also; can the ryders fucking breathe? what was the point of having this whole revelation about judd? i get that it’s a dramatic series but still, they’ve barely had three scenes with their daughter and now they have to deal with judd having a teenage son

I can’t wait to see Carlos become a full fledged detective. He’s going to be amazing at it.

I am loving the Detective Carlos possibilities but if it happens and we don’t get at least one line of TK mentioning he’s going to miss the uniform what even is the point

Dancing ‘Round the Kitchen
Fandom: 911 Lone Star
Characters: Carlos Reyes, T.K. Strand
Rating: G
Summary: Some little moments to fill in the events of 3x05 "Child Care."
Read on AO3
T.K. wakes up alone in a cold bed. He wakes up alone and immediately panics. Because for a moment his brain sets itself back three months and he thinks he’s waking up alone in his dad’s guest room, his life once again a wreck of his own making.
It takes several seconds and a number of deep breaths to orient himself and remember that no, he’s not at his dad’s, his relationship is healing, and that although Carlos isn’t presently in this bed, it is in fact one that they share every night.
Which then begs the question, where has his boyfriend wandered off to?
Carlos is generally a sound sleeper, but once in a while he’ll wake up in the night unable to fall back asleep. T.K. can usually find him on the couch, dozing with a book on his chest.
So that’s where T.K. heads tonight. But instead of a half asleep Carlos, he finds a fully awake, staring at his laptop in the dark, Carlos.
His hair is mussed, curls slightly unruly, like he’s run his fingers through them a couple times, and he’s wearing his glasses. T.K. loves his glasses. He looks like a hotter version of Clark Kent when he wears them.
He makes an adorable picture, but as T.K. gets closer he can see that his boyfriend is wearing his serious face. Well, one of his many serious faces. The one he reserves specifically for work related trouble. The muscles in his back are tense, he’s all pulled in on himself, a sure sign of stress, and when T.K. touches his arm he nearly jumps out of his skin.
T.K. longs to drag him back to bed, maybe massage some of the tension from his muscles, but he’s learned that when Carlos gets like this, there’s no stopping him. So instead T.K. crawls over his boyfriend and cuddles up against him on their conveniently large sofa. It takes him about ten seconds to realize why his boyfriend can’t sleep; this is so beyond horrifying it turns his stomach.
T.K. has every intention of helping, bu, being this close to Carlos, his body so warm and inviting, causes him to drift off, only to be woken out of a dead sleep hours later by Carlos’ excited shouting. T.K. barely processes what he’s saying before his boyfriend runs off for a mad dash through the shower and a desperate search for a clean undershirt. He pauses moving only long enough give T.K. a peck on the lips before he runs out the door, still buttoning his uniform.
                                           XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
T.K. comes home that night to music and the smell of tomatoes and garlic. Carlos is in the kitchen swinging his hips and singing along as he stirs a pot on the stove.
“Hey you’re home!” he says, eyes alight with happiness.
“Somebody’s in a good mood,” T.K. says, suppressing a chuckle as he walks over and goes in for a quick kiss.
Except Carlos leans into it, firm and intense, pressing him back against the counter as T.K.’s arms wrap around his neck. “Okay a really good mood,” T.K. says with a laugh when Carlos loops his free arm around T.K.’s waist, using the stirring spoon still in his hand like a microphone as his hips begin moving once more.
“Dance with me,” he urges.
“You know I can’t dance,” T.K. says with a groan.
“Please?” Carlos says, his voice pleading as he pulls T.K. closer and buries his face in his neck. “I’ll make it worth your while.”
T.K. rolls his eyes, but lets his body sway along with his boyfriend. “Fine. But only because I love you.”
Carlos sets down the spoon and grabs both of his hands, pulling and pushing him gently back and forth. T.K. catches sight of his boyfriend’s grin and feels his own spreading across his face. It’s hard to resist Carlos’ charm, even as he’s tripping over his own two feet.
Carlos sings along with the words of the song, putting as much passion into it as he can and T.K. laughs at his over-the-top antics as he pulls T.K.’s hands back up around his neck so they’re closer together, rotating on the spot. T.K. does his best to keep up as Carlos sways. “As ridiculous as I feel, this is incredibly sexy,” he says finally.
“Oh, I know,” Carlos tells him with a grin. “My parents used to dance in the kitchen all the time. They say it’s the secret to the success of their marriage.”
“My parents definitely did not,” T.K. says. “Their relationship was more…business-like I guess.”
Carlos twirls him around and T.K. catches a glimpse of what’s on the stove. “Are you making risotto?”
Carlos nods, face scrunched up in passion as he belts out the chorus. “Wow we’re really celebrating,” T.K. says, heart all mushy over how clearly happy his boyfriend is right now. “Are you going to tell me why?”
“During dinner,” Carlos says, finally breaking his song and dance routine.
“Do I have time to shower first?”
“You do. But be quick, we need to eat this while it’s hot.” Carlos gives him another firm kiss before turning back to the stove.
They sit down twenty minutes later, the risotto steaming, the crispy shrimp on top adding a little flair to the presentation. Carlos has outdone himself as usual.
As T.K. takes his first bite Carlos launches into the kidnapping tale, talking fast and skipping absolutely no detail. It quickly becomes clear why he’s so elated. “Well I’m sorry my dad kind of stole your thunder,” T.K. says in amusement when Carlos is finished. “He tends to find the spotlight.”
Carlos shakes his head. “It doesn’t matter as long as the girl is safe. And honestly, I’m just glad I wasn’t arresting him. Or rushing him to the hospital for a stab wound.”
That’s Carlos. Absolutely zero ego. It’s one of the things T.K. loves about him. He takes pride in his job, but he never lets it blind him.
“I’m so proud of you,” T.K. says, setting down his fork to reach across the table and slide his fingers between Carlos’. “You saved that kid.”
Carlos hesitates for a moment and then says, “At the hospital Washington asked if I’d ever considered taking the detective exam.”
“Seriously?” T.K. asks. “That’s amazing! You would make an incredible detective!”
Carlos gives him a shy, tentative smile. “You think so?”
“Babe, yes,” T.K. says. “The way you went after this case, who knows what would have happened if you hadn’t followed your instincts.”
“I’ve thought about it before,” Carlos says. “But I don’t know, it would be really different from being a beat cop.”
“Carlos, you found me when I thought for sure Tommy, Nancy, and I were all dead. Other people deserve to have you searching for them. Their families should have the hope you can bring them,” T.K. says earnestly. “You should definitely do it.”
“Thanks,” Carlos says, finally taking a bite of his now cooled risotto. “I’m considering it.”
“I support whatever you want,” T.K. tells him. “But also it would be very hot to hear you called Detective Reyes.”
This causes a massive grin on Carlos’ face. “It does have a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?”
Carlos’ elated mood lasts about fifteen more minutes and then T.K. watches the adrenaline crash and lack of sleep slowly start to take him down. He’s still smiling and happy, but he’s beginning to droop a little bit, like a cheery daisy that hasn’t been watered in a while.
“Go to bed,” T.K. orders as he washes the dishes after their meal is done.
His boyfriend is attempting to help even though T.K. is perfectly capable of doing dinner clean up on his own. Carlos is drying the same bowl three times and his eyes have gone slightly unfocused. T.K. has always teased him about needing a full eight hours, but it’s becoming very apparent that Carlos adheres to a rigid sleep schedule for a reason.
T.K.’s voice brings him around a bit. He yawns and blinks a few times. “No, I’m good. Let’s just finish up and then I’ll go.”
“Carlos.” T.K. turns off the water and gently tugs the bowl from his hands. “You’re falling asleep on your feet. Just go to bed, I’ll take care of the rest of this.”
“Come with me,” Carlos says, wrapping his arms around T.K.’s waist and laying his head on his shoulder.
T.K. raises his eyebrows. “Go to bed without finishing the dishes? Andrea would be appalled. Being a detective has clearly already gone to your head.”
Carlos just makes a sort of low, grumbly sound and T.K. accepts that his boyfriend is going to have to be put to bed. He puts down the bowl and dries his hands. “Come on. Bedtime.”
He walks Carlos to their bedroom, helping him out of his clothes and into a pair of sweatpants. By the time he finds a t-shirt in the drawer Carlos is already curled up on his pillow, eyes closed, so T.K. decides he can without it for one night. He’s never minded having his boyfriend shirtless in bed next to him anyway.
He sinks down onto the edge of the bed and runs his fingers through Carlos’ curls. “You are so incredible,” he says quietly.
The only response is a soft exhale and Carlos nuzzling a little closer to him. It’s all right. T.K. will tell him again in the morning. And again every day for the rest of their lives.

911 Lone Star Spoilers
Thoughts about Wyatt character/storyline under the cut:
TL; DR Off the bat (because I just finished the episode and haven't done my usual scroll through the tags. I'm sure I'll have more thoughts as I scroll through the tags and ruminate on it more) I'm annoyed and disappointed, but also intrigued???
From my perspective, given this one episode, the Wyatt story line is a lazy, uninspired choice. (Though, I can't honestly say I expect different from this show, that's not why I love and watch it.)
Plot wise, I find this pathetically unnecessary and feel that it detracts from other storylines and characters into which we could be digging deeper. Grace, Paul, Marjan, Owen, TK, Carlos, Nancy, and Tommy in particular have all just gone through some really emotionally intense, if not traumatic, experiences (never mind the stuff that happened last season that hasn't been processed effectively).
THAT SAID: if this is the story the writers want to tell, I like how they're doing it so far. Wyatt is adorable. Grace and Judd have reacted exactly how I think they would based on what we know of their characters so far. I was really pleasantly surprised because I expected the writers to write them infuriatingly OOC just for drama.
I am shocked that Judd was written to be open and honest with Grace, and that Grace was...gracious (it's the only word coming to me sorry) and kind, and angry-but-aware-it's-irrational. They each seem to be dealing with their feelings healthfully, and haven't completely shut each other out. I am shocked at how grounded and true to character/relationship the writers kept the Ryders (pun intended).
To me, this proves once again that Lone Star's strengths are in it's characters rather than it's plot lines. So, I'm still very invested.

3x05 Ratings
Network prelims have been released: 911LS scored a 0.6 with 5.005 million viewers. It was the #1 scripted network program last night in both ratings and viewership, by a wide margin.
While down quite a bit from last week’s episode (which eventually finalized at 0.8 and 6.005 million live viewers), context is important: the Winter Olympics on NBC absolutely dominated network TV last night with an 1.6 (!) rating and over 9 million live viewers during the same hour. The Bachelor, which usually wins the network ratings over LS on Monday nights, was also only able to hold a 0.6, tying us this week. It’s all relative.
It’s certainly not the trajectory that we were hoping for after last week’s incredible showing, but it was to be expected and does not mean the show is any sort of danger/peril. In fact, maintaining the numbers that it did in the face of the NBC juggernaut is worth celebrating! Hopefully, once the Olympics have wrapped up, LS will see a rise in numbers again.
