I saw a small clip on YouTube shorts about this short film and I immediately knew I had to check it out. It's just 9 minutes long, 2 protagonists, set in a cafe with beautiful shots of baked items.

I chuckled at the #slay, but the overall decor is cute.
It's a realistic depiction of how one slowly falls in love and whether one has the courage to take that first step.

Honorable mention to this guy's tattoos!

Enjoy this short film. @blmpff Here's my 2 cents on part 1. Head over to @blmpff 's blog and you'll find they've shared about the sequel.
@respectthepetty If you want more baking centred shows, check this out and the sequel. Also, if you don't mind that it is in English.
Happy weekend everyone.

Adorable short film with absolutely zero angst but an exquisite moment of tension, and now I'm craving pastry. Free on Gagaoolala as well as on YouTube.

Episodes 1-250 Mouri Ran's Wardrobe
+ Films 1-5 & OVA1
Thanks for all the support! I wasn't expecting this project to get so popular. For this update I've made things much neater, they're organised by date first shown (hopefully) to see how her wardrobe has changed over time. There's also a key to show if the outfit was from an episode, opening, ending, film, next Conan's hint or OVA! Lemme know if you have any other organisation suggestions for future updates! And as before if you spot any mistakes or any outfits I missed pls let me know!

DUNE:PART TWO ranks #19 by IMDb ranking (which is based on complicated maths) of the Top 250 movies of all time!!! The movie is #16 when the list is sorted by IMDb rating (different math!), and it's #1 by popularity at the moment. Also, since the list is always "live" these rankings are probably going to change. But WOW, what a cool achievement!

netflix's business model is soooo bad. clownishly bad. we'd be here all day if i unpacked all of this, so i'll just focus on one thing for now:
if you look at the box office top 10 at any given time, it's generally dominated by IP films. even the non-IP films, the biggest one this year has been oppenheimer, and that's a christopher nolan movie. a lot of people know what a christopher nolan movie is and want to go see that already. so even something that's not an IP film per se is still partaking in stuff that is known, which makes it functionally very similar.
but the way that you get successful IP is that you market it, and you get people talking about it. netflix doesn't have successful IP because they don't do marketing, and they don't get people talking. and there's sort of a chicken and egg problem here, which is that without the marketing, they're not gonna have the cultural cachet, and without the cultural cachet, they're not going to have IP because their stuff is forgettable.
they also, i think, explicitly design their movies and tv shows to be kind of forgettable. their whole model, if you go back a couple of years, has been "we want to feed every niche". and what that means is that they can't develop a coherent brand identity in the way that hbo or a24 or vertigo comics developed a coherent brand identity. what does a netflix movie or series feel like? you can't describe it. sometimes it's the sandman, or sometimes it's house of cards, sometimes it's some sort of kids show or reality show, sometimes it's is it cake. the only thing that ties those together is that netflix owns all of them. that's it. there's nothing else.
on a broader level, it's feeding its subscribers things that are intentionally disposable and is designed as a commodity, both in the way that they market it and the way that they roll them out so that they have no cultural lift and traction. this creates a problem for stars because the only way you can get paid big money by netflix is if you are already a big brand, which means you need to be already associated with something that's big and marketed and has a cultural footprint before you get to netflix. will smith gets a giant paycheck for bright, adam sandler gets a giant paycheck for doing his movies, but somebody who isn't a household name can't build one on netflix. which is going to create big problems for them when it comes to talent, because they aren't making anything that people will watch 100 times and be talking about 20 years later.
there are some exceptions here, of course. the stranger things kids have managed to build name recognition from being on the show. or the oscar bait stuff that they put out at the end of the year, like roma or marriage story, doesn't feel anywhere near as commodified. but in the grand scheme of how much stuff they produce, cases like those are drops in the bucket.

25 of 250: Favorite Films - Zulu
Not long ago, work colleagues and I got into a discussion about what our favorite films were. Given my categorical nature I could not resist writing down a list and, as a writing challenge, have decided to write 250 word reviews of my favorite 25 films of all-time. Note: these are my favorite films, not what I think are the best films of all time.
Tumblr media
Directed by: Cy Enfield
Written by: John Prebble and Cy Enfield
Starring: Stanley Baker, Michael Caine, Jack Hawkins, James Booth
Year/Country: 1964, United Kingdom
Is the British classic Zulu racist or anti-imperialist? The film has vociferous defenders and critics, each having good ammunition for their arguments. The subject of the film is the Battle of Rorke’s Drift during the Anglo-Zulu War in which 100 British soldiers managed to survive determined attacks by 4,000 Zulu warriors. It still holds the title for the most Victoria Crosses awarded in a single battle.
For those who claim the film is racist, it’s impossible to ignore that the Anglo-Zulu was fought for racist and nakedly imperialist reasons, the battle features African warriors armed with spears against Europeans wielding breech-loading rifles, and the film starts with the exploitive scene of a Zulu wedding ceremony. These are all valid critiques and impossible to ignore. And we shouldn’t. The Anglo-Zulu War led to a century of apartheid in South Africa, just as other colonial adventures did.
However, the arguments claiming the film is anti-imperialist are just as valid. The soldiers are all professionals who view the Zulus as dangerous and worthy opponents; they are unmotivated by patriotism. When one private asks a grizzled veteran “why us?”, the sargeant deadpans “because we’re here, lad.” The nihilism of the troops undercuts any rah-rah moments, resulting in a much more human story than might’ve otherwise been told. At the end of the battle, one officer asks, “So, you’ve fought your first battle. How do you feel?” The answer: “Sick.” Such moments go a long way to minimizing the film’s more troubling attributes.

friends who know film: any advice on double exposing super 8 (if it’s even possible)? according to the interwebs it seems difficult to backwind (seen the rage of about 10 seconds?) but potentially doable
