I've been thinking about the tragedy of Elizabeth Woodville living to see the death of her family name.
I don't mean her family with her husband, which lived on through her daughter and grandson. I mean her own.
Her sisters died, one by one, many of them after 1485. When Elizabeth died, only Katherine was left, and she would die before the turn of the century as well.
All her brothers died, too. Lewis died in childhood. John was executed. Anthony was murdered. Lionel died suddenly in the peak of Richard's reign, unable to see his niece become queen. Edward perished at war. Richard died in grieving peace. For all the violence and judgement the family endured, it was "an accident of biology" that ended their line: none of the brothers left heirs, and the Woodville name was extinguished. We know the family was aware of this. We know they mourned it, too:
“Buy a bell to be a tenor at Grafton to the bells now there, for a remembrance of the last of my blood.”
Elizabeth lived through the deposition and death of her young sons, and lived to see the end of her own family name. It must have been such a haunting loss, on both sides.
#(the quote is by Richard Woodville in his deathbed will; he was the last of the Woodville brothers to die)#elizabeth woodville#woodvilles#my post#to be clear I am not arguing that the death of an English gentry family name is some kind of giant tragedy (it absolutely the fuck is not)#I'm trying to put it into perspective with regards to what Elizabeth may have felt because we know her family DID feel this way#writing this kinda reminded me of how I am just not fond at all about the way Elizabeth's experiences in 1483-85 are written about#and the way lots so many of the unprecedentedly horrifying aspects are overlooked or treated so casually:#the seizure and murder of two MINOR sons and the illegal execution of another;#her sheer vulnerability in every way compared to all her queenly predecessors; how she was harassed by 'dire threats' for months;#how she had 5 very young daughters with her to look after at the time (Bridget and Katherine were literally 3 and 4 years old);#how unprecedented Richard's treatment of her was: EW was the first queen of england to be officially declared an adulteress;#and the first and ONLY queen to be officially accused of witchcraft#(Joan of Navarre was accused of her treason; she was never explicitly accused of witchcraft on an official level like EW was)#the first crowned queen of england to have her marriage annulled; and the first queen to have her children officially bastardized#what former queens endured through rumors* were turned into horrifying realities for her.#(I'm not trying to downplay the nightmare of that but this was fundamentally on a different level altogether)#nor did Elizabeth get a trial or appeal to the church. like I cannot emphasize this enough: this was not normal for queens#and not normal for depositions. ultimately what Richard did *was* unprecedented#and of course let's not forget that Elizabeth had literally just been unexpectedly widowed like 20 days before everything happened#I really don't feel like any of this is emphasized as much as it should be?#apart from the horrifying death of her sons - but most modern books never call it murder they just write that they 'disappeared'#and emphasize that ACTUALLY we don't know what happened to them (this includes Arlene Okerlund)#rather than allowing her to have that grief (at the very least)#more time is spent dealing with accusations that she was a heartless bitch or inconsistent intriguer for making a deal with Richard instead#it also feels like a waste because there's a lot that can be analyzed about queenship and R3's usurpation if this is ever explored properly#anyway - it's kinda sad that even after Henry won and her daughter became queen EW didn't really get a break#her family kept dying one by one and the Woodville name was extinguished. and she lived to see it#it's kinda heartbreaking - it was such a dramatic rise and such a slow haunting fall#makes for a great story tho

The master is not utilizing me properly! I will show my "Master" how information collecting is done!
Noticing how GIR’s motivations in GIR Goes Crazy and Stuff and ZIM’s motivations in ETF are so similar.
GIR (when he’s competent) knows that ZIM doesn’t understand his potential and sets out to prove himself to ZIM.
When ZIM learns the Tallest don’t see his potential and don’t care about Earth, he sets out to make them care and prove himself (ETF is also really similar in motivation to Backseat Drivers from Beyond the Stars too).
Conclusion: ZIM is to GIR what the Tallest are to ZIM. There are a lot of little parallels highlighted in GIR Goes Crazy like ZIM giving GIR “fake” or meaningless tasks like watching TV to keep him out of the way the mirroring how the Tallest give ZIM his fake Earth mission.

i might have bought three more plants today. i have almost 90 plants now. i start my new job day after tomorrow and im like. more money for more plants right. im thinking of getting a cabinet...... for plants. plpllnants... :)

I literally thought about this the entire time... unfortunately... like. Blake wincing at a comment Weiss made. that line just now in todays episode..
THERES SO MANY MOMENTS WHERE I THOUGHT ABOUT ADAM THIS VOLUME SO FAR... I was live blogging the last episode and I posted this few aka Weiss comment I was talking about:

like... girl you are thinking about something. you have to be. like clearly obviously the event in v6 is still bothering her and still hasn't left her mind.
that's clear because they've only talked about him like. once. not even directly. they don't talk about him directly ever. in the scene where they were talking about him in v7...
whole conversation:
Yang: He didn't have a lot of good options. (abt ironwood ig?)
Blake: I'm not sure there are many good options left for any of us, anymore. Keeping secrets, *taking lives? It makes you wonder how far we're going to have to go to keep doing.. the right thing..

Are they still hinting at how this still bothers Blake in this volume?? Since they've done it in v7 or is that out the window? Things still haven't gotten better in regards to what Blake was worried about in this original scene. in fact they've gotten worse (we know).. but she isn't talking about it. NONE of them are even talking about it..
So many people have died!! yet the last few episodes all of the characters are like "oh, another time." and "i don't wanna talk about this right now." GIRL YOU HAVE EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF THE MINUTE OF THE DAY TO TALK ABOUT THIS.
All of them are worried about the same shit.. and don't want to do their worst but ohhh that cannot be avoided because they're not even speaking about it at all.

Tbh I haven't really gotten Adam vibes from anything this season other than the hilarious hypocrisy of Yang's line, but I also haven't been looking for them. Didn't notice Blake's wince at that line either. Maybe it's about Adam? But with how he is apparently The Character Who Shall Not Be Named now, I don't see them doing much with him and particular his relationship with Blake, so who even knows what Blake was thinking about in that moment.
Unless you count Blake's uncharacteristic shyness, meekness, and fear of everything around her as Trauma about Adam that's only resurfaced after *checks notes* an indeterminate amount of time after killing him with her own hands.

just read latest chapter and (spoilers obvs) i have to say, at least Qin Xian made sure Bai Mo was out of the way because, as I speculated in a previous post, there was NO way Bai Mo would just let him imprison Wang Yi
#also ig wang yi wouldnt be so desperate to leave since he isnt totally at fault for the accident#tho id like to think he would still work for the time travel item#actually in this case it is good because otherwise wang yi would turn back time and not know what the real cause was#anyways ig qin xian is trying to protect wang yi so he absolutely doesnt die#i would still like to see an angsty imprisonment tho#itd be ironic if wang yi was kept safe and ended up dying by his own hand bcuz of it#i have to be a great villain#i want to be a big baddie

i enjoy reigen purely out of him being horrible and pathetic, he just sucks, in a weirdly reliable way, i find that attractive
he got in a fight with a middle schooler trying to manipulate mansplain him into not having a life outside his below minimum wage job and threw a huge baby fit over it when it backfired lol. Calling him reliable may be giving him a bit too much credit.
#autism be damned my boy can work an exorcism#listen I actually like reigen but he isn’t all that reliable#he’s honestly a bit stupid in a lot of ways#listen the only reason he’s alive at all is completely absurd luck#the scene where he tells mob to just run away and not fight is iconic and a lot of fun#but my man should have absolutely died there#If mob didn’t have a deus ex machina moment reigen would be deader than disco#and telling a super powered kid to not use his super powers to save everyone’s life from a super powered enemy force is#I mean it isn’t a great plan really#good for the mental health of the boy but his friends and mentor dying would be pretty bad for the mental health of the boy#so I feel like it balances out there#I do sincerely love that scene but it isn’t exactly a realistic outcome in that scenario

#my bad girl the Cramps suddenly ended my life and i started acting reeeeaaalllly weird out of absolutely nowhere in the span of like 2 min#please don’t ever bring it up i was going through it alright#peach rambles#also. three weeks into this media writing journalism class and i’m learning so much about common grammatical redundancies#which is great except i’m also starting to really love using some of these redundant speech patterns on purpose as a style#e.g. ‘dying and passing away’. that’s a great phrase i love talking like that i love doing that on tumblr
