no one speaks to you like that
Tumblr media
r deals with a cruel coach at the world cup. misa makes it better. feat. the girls finding out that their friends are together.
The door slammed shut behind him, and you exhaled a deep breath, collapsing back onto the bed. You'd never been more unhappy to have your own room than at that moment.
You'd stepped out of the bathroom post shower, just barely throwing on clothes, when you'd heard a knock at your door. You were hoping it was Misa, but when the door opened to reveal Vilda on the other side, you felt your heart sink. He had his characteristic scowl on his face as he stepped past you.
The following 15 minutes were what could only be categorized as verbal abuse. He went after everything; your skills, how hard you were trying, how fast you were, how you were "clearly not" following the meal plan he arbitrarily changed whenever he felt like it. You stood, completely still, looking just over his shoulder, taking it. You wouldn't argue, that never ended well. You didn't let yourself cry either, because he never appreciated tears. Instead, you let the words wash over you, and dug your nails into your palm.
You thought of Misa the whole time. How if she heard what he was saying she'd probably do something to get herself more than benched this time; maybe sent home. The last time Vilda had gone after you like this, he had made the mistake of doing it in view of Misa, who completely lost it at him. Now, she was unlikely to play the rest of the tournament, and Vilda seemed to enjoy screaming at you more than anyone else.
No one knew about the two of you, even if Vilda suspected. No one else had witnessed her reaction to his cruel words directed at you; everyone just knew she'd argued with him, and she would be riding the bench no matter how far we got. The division within the team was stark, and although Misa was a Real Madrid player, she mostly hung out with the Barcelona girls; with you. You'd gotten together a few months ago, and decided to keep it to yourselves, not wanting to deal with her club teammates finding another reason to dislike her.
When Vilda finished, you just wanted Misa. You wanted to wrap yourself up in her strong arms, bury your whole body in her larger one. You never felt safer than when Misa held you tightly to her. You knew that you should probably find Alexia or Irene and tell them what happened, but you didn't want to make a big deal out of it. You pulled out your phone, intending to see if Misa was alone, so you could go to her. You needed to get out of this room; the scent of Vilda's aftershave hung in the room like a fog, and it felt like it was suffocating you.
-Are you by yourself?
-Yes. Do you need me?
You could practically see the smirk lighting up the goalkeepers face as you read her response; you did need her, just not in the way she was implying.
-Can I come up? Vilda just left.
The little bubble that let you know she was typing appeared and disappeared a few times, before her reply came through.
-Dick. Yes, of course, please come up.
With that, you slipped your phone into your pocket, grabbing your room key, and headed out the door. You yanked your hood up, trying to hide the tears leaking out of your eyes. You walked down the hall, trying to keep yourself from crying until you got to Misa's room.
You heard voices coming from the direction of the elevator you were headed too, unmistakably those of Alexia and Jenni. Fuck. You had nowhere to go, and as soon as they saw you, they wouldn't let you out of their sight until you told them what was wrong. You had no choice but to keep walking towards them, turning the corner, hoping they'd be too wrapped up in conversation to notice you.
"Y/n!! We're gonna watch a movie in Mario and Ale's room, come with," Jenni called the minute she spotted you. You didn't know how to say no, so you said nothing, trying to walk past them.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Alexia asked, putting a hand on your shoulder to stop your movements. Again, you didn't say anything, continuing to stare at the ground. A gentle hand came to tug your hood off your head, before lifting your chin up. Your watery eyes met the older girls.
"What happened?" Jenni questioned, looking overly protective even though she didn't know what happened. She kept her hand under your chin, not allowing you to drop your gaze again.
"Nothing, I'm fine, I'm just going to hangout with Ona," you lied, trying to shake off their hands.
"What happened," Alexia asked, in a firmer voice. It wasn't mean, or harsh, but it still reminded you of the verbal lashing you'd just endured, and more tears were flooding your eyes before you could stop them.
"Vilda," you started, before a sob escaped your lips.
"Fucking hell," Jenni swore, pulling you tightly against her. "What did he say?"
"Come on, bring her to my room," Alexia said quietly, looking furious, realizing you weren't going to respond. Jenni maneuvered you down the hall, never letting go, through the door to Alexia's room, before pushing you to sit down on the edge of her bed. You wanted to pull your phone out and tell Misa that you'd been intercepted, but you couldn't do that without arising suspicion. Also, you couldn't really see clearly through the tears blurring your vision.
Alexia spoke a few words to Mariona, who looked equally as murderous as the other 2 girls, and you knew you needed to pull it together and make sure none of them did something stupid. They were all older than you, and were quite protective. It wouldn't be the first time they clashed with Vilda over him mistreating younger players, but with the semifinals coming up, you knew you couldn't risk anyone else getting benched.
The problem was that you were only getting more worked up, even as Jenni wrapped an arm around your shoulders, and began talking quietly in your ear.
"Whatever he said isn't true, I promise. You're an important member of this team, and you haven't done anything wrong," she told you.
You nodded, but the tears wouldn't stop. The embarrassment you felt was only making you cry harder. Alexia took a seat on the other side of you, placing a hand on your back.
"Jenni's right, you haven't done any-" her words were cut off by a frantic knock at the door. You knew who it was, even as the other girls exchanged confused looks. Mariona went to answer it, as Jenni and Alexia looked curiously after her.
No sooner had Mariona opened the door, than Misa's panicked voice was filling the room.
"Have you seen y/n? She texted me that Vilda..." She trailed off as Mariona stepped to the side, revealing your shaking form sitting in between your captains. The other girls watched as Misa's face melted from one of panic into one of pure adoration; one they'd never seen on her face before.
"Y/n, baby," she said, seemingly forgetting that you weren't alone. Your teammates exchanged looks, Mariona and Jenni mouthing “baby??” at each other, as Misa crossed the room, tugging you out from under the arms of Jenni and Alexia, pulling you into hers. They were just as surprised to see you wrap your arms around Misa, clutching tightly to her sweatshirt. Your tears immediately slowed as Misa held you tight, the feel of her around you calming you down instantly.
"I'll kill him," Misa said through clenched teeth, addressing no one in particular.
"Easy there, why don't you tell us what the hell is going on before you go kill him," Jenni said, glaring at Misa. Your Barca teammates had clearly connected the dots, and did not appreciate that you were clearly keeping a secret from them. Misa made to let go of you, make this more of a conversation had with you, rather than one spoken over your head, but you only tightened your grip on her, shaking your head into her chest. Her attention was, again, solely on you as she pulled you over to the other bed, tucking you under one arm as she sat down.
Misa was still gazing at you, fingers scratching lightly at your scalp as you emerged from her chest, wiping harshly at your face. Her hands pushed yours out of the way, ridding your face of tears much more gently than you had been doing. The simple gesture was so sweet, so intimate, and Alexia cleared her throat, drawing both of yours attention back to her.
"Well? How long has this been going on?" She asked, voice no longer the soft tone she had been using with you, instead replaced by what can only be described as her authoritative voice. Misa retreated to the rather quiet version of herself that most people experienced, and you spoke up. Still, her arm remained protectively wrapped around you and no one missed the way you leaned into her unconsciously.
"Since May,"
"And you didn't think you should maybe tell us that you were in a relationship with someone on the team? A relationship that appears to be pretty important to you?" Jenni asked. Her jaw was clenched, but she didn't look like mad Jenni, she looked like sad Jenni. You realized the three of them were not necessarily angry, but hurt that you'd kept this from them. You paused, unsure how to respond to that. In truth, Misa had asked to keep it to yourselves, but you didn't want to throw her under the bus. She had no such reservations.
"I asked her to not tell you guys. I didn't want anyone to know anything until I figured out how serious y/n was about me. And by the time I figured that out, we were at camp, and I didn't want to give my club teammates another reason to be... the way they are with me."
The other girls stared at the pair of you, somewhat stunned at the vulnerability just shown by Misa in admitting all of that. She was a reserved person, a private person, someone much happier to help her friends than allow them in at all.
"Well... that makes sense," Alexia said decisively. "We won't tell anyone."
Misa nodded once, a small smile gracing her lips, before she turned to look down at you.
"What did Vilda say?" She asked, eyeing you carefully. In response, you just shrugged, refusing to make eye contact. You absolutely did not want to discuss what he'd said in front of the rest of your teammates; you trusted them, but the things he had said were humiliating. Misa seemed to pick up on this, as did Alexia, as they quickly made eye contact, and Misa stood, pulling you with her.
"Let's go back to my room, yeah?" She asked quietly, and you smiled gratefully at her. Mariona and Jenni both voiced their disapproval at that idea.
"I have like 15 more questions for the two of you," Jenni protested.
"Yeah, what are we supposed to do, just let you go back to Misa's room all alone? We have a game tomorrow, girls." Mariona said teasingly.
"Alright, let them go." Alexia said, hiding a smirk at Mariona's comment. It really hadn't been that funny, but the way you and Misa immediately blushed, and looked anywhere but at your friends was amusing.
You and Misa walked out of the room, ignoring the suggestive jokes that Jenni and Mariona were making. You walked in complete silence to the elevator and up to Misa's room. You'd broken apart the minute you'd exited the room, and Misa longed to take your hand. Now that you were away from your friends and their teasing, it seemed the weight of whatever Vilda had said to you was settling back on top of you.
You allowed Misa to pull you into her room, nudging you to sit on the bed, as she took a seat next to you. You were distracted, caught up in your own head, only looking up at her worried brown eyes when she said your name softly.
"Are you okay?" She asked, feeling like she probably knew the answer. You shook your head slightly, leaning to lean more against the brunette. "Tell me what he said," she requested, and you sighed.
"More of the usual. I'm not playing hard enough, I'm not fast enough, not good enough," you paused. You looked up at your girlfriend, not sure if you should continue and tell her the worst part. She smiled encouragingly, a smile you only saw on her face when it was just the two of you. "He told me I need to start following the meal plan better, because 'it's clear' that I'm not," you finished quietly.
Misa's hands clenched into fists once again, knowing exactly how those words would effect you. She, more than anyone, knew that you struggled with keeping your habits around eating and working out healthy, and not letting them become obsessive. The goalkeeper reigned in her anger, though, realizing that it was clearly not what you needed from her.
She lifted your chin with one of her large hands, her touch gentler than you thought possible. "He's wrong, baby. You're having an incredible tournament. We're as far as we are partially because of you," she said earnestly.
"And yes, you aren't following his stupid meal plans, because he isn't a dietician, and you need to be careful with how you keep track of what you're putting in your body. You're doing what you need to do to stay healthy, and that is what's important."
You were still looking at her with so much doubt, as though you desperately wanted to believe her, but weren't sure if you could. Deciding that maybe words had taken her as far as they could, she leaned in, pressing her lips to yours, hard, in what she hoped was a reassuring way. You met her with enthusiasm, relaxing into the kiss as your mouths moved in sync with each other.
After a few moments, she pulled back pressing her forehead to yours. You looked slightly dazed, and Misa bit back a smirk at the effect she had on you.
"You are beautiful" she whispered, "you are strong, and you are fueling your body in the way you need to, in order to do your job. And I am so proud of you."
Misa often shocked you with how gentle, how kind and soft she could be. She put on such a hard exterior, all harsh frowns and flexed muscles on the pitch. Off the pitch, she was only slightly less intimidating, opting often to remain quiet and listen, her hard expression only wavering when she was around people she was comfortable with.
She was so different when you were alone with her though, the severe expression that normally rested on her face melting away to soft lips that pressed gentle kisses to your forehead, and wide eyes that looked at you with so much love.
It hadn't started off that way; it had started as passionate, rough hookups. Slowly though, you wore her down. She couldn't get enough of you, and she eventually stopped trying to.
She was enamored with you, and you with her. Privately, she felt that you made her a better person, a kinder person. You felt like she had a unique ability to make you laugh when nothing seemed funny, and hold you together when you felt like you were minutes from falling apart. Like right now. She knew exactly what to say, what to tell you.
"I'll say something to him," she said quietly, and you pushed her off of you, sitting up.
"No, Misa, you can't," you argued. She looked determined, a familiar smoldering look on her face, one she got when she was getting ready to save a penalty.
"Baby, he can't speak to you in that way," she began.
"No!" you responded, almost shouting. She looked at you in surprise, startled to see an incredibly panicked expression on your face.
"Calm down, y/n-"
"No, you can't say something to him. Promise me you won't. Please," you interrupted, almost begging.
"Why? I'm already benched what else could he do?" she wondered.
"He could send you home, Misa. And if you left, I couldn't... I couldn't do this, not without you," you responded, looking at her desperately. Misa brought you back into her arms before responding, holding you tight.
"Alright, baby. I won't say anything. I'm not going anywhere, and you don't have to do this without me," she promised.
"Thank you," you murmured. The goalkeeper smiled at you softly, rubbing your cheek gently with her thumb. You still looked nervous, still upset, biting the inside of your cheek like you were thinking hard. She waited patiently, content to sit in silence until you were ready to say what was on your mind.
"I'm sorry they found out. I just kind of freaked out when I ran into them, and I wanted to find you but they were in the hall..."
"Don't worry about that. I don't care that they found out. I don't care if everyone knows i'm with you. I just care that you're okay," she told you. "Anyway, now that Jenni has probably told the entire team, I can stay in here tonight with you."
You leaned closer against her, more relieved at her saying she'd stay than you'd like to admit.
"But you have a big game tomorrow, and you need to rest. What can I do to get you to sleep?" she asked, knowing you were likely too anxious to be able to sleep right away. Again, you marveled at how well she knew you.
"Hmm," you said, scooting down the bed and rolling onto your stomach. Misa was looking at you adoringly, and you grabbed one of her hands, placing it on your back. She laughed in response, beginning to run her nails lightly up and down. You sighed happily, and she scooted down too, kissing just above your eyebrow, before resting her head on the pillow, continuing her motions. You were drifting off, but still, the thoughts of Vilda and what he'd said to you still bounced around in your head.
"Do you think he'll yell at me again?" you asked groggily, blinking your eyes open just enough to see the girl opposite you.
"No. I won't let him," she responded, sounding completely sure. You nodded, shutting your eyes again. You believed her, inexplicably. Her tone was so confident, and more than that, you trusted her. More than you'd ever trusted anyone before. You fell asleep easily, feeling completely protected with the strong girl next to you, watching as you drifted off.

WARNING: INCREDIBLY CRINGE WRITING
While Captain Y/n is on a mission with his team, they are interrupted...
What matters most though is if they are friend or foe...
Honestly, trying to put a whole scenario like this together was fun and challenging at the same time but worth it @gamersansblog !!!
So I hope you enjoy!

"Midnight, Hawk, do either of you have eyes on the target yet?" Y/n asked as he let his eyes sweep over the contents in the room. Falcon followed behind him, silently with his gun raised, clearing the room himself before rejoining Y/n's side.
"No sir, not yet," Midnight's heavy feminine voice replied through the radio.
"Just a whole bunch of shit in here, Captain, unless..." Hawk drawed out slowly.
Y/n knew that tone and quickly tried to intervene, "Hawk, I swear if do what I think..."
"Calm down, sir. Why don't we just turn this place inside out?"
"Hawk..." Falcon warned from beside Y/n as he watched his Captain let out a long sigh in front of him.
"Just a little demolition, sir. That's all... it's not like anyone knows we're here anyway. With the guards dead, I doubt we'll be interrupted, " Y/n could have swore he aged faster as he listened to Hawk's suggestion.
Honestly, Y/n was too tired for this shit. It felt like he was baby sitting 3 kids and he couldn't help but wonder if other groups dealt with the same thing.
There mission was simple, take out the guards, retrieve the files, and get out. Really simple shit. Y/n could do it in his sleep if he wanted too. But noooo, the Higher Ups just had to say his team needed to be with him for this operation.
Plus, Y/n doubted that Falcon could deal with all of them if Y/n left him alone with Midnight and Hawk. So he was forced to bring his crazy pyromaniac of a man, the little assassin that would kill just about anything even when Y/n told her not to, and his only good child.
God, being a father of a Ghost Team was hard.
But even so, Y/n wouldn't change it for the world. His team was just about the best thing that ever happened to him and his career. They were his second chance, his redemption. His everything...
"Alright, Hawk, set up those explosives and see if you can find anything. Midnight, watch his back. Falcon and I are gonna make our way over there..." Y/n commanded.
"Understood, sir," and in the background, he could hear Hawk's sinister little giggle and shook his head at his soldier's antics.
"You sure this is the best idea, sir?" Falcon looked worried about this and Y/n didn't blame him for it. They both knew Hawk could go too far when it came to blowing up things.
Last time they left him alone, half of a building managed to disappear.
Y/n shook his head at the thought, not wanting to even remember that mission again.
When he caught sight of Midnight, the woman was throwing her knives at some random crate she was using as target practice.
"Midnight, Y/n told you to stop doing that. You're gonna mess up your knives and then cry about needing to get new ones," Falcon stressed.
Midnight stuck her tongue out at the man and Y/n chuckled.
"Come on Captain tell her!" Falcon pleaded.
Y/n ignored it and looked towards Hawk.
"You ready Hawk?"
"Annnnnd FINISHED!" the man exclaimed happily as he put the last finishing touches on the bomb.
"Good... get ready to...the hell is that sound?" Y/n turned to see a drone watching them outside the window.
"Shit... someone else is here... we're leaving NOW!" Y/n yelled as he made his way to the windows with their repel gear.
"WHO THE HELL ARE THEY?!" Midnight bellowed next to him.
"Doesn't matter! Hawk on my signal you blow this place to hell!"
"What about the files?!" Hawk asked.
"The Captain and I got them on our way to you two! Now hurry your ass up and get ready to repel!" Falcon hollered at him, quickly putting his gear on.
Once they were ready, Y/n didn't take the chance of the enemy spotting them from the window. If anything, these guys were definitely professionals and had yet to show themselves but it didn't bother Y/n one bit. He knew his team was just as good.
So, he turned to the other window, pulling out his P226 and aiming it at the window.
"Hawk, you remember that scene from Fast and Furious where they jumped from building to building?" Y/n asked.
"Yeah, but we don't have a supercar, sir!"
"Well we can try!" Y/n began to run towards the window, shooting it multiple times until to burst into glass shards and they all jumped out.
"NOW HAWK!"
Y/n heard that lovely sound of the explosion going off behind him as they landed on the roof.
"Hell yeah!" Hawk whooped from beside him.
"We can celebrate later...we still need to find who else is here."
Y/n turned to Midnight first.
"I got an idea..."
"Sir?" She tilted her head in curiosity.
"You see anyone even hostile take them out. Hawk fill this place with traps, take Falcon with you."
Hawk nodded and tapped Falcon's arm before leading them away from Y/n and Midnight.
"Alright, let's go see who the hell were dealing with..."
Midnight sent Y/n a smirk as Y/n moved to take point and as they set out to find the intruders.
It didn't take long when they both heard a cry that only Hawk could make and quickly ran towards his yells. Y/n told Midnight to hide the in the grass, dropping into the dirt himself and aiming his rifle at the newfound men that had Hawk and Falcon in their custody.
He heard the gruff British man's voice question who Hawk was working with, who their team was, but Hawk wasn't one to talk.
Y/n made sure personally that they would never talk. He put then through the same exact situation he had been in now. Cornered by the enemy but except this time not alone.
"Midnight, stay down unless shots are fired. Got it?"
She nodded at him before popping up out of the grass.
"I wouldn't move it I were you..."
The men all turned back to him, guns drawn on him while he held his Honey Badger tightly to his chest.
"Who the hell are you?" The man in the skull mask questioned.
Y/n gave him a look before turning back to the man with the fisher hat on.
"You plan on fishing for my soldiers..." he drawed off.
"Captain Price." He answered.
"Ah...I've heard of you... You and your little Task Force. What was it...141, right?"
"Ye now who the hell are you?" He watched the man's grip tighten on his own gun.
"Captain Y/n and you're going to give me back Hawk and Falcon now." Y/n demanded.
"How do I-" he was cut off by another voice going through his radio.
"Yeah but-... Are you sure, Laswell?"
Y/n looked up when he heard Kate's last name leave the older Brits lips.
"You familiar with Laswell?" Y/n asked as he watched the men untie Hawk and Falcon.
"Seems so...and it seems she knows you as well..." Price commented as he watched Hawk and Falcon walk back to Y/n's side.
"Sir, are you sure Laswell said they're green?" The dark skin man asked the Captian.
"I doubt Laswell would lie to us Gaz. That goes for you two as well," Price said, turning to the skull masked man and the slightly shorter man standing next to him.
"So that's a infamous Ghost...I thought he be taller," Hawk.
"He lots pretty damn tall to me, considering he's standing near shortstack over there..." Falcon said.
The shorter man sent him a glare, obviously hearing Falcon's comment, but before he could say anything, Ghost pulled him back.
"He's not worth it, Soap."
Y/n heard a Scottish accent come from the man as he watched the two talk.
"Oh, sir... You should probably tell-" Falcon was too late to warn him when Midnight sprang up from behind Ghost and Soap.
Y/n sent her the scariest death glare in history before the woman's knife even made it near the two men. Only then did Ghost realize Y/n was glaring but not at him and turned around only to see nothing there. When he turned back, there was now a third soldier standing near him that wasn't there.
"Who she?" He cocked his head towards her.
"Midnight." and he left it there.
Price turned to look at them apologetically before letting out a long sigh.
"Sorry about the mishaps, mates. Seems we got you mixed up with someone else, by the way... you know who blew up that building?"
"We did," Y/n said quickly, watching the man's face change to confusion.
"Why did you-"
"Sorry, but we're kinda on a tight schedule so we'll see yall again sometime soon yeah? Nice meeting you, Captain and your team. Lovely bunch, really! Sir, we have go to go." Falcon said as he pulled Y/n away, the man shaking his own head and chuckling himself, with the other two laughing.
"Kids am I right?" Y/n shouted as he sent a quick nod to the Captain before turning to greet his own team as they made their way towards exfil.

Was originally going to write this as a comment elsewhere, but uh. Have some thoughts on Double Life Scott and Pearl. This may be slightly controversial? If you disagree that's fine by me, we're all entitled to our own opinions, especially on topics with nuance! I usually find people going way too easy on Double Life c!Pearl and too hard on Double Life c!Scott. Was Scott a good person? A good soulmate, for that matter? No! But Pearl wasn't those things either. They were mutually abusive to one another throughout the season. I will say that I think Pearl was less bad, but there are so many people who just... completely dismiss Scott's end of things.
Scott: Caused harm to himself to harm Pearl (though at a consistently safe time to do so, at the start of the session, via a single axe crit), and spoke about Pearl quite awfully (calling her his "crazy ex", etc.) Pearl: Caused harm to herself (far more sporadically than Scott, via "tickles" from the powdered snow every now and then), and took unnecessary risks just because she could
Honestly, I don't blame Scott for "abandoning" her in the beginning. Like, for him, it would have been a reasonable assumption that she and Martyn would continue to stick together. Scott wasn't leaving her alone, he was leaving her with Martyn, choosing instead to stay with Cleo--the one who actually stuck by him while their soulbounds were off in the nether doing who knows what (which turned out to be gathering resources, even though the main resources you might want to go to the nether for, potion making supplies, are useless in a season where potions are banned). Scott is not to blame for Martyn's agency. It was Martyn who decided to blame Pearl (even though the big problem, the nether trip, was his idea), it was Martyn who left her alone. (Also, it may be worth mentioning that I'm pretty sure it was Cleo's idea for her and Scott to stay together? Please correct me if I'm wrong on that, again it's been a while.) (EDIT: Cleo did in fact suggest it! They said "We should form an alliance against them." It was a little bit of a joke, but they both seriously agreed to it. Still worth noting that it was Cleo's idea for them to stay together.)
Again, I feel the need to emphasize that c!Scott is not a good person. He becomes abusive to Pearl, who also becomes abusive, and they abuse one another from afar. Or when they talk to one another. They are awful to each other. It is a mutual thing, and I find that not enough people acknowledge that. They both suffered as the other's soulbound.
It's really, really important to remember that the Life Series--Double Life especially--is FULL of nuance when you look at it from a storytelling perspective. The Life Series has no real heroes, and no real villains. Only people doing their best to ensure the survival of their team and/or themselves. Scott and Pearl both had thoughts about what was best, and those thoughts clashed this season, leading them to clash with one another.
Really, I think that adds another layer to their ending. Scott, in his way, forgives Pearl through a show of loyalty and fairness he only gives to allies, conceding the true victory to her unprompted, and Pearl in turn forgives Scott. This only happens when there's nothing left but each other. They are finally on the same wavelength again, with no Cleo to sway Scott away from Pearl and no Martyn to deal the final blow to shatter Pearl's heart. It's just Gatekeep and Girlboss, truly together for a brief time, anger and animosity put aside. The Stars welcoming The Moon to join him in the night sky, where they can try again. Tilly death did they part, yes, but in parting they were set free from each other, and they were able to mend their connection on their own terms.

hurt/comfort statements that hit me right in the feels.
pardon me please, i'm just having a moment. possible tw for suicidal ideation and references to death and loss. bonus points for specifying a scenario!
from those who are struggling. ❝ i never thought i'd ever make it this far. ❞ ❝ ... when were you going to tell me about this? ❞ ❝ i don't ever want you to die. please ... don't die ... ❞ ❝ we had our whole lives planned out. ❞ ❝ i just can't, it's too much. it's too fucking much. ❞ ❝ losing him/her/them was the cruelest thing i've ever experienced. ❞ ❝ people say things like, 'you're going green with envy', or 'there's smoke coming out of your ears'. you think they'd come up with a statement like that that describes someone who's in constant pain like this ... ? ❞ ❝ sometimes you need to make room for grief. make time for it. embrace it. it's all i've been doing as of late. ❞ ❝ how is it possible to hurt this much when nothing's wrong? ❞ ❝ drowning in sadness is more fulfilling than drowning in pleasure these days. ❞ ❝ it's hard to let go of the fact that i'm probably going to outlive everyone else in my life. ❞ ❝ i've already lost everything near and dear to my heart. everything except for you. ❞ ❝ i'm just so tired. i just want to go to sleep and never wake up again. ❞ ❝ i was so close to giving up once. ❞ ❝ i don't want him/her/them to die alone. i'd never forgive myself. ❞ ❝ please, don't go ... i just need to feel your arms around me ... ❞ ❝ there's a reason why i hide my emotions locked in a metal cage so deep in my heart. it's so i won't get hurt like this again. ❞ ❝ i've always had to deal with these kinds of things alone. i don't need your help. ❞ ❝ it was my fault. i did this to him/her/them ... ❞ ❝ i can't even see my future anymore. i don't want to. ❞ ❝ there's no way i could possibly be this important to you. ❞ ❝ if i lose him/her/them, then there'll be nothing else for me to live for. ❞ ❝ i don't see a point anymore. in going on, i mean. ❞ ❝ time won't slow down. it never does. i had to learn that the hard way early on. ❞ ❝ go away ... please, just go away. ❞
from those offering support. ❝ ... i'm sorry. i'm so, so fucking sorry that you had to lose him/her/them. ❞ ❝ it wasn't your fault. you did everything you could. ❞ ❝ just remember they'll always be in your heart. ❞ ❝ i don't know what to say to make you feel better, but ... i'm here for you, if that means anything. ❞ ❝ believe it or not ... i know how you feel. i've been through this exact same thing. ❞ ❝ he/she/they loved you. he/she/they loved you so much. trust me ... i know. ❞ ❝ you're not alone. i promise you, you're not alone. ❞ ❝ don't worry, i'll stay. i'm not going anywhere. ❞ ❝ you've been through so much ... be kind to yourself. please. ❞ ❝ it's okay to cry. you don't have to hide your emotions around me. ❞ ❝ you don't have to talk to me. hell, you don't even have to look at me. but, please ... give me a sign that you're hearing what i have to say. ❞ ❝ please ... don't tell me that you'd choose to spend eternity up there with him/her/them over an eternity with me ... ❞ ❝ you're grieving. it's an understandable reaction. but you should rest. you've been overexerting yourself far too much lately. ❞ ❝ the man/woman/person who you lost, who loved you ... he/she/they wouldn't want to see you doing this to yourself. ❞ ❝ crying is your body's way of telling you that you've been keeping everything in for way too long. so let it out. you're safe here. ❞ ❝ sadness is like an ocean. sometimes we drown in it, but other times, we're forced to swim in it. ❞ ❝ as long as i'm here, you'll never not have anyone ever again. ❞ ❝ i hope you know that you can talk to me about anything at all. share anything you need to get off your chest. i'm here for you. ❞ ❝ love is often felt the most in your favorite memories. honor him/her/them by remembering all the happiness he/she/they gave you. ❞ ❝ if you don't feel strong right now, then you don't have to be strong. it's okay to be vulnerable, weak, scared, and sad. ❞

[Lumax voice] Turn Around, Look At What You See! In Their Face...
Tumblr media
(If you couldn't already tell: I have finally lost all my marbles.)
I'm sure this has occurred to other people by now, but if El's memories leading up to the 4.07 monologue are ripped directly from Brenner's (<- slayful Nat post, required viewing), and she runs in to see One killing Two...then doesn't it stand to reason that that is what Brenner saw when he ran into the Rainbow Room in 1979?
Now before anyone hops in to correct me: There's definitely a version of things where Brenner finds El alone in the rainbow room after the massacre. That's not in question. We all know that happened at some point.
Tumblr media
(Regardless of the manner of death...no broken bones or gouged eyes...okay!)
However, as I'm sure we're all aware...these guys are different guys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This detail has been beaten into the ground but always bears repeating)
So, what is in question is what close-up Brenner saw when he ran into the Rainbow Room.
Those duplicate memories appear to belong to close-up Brenner:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i.e. not the Brenner who runs in and sees El at the start of 4.08. (This isn't to say that that Brenner doesn't have those memories or similar ones, but he's not the Brenner whose memories are being featured. Begone, thot.)
So, arguably, if El has close-up Brenner's memories...then she should be running in and seeing what he saw, no?
So what did he see? Someone just slightly shorter than him, who walked close enough to warrant a tight shot.
Tumblr media
That POV (as has been discussed ad nauseam by many) is far too tall to be any version of El:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it is about the right height for someone a few inches shorter than Brenner...something like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, tl;dr: I want to play a clip for you.
I love choreography and camera work. That's art right there.
However, that video doesn't include the subtitling that accompanies the visuals that link El finding One to Brenner finding El:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, it's difficult to compare anything after this point (though not impossible, can't keep a south Wisconsin boy down. I will be using them for comparisons later)...because of course that's when weird, random blood starts appearing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hence, the clock is visibly frozen after that point:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This smacks, to me, of the same kind of shit that happened with 004 when the kids were bullying El—Scenes that never actually happened in the real past being spliced into a tape that cuts off and then picks back up like no time had passed/nothing had been spliced in. It makes more sense if you read the post I linked, since the video in that post makes my point clearly.
< TANGENTIALLY RELATED >
The anime nerd in me is tempted to liken this whole deal ^ to JJBA/DIO's time-stopping stand "The World" in...that's right...Stardust Crusaders, wherein DIO pause time for everyone but himself, which I'm certain others have done as well.
Tbqh...I'm still here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Specifically a reference to The World/DIO vs Star Platium/Jotaro, both of which are time-stopping stands...(Much to think about irt Jotaro/Star Platinum developing time-stopping powers later on in terms of El, sure, but also in terms of "Everything was hard for [One]...He walked in here, and it was like something had changed. He told me he had figured it out.").
[Distant screaming as I'm forcefully prevented from going on a "Stardust Spider-Stardust Crusaders-Dio Brando-Joestar Family-Dio's Bone-Green Baby-Green, Green Grass of Home" tangent in this post...and don't get me started on DIO's regen healing/vampirism from the ancient stone mask...don't get me started on King Crimson and Golden Experience Requiem either...]
Not to mention the DIO reference with One linking this scene to (you guessed it) Edward Munson:
Tumblr media
Edward Creel proven once again, but this time it's via goddamn JJBA and Brenner fuckery. (And yes, yes, I know about DIO the band. This ain't about her. Things can have multiple meanings. It was a Choice to associate Henward with DIO and Eddie with DIO. I rest my case.)
< ANYWAY, TANGENTS ASIDE >
As I said earlier, close-up Brenner is shot at a distance baby El could never have achieved. She passes out on the far side of the room, entirely too far away to have been anywhere near close enough for a close-up of Brenner's face, height aside.
However, ignoring the blood fuckery and disappearing gate cracks:
Tumblr media
Some-One else has enough energy left to walk towards the doors. All the way over, in fact. So while those close-up shots are 100% out of range for post-gate baby El, they're very much in-range for 3:46 PM One.
Tl;dr: It's entirely possible, if not likely (based on the choreography and camera-work in these scenes) that close-up/angry Brenner was addressing One rather than baby El.

every so often i see people complaining that the rules that govern the endless are unfair and shouldn't exist, and it's always just kinda funny, bc im here like oh you do NOT want to get rid of the rules, trust me
is it unfair that desire gets away with so much bc they're the only one willing to break the rules? yeah, probably. but the solution to that is more rules, not less, because we're dealing with 7 immortal siblings who've been around since the dawn of time and have the maturity levels of teenagers
and in that context all of the rules make so much sense
like there's probably more rules than we know about, but let's focus on the main three - no loving mortals, no interfering in each others' affairs, no spilling family blood
1) endless can't love mortals. the one rule we know was instated later than the rest, almost entirely because of dream. for two reasons. the more obvious is that dream and desire are never gonna stop fighting, and when you put a mortal in the way of that, they are almost definitely gonna get murdered or worse. but also, there's lifespans to consider. not every dead mortal can end up in the dreaming, and not all of them want to. dream dating someone mortal means at some point, he is going to outlive them, that's not in question. and dream... doesn't take loss well. he stood outside in the rain without moving for three weeks when thessaly left, and they'd only been dating a few months. and then we have lucien's word on what happened after nada...
Tumblr media
if the dreaming entirely comes to a halt for weeks or years or centuries after a girlfriend leaves him, dream grieving an actual death of a partner is actively dangerous. you can't stop dream from dating, and from those relationships going poorly, but at least it has a much higher chance of being a mutual breakup if death has been taken out of the equation
(and, you know, might as well make it a universal rule, both just in case, and so dream isn't constantly aware that this one was made because of him)
2) no interfering in the affairs of other endless. think, for a second, about the sibling rivalries in this family. and that's just the ones that exist now, when several of them have had a chance to grow up - it's said they were all a lot more immature and prideful, even death, back in the day (she grew into the older sister position).
i saw someone say once that everything in the dcu makes sense when you consider that the universe is being run by seven warring siblings, and honestly i'm inclined to agree! they're all a mess
but at least they're messes that mostly leave each other alone. which means their domains are at least protected by the fact that they all individually care about what they were created to do - there's only one person making decisions and that person generally wants the best for those that enter their domain
death in the show talks about how when she was young, she had a hard time seeing her purpose, because everyone seemed to hate her and she didn't know what to do about it. what she says in the comics is that she did stop. once it really started to get to her, she refused to collect souls. no one and nothing died. and it was only through realising how much more that was hurting the world that she started to learn how to be okay with it
when any of them stop or get distracted or kept away from their jobs, it's the mortals who suffer. and even if they all meant well, which they often don't, have you ever tried running important projects with seven people leading? at best, it slows you down, at worst it can ruin the project entirely. given how much they try to tell each other how to live their lives already, if they were allowed to get up in each others' business, you might as well be jamming up the cogs of the universe
3) can't spill family blood. so, it's easy to look at that and see orpheus, and rose walker, and all the traps that dream almost or did fall into. but as far as i'm aware, other than orpheus and unity's descendants, we don't know of any other kids of the endless, and those were all pretty recent, on a universal scale. honestly, given how dream is the only hopeless romantic of the family, i'd be willing to bet orpheus was the first. so it's extremely unlikely when this rule was put into place that children were on anyone's mind. time and night are on such a cosmic scale of power i don't think even all of the endless combined could kill one of them. which means this rule is about each other
and given everything we just said about interfering with each other, can you imagine if they were allowed to kill each other? because endless reincarnate, death amongst their family would lose all meaning. you could kill one of your siblings for annoying you and get back a potentially less annoying version of them almost immediately. but every time you did that, you'd be disrupting the functions of the universe. and with siblings like dream and desire, who don't see the other's domain as important at all, they wouldn't care. if they'd been doing it since the start, it's possible none of them would see that as a bad thing
you'd have the universe falling apart before it could even really begin. and they might not even notice

Continuation of This Post on how The Second Coming is all of Humanity because I wrote that one on my phone and there was a lot more thought that went into it. (Please read that first hahaha)
One thing any fandom forgets over time is that we, the audience, have the privilege of an Omniscient Perspective. We have knowledge of The Narrative. That's how we're able to rationalize Aziraphale's decision. How we're able to forgive him for what he had to do. It's called a Meta Analysis for a reason.
Do you know who doesn't? The humans in the story.
As far as they know, Aziraphale disappeared. Without warning. Without any word of goodbye. How does this affect the people around them?
How does it affect Maggie, who was suddenly left without her landlord (and all his other tenants)? The People of Soho who know Aziraphale as a well-meaning cryptid? The Bookshop that was a Soho Safe Space that the MAFIA has been trying to get for years? The restaurants that were always miraculously restocked and small diners that were kept in service because they were Aziraphale's favorites and he never let them lose business? Their friends?
And the only side they have as an explanation is Crowley's. And Crowley would probably drunken rant, and they would pity him, of course they would. And over time, it would be the only side they could hear. Without knowing Aziraphale's side, who would they believe in more? (Don't get me started on their reaction when Crowley starts spouting how 'this was not the first time Angel rejected me', or how Crowley would try so hard to stop ranting about Aziraphale, which would only make him seem guiltier).
Look back at the fandom's immediate initial reaction to the Last 15 Minutes. How instinctively people sided with poor Crowley. That is what's happening here, except without The Narrative to give us a meta commentary.
So when Aziraphale comes back to thwart the Second Coming, Crowley sighs and goes along because he gets it. He knows Aziraphale. He knows that Heaven is toxic, and Aziraphale is a victim. He's sad, but he gets it.
The humans don't.
Cancel culture is prevalent and does not care for your backstory.
And resentment brews deep in those who were abandoned.
And poor Muriel is trying so hard to explain what's going on, but we've seen how Heaven keeps its angels in the dark under the guise of Order. They won't have the clearance to provide any meaningful information and evidence to defend Aziraphale. If they could even contact him.
Instead, they're left on a Fully Populated Earth, overwhelmed. They're accompanied by a Sad Demon that she learns is the kindest demon ever. They're dealing with Angry Humans who are facing the consequences of Aziraphale's sudden disappearance.
They're dealing with the Mafia that is taking Aziraphale's absence as an opportunity to take that piece of land away. They're dealing with the HMRC (I believe this is the IRS in the UK) breathing down her neck and she never learned to do taxes (and they have always been suspicious of Aziraphale so it's worse now that he's disappeared).
(FYI these two things are canon in the Good Omens novel)
And so, as they acclimatizes to earth, they can't help but feel tired and resentful. They try so hard to smile at Aziraphale when he sees them, but it's dimmed with anger. Why did you leave me alone? Why do I have to deal with this? Are they right in what they say about you? Do you know how hard it is to smile when I can't defend you?
And then I talk about how All of Humanity is now the Second Coming.
Crowley asked questions, and fell.
Jesus asked "why, father, have you abandoned me?" and was left unanswered.
Now, it's the humans that ask. Why did you leave us? Why did you leave Crowley? Why should we forgive you?
Good Omens talks about sides. Heaven, Hell, and what Crowley and Aziraphale once referred to as Their Side. Humanity.
Ultimately, Aziraphale chose Heaven. He needs humanity's forgiveness, for abandoning their side.
Aziraphale twice now told Crowley "I forgive you." And it was never in a good context.
Crowley forgives. He doesn't say it outright, but he does.
But now, Aziraphale needs Crowley's forgiveness, he needs Crowley to say those dreadful words, for the sake of humanity.
And they're not talking.

—in a world alone (we're all alone);
a collection of small missing moments based on xaden's letters to violet. // pre-FW; iron flame spoilers.
part one. | part two.
“my dad hoped i’d go into the infantry like he did. he thought riders were pompous pricks, and in his defense… we really are.” — chapter sixteen (iron flame).
.::.
at six years old, xaden wanted a dragon.
and well, so did all his friends.
his best friend garrick talked incessantly of how one day he'd have a huge, red dragon that he'd ride into battle against gryphons and wyvern and venin and he'd save all of tyrrendor.
(and xaden would shake his head at the boy's antics — because at six years old, they were both big enough to know that wyvern and venin weren't real.)
xaden's cousin bodhi was convinced he could have two, since he couldn't pick between the colors orange and green. he once wondered idly if there was a dragon that could change colors at his command.
most of his other peers carried similar ambitions, and though xaden couldn't stretch his imagination quite as far as they did, he could still relate well enough to obsess with them over what could one day be.
he wanted a blue dragon. one that would be his best friend and give him cool powers like turning invisible. one that would fly xaden all over the continent, to help rid the world of gryphons and anything else that could threaten his home in aretia.
he'd told his dad about all this once.
"a dragon?" his father exclaimed. "what on earth are you gonna do with a dragon?"
"fight gryphons?" xaden replied slowly, his tone suggesting that the answer should be obvious.
his dad let out a short laugh and ran a hand through xaden's hair. "alright, we can talk about it when you're taller. and when you can eat all the broccoli off your plate without me having to bribe you with chocolate cake for dessert."
xaden had told his mother once too, as she was reading him a bedtime story.
the smile she'd given him in response carried a sadness that deeply confused him (how could smiles be sad?).
"my father went to dragon school, you know," she told him gently. "but he passed away there when i was a baby. so sending you off to dragon school would scare me a little bit."
it was the first time xaden had wavered in his goals for himself. he really wanted a blue dragon. but he didn't want to make his mom sad.
.::.
at fourteen years old, xaden was thinking he could practically see his future beginning to veer in the direction of the infantry.
his father was certainly pushing for it. he wanted xaden to follow in his footsteps — serve in the infantry, and eventually take his place as the duke of aretia.
his mother was no longer around to put in her two cents.
xaden no longer thought about blue dragons. not even as garrick and bodhi and eya continued to toss around the idea of one day joining the riders' quadrant.
his father would wrinkle his nose when he'd hear xaden's friends mention it, and xaden had once overheard him complaining to his aunt about what a pain in the ass most riders were to deal with.
and though xaden tried hard not to think about it — not to think about her — his mother's confession to him all those years ago that she'd be scared of him entering the riders' quadrant was a memory that clung under any thoughts he'd have about joining in on his friends' tentative plans. so much so, that he'd begun to avoid thinking about the riders' quadrant altogether just to spare himself the heavy memory of that sad, sad smile.
he didn't want to upset his parents. so being a rider was almost certainly crossed out of his list of options. along with most of the other choices.
the thought of himself as a healer was ridiculously laughable.
and he had no problem admitting he didn't have the brains to be a scribe.
so whether he liked it or not, all signs seemed to point in the direction of the infantry. it was the most logical conclusion, even if the thought of pursuing it left him with an odd feeling of emptiness.
no, xaden didn't think of blue dragons anymore; he hadn't for a long time now. but deep down, he knew that the last time his mind had touched that idea was the last time he'd felt any sort of interest in his future.
.::.
at twenty-one years old, xaden is the rider of a navy blue daggertail.
he has shadow-wielding powers, and another signet so dangerous that he blatantly avoids calling it what it is even in his own head.
though she'd scoff and mock him if he ever dared to call her his best friend, sgaeyl knows him better than anyone else ever will. just as she had known his grandfather so many years before — the one his mother never met; the one who never made it out of dragon school.
garrick and masen have their coveted dragons, as well. bodhi and eya and imogen and soleil are all currently working to prove themselves worthy of one too.
and at twenty-one years old, xaden is big enough to know that venin were all-too real. that knowledge — (among other things) — had helped to seal his fate in the riders' quadrant.
it's bittersweet, to say the least.
especially when, two months into their second year in the quadrant, xaden finds himself stranded in the middle of a forest with the rest of his squad, a scribe cadet, two healer cadets, and a team of second-year infantry cadets.
he studies the uniforms, the faces, and the intentions of each infantry cadet. he watches their squad leader, and for a moment, he feels like he's getting a flash of what could've been.
they all watch him and his squad warily, and though xaden has put his shields back up, he can only assume that their assessment of the riders falls pretty in line with his father's opinion.
pompous pricks, he'd once called them.
and watching the attitude his squad carries all-throughout the land nav exercise — even after they fail — xaden can't argue the old accusation.
unbidden, a quick flash of his mother's sad smile invades his thoughts, and it feels judgmental as well.
it's not the first time he's pondered the irony of ending up in the riders' quadrant as a punishment after so many years of that option being written off as an unrealistic dream.
xaden wouldn't give up his bond with sgaeyl for anything in the world. the rush of pride, of confidence, of power he feels when he's flying on her back is unlike anything he's ever felt, and it hasn't lessened one bit since threshing last year.
it's the closest he's ever gotten to feeling fulfilled, and he doesn't think anything on the continent could ever compare.
and he likes to believe his parents would understand if they were around to see him now.

Can I redo the reader escaping that instead of only Robin in the store all of the yandere tbp boys are in the store and u run as fast as u can
Version 2
You were tied to a bed in a house somewhere. You didn't know where. But you did know who did this to you. Your best friends. You just didn't understand why. But were you gonna stick around and find out? Nope. You did exactly what your mom taught you. "Bend your thumb and then twist your wrists. Then the rope will soften and will break" she had told you. So you did it. And I worked!
But you should've known you can't escape them that easily. They knew you. But you knew them. You know their fighting techniques. You know what kind of manipulation they use. You know them. As you were walking down the halls, you were thinking hard. I mean, of course you knew that they all had a crush on you! But you didn't think they'd take it this far. This all happened after telling them that you were going on a date with a guy you met. This was the day after graduation.
You didn't know what today was. Just that you already had a dorm in the college you were going to. So you ran. So fast that you ran straight into Robin. You slid around his legs, pulling and knocking him off his feet. You kept running. When you came across Billy you grabbed his arm, twisted it, and pulled, spraining his wrist. He doesn't deal well with pain. Next was Bruce. Ah shit. Bruce had a baseball bat. But without that, he gets insecure. I grabbed the baseball bat, yanked it out of his hand, and brought it down on his leg. I felt bad for a second. I mean they were my best friends.
But a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. I kept running. Finney. Oh jesus. He might be one of the hardest ones. But he needs a tool when hurting or killing someone. Here he just has his hands. So you made him use them. You guys went hand to hand until you decided you were wasting time. You kneed him right where the sun don't shine and bolted. Vance was standing right in front of the door. Now you knew where you were. You were in their hideout in the woods. They haven't let me come here in a while. Now I know why. They were getting it ready for me.
"Don't do this Doll." he said. "I don't know who you guys are anymore." "We're your best friends remember?" "No. No. You're not. None of you are my best friends anymore. The boys that were my best friends are gone. Replaced by this." I slid around him, grabbing his hair and yanking him back. "M'sorry." I said and ran out the door.
Five years later
I was walking on the street on my way to the grocery store when I saw 6 heads of hair that looked oddly familiar. It was 11:00 at night. The boys emerged from the shadows. "Boys?" "Hello, angel." Said Finney "Haven't seen you in ages, sugar." Billy added "Makes me a little mad that we haven't seen you in so long doll." Vance said. "I'm happy here. Just go home and leave me alone." "No can do, hermosa." I bolted and ran.as fast as I could screaming for help. But it was late and no one was outside.
Faster, faster, faster. Run, Y/N. Run. Run. Run. I felt myself fall so I rolled onto the grass to break my fall. I saw the boys very close behind me but Finney was the closest. He grabbed a syringe from his pocket and stabbed it into my neck. Then. Nothing.

Semi-Hiatus From 10/21 Until 10/28
{out of paprikash} Hello, everyone. I received some very bad family news early this morning. I'll elaborate more under a cut for those who want to know, since I know many people don't want to hear about personal issues on rp blogs, and that's totally okay. I want all my blogs to be safe spaces for everyone. But the upshot is, I may not have very much time to write in the upcoming week, so I'll only be working on blogs whose characters I have a lot of muse for. I’ll leave @tarnishedxknight open, since I have a lot of muse for those characters, and I might write my Resident Evil muses (@youmissedone, @checkxmaster, and @freewillacquired) on their scheduled Wednesday (10/25) if time/muse allows. All other blogs, I will likely skip this week.
It’s hard for me to gauge, because sometimes when I get very upset/stressed, I want to write as a comfort/escape, but at other times I can’t even make words. There may be days when I write a lot and others when I write nothing. I’m sorry for anyone waiting for a reply, but all of this was very unexpected. I’m going to say I’ll be back next Saturday (10/28), but if that changes I'll let you know. Thanks so much for understanding. In the meantime, I hope you all are doing well. <3
Alright so... I don't want to go into a lot of details and overshare and make people uncomfortable, so I'll just quickly summarize what's going on.
I have a very toxic grandmother (she's 93) that me and my dad share time with my aunt with. She lives with us for 6 months out of the year and with her for 6 months, in a 2-2-4-4 breakdown. My grandma is so damaging to the mental health of whoever is taking care of her, and she greatly limits your freedom and ability to have a life because she can't be left alone for very long at all which is hard to deal with with work and whatnot, so we have to share time to keep our mental health from getting too bad. She causes my dad and I anxiety, depression, etc., but I won't go into detail as to all the reasons why. It's... a long story.
Anyway, Halloween is our happy time of year, because we love the season, we do a lot for it, and grandma is gone from August to December. Well... my aunt called today. She was just diagnosed with cancer and will need various treatments, so she can't take care of grandma anymore. We are getting her back two months early, we have to take down all our decorations for Halloween (she's very Christian and hates it), and we've had to cancel all our plans for Halloween and my birthday (some of which we had tickets and reservations we can't get refunds for), because when she's here, we can't leave the house for very long or go very far.
So at the height of when we were at our happiest and ready for Halloween and whatever else, we have to suddenly kindof... shut it all down... and accept back into our lives before we're ready this toxic person we were supposed to have a break from. And there will be no more breaks in the future, that's the worst part. Well, my aunt having cancer is the worst part, but you know what I mean. It's just all been a shock for us in so many ways.
*sigh* So yeah. If you've read this far, thank you for caring enough to do so, you deserve all the good things and I hope they come to you. I'll be okay, I just have to process everything, accept my new normal, somehow get through it. And I have to hope my aunt will be okay, forget about Halloween, and forget anything else me and my dad wanted to do for the foreseeable future. I am also getting laid off soon, probably after next semester according to my boss, so I need to find a new job. With grandma living with us all the time and my dad needing help to take care of her, I am extremely limited by what jobs I can look for, so that's another big source of anxiety. I just have to find a way through this, because I don't have a choice.
Again, thanks for understanding, and hopefully I can sort through this all in my head, get done everything that needs to get done in the next few days, and be ready to come back to my regular rp schedule next weekend. But like I said, I'll let everyone know if that changes.

@disneyanddisneyships MORE MAL LORE?!?!?!?!?
So as far as we know this is what she looked like in her past life
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So- as we all know.. again
Full name: Mallory Carrington
Age of death: 20 (2010's)
Nationality: 🇯🇵🇺🇸
So.. we're only going to talk about her life. Cast aside the hell part.
No specific year of birth but probably in the early 1990's
Just some background for her parents.. and then leading up to Mal!
No picrews of them yet 😔 (i promise I'll make them)
Her mom was originally named 'Tsubaki', but she had to move to the US wherein people were oddly unaccepting of foreign people like her and she badly needed a job to fend for herself and her family (she came from a non-priveleged family) so she changed her name to "Carmellia" and that's when she got a job as a waitress at a restaurant that pays well, and that's when she met Mal's dad. His name was James Carrington.
He was.. ok. Carmellia was fresh out of college and he was.. barely getting through life in his mid-20's. He works as a pharmacy cashier, lives alone and everything. Seems like a simple guy.
Right?
So, they met when Carmellia was getting some remedy for a cold. He was stunned because he thinks she's the most beautiful woman that's ever graced this country so.. they make a little small talk, and the third time she came there, he asked for her number.
Carmellia was new to love and she didn't know how to handle it so she gave him her number. They called, they got to know each other, James visited her often in the restaurant, they dated, and for a while it was perfect.
No tf it's not. He was an alcoholic. An addict. Always put Carmellia on the spot when she didn't want to. Drew unwated attention on her.. physically hurt her when he got too drunk.. I guess in his head he thought he finally found someone who tolerates his bs. Cause lemme tell you this guy is one of those guys most likely to say "Everyone always leaves me" like they're the problem.
Carmellia stayed for a while, because as much as he kept abusing her like that, he kept coming around and she felt stuck, and it became a cycle.
And hoo boy when they got married, She almost couldn't see her family because of him. James thought he had free reign over her now.
Then he starts hitting her with the "You really think I'd ever love a foreigner like you?"
Carmellia never knew what to do.. she had nothing to go on for.. she almost wanted to pull a Carolyn Brennan until one day she just started feeling sick. She threw up frequently, had cravings, so she went to the doctor, and they suggested she took a pregnancy test.
Then she saw it. Two lines. Positive.
And when she saw that, she finally had a choice. She ran away from her and James' home, went back to ger country to live with her parents. James tried his best to find her, but everytime he reached out she never responded.
Until a month after Carmellia gave birth, he finally found her. She tried telling him off, but it was no use. She let him stay with her for a month, and he swore he would change.
So a month later. Carmellia gave birth (yay) and it was a baby girl. She wanted to pick out a name, and she wanted it to be like her old Japanese name. So she decided she would name her "Hotaru" which meant firefly, because in their culture fireflies are a beloved. A metaphor for love and passion for poetry, or something along the lines of that.
James opposed, and said that it wouldn't be accepted in his country (why is that his concern lmao) and said that he has a hard time pronouncing it (cry harder bitch) and so he decided to name her "Mallory".
At first Carmellia hesitated, and said it would mean a lot for her, but James said it was for the best. And so they went with "Mallory", which meant "unfortune". Now Carmellia is very serious on name studying, and questioned James on this, but James just said "does it actually matter? Why do you make everything a big deal?"
So she just dismissed the thought of her husband calling his own daughter a misfortune. Bad luck.
And soooo few months after Mallory was born, James just kept stressing Carmellia out more, going back to his old ways once again. So carmellia dumped divorce papers onto his face one day and he was livid. He said he didn't do anything wrong and told her that she was just like the others leaving him.
Carmellia had enough of it. And at the end James ended up signing it, and unfortunately Mallory was left under his care. He convinced them she was deranged and that he never actually abused her physically so that he wouldn't get a restraining order.
Still, they had an agreement that she would have her daughter for two or three months, then the rest was with him. And so every summer vacation or christmas vacation she's with her mom. Growing up she learned to be fluent in her mom's language, even taking summer classes for it when she can.
Now.. James as a dad.. is pretty.. eh. He pays more attention on other things that his siblings and relatives had to take care of her more. He still takes care of her somehow.. but he does the bare minimum. His relatives basically RAISED her. But Mallory was clueless about it, and she loved both of her parents equally.
So, growing up, Mallory really liked to sing. And so both her parents sent her to do choir classes. She had a long way to go, and people never really seemed to like her because she was mixed which is weird because they were kids and who even taught them that. Anywho, she never had any friends.. just acquaintances. Even in school.
Well.. not until she met someone by the name of Lillian Carlton. Her and Lilly hit it off immediately and they became the best of friends. Even James and Deborah became sorta friends. Lilly helped with her bullies a lot, and Mallory learned to defend herself and her friend.
So, Mallory.. onto her crushes.. she never really had one. She wasn't big on that. Everyone was mean to her. She likes nice people, and none of them were.
So, I guess Lilly WAS her first crush. At first she was a bit confused because she thought of Lilly like a girl would of a boy she had a crush on.
Confused bb gorl.
She had a crush on the nice girl with cute glasses. But that went away in time.. but ever since she did have that silly lil crush
They remained friends. They were two peas in a pod. They even got their first period at the same time and joked about being in sync all the time. They bonded over music. Fought over who's the hottest one direction member between Zayn and Niall. The most 2000's-2010's teenagers that have ever teenager'ed
So, with her first crush AND bestfriend, she got out of grade school. And here's where the real torture began.
Seventh grade.
She was becoming more open-minded about certain stuff. More curious also.
That's also the age where she would come home to her father drunk off his ass.
One time he went all out on her..
He was like, "you were the reason your mother left! You're why I'm like this. All hell broke loose the moment you were born. You bring nothing but unfortune to my life."
Mallory figured he was just drunk, so her AT THE TENDER AGE OF TWELVE, Took care of her drunk dad, and it ultimately lead to him dying because of all his vices. She was 13 when he did. But those words stuck on her head for a long time.. until it became voices.
So, her uncle and aunt had to take James' place.
Lilly was always there for her, though. When she heard about James passing away, she ran to comfort Mallory. She had no clue of everything that's happened in her life. She trusted Lilly, but she was just scared.
So under her uncle's care.. we all know how that ended up. She was molested at 13. When she turned 15, she ran away from home, something her dad's side of the family never really cared about. So they just pronounced her dead.
But her mom.. she wanted to look for her. She fled Japan and looked for her in every possible place she could think of. She asked Lilly.. Deborah and Charles.. she wanted her baby to be alive.. to be okay.. but she just couldn't find her. Despite her in-laws saying she was dead, she had a feeling she wasn't. There was no body found. She still put up posters, asked random people... anything. Anything for her daughter. Her little firefly.
Carmellia, after a while.. broke down. She went absolutely insane. She went to delusion.. she believed her daughter was still there.. that Mallory was out there.. needing her help.
But Mallory.. where was she? She hid herself from the world. From whoever could recognize her. she was, and have always been a great liar.
No one found her. No one could. She was keeping the bad luck away from everyone. Then she started to get angry.. if she was going to change everyone's life for the worse then so be it. She killed a man at the age of seventeen. Some mafia took her in, taught her things.. basically grooming her in the process.. she had nothing else to live for. She began referring to herself as "Mal."
Not until Lilly came across her somewhere. She tried convincing her, but Mal only lashed out on her for trying to help. She said she didn't need it, and told Lilly to have a family with Jace.. to never ever end up like her. A mess. A monster. She will just change everyone's life for the worst anyway..
So, they drifted apart.. and Carmellia's insanity ended up killing her. It ended up on the news, but Mal only felt spite. Because she thinks her mom never cared when she went missing. Her mom probably thought she was bad luck, just like what her father said.
And she started to really own up to the meaning of her full name. She figured if she was going to make one's life a living hell, then the person must deserve it. So she went to clubs, sold drugs, lured men and rapists to their deaths. Fifty seven of them. Until she got caught, but never got arrested as she got into an accident in the process. She was dead on arrival.
And the rest was history.
So.. she was never bad luck. People are just.. terrible people. James never changed. He never tried. And Carmellia wanted to protect her child in the way that she can. And she felt like she failed to do that.
And in all of that, Mallory never knew.
Mal never knew.
Haha anyways

The Bodyguard pt5
John Price X Elvira Wolff
Summary: John Price poses as a Shadow Company soldier alone, infiltrating to retrieve Elvira. Making their grand escape into the forest.
Tumblr media
“Thanks to Valeria willingly… Helping us, one of her men managed to get you spare shadow clothes. Once you're in there, you're on your own.” Duncan explained the situation to Price. “Sorry, we can't help you.”
“That was the plan.” Price Replied. “I'll be fine. She'll be fine.” His tone was reassuring.
“I'll just let Ulrich know he'll get his goddaughter in no time.”
Price messaged Ulrich through a burner phone, he updated him as much as he could. He'd rather be overly cautious just in case.
"Got a lead in getting Elvira back, will send you our location when we're at a safe location."
. . .
This was all a mess. Still stuck here in this damned Cell, bruises all over her body. Shit food, shit accommodation. Shit entertainment too. Nothing good about this shithole. Shadow Company doesn't have any taste or any hard feelings at all, don't they? Elvira mentally and physically, was a hard person to break. Poor girl had been through many things a person shouldn't go through, but life has a “funny way” of forging a path.
With Graves constantly yapping into her ear like a dog, constantly asking…
“Where's your godfather?” 24/7, non stop. It was beginning to annoy her, but Graves found it more amusing with how angry. It was almost laughable to him.
Hell Graves was beginning to grow more impatient day by day, the day arrived for Elvira to be transported to Ashika Island, all they got to do was escort her to the airfield which Graves knew was going to be a lot of effort. Judging by Her stubbornness, he didn't know whether Price had his men or not, waiting to be ambushed.
Around 5am the Cell door that held Elvira in the small cramped room was opened, a shadow soldier stepped inside going towards her. Elvira woke up, seeing the soldier. Why was he here so early in the morning? God knows…
“Ugh, you again? Fuck you I'm not going anywhere!” Elvira protested, when she tried to bolt out of the door to escape from him. He knew what she was going to do anyway, she was too predictable sometimes.
The soldier quickly wrapped an arm around her, keeping her closest to his chest, the other covering her mouth.
“Hey, hey… Look, it's me.” The voice sounded familiar, it was no one other than the other her bodyguard’s voice. Price.
Elvira's eyes widened slightly, god she felt relieved. She made sure not to overreact too much, in case anyone else was going to overhear them.
“Listen to me.” Price started speaking. “You're going to have to play the Prisoner role a bit longer for me, love.” His hot breath tickled her ear.
“When I take you to the car, two Shadow's will be in there… One shotgun, one back seat… You think you can knock him out?” Price asked softly, his voice now a whisper. “When I turn the vehicle off route, that'll be your chance to knock out the man next to you.”
“Nod for yes, shake your head for a no.”
Elvira quickly nodded her head, with that Price gently patted his shoulder and uncovered her mouth. With that he put the handcuffs over her wrists, but it wasn't too tight. She let him do what he needed to do and she was guided out of the room.
Outside of the prison – Finally a breath of fresh air, Graves was nowhere to be seen. Price wasn't concerned. He'd deal with him later, getting Elvira out was far more important. As he said, Price was in the driver's seat, one guy beside him and another next to Elvira in the back seat.
“Never seen her so silent.” One shadow commented. “What did you do to make her quiet newbie?” He questioned looking at Price.
“Stern talk.” Was all he said.
The doors closed and the cars set off, driving off one by one. There were only three vehicles driving. Two at the front were full of shadow soldiers. The last contained Price, Elvira and two guards as well.
The car drive was fairly simple, Price in the driver's seat was following the other cars. He looked up at the rear view mirror to check up on Elvira. Elvira didn't know when she was supposed to knock out the soldier next to her, yet her cut told her to be ready for anything. And she was right.
Price swerved the car off road as it went into the forest dirt track, Elvira quickly kicked out the soldier that was next to her with her elbow. The soldier that was next to Price put up a good fight, a couple of times he nearly lost control of the car. Due to him fighting off the shadow, and trying not to crash.
Elvira grabbed the shoulder putting her arm around him to try and choke the poor bastard. Putting him in a headlock.
“Get off of him you stupid Bastard!” Elvira hissed using her strength to choke the soldier.
“Shit-” Price slammed the brakes seeing a deer jumping by unexpectedly, the tires screeched. After they unexpectedly stopped.
"Fuckin' deer..." He cursed to himself.
By that time the soldier was dead, Elvira pulled herself off of him as she sighed leaning back on the back seat.
“We need to get out of here. They're bound to track the car down.” Elvira explained. “They might have a tracker on it.”
Price nodded in agreement, he got out of the car. Elvira did as well, standing beside her once more.
“Can't leave any dead ends.” Price got a C4, throwing it against the car. At a safe distance the car exploded, after that the two quickly ran since it caused such a loud noise.
“We need to go, the other cars are bound to come back for us now. Go in the forest.” Price said. He took off the shadow helmet and patch. Throwing both of them into the fire, keeping the bullet proof vest on for protection and keeping the firearms he obtained.
Elvira ran with Price in the forest, trying to keep up with the pace that he was running. Despite how much her legs ached, she ignored the pain and kept up with Price. They did a good number on her, with all the bruises and cuts.
“There, look! A barn. We should take shelter there.” Price said as he quickly went towards the door, he opened it for Elvira so she could get in first.
Elvira used the last bit of her strength and ran inside the barn. Price took one last long look at their surroundings, no one was around. No one seemed to have followed them…
Price went inside the Barn, closing the wooden door behind him. For now, they would have to ranian here, until it was safe enough to even think about leaving.

Rather ironic Cousin Monaca. You faked being paralyzed to gain sympathy from others, and given the fact that your sperm donor and Haji believed you, says a lot about how you were treated. While Mother was actually paralyzed at the hands of your brother. Which is also further reinforcing our growing desire to push the man dick first into the nearest meat grinder
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah... I was faking being paralyzed, and you too believed in it...
Tumblr media
So where does "Papa" come into the story?
Tumblr media
Him....
--------------------------------
*Flashback* *Towa Hills nursing room*
Tumblr media
..............
*creak*
Tumblr media
Apologies. Sorry you had to wait so long. I can only assume you're upset...
Tumblr media
NO! SHIT!
Tumblr media
I fell down a flight of stairs because of your son, and severely broke my legs! The doctors say I may never walk again! I should sue you!
Tumblr media
I assure you, I handled that idiot son of mine. You have our deepest apologies, of course.
Tumblr media
*sigh* Whatever... Just give me Monaca, and we'll be out of each other's hair forever.
Tumblr media
Monaca? Oh, so that's why you're here...
Tumblr media
She was in a wheelchair, Towa. Do you honestly think I'd let you leave her like this?
Tumblr media
Well, hmm... I come bearing my own proposition. *He gives her a paper on a clipboard*
Tumblr media
What's this...?
Tumblr media
A contract. Simple standard affairs, denial that we take responsibility for this little incident, and we get to keep custody of Monaca.
Tumblr media
.......what....?
Tumblr media
Now of course, we won't leave you with nothing. We'll provide you a customized wheelchair for transportation and convenience, as well as some money to help you along the way for about-
Tumblr media
I don't give a DAMN about the money, Towa! What do you mean custody of Monaca?! You don't even love her! I know how you and Haiji treat her, thinking that she's a mistake and a blemish on your family company's name!
Tumblr media
True. It would be better if she's longer around. Less work and mouths to feed the better.
Tumblr media
But, as luck would have it, Monaca is an amazing engineer. Her brain and talent shine brighter than any other in this world. I can't let that go to waste, she's going to make us so much money in the future. Even be head of the robotics division if she keeps this up.
Tumblr media
SHE'S EIGHT!
Tumblr media
And she's the most brilliant eight year old, I've ever seen! Far better than my own son. This wheelchair we're giving you was one of her first inventions. Now she'll always be with you!~
Tumblr media
....and if I so happen to refuse this deal of yours?
Tumblr media
Well... I know how hard it will be managing medical bills, work, and school all on your lonesome. But not if you sign here... So what'll it be?
Tumblr media
.......... *scribble, scribble, scribble*
Tumblr media
See? Was that so hard? I'm glad you made the right decision.
Tumblr media
...Did I even have a choice?
.....
.......
.............
....................
*Some time later, when Miaya leaves...*
Tumblr media
...... *Miaya enters the elevator, and is all alone...*
Tumblr media
*inhale.....*
Miaya: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

okok omg it's been a minute lets see if I can remember everything without having my notes in front of me (This post is going to be SO long bc I am going to attempt to include relevant art I am so sorry. There are also quite a few Fortune Looks in here since he pretty frequently switched up his disguise during this arc. Also sorry) [I reached an image limit LMAO. I will be doing a second part to this post]
You said the last time I updated properly was about him dealing with family/patron-related drama - that was back when he was about to die, panicked and used an item the Traveler gave him, and said item bamfed him directly in front of his mother. Which would be the first time he'd seen her since he ran away seven whole years ago
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was in a magical disguise, but he said exactly one word and his mother definitely recognized his voice. He bolted, because that's the only way he knows how to deal with things, and did not stop until he was off his family's estate and found a place to hide away in his hometown.
The party was still roughly a full day's ride away, and he didn't know exactly what to do. The cleric, Adelaide, called him twice while he was running. The exchange basically went.
"Fortune. Where the hell are you. I know you're not inside the big purple worm anymore because I specifically use magic to make sure I know where you're at when we're fighting but it doesn't work when we're far enough away. Are you alive." "UHHHHHH I'm home now. Please hurry. I can't be alone here."
So the party wraps up the quest the were on (killing some purple worms in a quarry) and heads off with the intent to get to Fortune's hometown as soon as possible.
Fortune holes up in his favorite old cafe for a while, but he's nervous and antsy and his thoughts are going a mile a minute, so he only sits still for about 45 minutes before taking off again. He has time, and he needs to do something before he reached full panic attack mode.
So he goes to his old best friend/arranged fiancé's family estate. He's been thinking about his friend, Kel, basically since he knew they were going to be passing through the city. He sent Kel a letter that essentially said "hey uhhhh I'm gonna be in town. can we talk? also my name is Fortune now xoxo" He has no idea if it has gotten to him yet.
So he ends up at the estate. He finds one of Kel's little sisters, and asks if Kel is home. He's not, but she goes to get her other older brother, Nasar. Fortune claims to be an old family friend, and makes sure the two of them are alone before dropping his magical disguise and going "haha uh... surprise?"
Nasar, bless him, took things pretty in stride. Even as Fortune was all fucked up and covered in worm guts and trying very hard to explain himself. He asks if Nasar can hide him from his parents, since he can't exactly go home right now. Since he ran away and everything.
Apparently, Fortune's family said he had been sent to a convent as an explanation for his disappearance - because he was so against the idea of getting married.
Tumblr media
Nasar kind of shrugs and said that all "worked out" in the end. Because the engagement agreement wasn't fully broken off, but just shifted - the Sabets promised a daughter to the Summercrowns, and they had a whole other daughter to promise. They had to extend the engagement since Fortune's younger sister (Bless) just very recently turned 18 etc etc.
Fortune tries to explain a little more, Nasar still takes it very in stride.
Tumblr media
King shit.
There's some more back and forth. It is determined that Kel is not actually at home today, Fortune cleans up a little, gets some more info, and leaves another little letter with Nasar to give to Kel when he comes back. Some of the info includes - The Sabets are throwing a party soon. Fortune could just talk to him then - Bless has been given a lot of control recently, and she seems to be the one in charge of her social calendar/party planning etc. - There is also a chance that Fortune's parents will not make an appearance at said party. That's odd.
As he is heading back to the cafe, he catches somebody tracking him. It's been a long day, he's not happy. It is determined this person has been hired by his family. Several years of pent up paranoia come crashing into place as he realizes that yes, his family has definitely been having him tracked since the second he left home. (He's the one on the right here)
Tumblr media
Back at his little cafe spot, Fortune tries to hold it together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's fine. He's fine.
The Traveler pops in, says some cryptic shit as they do, and bamfs back out. They finally confirm that Fortune's mother is the one that originally invoked the rite that has caused them to watch over Fortune, but doesn't elaborate at all. Fortune, already mid-crisis, tries to compartmentalize the idea that the ONE thing he thought he did for himself was actually STILL caused by his family's influence. He's doing great.
Which is DEFINITELY helped when his sister straight up just sits down in front of him and starts talking.
Tumblr media
She throws a lot of information at him. The biggest one being "I don't really mind being married to Kel, but it's not my first choice. I won't be crushed if it happens, but it doesn't seem fair to him. Break up my engagement for me so that you take all the heat for it k bye~"
The party finally gets to town, Fortune tries his best to get them up to speed, and he buys them some fancy outfits for the party the next day. They take a lot of what he says in stride, but also don't seem to fully grasp the gravity of anything. (Fair)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As they approach the party the next day, the group finally starts to realize exactly how much money Fortune comes from. We're talking "most influential family in the province, name recognition in most circles" levels of money.
He tells them who they're looking for, briefs them on the protocol for a Fancy Fantasy Regency Party, and they all go off to enjoy themselves.
By "enjoy themselves" I mean, Hazel and Blue (the druid and the wizard) sneak into the house and start snoopin' on Fortune's sister. God bless them. They manage to break into her room, and then break into a secondary secret room hidden behind her wardrobe.
Tumblr media
Inside, they find a MASSIVE crystal ball, a book of notes, and a bundle of Fortune's hair. She has very clearly been spying on him, and has been using a WICKED powerful magical artifact to do so. A magic item that belongs to the cleric's church, and might actually be a relic that has been missing for several hundred years.
They grab the relic, Fortune's hair, and Hazel also digs out a bundle of what appears to be secret love letters from one of Bless's drawers. Hazel thinks blackmail might be needed in the near future.
While all this is going on, Fortune has manage to locate Kel. Parties aren't really his scene, so he's hanging out at the stables behind the estate. Nice and quiet, probably even a little bit of privacy. Fortune is excited and terrified. It is nice to see him enjoying himself out with the horses, though. Kel always liked horses.
Tumblr media
Also it uh. Turns out the sickly lil firbolg kid he knew got very tall and very hot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fortune takes that well.
They have a very long talk. Fortune apologizes a lot, and tries to explain that he didn't leave entirely because of his arrangement to Kel. It did factor into things, but it was less that it was Kel and more that Fortune hadn't figured out his identity yet and the thought of being someone's wife made him feel sick. The chat is awkward, but they seem to work most things out, and Kel says he's just happy to have his friend back.
Tumblr media
They hug, I scream, Fortune tries his best to NOT be his weird gay self about it because their regency-ass hometown has a lot of rules about public displays of affection. Fortune introduces Kel to the party, and they're all as normal as they can be about it. Adelaide gives him some knowing eyebrow wiggles, Blue climbs up onto his shoulders to get his vibe. Fortune continues to be extremely gay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kel informs them that he can't hang out to get to know them better because the Sabets have invited him to dinner. Fortune decides to crash said dinner. Kel is visibly excited that he gets to spend more time with Fortune. After Adelaide sends a message to Fortune's dad about them attending (not asking), they all regroup and kill time before then.
Dinner is. Tense. The party gets to learn just what Fortune's family is like. And that Fortune is visibly afraid of his father. Bless spends a lot of time being weirdly touchy-feely with Kel and trying to one-up Fortune's friends. His mother is quiet and makes a few jabs about him leaving, and his father is openly hostile, interrogating him about what he's been up to and how any of it has been helpful to the family. Even so, it's pretty clear the only reason he is there is because his wife asked him to behave. After a particularly terrible jab about Fortune always dragging the family name through the mud, Fortune stands up and has to step away for a minute to avoid getting them all thrown out.
Hazel tries to probe into Bless's mind while they're chatting, and immediately gets slapped back out. She hears a little chastisement from the Traveler (Fortune's patron) and has her passive mind link ability temporarily severed for the first time in her life. Understandably, she freaks out.
Meanwhile, Fortune's mom has gone after him. Her demeanor has changed completely, and she shares a very sweet moment with him. She uses his chosen name, and says she was hoping his scars were part of the disguise he's still wearing. (This entire time, he's been in that purple look, which makes him look much more like his sister. He refuses to unpack that at all.)
Tumblr media
Fortune takes a moment to regroup as his mom goes back to dinner, and Hazel sprints out to find him and let him know there's something weird going on with the Traveler and his sister. Fortune is hanging on by less than a thread at this point, and takes it as much in stride as he can. He's basically reached emotional capacity.
After dinner, Blue convinces Fortune's dad to chat with them about their mission into the desert. They learned Fortune's family has been sending expeditions out there to retrieve magical artifacts, and Blue figures they could at least get some idea of what they're getting into. For Regency Reasons, the men go to talk business and the women split off to go chat. Fortune is, to his dad's credit, allowed to join in on the business talks.
The ladies (Hazel, Adelaide, Bless, and Fortune's mom) have a very tense conversation. Adelaide very pointedly praises Fortune as much as she can. After she mentions that Fortune is very good at protecting her and the party, Bless suddenly stands up and walks out. We file that information away.
The guys hammer out an agreement to get in contact with the Sabet's guide. Fortune isn't... really in a place to talk much in front of his dad, so he slips out and goes to see what state his old room is in. Everything is under a dust cover but basically untouched. He pokes around, picks up his old favorite book, and is about to leave when a letter falls out.
Said letter is from uh. One of the BBEGs of the campaign. The Shadow, specifically, who is kind of half posessing the wizard. Said letter is dated about five years back (well within the memories that we know Blue is missing, it's a whole thing) and is extremely manipulative. Even Fortune can kind of see it, but he gets a little distracted.
Tumblr media
A little spooky shard of black glass falls out too. Fortune takes a deep breath and quietly compartmentalizes, like a lot of things that have happened in the last 24 hours.
The party manages to convince Kel to meet up with them after dinner. They have to kinda do it secretly because of more Regency Rules, and they'd like to chat with him without a chaperone there.
For the first time, Fortune drops his magical disguise around Kel. He seems pretty relieved. He missed his friend.
Tumblr media
This does not last long. Remember that relic that Blue and Hazel snagged after breaking into Bless's room? And Fortune's hair? And how she was spying on them? And that Kel is engaged to Bless? Well. They immediately start sharing this information in front of Kel, leading to a lot of confused and alarmed nodding.
And Adelaide is furious. That a teenager had a relic of her church. That she was able to use it. That Blue and Hazel kept this information from her. She and Blue have a shouting match out on the balcony while Fortune tries to do damage control, which doesn't go great because Atlas and Hazel start telling Kel about Fortune's magic and his link to the Traveler.
Adelaide storms back into the room, pushes her face against the giant crystal ball (known as the Eye of Darya, rumored to be her actual third eye that she dropped onto the material plane before leaving it) and immediately passes out and starts bleeding from her eyes.
A mortal wasn't meant to use the item like that. Adelaide basically saw all of time and space condensed into one second. It ripped up her mind pretty badly, to the point that she got some stat debuffs she's STILL trying to figure out how to fix. She gets a vision about the temple we're going to, and then gets zapped. It is also implied that every time she uses her divination magic, she will be open to entities other than her god influencing her. Remember this.
The party revive her after some panic (Kel tries to help, despite almost passing out at seeing the blood, bless him) and Fortune tries to get Kel away from the party once it's clear Adelaide is not dead. He tries to do more damage control while walking Kel down to the stables, but things seem off. Kel says he's going to ask Bless about some of the stuff the party said, insisting that she's his fiancée and even if he's not thrilled about the arrangement, she still should share with him.
While Fortune has a mini breakdown while Kel rides off, the party sees a little raven perched on the balcony. It looks suspiciously similar to the bird we saw hanging around the Sabet estate, and because we were still under the impression she's a warlock of the Traveler at this point, we do not like that. Hazel blasts the sucker out of the sky. She gets some psychic damage, but thing is gone for now. HOWEVER... by the time Fortune makes it up to the room, the party has been kicked out. It seems like Bless bought out basically... every free room in the city to displace them and be petty.
The party packs up and goes to find a camping spot outside the city. Fortune, still deeply fucked up by the events of the last 48 hours, says he'll catch up with everyone because he needs to go get drunk for just a little bit. Everyone is understandably preoccupied with Adelaide, who looks like death, and they wave him off to go do that. Atlas sends his familiar off to keep an eye on Fortune, but isn't clear enough with his instructions. We will get back to that.
While the party settles in for bed, Fortune is approached by someone at the bar. His mother, deeply upset and disappointed, tells him to follow her. And when he doesn't listen, she casts Command on him. My poor low wisdom boy doesn't have a choice, and climbs into her carriage with her. While on the way to the estate, they have a couple very odd conversations.
Fortune is drunk and fed up with everything, and keeps just. Saying things. He ends up learning that his mother doesn't actually seem to be in direct contact with the Traveler, and that his fancy magic sword is apparently a lost family heirloom. His mother seems... sad. She asks for his help, admitting that neither of her children seem happy. Ever. Fortune, being a drunk asshole, just kinda shrugs and says "yeah, we're fucked. if Bless is anything like me I think we're just like this. Shit, that." He also lets slip that maybe he does not always enjoy being alive. This seems to upset her even more, understandably.
Tumblr media
His mother has essentially placed him under house arrest. He's lead to his room and locked inside, where he has a sad little drunk tantrum before passing out.
He doesn't get to sleep for very long. His sister wakes him up, slaps him across the face with a glove, and demands a duel. She's furious for a lot of reasons, but the only reason she'll own up to is Fortune running around her fiancé without supervision. Sure, Bless. Fortune is still drunk and absolutely close to a meltdown and almost immediately agrees.
They've dueled before. Their father would regularly pit them against one another as children. Bless is pretty convinced she's a much better fighter than Fortune, but he also absolutely was never fighting her for real. At the oldest, she was ten during their duels. He wasn't about to really fight someone in the single digits when he was almost a legal adult. He probes a bit as they prepare for the fight, and learns that she has no idea who the Traveler is. She is able to summon a sword just like he does, but the magic feels... spooky and wrong.
He doesn't get to think about that very long. He's drunk, exhausted, pulled his first strike out of habit, and she gets multiple attacks per round. Two rounds in and he's almost down. And the whole time, Bless is berating him (honestly, rightfully) about how he left and how he was a terrible older brother. Their parents have apparently been fighting about him since the moment he ran away. When she nearly breaks down and tells him that she was there the night he left, waiting for him to come back and take her with him, he fully stops fighting.
Tumblr media
He apologizes for not protecting her from their parents, but undercuts the whole thing by being VERY dramatic and shitty about things. He tells her to kill him. Actively guides the sword to where she should hit him. She implies he won't be the first man she's killed before, but hesitates while he keeps talking. It's a lot of dramatic, self hating bullshit, and after a point she just... kinda sneers at him and walks away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She leaves him bleeding out on the ballroom floor. He drags himself back to bed, has a nice cry about it, and falls asleep.
Atlas tries to check in with his familiar, Luka. She kept an eye on all this going on, and catches him up on the situation. He takes a moment, kind of sighs, and says as long as Fortune isn't in immediate danger, they can figure out what to do tomorrow when Adelaide isn't actively dying. He catches Hazel up before swapping the watch out and heading to bed.
On her watch, Hazel tries to contact the Traveler. They show up, and she kinda tears into them. They more or less throw their hands up and say that it isn't their job to keep Fortune SAFE, just to watch him, and anyway he's home now which is what his mom wanted in the first place.
After some more back and forth, Hazel trades a bit of gossip for a lore drop. She learns that there is a connection between druid magic and the divine gate. That druids are part of the balance between the material and the divine planes, and the reason they were systematically hunted down a century ago in an attempt to break the gate down. Poor Hazel has a lot to take in about her heritage, and the Traveler refuses to elaborate further.
The next morning, the party makes Plans. Atlas is on edge about Fortune being stuck at home. He sends a message through his familiar, but Fortune is essentially... broken at this point. He's tired. He's stuck at home. He hasn't had a long rest and is functionally a light slap away from death. He doesn't believe his family will let him leave. He insists that the party doesn't need to save him. Again. Like they always do. Atlas does not listen.
While the party groups up, Fortune is taken to breakfast with his mother. He is not given a choice. Exhausted but still kind of angry and attempting to be rebellious, he rejects the outfit she picked out for him and puts on his old pirate getup, open shirt and all. When he gets to breakfast, he sees that his sister and Kel are there as well.
Tumblr media
Fortune immediately rats his sister out for the duel, and his mother says they'll deal with that later. She seems to be trying to pretend that nothing has happened, and even that Fortune never left. She has the day planned for them, and has decided Fortune is going to help her plan Bless's wedding. He sasses her as much as he's able, but is also reminded that he is, in fact, still scared of his parents.

"you're watching winx club again?" the voice of none other than yeonjun says in that judgemental tone of his.
"it's my comfort show." i tell him as he plops down next to me and starts watching it with me.
he always does this. he'll say whatever i'm watching is ass but then he'll watch it and start asking questions about what's going on. don't let that fool you, he'll say it's boring and that he's not interested. that's how he knows the whole plot of h2o.
"aww wait so she had to sacrifice herself?"
"yeonjun, just re-watch the whole season."
"nah im good thanks. i'd get bored." i roll my eyes at him. he clearly won't but i won't fight it.
"then stop asking questions."
"fine."
...
"why is it so hard for her to earn her enchantix?"
"yeonjun i swear to god."
he mumbles a small "sorry" before standing up to do whatever.
he returns to the living room with his phone and asks what i want for dinner. he's ordering takeout which he literally lives off of.
"uhhh...just order pizza, i don't fucking know."
he nods and walks off while i continue watching tv.
...
"DINNER IS HERE!!" his loud ass announces, bringing the two boxes of pizza.
there's no other way i'd wanna spend my saturday evening.
we've been friends since 10th grade when i came into the school all new, not knowing a single person. he saw how pathetic i looked sitting all alone everywhere i was so in pe he picked me to be his partner for the paired obstacle course. he just started talking to me randomly since then until he introduced me to his other friends and i just hung out with them everyday since then.
and now here we are in my apartment which he practically lives in. wherever he is, i'm there too and vice versa.
i remember one time he threw down shots of straight gin like he was drinking water and i had to nurse him after he threw up in the bathroom of some person's house we didn't even know. you can thank wooyoung for that. i guess you can say i've truly seen him at his worst, and lowest moments. of course i'm gonna stick by him through every moment.
"you know, i have an idea." yeonjun suddenly blurts out. i turn my attention to whatever he has to say, nodding my head to urge him to continue. "since my love life sucks, and your's is non-existent-"
i smack his forehead. well it's true, i've got no love life at all in the slightest bit. "mine might be non-existent but at least i never had a sam to deal with."
"hey, we don't mention them. that was horror." he pouted.
"you're telling me that. they were literally the worst. but love is blind i guess."
"haha, can i continue?" he deadpans and i motion for him to continue proposing his idea since i stuffed my face full. "you've got sauce all over your face."
he grabs a napkin and hands it to me. "thank you. go on"
"right. so let's say by like, 32, if we're both still single by then, then we should just marry each other."
i damn near choke. he said marry? "are you seriously proposing a marriage pact?" he nods his head.
"think about it, i'm not planning on ever leaving your side, like ever."
"damn right you won't, who else will be my equally sick inside the head other half?" i joke and he throws his head so fast and far back in laughter, damn near breaking his neck.
"and also, we're already soul mates anyway." he adds with a wide smile on his face.
ahh yes. we were labeled platonic soul mates by another one of our friends because of how close we had gotten in 12th grade. we knew each other so well already by then because we were practically attached by the hip.
"sure. i mean it's very likely that i'll still be single by then since i hate everyone. including you of course." he laughs before shaking his head
"yeah keep telling yourself that."
"you're right. i hate everyone except you. be honored."
"i am."
we continue eating while watching winx club together.
there's never a dull moment with him and i'm so glad to have him as my best friend.
