Pyroraptor olympius
Tumblr media
By Ripley Cook
Etymology: Fire Thief
First Described By: Allain & Taquet, 2000
Classification: Dinosauromorpha, Dinosauriformes, Dracohors, Dinosauria, Saurischia, Eusaurischia, Theropoda, Neotheropoda, Averostra, Tetanurae, Orionides, Avetheropoda, Coelurosauria, Tyrannoraptora, Maniraptoromorpha, Maniraptoriformes, Maniraptora, Pennaraptora, Paraves, Eumaniraptora, Dromaeosauridae
Status: Extinct
Time and Place: Around 72 million years ago, in the Campanian of the Late Cretaceous
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pyroraptor is known from the La Boucharde locality in France, the Vitoria and La Posa Formations in Spain, and potential locations in the UK
Tumblr media
Physical Description: Pyroraptor is a poorly known raptor, based on a few fossil scraps found around the late Cretaceous of Europe. Portions of the foot, arms, and some teeth are known from Pyroraptor, none preserved very well. It had the sickle second toe claw of other raptors, and it seems to have been fairly lightweight and small - probably no longer than 1.4 meters, though that is of course an estimate. Other than that, we know very little about its appearance - we don’t even know if it was a specialized sort of raptor like in the Dromaeosaurine, Microraptorine, or other groups - except for that it would have been very fluffy, with wings on its arms and a tail fan on its tail.

Diet: As a raptor, it is most likely that Pyroraptor fed upon meat, probably small animals such as lizards, mammals, and turtles.
Behavior: Pyroraptor would have been a very active dinosaur, spending most of its time hopping and stalking around the rivers and beaches in its island environment. Like other raptors, it wouldn’t have been a pursuit predator, but rather an ambush one: it would have waited for prey to appear, and then pounced on it, using rapid flaps of its wings to stay balanced on top of the struggling prey. This technique, called raptor prey restraint, is still seen in living raptors today. Pyroraptor would have also been able to run up vertical surfaces, such as trees and cliffs, using flaps of its wings to gain lyft up the surface. Then, it would have been able to catch food on the run! Other than that, Pyroraptor probably wasn’t very social, based on fossil evidence from other raptors - that being said, it would have taken care of its young, and probably stayed in small family groups during this process.

Ecosystem: Pyroraptor lived in the Late Cretaceous of Western Europe, which was a series of islands sitting in a shallow ocean - sort of like the Bahamas today. These ecosystems were easy to travel between, utilizing rafting and other forms of impromptu sea travel, so the animals on them tended to be similar to each other. Pyroraptor itself lived with many turtles, snakes, sharks, and gars; as well as Eusuchians such as Musturzabalsuchus and Acynodon. There was some sort of large Azhdarchid pterosaur, too - currently called Azhdarcho, though that’s a questionable assignment. As for other dinosaurs, there were Abelisaurids there, Titanosaurs like Lirainosaurus, Nodosaurids like Struthiosaurus, the Ornithopod Rhabdodon, and another raptor called Richardoestesia, and the protobird Gargantuavis!

By José Carlos Cortés
Other: Pyroraptor was named as such because it was discovered after the occurence of a forest fire. Since so little is known about this dinosaur, there isn’t much more to be said about its phylogenetics or history of discovery! It is rather famous for having been featured in the 2003 documentary Dinosaur Planet, though given its poorly preserved nature, the wisdom in that choice of star is mildly suspect.

What is with Birds of Prey criticism?
i have seen BOP
and i have read comments and review’s from different people (male and female) and i have decided to throughout my observations into the void.
now personal taste is personal taste and everyone is allowed to like or not like whatever they want.
but i will be looking at this from a ‘structured’ pov so i will be breaking the movie down into what others have got to say about it.
and with that in mind i will be taking things out of context but i will be summarising and linking to the sources when possible.
i will be looking at how people have persevere them (again male and female) and why this might be so (but i will say now that it is only my best guess, and i will try to be as fair as possible)
and i will also add i have only seen the movie once at this point so i may miss some things or misremember others
so from here on out we this will be nothing but
------------------------------------------SPOILERS-----------------------------------------
ok so with that out of the way.
PLOT
the plot is basically
Harley and the joker have broken up (joker, dumped her)
this makes Harley lose her immunity in Gotham as she was protected by the fact she was the jokers girlfriend.
black mask is one of these people and is one of the most powerful in Gotham.
but he needs a diamond (that belongs to Helena) to be the most powerful in the city,
but when Zsasz and Black canary, get it take off them by a street girl (Cass)
Harley says she will get it back to square herself with mask and he will protected her afterwards
(there is also a b plot with Helena going around kill everyone who was involved with the death of her family)
things happen
and they all end up fight Black Mask men in a amusement park
and Harley kills him on a dock.
then they all part ways.
now this is an oversimplification.
but that does allow the movie to explore the characters and their relationship's with the world and the story.
but over all an average plot but no so more them say
-the avengers (2012)
-thor (2011)
-age of ultron (2015)
-spider-man homecoming (2017)
and so on.
Criticisms
this is what one critic had to say about the movie
review from  Mick LaSalle
“but no, even that makes things sound better than they are. There’s no character there at all. There’s a look. There’s an attitude, and there’s an assemblage of mannerisms, but these are all veneers surrounding a vacuum.”
“None of them suggest a personality, beyond some generalized zaniness.”
now i am no expert but is having a look, an attitude and mannerisms all things that make up someone’s personality?
i can see if he was trying to say she has not much to add to the overall story or if it over shadowed everything in the movie, for sake of being “zany”
but it was integrated into the movies narrative as a the main story telling tool,
e.g. Harley’s narration and the cartoons/ animation that came with. those where there to add character to the movie through Harley’s, so basically Harley’s personality is the films personality.
and this is what he had to say about the plot
“If she wanted the Joker back, that would be something. That could be a movie. If she wanted revenge, that would be a weak motive, but it would still be something.”
now this has some interesting connotations,
what he was trying to say with this sentiment is only something i can guess, but i will want to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was asking for a story similar to ‘mad love’  from the s4 of the Batman new adventures.
looking more at the sickness of that relationship (that some people admired and fawned over in suicide squad) so if that is the case then its not a bad thought,
however the way it is phrased makes it sound like more like Harley needs the Joker to be major part of the story for it to be any good.
but Harley has had comic’s for year’s that prove the opposite.
now to compare this what he had to say about the Joker (2019)
“What’s terrifying and brilliant about Phoenix’s Joker is that he seems to be operating from an intricate yet alien form of logic. There is very little common ground between the character and the viewer, no shared understanding of right and wrong, real or unreal. He erupts into laughter without warning — a terrifying, piercing laugh that he can’t control. He sits in the audience at a comedy club, joyously and maniacally laughing at setups, not punch lines.”
now i am not saying Joker is a bad movie, I am just saying that he complained about the lack of story and character in one film and praised it in another.
now i also understand that these films are different, and they have different tones and messages. and ever genre (one is action, the other is drama)
but basically
he is saying Joker’s lack of clear “personality” made the movie good and Harley’s made it bad (again this is apples and oranges, and way to simple)
but the main point is that he has failed to look for WHY Harley is that way, or how that adds to the movie like he did for Joker.
now moving on to
Anthony Lane
“ No one could call Harley Quinn a recluse. She loves to go out, get wasted, meet people, and fight them. In onscreen graphics, she proudly reports what it is about her that vexes her opponents. (“Voted for Bernie.” “Have a vagina.”) Yet Harley is often alone in the frame—marching toward the camera in her T-shirt and shorts, smiling madly through lips of fire-engine red, and peppering us with unceasing chatter, as if words were buckshot. She lives on her own, too, with a stuffed beaver in a tutu and a pet hyena named Bruce. (As with the title, note the surfeit of nuttiness. Rarely have I seen a movie strain so hard to seem out-there.) Our heroine needs some kindred spirits, and quick.”
ok benefit of the doubt this is just a colourful way to describe the movie and Harley’s set up,
however with the next paragraph that follows i don’t think so
“No surprise, then, that Yan’s movie, peopled as it is by women who talk among themselves, with only fitful reference to men, doesn’t so much pass the Bechdel Test as ace it, while also ticking the profanity box, the ear-splitting box, and the bone-snapping box—every box, in fact, except for the tricky one that requires a motion picture to be good”
the strange thing is that he was so close to an epiphany
yes Harley is social but she is lonely that is the point of her being with the BOP, taking in Cassie.
and saying someone who is social is not able to be lonely is the dumbest thing i have ever heard.
and i can name dozens of movies off the top of my head that is a group of guys ‘talking among themselves, with only fitful reference to women’
like
-  the hang over (1,2 and 3)
- die hard
- pulp fiction
- fast and furious (all 9 of them)
- the other guys
- Sherlock (RDJ movies)
- the dark night
- scarface
-  any Adam Sandler movie for the last 20 years
-memento
- rush hour (all 3)
- fight club
like damn dude your getting all bent out of shape for women having the nerve to want to tell story’s about other women.
(and i would also like to point out that very on in the movie was a ‘bad guy’ or did bad things all throughout the film and the men are just what they are up against you know like some kind of antagonist??? fucking wild idea right, and as we all know every female villain in movies are always written with respect and dignity, can you feel my sarcasm)
and this is what this man also said about ‘ford vs ferrari’
“Ford v Ferrari” is directed by James Mangold, and it may be his strongest film.
like dude you are showing your hand here.
but i am not wasting any more time on this dude.
let us move on to the lady’s
MOLLY FREEMAN
“the movie ultimately embodies different kinds of liberation - not only of women breaking free from their abusive boyfriends, psychotic employers and the restrictive boy's club, but also the freedom and power that comes with finding a group where they feel accepted and supported.”\
“Cathy Yan's directing and vision for the film, which is realized in the action, costumes and music. The fighting sequences are absolutely brutal and choreographed in a way to showcase the characters' respective abilities. Harley's gymnast moves make a return, and when she gets her hands on a bat, the Cupid of Crime really lets loose - and it'll leave audiences breathless with exhilaration. Birds of Prey stands out because it's uniquely female, from the characters' fighting styles down to the details of Harley pausing mid-fight to give her friend a hair tie. This further extends to the costumes, designed by Erin Benach (A Star Is Born), which are exquisite and perfectly showcase each character's personality.”
Susana Polo
“Each character’s storyline is given a slightly different genre and tone, as well, one of a number of tactics the production employs to mimic Harley’s manic internal life. Huntress stalks around Birds of Prey like it’s a Kill Bill-esque revenge epic, while Renee Montoya is in a hard-boiled cop flick. The main heroine ensemble actors all breathe a wonderful amount of life into little-known characters overdue for mainstream attention.”
“Winstead delivers a comedic twist on the Huntress’s classic personality that I hope makes its way to comics as soon as possible, and the 13-year-old Basco deserves particular credit for holding her own alongside Robbie in their many scenes together. Robbie’s Harley Quinn is just as scene-stealing as she was in Suicide Squad, appearing to operate on at least 20 percent cartoon logic at all times — a useful skill for an occasionally fourth-wall-breaking narrator. Cartoon-channeling is also a useful skill for the star of a movie with such splendid fight scenes.”
now i am not saying every man hates the movie, and every woman loved it that is insane and dumb.
but what does seem to be a common theme is that positive or negative, men and women are looking at different aspects of the movie
women look at the movie on its own terms and men seem to look by comparing it to other “guy movies”
now this a generalisation but this is a common idea that seems to run through it.
and here is some general thoughts from some people who have made comments, online.
female
“I am sick and tired of being told what movies I need to like as a woman, this is a bad movie. It isn't a zero nor is it a ten and anyone rating it that way isn't being honest either with you or themselves. The storytelling is odd and the flashbacks are weirdly placed to the point where they take you out of the movie. This movie has too much exposition and then not enough which I congrats I guess. I don't think men are rating this film low because they are "man babies" I think they are rating it low because there are far better superhero and anti-hero movies out there to choose from.”
this is based on personal taste and why it didn’t sit right with them (and that’s fine)
male
“A rush movie without any type of storyline and God knows where they are heading with DCEU and it's characters..It's only Harley and Harley who has never been in BOP in comics...Mis usage of characters and movie..Just make a decision where do you wanna go with your movies”
now this interesting, when this people has the same feels as the person above
they don’t look to the movie itself they look to find out evidence to discredit instead of anything in the film itself.
again i am not saying this person is wrong to feel this way i simply think the method of expressing it, is interesting.
(and for the record this is actually an incorrect statement Harley and Poison Ivy have been apart of the team at different points)
Tumblr media
male
“The girls looked terrible like they were going Break-Dancing or something and Harley Quinn was dressed up like a Bird with makeup?? The ending was ridiculously stupid and predictable and the misogynist male pig attitudes towards the females in the film were jaw dropping cringe moments, like who acts like that??”
now this is about appearance, and the male characters, now this is showing that men see a violent, man who literally gets someone to cut a MAN’s face off
and the only thing they focus on is that ‘oh he is mean to women damn SJW’s’
that is the weird’s thing? like you the bad guy is bad to the hero’s? shocking.
now i am not saying that the character is perfect and well crafted like loki or kilmonger but he serviced the purpose he was meant to, he was powerful intimidating and unpredictable.
(and black mask has always been a nut case)
but i also think its interesting that these men who cry about SJW’s and how they mock men (and that does sometimes happen, it would be dumb to say they didn’t)
never seem to mind that that women get called bitch’s and whores in every other movie.or that women are used shallow props to move the movie along.
almost like it is distressing when you see someone you can identify with is treated like the peace of garbage.
female
“The Film was decent enough for a lowkey Friday night out with the girls. Nothing you'd rant & rave about or even remember seeing in a few months but it was entertaining in places. The script felt a little bit underbaked & the story itself felt a bit disjointed. The direction of the film was lacking for me. In a world where Todd Phillips pulled off Joker (2019) this seems like a more rushed project that would've been better at Netflix or even Amazon Prime for release. I think the deserve another crack at this movie & another attempt at something with a bit more substance”
honest to the point and is looking at the movie on its own term's
notice how she does not need to devalue other women to get this across, not the character’s, not the write or director but was looking at it from a personal taste and rewatchablity,
the anger about this movie is so strange
like how many hero movies have been worse then this and was not taking very chance they get to bash the creators and that they should not do their job’s because the movie had women as most of the cast and was mainly about them.
anyway i hand it over to all of you.

Keeping up with my Yankees centric MLB preview, I wanted to continue onward and take a long look at the trade market the Yankees may be waddling into. Over the past two seasons, the Yankees have done most of their damage via trades both as it pertains to shedding unwanted salary, clearing 40 man space (Caleb Smith and Garrett Cooper to Michael King) and making big fish splash trades like Giancarlo Stanton and James Paxton. The Yankees have opted to make deals in large part because it's cheaper but also because they are just flat out good at it. So good in fact that it was reported toward the trade deadline that teams were absolutely going to get Brian Cashman to overpay because they didn't want to be the latest team to give up something for nothing. So if Brian Cashman opts to upgrade through trades, here are some names to keep in mind as we go through the late fall/early winter*
*As an aside, no Syndergaard, no DeGrom, no Bauer, no Kluber and no Lindor. For starters, I just don't see those deals as being remotely possible so I'm not going to waste keystrokes. Beyond that? I mean WE also all know WHY those deals make sense for the Yankees would be a barrel of fun so why waste time? They'd be amazing additions to any team let alone this one.
1. SP Robbie Ray, Arizona Diamondbacks 12-8 4.34 ERA 174 innings pitched 12.13 K/9 4.34 BB/9 98 ERA-
In a very chippy and controversial post season presser, Brian Cashman stated plainly that the people they were aiming at the deadline ultimately didn't get traded. We know for a fact that one of the guys that the Yankees chased up until the deadline was Diamondbacks arm Robbie Ray. According to Jon Heyman and other NY media members, the trade fell short when the Diamondbacks asked for a FOUR player package headlined by Clint Frazier. My guess is that the Yankees and Diamondbacks are going to circle back around to one another and the winter meetings will be ripe with Ray to the Yankees rumors. Robbie Ray is not the answer if you're chasing down a stud ace starter. He's a less talent but still quite good version of James Paxton. Let's discuss the positives; Robbie Ray is a strikeout machine who was somewhat fluked by the juiced ball in 2019. His xFIP is a full point lower than his actual ERA which suggests some flukiness. He was third in the MLB in K's per 9 innings and at 234 strikeouts, would easily give the Yankees a power lefty arm they yearn for. He's under contract until 2021 and is still on the right side of 30 which matters because Severino could be the only starter on the rotation now who is around beyond next year. The downside is that giving up assets for a guy who doesn't solve your desire/hunger for a #1 starter isn't normally wise business. Severino, Tanaka, Paxton and Robbie Ray is a really good top 4 in your rotation but it's not the sort of rotation you can trumpet out vs Houston's or even on the same level as Cleveland's top 3 of Klueber, Corrasco and Bieber. Ray also has crazy walk totals and like most power pitches he tends to give up flyball contact at a relatively spooky rate. Also could dude shave his beard in time before pitchers and catches report? That shit looks like it'll take a while.
2. SP Matt Boyd, Detroit Tigers 9-12 4.56 ERA 185.1 innings pitched 11.56 K/9 2.43 BB/9 98 ERA-
Sticking with the names and faces we know of that didn't get dealt, Matthew Boyd! The Yankees apparently checked in on Boyd a few times and Detroit figured the best way to start negotiations was with Gleyber Torres. Because idiocy exists in Michigan seemingly. To his credit, Boyd decided to "reward" the Tigers down the stretch for their view on him with a 5.55 ERA and a .505 slugging percentage against. With elevated walk rates and elevated contact overall, Boyd was pretty terrible in the 2nd half. The good news is that he throws for power, is under 30, has crazy K rates and is under contract into 2023. He is worth a lot if you buy into the upside but worth a whole lot less if you take in the totality of the circumstances. he was slightly better away from Detroit and the fact that he pitched to softer contact on the road might have some pitching coach figuring it's just a desire to get out of a dead situation. It would also be fair to note that every team trading for a Tigers pitcher is going to remember how they jerked around teams on Michael Fulmer only for him to completely fall apart. Matthew Boyd is the ultimate gamble; ridiculous stuff, amazing K rate, good walk rate and a penchant for loud hits with a terrible second half to send him. My guess is Detroit would probably like to hold onto him until the trade deadline and then reconsider things.
3. RP Ken Giles, Toronto Blue Jays 1.87 ERA 23 saves 53 innings pitched 14 K/9 2.41 BB 41 ERA- 1 flat WHIP
The final name on our Trade Deadline targets from July. Apparently of the three names above, the Yankees were closest on Ken Giles as an added bullpen arm before something in the medicals spooked them. Giles had a great year in Toronto and was a quality-ish arm for Houston before falling off the map and losing his confidence, eventually getting swapped out for maligned Roberto Osuna. If Chapman opts out, it's worth noting that Giles is probably going to do around 8 to 10 mil or so through arbitration which would put him below Britton and Ottavino in  the financial totem pole. The guy who runs Toronto also was in Cleveland when they drafted Clint Frazier so clearly they have a comfort there on their end. Britton can close and Giles can be your 8th inning guy.
4. SS Nick Ahmed, Arizona Diamondbacks .254/.316/.437 19 HR 82 RBI 79 runs scored 93 OPS+ 92 wRC+
The general thought process is that if Didi leaves, the Yankees will just shift Gleyber Torres to shortstop full time, put DJ at 2B and have Gio and Voit round out the infield. In that case they probably will want somebody who can rotate around at a variety of spots in the infield to keep everybody fresh aka the same role they had in mind for DJ LeMehieu when they signed him. If they want a more traditional shortstop and use DJ/Gleyber/Gio as a trio of rotating infielders (or play DJ at 1st) then Nick Ahmed might make a lot of sense as a trade option. Going back to names from the past, the Yankees have inquired on Ahmed in the past; once as a potential 2B (the role went to Neil Walker) and once as a fill in for Didi when he had TJS. Ahmed had his career best year which is still noway near Didi's peak years BUT his glove is world's away better than Didi's peak years so that's the trade off.
5. 1B Daniel Vogelbach, Seattle Mariners .208/.341/.439 30 HR 76 RBI 79 runs scored 112 OPS+ 111 wRC+
The original plan in 2019 was a Greg Bird/Luke Voit platoon gig at 1st and DH. It didn't work out that and to his credit, Voit took the job and ran with it for the first half of the year. In the 2nd half, injuries and a lack of confidence in his ability to read the zone led to Voit being off the playoff roster. He's got all of the tools to be a really good hitting 1st baseman (less about the defense said then the better) but Voit remains a "Yeah but" for the Yankees. He's too good on paper to not make the team but too question marked filled at this point to be a reliable set it and forget it starter at 1st. Daniel Vogelbach falls into a similar boat as Luke Voit; both see a lot of pitches, both hit for power, both are cost controlled and both struggled in the 2nd half down the stretch. Vogelbach isn't great shakes defensively which would give the Yankees a sketchy lefty-righty platoon with bad defense but the pop and the OBP skills are tremendous and well worth considering if Vogelbach is not considered a key part of the Mariners rebuild. The argument could/should be made that the Yankees already have a Daniel Vogelbach in waiting in Mike Ford though.
6. SP Jose Quintana, Cubs 13-9 4.56 ERA 181 innings pitched 8.0 K/9 2.4 BB/9 107 ERA-
Went over this one elsewhere. For a Yankees staff that really could use the innings, Jose Quintana would provide a reliable somewhat affordable (at 11 mil) innings eater with upside. His stuff was basically the same as usual (he K'd a bit less than usual) and figures to have some bounceback ability especially if the balls are untreated this year.
7. DH Kyle Schwarber, Cubs .250/.339/.531 38 HR 92 RBI 82 runs scored 120 OPS+ 120 wRC+
So as previously stated; if Brian Cashman wants you then chances are he'll find a way to go and get you eventually. In 2016, Cashman went toe to toe with the Cubs in an attempt to get Kyle Schwarber for Aroldis Chapman. It didn't work out and apparently they tried again for the stretch run in 2017 as well. When the Yankees lineup was being wiped out with injuries, they went out and got a DH in Edwin Encarnacion with the belief being that they could hit their way by teams with no upgrades to the rotation. It didn't quite work out in the playoffs but Encarnacion was very reliable for the Yankees last year. Could the Yankees jump on a potential Cubs soft rebuild by grabbing Schwarber and using him as an occasional outfielder but mostly full time DH who mashes lefties and provides balance at the top of the line up between the likes of Stanton, Judge and Gleyber? Schwarber is an abysmal defender who mashes and then some but cannot hit lefties for the life of it. The price would probably be high despite his warts because he's still relatively cost effective and lefty power is always in demand.
8. RP Blake Treinen, Oakland Athletics 4.91 ERA 16 saves 58.2 innings pitched 9.1 K/9 5.6 BB/9
If the Yankees have to go and find some additional bullpen arms, they might find a friend out in Oakland. Blake Treinen was superb in 2018 and despite having similar peripherals for most of 2019, the results were way worse. EVEN accounting for regression to the mean, this was a hell of a decline for Treinen who ended the year on IL. At 31 years old and likely at an elevated (by bullpen standards) cost, the Yankees could take a low risk high reward flier on Treinen.

#TBT today to 2017 and this gorgeous customized ‘65 #BuickRiviera. The original Riviera is one of Buick’s most famous cars, but actually didn’t start out as a Buick at all. A sleek, razor-edged shape that could legitimately feel as at home on the Côte d'Azur or Beverly Hills as it did in Detroit, the ‘63 Riviera was a masterpiece - and originally an idea for Cadillac. But Cadillac demurred and it was offered to all four other car divisions before Buick GM Ed Rollert enlisted the help of ad agency @mccann_mw to secure it for Buick - it almost didn’t happen. The story starts in 1959. As soon as the 4-seat Ford Thunderbird hit the market, GM dealers started crying to have one of their own. Early in 1959 new style chief Bill Mitchell assigned special projects man Ned Nickles - recently having finished the Corvair - to design such a car for Cadillac. Nickles’ design intentionally referenced the 1939 LaSalle in the details, but the shape spare, clean, and strikingly modern. Codenamed XP-715, it wore LaSalle badges for Cadillac’s review. Cadillac, selling everything it could build and still feeling raw after the Eldorado Brougham’s poor sales, wasn’t interested. Mitchell then took the design to Chevrolet - where Bunkie Knudsen passed on it too. It was then offered to the B-O-P divisions. Buick wanted it as-is, Olds and Pontiac did not, but the 14th Floor made the divisions compete and give marketing presentations for it. Thanks to McCann’s help, Rollert’s pitch for Buick got the nod. The Riviera was a cut above the T-bird in many ways - and a style standout. Buick, with sales flagging since 1958, needed a hit and got one, sort of. It never sold as well as the T-bird, but generated showroom traffic and attention. For the first 3 seasons, it stayed true to the original design - 1965 was arguably the cleanest of all and closest to the original concept. It revived Nickles’ original hidden headlamp pods, nods to the ‘39 LaSalle grill. It was also the fastest; with the optional GS package packing a Super Wildcat 425 pushing the Riv to 60 mph in 7 seconds - blinding speed for a big car then. The original gave way to a less classic, but better-selling, look in ‘66. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEHyRUClye2/?igshid=a37pdyb3n8g

Building a list of tumblr advertisers (Updated Aug 31 2017)
In light of this boycott that’s being planned for September 1st, I was looking for a list of current advertisers. Unfortunately, google failed me, so I’ve been doing it the long way by checking the ads that are showing up on my dash (Aug 27-31). Here’s what I’ve got so far, if there’s any you’d like to add (heh), reblog with the info and I’ll update this post.
Even if you’re rolling your eyes at the thought of a “tumblr boycott,” if you’re one of the many folks who are worried about @staff‘s lack of response to the many white supremacist blogs on this site, these are some advertisers you can try contacting in order to put some pressure on tumblr to enforce its community guidelines.
Looking to see what was added? Check the notes- I’ve been reblogging this post basically every time I see a new ad because I’m a mobile blogger with a crap memory (sorry followers).

The Care Package
Alright. I’ve been feeling kinda down lately, so that means that it’s time for another original post that literally nobody asked for. Buckle up.
This is simply a series of links to my favorite things - anything I watch, read, or listen to if I’m feeling stressed, angry, or sad. I thought it might help someone else who might be in need of a mental break, or that it would at least help me by putting my favorite things into one place.
WARNING: This list is incredibly thorough and extremely long. A lot of these are weird, and if you view them all, you’ll have a pretty good idea of who I am as a human person.

*Best played on top of this. It helps add to the illusion that you’re really at the Magic Kingdom.
**I’ve refused to watch Jimmy Fallon since he had the golden-haired pumpkin on his show, but this is too good to pass up. Harrison Ford is a shining example of understated comedy. On that note, please watch Morning Glory, dir. Roger Mitchell (2010). Fantastic and underappreciated.
***God bless Tom Hanks.

******This list is too dam long.
N.B. The Piano Guys would have been on this list too, but I haven’t listened to or watched any of their stuff since it was announced they’d be performing at the Dark Lord’s coronation inauguration. Fuck them.
This list will definitely be added to at some point, but I think that’s enough for now. Meantime, PLEASE go ahead and add your own entries!

9 Weird and Wacky Cars From the 2019 Woodward Dream Cruise
Whether it’s an upside-down-and-backwards van (2017) or a wrought-iron wicker Beetle (2018), the annual Woodward Dream Cruise serves as the perfect gallery for displaying the latest masterpieces of America’s most creative automotive artistes. This year, more than a million patrons of the automotive arts were treated to a T-Bucket skull-mobile, a rolling bowling pin, a gigantic shopping cart, and a whole lot more.
BJ’s Wholesale Club Shopping Cart
Late Friday, MotorTrend Detroit Editor Alisa Priddle caught the first glimpse. “I think I saw a giant shopping cart!” she said. It was far on the other side of the boulevard and she was driving, so there was no photographic evidence, but this immediately became our great white whale. Our gotta-have. This year’s equivalent of the upside-down-and-backwards GMC Rally van we sought out in years past.
We set out Saturday morning at 8 a.m. to stalk Woodward in search of our prey. At about 9:30, we had our first sighting. It was northbound, we were southbound, and it took us an excruciating eternity to get through the lights, turn around, and head back north. But about 20 minutes later, we spotted the high-rise hot rod shopping cart, and even lucked out getting stopped alongside it at a light. Built from scratch with a 350 Chevy engine for power, the driver sits up where the kiddoes go in a real cart. The chassis and engine look like textbook T-bucket hot rod fare, with a superstructure of gray steel tubing on top. The motivation behind this masterpiece is promotion of Massachusetts-based BJ’s Wholesale Club (a Sam’s Club/Costco competitor), which is opening two locations in the Detroit metroplex in late 2019. Pretty effective advertising!
Name This Car!
It’s darned infrequently that we senior MotorTrend staffers encounter a car we’ve never seen, so when it happens, we circle the block and pull in to find out more. This one, it turns out, is from Brazil. It uses a rear-mounted Volkswagen engine and VW wheels, and is based on a shortened VW Brasilia chassis. Yes, it’s Brazilian. This 1989 Puma AM4 (signifying it was built after Alfa Metais Veiculos purchased Puma in 1988) is powered by a VW 1600 engine. One of only 43 total AM3 (coupe) and AM4 (roadster) models built, it’s a rare bird. This one has only covered 3,400 miles, and the owner is willing to part with it for $14,000.
The Go Bowling Pin Car
There’s a T-bucket chassis and 400-hp 302-cubic-inch V-8 somewhere deep inside this rolling bowling pin. It was created to build awareness of and enthusiasm for the recreational sport of bowling and was inspired by an original bowling pin car built in the late ’30s on a Ford chassis. If you missed it here, you can catch it at the Toledo Mud Hens game on August 18-19, or on September 18-20 in Richmond, Virginia, at the Professional Women’s Bowling Association championship.
Skele-T-Bucket
Many T-Bucket hot rods look alike. How do you differentiate yours? Build yourself a cockpit that looks like a giant skull and put red lights in the eyes. We drove by later and noted that the owner had installed a skeleton in the driver’s seat. Creativity is king on Woodward!
1958 RanchEdsel
Brand enthusiasts are forever righting their favored brands’ errors of omission by creating variants that look cool but don’t have a sound business case. In this case: an Edsel pickup truck based on the Ford Ranchero. The front-clip sheet metal and trim bolt on pretty easily, as do the taillamps. Then there’s just a bit of patching holes for Ford side trim and sourcing rear side trim from a two-door Edsel Roundup wagon to complete the look. This owner then saw fit to lower the suspension. Pretty cool.
Self-Immolation Truck
This crazy loud hot-rod truck was caught plying the Avenue sans front clip or mufflers, from the sound of it. You can see that the exhausts empty out right at the doors; you can’t see that each one has a couple of spark plugs for operating the uber-important flame-thrower function. The system clearly works, as it has seared the paint off both doors. Also please note that a couple ’59 Cadillacs gave their taillamps for this beast.
Saws, Scythe, and Boar’s Head Truck
We’re not sure what kind of reaping—grim or otherwise—this thing is designed to do, but check out the circular sawblades bolted to the wheel centers, the scythe mounted above the rear window, and the taxidermy boar’s head mounted out back. Other notable touches include the license-plate-clad pickup box and the bushel bags decorating the tailgate and door inner (one for California potatoes, the other for Jamaica Brand cannabis).
Amphicar Ducky
We just had to include this shot of an Amphicar rolling in the Berkley CruiseFest Classic Car Parade (with propellers spinning). Note how the giant rubber duck’s expression suggests he’s dubious as to whether this thing could even keep HIM safe in the water…
C7 Stretch Corvette Limo
We’re not sure how many people can crawl through those back doors and into whatever seating is provided behind those super-dark windows, but it’s a sure bet that once seated they’ll be able to get to their bachelorette party in plenty of time to catch the cop-stripper act. (We’re guessing our Drift This colleagues wish they’d picked THIS as their stretch-limo drift challenge-mobile).

                                                    CITY SCAPE
Above are some pictures of the varying films, music videos, tv programmes and games that have inspired my cityscape.
The previously mentioned films, games, programmes and music videos all include a futuristic ‘cyberpunk’ city skyline of some description. All these futuristic city skylines except ‘Fifth Element’ (1997) incorporate bright lights, tall towers and flashing billboards or other forms of advertisement. All of these examples also include a lot of cloud and fog cover with hazy blue lights protruding through the various buildings. Blues, pinks and purples appear to be the primary colours of these scenes and this will be something I consider when constructing my city.
These cities have all been created either digitally, with miniature models or by digital manipulation of a real city. (sometimes all these elements occur)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Slice of Life, 2017)
In a ‘Slice of Life’ (2017) the city/buildings were constructed in miniature form using junk materials like tubes, wiring and Christmas decorations. Projectors were used to beam advertisements onto their city billboards. The city is introduced by using a fade in pan. This was done to give a sense of realism and movement to the city. The camera is positioned in a low angle shot looking up, this gives height and depth to the city making it look bigger and taller whilst also adding a sense of awe and excitement to the audience. This then cuts to a high angle/ bird eye shot looking down on the city, showing flying cars. Yet again this adds height to the city.
(FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE APPENDIX 1)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to achieve an effective panning shot they used a motion controlled camera rig to synchronise multiple passes of background lighting, billboards and the buildings individual room lights. This allowed them to composite all the clips together and edit the separate clips accordingly to achieve the final result. This was done so that they could control the brightness of separate pieces of the city.
(FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE APPENDIX 1)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to achieve the glowing, hazy fog the city was backlit using led lights whilst smoke was pumped into the shot. Each pass allows for more control over the outcome of the final product.
(FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE APPENDIX 1)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miniature models were also used in the creation of ‘Blade Runner’ (1982) and ‘Attack of the Cyber Octopuses’ (2017). In a ‘Slice of Life’ (2017), ‘Motorsport’ (2018) and ‘Blade Runner’ (1984) the city is revealed by fading in from black.
The way in which the city is revealed is like the audience opening their eyes onto the city for the first time. We as an audience have awoken in this city and this is where the story begins.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the book ‘Digital Domain’ (Piers Bizony, 2001) it describes the process of how a scene from ‘Fifth Element’ (1997) combined composite alpha channels, green screen footage, CGI, 3 colour channels (RGB), miniature models and matte paintings to create a scene where the character Leeloo leaps from a building.
(FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE APPENDIX 4)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For my city I attempted to recreate a miniature model city using random things from around the house. I spray painted them grey like in ‘Attack of the Cyber Octopuses’ (2017) but I didn’t like my final result so I decided the way forward would be to teach myself CGI.
(FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE APPENDIX 3)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(SEE APPENDIX 5 FOR MORE INFORMATION ON HOW I TAUGHT MYSELF BLENDER, MY PROGRESS AND FURTHER INSPIRATIONS)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst constructing my city I was conscious to make the buildings look as tall as possible. I used a slightly low angled shot to give the scene height but also made the buildings in the background taller than those in the foreground to give extra height and depth.
Tumblr media
(*)
Another way in which I made the city look larger was by adding reflections of other buildings at night. This was achieved by using a custom environment texture and setting it as an emission. The image I used was from a family holiday in New York in 2011 (See Below). In order to make the buildings look as though they are lit up I made the buildings metallic. This reflected the environment texture making the buildings appear lit.  I also added billboards onto varying angles and different buildings to the depth of the scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the window scene when Robyn is asleep ‘looking’ out of her window I wanted to make sure I stayed true to the cyberpunk genre and included rain. I placed green paper inside of a large photo-frame and from above I sprayed the glass with a hosepipe. This gave the effect of water running down a window that I could key and replace with my city.

TRIGINTA LOVE I; GENESIS
Tumblr media
You are an 18-year-old. A blogger to be precise. Your life is a mix of both post-high school memories and trying to step into the shoes of tender adulthood. You've attended a few parties here and there; all of which you most probably talked to some pretty bird (And told her you own a blog, of course)
She is mildly interested as you ramble on about the kind of stories you write and what a following you have; and you're saving to buy a domain (You lie; because every shilling you get either ends up in your stomach or as airtime)
"Ah...interesting,"
She says while checking whether her girlfriend has texted her. You try to cover for your utter lack of charm by asking her for a dance (Clearly knowing you have two left feet - but you saunter on nevertheless - no son of Koitalel ever backs off from a woman)
"A dance?"
She asks, with this look on her face that speaks volumes about your scant knowledge of history - or rather, current affairs. It hits you hard that the year is 2017 and not 1978 when you could just talk up a female and ask for a waltz.
Awkward.
"Uhmmm...ah...I mean, don't you want to grab a drink?"
You ask a second time, you are sweating at the armpits and you thank the benevolent gods that you wore a jacket - lest she smells fear.
"Well, I guess I don't mind,"
You realize you have not been breathing for the last what? 50 seconds? And you sigh and inhale before you pass out.
She said yes.
"What's your name again?...ah..don't tell me," She closes her eyes pretending to remember a name you never told her.
You will probably never know whether she ever did remember.
You take two Coke cans, open them and hand her one. (Coke; one because hard liquor has never seen the inside of your stomach; and two, you still live in your mother's place and any of her offspring who as much smells like alcohol is banished to the shed)
You talk with her and you find out that you both share a passionate love for smokie pasua, chapo madondo, nyama choma (Ah...a true Nairobian) and dry jokes - the Trevor Noah kind. You pleasantly resign to the fact that she's not one of these hare-brained Nairobi girls who insist you take them out to Java or Coldstone; when you can barely afford a decent meal of ugali (That's the glitterati type - with an Instagram following as big as her ego and a billion-dollar attitude)
She tells you she lives in Kahawa Sukari and you reply in a surprised voice; that you also live there (Although you have never been anywhere past Nairobi)
Somewhere in between this téte-a-téte, you begin to notice her full lips; the way she arched her eyebrow every time she asked a question; her Tom Ford Fleur de Portofino perfume; her dark, dense, short, kinky hair; the womanly slowness of her gait; her nose ring that caught light everytime she shook her head this way and that way; and maybe, just maybe, the way she ran her hands through her hair whenever you smiled.
She notices your second hand Ralph Lauren shirt from Muthurwa market, your vans for shoes (that you stole from your brother) the way you kept on smoothing that crease on your shirt and blushing like a 10-year old girl.
"Are you shy?" She asks.
"Me?...Uhmm..yes...I mean no," you stutter.
You feel thoroughly embarrassed and exposed as you try to hide your hands in your pockets.
"You're cute."
"You're not so badly off yourself,"
You calmly say, trying hard not to reveal the inner turmoil that is raging inside you. You have never felt like this; not ever since Beatrice-with-the-long-legs left you two years ago.
"Follow me."
And since you have no other choice - you follow her into one of the many rooms in the house.
She sits you on the bed and closes the door behind her. This is the point where all the sex education classes back in school come flooding back. You try to recall what was said about contraceptives and safe days.
"Have you ever done this before?"
"Uhmm..what?" You ask-and your blood pressure rises.
She comes and sits next to you and whispers in your ear. Naturally, something awakens in your pants and there is nothing you can do about it. You don't want her to start thinking that you are one of the easy ones. So you start to think of everything that turns you off (Ashy elbows, city council toilets and saggy tits) but none of this works because her hand is now on your crotch.
Now you try to remember whether you had a Durex tucked in your wallet because you cannot - I repeat - cannot let this chance pass.
It's a rollercoaster ride from here and you earnestly wish you never met her in the first place. She's got you cornered- and when you're most vulnerable.
"What do you want?" you ask.
"To be in Hell with you,"
She says in the midst of her soft moans, digging her nails deeper into your back. Her eyes a different colour altogether. Her back arched. With every move, her patience stretched to the limit. Her eyes shut in bliss. Her moans turned into demands.
You still remember the look on her face, frozen in your memory. Her expression contorted in a confusing mix of pleasure and anger.
All this time your mind was clear. Calm. You felt detached from your body; from what you were doing. It was as if you were watching it from afar.
You hear her let out a lustful gasp - as she breaks into a shattering orgasm. A feeling of pride wells up inside of you - you've been able (quite miraculously, of course) to satisfy a female.
You dress up, kiss her goodbye and leave.
You feel empty. You feel frustrated. You feel unfulfilled. You feel tired, desecrated and filthy. The kind of tiredness that weighs on your spirit and drains you of all emotion.
Her name is Alyssa.
She was using you.
And you loved it.
