GINGER SNAPS- 2000 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Out by sixteen or dead in the scene, but together forever....
Ginger and Brigitte Fitzgerald are two goth/outcast sisters growing up in Bailey Downs, a suburb of Ontario, Canada. They're both obsessed with death and recreate murder scenes in their spare time. They even make a pact to die together (because they have nothing better to do). On a full moon, Ginger is bitten by the beast of Bailey Downs, a werewolf. They escape when the werewolf is hit by a car driven by Sam, the local drug dealer, but soon Ginger starts transforming into a bloodthirsty lycanthrope. Brigitte teams up with Sam to find a cure for Ginger before its too late....
One of my favourite movies.
Obsessed with Ginger Snaps. Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins are both fantastic. The captivating relationship between them is so genuine and to me they feel like real sisters. The producers searched for six months before finding Isabelle and Perkins, who auditioned and were hired on the same day. It turned out they were born at the same hospital and even went to the same school.
The dialogue between them is dark and hilarious. "Wrists are for girls, im slitting my throat" "i cant have a hairy chest B, thats fucked!" I find Ginger Snaps to be funnier than most comedy movies.
It's a very unique werewolf film. Other than the initial attack and the climax there isnt much actual werewolf on screen, although you see plenty of Ginger as she goes through the transformation process. The werewolf is used as a way of telling a coming of age story about teenage girls growing up.
The ending is heartbreaking and perfect. Really caring about the characters makes everything very tense leading up to one of the saddest endings to a film ive seen.
Love this era of horror movies. Love the music. Love the depth of the story. Love all the characters. Love the scene where Ginger walks down the halls with her new attitude, electric. Love the look on Trina's face when Sam calls Brigitte over to the van. I pretty much love everything about it. I think the werewolf looks great, they did all practical effects instead of CGI.
Mimi Rogers is amazing as the girls mom, Pamela Fitzgerald. The contrast between her and her daughters energy is hilarious first of all. Love the cakes shes always cooking and the way she supports the kids even after she finds out whats going on. Shes absolutely heartwarming and one of my favourite supporting characters in any film.
I also have a soft spot for that poor janitor. R.I.P
Ginger Snaps and An American Werewolf in London are the two best werewolf movies.
Directed by John Fawcett.
