Miraculous Movie Review (Rating: 4/10)
I watched the preview of the Awakening movie yesterday and really want to share my honest review. There’s going to be several things that I’ll criticize. So be warned!
Also: Spoilers!! DON’T read it if you haven’t seen it yet. This is my personal opinion. So please stay excited for it!! 🐞🪄
Tumblr media
First of all, my overall rating for this movie is a 4/10. Just yesterday I was ready to give it a 5/10, but quickly noticed it had much more things that upset me than I initially realized when walking out of the movie.
I know it’s a pretty low rating coming from such a huge fan like myself, but that’s probably the main issue. I’m a big fan of the show, so changes in lore and characterization will be more apparent to me. For better or for worse, in this case, mostly for worse.
On the first glimpse the movie seems like a retelling - a soft reboot, if you will - of show’s origin story. The plot goes much further than that however, as it also provides a conclusion in form of a final battle with Hawkmoth as well as an identity reveal of our two main heroes.
In order to ensure the entire premise fits into a 90 minute movie, a lot of things regarding the shows lore were simplified. I say that as a neutral statement seeing as a simplification can be either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your opinion of the source material.
Personally, it left me rather unsatisfied but I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start with the good things!
One of the things I really enjoyed was the animation! Seeing miraculous with such a high production value certainly felt like a cool summer breeze. While I do prefer the original character models style wise, it was still just nice to see them in this cutesie pretty style! The locals were gagging!
Ladybug and Cat Noir were especially gorgeous!
I also really enjoyed the singing. I watched the German dub and it was very neat!
Tumblr media
Sad to say that was pretty much how long my enjoyment lasted. Everything apart from what I’ve mentioned above was… interestingly handled… to say the least. Let me elaborate.
1. The dialogue was awful!
Tumblr media
Truly not the biggest fan of musicals but I couldn’t wait for them to start singing just in order for them to STOP TALKING 😩!
The dialogue was so awkward and stiff. All of the characters were interacting very weirdly with each other. At times it would sound like several lines of dialogue were cut from the final version, as the characters barely acknowledged each other verbally. They didn’t talk with each other, but past each other.
Moreover, every second phrase was a very cheesy one liner. “Believe in yourself.”, “Listen to your heart.”, “stronger together”. Super overdone.
The movie wanted to be inspirational so bad, it forgot to be genuine.
Tumblr media
Some examples that I recall from memory:
“Mom, I don’t have any friends and I’m scared to go I school.”
“Just believe in yourself, Marinette.”
“Okay, thanks.”
Or.
“Tikki, I’m in love with Adrien.”
“Listen to your heart, Marinette.”
“My heart……Adrien.”
2. How did they manage to make Ladynoir banter … weird and uncomfortable to watch?
Tumblr media
Don’t let these pretty movie shots fool you because Movie!ladynoir spent their time in a constant roasting competition that they were somehow both losing!
Not once did they manage to establish that flirty and charming atmosphere around them. No, they were draaaagging each other through filth. And maybe it could have been somewhat fun, god knows I love couples that can roast each other. If only the dialogue was better and didn’t reek of “we have no idea how young people interact”.
In a desperate attempt to make jokes, they let Chat call LB a sidekick or watermelon in every. single. scene. To say that it got annoying when the jokes didn’t land the first 10 times they were made is an understatement. No Milady, no Bugginette, no little wink or a kiss on the hand. Only watermelon and sidekick. Them talking in weird cut off phrases. With careless whisper playing in the background.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some beautiful moments. But their beauty can only ever do so much when met with weird pacing, dialogue and characterization. I’ll talk about that last part in a minute.
3. Everything was so on-the-nose.
The characters would constantly say how they feel and what they think aloud. Jeremy didn’t trust us with even an ounce of media literacy. Classic case of always telling, never showing. Not to mention the constant inspirational quoting in a desperate attempt to convey some deep message. Is this a movie script or my moms facebook page? I guess we‘ll never know.
4. Characterization: Marinette
Tumblr media
Having Marinette be somewhat scatterbrained but overall still respected by her peers is not inspirational enough! Make her your average teenage outcast and a total loser. Dad, you’re embarrassing me in front of the cool kids!
If you enjoy that kind of characterization that’s okay! Personally, I thought it was very cliche. It just.. didn’t do anything for her as a character. Having her start off at a much „lower” point in life, with almost no support system, only makes her coming of age journey to eventually become a self accepting confident heroine take longer. Seeing as the movie is only 90 minutes, the moment we see her “shine” is when it’s all almost over.
5. Ladybug …?
Tumblr media
Did I mention Ladybug doesn’t use her lucky charm? Not. once. No crazy plans to show that she’s smart and creative. Just a pretty girl swinging around.
6. Adrien
Tumblr media
I have a bit more to criticize about the characterization of Movie!Adrien.
The longer I think about it, the more it becomes apparent that they really didn’t know how to write Adrien. His personality appears inconsistent, almost like they were trying to fit him in too many roles at once. He is either extremely closed off and mysterious (even towards his friends), a comic relief character, bathing in self pity or just outright cocky. Those hoping to see his politeness and selflessness will be disappointed. This character only is ever shown to be self centered. A perfect example is how he *didn’t do anything* to be called worthy of the Black Cat Miraculous. He was just one of the „chosen ones“. When the Adrien from the series sacrificed his own freedom to help Master Fu.
Another example is how this Adrien doesn’t really see anything in Marinette. He called her strange in their first interaction and never really lost a single thought on her throughout the rest of the series. No common praises, no support, just awkwardness and not the wholesome kind. In fact, I would argue Marinette and Adrien aren’t even friends in the movie, the only interaction to suggest otherwise was slammed as a 5 second scene in a 2 minute montage.
Even if you were to suggest their bond was formed off screen. We don’t really see it ever take root. He even turned down her gift and invitation to go to the ball with her. Yes, you guessed correctly. It was because he was busy bathing in self pity over being rejected by Ladybug. Yikes.
To sum it up, this Adrien really doesn’t care about anyone but himself. Ever. They massacred my boy.
7. Chat Noir
Tumblr media
His charming smugness as Chat Noir crossed the fine line that turned to arrogance.
Considering how Adrien was characterized, that comes as no surprise.
As mentioned in my criticism towards the dialogue and the Ladynoir dynamic, this Cat is often seen discrediting LB with unfunny jokes. The moment you see him actually appreciate Ladybug, open up to her and Woo her, it’s all overshadowed by his entitlement to her affection.
Some may argue that we see traces of such attitude in the show as well. However, in a series, Chat Noir has many redeeming qualities as well as time to grow, change and move past these flaws. And boy, move past these flaws he did. In the movie, it’s all you get. Take it or leave it.
In one scene, he even lets her think he was hurt by an Akuma in order to catch her worrying about him. It was just a short scene and most people would look past it, but I think it’s these small details that really show how these movie characters tick in comparison to the series.
8. Akumas/Hawkmoth
Just a small detail that kind of ended up taking away the enjoyment of all action scenes is how the Akumas in the movie do not have a motive. There’s just some random people that you don’t care about before their akumatization and that you won’t care about after.
Hawkmoth doesn’t make a deal with them, ask for ladybug and chat noirs miraculous in exchange for his powers, none of that.
He just makes them evil and they do evil things for shits and giggles. The movies premise doesn’t even suggest he needs the miraculous. He just needs to get close enough to Ladybug and Chat Noir to steal Tikki and Plagg.
9. The Ending
I just wanted to dip into that ending real quick. In the movie, Gabriel is redeemed when he finds out about Chat Noir being Adrien. He apologizes to him and they make up. The scene surely will make people emotional, but from my perspective it was all rather predictable.
Whether or not Gabe was worthy of a redemption in the movie is a topic to discuss on its own. Personally, I was okay with it.
What I found more interesting however was…
10. The reveal
Tumblr media
This is the moment most people have been waiting and yearning for. And I may sound a bit smug when I say that the movie served a good purpose to show us that a fast reveal would have never ever been satisfying!
It was super underwhelming because - of course it was!
Marinette and Adrien barely had a connection! For all we know they could have been total strangers and their reaction to each other’s identity wouldn’t have been any different than what we saw in the movie.
We never saw Marichat or Ladrien interact either. So that certainly lead to a less explored dynamics. Cue unsatisfying reveal.
They really tried to make it this big emotional final moment, but really? We just saw Ladybug and Chat Noir lean in for a kiss without their masks. Like in a new fit. Nothing really groundbreaking came out of it.
Any fake reveal in the show was better than that and I mean it with every fiber of my being.
And don’t even get me started on how Adrien only ever noticed Marinette when she revealed to be Ladybug. It’s just not it.
Final thoughts.
There’s sooo many more things that I could elaborate on but I think for now I’ve said enough to support my rather poor rating of the movie.
In my opinion, the movie relies too much on people enjoying the source material while trying to be its own thing. It risks leaving everyone unsatisfied.
Those who watch the movie as a stand-alone are met with weird dialogue as well as plot, characters and dynamics that aren’t at all fleshed out.
Meanwhile those who watch the movie because they like the show will be inevitably comparing the movie to its far superior source material.

Flirt (Klara Bühl x reader)
Tumblr media
Warnings: angst. also it’s vvvvvvv long.
Description: Klara has the feels for reader but reader is a flirt and there’s lots of miscommunication.
Notes: requested about 3 months ago, like I started this at the start of november. I think I kinda strayed from the original request a little bit… but hopefully the length makes up for that and the time I took to write it :)
“reader joins bayern after the euros and is English and joins bayern from Chelsea and they get close and develop a crush on each other and they ask each other out in the end”
Word Count: 5117
Your move from Chelsea to Bayern Munich was big, one of the biggest signings of the year in fact. It was no Keira Walsh to Barca level move, but the German club had paid a considerable amount of money to buy out the last year of your contract with Chelsea, and the blues had clung onto you right until the last minute. But in the end, they had respected your wishes to move, understanding that it was what was best for you.
Being at Chelsea was great, you had grown up there, having come up through the academy system at the club, but you needed to play somewhere you could guarantee you would get consistent minutes and a frequent starting position, and with the sheer amount of defensive talent, and just talent in general at Chelsea, it was difficult to get the minutes you were looking for.
You’d had an incredible summer with the lionesses, coming in as a one of the ‘super-subs’ at around the 60th minute every game, taking over from Rachel Daly as LB. You had quickly been recognised as one of the best young players at the tournament and had made a bit of a name for yourself, working high up the pitch on the left wing, sending in crosses that had resulted in quite the number of assists to your name. Your pace and endurance also meant that you could cover a lot of ground and sit high up on the wings while still being able to get back down the pitch into a defensive position when needed, which had come in handy in a few games, especially against the likes of Spain and Germany.
You had now been in the Bavarian capital for around 5 months and had settled in well. Having Georgia there with you made everything a lot easier, plus having had a few German lessons from Pernille before leaving London made things much easier too. You definitely wouldn’t claim you were anywhere near being fluent, but she had taught you most of the basics, including several phrases she had insisted you would be likely to hear on the pitch or during training, and your lessons with the teacher provided by the club were going well.
Both you and Georgia had quickly made friends with the a few of the Germans, most specifically Lina Magull, Sydney Lohman and Klara Bühl. The five of you had become known among the squad for being loud and always laughing about something, though if you were to have a say, you’d put most of it on Lina, Syd and Georgia. The three of them together were a bunch idiots, while yourself and Klara enjoyed sitting back and enjoying the free comedy show they put on, occasionally chiming in to fuel the fire when they would briefly die down.
Your relationship with Klara had gradually become less friendly and more flirty as the months had gone by. You generally had quite a flirty personality anyway, and had developed a bit of a reputation. Fans would often post edits of you on twitter flirting with refs and players, both on your own team and others. You were charming, but Klara had seen the edits, and was well aware of your reputation, so no matter how much her heart would flutter every time you sent a flirty remark or wink her way, her head told her you did it with everyone so it didn’t mean anything.
The way you were looking at her now though, almost made her weak at the knees.
The team were stood in the middle of the Allianz doing a pitch inspection, and you had just joined everyone in the centre circle after having done your usual ritual of speaking to the grass and asking it to be nice to you and your teammates for todays game.
You now stood opposite Klara in the circle, you had caught her looking your way and had immediately sent her one of your signature smirks. Going against everything her body was telling her to do, she managed to maintain some eye contact with you, and as a result she saw a seemingly impressed look cross your face before you broke the eye contact at your name being called.
You looked over your shoulder and instantly a bright grin broke out on your face, a grin that made Klara follow your eye line to find the source of your sudden happiness. Her eyes landed on a group of Barcelona players, but as you left the circle of your teammates and made your way towards them, she was surprised to see that it wasn’t either of your England teammates, Keira Walsh or Lucy Bronze, who you leapt into the arms of. Instead it was Mariona Caldentey, a Spanish player.
A frown formed on Klara’s face as she watched you interact with the Spaniard, your usual flirty demeanour evident to her even from this far away. How did you even know any of the Spanish players, she thought to herself.
Right on cue, two more joined the pair of you. It was Patri Guijarro and Claudia Pina. You hugged them both in greeting, but instead of separating from the youngest of the three like you had the others, you stayed with your arms wrapped around the smaller girls shoulders from behind. You pulled her close into your front, kissing her cheek and saying something into her ear that made her giggle. Klara couldn’t bring herself to take hers eyes off of you. Her heart was thundering in her chest, and she was reminded for the umpteenth time that when you flirted with her, it was no different to you than from when you flirted with anyone else.
“How does y/n know the Barca players?”, Klara suddenly found herself asking Syd. Her German teammate only shrugged her shoulders in response.
Klara kept watching you, how you interacted with Mariona and Patri, and especially how you kept Claudia close, the four of you laughing at whatever you were talking about. Her mind reeled with potential reasons as to why or how you might know any of them. She couldn’t come up with one.
In the end, as you separated yourself from the opposition players, placing another kiss to Claudia’s cheek as you did, and everyone started making their way back into the dressing rooms, Klara concluded several things. 1. She was definitely falling for you. Why else would seeing you interact with another girl like that affect her this much? 2. She was too far gone to stop now, and 3. You were clearly in some kind of relationship with the young Barca forward. Which sucked given her other two revelations.
She masterfully avoided you for the majority of warm ups, and sat beside Georgia during half time. You didn’t seem to notice the lack of her presence by your side. Which only caused her heart to shatter further. She may have avoided you but that didn’t mean she didn’t watch.
You had a lot of habits, and doing an obscene amount of stretching during half time was one of them. In the past she had teased you for it, saying you did it on purpose to show off. Now all she could do was watch and hate the fact that she’d seemingly missed her chance with you. Not that she ever really had one anyway. Why would you choose her over the beautifully tanned perfection of an up and coming Spanish superstar?
Soon enough the team was making their way back out onto the pitch and the second half was under way.
The game ended with Bayern winning, and the team celebrated almost like they had just won the whole competition. Barcelona were a tough side, but Bayern had been the better team and the result showed that.
Klara felt a weight jump on her back as she walked around the side of the pitch with everyone. Without needing to look back she knew it was you, the abundance of intricately linked tattoos on your arms was a dead giveaway, and she wouldn’t admit it, but she had practically memorised the feel of your body pressed against her own.
“Wir sind die meister!”, you shouted in her ear, she laughed, the pronunciation was off, but it was close enough, “we should celebrate”, you continued, remaining on her back, your arms, and now legs too, wrapped around her as she carried you, still applauding the fans as she walked.
“Is that not what we’re doing?”, she questioned you, laughing again at your excited demeanour.
“Nein!”, you shout, a bit too loud for how close you were to her ear, “I mean celebrate properly”, you insist, “go out, eat great food, have a few drinks, it’s almost Christmas anyway”.
“We have a game in three days y/n”, Klara points out.
“I didn’t say anything about alcohol”, you defended, “we’ll save that for the end of year party”, you said, and jumped off of her back, but not before planting a kiss on her cheek. Klara felt a warmth instantly start creeping it’s way up her neck, but thankfully you were too distracted to realise.
The two of you continued your lap around the pitch, your arm stayed slung over Klara’s shoulder for as long as possible, only leaving her side a few times to sign shirts or take photos with a few fans. But you came straight back to her side every time.
So much for avoiding you, Klara thought to herself. The bead of hope that had found a home in her heart was growing again, much to her dismay, but maybe you did like her back…
She shook her head, deciding to just be in the moment instead of overthinking every little thing you did. For now at least.
After about half an hour the team gradually started making their way back inside the dressing rooms. You had disappeared inside a little earlier than Klara, so were already finished showering by the time she got in. She had just finished getting out of her match kit and was about to head to the showers when you caught her arm.
“So we’re going for food tonight right?”, you asked her.
“Oh yeah sure, who else is coming”, she asked, assuming there would be a group of you going.
“Just us”, you replied simply. She failed to keep the slight look of shock off her face, but ended up getting it together and sending you a smile.
“Okay, cool”, she said calmly, though on the inside, she was freaking out.
You let go of the light grip you had in her arm and she made her way into the showers, taking a moment once she was out of sight of everyone to let out some of her internal excitement, before getting on with her shower.
About ten minutes later she emerged from the showers to find you were no longer in the dressing room. She didn’t think too much of it, assuming you were probably just with the physio or something.
“Did y/n say how long she’d be?”, she asked a few of the girls who were still sat around getting ready to leave.
Most of the just shrugged in response, but Lea, with a careful look on her face, spoke.
“She didn’t say, but someone knocked on the door asking for her, I think it was one was the Barca players”, she informed Klara.
Klara’s heart dropped at the information, but she reminded herself that you had asked her to go to dinner, so she relaxed slightly. You were probably just catching up with your friends. She must remember to ask you how you know them, she reminds herself.
She leaves the locker room thinking you’d probably just be out in the hallway somewhere chatting. But when she finds you, well, chatting is definitely not what she’d call it.
She rounds a corner in the hallway, and that’s where she finds you, with Claudia pressed between yourself and the wall, your lips locked together.
You pull away at the sound of Klara’s gasp, a sound she had not made voluntarily, and glance over your shoulder towards her.
She turns and runs back towards the dressing room before you get a chance to say anything, but decides against re-entering a room where a bunch of her friends would be sat, knowing they would know something was up straight away. She really didn’t want to talk about it, all she wanted to do, was go home, and soothe her broken heart.
How could she be so stupid, she thought to herself, she could tell there was something going on between you and the Spaniard when she’d seen you interact before the game. Her stupid heart had gone and gotten its hopes up anyway.
“Klara!”, she suddenly hears you call, “Klara wait”, you say as you catch up to her. In her shock she apparently hadn’t made it anywhere near as far as she’d hoped, “please don’t tell anyone”, you beg, she just stares back at you, still shocked and now a little confused, “it’s not serious, we’re just having fun, but I’d prefer it if none of the team knew, you know?”, god you were so fucking oblivious it was infuriating.
“Fick dich”, she shoves you backwards.
“What?”, you asked, now it’s your turn to be confused. She was angry, over what you weren’t sure, but you were certain you were about to find out.
“Fuck you”, she said in English this time, like you hadn’t understood what she’d said the first time. She shoved you again too and you held your hands up, staying far enough from her that she wouldn’t be able to do it again.
“Ich kann nicht glauben dass ich dachte du magst mich”, she said, mostly to herself.
“Klara I can’t understand you”, you pleaded with her.
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about how you’re fucking a Barcelona player”, she spits at you, the venom of her words almost paralysing you.
She goes to move past you, intending to leave, but you grasp her arm, pulling her to a stop.
“Klara, what is going on?”, you beg for her to explain what’s caused her anger to be directed towards you. She doesn’t answer, instead just scoffing and pulling her arm out of your grasp.
“Why are you mad?”, you push, getting annoyed yourself now. She has no right to be mad about this, it wasn’t affecting her, “why are you so pissed about what I do with my sex life? It has nothing to do with you”.
“Well it does now I have to keep your dirty fucking secrets”.
“Is that really what you’re pissed about?”, you exclaim, exasperated, “that I asked you not to tell anyone?”, you’re in shock, “Jesus fucking Christ Klara if I knew it’d be such a problem I wouldn’t have asked, I just thought you’d be a good friend and not go gossiping about my personal life”.
“Fuck you”, she repeats, and it only pisses you off more.
“No, fuck you, if you care so much I’ll just tell everyone myself”, you finish before storming into the locker room where most of the team still sat, “hey guys, Klara seems to think that keeping a secret for a friend is too much of a tough ask for her so I just thought I’d tell you before she does”, you start, gaining the attention of everyone, “I’ve been hooking up with Claudia Pina for while now, it’s nothing serious, but it’s good fun and she’s really fucking good in bed so yeah”, you shrug, turning back to see Klara stood in the doorway behind you, a shocked expression on her face, “happy now?”, you ask sarcastically.
She doesn’t respond, but lets you push past her back into the hallway and god knows where after that.
The whole team stare at her in shock. She feels a lot of things. Embarrassed. Angry. Heartbroken. She wishes the ground would open up and suck her down into it.
She doesn’t see you until you show up to recovery training the next day, barely on time. You look tired, your jaw is set and you don’t make eye contact or speak to anyone while you change, before heading out to the training pitch straight away.
Klara sees a few of her teammates look her way after watching you leave, but she just looks away from them.
Days go by in exactly the same way, you barely talk to anyone, especially not Klara, and you avoid any invitations to hang out in your free time, masterfully really, considering you live in a shared apartment with Georgia.
You play the final league game of the year with a new found fire, and the following two champions league games are the same.
It’s now the day before your flight home to England, and as much as you wanted to, you just couldn’t get out of going to the end of year team party.
You got ready before climbing into the back of a taxi alongside Georgia. She hadn’t asked you about what had happened at the Barca game, as much as she wanted to. But, being your roommate, she was well aware that you had failed to return home that night, and considering what you had revealed before storming out of the locker room, she didn’t need to guess where you were.
Out of the corner of your eye, you could now see her, trying to avoid getting caught looking at you.
“G”, you turn to her, causing her to look away quickly, acting like she hadn’t just been watching you intently, “whatever you want to say, just get on with it, the staring is getting creepy”.
“What happened between you and Klara?”, she blurts out.
You roll your eyes, you supposed you would have to tell someone eventually, you just didn’t think the back of a taxi would be the place.
“She caught me and Claudia, in the hallway”, you started explaining, “I asked her not to tell anyone, I just didn’t want everyone gossiping about it”, you continued, “but she freaked out at me, said some shit in german when I asked her to explain what was going on, which I obviously didn’t understand, and then basically informed me she was a shitty friend and wouldn’t keep a secret for me”, you took a breath in an attempt to get your growing anger back under control, “so I told everyone myself and then went and had some mind blowing sex”.
“Okay”, Georgia trailed off, thinking over what she had just heard, “I can’t see Klara doing something like that”.
“Well it happened so believe it”, you stated bitterly, “I knew I should have just gone to Spain or France instead”, you muttered, mostly to yourself but it was loud enough for Georgia to hear.
“Hey no”, Georgia starts, grabbing your hand, “don’t let this make you think like that, you’re playing well, getting minutes, you just need a break, go home, chill out, forget all this and in January when we go to Mexico everything will be better”.
“You don’t know that”, you say dejectedly, “I though she was my friend, I just don’t understand why she reacted like that, but either way I don’t know how long I can go playing on the same team as her if it’s always going to be like this now”.
“Maybe you should talk to her”, she suggests, “now you’ve had some time to cool off, y/n she watches you like you hung the stars in the sky, I think you should maybe hear what she has to say”.
“If she wants to apologise she can approach me herself”, you say bluntly, getting out of the back of the taxi, as it had arrived at the hotel restaurant the team had hired out for the evening, before Georgia could say anything further.
She sighs to herself as she watches you make you way inside, then thanks the taxi driver before following after you.
Once inside you realise that most of the team is already here, so you make your way to the bar to get a drink. Georgia joins you pretty quickly and you order drinks for the two of you.
You spend a short while mingling with a few of your teammates, you had yet to see Klara and Syd so assumed they had yet to arrive. If you were honest you were quite thankful for this as it meant you could spend some time talking to everyone before you inevitably spent the rest of the evening avoiding standing within a 5 metre radius of Klara.
It was about 20 minutes after you arrived that you heard people greeting both Syd and Klara as they entered. You couldn’t help but glance over towards them and when you did, you were thankful that Klara was too occupied with greetings to look back in your direction.
A wave of sadness passed over you as you looked at her. A sadness for the loss of a friendship you had grown to treasure over the months you had been in the city. And it was a sadness which masked the anger you still felt for what had happened.
Your gaze was pulled away from her by a notification on your phone. It was Claudia. You had told her everything that had gone down with Klara, and she’d been on your side throughout, because aside from being your occasional hookup, she was definitely one of your closest friends above anything else.
You’d met the Spanish players around a year and a half ago, through Erin Cuthbert, one of your best friends from Chelsea. She had dragged you on a trip to Spain during the summer, where you had met her girlfriend Mariona, and subsequently her friends Mapi and Ingrid. You weren’t aware you were being dragged on holiday to be a fifth wheel, so when you had also met up with a few of the other Barcelona players, and Claudia happened to be the only other single person there… it was inevitable really.
Barcelona were also having their end of year party tonight, so Claudia had sent you a picture of herself and Patri, along with a message telling you to have a good night and just ignore Klara. You messaged her back telling her the same thing (minus the ignore Klara part obviously) and said you’d give her a call tomorrow to fill her in on the nights events.
As you put your phone away you look up and immediately find yourself locked into uncomfortable eye contact with Klara. It’s like she knew you were texting Claudia. You looked away and internally rolled your eyes, she had no right to care about who you were or were not texting.
The night went on very much the same, you would occasionally find yourself making eye contact with Klara across the room, but you never found yourself in the same vicinity as her. If you had paid more attention you would have noticed that she was watching you, waiting for the perfect time to catch you.
She had spent the last week or so planning what to say in her apology. She knew it needed to include an explanation, she was just terrified to admit the reason she had reacted the way she did was because she liked you. You evidently didn’t feel the same way, that much was obvious to her, but she knew you deserved the truth, especially if she wanted a chance at rekindling some kind of friendship with you.
She was also scared that if she told you the truth, you may no longer want to be friends with her anyway, that you’d find it too weird. In the end she hadn’t really decided on what she was going to say, hoping that in the moment the right words would come to her. She knew she needed to say something tonight, you were going home tomorrow and she wouldn’t see you until January, and she couldn’t bare to have to spend the holidays with the situation unresolved.
So she had been watching you all night, waiting for the perfect time to catch you, and as you finished a conversation with Maxi and Linda and headed towards the toilets, she took her opportunity to follow.
Some people might say it’s a bit creepy to wait right outside a toilet stall for someone, but she knew she’d need to take you by surprise if she was going to convince you to talk to her.
You stepped out and saw her immediately, she had been waiting leant back against the sinks directly opposite the stalls and stood up straight as you emerged.
Neither of you said anything as you stepped up and washed your hands, but she turned and watched you the entire time, you could feel her gaze piercing the side of your head as she did. You moved to dry your hands, all without saying a word.
It’s like the words were stuck in her throat, she couldn’t get them any further up, which left her staring at you like an idiot. She wanted to smack herself around the face in an attempt to knock herself out of whatever trance she’d fallen into, but she was rooted in place.
You were moving slow, like you were giving her a chance to spit something out, anything, but still she couldn’t think of what to say. Now she really wished she’d rehearse exactly what she wanted to say, because as it turns out, in the moment, she was frozen.
You move towards the door, but before pulling it open you pause, a last chance for Klara to say what she followed you in here to say.
When she doesn’t, you start to pull at the door.
“Wait!”, Klara immediately exclaims, out of instinct more than anything. You stop at her request and turn back to face her, folding your arms over your chest, “I um..”, she trails off, “I’m sorry”.
You don’t reply, she’s going to need to say more than that if she wants to be forgiven.
She breaths out heavily and starts pacing, rubbing her temples. A puzzled frown forms on your face as you watch, you were honestly expecting either more arguing or more pleading, you weren’t sure what to call this.
“Okay”, she starts, “Ich werde es einfach sagen”, she says in German, your frown deepens as you don’t really understand what she’s saying, “I like you”, your eyes widen slightly at what she might be implying, “like really like you, and I thought you liked me too, but obviously you don’t, which is totally fine”, she fills in quickly, “I just, yeah, I thought you did, then I saw you with Pina and I was totally heartbroken and I guess probably jealous and I shouldn’t have reacted that way and I’m really sorry”, she finishes, or so you thought, “and I would really like to still be friends with you but I totally understand if that’s not what you want, if you think it’s too weird or whatever”, she actually finishes this time, now standing awkwardly in front of you, her hand rubbing over the back of her neck as you stare at her.
She couldn’t even start to figure out what the look on your face meant. It was sort of a half frown, half shocked look.
I takes you a second but eventually you speak, “I thought you were straight”, is all you say, your tone as unreadable as your face.
“Oh, um, I mean, I used to have a boyfriend, but I’ve dated girls before…”, she trails off, not feeling the need to explain any further.
“If I’d known”, you say, “sorry I assumed”, you apologise.
“No it’s fine, there was no way you could have known”, she justifies for you.
“No, I shouldn’t have assumed”, you repeated, “if I’d known, god I would have done everything so differently”.
The atmosphere shifts at what you say, and the bead of hope that had always been present within Klara starts to grow once again.
“What would”, she clears her throat, “what would you have done differently?”, she asks you.
“I would have made it all mean something, I would have”, you throw your hands up.
Before you can continue Klara lunges forwards, grasping your face between her hands and planting her lips against yours.
It’s takes a second for you to release what’s happening before you pull her flush against your body by the hips and start kissing her back.
Your lips moves perfectly against each others. Klara’s are soft, but her kiss is hard, fuelled by a desperation you can tell she’s been holding onto for a while.
After a few seconds you pull away, “yeah I probably would have done that a long time ago”, you state, before pulling her back in again.
This time the kiss is softer, sweeter, you both know it won’t be your last.
Klara is the one to pull away this time, “will you go in a date with me?”, she asks, a hopeful tone to her voice.
“Yeah, I would like that”, you reply, and place one last kiss to her lips, “we should go now”.
“Now?”, Klara questions, a little shocked.
“Yeah I mean, I’m going home tomorrow, I don’t want to have to wait until the new year”, you tell her your logic.
“What about”, she pauses, “I mean don’t you need to, you know, probably talk to Pina”.
“I told you it was casual, she’s just a friend”, you insist, she doesn’t believe you, you can tell by the look on her face, “don’t worry about it, she’s got something going on with someone back in Spain anyway, she won’t care, she’s been looking for an excuse to tell me we needed to stop for ages”, you explain, “I’ll call her tomorrow”.
“Okay”, she smiles.
“Okay”, you repeat, and then grasp her hand in yours.
The two of you manage to sneak out of the team party with nobody noticing you.
A little while later Georgia texts you though, asking if you were okay, and if by the off chance you had seen Klara, who had also mysteriously disappeared from the party.
You replied telling her you’d explain on the plane home, but that she didn’t need to worry about you and Klara trying to kill each other anymore.
You didn’t look at her reply, but you would have rolled your eyes at her claim that she was responsible for setting the two of you up.

Season 5 why list basically it's a list of things that makes no sense in this season
Why did gabe and tomoe so despretely wants they children to be together to the point of putting them in a white room and has to fucking up the city
Why did mari/ladybug always monaloging to monarch even thought she could've easily defeat him?
Why did they made kagami a senti-human?
Why did they write adrien out of the finale and made clueless about everything
Why did nathalie coming back from the dead after the wish
Why did they just started to give a crumb of the agreste backstory
Why did everyone remembered gabriel as a good guy
Why did feligami suddenly became a thing
Why did lila has multiple identity like get a life bitch what's your problem
If thomas hates chloe so much why don't he write her out of out the show after s3 and who the fuck approve chloe being a mayor
Why did everyone is paris can't seperete a terrible edit AI to a real people like LB and CN safe your ass so many time but when tomoe made an edit of these 2 kidnap adrigami they just believe it with no question ask
Why did gabriel just now decided to use kwanta nonsense in the finale when he already has the magical charm and cataclysm
I'm sure there's more but now i'm so tired.

The whole system for the Miraculous is wonky as hell and much of the writing feels like they're still on that whole Good/Bad Luck concept from the show's planning stage. LB's power is literally Lucky Charm, and the symbolism of Ladybugs are good luck symbols not creation symbols. Same with the Black Cat symbolism (though the Miraculous borrow from Chinese culture and Black Cats are good luck symbols in China) I'd be more than willing to wager that the Peacock and Butterfly were concepted out before the change and no one went "Hey shouldn't we change the peacock"
Originally there was no Peacock. They were planning to do Bagua instead of Wu Xing. So a couple of miraculous from concepts were able to make it in.
Tumblr media
But yeah, I have a growing list of what I noticed to be concepts that got changed, but weren't fully implemented to match those changes, so it's like they're still working off those old concepts despite the changes and it's not working as well, at least, how they're going about things.
As you mentioned, yeah, there's still the Good-Bad Luck theme going on (which both animals are European exclusive in terms of lucky view, an unlucky animal in Chinese should've been an Owl or Wolf).
Marinette's Luck and Tikki's treatment of her.
Now older concept Marinette was a lot more problematic. She was invasive of Felix's company and would try to force kisses on him. She also used her good luck powers selfishly, which brought bad luck as consequences. So being more pushy with her interest and being more selfish, it warrants Tikki to be criticizing and more questioning of Marinette and her choices.
Marinette now though is very selfless and considerate of others, and hardly ever abuses her power or use it selfishly. Despite the changes to her character, she still suffers a lot of bad luck (much of it played for comedy which sometimes goes too far), and Tikki is very criticizing/nitpicky of Marinette's choices and actions.
2. Chat still pursuing LB despite the clear no
Felix still pursued LB despite the clear no because he was cursed with bad luck. His actions aren't ok, but you get his reasoning on why he still tries.
Adrien though is curse free, still pursues LB despite the clear no and its because he really wants to be with her and is trying to wear her down and is dismissing her answer and feelings. That's not good.
3. Hawk Moth and His Son
Felix actually was not HM's son. Between that and him not having a desire to be a hero, it made sense why Felix wouldn't actively look for HM. He doesn't have that close connection nor did he have that drive.
Adrien is HM's son, and he has that close connection and could get that plot moving. And yet 5 seasons now, Adrien is none the wiser. It's a weird placement where they know he is HM's son, but they're also acting like Chat still isn't his son so has no reason to look into HM and discover things and get this plot moving.
4. The Slow Slow Slow Slow Slow Slow Slow Civilian Side Burn
When it was Felix and Marinette, he couldn't stand her (understandably) so he avoided her while she makes all the effort to try and get closer with him. It's understandable why the civilian side of things would be slow going.
Now, Adrien is friendlier and does like Marinette, and she still makes a lot of effort to confess to him and get closer with him. But it fails or goes nowhere, which just sets up this impression that she is far under his radar. And introducing Kagami didn't help cause you could pass off him being too blind/set on LB, but Kagami shows that he can notice other girls, so Marinette just isn't a romantic option. I do hear they finally reversed the LS in s5 but it feels way too late.
5. Marinette and her Parents
Earliest concept of Marinette actually had her coming home finding her father dead. And I didn't see much else of her having parents or them talked about. And given that Marinette is written to be independent, self-reliant, hardly turns to adults for help and advise, and seems to turn to Tikki as a mentor; to me it seems that Marinette's parents were just never meant to be in the picture or factored in. Mindful, I think Marinette was originally meant to be college age. If she and Chat Noir were always meant to be a romantic pair, well, there is no way this Chat is a young teenager.
Tumblr media
Either way, she now officially has parents, but they are hardly in her life, she never really turns to them for help and advise like a 13 yo should, and she's still incredibly independent. Mostly, she turns to Tikki for help and advise. At It's almost like her parents aren't there.
This way of writing how uninvolved and absent her parents are, it could be a left of to them possibly being dead, or it could be a left over from the earliest thought that Marinette was going to be older and not need them around as much. They made a change, but it's not fully implemented, especially with Marinette confirmed to be 13 at the start of the show. I don't know how much independence 13 yos in France get, but I'd expect they still rely on their parents quite a bit.
So, this is my list of things I noticed that were changed concepts, but they didn't fully change everything to really make it work, and it feels like they're still working off those old concepts despite making changes. Or they're just trying to have their cake and eat it to. They do that a lot.

Honestly, S5 Finale's version of Ladybug/Black Cat Unification isn't even in Top 5 of my "Most OP Unifications" list (especially if we "equalize" things by assuming that other Holder also can use their powers at will and without time limit)
Funfact: In my opinion, most powerful Unification is Rabbit/Rooster (you can do whatever you want and whenever you want)
Other than that: Fox/Bee, Dragon/Bee, Ox/Tiger, Horse/Bee, Ox/Rooster, Peacock/Dragon, Peacock/Fox, Peacock/Turtle, Butterfly/Dragon
So the LB/Cat combo is only 'the most powerful' because of the Wish and Rewriting Reality. If you only consider their main powers being used in combo with one another, then yeah Lucky Charm and Cataclysm aren't necessarily a pair of powers that work in conjunction with one another.
The Rooster/Rabbit combo is overpowered though because they're both individually overpowered and only limited by 'if we do that the plot is over' rules.
Those others are some good combos.

Arideon
My first Fakemon Eeveelution. Since it always bothered me how many of the currend fan made Ground-type Eevees have an Egypt theme, my sister and I desinged this one. Hope you like it.
Species: Shifting Dune Pokémon Type: Ground Height: 0,9m (2'11") Weight: 28kg (61.7 lbs.) Ability: 1. Sand Rush, hidden: Sand Stream
Gender Ratio: 87,5% male, 12,5% female Egg Groups: Field Egg Cycles: 35 (8,739–8,995 steps)
EV yield: 2 Attack Catch Rate: 45 (5.9% with PokéBall, full HP) Base Friendship: 50 Base Exp.: 184 Growth rate: Medium Fast
Body Type: Quadruped Footprint: Pokédex entry: Arideons body has a makeup similar to Sand, it can dissolve into sand and move trough it like water.
Evolves from Eevee by leveling up, with knowing the move Sand-Armor.
Wild Arideon are skilled Ambush Hunters that can wait in the sand for days, though they prefer to live of cacti and Fruits instead of meat. Arideons Body feels like fine soft Sand and is always a bit cool to the touch, so many people described it as very pleasant to cuddle with. Arideon are usually calm and patient beings, which probably has to do with their natural habitat in the desert. Because of that, they tend to get along with almost anyone and make excellent travel companions, but they also tend to be rather superficial and tend to not make deep connections with others. Pretty much the only exception to this are their mates.

✨New item!✨ Fiddlehead of Frondescence Wand, uncommon (requires attunement by a spellcaster)
This wand has 7 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 of its charges and choose an unoccupied space on the ground within 60 feet of you. Roll a d8 and consult the following table to discover what happens. A plant or fungus produced by this wand withers away after 8 hours.
The wand regains 1d6 + 1 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the wand's last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the wand crumbles into dust and is destroyed.
A beautiful flower grows from the ground. The flower has 4 petals. As an action, you can pluck a petal and force a creature within 30 feet of you that you can see to make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, roll a d4. If you roll an even number, the target is charmed by you for 1 minute. While the creature is charmed in this way, it believes itself to be infatuated with you. If you roll an odd number, the target becomes hostile to you for 1 minute. A creature prone to violence might attack you. A creature can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
A bulbous melon, 5 feet in diameter and weighing 100 lb., emerges from the ground. The sweet, juicy flesh of the melon provides no nourishment but contains 10 gallons of fresh water.
A tiny weed springs from the ground. 1d4 + 1 goodberries dangle from its stalk.
A puffball, 3 inches in diameter, sprouts from the ground. You can use an action to throw the puffball up to 60 feet. The puffball explodes on impact and creates a 20-foot-radius cloud of dense black spores. The cloud spreads around corners, and its area is heavily obscured. The cloud lingers in the air for 1 minute, or until a strong wind disperses it.
A cluster of 1d4 + 1 dandelion puffs pop up from the ground. While holding a dandelion puff, you fall at a safe speed, as if under the effect of the feather fall spell. Each puff can slow your fall for 1 minute before dissipating. A strong wind instantly destroys a dandelion puff.
An awakened shrub grows from the ground. It is friendly to you and your companions and it will obey your commands. (There is a 10% chance that a hostile awakened tree will appear instead).
A bioluminescent mushroom emerges from the ground, providing bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet.
A small hole appears in the ground, just wide enough for you to put your hand into. The hole is too dark to see into, and it cannot be illuminated. Reaching into the hole as an action will reveal one of the following things (roll a d8):
The hole closes suddenly, severing your hand. You take 2d10 psychic damage and cannot use that hand for 1 hour, after which you realize it was an illusion. Nobody can convince you otherwise until the illusion passes.
Your hand is stung by an unseen venomous creature, you must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 hour. While poisoned in this way, you cannot regain hit points.
Your hand is submerged into a viscous, numbing goo. You cannot feel that hand for 1 hour and any attack rolls using it have disadvantage.
Your hand is submerged into honey. A creature that licks the honey off of your hand as an action regains all lost hit points. The honey will attract an angry swarm of wasps every minute until it is gone.
You retrieve a Percussive Pinecone.
You retrieve a Scryer Beetle.
You grasp hair and pull. The head of a pleasant, but filthy, man is revealed. He seems to be submerged up to his neck, but unbothered. By talking to him for 1 minute, he remarks upon your plans and grants you an omen, as if you’ve cast the augury spell. Then he is sucked back into the hole and it closes.
You retrieve a leafy satchel filled with various gems worth 1d10 x 10 gp.
The hole closes after you remove your hand. Items retrieved from this hole don’t wither away after 8 hours like the other effects produced by this wand.

Kuro Neko really out here getting unbearably worse and worse each passing day when u keep thinking about other things that happened in the season. Other make up talks they had
The Ladynoir ending is such a respectless toxic garbage fire, I can't believe Marinette got away with pullin all THAT and was rewarded with a perfect therapy cat partner now. Just straight up ignored his existence when he met her up in the end til he took ALL the blame
Tumblr media
SHE ordered him to come back after Cat Walker failed the mission and she missed Chat. Chat quit and she just made him come back by telling CW the old chats to return n when he returns she's unwilling to take an ounce of the blame she had in this. How much can one abuse their guardian status to get away with everything? Chats beside her insulting himself and comparing his valid emotions to a tantrum of a damn BABY and LB is just here like "yes you are awful, everything is your fault and I was inconvenienced by ur selfish hissy fit. I'm the poor victim. But I'm so nice to want you back anyway :))"
Charming gurl, real charming right there...
I wished Adrien never returned in that episode. How little respect can u have for your partner since the beginning u KNOW and admitted you didn't notice how much he's hurtin?
He's forgiving her because he thinks she's treating everyone equally bc he doesn't know about Rena. Marinette is taking full advantage of him not knowing so HE takes the blame and she doesn't have to. Dnt know about u but I concider that nothing but selfish. Nice, thanks Miraculous for showing me how o take advantage of people and get away with it I guess??
And oc Adrien still doesn't know about Ladybug having a 2nd partner behind his back n he stays all alone. Of course not what does that matteeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrr
This episode killed Ladynoir for me The following 3 episodes held the funeral and said goodbye for good. There is "letting your main character fuck up in a season of high stress" and whatever tf these 4 episodes where. From KN onwards Adrien wnnt back into a toxic dynamic under undignified terms and Marinette gets CELEBRATED for it because she's la gardienne and at least stopped yelling so what more is there to be asked for?
Maybe I çan ship them again in season 5. I really liked the LS once. But only if Marinette's finally not made to benefit so grossly from Adrien being abused to 7 hells n back. That's a shitty ass look for the ship while oc he's still left at Gabriels mercy. But good to know Marinettes fine!

176 male riders, 21 riding days, 3 rest days, 2,081 miles (avg 98 miles/day), 157K ft ascent, 80 hours moving time, 26 mph avg speed, $2.7M prize money
I'm guessing that the average age of the Trek group was approximately double the age of the average Tour rider - we were older and slower but went considerably farther.
In anticipation of your questions:
Most memorable part of the trip: The rides in the Western States brought stunning views and memorable climbs/descents. If I had to pick one segment, I would recommend the Columbia River Gorge.
Most difficult part of the trip:
Days of temps in the 90s/100's turned asphalt roads into broilers, cooking us from our cleats to our helmet. Also, cold rain is no fun but we only had a few days of this. I also had a stomach bug that caused me to DNF a day and suffer the next few days as I recovered, but fortunately it was relatively short lived. Due to the DNF I missed 54 miles/4k ft ascent of the trip.
Physical impact:
Yes, I lost weight, but not more than 10 lbs. My body composition changed though; I lost fat and gained muscle. I didn't grow giant quadriceps like a pro rider but my cycling V02 max improved by 15% to 60. I never got sore like I do when I run and my only injuries were saddle sores in weeks 2-3 and a mild case of cycling elbow (i.e. tennis elbow) the last few days of the ride.
Was it easier or more difficult than I expected:
I really had no idea what to expect. I got stronger and faster as the ride progressed and was less sore than I expected. The ride was challenging, but it wasn't torture and I'm proud of averaging 16 mph.
Would I do it again?
No. I wanted to see the country from the saddle of a bike and to physically challenge myself and I've accomplished those goals. As the guides attested at the closing dinner, we had an extraordinary group of riders (kind, fun, thoughtful, strong) and I can't imagine being able to repeat that good fortune. Lastly, 47 days is a long time to be away from Beth, family and friends.
Things I learned riding coast to coast across the northern US:
1. It is ridiculous to think that 21 people in their 50s and 60s (and one in his 70s!) can bike across the country in 46 days. But what if they were provided:
• A training plan 8 months in advance;
• The best road bikes available;
• A GPS attached to their bike with turn-by-turn directions of the carefully planned route;
• White glove service managing all the logistics (luggage, hotels, meals, etc.);
• Refueling stops with water, sugar, salt, and encouragement every 17 miles in addition to a fully catered lunch stop each day;
• The support of 5 of the best guides in the business?
If you do all of that, then a group of ordinary (albeit highly motivated) men and women can do the extraordinary.
2. We live in a truly beautiful country; the Columbia River Gorge and South Dakota badlands were breathtaking, but so too were the simple pastoral beauty of the Midwest and the charming towns and villages of New England.
3. The vastness of US agriculture production is astounding and difficult to comprehend. Given the amount of land devoted to producing corn, the rise of electric vehicles and decline of gasoline/ethanol consumption will be nearly as disruptive to the farming community as it is to petroleum producers.
4. If political signs, flags, and bumper stickers are to be believed, there is a deep and troubling political divide between rural and urban America. This divide is being stoked by selfish interests and must be reconciled.
5. Those thick black rubber bungee cords with metal hooks on the ends that people use to secure things to their car or truck? They don’t work. Beth and I have picked up tens of them in the two miles of I90 that we’ve adopted, and I dodged hundreds of them lying on road shoulders while riding across the country. They should be taken off the market.
6. This trip reminded me of a lesson I first learned when I began Ironman training. The average human body is capable of amazing things, much more than you imagine. I occasionally hear the advice, “Listen to your body.” I think it is important to clarify that advice. Remember that your body evolved to crave an afternoon on the couch with a bag of chips in one hand, a cookie in the other and a milkshake to wash them down. So, when you’re listening to your body, listen carefully. Distinguish between when your body doesn’t want to do something and when your body can’t do something. At mile 14 on day 19, sick with a stomach bug, my body said it couldn’t continue and I listened. On the other mornings when my body said it was tired, I ignored it.
7. Bicycling is much easier on your body than running. Over 47 days of riding I never felt sore (with the temporary exception of my butt); I never needed a massage or used my Theragun. As an older athlete I plan to incorporate biking more regularly into my training regime to give my body more time to recover from the impact of running.
8. It is a privilege to do this ride. It is a privilege to have the good health, time, resources, and support (thanks Beth and all of you) to pursue an odyssey like this for 47 days. It isn’t lost on me that there was no racial diversity on this ride; that’s likely a reflection of the privilege this ride requires and the work we have left to do as a society.
9. When riding a bike a long distance, nothing matters more than the wind. Depending on the wind, a 40-mile ride could either be a thrilling 2-hour sprint or a grinding 3-hour sufferfest and in this respect, this cross-country ride is a metaphor for life.
Riders are quick to complain about a headwind, but very few will acknowledge a strong tailwind; on those days riders are more likely to credit their pace to their fitness and fortitude. This is a natural human tendency, despite the profound and more importantly, invisible influence of the wind. Bikers likewise compare their segment times to the results of other riders on different days despite those comparisons having little meaning without an acknowledgment of the wind (which never happens). Some riders have lighter, faster bikes, but those differences are visible, more easily accounted for and generally have less impact the invisible wind.
Riding against the wind isn’t just a physical challenge, it is mentally and even emotionally draining. I have a power meter in my pedals, and it tells me how much power I am producing. 220 watts with a good tailwind can easily propel me at 20 mph. Conversely, when riding into a headwind those same 220 watts may not get me above 14 mph. Here’s the interesting thing; even though I’m working equally hard in each scenario, pedaling at 220 watts for an hour with a tailwind is easy and fun; I’m going fast and making great progress. By contrast, I can rarely keep up a 220 watt effort for more than 30 minutes when facing a headwind; the slow pace and drone of the wind whistling in my ears are simply too frustrating and discouraging. It’s the same amount of work, but one feels considerably more difficult than the other.
Of course, a headwind isn’t necessarily an inevitable, unavoidable obstacle. A rider may be able to alter his course to one which is protected from the wind but still reaches the same destination. Or a rider could pick an entirely new destination, one which turns the headwind into a tailwind but arrives at a different but equally suitable destination. These options are usually only available to riders who are familiar with the area, riders who have been there before or have seen other riders navigate the optional routes and destinations successfully. Rookie riders are unlikely to deviate their course or destination and will generally attempt to grind it out in the absence of knowledge of the alternatives.
Sometimes a headwind is simply unavoidable, however. On those days, riders can help each other by taking turns pulling at the front, shielding those behind from the wind and giving them a chance to rest and recover. On many occasions during my trip, stronger riders would pull weaker riders for hours to the destination simply because they could and they didn’t need the help of the weaker rider.
At the risk of being preachy here (probably too late) I had the tremendous good fortune to be born with a strong tailwind. I saw other riders (my parents and their friends) reach my intended destination and I followed their course. In addition to a tailwind, I had the benefit of being pulled by older, more experienced riders (work mentors and great bosses like Jack ONeill). And finally, Beth Koetting is a strong and capable teammate who is riding with me and sharing the work.
3,735 miles taught me to be appreciative of a tailwind and acknowledge it’s contribution. More importantly, it’s taught me to recognize when others are struggling with a headwind. Odds are good that these riders would be equally successful with the benefit of a tailwind. I am reminded to help them find a new route or destination, or better yet move to the front and give them a chance to rest and recover.
10. The love and support of family and friends can make even the most challenging journey more enjoyable and for that I thank all of you.
Thanks for following along.

new oc! woo!~ Name: Doting Dahlia Real Name: Sandra Beck Age: 20 Weight: 145 lbs From: California, USA Record: 14-8 (5 KOs) A charming, almost doll like boxer in the Major Circuit. She is the infamous rival of Dollie Darling, being the daughterly figure of Desirae Delight, Dollie and Daria’s manager and cosmetic/makeup artist of the WVBA. Though seemingly naively sweet and kind, she has been shown to be quite temperamental and immature when she doesn’t get her way. Under her mother’s guidance, Daria achieved her life’s goal of becoming famous from a lowly theatre child. From being an aspiring girl with a dream to a radiant star on the big screen, you could say that the fame got to her head. However, you can kind of blame Desirae for being that influence towards her horrid personality and mindset. Desirae is not a nice person. At all. Dahlia very much envies Dollie to the point where she could say she sort of hates her, even though she refers to the other boxer as her “big sis.” Having a desperate need for validation thanks to Desirae’s emotionally tolling expectations of Dollie’s “little sister” to live up to nearly the same fame Dollie has, she will do anything to make a fool of Dollie and anyone else she sees as a threat to her gaining fame. She may act like a child but trust me, she knows how to scheme some horrible things.
