a trained fighter, but I can help you in that regard. Fencing is something of a family tradition, and I know a thing or two about martial arts as well. But we can’t let Nathalie know...” Gabriel snapped his fingers. “I know! We’ll lengthen your apprenticeship hours, and you can practice then. And if you’re willing to take some time out of lunch break, like today, we can fit in even more time, either for akumas or training, depending on the day. Does that sound good?”
Marinette’s fingers trembled slightly in nervous excitement. “I think so,” she responded. “So, you’re okay with me being the Peacock then? You’ll let me fight in battles and help convince Golden Bug and Chat Grise to hand over their Miraculous?” You’ll trust me with your son, with the health of your wife?
An old wrinkle line showed as M. Agreste smiled. “Of course,” he purred. “You’ve shown yourself to be very dependable, Marinette. I’d be proud to work with you.”
Marinette took a deep breath and let it out in a relieved sigh. “Me too,” she said. “When do I start? Is there anything I need to know before the next battle?”
M. Agreste tilted his head in a nod. “Not as much as if you were creating... sentis, but yes, there is. You’ll need to know the transformation phrase, how to use your fan, and get used to the suit before joining me in a battle. You should begin today, after... well, how much time is left before lunch is over?”
Pulling out her phone, Marinette checked it and answered, “Fifteen minutes.”
“Hm. Not much time, but it should be just enough for the first lesson. Head to the atelier and take the elevator to the attic. I will meet you there.”
Marinette blinked. She hadn’t really expected M. Agreste to take her idea this soon, but she guessed it was for the best!
“Okay,” she said as Gabriel turned back to his room and closed the door.
It was an uneventful trip up to the attic, much like any other trip, but with the uniquely wealthy element of an elevator to make the trip shorter.
With nothing to do while she waited, Marinette walked over to the large butterfly window, sniffing and rubbing her nose with one hand. Apparently, the attic didn’t get dusted often enough.
She was going to be a Miraculous holder. Responsible for the fate of the entire world, along with the other holders, not all of whom seemed to be aware of that responsibility. Golden Bug, for example — he hadn’t lost a fight yet, but his cheerful, punster attitude seemed unsuited for the gravity of his role. Did he not care about what could happen if his Miraculous was abused? Was he abusing it, himself?
If he knew the truth about Adrien, would he see him as any more than a glorified toy, or worse, a monster, like the sentis had apparently been dubbed for some time?
Marinette made a pact with herself. She would not abuse her power, either by using it or failing to. She would not create any sentis — even ignoring the fact that doing so might kill her, it didn’t seem right to her that life could be made and disregarded so easily. She would never want to be responsible for someone’s whole existence or as completely in control of them as the sentis’ parents were.
She didn’t want to be the Peacock holder. But she also didn’t have a choice. This was the only way to keep Adrien safe, to right the wrongs of the past before they hurt more people.
As Gabriel stepped out of the elevator and walked up behind her with the broken brooch in his hand, Marinette promised herself that she would take up this mission, and she wouldn’t give up until she’d made sure that Adrien would be all right, that everyone who was dead would come back, and that no one would be hurt by the Miraculous again.
“Here. Once Duusu comes out of the brooch, you can transform using this phrase — ‘Duusu, spread my feathers.’ That will be your first step.”
Marinette took the brooch from Gabriel, glancing at its flawed beauty for a moment before pinning it to the center of her shirt. The same blue kwami she’d met before came spiraling out of it, shaking themself excitedly as they looked up at her.
This was it. This was her last chance to back out of the mission and leave the responsibility to someone else.
But she already knew she would never do that. There was only one path laid out at her feet, one fate hidden in the mists of the future. And Marinette was ready to face it, whatever it was.
“Duusu,” she said in a solemn tone as M. Agreste watched from the side, “Spread my feathers.”
The electric sensation of magic rushed over her, and Marinette transformed.

Scarlet Lady: Anansi
Directory | Sapotis
Today was one of those rare days where Adrien could get out of home, and since it was Spring Break, they had decided to enjoy it by doing something fun.
And, as they made time before they went out for the fireworks, they were having fun playing videogames – like the dancing game Alya and Nino were starting right now.
“It's amazing you were able to come,” Marinette said as the music began to sound out. “Did your dad make a fuss?”
“Oh, he definitely objected at first,” Adrien said, smiling.
----
“Adrien, I forbid you from going out tonight. It's too dangerous,” Gabriel Agreste said, and Adrien smirked.
“Ah, Père. I thought you might say that,” he replied, turning to the bottles he had carefully prepared for this precise occasion. “Sidebar, have you seen my collection of hair dye?”
Gabriel looked, and Adrien's smirk grew as the man broke out into a sweat.
“I forget, what's your favorite color, père? I'm partial to pink.”
“Mon Dieu,” Gabriel muttered.
----
As Marinette giggled from Adrien's story, the song Nino and Alya had been dancing to was ending, and Nino decided to end on a high note.
“Big finish!” he said, and he made a ballet pose, causing the others to laugh.
“What is that?!” Adrien said before he also broke down laughing.
“Aw, shoot, did I miss the ballet?”
“Nora!” Alya said, turning to her elder sister, who was still wearing her fighting gear, all marked with the symbol of a spider in a circle. “Is your match over already?”
“First round: total knock out,” Nora said, hopping around. “Aaaas usual.”
“I'm sure that was fun to watch,” Alya replied, feeling bad for the people that had paid to see the fight.
“And I told you not to call me Nora in front of other people, p'tite sœur!” Nora admonished her.
“That's so laaaame.”
Nora turned to the others in the room.
“Name's Anansi, like the spider,” she said, pointing at the symbol on her helmet.
“Oh! Like you're really tricky in the ring? Like the legends?” Nino asked, only for Nora to put a confused face.
“Nah, man, I'm like a tank in the ring.”
“How is that like Anansi or a spider...” Adrien wondered.
“Why're you all still here?” Nora said, ignoring Adrien's comment while taking off her helmet. “Isn't it a school night?”
“It's Spring Break, actually,” Marinette pointed out.
“We're gonna see the fireworks from the Place de la Concorde ferris wheel,” Alya revealed.
“What?!” Nora suddenly shouted. “No way, it's too dangerous with everyone becoming Akumas!”
“Oh, c'mon! I'm not a baby, I've been living with Akumas for seven months now!” Alya complained, glaring at her sister. “Besides, I have Mom and Dad's permission, I don't have to listen to you!”
“Forget it, you're staying home, safe and sound, period!” Nora replied, before waving at the others. “Baguette, Cappy, and Billboard Boy can go though.”
“Oh, gee, thanks,” Nino sarcastically fired back.
“C'mon, what does Billboard Boy know about self defense?” Nora asked.
“Hey! I fence!” Adrien replied, defensively.
“And Baguette can't lift more than a bag of flour!”
“Hey! They're heavy!” Hell, they could easily weigh more than twenty kilos!
“And Cappy–”
“Okay, first of all, we're not gonna stop living our lives just because Hawkmoth is a butthole,” Nino interrupted her. “Second, I'd do anything to protect Alya! And third --”
He turned to present Alya, who made a pose, as if for a magazine.
“Alya's a Queen who can take care of herself!”
Giving Nino a look, as if measuring him, and sat on the kitchen table.
“Fine! Alya can go... if you beat me at arm wrestling.”
“Huh?” Alya said, but then the four of them looked at each other, and it was obvious they had had the same brainwave.
“Well, okay,” Nino said, as they all walked up to the table.
“Fine,” Alya added.
Nora looked at them, confused (again).
“Uhh, what are you doing?” she asked.
“Come at us, scrub,” the four of them said at the same time, ready to accept the challenge, as they put together their right hands and clasped Nora's.
And the fight started.
“4-on-1 is obviously cheating!” Nora exclaimed, straining with all her strength against the four teens'.
“Hey, you challenged us!” Alya pointed out as they forced Nora's hand back.
“It's completely unfair!”
“You think Akumas care about fair?!” Adrien shouted.
“We have to do what we can to keep ourselves safe, even if it's not fair!” Marinette followed.
“As long as we have each other, we can do anything!” Nino exclaimed.
“We're not ashamed of asking for help!” Alya finished, and the four of them pushed even harder.
“THAT'S LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP, BITCH!” they shouted, and with one last mighty push, they slammed Nora's hand against the table.
----
“Hmm... if I send off this Akuma, whose grudge includes my own son, I'll be directly contributing to putting Adrien in direct danger... but that Ring and Earrings would look so sick on me, so, off you go, little Akuma!”
Yeah, a great set of priorities.
----
BOOM!
Tikki looked up as a red star exploded in the sky, followed by a green one.
“Aren't the fireworks beautiful, Chloé?” she asked her bearer.
“As if!” the girl yelled. “I could've been in New York with Mommy right now, but my whole Spring Break is ruined because I have to stay here and be Scarlet Lady! Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous!”
She paused for a moment. The rules said she could not take the Earrings from their wielder... but there was nothing about getting the wielder to give them up themselves...
“There's still time,” she innocently suggested. “You could leave the Earrings with Marigold or Chat Noir for the week!”
“ha! As if they could match my brilliance, even temporarily!” Chloé replied.
Tikki mentally snapped her fingers.
Worth a shot.
----
The sky was illuminated by the beautiful fireworks, and the four friends, who were almost at the top of the loop, were looking up, fascinated.
“Look at that!” Marinette pointed out, as three fireworks exploded at the same time to form what resembled the French flag.
“Wow!” Adrien replied. This was the first time he had been able to watch one of these from somewhere that wasn't home, and he was enjoying it so much!
Alya and Nino, hand in hand, weren't even voicing their enthusiasm, but anyone that looked at them would have seen it quite clearly on their faces.
But then the wheel jerked, and sent Adrien to the floor.
“Ah, whoa!” Adrien shouted as he fell.
“What?” Alya asked, surprised.
“Aw, man, are we stuck?!” Nino asked as well, hugging his girlfriend.
“L-Look, over there!” Marinette said, pointing at the middle of the wheel: something was pinning it in position by using what looked like long lines of silk. One wouldn't have been enough, but there were so many that their combined strength was preventing the wheel from turning.
“A... super villain?” Nino asked, as Adrien looked out.
“A spider villain,” he answered.
“Oh, you've GOT to be kidding me!” Alya yelled, incensed. “AFTER ALL THAT GRIEF, YOU BECAME AN AKUMA, YOU STUPID–”
“Alya, don't attract her over here!” Marinette said, pulling her down to avoid being seen.
Too late, though, because the spider Akuma quickly climbed up to where they were, unhooked their car and brought it down to the ground, forcing them to hold onto whatever they could find to avoid getting hurt.
“Gotcha, my little flyweights! Yoink!” the Akuma said.
“Jesus Christ, Nora!” Alya yelled as the Akuma forced the door open.
“Nora's not here to protect you anymore!” the Akuma shouted, grabbing Nino with one of her six arms.
“Ah!”
“I'm Anansi, the Super-Spider!” the Akuma continued, pulling Nino out of the car.
“Guys! Guys!” Nino begged.
“C'mon, Alya, let's see you 'take care of yourself' without your friends to help you cheat!”
“What do you–”
And then Anansi fired her webs at Adrien and Marinette, trapping them into the car.
“Ahh!”
“Aw, gross!”
With both teens blocked, Anansi began to move away, but then jumped and struck the ferris wheel right in the middle.
“NO!”
“KYA!”
“This'll slow down M. Whiskers and the bugs!” the Akuma yelled as the ferris wheel fell from its place and began to slowly roll away.
“Aw, man, aw, man!” Alya yelled. “She's getting away with Nino, but I can't just leave you guys!”
“Go ahead, Alya!” Adrien replied, starting to pull on the spider web holding his left arm.
“We'll try and catch up!” Marinette added, also pulling off the web trapping her.
“Yeah, don't lose sight of Nino!”
“Are you sure?” Alya asked. “I can wait until–”
“IT'S FINE, PLEASE GO!” both of them yelled at her, intent on getting her away while they transformed.
“Uh, if you say so...” Alya replied, confused, before she did as bid and began to run after her Akumatized sister and her boyfriend.
Marinette and Adrien quickly began to pull on the silk threads, and while it was still sticky, they were able to get rid of it fast enough that it only took a couple of minutes before they were free.
“Ah, you know, I did promise Chat Noir I'd stay out of Akuma fights, so, I–I'll try to flag down a hero instead, yeah?” Marinette suggested, while rolling up the silk: if this thing survived the Miraculous Cure, perhaps she could try to use it as a material?
“G–Good idea! I'll uh, try to catch up with Alya and Nino! See ya!” Adrien replied, and both teens bolted to hide behind the closest alley.
----
“KYAAA!”
“RUN!”
“What's that about? So noisy,” Chloé complained.
“Chloé, it might be an Akuma!” Tikki suggested.
“No way, you don't know that,” the girl replied, but then Tikki looked at the street and her face turned to shock.
“C-Chloé! Look out!”
Chloé looked – and became shocked as well as she saw a loose ferris wheel rolling towards her!
“The ferris wheel!” she pointed out. Tikki could – just barely – see Sabrina, Lila, and someone that was probably Lila's mother holding onto each other, scared.
“It's going to crash into your dad's hotel!”
“And more importantly, my room! Spots On!”
“Ugh–” Tikki didn't even have the time to voice her insatisfaction as she became absorbed into the Earrings.
----
“Dammit, Nora, get your own boyfriend!” Alya shouted, seeing Nino hanging from a web that Anansi had crafted all over the Arc de Triomphe.
“Hey, babe,” she heard Nino say.
“Anansi, p'tite sœur! Now take a hike!”
“Wha–”
Alya didn't have the time to react before Anansi smacked her, sending her flying.
“Oh you bi–”
“Alya!”
A string suddenly coiled itself around her waist and pulled her to safety in Marigold's arms.
“Are you okay?!” the heroine asked with great worry.
“Yeah, thanks...”
“Hmph!” Scarlet Lady grumbled. “Leave this to the Hero of Paris, reporter gir–”
Then she actually saw the day's Akuma for the first time.
“Hey, little beetle!” the Akuma said with a grin.
“EEP! SPIDER LADY! LUCKY CHARM, LUCKY CHARM, LUCKY CHARM!”
As Chat Noir finally arrived, Marigold immediately started to go into planning mode.
“Okay, I'll run a distraction, Chat Noir will go for the hostage, and Scarlet Lady–”
“Welp, here you go Marimo– uh, Marigold,” Scarlet quickly interrupted, handing her the Lucky Charm while her Earrings began to beep, “good luck with that, I gotta, you know, recharge and stuff.”
“And then you'll come back, right?”
“Oh, I can't hear you, gotta turn back, byeeeee!” Scarlet said as she turned to run.
“And then you'll come back, right!?” Marigold yelled at the retreating back of the polka-dotted girl.
----
Unfortunately, the plan soon run into a snag.
“Uh, Honey Bee? I'm in a bit of a sticky situation,” Chat Noir asked, stuck to Anansi's web, as he looked down at the laughing Akuma. “That's some nightmare fuel right there.”
“Chat Noir!” Marigold yelled, still holding the Lucky Charm. “I have to make a trip, but I can't leave Chat defenseless! Lord knows I can't count on Scarlet!”
Alya looked down at the baton Chat Noir had dropped after getting trapped... and decided it was time to act.
“I'll do it.”
“Huh?!”
“I'll distract Anansi until you get back.”
“Are you sure?” Marigold asked. This was her elder sister, after all...
“No problem! I can even get back at my sister!” It didn't look like she minded, though. “For the greater good, of course.”
“Of course,” Marigold replied, a bit shocked.
----
Fortunately, using her top and the roofs allowed her to reach her destination, and after transforming back into her civilian self, she ran for her destination.
“Master Fu!” she said as she entered the parlor. “Chat Noir's about to lose his Ring, Scarlet Lady bailed, and I had to leave my best friend to hold off the Akuma!”
“Yikes!” the elder said, springing to his feet. “We have to take action!”
He picked up the Miraculous Box from its hideaway.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng, pick an ally who can–”
“I'mma stop you right there cuz I need your Miraculous, Master!”
Fu had a brief look of shock, but nodded as he understood her intentions.
“Do you have someone in mind, Marinette?”
“I know the perfect person,” she replied, before turning to the Kwami of Protection with a n awkward gaze. “I hope you like interviews, Wayzz.”
“What's an interview?”
----
“Not so easy on your own, is it, Alya?” Anansi mocked her sister, who was huffing from the effort of keeping her at bay.
“It's easier when my opponent's so slow!” Alya yelled as she triggered the baton, hitting Anansi with the end of it.
“Ow! Why, you little–”
Anansi attempted to punch Alya with her three left fists, but before she could do that a thread coiled around the girl's waist once more, pulling her away.
“Alya!”
Marigold quickly pulled her away to somewhere where Anansi would be unable to see them.
“Did you see, did you see?! I got her good!” Alya cheered up.
“Uh, yes, I'm very proud,” Marigold replied.
While they were distracted, though, Anansi went back to her original target, the Cat Hero.
“It's just you and me, kitty-cat,” the Akuma said, grabbing his left arm with one hand, ready to steal the ring from him.
“You, me, and Cataclysm!” the hero replied, sticking his tongue at Anansi.
“And now we're pressed for time,” Marigold said, watching the events from below. “Do you still want to help your boyfriend?”
“Of course!” Alya exclaimed. “I'd do anything for Nino!”
Marigold pulled the ornate wooden box she had brought from Master Fu's.
“Alya Césaire, this is the Turtle Miraculous, which grants the power of Protection. You will use it for the greater good–”
Alya grabbed Marigold by the shoulders and began to shake her back and forth.
“Are you serious, this is a total dream come true AHHHHHH!”
“L-Let me finish!” Marigold complained.
----
After letting her finish, Alya picked the box and opened it, revealing a green bracelet and, with a flash of green, a small, floating turtle-like creature.
“Whoa, what's this thing?!” Alya asked.
“The word you're looking for is 'Kwami'. My name is Wayzz,” the Kwami of Protection replied.
“A Kwami? You're what gives superheroes their powers, aren't you?” she asked, and Wayzz nodded.
“My, Marigold wasn't kidding about how bright you are!”
“No way, you talk about me?!” Alya exclaimed again, and Wayzz held his laugh at seeing Marigold's embarrassed face.
“H-Hurry up and transform!” she shouted.
“Eeeee! Okay, okay! Wayzz, SHELL ON!”
----
When the flash of light ended, the new heroine looked down at her costume, admiring everything.
“This is soooo cool!” she said, before turning back to Marigold. “Hey, where do you get Miraculouses?! How many are–”
“Focus!” Marigold interrupted the deluge of questions. “We have to save Nino before Chat Noir turns back! But first we need to locate our fearless leader.”
While the Turtle Heroine took the time to feel her new features – including her very fluffy hair – Marigold called Scarlet Lady on her top-phone.
Then the melody of Scarlet Lady's yo-yo began to ring right behind her.
“Of course,” she grumbled, irritated.
“Have you finished off the spider lady yet?” Scarlet Lady asked.
“Obviously not,” Marigold fired back.
“Well, hurry up!” Scarlet Lady ordered. “And who's she?!”
Our hero, the new heroine sarcastically thought.
Scarlet Lady ignored her and turned to Marigold.
“Uh, nice to meet you?” she asked, feeling awkward.
“Of course it is,” Scarlet Lady mumbled. “Bumbling bee! Where are you getting these Miraculouses, huh?!”
“As if I'd tell you,” Marigold said, dismissively.
“Scarlet Lady doesn't know where the Miraculouses come from but you do?” the Turtle Heroine asked, confused.
“Chat Noir too. Off the record.”
She wasn't sure of the reason, but she needed to ask.
“Why?”
Marigold gave her an 'Are you kidding me?' look.
“She can't be trusted with anything,” she replied, pointing at Scarlet Lady, “let alone secrets of that magnitude.”
“HEY!” Scarlet Lady yelled.
Nobody cared.
I'm starting to see that, she thought.
“How dare you–”
“Just use Lucky Charm already!” Marigold shouted, irritated.
----
This time, the object was a pair of boxing gloves, which Scarlet Lady immediately handed to Marigold.
“Here, go deal with the Akuma, worker bee,” she said, while Marigold just looked like she was done.
“Whu–?! You're not coming?!” the Turtle Heroine asked, shocked.
“Please, that's grunt work,” Scarlet Lady replied with a smug look. “Better get used to it, turtle head. That's your spot in the pecking order while I call the shots.”
“Please, you don't 'call' anything,” Marigold said, rolling her eyes.
Scarlet Lady ignored her.
“So, what dumb little name have you cooked up for yourself?”
She thought it over, and came up with the perfect combination.
“Koki Marina.”
“Hm, there's gotta be some way to make an insult out of it,” Scarlet Lady said, closing her eyes. “Give me time.”
And, with those words, the last remains of her respect for the 'heroine' completely vanished.
I'm going to write such an article about you!
----
Leaving the lazy girl behind them, Marigold and Koki Marina charged towards the Arc de Triomphe, ready to stop the Akuma before Chat Noir transformed back into his civilian identity.
“Hey Anansi!” Marigold yelled.
“Come at me, scrub!” Koki Marina challenged.
“Ooo, a new challenger?” the Akuma asked.
Immediately, Koki Marina began to attack the Akuma with a speed that was unlike what she was meant to represent, while Marigold began to extend her cord around the monument.
“Ugh!”
“Nyah, nyah!”
“This isn't kick boxing!” the Akuma complained.
“Anansi!” Marigold shouted, putting on the gloves. “One round! You win, you get our Miraculouses! I win, you release your prisoners!”
“Huh?” the Akuma asked, shocked.
“Pay attention, I challenge you!”
“Eeeeeeeeee...”
“Or, uh, Koki Marina challenges you,” she lamely added, as her cheer increased.
“EEEE!”
Marigold handed the gloves to Koki Marina, who got ready for the fight.
And began by dodging a punch that struck one of the Arc's pillars.
“Made ya look!” she taunted the Akuma.
“Nyah!”
“Over here!” she said over the next punch, which also hit another pillar.
“SHUT UP!”
“Too slow!” Koki Marina yelled as another attack hit another pillar.
“Hold STILL!”
And so they went for a minute, before Koki Marina noticed the small rocks starting to fall.
“Quit hiding in your shell, and fight back!” Anansi demanded, ignorant of what was about to come.
“Okay~” Koki Marina replied, leaning on the cord and pulling.
The Arc de Triomphe began to crumble down, and Anansi realized too late that she had fallen into a trap.
“Uhh–”
Marigold quickly pulled the hostages down and near Koki Marina, who used her ultimate technique.
“Shellter!”
A sphere of green hexagons surrounded the group, which was left safe as the monument fell to pieces around and above them, while the Akuma was not so lucky and got trapped.
The moment the Shellter was brought down, Chat Noir – just running out of time with his Cataclysm – and Marigold split off, while Koki Marina checked on Nino.
“You okay?” she asked.
“Y-Yeah,” he answered.
“Glad to hear it, handsome,” she said, grinning, in a flirty tone.
“Oh! Uh –” Nino floundered, while behind them Marigold had grabbed Chat Noir and got ready to throw him as if she were throwing a javelin.
“Ultimate Chat Noir Technique! Aim for the helmet!” the Cat Hero said, and Marigold shot him at the Akuma, finally destroying the object and freeing the corrupting butterfly.
“I, like, have a girlfriend?” Nino continued, flushing, and scratching the back of his head. “I mean, I'm flattered! But she's kind of the most amazing person ever, so–”
Koki Marina smiled, holding onto the instinct to laugh or thank Nino for his kind words towards her civilian self, and nodded.
“M-hm.”
Then Nino pulled out his cellphone.
“Do you mind being recorded for the Ladyblog?”
“Ooo, can I?!” Koki Marina asked Marigold, who just huffed in amusement.
“Keep it brief.”
While Nino filmed the new heroine, another person approached the group.
“Hellooo, the real hero is over here!” Scarlet Lady yelled, pointing at herself.
“I don't remember you trying to save me,” Nino deadpanned, wisely choosing to ignore her.
Paris' real heroes watched in happiness and a bit of amusement.
“Good pick, Goldie,” Chat Noir encouraged.
“I only surround myself with the best.” Then she felt a bit awkward. “Now I just gotta stop her from spilling all the Turtle's secrets.”
“See, it detaches!” Koki Marina said, posing for Nino's video. “I can put it on my arm and back!”
----
Finally pulling Koki Marina away – which was easy, as her bracelet was beeping – Marigold took her to an alley and had the girl return to her civilian form, ready to recover the Miraculous.
“Aww, you're taking my baby?” Alya pouted, holding Wayzz protectively in her hands.
“Don't make me regret you,” Marigold countered, and Alya let go with a sigh.
“Ah, just kidding. Part of me wants to make a fuss but I don't want to be as untrustworthy as Scarlet Lady.” She shook her head. “My poor blog needs a total rehaul.”
“Alya, your blog is a huge source of information,” Wayzz wisely pointed out. “I'm sure you could use that information for something good!”
Alya gasped.
“Like finding Hawkmoth!” she said, grabbing Wayzz again and rubbing her cheek against his. “Wayzz, you genius! Are you sure I can't keep you?!”
“No! Stop bonding RIGHT NOW!”
----
With everything back to normal, Marinette and Adrien managed to return from their hero selves and tracked down their friends, who were now being chaperoned by Nora.
“Hey! Is everyone okay?” Marinette asked.
“Woe is me!” Nino dramatically replied. “After all the power of friendship talk, only Alya came to save me!”
“Aw, geez,” Adrien complained.
“Relax, I'm just messing with you,” Nino said with a wink as he pulled his cellphone. “Alya, check this out, there was a new hero and I got footage for you–”
“Oh Nino that's soooo SWEET!” Alya shouted, jumping into her boyfriend's embrace and starting to kiss him.
“MMPH!” Nino said, not knowing whether to pull her closer or push her away, because... “A-Alya, Nora's watching, like, really watching!”
Given the 'overprotective sibling' glare he was getting targeted with, he had a reason to be wary.
As soon as Alya let her boyfriend go, Nora turned bashful for a moment.
“Hey, uh, sorry for losing my cool over the match,” she apologized. “I mean, even superheroes don't work alone! Why should you have to?”
Marinette and Adrien shared a look, and the teens let the fighter bring them into a hug.
“Hey, no big deal, right Anansi?” Adrien said.
“Hey, let's invite Nora to ice skate with us!” Nino suggested, and Alya nodded.
“Yeah I can't remember the last time we hung out!”
Nora pulled them closer.
“I'm gonna skate circles around you,” she said.
The teens wondered if they were going to have to deal with the same thing again.
“It's not a competition,” Nino pointed out.
----
After some time skating, everyone went back to their homes, and Alya checked her phone for the video Nino had made of her heroine self.
“Thanks so much for the footage, mon cœur!” she told Nino. “I've got a few things to finish up, try not to stay up too late! Night.”
And she hung up her phone.
Her two projects were on her table.
The first, a list of all the Akuma fights that had taken place since Stoneheart, and what Scarlet Lady had been actually seen doing during them.
The green, for the times she had actually helped, were a minority.
Most of them were purple, after what she presumed was Hawkmoth's color.
Every time she was heard insulting someone (usually Chat Noir or Marigold), it was blue.
Yellow was reserved for whenever someone new did more work than Scarlet Lady.
If she was late (which was quite common), the orange sticker let her find it.
And, finally, in deep red, the times where Scarlet Lady hadn't even bothered to show up.
The second project was a map.
She pulled a string and pinpointed the place and time where the latest Akuma had happened.
“Alright,” she said, tying the string to the tack on her home. “Where are you, motherfucker...”
She had not done much as of yet... but from now on, the hunt for Hawkmoth was ON.

"I still just can't believe I did it... Plagg, I... I Cataclysmed someone!"
"You Cataclysmed Monarch. Of all the people to Cataclysm, that's probably the best option."
"It's not about who, Plagg, it's... I used the power of destruction on a human! A living, breathing person."
"Adrien, don't worry about it, it's not your fault. He literally did it to himself. And besides, he was transformed, it's fine. Nothing can destroy those suits."
"How do you know that for sure? A Cataclysm can destroy a miraculous."
"Kid, you literally fought an akuma yesterday. Monarch's clearly still kicking."
"What if it's slow? What if it injured him, and it's gradually eating away at him? What if every day, he gets weaker, and starts having trouble walking, and can barely get out of bed and then- And then-"
Plagg sits on Adrien's shoulder, looking up at him with an unusually serious expression. "Adrien. Calm down. It wasn't your fault. Enough with the what ifs, okay?"
"... Yeah. Yeah, you're right. It's just... Sometimes I wish I had a power other than destruction. I can't stand the idea of... ending someone's life. If that Cataclysm kills him..."
"Good riddance."
"Plagg!"
"Look, Adrien, I don't blame you for how you feel. It's human nature to care about others, and that relentless kindness of yours is why I love you as my holder. But you gotta know when to throw out bad cheese, and Monarch? He's so stinky even I'D throw him right in the bin, given the chance."
"That's awful! Even if he's a villain, he's still a person!"
Plagg sighs. "Sorry kid. Just like it's your nature to care too much for your own good, it's my nature to see a problem and want to just get rid of it. But hey, that's why you're the hero. You're Chat Noir, so I trust you to call the shots."
Adrien flops down onto his bed. "Can we just... stop talking about superhero stuff for a while? I don't want to think about this anymore."
"Sounds good to me!" Plagg grabs a magazine from the ground. "I've been waiting to tell you about this new restaurant-"
"I don't want to talk about cheese either."
Plagg sighs dramatically. "I suppose no holder is perfect. Well, I can't stop thinking about cheese now, so I'll spare you my poetry and just grab a snack, 'kay?"
"Thanks. Don't get seen."
"Psh, of course I won't! Careful is my middle name."
Plagg flies through the Agreste mansion, passing through walls and occasionally checking for humans before entering a room. But as he enters the kitchen, he finds Adrien's dad on the phone with Nathalie or that Tsurugi woman or someone. Plagg was about to phase into the cupboard and grab a snack, but he freezes as he hears Gabe say "akuma candidates."
Suddenly paying attention, Plagg starts eavesdropping.
"That's why we need to increase production on Alliance rings, immediately. Marketing, shipping, everyone needs to be wearing an Alliance. The akuma of a lifetime could have the worst day of their life, but if they aren't wearing an Alliance, they'll have no miraculous power, and they'll stand no chance against Ladybug and Chat Noir!"
Plagg didn't understand most of what he was hearing, something about those rings Gabe keeps trying to make Adrien wear? But it sure sounds like Gabe is trying to... help the akumas? Is he working with Monarch?!
"... No, I don't have time to be patient! Look at this!" Gabe pulls up his sleeve, and reveals a black burn spreading across his arm. "If I wait for a chance, this Cataclysm will kill me. I need to make the wish soon."
Holy shit Adrien's dad is Monarch.
"... I don't care, make the rings out of plastic with dollar store microphones if you have to!"
Holy shit. Monarch is right in front of Plagg.
"This isn't about business, the only thing that matters is getting the ladybug and black-" Gabe, in his frantic back and forth pacing, finally turns toward Plagg.
The two stare each other down from across the kitchen.
All is silent, except for the confused sounds of the woman on the phone.
Finally, they both snap out of it.
"Nooroodarkwings-"
"Nadja Chamack here with breaking news! I'm at the home of Gabriel Agreste, where half of the mansion appears to have spontaneously disintegrated! Gabriel Agreste is currently missing, though Adrien Agreste and his bodyguard, as well as Nathalie Sancoeur, are unharmed and currently being questioned by the police. There has not yet been an akuma sighting, so we do not know the source of- Wait, there appears to be a small... er, creature, in the missing part of the mansion! Excuse me, do you have any information on this sudden event?
"... Huh? Wait, is he really not showing up on the camera? W-well, regardless, Mr... Plagg? Mr. Plagg, do you know what has happened to Gabriel Agreste?
"... Bad... cheese?"

Calm before the storm
-------
It was late, he should be resting. Yet his mind refused to let go of that moment, back on that boat.
Sighing, Gabriel got up and made his way to the kitchen, hoping some tea would help.
It was quiet as always in the mansion but the chill of the autumn night air somehow always managed to make it worse.
It took him some time to find the kettle for the water, but he didn't mind it, it wasn't like anybody was watching him fumble with the cabinet doors for the past while.
"Sir?"
Or perhaps someone was watching that he'd rather not be watching him right now
"Oh, morning Nathalie. Is there something you need?"
"Gabriel Agreste, It's twelve thirty in the morning, you're only up this late when you're distressed about something or Nooroo requires feeding, and I don't see Nooroo out right now."
"It's nothin-"
"Gabriel."
He lets out a short sigh while he lets his head hang for a moment, before he looks back at Nathalie. "I'm not getting out of this one, am I?"
"Not this time sir. Besides-" Nathalie said, as she began to reach for one of the cupboards. "I've rather missed our old tea talks." She finished as she pulled out two mugs, and looked back at Gabe with a small smile on her face.
Gabe couldn't help but give a slight smile of his own. He had missed those little moments when it was the three of them.
Soon they would all be back together again, but for tonight,
maybe,
just maybe,
it was okay for it to just be the two of them.
Oh it's sweet but I am in suspense.

Chapter 3: Come With Me
🫐
"Claws off."
A flash of green lit up Adrien's room and the small cat kwami floated in front of the blonde's face.
Plagg squinted his eyes and grew a devilish smile. Adrien handed him a piece of cheese and looked at him confused.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"You like her."
Adrien quickly broke eye contact and walked towards his bed.
"Like who?"
"The diner girl. Who else?" Plagg responded through a mouth full of cheese.
"What? The diner girl? Pft. N-no I don’t. It's not like she has...a beautiful smile. Or sparkling eyes. Or a talent for designing that rivals my father."
Adrien laughed and face planted onto his bed.
Plagg rolled his eyes and flew over to lay on the pillow above his holder's head.
"You've met her twice now and you've got it this bad already?"
Adrien didn't raise his head to talk.
"There's something about her, Plagg. I can't place it. She just feels, right. I want to go back again."
The tiny cat rolled onto his stomach, trying to catch a glimpse of Adrien's eye.
"Why don't you just ask her on a date? That way she's not stuck at work every time you're around her."
Rolling his head, he came face to face with his kwami.
"Do you think she'd go for it?"
"Why not? You're Chat Noir! Who would turn that down?"
"Yeah, you're right. I'm just nervous, I guess. I haven't felt like this since, well, you know."
"Yeah, buddy. But this diner girl seems super cool! Go for it. Worst case scenario you just never get pie from there again."
Adrien groaned and put his face back into his bedding.
---
"Tikki, I can't believe he saw my drawing of Adrien."
Marinette's bag hit the floor of her living room with a thud. She slumped onto her couch, staring at the ceiling with wide eyes as she processed what just happened.
"That was so embarrassing, I feel like I'm gonna vomit. Chat Noir really just looked at my designs and my fanart. What the hell."
Tikki giggled and found a plate of cookies on the kitchen counter.
"It wasn't that bad. It's not like he made fun of you or anything."
Marinette rubbed her eyes and face.
"Do you think it's a bad idea that I talked about my civilian life?"
Tikki flew to give Marinette a cookie.
"I don’t think so. It's not like he's gonna find out that you're Ladybug by seeing your designs."
Mari took a bite and hummed.
"Maybe I should be a little more closed off. He's just so easy to talk to."
"Of course he is, you're partners."
"Yeah, well let's keep it that way. We've made it this far. We can go forever without knowing each others identities." She looked at Tikki. "Right?"
Tikki didn't give her a very confident look.
"Sure?"
Mari groaned loudly and hugged one of her couch pillows.
---
Chat didn't go to the diner for two days. Two whole days! He felt like he was dying inside. The past two nights they had been fighting akumas and he was so tired. Like, barely managed to detransform before he passed out tired. While he wasn't fighting a giant pigeon man, he was spending all day bouncing between photo shoots, the gym, meetings with his team, and scheduled outings. Fall was a busy season for the Agreste brand.
Needless to say, todays patrol was filled with yawns.
"Am I boring you, Kitty?"
Chat perked up and attempted to rub the tired from his eyes. He gave Ladybug a quick smile.
"Not at all, my Lady. Just a little beat down. Civilian life is kinda throwing me through the ringer this wee-"
"Chaaaaat. You know better."
He did know better. But he has no one else to talk to. He hated Ladybug not knowing his identity. She's such a stickler for rules. So what if they keep each other safe? Shouldn't partners know about each other? He doesn't even know her favorite color.
"Ladybug, what's your favorite color?"
She looked at him confused.
"Why do you ask?"
"No reason."
She thought about it for a moment.
"I don’t think that's a good idea, Kitty."
He sighed and stretched back onto the roof.
Figures.
The second ladybug gave him the all clear that patrol was over he rushed to DC's diner. There was an older couple that was still inside, so he waited on the roof across the street for everyone to clear out. There was a couple waitresses cleaning inside, but none of them were Marinette. Just a couple blondes and one girl with curly hair and glasses. He waited and waited, but didn't see his diner girl.
Eventually, he saw the girl with glasses pack up the pies from the pie wall and put them in containers. She put the containers in a large box and took it towards a hallway in the back of the diner. Chat jumped to the roof of DC's and followed to the back of the restaurant. In the alley sat a pink electric scooter, and a woman sitting on the seat. She had a matching pink helmet on, but he recognized her. The curly hair girl came out and they fastened the box onto the frame at the back of her bike. Chat pulled a paper from his bell. The address to the community center wasn't too far. Just a couple minutes by roof.
Marinette took off and so did Chat. He chased her on the rooftops and hung back until she parked her bike. He soared off the roof and landed next to her, causing her to let out a small yelp.
"Chat Noir! You have got to stop scaring me!"
He just laughed and Marinette rolled her eyes. She started to unhook the bungie cords from the box.
"Need a paw?"
She smiled.
"Might as well make yourself useful. Go for it, kitty cat."
He picked up the box, careful not to jostle the contents.
Marinette took off her helmet and placed it on the seat of her bike. Her hands attempted to comb through her long hair that had been blown wild by the wind. She looked so much different with her hair down. He couldn't take his eyes off of her.
"Beautiful."
"What?"
"Huh?"
"I thought you said something."
"I said, uh, beetle! I thought I saw one crawling over there. It's nothing. You ready to go inside?"
She chuckled at him and nodded. They walked into the community center and Chat was amazed. It was a large room filled with people, lines of tables filling the room, and food everywhere. Marinette moved like she knew where she was going, so he just followed her. She cut through the crowd, nearly everyone saying hello to her as they passed. The made it to an empty table, and she instructed him to place the box down. She swiftly started filling the table with the pies her coworker packed, and Chat stood next to her feeling a little awkward.
"So, this place is pretty cool. You do this every night?"
"Just about. Sometimes my parents come, and sometimes it's my friend Alya that works with me. But most of the time it's me. I'm pretty familiar with everyone here."
"I could tell. I don't even know if anyone noticed me. That's a first," he chuckled.
She finished with her setup and set aside the large box.
"I'm sure it was, hero."
Marinette shot him a smile and informed him all about the community center. She told him about how the mayor had set it up after she was elected, and over two dozen local businesses rotate bringing food every day. They handed out pies until they were gone, and the moon was high in the sky. Chat didn't talk much, which was another first for him. Kids were excited to see him which made him smile. His favorite part of the night, though, was just watching Marinette work. She seemed to care about these people so much. She was so kind. Soft. Like... no. They were different. He had to get that out of his head. He studied her. Beautiful blue eyes. Radiant smile. Long, dark hair. Rosy cheeks. A black sweater that looked so comfy. A- a green paw print embroidered over her heart? No way.
"Are you wearing Chat Noir merch?"
She froze in place.
"Uhhhhhh, no."
He grinned at her, trying to twist her to get a better look. She squirmed out of his hands and slapped a hand on her chest.
"I-it's just a black sweater! See? Nothing weird about it!"
He could see her blushing. He chuckled and took a step forward. She avoided his gaze but let him peel her hand away. A small embroidered paw print, and tiny hearts on the neckline and sleeves. He'd been so caught up with how beautiful she looked that he didn't even think to look at her clothes.
"Did you make this yourself?"
She nodded.
"I love it. You're a Chat fan?"
She nodded again, this time catching his eyes and laughing a little.
"In my defense, I didn't know you'd be here."
He was beaming.
"Well, I'm glad I was. I wouldn't want to miss meeting my number one fan." He leaned in closer. "Want a picture?"
She broke eye contact and gently pushed him away.
"Yeah, right. Not in here."
Looking around, he didn't see anyone watching them. Not that he cared either way, of course, but he wanted to make sure she wouldn't be embarrassed.
She grabbed his hand and a shiver went up his spine. He looked at her with wide eyes and she silently pulled him outside. There was a small playground outside of the community center, and she took him to sit on the merry-go-round.
Marinette sat first and pulled Chat down next to her on the cool metal.
"Okay," she spoke first, "I actually am a pretty big Chat Noir fan."
Keep it together, Agreste.
"Really?"
She picked at her jeans.
"Yeah. I always thought you looked so cool. You seemed so easy to talk to. And I guess I can confirm that now."
He smiled and sat up straight.
"I am pretty pawsome."
Marinette giggled.
"It's kind of hard for me to admit, honestly. I tried to tell myself I wouldn't dump all my personality on you, but it's actually really hard not to tell you everything. Kind of like word vomit or something. Sorry."
"Don’t apologize! I like learning about you. I don’t exactly have very many close friends, so this is nice."
Marinette looked at him and he just stared into the sky at the stars.
"The person closest to me doesn't tell me anything about her life. It's really frustrating sometimes. I know it's for the best, but it's hard when you see someone close to you struggling and they can't even tell you what's wrong."
Marinette took a moment before speaking.
"You mean Ladybug?"
Chat nodded.
"I'm sorry. That must be really hard for you, Chat."
"It's okay. I don’t like upsetting my Lady so I don’t dwell on it. It's been like that for years. So don’t feel bad about info-dumping on me." He looked Marinette in her eyes. "I want to learn everything there is to know about you."
Her eyes sparkled.
"Is that okay, Marinette?"
"Yes, Chat."
He put his hand on top of hers and then looked at the sky again. She didn't pull away.
"Still want that picture?"
Chat looked at her and smiled.

Day one of @acesamateurart's shipmas 2022 prompts!
Chocolate
Ship: Adrinette
Fandom: Miraculous Ladybug
Medium: ficlet + drawing
"You do know you're not supposed to eat the ingredients, right?"
Marinette couldn't help a snorting giggle at the look on Adrien's face when his head snapped up.
"I waf-n," he started before swallowing and trying again. "I wasn't eating ingredients." He met her disbelieving stare steadily, his face giving away nothing.
She stepped towards him, eyes narrowing on his statuesque features before scanning the counter behind him. The Dupain-Cheng Bakery's kitchen on any given day could be politely described as a mess and accurately described as a hastily abandoned war zone, but in the fervor of holiday baking it looked like a tornado of icing sugar and red and green sprinkles had torn through and ransacked the cupboards. Adrien's space, the epicenter of the baking storm, was, marginally, cleaner. It was, at least, more organized than the chaos surrounding it, with a few mixing bowls and various ingredients laid out around the Dupain-Cheng Book of Secrets, as Tom called it, and a scale.
Marinette took in all of this as she stalked toward her boyfriend, until she was a mere foot in front of him and her eyes swept back to his carefully molded expression of polite innocence. "Damned model training," she muttered as she shifted her own expression from observation back to suspicion.
"If you weren't eating the ingredients to our Christmas pastries, M. Agreste, what was that in your mouth just now?"
"Would you believe me if I said it was a failed attempt that I was embarrassed you'd see?"
She snorted. "Two years ago, maybe. Or if even one of the ovens was warm." She took another step closer, narrowing the space between them to an inch. "Or-" she stretched up onto the balls of her feet so they were nose to nose, her hands resting on his flour-dusted shoulders for balance- "if I were as unobservant as you, Chaton."
Marinette allowed herself a small, devious grin before kissing Adrien quickly on the cheek and leaning forward to whisper in his ear. "You have chocolate on your face, dumbass."

IOTA Reviews: Passion
Tumblr media
Well, it only took three and a half years, but the writers are finally taking a mulligan with the whole Kwami swap idea after missing the point of it in “Reflekdoll”. Have they learned their lesson when it comes to what kind of stories you could tell by swapping Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous? What do you think?
Let's get into the seventh episode of Miraculous Ladybug's fifth season: Passion
We start off with Marinette and Alya having a sleepover, where, much like the audience, Alya is confused as to why Marinette is suddenly in love with Cat Noir. Unlike with “Determination”, it's hinted that Marinette is still blaming Monarch getting fifteen Miraculous on her feelings for Adrien, and once again, rather than actually acknowledge how Marinette has a point in this case, the narrative is portraying her focusing more on Cat Noir as a defense mechanism so she doesn't have to confront her feelings for Adrien now. It's pretty stupid, but par for the course this season because the writers refuse to admit that Marinette's crush on Adrien may have inadvertently made things worse.
We then cut to the Agreste Mansion, where Gabriel is busy cooking pancakes for Adrien, asking if he wants bananas on them. Because Adrien isn't B'Elenna Torres, he doesn't actually like bananas on his pancakes, and only said he did to make Gabriel happy, something Nathalie picks up on. You know, I'm not exactly a Michelin star chef, but I'm pretty sure you don't place these huge chunks of bananas on pancakes instead of small slices.
Tumblr media
Nathalie comes down to the kitchen, and while she still seems to judge Gabriel, in a clever bit of visual storytelling, Adrien sees one of Emilie's rings on Nathalie's finger (which she's had ever since the end of Season 4), and it's hinted he believes they're engaged. Of course, as soon as Adrien leaves to get ready for school, Nathalie pins Gabriel down to the table and reveals the true reason for her continuing to work for him after the events of “Evolution”.
Nathalie: I came to this house to hunt magical artifacts for you and Emilie. I became your bodyguard, your right hand woman, your friend, and even more. But this is all over. You used to do this out of love for Emilie, but now, you're only doing it out of madness, and the only reason I'm still here is to protect Adrien from you!
Okay, fair point wanting to protect Adrien, there's other ways to do so that don't involve silently judging him and doing nothing else. What's stopping Nathalie from calling the cops on Gabriel? What's stopping Nathalie from sending in an anonymous tip to Ladybug and Cat Noir? What's stopping her from telling literally anyone else she knows that her boss is the most dangerous man in the world right now? What's stopping Nathalie from flat-out running away with Adrien and telling him the truth about his father? Seriously, of all the things you choose to do with the knowledge you have, and continuing to enable this man while occasionally scolding him was what you settled on? And again, it's really weird that Nathalie suddenly thinks Gabriel is insane when the whole reason she needs those robot braces to walk was because she chose to let the broken Peacock Miraculous ruin her body trying to help Gabriel as Mayura.
After a brief scene where Adrien talks with Plagg about how to confess his feelings for Marinette, we then see Nathalie watching several recordings of Emilie that Gabriel supposedly ordered her to delete. We learn that right before she fell into her coma, Emilie made Nathalie promise to find some way to stop Gabriel from trying to find the Miraculous, if only for Adrien's sake. Yeah, real bang-up job you did there, Nathalie. Adrien comes in and asks Nathalie about what to do about the girl he likes, with Nathalie's response all but stating that Emilie had feelings for Gabriel before he and Emilie got married.
Tumblr media
Adrien asks Nathalie if what happened to Emilie will happen to her, to which she tells him that's not that the case, even if she coincidentally has the same symptoms Emilie had before her “disappearance”. After Adrien leaves, Nathalie goes down to Gabriel's lair while he's talking to Emilie's body like every other day that ends in a “Y”, telling him to akumatize her.
It's a dramatic scene, as usually, willing accepting an Akuma is seen as the point of no return for an antagonist, just ask Lila and Chloe. So of course, let's break the tension with a scene of Marinette stuttering around Adrien as he tries to confess his love to her. Nice transition, writers. Plagg tries to tell Tikki about the situation, claiming that their holders falling in love with each other could spell the end of the world (and he's not wrong in that case), but Tikki points out that Marinette's crippling anxiety prevents her from making any advances in her love life.
Back with Nathalie, for some reason, she chose to walk back down to her room where she keps a mannequin displaying some explorer clothes of hers, where Monarch akumatizes her into Safari.
Tumblr media
Safari's design is pretty cool, even if it is a little too similar to a certain other French sniper with a primarily purple color scheme. I like the classical hunter motif, and the color scheme is pretty appealing. Admittedly, I'm not too sure about her powers, because right from the start, she uses the Goat Miraculous' Genesis to create her hunting gear (which somehow has bullets themed after the Tiger, Dragon, Pig, Fox, and Bee Miraculous), including a crossbow whose bullets who can track their targets.
Safari uses a Mirage bullet to create an illusion of Timetagger, an Akuma who shouldn't even exist in the present day, so she's not exactly not off to a good start. Despite that, Marinette and Adrien transform into Ladybug and Cat Noir respectively and give chase, only to lose “Timetagger”. Of course, Ladybug decides to ask Cat Noir out on a date despite the suspicious situation, only to be immobilized by one of Safari's Venom bullets. After a pretty decent chase sequence, Cat Noir manages to evade the bullet with the stunned Ladybug in hand. Cat Noir tries to escape, but eventually, he's cornered by the bullets in the sewers. For some reason, after Adrien transforms, the bullets just go away, because that's how Monarch designed Safari's powers. Also, Ladybug doesn't see Cat Noir detransform because her eyes were covered when she was stunned. Plot contrivance at its finest, folks.
Adrien has Plagg take Marinette's Miraculous, and he explains the situation, so they come up with a loophole: transform using each other's Miraculous. Before that, Adrien actually thinks about using the Miraculous wish to cure Nathalie and asks “Ladybug” about it, only for Marinette to explain why that can't happen.
Marinette: There's always a balance between creation and destruction. For every one thing we fixed, another would be destroyed. For every sick person we cured, another would become ill. For every villain defeated, something else, just as terrible, would be created somewhere else to replace it.
So I guess we're back to that rule instead of the whole “the world will literally end if the wish is made” crap. Marinette and Adrien take each other's Miraculous and transform into Lady Noire and Mister Bug respectively. While watching over Safari, Lady Noire is just eating the cherry-flavored eye candy that is Mister Bug.
This only adds to the biggest problem I have with Season 5 so far: How it refuses to acknowledge how Marinette's feelings for Adrien/Cat Noir have only been shown to be detrimental to her as a hero. Rather than acknowledge that Marinette's feelings for Adrien were what caused Monarch to get all the other Miraculous, the show constantly says that it wasn't her fault, even when she was blamed for everything going wrong at the end of the last season. There was also the part earlier in the episode where Alya just ignored the point Marinette made about trusting Felix with the Dog Miraculous by just saying that Marinette is deflecting her true feelings for Adrien by focusing on Cat Noir. While you could argue Alya made a good point herself, she didn't acknowledge anything else in Marinette's argument, and just acts like Marinette and Adrien being a couple is more important that Marinette thinking about saving lives. And of course, during the battle, Lady Noire can't stop flirting with Mister Bug, which could potentially get in the way of the fight like we've seen with Cat Noir in the past. You can't just tell the audience to ship Marinette and Adrien together when Marinete's feelings for Adrien have only been shown to get in the way of her superhero life.
Mister Bug and Lady Noire fight off Safari, asking her why she wants their Miraculous.
Lady Noire: What about you, Safari, what do you want?
Safari: The same thing. A wish. Everyone wants to have one, right?
Monarch: Safari, what are you up to?
Safari: Should I tell them the truth?
Monarch: (growls in frustration)
Safari: That's what I thought.
Because Nathalie would rather risk ending the world instead of telling anyone who Monarch really is. Yes, she is that stupid. Mister Bug summons his Lucky Charm, getting a bottle of perfume. This makes him realize the akumatized object is back at the Agreste mansion. While Lady Noire holds off Safari, Mister Bug breaks the mannequin holding the Akuma. Mister Bug de-evilizes the Akuma, uses Miraculous Mister Bug to fix the damage, vows to stop Monarch for akumatizing such a fragile and innocent person.
After giving each other their Miraculous back, Marinette recounts what happened to Alya and Tikki, somehow believing that because Cat Noir/Mister Bug said nothing in response to her asking him out to the movies since he was focused on stopping the Akuma, this must mean he secretly loves her back. Yep, if “Determination” didn't already set off any red flags, we're really doing this, people. And so the episode ends with Adrien apologizing to Nathalie for supposedly getting her akumatized, while Nathalie reassures Adrien that he means a lot to her, even if she's too stupid to rat out Monarch after five seasons.
Yeah, this episode was pretty lousy. A big chunk of it stemmed from the way it handled Nathalie's character. Obviously, she can't tell Ladybug and Cat Noir about Monarch's identity because we still need to finish the season, but the way they go about it by having her passive-aggressively continue to work for him when she's perfectly capable of restraining him, even in her handicapped state, is just a ridiculous leap in logic. I get that it's an attempt to give Nathalie depth, but the writers never really acknowledge how Nathalie's inaction is endangering so many lives.
And of course, there's the stuff with Marinette. Just like with Cat Noir, her flirting on the job made it look like she wasn't taking things seriously while playing it off as a cute little quirk of hers. Again, the show is at least trying to acknowledge how odd the way she displays her feelings is, but it's not in a way that actually leads to any interesting developments.
The Akuma fight was also pretty dumb, as the heroes pretty much won thanks to dumb luck. Not only did Safari's bullets magically stop working as soon as Ladybug and Cat Noir detransformed, not only did she never adjust her system to target Mister Bug and Lady Noire, but the whole reason Mister Bug's Lucky Charm even worked was because he knew who Safari was and where her Akuma was, something that wouldn't have happened if Ladybug and Cat Noir didn't swap Miraculous.
Overall, it was bad, but not as frustrating as “Illusion” or “Determination”.
THE BIGGEST IDIOT OF THE EPISODE IS... NATHALIE
Tumblr media
For someone who said she was looking out for Adrien, Nathalie really made a lot of terrible choices doing so this episode. She only considered ratting out Gabriel near the end of the episode as a threat, tried stealing the Miraculous herself, and never considered the fact that her hesitance to tell anyone what she knows is only making things worse, especially for Adrien.

August Minific Challenge day 07
@lovebugs-and-snakecharmers
Prompt: “Are you just quoting song lyrics?”
Word Count: 770
(No beta so it’s probably awful)
Fugitive!Marinette and Luka are trying to find a helping hand they can send to Paris to clear their names.
In the morning Luka and Marinette wake up, Tight in each other's warm embrace. They cuddle for a bit then after hearing some clanging in the other room, they rise from bed and go to investigate.
Shu-Yin promptly walks up to them from the kitchen. “It’s late but there is breakfast in the dining area. Help yourselves. Then I recommend starting your search on how to get out of this predicament.” She nods then struts away. A force to be reckoned with.
They sit and eat, chatting about their ideas. “Actually.” Luka states “I believe I have an old.. Acquaintance who may be willing to help us out. I believe he still lives here as well.”
“Oh?” Marinette says, wondering who Luka might know. “He’s a bit intense but he’s got a heart somewhere.”
“Well when can we go visit this friend?”
“Later in the evening, he’s most likely working all day”
Marinette nods and smiles, hoping that this means she can finally go home soon. But Luka looks away, Knowing that if everything ends and they save Paris once and for all, he’ll go back to normal life.
A few hours go by, and Luka grabs some cash and beckons to Marinette, they set out walk for a good while. When they arrive at a large house bordering on a mansion they see the building is comfortably decorated with White with bright blue trim and plant boxes on every window. Luka hops the gate and knocks on the door , Marinette struggles a bit but also manages to get over. She walks up next to Luka as.. a blond boy opens the door, someone Marinette could swear is all over Paris billboards.
“Agreste Poster boy?”
“No, Absolutely not. You better not be one of those psycho fans.”
“I’m not you just-“ Luka gives Marinette a look that tells her to stop talking. He stands a bit straighter and looks at the blonde boy.
“Felix. It’s been a while.”
“Ah, The violin maker.” Luka smiles at this as Felix leads them into the mansion
“ I believe I know why you’re here. I’ve been following the case.”
“Good, So I was wondering if you-“ Luka is cut off as Felix stands up and Looks at Marinette. “Hm, so you’re the famed Ladybug. I saw you once when I was visiting my cousin.” He lifts his hand up to touch her earrings, Marinette quickly swats him off and storms out “I’ll wait outside”
“Sorry about that Fe, she’s been on edge lately, for obvious reasons.”
Felix chuckles, his usually pompous attitude fades away as he becomes more comfortable around an old friend who was made back when Felix simply needed a new Violin.
“So as I was saying-“
“Yes, I’d assume you want me to go to Paris and investigate in your stead. Being in journalism gives me a good excuse. I also have an idea who the villain may be, which only confirms that you two have done nothing wrong.”
“Right yeah” Luka chuckles “Only you know as much about how people think as I know how they feel “
“We’re smart people Luka, And what else is on your mind?”
“Who’s the person you're thinking about” Luka retorts.
“There’s a girl in Paris I’ve fallen for” Felix hangs his head silently as Luka says “I want to propose to Marinette once everything is over” at the same time.
Marinette, who happens to be right outside the door hears her name and starts to listen in
“I wanna do this right. But I’m having trouble getting up the nerve” Luka starts, as he taps his foot against the coffee table, Felix looks at him and replies
“For the record this is self destructive”
Luka leans in and glares “for the record, I’m aware of that.”
He looks at the ground, “It took me ten long years just to look in the mirror, and find just what I’m staring at. But I’ll never tell.”
Felix holds up a hand to change the subject “She is the one, she’s such wonderful fun, such passion and grace.”
Luka smiles, and responds in his own conversation “She so warm in the night when I’m right in her tight embrace, tight embrace” Felix continues to talk about his own predicament “So I keep it all in, it’s like I’m invisible in my own skin”
At that point Marinette walks in “What the hell was that conversation? … are you guys just quoting song lyrics?!”
Both of the boys smile and laugh, which only makes Marinette glare even further

Youth's Masterlist
Masterlist
"Did you hear Marinette came back from the mental hospital?" "She's back?" "How long has it been since we've seen her?" "Since eighth grade"
The whispers flooded Adrien's head as he walked through the courtyard, his steps were light but determined as he walked towards Alya and Nino. She had her lips attached to his and Nino's hands gently held her waist. They both had grown a lot since eighth grade, Alya's hair had grown out and was better taken care of now; and Nino had ditched his hat and grown his hair out. The sides were shaved but he had enough on top to tie back into a manbun.
"Are you two still eating each other's faces?"
Adrien asked, getting both of their attentions. Alya rolled her eyes and let her hands drop from where they had sat on Nino's chest. They dangled limply by her side before she gently gripped Nino's hand.
"Don't be a pucker because you're still single Adrien. It's not like there's not a handful of girls who would willingly date you. You've got everyone but the aroace's and the lesbians willing to date the Adrien Agreste."
Alya said, pulling a chuckle from Nino who, now, stood behind his girl friend. Wrapping his arms around her waist he buried his face in her neck and left gentle kisses. Making Adrien turn his head away, in an uncomfortable manner.
"You two need to cut back on the PDA."
A calm and warm voice said, making Adrien turn and face him. Elliot stood behind Adrien, his brown messenger bag crossing over his black turtle neck and resting on his hip. The dark blue pants he was wearing seemed comfortable, unlike the black shoes he was wearing.
"Elliot, hey, how was your summer?" "Long and tiring."
Adrien couldn't help but smile as he clasped hands with Elliot, pulling him into a hug as he did.
"How'd the job at the Dupain-cheng's go?" "Great, I'm still going to be working in the afternoons until their daughter gets back in touch with the kitchen."
Elliot said, then the room went silent. The soft sound of shoes on solid stone made everyone turn towards the door.

Multi-fandom: What else can I do?
Song: What Else Can I Do? By Diane Guerrero and Stephanie Beatriz
Plot: Shedding their perfect image and family expectations, various characters truly discover how much of their life was for others and not for themselves, with some help and encouragement from you, of course.
Characters: Courtney (Total Drama), Samantha LaRussso (Cobra Kai), Adrien Agreste (Miraculous), Quinn Fabray (Glee), Pacifica Northwest (Gravity Falls), and Audrey Rose (Descendants)
Note: I have been listening to Encanto’s soundtrack on repeat since I saw the movie.

🎵What could I do if I just knew it didn't need to be perfect?🎵
Tumblr media
Courtney (Total Drama)
Takes place after TDWT
Courtney was never too close to her parents
But she didn't have to be to feel the weight of their expectations and standards on her every time she walked into the kitchen, hopeful for their adoration and pride.
Though, she hasn't gotten it yet.
With both of her parents being in highly respected careers, Courtney knew from the young age of 5 that if she was going to capture their attention, she needed to be that.
She needed to be something big and intelligent.
It actually took a while for Courtney to land on lawyer, as for she was considering president or surgeon for the longest time
But with this big dream, came even bigger expectations from her parents.
Not that Courtney wasn't ready to meet the challenge, because she was.
Well, until Total Drama seemed to have ruined what she spent years working on.
She's spent years on that show being humiliated by Chris, Heather, Gwen, Duncan, Harold, Alejandro, etc...
She could probably go on forever.
"That show ruined me!"
"Court-"
"My parents won't even answer my calls! I'm their disappointment!"
"You don't know that Court!"
"They called and told me so the day after the first season finished airing, (Y/N)!" Courtney huffed, "I was 16! I only cared about winning the money! I only cared about Duncan back then! I have been trying so hard to get back into their good graces ever since the island. I was so close this season! I felt it!"
Silence.
You kept your eyes on Courtney's form, shaking from rage.
"Court, you don't need them." You said, slowly taking a step forward, and grabbing Courtney's fist in your hand, holding softly. "You're amazing. You don't need them. You don't need their judgement. If they can't accept you as you are, then you don't need them."
"I-uh," Courtney narrowed her eyes over at you, mind racing with her next possible words.
She wasn't always used to others saying such genuinely nice things about her.
Her parents only ever had criticisms and critiques for her.
And here she was being praised like she's wanted all her life and she didn't know what to say back.
Courtney wasn't sure how to even begin to describe her feelings at that moment. But she knew that she wanted to try, at least.
"Well, (Y/N), I-uh-" She paused, losing her train of thought as she saw your smile brighten. "Thanks. I can always count on you."
"Of course." You grinned, "Now take a deep breath, okay. You were shaking there pretty badly."
"Yeah, yeah." Courtney dismissed, "I'll be fine."
"Oh, how can you be so sure?"
"You're by my side. Things are always a little better with you."
"A little?"
"Okay, more than a little." She clarified, turning her face away from yours, as her face burned.
Tumblr media
Samantha LaRusso (Cobra Kai)
Takes place during Season 4
Being a LaRusso came with some certain.....expectations from her dad and her mom.
But mostly her dad, who had the giant moral compass that he instilled in her and Anthony since before they could talk.
Sam didn't really feel the pressure to be who her parents want her to be until she reached high school.
It got even worse once her junior year hit, and college was on everyone's brain.
Samantha never knew what she wanted to do growing up.
At first, she assumed that she'd want to study science and be some kind of chemist.
Lately, she hasn't felt particularly fond of that vision.
It didn't help that Daniel and Amanda pushed college onto her all the time, especially Stanford.
"You're practically a shoe in, Sam!" Daniel beamed, "I mean with your grades and unique extra-curriculars, they would insane not to accept you."
Would it be insane if I said no? Sam wanted to say.
"What are you writing about for your college essay, Sam?" You asked, pushing aside your computer slightly, to get a better view of her sitting across from you. "Everything I start to write about sucks."
"Huh...." Sam quickly snapped her attention to you and away from her thoughts. "I don't know yet." She muttered. "I haven't thought about it."
"You?" You scoffed. "With your dad and mom? Not think about it? I'm surprised that they haven't made you write it already."
"Yeah," She smiled, forcing out a small laugh. "They tried, but they've been busy with Anthony lately and all this Cobra Kai-Eagle Fang-Miyagi-Do feud." She paused, suddenly feeling brave. "Besides, I'm not so sure writing one is a good idea anyway."
"No?" Sam nodded, biting down on her lip, unable to meet your gaze. "Okay. I mean, college isn't for everyone. Some people want to go and some don't."
"Really?"
"Hmm." You hummed, catching Sam's look of relief, "Have you told your parents, yet?"
"No. I don't know how to tell them. I mean, they dreamed of me becoming something successful since I was young. They always pushed me to go to college." She sighed, "I'm not sure if saying no to that is anything that they'll accept."
"You don't need college to be successful, you know. Plenty of people are successful without it." You said.
"I don't even have a backup plan to tell them. I don't know what I want to do with my life."
"That's fine, Sam."
"Is it?! Because from where I'm standing it seems like everyone has their shit figured out except for me!" Sam roared, fire burning in her eyes, "Miguel, Moon, Aisha, Demetri...."
"Some people figure it out quicker than others." You said, "Look at my parents, they didn't figured their shit out until a few years ago. You're allowed to change your mind, Sam."
Silence. You could practically hear the gears turning in hear head, battling about her revelation and how to tell her parents this.
"Listen," You reached forward, grabbing her hand, "I bet that they'll support you. It may take a while given your dad's overreaction to things sometimes..." you added with a chuckle, causing a laugh out of the brunette. "As long as you're happy, Sam."
"You're so cheesy!"
"Yeah, yeah," You said, smiling brightly as the sound of Sam's laugh rang in your ears. "It made you laugh and smile, which I am always more than happy to make happen."
"Thank you...." Sam cooed, a light smile still tugging at her lips. "What would I do without you?"
"I don't know. I guess that I'm just a lifesaver." You smirked, as Sam chuckled at your response.

Adrien Agreste (Miraculous)
Takes place in between seasons 3 and 4
Adrien was never really truly interested in modeling.
Or fashion.
Or really anything that his father pushed him to do.
He was pretty interested in physics though and considered studying it along with chemistry in university.
He never brought it up to his dad before, because every attempt at bring up school was always shot down in favor of more photoshoots and campaigns.
He didn't want to sound ungrateful, but Adrien was not interested in continuing to be a well-known model.
He just wished that his father respected that.
So when Adrien got the chance to be Chat Noir it was great.
He was given a chance to be whoever he wanted without criticism and disappointment from his father.
"It's not enough anymore."
"What isn't?"
"This model Adrien stuff. I got to actually find and be myself as Chat Noir." Adrien said.
"I know. I can see how much you like it."
"I want it to be like that all the time. I want to be me all the time."
"So, why can't you?"
"Come on, you know why." Adrien scoffed. "My dad would never even begin to let that happen. I'm lucky that I even get to go to school with all of you."
"Listen, I know how much your dad means to you and all, but if this is going to make you happy, don't you think that you should start living for Adrien and a little less for Gabriel?"
"I don't even know where to begin!"
"Maybe baby steps....?" You grinned, causing Adrien's face to break out with a smile.
"Something small.....?" Adrien repeated, glancing over at you as you nodded.
"Something small and easy to start." You said, "Then keep going from there."
"I don't know if I can do that."
"You still have Chat Noir to be yourself with." You grinned, "And I see how much fun you have when your Chat. You love it."
"I do, I really I do."
"Well, you're not gonna get to be Chat all the time if you don't take the first step!"
"Alright, alright. I get it." Adrien said, "I'll think of something small. Thanks for the help."
"Of course, Adrien." You said, "You got this."
Tumblr media
Quinn Fabray (Glee)
Takes place in near the end of Season one, right before Quinn delivers her baby
Perfection was something that Quinn was well acquainted with.
Her father always told her that Fabrays deserved and earned nothing but the gold standard.
Her mother wasn't as hard on this perfection thing as much as her dad was, especially with her.
Both often set their sights on Frannie.
So Quinn pushed and pushed her way into their attentions.
Once she got their attention, Quinn was determined to everything in her power to make sure that they both saw her nothing short of that perfect little girl.
And once Frannie left for college, keeping her parents' attention proved to be easier than ever.
All she had to do was be the perfect, good student, Christian daughter that her father dreamed of.
Well, that was until Quinn got pregnant at the age 16.
Head Cheerio, Straight A/B student, president of the Chasity club.
Her.
The image and world that she had spent years and years building up, came crumbling down as soon as Finn pressed play on that boom box, proclaiming through song how proud he was that she was having his baby.
Everything around her shattered.
Finn found out the true father of the baby. Puck didn't know that first thing about taking care of a baby. Cheerios kicked her out. Her parents kicked her out.
The lack of time she spent trying to perfect cheer routines and plotting ways for her prom domination was now spent in reflection.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing."
"Hmmm. I know that it's not nothing, Q." You said, "You have that look on your face."
"What if I can't get things back to how there were before?" She whispered, almost afraid that if said out loud it was bound to come true.
"Q, the cheerios will take you back. Sue always had a soft spot for you, and you know that."
"What if I don't want to be like it was before?" Quinn added.
Silence.
"You don't have to do it all like how it was before, Q." You said, "No one's forcing you."
"I just don't want to be stuck doing things that make me unhappy."
"And you shouldn't have to." You said. "Are you sure that you're okay?"
"I-It's just that carrying my baby and stuff got me thinking about how I really wasn't living for myself. I was living for my parents. I was doing things because I thought that they might be proud of me." Quinn sighed, "I'm tired of it. Glee and Cheerios were the only things that I chose myself."
"You should do things that make you happy, Q."
"You make me happy." Quinn grinned. "Can I keep you around?"
"Hmmm...." You smiled, "I don't know I usually don't date cheerleaders, but I think that we can make it work."
Tumblr media
Pacifica Northwest (Gravity Falls)
Takes place during Weirdmagedeon, after Pacifica takes refugee with the Pines family.
Pacifica had every she could ever want.
She was a Northwest with a rich family and an ever richer family history.
One that she was ready to recite detail for detail about when asked.
After all, she didn't spend months and months learning and memorizing it with her father for nothing.
Er, well, her father's closest butler, that is.
Growing up, Pacifica learned fast what was acceptable and what wasn't.
Her parents made sure that she was aware.
"If you do that again, you'll drop the Northwest name!"
That threat always played on a loop inside of her head.
All day. Everyday.
"I'm surprised to see you here." You remarked, glancing over as Pacifica sat down next to you inside the Mystery Shack. "I figured that your dad had some secret end of the world bunker with all the money he had."
"Please, like I have the time to explain it to you." Pacifica crossed her arms.
"I mean, look around." You laughed, "I think that you kind of do."
Silence.
"Listen, Pacifica," You sighed, "We're all here, fighting the same crazy demon, so it's okay to not have your guard up. We're all just trying to survive right now."
More silence. You were pretty sure that Pacifica was already dismissing everything that you were saying to her anyway.
"They left me."
"What?"
"I said," Pacifica rolled her eyes, sighing, "They left me. My dad got his face rearranged and my mom went off somewhere. I don't know."
"Pacifica," You said, "I'm sorry that they did that."
"It's whatever." Pacifica shrugged. "They always looked out for themselves anyway."
At that moment, you never wanted to give Pacifica Northwest a hug more.
Sitting next to her, it was hard to ignore the sadness and annoyance radiating off of Pacifica.
"Well, you have us. And no offense, I've been around your parents. They would have made this a lot more of a downer than it already is."
"Well, they made their choice." Pacifica said, a light smile on her face. "I made mine."
"Oh, look at you disrespecting Mommy and Daddy's orders,"
"I'm serious. I'm done listening to them. They didn't care enough to stay with me during the end of the world."
"Well, the Mystery Shack is always welcoming to visitors." You grinned, "I mean, I can't speak for the others, but I like having you around."
"Well, if this means anything, I don't totally hate being around you either."
"I'll take it."
Tumblr media
Audrey Rose (Descendants)
Takes place after the events of the first movie
Audrey's parents were very supportive, but often not too active in her life, consulting with Ben's parents and the other royals that made up the court of Auradon.
So Audrey pretty much grew up with Queen Leah always around, as not only did Queen Leah want to spend time with her granddaughter, but also Aurora.
Given the way that the court of royals worked within Auradon, there was a lot of competition for Queen of Auradon.
And that didn't even include the others who weren't of royal descent.
And Queen Leah was hell-bent on getting her second chance through Audrey to do everything right.
This also meant that by extension that Audrey had to do everything right.
Audrey had her life pretty much planned out by her grandmother, Queen Leah.
And as a young girl, Audrey looked up to her and idolized her so much.
Everything was going according to plan until Mal and those other Isle kids came to Auradon.
Audrey knew it as soon as that purple-haired isle kid stepped onto Auradon land.
There was nothing Audrey could do, her ticket as Queen of Auradon quickly disappeared.
"She won't stop calling me!"
"24 times so far. She's really trying hard today." You said, glancing up at Audrey, "Maybe you should talk to her....?"
"I don't need to. I know what she's going to say." Audrey stated, crossing her arms, and tossing her phone back into her bag.
"You don't know that for sure, Auds."
"I do." Audrey's eyes snapped up to yours. "I do know that. I grew up with her. That crap has been the soundtrack of my life!" She paused, sighing, slumping back into her seat. "I'm tired of it."
You stayed silent, eyes trained on Audrey's figure, watching as she sunk lower and lower into her chair.
"You don't have to."
"What...?"
"Try." You said, reaching over to grab Audrey's hand, "You don't have to try so hard. Beating yourself up over letting your grandmother down is not going to help."
"I can't." Audrey murmured, "I don't know the real me."
"She's somewhere. I'm sure that if anyone can find her, it's you."
Audrey wasn't sure what to say, her mind working quickly to process the words you had just uttered.
You believed in her.
Wholeheartedly
No conditions or expectations
"I'll find her." She muttered. "It's me, after all."
"See? Looks like, you've found a little bit of her already." You joked.
🎵It just needed to be? And they let me be?🎵
