I think my biggest pet peeve when it comes to media is period pieces about feminism that just have a ridiculous number of historical inaccuracies in what the characters are doing, saying, wearing, everything in general etc etc. Like why can't we have a movie about what an actual feminist in the 19th century would've been doing. Why do you have to add modern terminology and attitudes

Hi again! I'm always happy to answer asks! Top ten romantic ships, you say? Here we go!

Zutara (Avatar: the Last Airbender) Zuko and Katara complement each other perfectly personality-wise. The share the same core values, but are different enough to make it interesting. And the narrative parallels these two have are insane for being a non-canon couple. They get all of the emotional development in the show, and you expect me to go with the hastily thrown together canon ships? Plus I'm always a sucker for enemies to friends to lovers.

Tenth Doctor / Rose Tyler (Doctor Who) Ultimate friends to lovers with time travel mixed in! What's not to love? I especially love the way you can just tell that they're besties first and anything else second.

Camen Sandiego / Graham "Crackle" Calloway (Carmen Sandiego 2019) Enemies-to-friends-to-enemies-to-strangers-to-friends-to-enemies-to-friends-to-enemies and if the show wasn't a coward they'd have ended up together. I'm a sucker for complicated relationships where the characters find themselves on opposite sides of a conflict. Also the chemistry is off the charts. (Yes, it's another red/blue non-canon ship, sue me.)

Percy Jackson / Annabeth Chase (Percy Jackson series) Love these two together! Years-long slowburn with fantastic development, and Annabeth is an absolute badass character.

Sokka / Suki (Avatar: the Last Airbender). The only good canon ship in the show. It's very sweet and they both respect each other a lot.

El Topo / Le Chevre (Carmen Sandiego 2019). Ah these two. They're an opposites attract ship that works so well and get so many cute/funny moments in the show. You can just tell how much they care about each other. Also the only ship that the show actually confirms 😂

Enola Holmes / Tewkesbury (Enola Holmes movies) Badass detective girl and an absolute simp of a boy.

Anastasia / Dimitri (Anastasia movie) Love their chemistry and banter. Seriously, they banter so much that another character literally keeps a "shots fired" notebook 🤣

Sophie Hatter / Howl Pendragon (Howl's Moving Castle - both movie and book, but especially book). Love the utter chaos of this ship. Neither of them know how to communicate and its hilarious.

Jenny Flint / Madame Vastra (Doctor Who) Time travel detective lesbians based in Victorian England!

Ok I binge watched both Enola Holmes movies and I am a bit wine at the moment so here are my thoughts:

I want all of Enola's clothes immediately thanks

Did not know I needed Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes but he has absolutely ROCKETED to the top of my personal favorite Sherlock Holmes portrayals

(The way he politely but firmly demands that Mycroft make Enola his ward? His delighted little "Ha!" when his baby sister beats him to the punch on a case? The way he immediately softens when he realizes someone held a knife to her throat (and he wasn't there to protect her)? They have a standing sibling date to check in with each other??? A+ Sherlock zero notes I would happily watch six seasons and three more movies of these two)

Related, I know Enola would always be in his shadow and thus she was right to turn down his offer, but I would also watch six seasons and three movies of Holmes & Holmes Detective Agency, oh my GOD GIVE ME THIS

The soundtrack for both movies absolutely WHIPS, it is exactly the right blend of Dramatic and Playful Period Murder Mystery without overpowering the visuals or demanding you Feel Things that aren't supported by what you're watching

The first movie does, unfortunately, suffer from the modern adaptation plague of "corsets are RESTRICTIVE and a CURSE" but that scene is mercifully brief and Enola proceeds to kick ass in appropriately structured and tailored period costume; also I will give her a pass since she was raised, as Mycroft says, as a wildling and so was probably not used to corsets and viewed them as a symbol of society trying to box her into a particular role.

Speaking of which, I was ready to go through the screen and fight everyone who wanted to force Enola into the mold of a Proper Lady, I should not have been surprised at the vehemence of my reaction and yet here we are

ALSO re: asskicking: ENOLA IS THE ANTI-MARY SUE, oh my God I was so delighted to see her being competent but not hypercompetent. She is resourceful and clever and skilled but she still gets bested sometimes, because she is a young woman facing off against unscrupulous men who are not pulling their punches! She wins through hard work and cleverness and it takes multiple tries for her to succeed!

I expected to be mildly annoyed at the romance but I actually really like Enola + Tewkesbury, they are v cute and I am surprisingly soft for competent badass lady + soft gardener gentleman and their whole relationship felt very organic rather than forced. (I did have some secondhand embarrassment at the ball in the 2nd movie but I suspect that is A Me Thing rather than a writing issue.)

The social commentary in general is very very good, especially in the 2nd movie, but Edith's speech to Sherlock in the 1st movie absolutely knocks it out of the park

Enola setting her big brother up with Watson as a flatmate is a gift to me personally and I would like to thank everyone involved with that decision

Reasons I absolutely LOVE the Enola Holmes movies

Millie Bobbie Brown? The perfect actress for the part! She’s so badass and I cannot express how much I love her acting

The COSTUMES! They’re beautiful! Enola’s dress on the second movie poster is amazing and I seriously love all the thought put into the clothes

Tewkesbury and Enola’s relationship actually seems real, and I love the trope of “Feminist and the guy who absolutely fell so hard for her”

THE SOUNDTRACK THE SOUNDTRACK THE SOUNDTRACK OH MY GOD IT’S SO GOOD Daniel Pemberton is one of my favorite modern composers as he’s also done the soundtrack for Love, Simon and Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. The music is absolutely beautiful and I highly suggest listening to it

I’m an absolute sucker for England/London around the Victorian era and I don’t know why but it’s so cool

So... yeah. this is me ranting about millie’s newest movie. for some reason i felt the need to post this.

AYOOOOOOOOO I WATCHED ENOLA 2 AND HOLY SHIT-

I’m mind blown! Millie’s acting, first of all; GIRL. SHE IS SO TALENTED. And the plot twists... this is why i fecking love mysteries, they keep me so damn enraptured. plus, we finally have watson!!! yes!!! and i’m so excited to see more action with mira tory. yeah, she kinda evil, but there’s no denying that she’s a badass.

i hadn’t expected to get much of helena bonham carter in this sequel, since she really wasn’t in the first movie very much, but i was pleasantly surprised to get such a long scene with her (the smoke bomb gets her even more credit, agh she’s so awesome). i love the relationship enola has with her mother; they make each other so much more chaotic than they would alone. also, can we talk about edith?! she’s such a powerful character! she could flip me over her shoulder and i’d say thank you.

i’m not going to lie, i did get kind of sad about mae and william’s deaths, i would have liked to see more of them. but oh well, do what you must for the angst factor, ig.

henry cavill sounded so much like johnny depp to me during that one scene when he gets thrown out onto the street, hammered off his ass. i love how he got shot and was just... completely fine. and the “don’t be ridiculous” thing had me laughing so hard omfg-

AND HOW FRIGGIN ADORABLE WAS THE FAN THING AHHHHH I SHIP ENOLA AND TEWKSBURY WITH MY LIFE!!

I was watching Enola Holmes and loved it. Just peak content.

And I realized that is what I wanted The Vampire Academy series to be. Rose being a badass while narrating her story and engaging with the audience every once in a while. We’d get her monologue which is one of the best parts of that story and we’d get her being a badass.

I would have made her a little darker in personality than Enola, of course. Somewhere between Enola Holmes and Wednesday Addams, with a twist of comedy and of course the vampire aspect. Like, she would pause in the middle of sucking on someone’s neck to engage with the audience. That sort of thing.

And then Lissa as Rose’s partner in crime getting up to shenanigans and their boyfriends eventually helping them with those shenanigans.
