Okay I love how full of sibling energy saving Shattermaster is! ‘Shall we go save our brother’ ‘I’m gonna kill him.’ Dndjdndjdndejdnjedn I need more of them being siblings! Also Hiccup and Heather as well I love them doing stuff together! This whole ep is so funny in regard to them, like Hiccup being the only one with any non violent tendencies and just having to deal with both of them and keeping them alive. And also him being like ‘just be careful’ to Heather ajsxjesjiedjiedjiejd. And Heather and Dagur bonding and laughing at the end ndedjiedniedniedmied

He should get a little badge for best brother! Best little brother! :D

Archipelago Academy

Here are some modern headcanons I have for the younger Dragons characters (including the Defenders because they're fun. I don't actually they are young enough to be in high school with the others. Looking at you, Mala👀)

Hiccup: He's the geek for a while. He's still not athletic and gets picked on for that and absolutely hating gym. As a student, he's pretty good. Lots of As and maybe a few high Bs depending on the subject. (He'd do better if he didn't daydream so much and he's not acing any music class. Might be get a pity D). When he finds out he's really good with exotic animals, he starts getting popular and that's when more people realize that he's also a lot of fun, a nice type of sarcastic, and gutsy. He's probably in a chess club before he starts his own that's about unique creatures.

Astrid: She's popular, but she's a little bit of the mean popular type. It's not that she actually is bullying anyone, but everyone knows she's tough and most think she's unapproachable. She's one of the top athletes and is captain on just about every team for the girls. If she's on the team, she's the captain. She doesn't have time for clubs since she's at practice a lot. She's a strong student who gets mad if there's ever a B in her report card, so she works really hard to balance physical and mental sides of school. Afterschool, she'll take some time to hang out with her friends.

Fishlegs: The nerd. We all knew this was coming. He's getting A+ every time (respectable) except in gym. He has the skills, but he's too scared to really have the aggression he needs unless he's just pushed to the edge. Then, maybe he finally wins dodge ball. Aside from that, he's part of the mathletes, is in charge of a book club, is in the chess club too, and enjoys volunteering in his spare time. He sits with Hiccup the most often at lunch.

Snotlout: The jock of course. He's basically the boy Astrid in how he's the captain for all the other sports teams. He'll talk badly about the girls until they had an unofficial game and they wipe the floor with his group. Then, he'll give Astrid the credit she deserves. When his dad gets in his head, he acts like the school bully. When he's able to just be himself, he isn't afraid to not sit with the popular crowd and will actually just eat with his buddies. Still, he values his status in school and doesn't want to ever lose a real game since he takes that to heart. His grades are pretty bad, but it's due to him spending so much time at practice and training. He has no clubs and basically no life outside of this because of Spitelout being an overbearing and sucky dad.

Ruffnut and Tuffnut: They're the class clowns. Their grades are constantly as low as possible without actually flunking because they secretly could do great, but they want to annoy teachers. They're the epitome of using their energy in the wrong ways. Undercover geniuses who'd rather find the best method for making stink bombs. Every chance they get, they're pranking some student or teacher. You'll find them at the front of the class just so they can irritate the poor instructor more with questions they already know the answer to. They're not in sports because no one will let them involve boars, so they're not interested. They're only in clubs started by their friends. They also have a YouTube channel where they do dangerous stunts.

Throk: He's another jock, but I think he'd become a coach's assistant. He takes his studies very seriously and offers tutoring, but he intimidates most of the younger kids, so he never gets many pupils. Snotlout might alternate between getting tutored by him and Fishy, but that's about it. Teachers love him because he's great with authority figures and is always trying to get the others back in line. This leads to him getting verbally picked on a bit by those in his grade since they think he's a teacher's pet. No one invites him to parties, but his friends make sure he never feels excluded in things they do.

Heather: She's in some of the teams with Astrid, but she doesn't do as many. She does soccer and more of the graceful activities like ballet and gymnastics. She's a pretty good student and also does some tutoring, but not for Snotlout since he wouldn't stop flirting last time (even though he apologized). She's known as the sweet girl in school and is pretty popular because of that. Her fiery side comes out on the soccer field. She can get obsessed with projects and will normally be asked to help set up events for the school, which she takes very seriously. She's not one for parties, but sometimes, her friends talk her into them and she has a fun time solely because of them.

Mala: She's the class president and basically right under the principal. Because of that, some students are terrified of her. She's a no-nonsense person, but she's more fair than most give her credit for being. She tries to help the students who are struggling and keeps an eye out for anyone who looks like they're being mistreated. She's an excellent student and cannot fathom receiving less than 100% on assignments. She wants to join some teams, but she has too much time that she spends caring for injured and sick animals. She also volunteers at soup kitchens, but only her friends know this. Other people think she's a bit cold, but her friends help her reputation change.

Dagur: He's the one most of the students really try to avoid. They are horrified with the idea of being alone with him. Somehow, he's always getting into trouble. He isn't always trying to cause trouble, but it keeps happening. Despite what everyone thinks, he's actually a really good student because he thinks good grades will give his family something to be proud of him for. So, he's the only A student who's always in detention. He's normally in a fight and is the person bullies are scared of since he doesn't tolerate that being directed towards his friends. This put Snotlout in his line of fire for a while, but they're cool now. They were very not cool when Snotlout flirted with Heather, but a few death glares later and they're buds again. He's in no sports teams because he got banned after tackling someone in basketball and not stopping when his wrestling opponent tried to tap out (he misunderstood the rules). He's in his friends' clubs and winds up starting one of his own for the other troubled kids.

Still working on a title for this - just wrote it spontaneously because if I didn't the ideas would evaporate. I'll probably post a more polished version on AO3 soon. TW for implied references to sexual assault:

When Dagur saw him in the marketplace, his heart stopped. He thought he was going to die. Then a moment later, his heart was racing. He fought for breath, and though he inhaled and exhaled at a rapid speed, he felt like he was suffocating. One moment, he was standing, and then next, he was on the ground, propped up against a stall while his sister spoke gently to him.

Was he alright? What happened? Who was that man?

Dagur couldn't speak. But the look in his eye was enough for Heather to understand. The pain, the shame, it was all clear as day. They'd spoken about this man before.

As soon as realization struck her, Heather was standing, hand on her weapon, knuckles white with fury.

No, Dagur pleaded, uncharacteristically shying away from conflict. He wanted to leave this behind, to forget.

The man was already disappearing into the crowd. He hadn't noticed them and whistled contentedly as he went about his errands. Heather seethed. The monster had ruined her brother's life and had the gall to walk around in the sunlight, enjoying a life he didn't deserve. But her brother's eyes called her back from her rage. He needed her now. The destroyer could wait...for the time being.

Arne was intrigued by the maiden with the raven hair the second their eyes met. The tavern was dark and loud, but through the shadows and above the din, something about her called to him. She didn't shy away from him the way other women and many of the younger men did. Perhaps she wasn't aware of his history, of his former occupation as a prison guard. All the better, he thought. When she approached him, he felt like a wolf being courted by a deer–for she was almost fawn-like, with slender limbs and an innocent face; by the end of the night, he would find that he was sorely mistaken.

By the time they arrived to his quarters, Arne was full of ale, boisterous and slurring. He didn't usually drink so much when looking for someone to take to his bed, but he found the maiden's constant urges to drink irresistible.

A little more? She'd ask with a small smile. Her lashes batted familiar green eyes as she poured him another tankard. Gods, you could beat Aegir at drinking couldn't you?

Hells yes, he thought. Though as he stumbled to his room above the tavern, he wondered if perhaps he'd had a little too much. Though it didn't seem to matter. This one clearly wanted him and wouldn't put up a fight.

When they collapsed onto his bed, the raven-haired maiden told him that she had a surprise for him. Close your eyes, she said softly. He chuckled and did as he was told, savouring the image of those enthralling green eyes. Some thing about them was so familiar...

And it didn't occur to him until it was too late.

By the time he opened his own eyes again to gaze into hers, she'd driven a needle of Speedstinger venom into his neck. She was out of reach as his hands made their last panicked movements in her direction. Then he was frozen still.

Arne, she crooned, head titled to the side, I've heard so much about you.

Arne tried to speak but could only moan. His strangled voice sounded alien to his own ears.

The raven-haired woman loomed over him, holding a knife in her hand. Some small part of him hoped that this was some sort of game: perhaps she was the type who enjoyed pain and pleasure as a pair...but in truth, he knew better.

What do you want with me? He tried to say, but the words stuck in the back of his sluggish mouth.

The woman seemed to understand.

I came to give you a little greeting from one of your former inmates.

The hairs on the back of his neck raised.

Dagur the Deranged...I'm sure you remember him?

Arne searched his memories, trying to recall...he'd seen so many...he'd taken so many. Had it been the angry young one with red hair and...yes. Those green eyes. The same ones staring back at him now. All the seduction had faded away. Her hatred brought out the resemblance.

My brother, the woman said through gritted teeth. I know what you did to him. She leaned closer and brought her mouth to his ear. She dragged her blade lightly down his abdomen and ended between his legs. I'm going to make sure you never do it to anyone again.

Arne tried to shake his head, to kick his legs, to scream. Nothing happened.

And honestly Arne, depending on my mood...The woman raised a brow. When I'm finished, there might not be enough of you left to do anything at all.

So the Rtte episode "Family on the Edge" is basically "Family Feuds: the episode", right? But it's not just Dagur and Heather, it's more than that. It's Dagur, Heather, and Hiccup.

Heather is already angry at Dagur for his past crimes, but then she gets angry at Hiccup for hiding Dagur and she feels betrayed by him.

Dagur is annoyed at first because Hiccup didn't tell the other Dragon Riders that he saved his and Toothless' lives and then he gets upset again because Hiccup hid Heather from him just like he hid Dagur from Heather.

And then, Dagur gets mad at Hiccup again because he doesn't want Heather involved in a suicide mission.

What happens after Dagur is imprisoned for finding out about their current mission? You guessed it! Heather is giving Hiccup her "I told you so"s about Dagur potentially being a spy when it looks like Dagur broke out.

In the meantime, Hiccup is trying to keep Dagur away from Heather while trying to change Heather's view on Dagur.

He's also the one to notice when Heather calls Dagur her brother at the end of the episode, when it appears like Dagur sacrificed himself to save Heather and the Dragon Riders.

Basically, this episode is these three getting into difficult family drama with Hiccup as the baby sibling caught in the middle who just wants to keep the peace and keep his other two siblings from hurting each other.

There's just a lot of sibling-esque in fighting between these three in particular. And this is made particularly obvious when Dagur calls Hiccup "our little brother".

I finished watching RTTE and I am. Emotional

#GAHFHHH…I don’t know what to do with myself rn.#I’ll probably rewatch some of my fave episodes bc I don’t think I’m ready to be done with it yet 🤧#I WILL say tho the ending was uhhh #Pretty rushed. Lol #They had maybe 2-3 minutes to wrap it up #When instead they probably could have used an entire episode #Dedicated to various things.#i.e. The Dragon Riders coming to terms with saying goodbye to the Edge.#Mala and Dagur’s wedding.#Stoick regaining consciousness and his reunion with Hiccup.#VALKA’S CAMEO?? HELLO???#Yeah they could have easily stretched out all of that into one epilogue episode for sure #Also I’m. I’m kinda bummed they dropped Fishlegs/Heather bc they were SO cute #AND SNOTLOUT/MINDEN #He literally shouted ‘THAT’S MY GIRL!!’ when she showed up in the final fight 😭#But yeah I’ve never really been a fan of Fishlegs/Ruffnut? Hiccup's real accomplishment wasn't, in fact, the unprecedented training of a night fury and the way he changed the entire archipelago, but the fact that he was able to survive three movies, eight seasons of a show, 10 comics of varying lengths, and 3 or 4 specials being followed around by the five BIGGEST dumbasses in the entire archipelago.

I found well represents a headcanon I have for Dagur the Deranged.

It’s a fact that Dagur regretted what he did to Heather, but I have lately been thinking more of that and how much it might’ve affected him, leading me to the headcanon…

“But I missed you more than I thought I would”

Perhaps for a while Dagur was fine with having set his sister adrift, but his father was already gone, and he didn’t have a mother, so he had sent his only family away, probably to die on the open ocean.

So he must’ve been relieved to see her alive. And although he was her enemy…but ever since he saw her again, that was when his behavior started to change

“Oh, and I found love where it wasn’t supposed to be. Right in front of me”

So I believe that the weight taken off of his chest at seeing his sister again, and at knowing he could fight for someone other than himself is what created his redemption arc.

It’s been almost nine years and I still get furious every time I think about how Race to the Edge killed off Heather’s entire adopted family and tribe, and then said her revenge plan was bad and swept them all under the rug so Dagur could have his redemption arc without ever coming to terms with having committed mass murder

#after a certain point the show makes it seem like heather forgot about them entirely #by the time they actually reconcile she’s only angry with dagur about things related to their biological family and early childhood #at least that’s how i remember it #dagur was the writers’ little meow meow and it came at heather’s expense #did she ever get to grieve them?#did they ever let her show any emotion about them that wasn’t also about dagur?#she deserved better as a character #as does the representation of adopted families compared to biological ones #not going to tag this properly #my holding onto resentment at an almost decade old mid spinoff cartoon is my problem #not the fandom’s #queenly quips

Berserker Mom

(Early Mother's Day post) I often find myself wondering why Dagur and Heather's mom was just never mentioned. Ever. We don't even know her name. I feel bad for her because she obviously existed, but it's like she had no impact on their lives at all. They go out of their way to try to find Oswald, but we don't even get a quick throwaway line about her. In my headcanon, I think she's a redhead like Dagur (mainly because I get bored when animated sons have to look like their dads and daughters have to look like their moms). I'm guessing that she died since we don't see her anywhere and I am really hoping she would've tried to stop Dagur from starting a war if she was still around. I have a handful of ideas about her that I've used in various fanfics or just kept in my head.

Some include her being really brave. She was a natural warrior and died trying to protect others. It's a noble end at least and she's still revered by her Vikings. In the same veins, she could also have been a kind healer who died when an illness got her too while she was busy caring for everyone else.

Another idea I've had for her is that she's where Dagur gets his deranged side from. Maybe she didn't fit in with the calm crowd on Berserker Island either and she left, getting taken out by some enemy Vikings afterwards.

It's also possible she died from heartbreak after Heather was sent adrift. This hurt her so much that she couldn't keep going and just began to wither away.

Then there are au versions which can pretty much be anything. I've had her stay alive and leave with Heather since Oswald was a jerk, get killed by Oswald, and get killed in a car accident.

I really do wish we knew literally anything about her outside of the fact that she gave birth to the brother and sister. We technically don't even know if she and Oswald were married. Maybe she liked their time together, but she didn't want kids, so she'd keep giving them to Oswald to raise. I could probably continue going, but it really is a shame to me that we never got to know anything about her.

dagur was bullied as a kid by a guy 8 years older than him who literally tattooed an imagine of him beating up little dagur in his arm??? What was that all about

actually we need to talk about how messed up everything about dagur is and about how the things that could've/did happen(ed) to him may be the reasons why he's Like That

just why was he imprisoned by the outcasts??? he didn't do anything to them directly

there's a technically musical episode

tuffnut became hiccup's defense attorney and immediately got him the death sentence

hiccup regularly jumps off cliffs

he also jumped off a boat, with his arms tied and without toothless. just where did he think he was going

snotlout's annoying attitude is actually because spitelout pressures him too much and he feels like he has to be perfect for his dad :((

there was a beach episode turned murder mystery and a musical episode held at gun point

hiccup has a whole little speech that he periodically gives astrid to remind her that the twins serve a purpose
