Thank you!
I can't help but get annoyed when people judge others for their ships or headcanons - it's one thing to think something is strange/disturbing/not for you, but to effectively say: "you're playing pretend with these imaginary characters wrong" is just astounding
If you don't like it -- ignore, even block if you feel the need to. But calling people out for their imaginations working differently than your own is so strange.
You don't get brownie points for having more restraint with your dolls or playing with them the "right" way.
Must admit that one thing that changed the way I see fandom discourse is realizing that a lot of fandom is just… playing with dolls. We're playing with dolls. Shipping? Playing with dolls. AUs? Dolls. Darkfic? Dolls.
Lotta people very agitated about the other kids playing with dolls wrong.

Fandom Problem #4403:
Do fanpol know that most "normal people" are capable of watching / reading problematic or questionable content, properly identifying certain parts are problematic or questionable, going "yeaahh that part was a little yikes" then continue on watching / reading as normal without having a meltdown over it or accusing the author and every other person who's read / watched and enjoys it an any capacity of endorsing every single action and idea presented in the work?
Sometimes its necessary to go "yikes" and then move on with your fucking life. If the "yikes" is TOO Yikes for you to continue on, that's totally fine, but don't act like everyone else having a higher Yikes tolerance think everything is absolutely fine.

There is something about proudly proclaiming a show "tumblrista catnip" that makes me emotional.
Something about how for years tumblrinas were ridiculed by show creators.
Something about Supernatural having a meta episode set at a convention with all the weirdo fans that made the main characters uncomfortable. Something something about Becky and the message that fangirls are gross and obsessive.
Something about Sherlock and the way fans were portrayed as crazy obsessive nutjobs for trying to figure out how he faked his death.
Something about creators mocking fandoms, dismissing them as freaks. Something about queer people not being welcome to engage in their creations because "why do you have to make everything gay?"
Something about the malicious culture of queerbaiting throughout the 2000s/2010s, followed by Bury Your Gays tropes across the media landscape because hell, you should be grateful we even gave you queer characters to begin with - and everyone dies in our show! You ain't special!
Something about Destiel questions being banned from conventions...
And then...
Something instead about Good Omens, and letting the story adapt naturally, embracing the fanbase and leaning into the fanservice.
Something about Our Flag Means Death, and the genuine outpouring of love and affection between cast, crew, and fandom that culminated in an explosion of fanworks that were never once mocked or deemed gross or wrong.
Something about Sandman, and staunchly digging in their heels on the queerness of it all, refusing to give in to the homophobes and instead avidly mocking THEM on social media rather than us.
Something about the writers hearing about fandoms favourite ships and excitedly stating that YES! We DID lean into that because it happened naturally and made sense.
Something about a firefighter coming out as bisexual after 7 seasons...
So yeah, something about a new high quality show made FOR US. By creators that love US. Respect US, and WANT our love.
Something about US FINALLY being a target audience for the best shows being made on TV now.
Tumblrista catnip. Creators saying "we made this for you. You are important. Your voices have been heard."
It just... all got a bit overwhelming for a moment there.

im so grateful for the existence of the httyd shows because without them fishlegs, snotlout and the twins would just be quirky side characters there to fill out the movies' casts. but the shows got to give them so much development and attention and now the dragon riders are one of my favourite found familys ever.
oh to be a rider on the edge, watching hiccup and fishlegs geeking out, snotlout avoiding astrid's axe and the twins finding something else to explode. and then they all enjoy heather's mutton chops together. i love them <333

Being a young adult is so strange. You enter a coffee shop. The 20 year old girl waiting behind you cried all night because she just came to a new city for university and she feels so alone. That 27 year old guy over there works a job he is overqualified for, he lives with his parents and wants to move out but doesn't know what to do about it. That one 24 year old dude already has a car, a house, and a job waiting for him once he graduates thanks to his dad's connections. The 26 year old barista couldn't complete his higher education because he has to work and take care of his family. The 28 year old girl sitting next to you has no friends to go out with so she is texting her mother. That couple (both 25 years old) are married and the girl is pregnant. The 29 year old writing something on her laptop has realized that she chose the wrong major so she is trying to start all over. We are not alone in this, but we are actually so alone. Do you feel me

I realise that ageism in fandom is, in the grand scheme of things, the least concerning thing about the fandom experience but I need to say this: all you baby adults on here need to calm down and let the real grown adults have their fun too without you hopping in their ask box’s calling them names. You’re going to get old too, okay? The years pass, you will hit thirty and beyond at some point and that’s a good thing! And when you do, you’ll still want to look at pictures of your blorbos and talk to strangers about who you want them to fuck and how they should do it. Life is hard enough right now, getting old and having a job/family/kids/responsibilities won’t change your love of fiction. I just hope that when you do hit those milestones, you will be allowed to do so in peace without being shamed for it by some terrified idiot hiding behind the anon feature.
