So I finally managed a full month of Inktober

I've been off and on tinkering with art in my adult life for I think close to a decade at this point. So often it's never really felt natural. I'd blame my supplies, and lack of tools, my hands, my temperament. I'd take long breaks, sometimes even going up to a year having given up. Over the last six years I've tried to make the more dedicated push, to practice and learn.

Inktober has always been something of a specter. Something artists did, not me. I've even tried my hand at it a few times, my best previous attempt being in 2019. I managed 11 days, and even at the time couldn't be proud of more than maybe two of them. I've never been comfortable with the black and white inked aesthetic, which I know isn't necessary, but keeps on theme, and my art has often been a matter of spending many hours on a piece, not something that can be easily managed every day. Of course this year I did it.

I'm not the happiest with every piece, but that's not the point. For one full month, I managed to put stylus to tablet, and walk away with a finished piece. Some were humorous, some were spicy, some fitting the theme were spooky. Some were lazy, but they still got done.

So what was different? The biggest help was friends. I reached out to two of my friends that also do art and drafted them in to doing it with me. Any pain could be shared, and victories celebrated. I also took the time once I finished a prompt to look at the next in line, letting it percolate in my head for a full day before actually finishing it. Being a more experienced and confident artist helped as well, but I don't want to overvalue that, especially when a lot of that "confidence" and "becoming a better artist" was present towards the end of the challenge after daily practice for a month.

If you're wondering if you should try it next year, grab some friends, even if they are at different points in their journey, or work in different mediums or styles, and go for it.

Dracula Daily completely changed my opinion on Dracula. When I read it for funsies in college god was that really 10+ years ago?! I didn’t like it. I remember saying that there was no suspense thanks to the cultural knowledge of Dracula being a vampire. Maybe trying to read gothic lit while already taking classes with heavy reading loads was a bit much. Maybe it was the lack of a group discussion that made me miss the suspense. Or maybe I just needed to be a little older. I’m not sure.

I think this crazy book club of ours helped me understand what I missed on my first go around. My fingers are crossed that there’s a similar experience when Frankenstein Weekly starts! (Another book I read around the same time and was disappointed with.) If not, I’ll always look back fondly on our shared obsession with our blorbo from our emails ❤️

Side Couple Supremacy: A LOOK BACK at FORTH & BEAM

Yes, there were supposedly 3 Main Couples and there were PHANA & YO, MING & KIT and FORTH & BEAM. But let's get real 2 Moons and 2MOONS2 had a main couple and that was PHANA & YO. Surely everyone had their faves. I liked them all but I LOVED FORTH & BEAM. The Characters. The Actors. FORTH & BEAM WERE ALL THE RAGE FOR ME. THE CHEMISTRY WAS FIRE.

FORTH was played by NARET PROMPHAOPUN aka PAVEL

BEAM was played by WORANART RATTHANAPHAST aka DOME

Bonus:

Although Forth and Beam never reach couple status or even a hookup in 2 Moons Season 1. As Forth was enamored by Phana's Boy Wayo.

A LOOK BACK at BBOMB & JIN

NITIMAN: THE SERIES (2021, THAILAND)

The road to love for BBomb (PHOULUANG THONGPRASERT aka NOH) and his crush Jin (THANATHORN KHUANKAEW aka JOM) was a rocky one.

Beginning with Jin's relationship with Bbomb's manipulative cousin Aim. As she (AIM) seemingly stole Bbomb's crush from the beginning and her subsequent guilt and trying to correct her mistake by micro managing everyone around her to get Bbomb and Jin together.

Bbomb was often mean mugging (in my opinion) but his love for Jin was definitely solid (the reason for his love was a bit weak but we all for our special someone for varying reasons)

I often thought Keam (SARUN BOONMONGKOL aka KONG) was into Jin or BBomb with his cloak and dagger lingering watching them although he always lost his sh*t when that baby faced college freshman appeared in his orbit.

But ultimately Jin did find love with BBomb, not the best BL by any means..yet it holds a special place in my heart.

as a kid i thought i would graduate from kid problems like cleaning my room to adult problems like jobs and taxes. but instead i have a job and taxes and still have to clean my room. cleaning my room is a lifetime problem. i will never stop having to put my markers away before bedtime. this is a rude way for aging to work.

i used to be so good at writing strong, thoroughly-researched, thoroughly-edited essays.

as a kid in hs, my teacher literally came up to me, holding my 40 page essay on the intersection of the European witch hunts and capitalism/exploitation/gender roles (it was supposed to be 7 pages...whoops) and went like "this is literally a master's-degree level thesis. what are you doing?? you could literally use this as your final dissertation in a master's program, what the fuck."

NOW??? NOW?? you'd think I'd be oh so skilled. but alas. i can barely piece together two ideas. adhd skill-regression is so so real. im SOBBING
