Maybe I’m too cruel, but actions have consequences. There will be a reaction, sometimes fair and just and sometimes not. I don’t see how it’s possible for Akk to go around doing the things he did, some of which could’ve physically injured his classmates and there be no reaction, no consequences. It can just stay a dark secret forever? For sure Akk has been manipulated and he is a high schooler. That doesn’t change the fact that he has to be responsible for his actions, at least partially. So I’m all for trying to soften the blow, I really am, but how can Akk get out of this without suffering any losses as disappointing as they may be for him personally..

As the audience we empathize with Akk a lot especially since a lot of the show has been from his point of view. But don’t the people who’ve been frightened and controlled by the curse and put in physical danger deserve to know the truth? Their suffering and personal loses and disappointments matter too even if they aren’t the protagonist antagonist? lol 👀 we’ve been following. So I don’t think Ayan calling Akk out is just a matter of “doing what’s right” so he can be morally righteous and stand on some holier than thou self satisfying moral high ground in his quest to figure out what happened to his beloved uncle.

Tbh thinking about a student like Akk…. Doing the things he did? Some of which put his fellow students in physical danger? Call me hard hearted but I would absolutely call Akk out on it so I actually have felt that Ayan has given Akk a lot of grace. Especially in the context of investigating what happened to his uncle at that school, I think Ayan has been very broad minded about Akk and the prefects as individual people although he vehemently disagrees with their actions and ideology.

Despite pressuring Akk in ep 7 to confess, Ayan has given him the space and opportunity to choose for himself what to do. Ayan did not threaten Akk with the truth and say “confess or I’ll tell on you.” He told him that it will be worse if someone else finds out and reveals what he has done rather than if Akk owned up to it. Then left it up to Akk to decide. That is not bad advice when the other option is a ticking time bomb for being found out. That is not unfair or cruel to say to Akk given the seriousness of what he’s done. Ayan seriously advising Akk to confess is not just some byproduct of Ayan’s investigation into what happened to his uncle. If it was, I think Ayan could’ve easily made public what he learned to force a bigger investigation and more public scrutiny into what’s going on at the school.

So back to Akk being a high schooler who’s been manipulated… it’s absolutely true. I think the whole prefect system is really insidious… that these adults made a system that has students responsible for policing their classmates. It’s absolutely vile. And Chadok, no matter how right he thinks the rules are, has chosen to enforce them and monitor them in the worst way. By forcing that responsibility unto students. So while I agree that people are often “grey” and not some big bad evil, there are definitely legitimate reasons to call out Chadok. The show focuses a lot on the rules being wrong and unjust, but the system is also wrong and really hurtful to all the students.

One of my biggest pet peeves is adults who do not take responsibility for what they should or try to pawn off that responsibility to children or weaker people. Watching this show as an adult, I think all the teachers are bonkers for allowing this prefect system to exist. Putting the validity of specific rules aside for a second, it’s an adult’s and teacher/administrator’s responsibility to monitor the behavior of children/students. It should not be the responsibility of other teenagers/students. And Chadok and the school need to be called out for that.

the shit people demand of others online is so insane sometimes. like "why do you let xyz people follow you, it's literally so easy to at least go through your followers and block them". like okay dude, maybe it's easy for you because you only have like 2 followers and live online but the rest of us 1) have commitments 2) do not have the energy to use tumblr/twitter/etc for anything other than personal-use 3) some accounts are locked or have no information on them 4) it's really fucking hard to monitor your following once you break a thousand followers or so. trust me 🫡
