When the Kraang first invaded and they were gathering stuff to take before they left, Raph took his sketch book and colored pencils, along with some other necessities.

After Splinter was thought to be either dead or left behind, Raph would try to sketch his face but kept getting it wrong. At first he was furious, and wanted to just rip up every page he tried and failed to capture his father's face, but then he realized he didn't want to lose even a horrible rendition cause at least it was smth.

So instead he just shut the sketchbook, punched it, and then cried beside Leo's bathtub where he'd been sitting. Mikey found him when he didn't come down for dinner, left the plate on the counter, and gave him another hug until Raph was ready to let go.

Raph's drawing hobby is actually the one thing the boys agree not to tease about after Leo explained it was a better way for him to be angry instead of taking it out on them. And it does. Half Raph's sketchbook is scribbles but one time he found a half empty Posca pen and decided to trace the images he found in said scribbles. Now most of them look like a tornado of various things; Screaming people; butterflies; snakes; figures charging in with weapons drawn; etc.

Tmnt 2012 hc:

I think that if the turtles were humanized they would all be black and/or blasian since they’re siblings and would have to have the same genetic tree (in 2012 I’m pretty sure they’re biologically related). However I love idea that they have slight differences between them since they hang out in different areas in nyc (a diverse city with a bunch of different cultures that I think would really interest them).

So anyways I hc that Splinter brought them all up to be bilingual, however Raph and Donnie aren’t as good at Japanese anymore since I think they aren’t as good with languages and they would consume a lot of English content growing up + Leo probably started translating Splinter for them and they kinda stopped needing to use it, so it faded a bit. I think Raph stopped speaking Japanese but can still understand it and could speak it (with some grammar and pronunciation errors) in a pinch. Donnie rarely speaks Japanese but he speaks it from time to time with Splinter, Leo, or Mikey. Leo is probably fluent in Japanese and English and I think her (Leo is transfem in my books) and Mikey can read Japanese while Raph and Donnie can’t. However, I think that Leo code switches and sometimes makes tiny grammar/pronunciation errors, with Mikey being the best at Japanese of all their (Mikey is aroace gender-fluid) siblings.

I don’t think Raph is a big language buff (unlabeled he/him non binary Raph supremacy), so he probably just knows English and Japanese. Meanwhile, I think Donnie knows code languages and probably taught themself (They/them for Donnie, source: me) obscure/dead/constructed languages like Esperanto or Latin. Leo probably can understand/read Spanish to some extent, though she’s barely conversational speaking it. She might also know certain phrases in a bunch of different languages since I hc that she wants to travel. Mikey, in my opinion, will be the best at picking up languages, probably fluent in Latin American Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Cantonese, conversational in Italian and Korean, and has begun to pick up some Haitian Creole (though her pronunciation isn’t good because she probably sounds either very American or has WAY to heavy of an accent). They also codeswitch and mesh together languages pretty often, so his siblings have begun to pick up a bit of their languages, especially Leo (how she learned Latin American Spanish)

I think they speak primarily English among themselves and Japanese/English with Splinter, who is plays a little game with himself when he hears music to guess the language it’s in

2012 Mikey and 2012 Leo have chronic pain. Mikey cause he manages to get injured very often and some decided to be a permanent problem. Leo cause season 2's finale (i think it was s2) where he go a nice fun time being a sentient punching bag.

2018 Mikey has embroidered his compression gloves with smiley faces, flowers, a smol skateboard and a mini pizza slice on each arm respectively.

2012 Leo has a little zipblock bag of painkillers stashed away for on-the-go pain relief for him and his brothers. Raph and Donnie don't have as much pain issues as the others, but that doesn't mean getting beaten up doesn't hurt any less. Raph usually refuses tho cause "Ninjas need high pain tolerance." Which they all agree is true, but there's a line between healthy pain tolerance buildup and walking on a sprained ankle.

All the 2018 boys besides Mikey have fruit snacks on them at all times cause Mikey will sometimes forget that blood sugar is a thing, and he does not have a very stable one.

2012 Leo has tried on a wig before in an impulsive moment of curiosity, and immediately threw it off when he looked in the mirror cause seeing himself with hair freaked him out. He genuinely stood there for a solid second trying to get his heart rate back to normal. No one else is aware of this ever happening.

2012 Raph is the only member of his family that can tolerate drinking coffee. Not even Splinter likes it. When they tried it Raph was the last to get a sip, and asked why everyone was making a big fuss. Now he will purposely drink it when he doesnt want his cup touched cause when they were little Mikey had a habit of stealing sips (mostly cause Raph adds a good bit of honey to his tea). First time Raph swapped his tea for sweetend coffee, he was in the living area, Mikey went into the kitchen, and promptly stumbled out sputtering and trying to rinse out his mouth.

They then got into a fight on how Raph could possibly drink "such awful bean water stuff" while Raph yelled back on how he shouldn't have been drinking it anyway. The day ended with Mikey being grounded for the night and glaring at his red-masked brother whenever he heard him passing by his door.

Thinking about how Leo says he uses his jokes to cope and y’know, thinking harder on it I think it may very well be because of what else uses one-liners and puns and that type of humor.

Specifically, 80’s action movies and campy sci-fi. Even more specifically, the protagonists of these.

So I can imagine why, exactly, Leo leans toward this brand of humor. It’s directly linked to things he loves! But even more than that is why I think it’s used as a coping mechanism.

In these genres, these quips tend to be said by the winner - or, if not a winner, then someone who will stay alive. So there’s a confidence behind them, an assurance, almost, that even if things go wrong, things aren’t ever too serious. There’s no bad endings here! It’s all good fun, even if the stakes seem high.

Leo canonically has been known to steer his brothers away from the more brutal villains and toward more fun, lighthearted activities and not-so-dangerous criminals. So for Leo, these jokes definitely make things less heavy, make the situations they find themselves in less intense.

It’s kinda not just coping, but also can be seen as a form of escapism. A safety blanket. A way for Leo to defuse the tension of knowing just how dangerous their lives are and replace that with a levity which implies that things will be okay.

Unfortunately, levity alone does not alter reality.

Aggression, sensitivity, protectiveness, fussing over their rooms, etc. So you asking Leo to go out on their nightly patrol with them was a "this really isn't a good time" moment for him

• "The Lair is warm and safe, why would you want to come out here, anyways? Leave the fighting to me. That's what I'm here for, that's my job."

• Can be a little bit of an ass about it ngl, because he just wants to know you're home with someone he actually trusts to protect you, their father

• You heard Leo bark your name as you started up the ladder out of the sewers. Blue eyes giving you a suspicious look. You were trying to sneak topside so you'd be out there before he was able to protest. "No, no, go ask Master Splinter to show you some stuff if you want something to do so badly."

• If you DO end up out there with them, he's going to be stressing a little more than usual about the setup because it throws him off having someone he feels he needs to constantly look out for, unlike his brothers who are more or less self-sufficient. • For once, the heightened senses of springtime had Mikey thinking slightly more rationally than usual

• "Babycakes, you sure you want to come? It's ugly out there, smells bad, full of dudes always asking for a beat-down, maybe you should stay." Ruffles your hair for reassurance. "We can play games when I get back!"

• Secretly tries to dissuade you from even wanting to go out with them in the first place with promises of fun back at home

"There's been a three-point-four percent increase in crime rate just around the next four blocks, and that's with us kicking tail every other night. • Donnie gets real irritable in spring and tends to avoid his brothers, argues with Leo about about their rooming situation bc he wants to be alone (except for with you)

• Sets up an entire cozy corner in his lab for you to chill in while he's gone and hopes you'll use it, even though he'd definitely rather be home and not topside at this time

• When you ask him to tag along on their patrol, he starts spouting off all the reasons you shouldn't and ultimately wins that debate

• Compromises by letting you man his tracking/observation station and communicating with them on their missions from the sewers

• He actually loves knowing you're on tap while he's out in the city and he can just radio in whenever he feels like it

• "See, isn't being our control center way better?"

Raphael:

• Raph already has a huge attitude problem, make that tenfold in spring.

• Gets waaaaay too overprotective at times, verges on bothersome levels of spazzing over what you do and where you go

• "You wanna go on patrol? With us? Just, out in New York City? With the Foot? Ahah, ain't happening, y/n. 'You said 'maybe' last time?' Well, I'm sayin' no, this time. You'll be bored?" He shrugs. "Watch TV or something. But you're not comin'."

• If you do somehow manage to go (highly unlikely), he's going to be grumpy and complain the whole time because he's secretly just worried and his hormones are out of whack
