I’ve mentioned this elsewhere but it feels relevant again in light of the most recent episode. Something that’s really fascinating to me about Orym’s grief in comparison to the rest of the hells’ grief is that his is the youngest/most fresh and because of that tends to be the most volatile when it is triggered (aside from FCG, who was two and obviously The Most volatile when triggered.)
As in: prior to the attack on Zephrah, Orym was leading a normal, happy, casual life! with family who loved him and still do! Grief was something that was inflicted upon him via Ludinus’ machinations, whereas with characters like Imogen or Ashton, grief has been the background tapestry of their entire lives. And I think that shows in how the rest of them are largely able to, if not see past completely (Imogen/Laudna/Chetney) then at least temper/direct their vitriol or grief (Ashton/Fearne/Chetney again) to where it is most effective. (There is a glaring reason, for example, that Imogen scolded Orym for the way he reacted to Liliana and not Ashton. Because Ashton’s anger was directed in a way that was ultimately protective of Imogen—most effective—and Orym’s was founded solely in his personal grief.)
He wants Imogen to have her mom and he wants Lilliana to be salvageable for Imogen because he loves Imogen. But his love for the people in his present actively and consistently tend to conflict with the love he has for the people in his past. They are in a constant battle and Orym—he cannot fathom losing either of them.
(Or, to that point, recognize that allowing empathy to take root in him for the enemy isn't losing one of them.)
It is deeply poignant, then, that Orym’s grief is symbolized by both a sword and shield. It is something he wields as a blade when he feels his philosophy being threatened by certain conversational threads (as he believes it is one of the only things he has left of Will and Derrig, and is therefore desperately clinging onto with both bloody hands even if it makes him, occasionally, a hypocrite), but also something he can use in defense of the people he presently loves—if that provocative, blade-grief side of him does not push them—or himself—away first.
(it won’t—he is as loved by the hells as he loves them. he just needs to—as laudna so beautifully said—say and hear it more often.)
It's always "Shou and Ritsu need to blow stuff up with their minds for mental health reasons" or Ritsu and Teru or even Shou and Teru!
But what about Mob? When does he get to blow stuff up with his mind for funsies? For shits and giggles? He didn't go through all of those meltdowns and character development for nothing, let him go ham on a junkyard car or something smh
I believe in Mob's narrative given right to fuck shit up sometimes
"I think [Roman's relationship with his siblings at the start of the season] is actually something close to healthy for once, y'know? I think we've been sort of competing with each other and just been sort of under Dad's, y'know, spell a bit -- we love each other but have no means to sort of express that or show that with each other. We're not gonna, like, get together and hang out. Like, we always needed the business to hang out with each other. I think Roman doesn't really have anyone else. I think he has the siblings and the people he works with. I don't think there are like friends, he doesn't have a- a partner, there's nobody else, so he needs the business in order to have relationships with people, including the ones he loves. So when he gets cut out, he at least gets cut out with the siblings, and it's like 'well, we have each other, but we can't just hang out, we need something.' So we form a business together, we're puttin' this thing together just, I think, I think it's a good idea and it's good to, y'know, have our own business and be our own people and be separate from Dad, but I think it's more so that -- for Roman anyways -- it's more like so I can keep hanging out with you guys and we can have a relationship, because otherwise if we don't have anything we're never gonna see each other.
And if we have our own business and it's successful and we do that, then there's potential to have a relationship with Dad, now that we're not working for him. We can actually, like, -- I think for Roman anyway, I don't if the siblings feel the same way -- it's like yeah, Dad hurt us, but also, y'know, I think I want to- I'd like to get to a place where I see him on his birthday and Thanksgiving and stuff. I think I'd like to get back to hanging out with Dad. And if we have our own business, then maybe we can get together and have a Scotch and talk about our different companies and ask for advice here and there."

s1 luz was at least a little bit gay for willow i will not be told otherwise
idk if it was a full on crush but it was at least one of those types of nebulous not-quite-romantic not-quite-platonic "hahaha, unless..." type friendships that a lot of queer teens have, u know the ones

Notes:
This is what I was working on all up until November!
I wanted to finish it in time for a fan event, but,
it didn't quite happen in time that way.
(Maybe I can finish it later this year?!)
For now, please enjoy the preview!
I was also working on this together with a mutual - the track choice was mainly their idea, but I was trying to help find scenes that'd fit, and I managed to make quite a few moments work;
You'll notice it's slightly different from my usual styles, but I'm also trying to relate specific moments and framing rather clearly here!!
(I'll admit theres a couple lines I thought were harder to work with; I'll figure those out later, but the track was overall fun for them regardless and I really enjoyed trying to make this!!)
{As usual, a bit of manipulating scenes does happen, but its not ultra-heavy edits; all of these scenes come direct from canon formats for the most part, with some simple scenic manipulating otherwise!}

it boggles my mind that I still see reminder type posts about not consuming Harry Potter content, not because I expected everyone to agree to stop engaging but because I did sort of expect that the people engaging with hp in 2024 would at least have the decency to not grovel on the internet for random transgender bloggers to validate that they're still a good person and not transphobic for liking hp still. like these posts are not redundant they are FILLED with defensive responses and excuses for why actually its fine and its like not only can you not stop engaging with Harry Potter but you also want to be able to post about doing so non-stop and you never ever want to even see a transgender person point out that JKR is actively funding and directly influencing transphobic organizations and legislation. to the point that when someone does you are incapable of simply scrolling by because you need so badly to be reassured that this internet rando doesn't think you specifically are a bad person for doing the thing they said is bad. unreal main character syndrome. if you have committed to being an hp fan fine i am not a cop or your mom and I cannot make you do anything at all. but I am not, nor is any other trans person, going to give you 'permission' or absolve you of your own guilt for doing so. that is your problem to reconcile yourself and is not the job of random trans people. like jesus christ enough already
repeat after me: if you are the descendent of colonizers living on stolen land, you do not get to judge the methods of decolonial resistance movements.
you ever see a callout post for a user you've never heard of, and so many of the listed issues consist of the most sensationalized 'ok, yes... and-?' bullet points so you just keep scrolling like
I dont think Mob is naive as much as he's socially unaware, like the reason why he trusts Reigen so blindly is a bit more complex than just him being naive
Cause Mob reached out to Reigen because he was desperate to find someone like him, someone who understood his psychic specific issues, someone that could truly know what he's feeling and going through and give him guidance and support
Post incident Mob's thinking process was something along the lines of my powers hurt people -> my powers are bad -> my powers (my emotions, my instincts, myself) cannot be trusted
So he lost all confidence and trust in his own actions, resigning to being as passive as possible to avoid any further damage to anyone else, thus he started doubting his own perception of reality too
He's a kid already struggling with being ostracised for being socially inept, who just got traumatised and all of his insecurity increased by the tenfold, he doesn't know how to process what he's going through. He needs help.
And here comes Reigen, seemingly reliable, a responsible adult in a child's eyes, someone who claims he can understand him
Even tho Reigen doesnt. But it doesn't matter, because Mob finds comfort in his words and takes them to heart
Even if Reigen doesn't fully get it, even if he doesn't see the bigger picture, even if his advice isn't always the best
Eventually, Mob grows up, realises Reigen isn't as honest as he seemed through his 11 year old perspective, but like most things, he refuses to acknowledge it on a deeper level
Mob knows, but never tells Reigen, never thinks about what all those lies mean to him (ofc until he forces himself to face those doubts regarding Reigen, to properly acknowledge both of their flaws and accept them as they are, I should scream into the void about Confession Arc more God)
Due to his lack of trust in himself, Mob has relied on Reigen for years now to shape his moral compass, his thoughts, his decisions
Because well, Reigen lies, sure, but he isnt a bad person. When he hurts Mob, it isn't intentional or with ill intent, he still wants the best for him, what's the issue?
Except that it stunts Mob's growth. He doesn't develop as a person, doesn't have goals or wishes or ambitions, can't make choices on his own, he doesn't even let himself acknowledge his own emotions, he refuses to let himself exist
But Mob realises in time that he wants more than that, he wants to become better and be independent and feel again
Still, he puts the acknowledgement of the lies on hold for as long as he can, unwilling to question the way things are
This can make him feel a little naive, he constantly relies on Reigen and trusts his decisions and raises questions rarely until separation arc when he finally puts his foot down
And I do think that moment is the most resounding proof we have that Mob knows and allows himself to be used by Reigen, not wanting to shake the status quo, until he gets fed up
I mentioned the social ineptitude at the beggining but idk if I should even elaborate on that, you've watched the show, you know what I mean
He's blunt and can't read social cues or tonality that well and can't speak in front of crowds and is overall pretty awkward and I do think some people conflate that with naivety
Mob is still a child, he doesnt fully understand how the world works at the ripe age of 14 years old, but some folks take that as him being inherently naive/innocent/whatever which I don't find true
every time i so much as think about that scene where light looks at porn magazines while scowling i go into hysterics its genuinely the funniest thing i've ever seen
I really am getting frustrated with how little artists are being supported in this fandom. It’s frustrating to see talented artists who have notes only in the dozens because a ton of people liked the art but only one or two people reblogged it. And I don’t think you should be pressured to reblog every single art piece you see, but I am begging you to consider being a bit more lenient in art you will boost??
Art on the internet is dying in some ways. We are losing the websites that catered to our work one by one- Deviantart, Instagram, Twitter, many more. Tumblr is among them, but at the very least it is not the site’s algorithm that is against us, and there are plenty of active people, and yet still, no one actually wants to put in the effort of supporting the creators they like or helping them feel seen, and I feel like at least to a degree that is a major problem specifically in this fandom- Because we have an active fan base on this app, and I can see how many people flock to funny text posts I’ve reblogged, but my art and other people’s art will continue to go entirely ignored and it’s becoming increasingly frustrating because despite the influx of new people on this app, I’ve seen a DECREASE in interaction somehow.
I don’t know for what reason you would want to follow me but for art, for my own and the work of others that I reblog, so can you please actually support it instead of looking at it for half a second and then moving on with maybe a like if we are lucky? Because I’m exhausted of trying to make work that will actually be valued by anyone and other artists have been saying the same things for months, and although I’ve tried to be nice and not too forward about my frustration with this, I’m getting to be at my limit. I don’t want to post art that much anymore. Many other people don’t want to post art much more. What’s the point if no one shows any care?
