You know what? I'm miffed.
When Dr. Adelaide died in the tragically unfilmed cafeteria incident of 1989, we brought her back to life after three days in a saline cryobath and was that a miracle?
Noooooooo!
It was "an abomination of science", "ethically indistinguishable from necromancy", and "a misappropriation of valuable mandrill organs."
But you take that scenario out of the lab and apply it to an entity that is definitionally immortal and now it's a miracle?
"A god fails to die" isn't a miracle, it's a tautology.
Now rabbit monotremes? That's miraculous*

Adelaide. Taken on 1600ASA film as the light
was poor. Whilst it was extremely wet the

do u have a favorite prosenna moment n if so what is it 🎤
this question is so hard but so so good...
i'd say that my favorite HAPPY prosenna moment is either ayrton pulling alain up on the top step of the podium of 1993 adelaide (of what would turn out to be the last GP prost ever drove in and that senna won in) or him saying "hello to my dear friend alain we all miss you very much" while doing some laps around imola in '94
but my favorite insane/rivalry/petty as fuck moment is suzuka 1990. ayrton deciding "fuck it" and driving into alain on purpose because he believed alain had done the same the year prior and in revenge to the unprecedented (and as far as i understand the older regulations quite questionable) decision made by the fia to declassify senna from suzuka '89 is iconic to me. and i admit it: because i'm brazilian i'm super biased in the whole 1989/90 debacle and will always tend to defend ayrton.. he might have been an insane guy but he was my insane guy!

Suzuka in April Feels Wrong
So, this weekend F1 will race at Suzuka. Suzuka is an amazing circuit, the esses at the beginning of the lap, trying to take Degner 1 as fast as possible but knowing the gravel trap is right there at the edge of the circuit, and then hard on the brakes for Degner 2, under the bridge, and up and to the right into the hairpin where Kamui Kobayashi seemed to overtake just about everyone in 2012. Spoon curve, the infamous 130R, and the Casio triangle at the end of the lap, Suzuka really is something special.
The only problem is, Raikkonen's 2005 charge (admittedly I was too young to properly enjoy that but it's literally the back to front challenge meme in real life), Kamui's 2012 podium as a Japanese driver, even Vettel's heartbreaking sparkplug failure in 2017, not to mention the historic Prost and Senna collisions...all of those happened at the end of the season, or close enough to it anyway. This year, Suzuka is in April, the fourth round of the 2024 Formula One season.
Now of course, there's a reason for this - the geography of an increasingly bloated F1 calendar - but first, let's just establish why the Japanese Grand Prix being at the end of the season is so important.
The first Japanese Grand Prix, held in 1976 and 1977, marked the first time a world championship race was held in Asia, and it was the finale too, the place where the championship would be decided. The 1976 race in particular, covered in the excellent 2013 movie Rush, saw Niki Lauda pull into the pits in dangerously wet conditions - this was the same year as his Nürburgring crash - which allowed James Hunt to charge up the field and seal his only world title.
The first Fuji trip would only last two years, but in 1987, F1 would find its home in Suzuka. It was the penultimate race - Adelaide, Australia was now the finale - but nevertheless, Suzuka was still the place where titles were decided. In 1988, Senna came from behind in the wet to beat Prost, in 1989 Prost would close the door on a charging Senna in the Casio triangle on lap 47, taking Prost out. Senna cut the chicane rejoining the track, got disqualified, and handed the title to Prost. In 1990, Prost now in a Ferrari, got a better start than Senna's polesitting McLaren, but Senna's wouldn't give an inch, and they didn't even make it past the first corner this time. Senna would seal the 1990 title. And it continued, Senna over Mansell in 1991, Hill over Villeneuve in 1996, Hakkinen over Schumacher in 1998...it was the track where history was made.
That being said, it's position in the calendar started to change as F1 expanded its Asia-Pacific presence from just Suzuka. From 1987-1995, it was paired with the Australian Grand Prix at Adelaide, in 1999 and 2000, it was paired with Malaysia, and from 2004-2008, it was paired with China. After that, the calendar more or less formed two flyaway blocks, with Australia-Malaysia-China-Bahrain at the beginning of the season, and a Singapore and Suzuka towards the end, paired with an everchanging host of flyaway races that included Abu Dhabi, Brazil, South Korea, and India. In 2009, Suzuka was the third to last race, come 2011, it was fifth to last.
The real blow to Suzuka as an end of season race, however, was the emergence of an American block of races late in the season. It started with Austin in 2012, and by 2015, we had Austin and Mexico back-to-back followed by Brazil, making for three western hemisphere races in a row. Las Vegas in 2023 made a fourth, with Abu Dhabi having long ago bought the season finale slot. All of this means that, in 2023, there were a whole two months of racing after Suzuka.
Thus, figuring that history is dead, F1 has decided to move Suzuka to April, so that, much like 2004-2008, it's back-to-back with the Chinese Grand Prix. Which means F1 will now have Baku and Singapore as a doubleheader in 2024...yeah.
For something meant to cut down on F1's travel related CO2 emissions, they really did just decide to make the entire circus fly over the entirety of the Asian continent in a week. Good job.
What the race does succeed in, however, is reminding us of the last time F1 raced in Japan in April, the 1994 and 1995 Pacific Grand Prix. A rare moment of two races in the same country for F1, when in addition to the end of season trip to Suzuka, there was an early season trip to the T1 Circuit in Okayama. It's a pretty neat track, I've raced it on Ride 4, probably better for bikes than cars though.
So yeah, not much for the environment, but it does remind us of an obscure race nobody has ever heard of, so there is that.

1989 australian grand prix
idk where to start with this one:
the race was just two weeks after ~that~ japanese grand prix where prost and senna had collided, senna had been dsq’d and prost became wdc
so tensions at mclaren were... high
prost was the champion, but mclaren were appealing the result of the japanese grand prix (awkward)
so, if senna won the australian gp, he could still become champion if his dsq from japan was overturned
however on race day the weather conditions in adelaide were atrocious
prost, gerhard berger, n*lson p*quet, thierry boutsen, riccardo patrese and alessandro nannini wanted the race start to be delayed over safety concerns at the heavy rain
senna did not agree and stayed sat in his car on the grid. in the rain.
the race started, senna and prost nearly crashed at the first corner AGAIN and the race was immediately red flagged for several crashes further down the field
there was a lengthy delay where barry sheene (ex motorcycle racer and for some reason f1 presenter for australian tv) ran up and down the pitlane trying to find out what was going on like a proto-ted kravitz
prost refused to restart and pulled into the pits, leaving the way clear for senna to win the race and potentially the championship
when the race started again senna quickly built a massive lead
he then crashed into martin brundle while trying to lap him in the spray and retired. goodbye wdc.
the race was stopped early, after only 70 laps were completed. the podium was boutsen, nannini and patrese (y’know, the guys who wanted the race delayed)
lol

I am like 99.9% my grandma is still alive out in the world somewhere and she's a vampire that was originally born 1865. She will be 158 years old right now. I am being dead ass right now.
So what made me and my family come to this conclusion is because we started tracing our family history. I have lived with my dad's parents since I was 18 after my parents died. My mom's mother died when she was a baby. I started tracing her side first. And I came across some weird consistencies with my grandmother and her mom's line. It got to a point where I thought I was on the wrong track. The ages don't make sense. My family all pitched in to hire a family tree expert. It took them a long time to get back with us and they explained to us that there is some really weird stuff going on with my grandmother. They never seen anything like this before. They actually hired another investigator to help them and they both could not figure this out. Let's start back to one of my great plus grandmothers. Right, let's go to 1865. A woman named Margaret was born. I want you to pay close attention to these dates and
Margaret was married at 15 years old in 1880. She had her first child in 1881. She died at the age of 24 in 1889 from "illness".
Margaret's first daughter, supposedly, was Mariah that magically turned 15 in 1890, even though she born in 1883. Mariah married in 1891 and had her first child in 1892. Mariah died at the age of 24 in 1899 from "illness".
Melinda, the daughter of Mariah, magically turns 15 in 1900. The census completely change just like it did with Mariah. Melinda was married at 18 years old in 1903. She had her first baby a year later. Melinda dies 1909 at the age of 24 from "illness".
Adelaide, the daughter of Melinda, magically turns 15 in 1910 according to the census. Adelaide was married at 16 years old in 1911. Had her first child a year later. And she died at the age of 24 in 1919 from "illness".
Now at this point we start seeing pictures. This Adelaide looks just like the pictures of my grandma in her younger years. All the women I am related to mention below looks identical to these pictures. There's no way it's different people.
Mary, the daughter of Adelaide, magically turns 15 in 1920 according to the census. Mary married at the age of 18 in 1923. She died in 1929 at the age of 24 from "illness."
Catherine, the daughter of Mary, magically turns 15 in 1930 according to the census. Catherine is married at the age of 19 in 1934. She died in 1939 at the age of 24 from "illness".
Elizabeth, the daughter of Catherine, magically turns 15 in 1940 according to the census. Elizabeth is married at the age of 20 in 1945. She dies at the age of 24 in 1949 from "illness."
"Anne", the daughter of Elizabeth and my grandmother, magically turns 15 in 1950 according to the census. Anne is married at the age of 21 in 1956. She died at the age of 24 in 1959 from "illness."
"Victoria", the daughter of Anne and my aunt, my mother's eldest sister, magically turns 15 in 1960 according to the census. Victoria is married at the age of 21 in 1966. She died at the age of 24 in 1969 from "illness".
Evelyn, the daughter of Victoria, magically turns 15 in 1970 according to the census. Evelyn is married at the age of 21 in 1976. She died at the age of 24 in 1979 from "illness."
Rachel, the daughter of Evelyn, magically turns 15 in 1980 according to the census. Rachel is married at the age of 21 in 1986. She died at the age of 24 in 1989 from "illness".
Amy, the daughter of Rachel, magically turns 15 in 1990 according to the census. Rachel is married at the the age of 21 in 1996. She died at the age of 24 in 1999 from "illness."
Riley, the daughter of Amy, magically turns 15 in 2000 according to the census. Riley is married at the age of 21 in 2006. She died at the age of 24 in 2009 from "illness."
Isabella, the daughter of Riley, magically turns 15 in 2010 according to the census. Isabella is married at the age of 21 in 2016. She died at the age of 24 in 2019 from "illness."
Now her - supposed - daughter would be 18 right now. These family tree experts told me there has to be 3 generations of people changing their names every 10 years, but looks at the pictures.... It doesn't make sense. They look like the same fucking person in different decades. The same beauty marks and hair color. EVERYTHING.
And the other weird part. You only get the obituary. THERE IS NO ACTUAL DEATH CERTIFICATE AND PLACE OF BURIAL FOR THESE PEOPLE INCLUDING MY GRANDMA.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?
I am honestly wanting to get in contact with this new possible identity person to see if they are willing to have a family reunion with me. I have to talk to this person because this is too weird.

Hogwarts Legacy Characters as Taylor Swift Albums
This hit me while I was in the shower and really isn't too thought out, but I needed to get it out of my brain
Leander: Debut
Gives off country fan vibes and would say he misses when Taylor was a country artist
Would actually only know the singles
Garreth: Fearless
The idea of him doing iconic hair flips
He would scream the lyrics down the hallways when he sees fellow Swifties
Poppy: Speak Now
There's something soft and romantic in a youthful way that gives off Hufflepuff energy
The storybook concept feels very Poppy
Natty: Red
The album was very mature compared to Taylor's other albums at the time (Red was robbed of aoty)
The amount of emotions is very prominent in Red and Natty
Adelaide: 1989
This one just feels right
Sebastian: Reputation
Dark and Romantic
Snake imagery like Slytherin
"Nobody's heard from me for months" the same way Sebastian doesn't interact with MC after the storyline is finished
Anne: Lover
Bold and Romantic
A near antithesis to Rep, but both having romantic themes feels fitting for the Twins™
Ominis: Folklore
Once again, this one just feels right
Put it in his headphones and he's crying the whole time
Finds a way to relate all the songs to his life like a true delusional Swiftie
Imelda: Evermore
A fan of self torture in the saddest way
Listens to the album in it's entirety while flying courses and working on techniques
Lucan: Midnights
Would sing Karma while dueling in crossed wands
Just really likes the vibe of the midnights era

❀ *◦ sen mitsuji. genderfluid. he/she/they. demiromantic homosexual. ⇝ hey, isn’t that takaharu mochizuki? i think that the thirty-four-year-old from adelaide, south australia, works as dj at the boom boom room, music producer & engineer, and model; but outside of that people describe them as perpetual busyness to prevent the chance of an emotion occurring; a pristine but empty-feeling mansion with too many rooms; perfectly pouty lips pulling up in a smirk over a private joke; and a robin's egg blue drum kit with every possible bell and whistle on the market. i hear they are moody & distant, but they are also known to be cerebral & generous. consider giving them a visit at their home in winterwood estates and get to know why they’re called the ice queen.

even the silverest of spoons being in your mouth when you're born doesn't shield you from the unhappiness of life, but it does slap a bandage over a festering wound so you can ignore it a while longer. kenta mochizuki, a dermatologist originally from japan. beth mcnulty, general legal counsel for one of the biggest energy companies in all of australia. married a little later than either of their families would have liked, but in their defense, they were both busy being successful. and they barely slowed down long enough to have their only child, takaharu.
though of an ornery countenance since birth, taka was always still popular and favored because he was pretty and rich. clarinet lessons, piano lessons, drum lessons, surfing lessons, she was set up for success from the very beginning. her childhood memories are mostly accompanied by nannies and tutors, though her father, an earnest and excitable man, always made an effort to be present in his child's life, eager to see her succeed.
there was always a distance between taka and their mother, though; taka knows now that beth never wanted to be a parent. this attitude became clearly evident when she didn't show up to taka's tenth birthday dinner. it was soon revealed that she'd forgotten, and more of the truth came tumbling out: she shirked her parental duties for an affair. and this apparently had been going on for quite some time, seeing other men that weren't her heartbreakingly devoted husband.
a divorce ensued, and taka sided with his kind, loving father, who had also always made an effort to keep japanese culture alive in the home. when taka was barely into her teens, her father sat her down to tell her about a woman he'd met online, one he'd fallen in love with. the catch was that she lived in malibu. taka was given the choice to live with her mother or move to the united states with her father. she easily chose the latter.
lashonda rhimes, successful anesthesiologist to the stars, and kenta's second wife. she was a few years younger, though not egregiously so, but still childless. and she treated taka like her own child, which might have been externally brushed off by the surly teenager, but taka came to appreciate it. he was popular in his new home, with his accent and his money and his looks. being so intelligent, the transition to a new continent wasn't difficult at all, and he finished high school near the top of his class.
he didn't really have a plan for his life, and all his parents really wanted out of him was just for him to go to college. an acceptance to duke university was sweetened by some scholarships, and whatever those didn't cover was easily made up for by the wads of cash his family had. taka had started smoking weed not long after landing in the US, but she branched out into new drugs while in durham, north carolina, for college.
acid trips were unpleasant every time she tried dropping; and she didn't like injecting anything to leave marks behind on her pretty body. but she soon found a bad habit in cocaine. she would sniff a few lines, party for several hours, go home and do homework, go to class, and go to modeling shoots, and do it all over again. somehow, using sheer ambition probably, she finished college within 4 years, even with a double major and a couple semesters spent studying abroad.
bouncing around the US for a year or so; living with his aunt in japan for a couple years; and then landing in anchorage for the next adventure around 2016
these days, taka keep busy in any way she knows how: too long with her own thoughts can be dangerous and make her itch to return to her cocaine habit. but they've done a good job of staying clean. taka doesn't need to work for money—his mother sends him gobs of money to curry his favor, and his father and stepmother have nobody else to spoil—but he does work to stay busy, spinning tunes at the boom boom room; modeling for small indie publications and brands; and gaining some traction as a music producer.
with more money than one person should ever need, taka gives a lot of it away. there are a few charities she routinely makes generous donations to; but she also likes to take care of her friends. she'll buy her closest friends whatever they want, buy their groceries, offer to pay rent or even let them stay in her house, offer to pay their medical bills... seriously, what is one lonely person gonna do with all those digits in their bank account? besides, spending money is the only way she knows how to show love.

I was lucky enough to see Halley's Comet in 1986 by naked eye, would you believe looking through a toilet roll which blocked out street lights and moon in the small rural town of Robertstown in South Australia's north east pastoral district and it was a great sight. I have also been lucky enough to see during the day (getting close to dusk I believe) a shuttle's illuminated flight path travelling from south to north and I was looking to west of Adelaide and not sure what year that was. It could have been first shuttle flight back after Challenger but I can't remember what year. Anyway I would be able to work out which shuttle I saw just by the tracking information or is that a bit hard to be specific?
That's really cool! I was just a baby when the comet came by. I hope to live long enough to see it return.
But to answer your question, there wasn't a shuttle flying at the time. There was one planned (STS-61-E) but due to the Challenger Disaster, the shuttles was grounded.

Front row: Richard N. Richards, Jon A. McBride, David C. Leestma"
"Columbia was to carry the ASTRO-1 observatory, which would be used to make astronomical observations including observations of Halley's Comet. ASTRO-1 consisted of three ultraviolet telescopes mounted on two Spacelab pallets, controlled by the Instrument Pointing System (IPS) which was first tested on STS-51-F.
After the Challenger disaster, the flight was remanifested as STS-35 and several crew members were replaced. Both Richards and Leestma were reassigned to STS-28 while McBride left NASA in 1989. Vance D. Brand replaced McBride as the commander while Guy S. Gardner and John M. Lounge replaced Richards and Leestma, respectively."
It was planned to launch on March 6, 1986.
