Making Sims 2 University Fun: my personal guide

I've noticed that while it's probably one of the most utilized of the expansions, TS2's university is generally seen as a slog. Which makes sense. It has a completely different gameplay loop than the rest of the game. But it's very handy to send your sims to college, especially if you use any of the various mods that limit careers based on education. So here's my big guide to making university an actual fun experience to play through (to me, at least).

The university expansion is, uh, very tailored to the 2000s college party time animal-house tropes. the pack becomes more fun when you treat it that way and let your sims be stupid young adults who streak and fool around on campus and throw parties. which, by default, is tricky because of the gameplay that requires so much skill building and assignments. which the rest of this guide will also deal with.

Note: I make some pretty big changes to normal university gameplay, to the point that it does require a bit of modding and at least one instance of fooling with simpe. there's probably also easier ways to do it, and of course everything is optional. maybe you do like keeping sims in dorms for the entire time and just three-speeding trough it all.

*mods: there are a few absolute must-have mods to me.:

TwoJeff's College Adjuster. It's basically an all-in-one controller to adjust semester timing, change semesters, plus a bunch of other features. The semester timing is the most important to me.

Active Classes is still in testing, but it almost completely changes how I play college sims. Once again, I'll detail gameplay later, but actually sending your sims to class makes for a much more fun campus experience.

No College Time Progression On Community Lots: this goes hand-in-hand with the previous mod.

Community Time: IIRC you have to do a little editing in SimPE to make it work right with University - this post explains what to edit. I don't know if I'm allowed to share the exact edit I made as a download. This might seem redundant after the last mod, but there's a reason for the madness: while one group of sims are in their active classes, the other students can do things on the home lot.

Instant Pledge for Greek Houses: This one is important for greek house gameplay, which is later.

SimBlender: There's like, 500 different edits of the SimBlender, and I think all of them have the main function needed for my college gameplay, which is teleportation. You can use a comparable teleporter if you fancy.

Simlogical's University Break is another important one for me, but it's not really necessary if you don't want it. I usually give the sims one break day per season - more on that later.

Autonomous Casual Romance is not required, but it sure adds a lot of fun to your college experience. You can also do any number of professor-limiting, custom degrees, etc mods and fixes you want.

*mods i do not use: there are mods to change the number of/length of semesters, but I seem to run into issues with them so I use the college adjuster to do the same things. I also don't really use any major overhauls, or mods that make term papers faster. I did have the tuition mod for a bit but grew tired of using it.

*general timing changes: I do seven-day seasons with longer lifespans for all sims and play rotations each day. These are the things I do specifically for university:

Four semesters: I only do semesters 2, 4, 6, and 8. Every time a new semester starts, I just use the College Adjuster to set the correct semester for each sim. I use the default length of 72 hours.

Synchronized finals: I use the College adjuster to reset the timer so the finals are all around 6-8am, and synchronized for each sim on a lot. This makes it easier to keep track of timing and skills. Also, all sims in university run on the same 3-day semester. Finals are the same day for the entire college each round. Once again, that just makes it easier for me to keep track of college-wide events for gameplay reasons.

Because this means there's 3 days per school year, and two school years per season week, it syncs better if they get a day off every Sunday using the University break mod.

Teens are sent to college on the same schedule. I send teens to school when they have 14 days or so left, with maybe an extra day or two if the college is currently in the middle of the semester.

*Gameplay: living situations: Here's where the meat begins. Now all your sims are on the same college schedule, they're all being sent to school, and now they need to actually move into college. I follow a real rule a number of colleges use: Every student spends a year in the dorms. Just their freshman year, then they have to move somewhere else. I find that this gives them a chance to meet dormies, adapt to being on college, and sorta figure out what kind of young adults they are. Plus, this gives them time for joining greek houses, which will be talked about later.

I do this because I like seeing sims as their own little characters with arcs and whatever and it forces me to think about what exactly they would be doing in college. Some sims get so frustrated with the constant mess of a dorm, some sims thrive by making friends with every dormie. Sometimes they start new drama with the others they came from high school with. Nothing quite like losing your high school sweetheart to some stinky dormie, after all.

After freshmen year, the students are kicked out of the dorms. They can get an apartment, they can rent a house, they can move into a greek house if they join one. Either way, they need to live somewhere. You can let them stay in the dorms, but I prefer somewhat smaller college households and divide them accordingly. Which gets into that whole greek house situation:

*Gameplay: greek houses. I gamify the Greek houses. I play SSU in my megahood, which comes with a fraternity and sorority, and you can do whatever setup you like there if you dislike gendered houses. Or abandon them all together and ignore this section. There are a few important elements:

Freshmen cannot live in Greek houses. They can, however, pledge while living in the dorms and move in right after their finals end. This includes dormies. There are benefits to the dorm, such as free housing, more social opportunities, usually more money per household since I cheat to make the greek houses actually nice to live in with things like pools and comfortable furniture, etc.

The Greeks have to be recruiting consistently. To keep the house going, they need to constantly be bringing in new members, either playable OR dormies.

Any recruited dormies are required to move in. You can townify them after graduation if you don't really get attached to them, but every member of the house is moved in. I use the instant pledge mod to get rid of that annoying requirement where they have to hang out on the lot so long before moving in. That, and they also move in after finals. You can teleport or invite them on and just ask them to move in. Whatever you want. Then, you must set them to be sophomores. Beyond that you can do whatever. They're playable now. Have fun.

You gotta let the Greeks party. Throw toga parties all the time and use a teleporter to maximize guests. Generally, ALL members of ALL greek houses are teleported to a party by default. Add more dormies, any friends, anybody in the dorms - the kids need to recruit and the easiest way is by forcing everyone on one lot. If you have autonomy mods or realistic alcohol, sit back and watch the madness unfold.

I don't really play wants-based, so playables that join greek houses is more based on vibes or friendship with existing greek members than wants.

*Gameplay: what do you mean we have to study??? Yeah. I made it this far before even bringing up the whole point of college. This is also where it gets a little more complicated and changed up, so bear with me.

I don't do wants-based, again, so I generally just try to make sure sims are at least passing by default. Whether they go beyond a C is up to whatever. I usually try to get knowledge sims to their 4.0s or sims that just seem like they'd take it seriously to max GPA.

ACTIVE CLASSES ARE SUCH A LIFESAVER. You can use the pre-made lecture hall or make your own. Put some skill-building objects in there, and if you like flavor theme the lecture halls around majors. I have a business/gen ed building, a science lot, and an arts lot, each with two classrooms (plus the library contains a classroom). I do believe I made an edit to the mod to make the class performance go higher with active classes, as well, so attending class every day is the bare minimum to get a passing grade.

The active class lots also contain career reward skill-building objects. These are nice because your sims can request to be taught by other sims on the lot. If you have a mod that allows non-students to visit uni lots, this helps even more with faster skill-building.

Every day, I send groups of sims with similar majors to their class. If there's a mixed-major group, each sim group gets one day in active class per semester. (So if there's an economics major, a bio major, and an art major, each one attends class on a separate rotation and the others do the normal autonomous go-to-class where they leave the lot and disappear). They attend one or both of the lectures and otherwise exist on the college lot to skill-build, socialize, eat, etc.

Outside of class, sims will usually research if they're not doing great. I honestly barely bother with assignments or term papers unless the sim actually wants to do them or are aiming for a high GPA. Maybe they go hang out at the lounge or downtown to fool around. Maybe they just fester at home. Whatever they want.

*other gameplay/storytelling things: I usually will take advantage of the aspiration change after their sophomore year if I realize that their aspiration just doesn't really jive with how they act. It's realistic to me. They had many years since being like, 13 when they first had their aspiration selected. I'd like to implement more in the way of holidays/events, personally, but that's not really relevant either. I usually give them an outfit change as well, and I like to go hard with the idea that they're going through a bunch of weird fashion phases. You know you want to give them a mohawk, just for a few days, don't you? Dye their hair red? Shave it all off? Have fun with it.

All of these things combine for me, at least, to make the college years a lot more engaging/interesting and less of a slow "move to a dorm -> study -> read books -> meet needs -> graduate" loop. There's a lot more storyline development that comes from sims being able to enjoy their time as young adults, too, such as the regular polycule jealousy explosions and party fights. It serves to break up anything they had going on as teens and give them a little direction to enter adulthood with. This concludes my little mini-guide, feel free to steal all my gameplay style or just take inspiration if you please. Or ignore it all and shake your head and call me an idiot. do whatever you want forever.

Mini Detrans Challenge

Detrans challenges are always loads of fun, but I feel like I'm usually too ambitious with them. I end up with results that are so "extreme" that I just can't go through with them. That's why I'm trying a "mini detrans" challenge. My hope is that I can legit do it this time.

Every 10 notes is one hour panties.

100 notes I shave my pussy smooth.

300 notes I edge for 24 hours.

500 notes I share pics of my smooth pussy in panties. I'll count the notes in 72 hours (on the 25th of may).

eating disorder harm reduction

no one ever compiled this so that it what we are doing today. for people with eds and people whose loved ones do. please note: i’m not a doctor. this is a compilation of things from books and ed resource sites.

for people whose loved ones have an eating disorder:

try to make sure they know these things.

try not to force them to eat, they might feel uncomfortable eating in front of people. also, risk of refeeding syndrome.

if their life is in danger and you are seeking help for them, consult the person beforehand to make sure they will be safe and give them a heads-up so that they aren’t startled (especially if they’re neurodivergent! giving them notice will aid control!)

offer them ways of controlling things aside from food - practice consent, include them in conversations, don’t talk about them behind their back, compliment their makeup or hair.

be patient. the person may be irritable from lack of sleep, feelings of depression, worthlessness, etc., or malnutrition.

keep in mind that you can’t tell if someone has an eating disorder by looking at them. people of all weights do - only 17% of anorexics are underweight - and also, men and non binary people can also have eds.

general:

drink lots of water, especially if you’re drinking lots of caffeine.

drink some electrolytes at least once a week - gatorade, electrolyte tablets, coconut water, doesn’t matter, just get it into your system.

if you are getting dizzy or flushed and can feel your heart beating, quick carbs will raise your blood sugar - sweets, bread, fruit, juice, non diet soda, whatever. keep snacks around pls.

your brain uses 400-500 calories daily. eat more than this.

take your supplements!

you still need protein, have an egg or something.

don’t take adderal or insulin unless you are actually diabetic or neurodivergent, because you are raising the price by buying them and denying access to those who need it.

throw a towel over the mirror. it’s not worth it if it’ll cause you anxiety.

try to limit disordered behaviours like body checking, purging, and weigh ins.

practice good dental hygiene.

put your scale somewhere where you have to actively look for it to weigh yourself.

avoid social media and for your sake don’t go on pro ed tiktok or tumblr or twitter or insta.

get a buddy who also struggles with the same thing if possible to support each other.

get regular medical check ups (if you can afford it)

practice things within your control - makeup, hair, clothing, etc.

push your rules - eat 5 minutes before your time, or 50 calories over your limit.

for people with restrictive disorders (e.g. anorexia):

do weight and resistance training at least twice a week to prevent musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoporosis.

don’t drink on an empty stomach.

try to put gaps between fasting periods.

don’t fast for more than 72 hours.

wear lots of layers to keep warm.

eat an extra 100-200 calories on your period if you menstruate.

have a metabolism day.

take care of your hair.

as horrifying as this is to many people, please go to the hospital if you’re experiencing heart problems or if you’re passing out for more than 30 seconds.

for people with purging disorders (e.g. bulimia):

if you would like to purge, wait 15 minutes first.

after purging: drink lots of water - the emptiness you feel is dehydration. don’t brush your teeth but rinse your mouth out, preferably with an alkaline mouthwash or baking soda mixed into water. do something you want to do, like reading a book or watching a show. don’t smoke. don’t have anything acidic. eat a banana or some chocolate or a rice cake to keep your blood sugar levels in check.

if you vomit blood or your vomit looks like coffee grounds, this is a sign of internal bleeding. you could be drowning in your own blood from a hole in your esophagus, essentially. go to the hospital or call 911/999/the emergency number in your area.

I have been thinking how to explain what i want to explain but time goes, memories fade, and I got the flu, so there is no chance that I will write a good story in a pleasant narrative style in the near future. Just let me leave a few facts and thoughts here.

It was my first DM concert, my first stadium show and it happend to be diametrically opposed to my expectations. First of all, if you stand under the stage it is the same as small club performances for me. I didn't feel the scale of the stadium and that there were about 60-70 000 people around me (The capacity of the stadium is 58 580 seats and together with the field it is 72 900 people. It wasn’t sold out but ~90-95% of seats were taken plus almost the whole field). I didn't feel how big the show was. Just DM, me and some dudes around.

About people around. I understand how difficult and scared for some it can be to stay alone on the show BUT I saw the pain of fans who brought their partners or friends who didn’t care at first, they were annoyed being here for hours (understandable) and the second: fans couldn’t relax with them, couldn’t enjoy the show. Their bodies couldn’t allow their owners to dance, to jump or scream like they are ashamed by their own wishes. I danced alone in that area. People around me supportably smiled, but one guy was almost in tears bc of his partner. He glanced at me from time to time, I waved and sang to him like hey let’s do it together, we all! At least he smiled in the end. My advice to think twice when you do any activities and be honest with yourself, your friends, families and partners. It’s not worthy «to share» your patient with someone who doesn’t care. It can end painfully.

Audience. You can read everywhere it was before, it is now that the Polish audience is one of the best. Well. People were nice around, kind and helpful. That’s not typical, yes. I was surprised by the reaction for some tracks. Like for Stripped I expected at least their souls would go out from their chests or smth 🌚 but no, the audience was quit calm. Meanwhile It’s no good ripped off everyone's pants. In general it looked like people are calm to 2/3 of the set list.

Martin. Today several posts on different platforms popped up that we should appreciate Martin more. One girl even described her feelings similarly to mine after the show. Yes, we should! He is the author, he has a uniq style from writing to dressing, and damn! He sings so emotionally! His voice is alive. It was breathtaking. He really enjoyed the music and gave himself to us, not just worked off the money. I don’t care about his old voice, I don’t care about his low notes which are not his register, it doesn’t matter in his case! If he started a solo project I would visit every show

About the venue. PGE Narodowy is a stadium in Warsaw. It is a famous place for its awful sound. Actually it was good from the field. The same like in Atłas Arena in Łódź. PGE NARODOWY DOESNT HAVE A ROOF. It is the same like in Bucharest. The stadium sold beer straight on the field from the beginning to the end and during the show 🗿 19 zł (€4.26) for 500 ml

I was in a hospital that morning. In a really bad condition driving to the show that evening I thought I was going to get the worst spot with a terrible sound plus rain as the cherry on the top. Instead of this I freely walked around the whole place till DM talking with people sharing some drinks and snacks. I got the best spot I could get in the golden circle under the stage and stars were shining in the sky – no one cloud that night.

We got Strangelove 🤍👠⚫️📢 Frankfurt got Shake the Disease 🦩🕴🏻📹 I’m so happy for us.

I bet Ingo sometimes has some questionable coping mechanisms over in Hisui too. On some days he wakes up and sets the table for two people like it's a habit and if that happens he already knows the day is gonna be hell because he will find himself compelled to do certain things that don't make sense. He holds doors open for people who aren't there, insists on making two cups of tea and all in all his behavior becomes a bit reminiscent of someone being compulsive because he INSISTS he has to do this, he doesn't know why, he has too. It culminates with Akari finding him standing outside his house at night, next to the lantern and just all but staring in the distance. "I can't go to sleep before he comes home." He starts before she can even ask the question. "I always wait until he gets home and leave the light on, he gets worried when he can't see the light from the window, so I always leave it on until he gets home.... I know he's not but-" He stops himself and stays silent until he feels her nudging his shoulder. "... Would it help if I keep watch for a while?" The look on his face tells her that he isn't too keen on the idea, but he nods before heading inside for a night of uneasy rest. Hikari spends about an hour keeping watch , lost in thought, before she finally kills the light when she is sure that Ingo has fallen asleep by now.

Over a hundred years later and a thousand miles away from Hisui , Emmet always keeps the light on before he leaves home.

He's more than once handed something to empty air, letting go without a second thought, only to stare blankly at whatever it was as it drops to the ground. Some of his pokémon have taken to catching the items or picking them up for him, but even then he still has to take a moment to process the dissonance ricocheting through him.

Anytime someone gives him food, he just smiles softly as he splits it in half, explaining that the last time he didn't share, he was given the cold shoulder for hours. Most people assume he's talking about one of his more sensitive pokémon, but he's never seen giving it to any of them.

Him standing outside as he waits for the someone whose identity he doesn't even fully recall is so sad :(( He tried waiting inside, full of nervous energy as time passed and no one came through the door. He couldn't stop bouncing his foot as he waited, waited, waited. It slowly turned into waiting outside for them at night, so as to relieve the worry of this person who floats at the periphery of his memory. If he went to sleep, would they recognize the house as theirs? How would they know he was there, waiting for them? Akari was reliable, though! She would certainly recognize the person he was waiting for, because he had told her of the smile he remembered. If he could trust anyone for the evening shift, it would be her...

One day, each of them think, the light they leave on will be seen.

My #1 post of 2022

I love the headcannon that Ingo has really expressive eyes but a non expressive mouth/face while Emmet has a really expressive face and emotes a lot but his eyes don't really show much or any emotion. So what if something like the pandemic happens and they have to wear masks and people keep confusing them for each other whenever they're not wearing their hats/coats cuz "oh. The one that never smiles is Ingo so obviously the one with the sparkle in their eyes is Emmet" BUT NO! It was Ingo all along! Idk just a random thought I got at work

After a while of wearing the masks, the Twins just forget they have them on. When someone calls Ingo "Emmet," he switches tracks instantly, addressing them the way his younger brother would. He doesn't point out their mistake, even though it just confuses the person even more when later the same day, Emmet is seen wearing a completely different outfit.

Emmet, on the other hand, just tilts his head at the person, with a confused "I am Emmet?" Where Ingo seems to understand the easy mistake -they *are* identical after all- Emmet is surprised every time. To him, it's obvious which one of them is which! His eyes don't light up as wonderfully as Ingo's do when they see something they like. Ingo is so so handsome even with the mask obscuring most of his features.

They get a selection of face masks they wear, which are supposed to be specific to each of them so that people can tell. They each get a bunch of different ones related to their pokémon, one for each with their respective triangles. Ingo gets one with a purrloin mouth on it, because they both think it's cute. Emmet gets one with sharpedo teeth on it for the same reason.

But, sometimes, they'll still grab the wrong mask, and confuse people all over again.

The new Swift laptops’ strong processor and AI-supported capabilities make them more performance-minded, competent, and intuitive for content creation, schooling, productivity, and play.

Vega's fuel-free CubeSats will use wings to keep in formation

Spain's trio of ANSER CubeSats, due to fly on Europe's next Vega launcher, will fly like a flock of birds in orbit—in more ways than one. Keeping in formation by following their leader, the three shoebox-sized satellite will image Iberian waters as if they are a single standard-sized mission. And they will unfurl wing-like flaps to maintain their relative positions, surfing on the scanty airflow at the top of Earth's atmosphere.

ANSER—Advanced Nanosatellite Systems for Earth-observation Research—is a cluster of three CubeSats which will work together in close vicinity as if they are a single satellite. Due to be launched on Europe's next Vega flight, VV23, the ANSER mission is being undertaken by INTA, the Spanish Institute of Aerospace Technology.

Santiago Rodriguez Bustabad, overseeing the mission, explains, "ANSER is also the Latin name for the wild goose, a good example of birds flying in formation, adopting a leader-follower protocol, which is what our mission is emulating."

These three-unit CubeSats will orbit around 500 km altitude, maintaining formation at an optimum 10 km apart from each other. But they do not have any onboard propulsion systems. Instead they control their relative positions by deploying a set of flaps against the trace amounts of air at the top of the atmosphere. These will multiply their wingspan sixfold, allowing them to either drag themselves downward or lift themselves upward and sideways.

He adds, "A specially-developed algorithm will be used to plan these 'Differential Lift and Drag' maneuvers on the ground for telecommand uplink to the satellites. Increasing the drag effect allows the creation of significant relative movements along track, while the more lightweight lift effect can produce small cross-track shifts.

"The precise aerodynamic resistance is highly dependent on the orbital altitude, but on average we would expect to spend no more than 72 hours to produce 10 km of along-track separation. Later in the mission we might attempt autonomous onboard maneuvering as well."

One of the CubeSats serves as a leader, undertaking communications with the ground and connected to the others via inter-satellite links. It will also lead joint observations of ANSER's main target, the quality of inland Iberian lakes and reservoirs, as well as comparable water bodies worldwide.

Santiago continues, "ANSER's hyperspectral imager CINCLUS—named for another bird species—is a fractionated payload distributed across the three CubeSats. The leader satellite has a panchromatic cameras to detect clouds and pre-validate the utility of the hyperspectral images before processing on the ground. The two follower satellites host miniaturized hyperspectral cameras incorporating micro-spectrometers."

These four spectrometers cover the visible to near infrared region, supported by the panchromatic camera, delivering 60 m spatial resolution, offering insight into the suspended contents of water bodies, including its pollution levels or the presence of toxic microorganisms such as harmful phytoplankton blooms.

Santiago notes, "In recent years CubeSats and nanosatellites under 10 kg of mass have transformed from educational tools into highly-valued spacecraft for many commercial and government sectors, favored for their short development times, rapid assimilation of new components and miniaturized sensors, lower costs—including launch costs—and improved functionality.

"But achieving operational performance can still be a challenge for such small satellites because of their limitations in terms of available power, ground coverage and resolution, revisit times and so on. And the use of commercial-off-the-shelf components and non-space-qualified parts adds extra risk.

"So to have a real chance of achieving an operational Earth-observing mission we are leaning into distributed systems in the form of clusters and constellations, together with miniaturization."

Without onboard propulsion, the operational lifespan of an ANSER cluster will be limited to two or three years, depending on their initial altitude. But the fractionated platform approach means this is more of a strength than a weakness because replacement CubeSats can be added to the cluster regularly, offering the chance to perform hardware upgrades in orbit.

Santiago explains, "In time the individual CubeSats would all be deorbited, but replaced in the meantime by more up-to-date versions, so that their overall mission could continue uninterrupted."

ANSER is due to fly on Vega's Small Spacecraft Mission Service, a rideshare service for small satellites, securing its place through the European Commission's In-Orbit Demonstration/In-Orbit Validation program.

Managed on behalf of the Commission by ESA's Small Satellite Platform Unit, this program allows the early orbital testing of new technologies to make Europe's space sector more competitive.

Santiago comments, "ANSER has been developed using INTA's internal funding, but one of the most important strengths supporting our project over the past four years of work has been its selection for flight—after open competition with other European proposals—through the IOD/IOV Program. With this support, ANSER could overcome various difficulties, including financial issues and the impact of the COVID pandemic, without losing sight of its main goal of in-orbit demonstration."

Vega flight VV23 is due for lift-off next week from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana. Along with its main satellite payloads it carries multiple CubeSats including ESA's PRETTY mission investigating reflected satnav for environmental monitoring, the Proba-V Companion CubeSat testing the performance of a previously flown spectral imager aboard a CubeSat and other IOD/IOV CubeSats.

Let’s recap this week’s latest news. Stock futures fell early on Friday following a rally on Wall Street as investors await a key jobs report Friday. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 91 points or 0.29%. S&P 500 futures were down 0.36%, and Nasdaq 100 futures slumped 0.44%. One of Hong Kong’s top financial officials, Ashley Alder, is leaving his role as chief executive of the city’s markets regulator to become chair of the U.K. Financial Conduct Authority. Beijing city toned down a plan to require Covid vaccinations to enter some public venues, and maintained that a negative virus test was sufficient. The report cited a member of the city’s virus prevention and control office, who emphasized current rules — a negative virus test within the last 72 hours.

CVLG(Covenant Logistics Group, Inc.)- Covenant Logistics Group, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, provides transportation and logistics services in the United States. It operates through four segments: Expedited, Dedicated, Managed Freight, and Warehousing. The Expedited segment primarily provides truckload services with high service freight and delivery standards, such as 1,000 miles in 22 hours or 15-minute delivery windows. The Dedicated segment provides customers with committed truckload capacity over contracted periods using equipment either owned or leased by the company.

CNM(Core & Main, Inc.): Core & Main, Inc. distributes water, wastewater, storm drainage, and fire protection products and related services to municipalities, private water companies, and professional contractors in the municipal, non-residential, and residential end markets in the United States.Its products include pipes, valves, hydrants, fittings, and other products and services; storm drainage products, such as corrugated piping systems, retention basins, inline drains, manholes, grates, geosynthetics, and other related products; fire protection products, including fire protection pipes, sprinkler heads and other devices, fire suppression systems, and related accessories, as well as fabrication services; and meter products, such as smart meter products, installation, software, and other services.

It operates through two segments, Insurance and Reinsurance. UFCS(United Fire Group, Inc.): United Fire Group, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, provides property and casualty insurance for individuals and businesses in the United States. The company offers commercial and personal lines of property and casualty insurance; commercial multiple perils and inland marine insurance, as well as assumed reinsurance products. Its commercial policies include fire and allied lines, other liability, automobile, workers' compensation, and fidelity and surety coverage; and personal lines comprise automobile, and fire and allied lines coverage, including homeowners. The company sells its products through a network of independent agencies. United Fire Group, Inc. was founded in 1946 and is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

DCPH(Deciphera Pharmaceuticals, Inc.): Deciphera Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, develops drugs to enhance the lives of cancer patients by addressing key mechanisms of drug resistance that limit the rate and durability of response to existing cancer therapies in the United States and internationally. Its lead drug candidate is QINLOCK used for the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), as well as in the INTRIGUE Phase 3 study to treat second-line GIST. The company is also developing vimseltinib, an orally administered, potent, and highly selective switch-control kinase inhibitor of colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1R) for the treatment of tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT); and DCC-3116 to treat RAS/RAF mutant cancers that is in the preclinical-stage. The company offers mobile satellite TV and communications products; two-way satellite communications systems; onboard TracPhone terminals and hub equipment; data management software; and Iridium OpenPort hardware products and services. It also offers airtime plans that enable customers to obtain Internet and voice services, value-added, and news and radio content services to retail customers.

FCFS(FirstCash Holdings, Inc): FirstCash Holdings, Inc, together with its subsidiaries, operates retail pawn stores in the United States, Mexico, and the Rest of Latin America. Its pawn stores lend money on the collateral of pledged personal property, including jewelry, electronics, tools, appliances, sporting goods, and musical instruments; and retail merchandise acquired through collateral forfeitures on forfeited pawn loans and over-the-counter purchases of merchandise directly from customers. The company is also involved in melting scrap jewelry, as well as selling gold, silver, and diamonds in commodity markets. As of December 31, 2021, it operated 1,081 stores in the United States and the District of Columbia; 1,656 stores in Mexico; 60 stores in Guatemala; 13 stores in El Salvador; and 15 stores in Colombia. The company was incorporated in 1988 and is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas.
